Would you guys hate me if I assigned an animal to every les mis character. And I mean EVERY les mis character. If they get a name they’re getting an animal courtesy of my intense need to sort everything into animal counterparts by vibes alone.

shauna shipman is the scariest girl in history!! she ate jackie’s ear and nibbled on her wrist when she didn’t even have to!!! no one was eating bitches yet! but shauna was :) she skinned and chopped up javi with no issue, not even a word <3 she DULLED her knives to play what she thought was a FAKE hunt w the adult girlies. she beat lottie to the edge of her life and then went to sleep. she made her only child an accomplice to a murder which she felt no remorse for!!! she does NOT care about collateral damage babe. she wrote that jackie “made her feel invisible” so she FUCKED HER BOYFRIEND AND BORE HIS CHILD AND SENTENCED HER TO DEATH AND PLAYED DOLLS W HER CORPSE AND ATE HER RAW FLESH WHEN THERE WAS STILL FOOD AVAILABLE!!! maybe she didn’t plan all those things but if she felt truly bad about any of them you’d never know. i love the idea that shauna loved jackie in a way that she didn’t understand / didn’t have an outlet for and i agree but this isn’t all love!! part of what makes shauna shipman so compelling and so interesting is that she contains a deep, intrinsic, irredeemable evil. she is violent and deluded and truly madly deeply fucked up beyond measure to her very core and u could tell IMMEDIATELY in s1. it was brewing in there even before the crash. and i love that for her!! let women and girls be evil! let them be so dangerous and threatening and unstable that they cannot even be chosen as leader of their cannibal girl group!!! i LOVE that shauna has tangible dark energy and is both naturally and irreparably vicious. she will kill u and throw you in the garbage. she will pick your bones and think nothing of it no matter who you are to her. she will have an excuse and it will satisfy her plenty bc she has no semblance of normally operating conscience. and i love her i love her i love her i love her!!!! 💗💕💞💓💖

I’m only like 5.5 hours into Alan Wake 2 and holy hell it’s amazing. I don’t even like survival horror games but it’s gorgeous and gripping and worth every penny to experience the game.
I know people don’t want spoilers so I’m leaving my random fangirling under the break…
Tumblr media
Ok so the graphics look amazing and Saga is super cool and pretty relatable. The mind place is the menu I was dreaming of. And Casey is giving me younger agent Trench vibes (I love him 🥹), but LOOK—Casper Darling has a book in the Dark Place! A book! Dr. Darling lives! I had to pause my play-through to screenshot this. They even threw in the black pyramid cigarettes from the FBC. It’s so old school looking. And it’s really hard to miss this Easter egg. There have to be MOAR! (The hunt for an actual Darling broadcast or video message continues!)
I will probably make an entire post about the musical level with Mr. Door and Alan. ‘The Herald of Darkness’—about lost it there too, still losing it over this. Fuck yes Old Gods of Asgard! It’s very Remedy does broadway. So much dancing. Casey. Alan. The Poets. It’s ridiculous in the best way. My squeals of joy/terror accompanied each flare gun firing. They gave Matt actual singing lines!!! And he sounds amazing! (Can I have more of that? Will that be on the Old Gods of Asgard album? Cause I’ll buy it for this track!…it’s not out until Dec 8th 😩) It’s not the ashtray maze, but damn, it’s up there with fave moments so far.
Most terrifying moment so far goes to the smoldering train car of death. Not the boss fight with Mr. I-am-still-missing-my-13-years-dead-heart in all his dark teleporting prowess. That was a great combat learning experience. Poor Saga died an ungodly amount of times till I realized where the ammo was stashed. So not the boss fight. Nope. Instead it’s the train car with the creepy bodies that Alan writes in! His idea. The bastards don’t even let you run through it. And I was going to but nooo they made it a drawn out cutscene where Alan clambers through the burnt wreckage. The whole moment is so intense, the ambient sound swells as the singed corpses seem to reach for you. He’s so shaken that it doesn’t even need a jump scare.
