im really sorry if this question ends up being repetitive: but, if not for bruce’s over reliance on dick to regulate his thoughts and emotions, why would dick grow up into feeling like he needs to repress his emotions so much and his eagerness to act as people’s support? i know youve spoken about wolfman and his altering of their relationship but if ntt is generally an accurate portrayal of an adult dick, to me this nevertheless sounds like the consequences a parent-child relationship where the responsibilities are titled too much towards the child
i suppose this could also segue into asking for recs that would help me better understand your interpretation of their relationship 👀
not repetitive at all! to me the irony of wolfman's depiction of dick lies in that it is simultaneously something you can logically ascertain from prior canon but not for the reasons actually presented by wolfman. if that makes sense. he does extra work that isn't actually necessary to help explain why dick would act the way that he does because there's plenty of reasons for it without rewriting his history with bruce to have always been suppressed and edgy and dark. to me it makes far more sense to capitalize on the inevitable disconnect between bruce and dick as an adult and a child. batman: full circle is a good example of that dichotomy (and although it was published in the early 90s it built on mike w. barr's prior understanding of the relationship between dick and bruce that he wrote into the early 80s). bruce's primary concern for the people he works with is never standards or finesse but safety. he worries constantly about others coming to harm under his watch and with a child in particular those worries were exacerbated. he ran a tight ship not because he believed dick had anything to prove but because the only way dick could keep being robin was if he went about it safely. that was obv easy for an adult to understand. but not so much for a child
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
to bruce these worries were practical and par for the course (as well as an expression of his love and protectiveness) but for dick their consequences formed the crux of his entire world. as a child he idolized everything about bruce. his heroism. his work ethic. his skill. his resolve. his preparedness. if dick couldn't live up to the standard he set for himself in idolizing bruce then what could he ever hope to amount to? that was the thought constantly going through his head. and it's why the bulk of his childhood and primary tenure as bruce's partner was so precariously protected by the fact that nothing bad ever really happened during it (and admittedly this framing is convenient because even chronologically speaking nothing very significant happened in their history with each other until dick left for university in 1969) (i know dixon opted to write that whole shtick with dent in his version of events but personally i never found it necessary to do so). there is enough there in the idea of dick working hard for the course of a decade to embody who he believed bruce to be that lends itself to it eventually being difficult for him to healthily express himself once the rift between them actually began to emerge
because what about bruce was there to actually see that was broken and dark before dick became an adult? i know a lot of dick fans hate batman #408 because they don't like that it enforced "retirement" upon dick (which i personally believe is a conclusion they come to because of the way batman #416 re-framed the same scene) but to me that's an inaccurate reading of the text. batman #408 was about bruce (admittedly far too belatedly) recognizing that he could not in good conscience continue to ask dick to go out and be a vigilante on what he considered to be his own "orders". he viewed dick's close call with death at the hands of the joker as something directly of his own making. although their tenure with each other had been wonderful if dick wanted to continue to be a vigilante it had to be on his own terms and of his own volition. obv that was logical to bruce and it was something dick managed to accept in the moment. but it's still hard to go from always having a purpose alongside someone you idolized to finally being entrusted entirely to forge your own
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
in general i like the idea of dick the adult becoming privy to all of the personal problems and conflicts that come with being a vigilante. he was conveniently shielded from a lot of those problems as a child because all he had to do was be bruce's partner and hope to live up to the title. bruce had no reason to trauma dump on him or talk about his worries and concerns at length with him because it was never supposed to be dick's job to field those worries and concerns in the first place. he was a child. the only thing bruce wanted to do was to help channel his emotions through an outlet and provide him with a home to grow up in. but when you become an adult often that dynamic shifts. you're still not responsible for fielding those worries and concerns but you can perhaps be trusted with them. that's why i like the framing in batman #408 of dick now being a man. it's a subtle way to frame the double-edged sword of adulthood. the world is in your hands now but so will be the horrors that come with it. coming to terms with the real world that bruce lives in should be hard for dick. coming to terms with who bruce is when he's not perfect should be hard. coming to terms with how quietly bruce kept his grief because he did not see fit to overwhelm a child with it should be hard. that dichotomy of dick both wanting to be bruce's brother and his son should form the crux of their conflict with each other because you can't hope to be someone's equal and someone's protected at the same time in that kind of relationship. for dick to transition into the position of equal he has to expose himself to the fact that bruce is not in fact an idol but someone irrevocably human. and that should interfere significantly with his head and his own standards for himself
#all of this to say. i don't think it's so much about pre-ntt canon directly predicating ntt-dick's characterization#like it's not these events happened in the 60s and 70s so that's why he acts this way in the 80s#it's more the opposite. because these things Didn't happen in the 60s and 70s. that's why being on his own in the 80s is hard#dick wants so badly to be bruce's equal and an adult and a leader and someone trusted by others#but those are all things easier said than done. and the worst tragedy of it is that the bruce dick knows from childhood#is not the bruce he knows in adulthood. they are from the same person. but they are still different#because there are things dick is allowed to see as an adult that bruce spared him from when he was a child#and on one hand that was the right thing to do. but on the other hand it's devastating. because dick obv doesn't know how to cope#how do you cope with the fact that your decade-long idol is not in fact what you made him up to be#(and the thing is it's not that bruce isn't what dick made him up to be) (it's that he's also other things)#(he's sad. he's guilty. he's exhausted. sometimes he doesn't know how to go on)#reconciling with those realities should be unbearable for dick. because being robin has given him so much purpose#and while being batman gives bruce purpose too there are also so many times where he absolutely bends under the weight of it#and that sight should be frightening to dick#that's why i really like knightfall. or the potential of it because i mean prodigal did not deal with the aftermath of it#in a way that i liked at all. it was quite underwhelming#and then you guys obv know my issues with the framing of dick's reaction to jason's death and his conversation with bruce there#but the idea of dick needing to cope with bruce being a human capable of breaking under his own imposed duties is impt#and so my reading of their relationship is less about things written explicitly in text and more about drawing logical inferences#idk. i feel like i am all over the place i'm not sure if this sufficiently answers your question i'm sorryjgfkldghf#outbox

The idea of the barbie movie makes me feel some way that is hard to describe for the same reason a lot of my agender experiences are hard to describe. There's a lot of concrete language, projected expectations, shared understanding of binary gender experiences... but not very much for 'null' experiences.