Yay for horror that doesn’t need gallons of blood and gore! :D

Ethics funny
Ok so sometime in my second year of college I was taking an introduction to ethics class. And the ethics class goal was to “teach students to consider moral dilemmas in a rational manner” or some such shit but basically I found out academics can turn ANY subject into something to memorize so we basically ended up learning all these old dude with beards beliefs on their own systems of morals they made up, which was actually pretty cool cause my teacher was amazing.
And so basically we would learn about these different moral theories for how we should act and every time we learned one my professor would take a poll of “who thinks this is a good basis for morality and who doesn’t”.
(My professor made it very clear from the start that any religion was an integral part of ethics, so it was always a valid view to place your polls on and take into account, just as not having one was)
One day we were studying some theory or another, I don’t remember the name, but it was a type of utilitarianism, which said that the right thing to do was that which maximized pleasure and goodness.
So after talking about the theory for awhile I was like you know this seems like a pretty good moral code right? Just do what maximizes goodness or whatever.
Then the class takes a poll as usual, and I voted that yes, I thought this seemed like a good moral basis.
And then.
As he was taking a vote for who didn’t like this moral theory, I realized, and screamed,
“Wait I have a religion!”
And thrust my hand in the air and asked to change my vote because I remembered this was not the moral law that the religion I chose to believe in approved of.
And oh my god guys it was so funny the whole class just burst out laughing and everyone was joking like
have y’all ever gotten so deep into ethical debates you forgot you had a freaking religion and believed in God? Lol
Anyways so it was even funnier because for the rest of the poll like ten members of the class changed their votes as well because they too had forgotten…
And then for the rest of the semester we would take polls and someone would change their vote and we’d be like “did you forget your religion too” and most of the time they actually did
Somehow still we were all very open minded and willing to consider these other moral laws (cause like you can’t have true faith without being able to consider other views) (and there were several various religions in that class not just Christianity whoo diversity) but
but seriously guys it was so funny
Have you ever been so deep in ethical debates you forgot your religion?
Yes.
Yes I have.
And so did half my class apparently! And we teased each other about it relentlessly
But a professor that encourages diversity of thought and expressing it? taking various religions (and absence of) into account and considering all views respectfully when forming opinions? That professor was unreal and I was very lucky.
In an almost solely Christian town having someone at a College teaching kids to HAVE different opinions, and different religions, and that that was ok was... incredible. And honestly? For the atheist kids in that class who had been told that having a different mindset wasn't ok, they had so much healing when we just. laughed together in acceptance of mental diversity. Because we actually found joy and laughter in seeing different views? I made so many friends... except the one kid who just refused to study at all. he annoyed me. This one girl with a hijab was sooo sweet and smart plus the atheist kid who hated Aristotle's guts, that class was so cool
(and now? when anyone who's faced religious discrimination in that class hears of a different religion, instead of flinching away from the negativity, we smile because we remember our little group of peers in a class about ethics who were young and dumb and just loved laughing together in acceptance. I think everyone should have such a memory... perhaps it should even be standard over negative ones)
I ended up starting a running gag in my ethics class where when students would suddenly remember to account for their religion in their opinions and we'd tease them about it (the professor was the head teaser ok we had like ten minutes every time where we laughed at having to change our votes because of forgetting our religion from debating too long)
And this is super expressive of the much larger issue of why people do or don't believe in religion in the first place, because people debate themselves out of facts or whatever, and perhaps this isn't that funny out of context
But with all the problems with religion and disbelief in the world, I ended up in a class of young adults having no idea what to do with their lives, laughing our heads off because we kept having to change our votes on polls because we forgot which religion we believed in. Which is just something inexplicably human? Large issues, deciding the courses of our lives, but maybe it's just the small moments that bring better understanding and connection or something

So we are one singular support cutscene into Edelgard’s route through Three Houses and holy shit, she’s gonna fuck me up so badly. As much as flirting with Dorothea would be fun and all, Christ the cross, the angst. She’s going right to the top of the ‘unhealthy obsession with traumatized women’ right below Harrowhark Nonagesimus. Does she beat Riza Hawkeye? Remains to be seen
…I may have a problem

Can you just imagine hasn't? When you bring it up to Reiner at first, he's pretty much reluctant in being a house husband. This is because he's used to being the one moving around, going out, and doing work, right? All his life, all he knows is roughness and the toils of war. So, what could he possibly do all day cooped up in the house? But you convince him that it's his turn to just take it easy, relax, and to this time leave things to you. It's the least you can do for him, right? So, hesitantly again, he agrees. First few hours that he spends alone while you're gone, he's just mimicking what he does for his mom when he's in her home. Coz of being in the scouts before, he can at least clean the house decently. He can at least cook a little to save his stomach from starvation, so he does that too. And then you come home after a long day at work. You see the house is clean, and there's even a meal. He's already at the table, wondering if you'd even like the food he made. He sees you just staring at your home and his mind instantly jumps into conclusion. He apologizes that he hasn't really done anything. But you just shake your head and smile brightly at him, thanking him for tidying up. And for cooking a meal; and that you're really happy because it's the coziest you've ever been, coming home. And it's all because of him. At that point, something just clicks in Reiner. Seeing you so overjoyed, sparks a passion in him, which makes him look forward to what he can do tomorrow, the next day, and the day after that… all so he can see that glowing smile on your face all the time.
Coming back from a painful day at work to this notification is possibly the best thing that happened this year 😭😭😭😭
Because omg you’re so right?! He’s been a soldier his entire life so at first he thinks he could never be something as graceful as a housewife. He’s never seen it in men before
His entire life he thought he’d marry a woman and make enough money to give her and his kids a good sheltered life.
Nd yet he is standing in the middle of the store, mindlessly gazing at the pink apron you jokingly suggested he should wear. I mean- he only just started being a stay at home husband, he didn’t even know if it was his thing yet.
And please 😭😭😭😭 my guy probably burns instant noodles ☹️ but he’s learning (Imagine he goes to his mum for help😭😭😭😭)
My guy then decided to attend a cooking course with a bunch of old ladies who call him cute and handsome (I remember an old post talking about how Reiner is every old ladies idea of handsome and that’s so fuckin true)
Anywho these old ladies become very good friends with him- since Reiner is also an old lady deep down. They correct his mistakes, ask him about his life and what you do for a living.
It doesn’t take long before he masters the basics- and even then he was nervous and doubted himself, sitting by the plate, anxiously waiting for you to come downstairs.
Your astonished at how such an intimidating man is sitting in front of you with a vivid blush and fidgeting with his fingers, his frail sweet heart depending on whatever words you decide to say next.
“ITS PERFECT REI!!” You launched off your chair to run to his side. The corners of his lips curled up into a lil giggle as you basically smothered him into your chest.

I was tagged by the lovely @archetypewriter ❤️❤️❤️ Thank you so much for thinking of me darling!!! Fair warning, though: you’ve asked *an English lit grad student* to answer questions in a written format. I hope you’ve learned your lesson lol. In my defense, I can’t help being verbose; it’s my nature!!! 😂😭
Tag 9 people you want to get to know better!!!
Last song: XTC “Respectable Street”
Last show: Burn Notice
Currently watching: I always have the tv on in the background bc it reduces anxiety for me, but I’m not necessarily watching; it’s like white noise. The shows I’m actually watching are: Burn Notice, trying to finally finish Lucifer (the second half of season 6), and I’m going to try to get to Lucky Hank either today or tomorrow, despite my having a severe issue with large beards due to traumatic childhood parent issues. I honestly can’t decide if it’s a good thing that Bob has such a terrible beard in this show or not 😭 Like the fact that he’s playing an English professor might have been too indulgent for me without the off-putting facial hair lol.