Nonbinary experiences are muted in general, but often do get described-- in contrast to the binary. Even 'gender-neutral' is usually conceptualized as androgynous, could-be-male-or-female. 'Neither gender' is usually thought of like, 'a secret third thing' rather than 'nothing.'
I grew up disliking barbies because they were a toy my parents didn't prefer. My parents are older, so they saw a lot of cultural shifts: the '60s as kids, the '70s as young adults, the '80s happened as they began to gain stability and had me in the '90s. So the journey from 'baby dolls' to 'fashion dolls' really didn't hit any feminist women-can-be-adults statement to either of them. They were fully awake for Reaganism and how it turbo-boosted femininity as a consumer product. I know that's the opposite of the typical 'my boomer parents' narrative but it's the truth.
So I didn't play with dolls, dress-up or otherwise, much as a child. I found other outlets for that type of play that satisfied me. I played a lot of pretend, I dressed up in my own costumes, I designed characters, I wrote and drew them, and I 'dressed up' avatars in video games. I really didn't feel like I missed anything.
I began questioning my gender more when I had to present more feminine for things like job interviews and for work. I realized that I was playing a role that was not 'me', but dressing up like a doll. You know, not just 'costume time' but 'costume time, with accessories that come in the box.'
It disturbed me for a little while, but eventually I found the idea freeing. For the first time, I was not just 'bad at doing 'girl' but 'someone who can assume the form of a girl' even if the way I acted and felt was just 'me.' It occurred to me that ordinary girls probably didn't feel like they were collecting 'garb' like for a SCA event or a ren faire to go into the city every day. I am going to the party in disguise, I am a shapeshifter, I can Assume The Form You're Comfortable With, impostor syndrome who?
For a lot of people, this would be 'being in the closet.' Or it would be 'girlmoding' or 'boymoding' or whatever. And others might be like, 'it's not trans representation to present as the gender you're assigned at birth!' But it's actually impossible to 'present as' the null. We don't look at the people around us and think 'are they all in costume, pretending? What if they're nothing?'
In fact, conservative power despises this idea and projects it on the most vulnerable people in the queer community. If somebody passes an anti-cross-dressing law, they think they are safe from doubt. But if they went to a wedding and everyone in their gowns and suits told them, we're not men or women, it's dress-up, it would be a nightmare for them.
To me, the idea of 'a doll' is that whatever the plastic looks like, that is not a girl. Ceci n'est pas une pipe, you know?

Hm, on one hand your post irritates me because I did pretty poorly in my STEM degree but unequivocally Learned Things, but on the other hand I would have definitely Learned More Things if I didn't have to come up with thousands of dollars every year for tuition and transportation. Don't you think failing everyone who gets a C- or less is a bit extreme?
This might have been specific to my experience or to physics rather than all of STEM, but the people who were getting a C- weren't getting a 70% on all of their exams, everything in upper level classes was necessarily graded on a curve. Which is the correct way to do it imo, it's hard to design an exam so that people who "know" the material all score exactly in the 70-100% range on the exam. Usually this is accomplished by erring on the side of challenging the students more rather than less, where 50% or so of the material on the exam is something you expect anyone would know, and the remainder is more challenging and requires an actual synthesis and understanding of the material, and often this gets you a nice distribution. But sometimes the professor messes up and they need to salvage an exam that was accidentally too challenging, where the class average was in the 60s. I even had an E&M exam that was so hard the professor refused to tell us anything beyond "none of you got a passing grade so I'm not counting it." So despite the appearance of numerical data, evaluation is a lot less of an exact science than one might expect!
But to illustrate the point, we had the opposite problem happen once with a newer professor, he accidentally screwed up and made the (take home!) midterm so easy in senior-level Intro to Quantum Mechanics that the median score was 100. This was, admittedly, complicated by the fact that due to our program's research specialties in AMO meant that at least a handful of us already knew everything there was to learn in that class before we took it. But despite this median score, which was achieved by more than just the kids who already knew the material, the lower mode of people still scored poorly! So there wasn't really much to do other than make the final nigh-impossible, which meant that all of those C and D kids failed to graduate on time anyway and had to "retake" quantum the next year when the curve would be more forgiving. I'm skeptical from having talked to and worked with many of them that they actually learned anything beyond intro physics.
However, I am probably being somewhat unfair in ways I don't realize due to, quite frankly, immense privilege. I came into college with two years worth of credit from AP exams and still took a full courseload and graduated in four, not only summa cum laude, but #2 in my class, despite basically taking no freshman and barely any sophomore-level classes to pad my GPA with. I thrived on the stress and conflict of test-taking and laughed (while still crying) about take-home exams that could and did take an entire weekend. I took the Putnam exam "for fun" my sophomore year and got a 10, beating all the math majors who took it that year. I was an obnoxious asshole about all of this, which I should probably regret more than I do. But by all accounts this means I'm the entirely wrong person to know what causes people to struggle with exams even if they do know the material. Throw sharp and heavy things at me, I probably deserve it.
But despite all that... I still feel that I didn't learn all of the physics as well as I probably should have? Many of those curves were strongly weighted in my favor because I happened to be the first or second highest score, which meant I got basically the same final grade in a class whether I slacked off a bit or not. And yeah, I think part of it is that Physics is really hard, and a four-year undergrad program with rigidly scheduled exams is not going to be remotely accessible or accommodating to anyone with a severe disability or extenuating life circumstances.
But when it's the same kids every semester who are barely passing, I think that at some point you have to say that even if the system *is* fundamentally broken and unfair, it's both of those things in a way where the people it's failed really haven't learned anything and so shouldn't receive a degree saying they have? Possibly they often don't even know what they don't know? I think that most physics classes form roughly discrete packets of curriculum, but as someone who has written and scored exams, I don't think 70% on an exam doesn't imply that even close to 70% of the knowledge was mastered. I'm not sure that any exam I took was ever that comprehensive, and I don't think that "learned some things" rather than nothing is really enough to cut it.

Han Sooyoung spoke through gritted teeth. "Yoo Joonghyuk became an 'author." "Why did he suddenly get such an attribute?" "I guess he wanted to write a new story in a very sincere manner. That is the condition to opening the 'author' trait." I could understand but also didn't understand. A world that couldn't complete the round but was struggling to survive… Yoo Joonghyuk went out of it in order to write his own story.
Okay, so it’s actually possible that Dokja will get the writer attribute one day as well? I assume if he happens to get it, it'll be when he stops thinking of himself as a reader and completely deviates from the novel.
Like, Dokja keeps talking about wanting to make his story, and he has made choices that Joonghyuk didn’t make, but I’m guessing he’s actually been following the novel in some way probably 60-70% of the time. Sure, Joonghyuk didn’t destroy the Throne in his third round but he did eventually destroy it. He didn’t fight an outer god in the early scenarios but he did fight one. He eventually went to the underworld. He eventually did most of the things Dokja has done. So I guess that while Dokja remains somewhat on the path of Joonghyuk, even if he’s stopping to do some things Joonghyuk wouldn’t chose to do, he won’t be considered making his own story.
"Yoo Joonghyuk is no longer a character. What do you think that means?" I closed my mouth. "It is no longer a novel." My heart pounded at Han Sooyoung's words. [The exclusive skill 'Fourth Wall' is strongly activated!]
And speaking of stories, Dokja is really holding onto the idea that this is a novel, isn’t he? I mean, obviously he would see it as a novel more than anyone else, save the author, but I’m starting to worry what might happen if he fully accepts that it maybe it isn't. People are starting to question Dokja over his belief that it's a novel and, honestly, whether it started as one or not, the fact that he's living it right now and can't seem to find a way out of it sort of implies that it's not anymore? Or that it's both at least - a novel and real life.
Actually, Dokja hasn’t gotten back around to looking into it yet (if he even wants to) but there's still so much going on in regards to Dokja being a character (potentially, we don't know what his attributes window says right this moment) and Joonghyuk not being a character. So because Joonghyuk is moving past what the novel has written about him, he can no longer be considered a character, which is the opposite of the apostles who became characters when they reached the end of their knowledge for TWSA.
But that just makes me wonder how Dokja could ever possibly be considered a character. (Without getting into theories of Dokja having always been one, which I’m still on the fence about.)
Obviously the Sooyoung of the 1863rd realm is a character now but I’m starting to wonder if it’s not as simple as “you’ve read up to here and this person hasn’t” or vice versa if you started as a character. I’m wondering if it’ll come down to Dokja really accepting that this isn’t a novel anymore and how that might affect his ability to change (or even read) TWSA.
Also, the fact that both Joonghyuk and Sooyoung were able to split themselves, and that's not even counting the fact that Dokja went into a parallel TWSA while his 3rd round still existed somewhere, really does lead me back to my old theories that Secretive Plotter and/or Joonghyuk's sponsor is going to be alternate universe Dokja and/or Joonghyuk. Not to mention the fact that Dokja's ending is both final chapter and eternity while Joonghyuk is the eternal guy who can't die due to his sponsor's stigma...
It does answer a question I had about whether Joonghyuk could choose not to regress or not. Like, Dokja's Joonghyuk seemingly did just that, but now I wonder if that was just for that moment and if he dies fully he can't stop it? Like, if it were that easy for Joonghyuk to just not regress, why hasn't he before? Unless the only reason 1863rd Joonghyuk was comfortable not regressing was because he believed Sooyoung would save the world for him.
...Which is, uh, kind of similar to the faith Dokja's Joonghyuk has placed in him now that I think about it.

i do see plenty of people complaining at tryst six venom (p. douglas) being homophobic and fetishizing lesbians, that the women seem "written by a man" and how it is an overall disgusting book, and after reading and analysing it a couple times (because i did enjoy it for... various reasons) i want to have my take on it:
• from what i know, penelope is popular for her bullying romance/s, which (exception tsv) are pretty much heterosexual. i don't say it is a healthy manner to approach romance, i say it is a pattern of her writing that didn't show up when she published a wlw book
• regarding homophobia (because Clay used slurs), i want to ask a question before my argument: how do you see homophobic people act? or talk about queer people? Clay, as a characther, for 70% percent of the book, she's fighting with self homophobia, which i am sorry is this a new word for you? how many queer people fight with this on a daily basis? there are plenty issues with the book, if i like it doesn't mean i can't approach the actual issues, but homophobia because there are slurs in the book? CLAY IS HOMOPHOBIC? RAISED IN A HOMOPHOBIC SOCIETY? how do you expect her to think/talk? don't get me started with the enviroment that allowed/pushed her to grow this way in her teenagehood. they were pretty much explained if you actually TAKE YOUR TIME and read through the lines :D
• another thing is fetishising wlw which i do have some words to add. in olivia's pov, the way she process some events/ interactions, tell the story how she feels being fetishised, realising people can take advantage of your sexuality, besides the bullying, and how pretty much it reflects the real world. you think it's disgusting? it happens daily to queer people. is it toxic for a straight (i dont think she is too straight based on how she wrote some scenes but lets not assume peoples sexuality😭) woman to write about it? yes, IF the character would be made to normalise it. liv didn't. 60% of her development is based on her fighting it, being tired of it, running from it, teasing with it, etc. all the stages, call it what you want. it happens daily. it happens irl.