Currently reading: Unfortunately I don’t read much for pleasure at the moment. A lot of this has to do with being so behind in my dissertation, which causes me to feel like I shouldn’t/can’t read anything that isn’t research; consequently, I end up just not reading. That said, I have been reading bits of Bob’s book A Load of Hooey, which is hilarious and ridiculous but is also easy to pick up and put down because it has a lot of very short parts. Books closer to my research: Killer Apes, Naked Apes & Just Plain Nasty People: The Misuse and Abuse of Science in Political Discourse by professor emeritus of anthropology at St. Lawrence University Richard J. Perry (a history and critique of biological determinism that is written for a non-academic audience — I highly recommend it) and, a more theory-based text, The Age of Scientific Sexism: How Evolutionary Psychology Promotes Gender Profiling and Fans the Battle of the Sexes by feminist/queer theorist and Distinguished Professor of critical theory and gender/sexuality studies at University of Toronto Mari Ruti (also fantastic albeit a bit dated as it’s from 2015 — Ruti has a very interesting writing style, but this book can be challenging for someone unfamiliar with theory and/or reading heavily academic texts).
Current obsession: I mean all apologies for being interminably repetitious, but Burn Notice (as well as Jeffrey Donovan in Burn Notice because a) he’s an incredible actor and b) he is seriously fucking hot in this role). I’m actually rewatching (yes AGAIN), but mainly because I realized that I hadn’t really been paying attention to seasons 1-2 during the rewatch.
When Better Call Saul ended I wasn’t really ready to invest in a totally new show (except for a couple of shorter ones), because it left me a tad despondent I suppose. I’d watched it from day one, back in 2015, after we’d binged Breaking Bad. So I saw that Burn Notice was streaming and thought “low stakes rewatch” because even though I watched the whole series when it originally aired, it ended back in like 2013 I think, and I’d honestly forgotten how good it is. Despite its flaws, it is such an entertaining and satisfying show. It has an incredibly strong and unique female character, and the way Michael and Fiona’s relationship develops (or re-develops) is fun and frustrating and emotionally rewarding at once. They’re both deeply flawed, deeply traumatized characters who love each other more than they love themselves, and slowly they both grow to realize that they can bring out the good in each other while helping to mitigate the bad. They save other people, that’s the sort of formula of the show beyond the burned spy part, but they also save each other, in more ways than one.
I really love shows that, at their core, turn out to be about something more substantial than what appears on the surface, particularly if that something is love in some form. When a show surreptitiously sneaks in a message about love, that show tends to stick with me so much longer and affect me so much more deeply. Better Call Saul, The X-Files, The Americans (admittedly in a fucked up way), The Glory, Lucifer, Leverage (which reminds me that I still need to watch the new one), or even Bates Motel (or Buffy/Angel in some ways) all, to one extent or another, have an underlying narrative of love (not just romantic, although that’s a fave for me), as well as related themes of identity (and what it means — like both what you choose and what others assign to you and how that affects your ability to be a fulfilled human), trauma and the aftermath, and family (both blood and found). These themes are quite overt in some of the shows I mentioned and less so in others, but in my opinion the threads run through them all. However, in Burn Notice they each are incorporated into the story incredibly well, which is a big part of what makes the show so compelling for me.
Okay, essay over!!!!! All apologies 😫 Anyway here’s a photo of a special birdie friend on my mantle (the spots are blacked out for privacy bc they are photos of my nephews) ❤️
Tumblr media
I’m not going to tag nine people but I am tagging @veyzus @yellowginghamdream @tahiri-veyla @darkskywishes (though I haven’t seen them in a while so I hope all is well) and @nissameta1782 (I always feel weird tagging unless I know someone pretty well, which is weird bc I love being tagged by people I’ve never talked to before lol . . . go figure). Please don’t feel pressured!!! Ignore if you want ❤️