• the "women that seem written by men" argument pissed me off the most, because in media, from which i've seen, often the lesbian couples are made from one girly/femme girl and the other is kinda masculine/butch or stem which feeds more into the stereotype of "who is the man in relationship?" and that a wlw couple has to contain one feminine and one masculine side. i don't have any issues with these couples. but the fact that both were pretty feminine as style and personality, doesn't mean they were made for the male gaze/ by a male gaze. femmes can fall for other femmes too, you know.
• i think penelope showed through clay how it is to battle inner homophobia (especially as a queer person) and the fear of rejection from the loved ones, and how this can turn into hate and make you do disgusting things. make it make sense how it's homophobic 😭😭😭
there are, as well, lots of problematic parts: from the marker scene (that made me give an instant -1 without discussion, unnecessary scene), from liv accepting a bit TOO MUCH in the name of love -but it's a common thing in these kind of books-, livs brothers that piSSED ME OFF they are annoying, to the almost r*pe scene, i mean i got the idea of it but she could send the message a bit more.. differently, aaaand etc.
are liv and clay one my confort characthers? yes. is the book problematic to some extent? yes. is the book homophobic/fetishising wlw? i'm sorry but it doesn't make sense to me HOW.
you don't like a book, that's cool, but from that to shitting on an author (which i somehow get bc she isn't my favourite as well but you do you) for the opposite she tried to show in a book? :)))) cmon

Keith: people are scared of him, always has a knife on his person. Also Keith: loves to hold hands, enthusiastically hugs and kisses his drummer. Charlie: always described as being kind and gentle, a cinnamon bun. Also Charlie: knocks a man with a gun completely unconscious because he wants peace to watch tv.
There is a real contrast between image and reality, no doubt.
Although I think, because of how famous the story of Charlie punching Mick is, more people realize that he was capable of being tough/kickass than know that Keith isn't nearly as scary as his image might suggest. The quote from Andy Johns, a sound engineer and Glyn's brother, is always good on that:
“I was especially scared of Keith 'cause he's such a scary character. I was scared shitless of Keith for years. The way he looked was so fuckin' evil. And of course he's not like that at all. Keith is an old softie completely. But I didn't know that. And Keith does put up that front. He loves to play that out. Most of the time he believes that.”
The thing is, the older Keith gets, the worse he is at hiding the fact that he actually is "an old softie." Especially in regards to Charlie. You could theoretically trace a whole kind of development pattern with it.
1960s: The Era of Playing It Cool
The early Stones were working hard to cultivate their bad boy image, and Keith certainly contributed by trying to act above it all when it came to Charlie. Not that he was mean (in more than a kidding way, at least), but the enthusiasm for his drummer that we all know and love wasn't quite on display yet:
Tumblr media
That being said, even in the '60s, what would develop later was starting to peek through. Keith and Charlie never looked as awkward in publicity shots or candids, for example, as Bill and Brian or Mick Taylor often did together. Those two are about to fall out of the hammock as they try their hardest not to touch each other, while Keith and Charlie are happily curled up with each other on the opposite side:
Tumblr media
1970s: The Era with the First Real Glimmers of Fanboying to Come
'70s Keith, like Robert Greenfield's book on the STP shows, was still capable of being a little tough on Charlie, but it hardly ever lasted:
“During the first show the tempo on stage got a little tangled with Charlie hanging back a beat or two and Keith began shouting, 'Faster, Charlie, faster. Fuck you. COME ON,’ stamping in time to show what he meant. It’s something that’s happened before, and the two of them go offstage with their arms around each other.”
This was also when we get the first glimpse of Keith going gaga over Charlie in interviews. The quotes aren't quite as prosaic as they would be later, but the enthusiasm is there in spades:
Tumblr media
(He was saying that in reference to a journalist asking why the band was still together in 1978).
And this picture was probably, in retrospect, the biggest sign of what was to come. In that Keith would be less and less capable of hiding the expression as the years went on:
Tumblr media
1980s: The Era When It Started to Become Really and Truly Clear That Keith Had It Bad for Charlie
Keith in the '80s, just as before, definitely wasn't above communicating his affection by getting a bit rough, like when Charlie wasn't paying enough attention to Mick's introduction and was, unacceptably for Keith, missing out on the audience's roaring reception for him, but he was as likely to hold hands as throw a fake punch:
Tumblr media
Here is when the long, dissertation worthy disquisitions on the personal and professional excellence of Charlie Watts begin to become a mainstay of Keith interviews, too. I won't reproduce the entire (amazing) quote, because it will take up at least two paragraphs of space, but this one from 1988 is a classic of the genre:
"Charlie is incredibly honest...He just sees right through you to start with. And he's not even that interested in knowing, he just does. That's Charlie Watts. He just knows you immediately. If he likes you, he'll tell you things, give you things, and you'll leave feeling like you've been talking to Jesus Christ...So you see what I mean about who the hell can I possibly play with after this guy with such a sense of space and touch. The only word I can use for Charlie is deep."
Of course, it can't be forgotten that this is the Keith who put aside his bitter feud with Mick to go see Charlie's first venture as a solo jazz performer, and to cheer him on together:
Tumblr media
1990s: The Era When We Found Out That Keith Wasn't Just a Member of the Charlie Watts Fan Club, He Was The President
Well, co-president, with Mick.
'90s Keith took a sharp turn for the softer about the man he described as "my favorite person", and never turned back. I have limited space here, so I can't get out all the gifs and pictures, but this is the decade when Keith felt absolutely zero shame about kissing Charlie on the side of the mouth, cheek, or head in front of a stadium full of people. Or the international press corps. Or his wife.
What he had to say then reflected the same gentler, more sentimental spirit:
“I drove up to the joint we were rehearsing in one afternoon, and I could hear these drums going. I thought ‘Ah, Charlie’s here’. So I killed the engine and sat in the car for about five minutes listening to him playing – just warming up. ‘Yeah, soundin’ good’. Then I started to get my stuff together to go inside, and I happened to see myself in the driving mirror. I had this silly grin on my face. I didn’t even know I was smiling, but that’s what Charlie does for me.”
He wasn't kidding, either. Charlie simply laughing at one of his jokes was enough to provoke that look:
Tumblr media
2000s: The Era When The Full Extent of Keith's Love for Charlie Became Something Anyone (And Everyone) Could See
Between Keith's memoir, Life (which was published in 2010 but written earlier), and Martin Scorcese's Shine A Light, pretty much anyone who hadn't yet caught on to Keith's total adoration for Charlie in the preceding four decades wasn't possibly going to be able to miss it now.
Even a little.
And not only because Scorsese chose to keep in a scene where Keith tries to convince him to stick a camera in Charlie's bass drum because he's "the only one" who sees all of the amazing stuff that happens in there:
Tumblr media
As to Life, the easiest way to explain what happened there is to say that one of the early chapters of the book has a 20 or so page saga, written in some of the most excited prose of the book, about everything Keith (and Mick) did to get Charlie to become their drummer, and how it all paid off because Keith snagged himself "the best jazz drummer of the goddamn century", so anyone that thinks otherwise can fight him:
"Alexis Korner's Blues Incorporated...also had the young Charlie Watts on drums and sometimes Ian Stewart on piano. That's where I fell in love with the men!...We said, "God, we'd love to have that Charlie Watts if we could afford him" - we all thought he was a God-given drummer - and then Stu put the feelers out...“We starved ourselves in order to pay for him! Literally. We went shoplifting to get Charlie Watts. We cut down on our rations we wanted him so bad, man. And now we’re stuck with him! To me Charlie Watts was the secret essence of the whole thing."
He was just as bad on the book tour:
Tumblr media
2010s to Present: The Era of Absolute (Public) Devotion
Honestly, this is probably the Keith that has always existed inside, since the first day he saw Charlie with Alexis Korner and "fell in love" with him, fully liberated.
It's certainly the Keith we're all used to in terms of just limitless physical affection and overwhelming enthusiasm for Charlie. No-one blinks an eye when Keith calls Charlie "absolutely the coolest guy I know" and we expect nothing less than this whenever he has a chance to talk:
"Charlie Watts is playing his arse off! He’s absolutely amazing. It’s indescribable to find a drummer like Charlie Watts, exceptionally brilliant. I can never praise Charlie enough."
The last statement is, of course, the truest.

It's well known that Ollie had a bad relationship with Hawkman (Carter/Katar but in this post I'll refer to him as Katar) It was said that their relationship is bad bc of ideology, Ollie being a leftist/liberal (depending the version) and Katar a conservative. The first time I read Katar being referring as such was in Justice League International #20 btw I love the JLI but its Katar version is a exaggerated one (obviously for fun) and represented him as being a really strict angry man that hates jokes (doesn't understand them and still takes thing seriously) and thinks the JLA was better before bc their were "more serious" (that's a lie btw) It's somehow a strange version bc if you read Katar comics from that time, he was really a chill dude.
When you read Katar and Ollie's interactions from the JLA comics (60s, 70s and 80s), well, actually all that was bullshit. The reason why they have such a complicated relationship is because of their personalities (Katar being too rigid and rule-oriented and Ollie being the opposite, also the fact that Katar is too serious and don't understand jokes while Ollie is always telling jokes, also Katar being an introverted, kinda shy and not so talkative person and Ollie being the exact opposite) In fact, Ollie acted the same way with every JLA member, the only difference with Katar was that he take what Ollie says seriously and cannot say something.
Justice League of America (1960) #104
Tumblr media
This was the first time Ollie said something that Katar didn't take well. But as you can see, it's more about they being themselves.
Justice League of America (1960) #109
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In fact, when Katar announced that he was leaving the JLA, Ollie had a bad reaction to it. It's not like he hated Katar (although, Hawkman thought that), he just liked to mess with him (as I say, he acts like that with everybody, including Dinah and Hal)
But obviously Katar came back. And then it was kinda common that they tried to had a better relationship, always having Dinah and Shayera by their side bc they are friends. Both, Katar and Ollie tried. But, like I say, it's difficult. Katar tends to take things literally and has a hard time knowing when someone is joking or being serious. And Ollie tends to be too sarcastic, sometimes uses a lot of metaphors and expressions that can be confusing if you are someone who take things literall, also he's too direct with what he's saying and speaks his mind off. They always gonna have a communication problem bc they don't even know about that they have differences understanding and talking with each other.
Justice League of America (1960) #145
Tumblr media
Then I think their relationship is more about communication problems and having really different personalities, and not about their ideology. If you think about it, Ollie has this same problem with Barry (Barry is pretty similar to Katar) but with him, the problem also includes ideology (Barry defending the police, I know Katar is also a policeman but for some reason he didn't get defensive like Barry) and issues around who is Hal's best friend.
Justice League of America (1960) #145
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
See, Ollie says something and Katar just doesn't know if he's being serious and too direct or not, Dinah knows he's being rude with him btw. But after all they kinda develop a nice relationship.
The only time they actually had a discussion about their moral code was when Barry killed Reverse Flash. The JLA had to vote if Barry will continue to be a member or not. Katar voted to expel him and Ollie voted that Barry had to still be a JLA member, also defending him. This is the only one disagreement they have that was tough.
Justice League of America (1960) #225
Tumblr media
The funny thing about this disagreement is that not so much later Katar is gonna regret a lot his first opinion about Barry's situation. Like I said before, he is too rigid and rule-oriented but after some thing that happened to him, he understood better why Barry accidentally killed Eobard.
Hawkman Special (1986)
Tumblr media
But also sometimes Ollie could be mean and rude with others. The JLA members didn't take him seriously or didn't engage in having a discussion with him. But Katar sometimes couldn't handle it, other moments he just didn't care/ignored Ollie's intention.
Ollie was pretty wild and rude, he was almost all the time arguing with other JLA members or saying whatever thing he was thinking.
Justice League of America (1960) #151
Tumblr media
Fun fact: In Hawkworld (1989), a post-crisis comic about Katar's origin story, is established that he was from a aristocratic family living in the Winged World where the upper class were. But he had a different ideology, deciding to join the wingmen (Thanagar's police) to help people from the lower classes. He was also fixated with Thanagar's history, thinking the present of his planet is rotten and horrible. He was a little bit like Oliver (I know this version of Katar is supposed to not be the same one that joined to the JLA but based on Hawkman from 2018 their are the same person now) So, again, their tense relationship isn't from having different ideology.
Btw, in the 00s it was established this version of Hawkman who was too conservative and so annoying and shitty (I hate this version so much omg, I'm going to pretend it doesn't exists) This version is supposed to be the first one that mixed Carter (a guy from the 40s) with Katar (the thanagarian dude) And it was with this version that it was said Hawkman and Oliver hated each other for their ideology and moral code. Another point to add: This version of Hawkman is more aggressive, hothead and, like I said before, annoying. The Hawkman that Ollie knew was really kind and kinda socially awkward, really different btw.
So yeah, I hate the retcon of their relationship bc the original was so funny lmao. I like their dynamic a lot. And they kinda became friends lol.

It was arrival day for the conversion camp, and Virgil didn't want to be apart of this at all.He had thought coming out to his parents as gay and trans was going to end up good,he thought they would say they love him no matter what.Instead...Instead he was stupid and idiotic.Instead he was a fool and the exact opposite happened. He was locked in his room until the day came to step into the bus that would'help to cleanse from the demons inside his body'.Yeah..He was stupid and now was regretting it
Janus was in a similar boat, coming out a gender fluid and gay was not exactly the best thing he could’ve done. His parents said that it’s not normal, and said he needed fixing. He thinks it was more of the gay reason because they didn’t exactly know what the term gender fluid was till he told them. He had all of his bags being unloaded into the cabin he was in and setting up his bunk bed where he was on the top of. He had no clue what was going to happen, he’s heard stories that they did years ago in like the 70’s and 60’s so he couldn’t imagine it would be that bad nowadays. He took a deep breath and sat on the top of his bed, in jeans and a yellow and black button down dress shirt.

#finishedbooks Beyond Culture by Edward T. Hall. Had this on my wish list forever, and wasn't sure what to expect, but it immediately started to remind me a lot of the previously reviewed book "Culture of Narcissism". Both were written in the 70s and felt dated with this one seemingly to have aged worse with the human potential movement seeming to be what he is relating...that we now know led to nothingness more or less because going so far into yourself (relating to "Culture of Narcissism") that social injustices and all those things that mattered in the 60s, devolved into a sort of individual socialism of self help. With that he changes gears and goes into the importance of the role context plays in societies and this was where the book became amazing to me because if you know me I always stress context! He goes about this by providing a high and low scale of context in societies that to an extent is predicated on language and spreads through out. High context (HC) communication is one in which most of the information is either in physical context or internalized in the person while very little is in the coded, explicit, transmitted part of the message. Low context (LC) communication is just the opposite, that is the mass of the information is vested in the explicit code. Relating this to societies, America would be on the lower end of context needed in everyday life than say China where at its most fundamental in language, requires considerable context to understand (there are 214 radicals). Further and fun fact, Chinese orthography (calligraphy) is even an art form, where no low context communication system has ever been an art form, which makes sense because good art is always high context and therefore persists. Spreading from linguistics...anywhere one looks the subtle hand of contexting can be detected. Both HC and LC underlie the law of societies as it is designed to operate a part from the rest of life. In the US there is the common inadmissibility of testimony that sets our courts apart and makes them harsh, inhuman and impersonal. One has to only think of the common court room drama phrase, “Answer the question, Yes or No.” Where one might say, "yes, but..." and be denied the chance to contextualize. Such a statement reveals the US courts as the epitome of low context systems that do not afford equal treatment. But if this system is to operate it requires highly skilled and thoughtful jurors who in effect are in place to bring context to the system balancing it out. In contrast, French courts offer more leeway and in effect want to find out as much as possible about the circumstances behind the surface acts that brought the people to the bench. Everything is admissible, so in effect French trials are much higher contexts than US ones. Pardoxly, the French system then places the decision solely in the hands of a judge, removing the American added source of contexting balance. So you will see one system is not better than the other, only that they are different and are consistently representative of the culture's contextual spectrum. Moving from law to literature the author correctly points to Japanese literature and cites in particular Kawbata Yasunari as a great example of HC which I would entirely agree with. He didn't but I will add Kawabata utilizes mono no awaré while rejecting plot and bases meaning upon simple everyday instances for something terse, laconic, and concerned as much with what is left out as left in....negative space. Things happen and there aren't causal connections like convential narratives, but associative ones more like poetry. There is an intergal structure with an impossibly rigorous internal logic of their own all suggesting the amount of context required. A lot of staples of classic Japanese cinema reinforce this as well from Mizoguchi who refused close ups which I would consider the most LC camera move in cinema to Ozu who would be a perfect example....

A day in my life really depends on what's happening. That said, usually I have themes. For instance, I have a priority list, and I have decision logs that chronicle all the things I am trying to figure out.
I end up trying to insert themes into my days. Like today, for instance, I have a meeting with my small team to begin the week; I reserved my afternoon for product reviews—what we call “greenpathing exercises”—where, oddly, I'm trying to discern how everyone is thinking about the main things we're working on. I do this because oftentimes I feel as though I am the connective tissue combining operations, finance, and more formal business functions with the product itself. This connection helps me to make good decisions.
A lot of this is almost automatic by just having a good color coding system, which is really fun
I made two decisions: one, I'm going to try to learn as much about business as possible. But, if business is very different from software architecture, I'm going to be no good no matter what I do. And so, I ran an experiment to treat engineering principles, software architecture, complex system design, and company building as the same thing. Effectively, we looked for the business equivalent of just turning off servers to see if the system has resiliency. For instance, we used to ask people to use their mouse on their non-dominant hand for a day. We introduced these little nudges to ensure that people didn’t become complacent.
I believe that the job we all have in life is to acquire knowledge and wisdom and then share it. I just don’t know what else there is. This is the bedrock of my belief system.
When I get close to any field, I think about how far I want to go. I'm probably further along with programming. I don’t know if I want to get from 90 to 91% in programming when, with the same amount of work, I could figure out the first 60 to 70% of UX or even something like drawing. There’s a recent book about this called Range, which I really like. The book pushes in this direction and explores this topic a bit more than I do. But I just found myself nodding throughout reading it, because it turns out that very often—really, every field has fundamental wisdom that you discover when you're learning and talking to the people who have mastered it. I find that going wide and learning the best lessons from the people who have dedicated their entire lives to a certain pursuit gets you really, really close to mastery.
people show up with a mastery of certain instruments. Someone ends up being the jazz director and the rest of the band follows
I've always gravitated towards competing against myself in most things.
I really love failing. I feel so good when I do something, and it just doesn't work; especially if I get the feedback about why it didn't work. That gives me a project to work at to improve. And so maybe that's sort of interesting regarding losses.
the major reason why video games are valuable is because of this concept of transfer learning. For instance, people who are good at chess understand when it's time to perform tactics, and when it's time to focus on positional development. Not just in chess, but also in life.
I have found it really, really useful to be able to reason about a relationship without getting egos involved too much. I can have a conversation with someone saying, “Hey, you made a commitment to ship this thing, and you did. That's awesome. That's a super big charge on the trust battery, but you’re actually late for every meeting. Even though that's relatively minor—like it decreases 0.1% on your battery—you should fix that.”
It plays a role like that. That said, it's not useful to talk about trust as a binary thing. People are quick to say, “You don't trust me!” And it's actually more, “Well, no, I trust you to a certain level, but you would like more trust; you want trust at a completely different level.”
if your cell phone is 80% charged, you're not worried about finding a charger. But when your phone in your pocket goes into low battery mode, you're thinking about your phone a lot. What people want to do in a company is get to the 80% or 100% level in the area that they run. You gain full autonomy this way. It’s a process that cannot be given to people by title or something like that.
The reason why it was the best thing for me is because it's almost the perfect counterfactual to how you should run a company. I honestly think that, you know, a coin flip has a batting average of 50%. If you just do the perfect opposite of literally everything about that place, you would probably clock in at 60 to 70% of getting everything right, which would mean you would outperform probably 90% of all companies in the world.
Among other things, almost every incentive system was just wrong. For instance, there was no way you would get a promotion or recognition if you weren't dressed in a suit or if you didn’t use slides in a particular way that resembled the legal profession.
It's infantilization because you literally have a policy about how to dress. If you have a policy on how to dress, that means you don't trust people to dress. It was a pretty stark experience.
We are building hopefully amazing software for absolutely amazing people, like people who are unbelievably brave and really adaptable. Society tries to talk people out of this, like no one wants other people to be successful building companies. Silicon Valley might have gotten to a level of enlightenment where company building is actually encouraged, but the rest of the world isn’t like this.
The learning curve of being a great executive is a lot less like learning the guitar, and a lot more like skydiving. It’s the kind of thing you should not do without an instructor. A coach is probably one of the highest returns on investment anyone can do with their attention. An hour spent with a coach has a 10x, 50x, 100x potential return on time spent.
Our strategy was to hire as many high potential people as we could and have them get to their potential much faster than they actually imagined was possible. Personal growth has no real speed limit. It's more dependent on how often a student is ready, and that often depends on the environment and the norms of a culture around the student. For instance, how often is the teacher appearing when the student is ready? If you can line this up at a fairly high hit rate, then people can go through nearly ten years of career development within a single calendar year. I know the 10x thing is overplayed now, but I have absolutely seen it.
Hey, the reason why you've got this job is not because of everything you know, but because you seem like the kind of person who can figure it out when you need to know something.” That's very basic but also very liberating.
One thing that really makes it work is that we are just extremely different. Almost the only overlap we have is in how much we care about the mission of this company. Outside of that, his skill set is extremely different; his input is extremely different; his life experience is very different. It's very intuitive for us when to go with one of our ideas because this is what a relationship with a 100% trust battery looks like.
I had the source code for Linux, I signed up for the Linux kernel mailing list, and I listened to how they talked about computer architecture. I then spent all my time trying to figure out what these terms meant.
The meaningful thing about this story is that it points at a fallacy. The other important thing is it implies that people in groups end up really cancelling each other's good parts and exposing one another's downsides.
why are technical founders overperforming the market right now? I don't actually think it's because they're technical. I think it's because of a very specific childhood experience that a lot of the people running technology companies have had. Most of us grew up in a world which we knew would change significantly because it was really badly designed given what we knew about the potential coming soon. And this potential coming soon was the march of computers and digitalization. I think that a lot of us, including myself, have leveraged this insight into significant enterprise value.
Norman gave permission to really hate the door instead of hating yourself when you push it instead of pulling it. That is not your fault. No human has ever been at fault for pushing instead of pulling. That has always been the fault of the people who designed the door.
People who learn how to think about how to do things in their environment better, and to understand that the objects in their everyday life have not been designed or created by people who are smarter than they are—they are the people who will become entrepreneurs.

Isn't Kushner and Bannon fighting or is this some WWE button pushing acting/hyped up by the media thing? I don't know all the details. BTW, since you seem to have a lot of support for trump has there been anything you wish he can improve on or anything that he did that you didn't quite approve of but either don't care/par for the course?
I honestly haven’t paid muchattention to the Kushner/Bannon thing; this kind of internal cabinetpower-play personality clash is the kind of super in-depthpsychoanalysis bullshit I’ve never been good at - and, I havealways found prone to being twisted by the biases of those doing theanalysis, and that was before the current mediapersonalities that do it went totally apeshit.
However, this:
>has there been anything you wish he can improve on or anythingthat he did that you didn't quite approve of but either don'tcare/par for the course?
YEAH I GOT SOME SHIT TO SAY ABOUT THIS.
For starters, I feel a deep, deep, deep ambivalencetowards the Trump administration’s “war on global warming.”I can see their reasons for it, but Ireally, really don’t think their approach is going to accomplishanything. Furthermore, I’m deeply suspicious of the motives behindit - it might be entirely due to The Decent Reason, but I doubt it, because there’s a very powerful, widespreadsentiment of “global warming denial” in the right wing thatis nothing but knee-jerk reactionary bullshit; where they reject theentire idea just because THE OTHER SIDE is pushing it. This is theexact kind of shit conservatives detest and loathe when used by theleft wing, and yet they happily employ it themselves. At bestthey’re indulging in the same kind of hypocritical blind tribalismthat defines the left, and at worst they’re actively lettingthe opposition frame the debate in stark terms of opposition; a falsedichotomy that only serves their goals. In short, conservativesreally need to unfuck themselves on this issue.
Trufax: Once Upon A Time, I was aglobal warming skeptic - and contrarianism was a significantmotivator for me. I had learned by that time never to give an inch onanything ~THE LEFT~ supported; to challenge every precept they putforth, because so often even the very foundations of their arguments- and thus the frame defining the entire scope of the debate - wereartificial and false. Under this paradigm of “challengeeverything,” my objections were three-fold:
A. I doubted that Global Warming washappening.
B. IF it was happening, I doubted thatit was anthropogenic (caused by human activity.)
C. If it was both happening andanthropogenic, I doubted that any left-wing policies would dojack shit to address the dire consequences they predicted.
Atthe time - ten years ago, or so - there were Science Reasons to fuelthis doubt. The data was questionable, the models, imperfect, and the question ofpoliticized bias up in the air. There were two main camps ofscientists who openly questioned global warming. The first weregeologists and geophysicists who contested the validity of citingvarious physical phenomena as proof of anthropogenic global warming,(such as melting ice sheet, etc.) when it happened to involve theirgeographic area of study. The second were physicists/geophysicistswho questioned the math behind it, especially the energy balanceequations - most famous of them,IvarGiaever, winnerof a Nobel prize for physics, who famously said“Iam a skeptic…Global warming has become a new religion.”Saidquote comes out of the U.S. Senate Environment And Public WorksCommittee's minority report, which had over 650 actual honest-to-godscientists on record expressing actual, serious doubts vis a visglobal warming. Thenthere was some theories being kicked around that held global warmingto be happening, but not from anthropogenic sources - the mostconvincing (to me) at the time was the possibility of stellar cycles.A lot of levelheaded scientists wondered if we were coming out of aMaunderMinimum,a 60-70 odd year “super-cycle” in solar activity that might beconnected to the “LittleIce Age.”This struck me as the most likely alternate explanation simplybecause of the limited amount of historical data available; it wasquite likely our current observations on global warming just didn'thave a big enough sample size,so we were over-emphasizing the significance of the data bump. Inshort, I had plenty of reason to scoff at the idea of “scientificconsensus” the left constantly invoked.
Thenthe scientists went and didmore scienceto answerthese objections. You know, like they're supposed to. They diddue diligence, they replicated results, they refined models, and inthe end presented a convincing argument - global warming ishappening, and it iscausedby human activity.
However, that still leaves point C: namely, left-wing policies aren't going todo shit to stop it. Justconsider this graph:
Tumblr media
Guesswhich nations didn't even have emissions targets set for them?Developing ones, including China, India, Brazil, South Africa, etc.Yes, China. Slowclap. Andyet, the Kyoto protocol - which set an average target of about 5% CO2emissions for most Western nations - was talked up as the greatmoral crusade of our time, asif a measly 5% reduction was going to do jack shit with China pumpingout enough pollution to create a semi-permanent browncloud visible from fucking space.
Thenecessity of these pissweak efforts are justified with the mostoverblown Chicken-Little sky-is-falling bullshit you can conceive of.From Al Gore's theatrically released power-point presentation thatwept for “drowning polar bears” and predicted global catastrophein ten years (complete with a doomsday clock) to media reports ofManhattandrowning by 2015, the constant flow of emotional fearmongeringbullshithasbeen constant, hysterical, and loud. They'vebeen promising us that the end is nigh for twenty-fivefucking years andyet the apocalypse keeps taking a rain-check. The ObamaAdministration's EPA published atypical example:
If climate change goes unaddressed, the report predicts morethan 2,000 storm-mangled bridges, 57,000 deaths from poor air qualityand 12,000 fatalities from extreme temperature between now and theyear 2100... the report argues that the U.S. will save 7.9 millionacres from wildfire, and prevent more than $10 billion in damage toMidwestern farming counties and coastal communities alike.
The reportitself (which you can download in its entirety) has some realgiggles, such as solemnly including damage to coastal properties -you know, those houses that rich morons build on literalfucking sandbars - I'm sorry, I meant “barrier islands” - andact surprised when thishappens. Oh, and the US taxpayer picks up the tab, too. And of course the seas willswallow the land, the rivers will flood, a plague of kekking frogswill go around slaying first-born trust fund inheritors, etc. But thereally notable thing is the more prosaic things in the report; thesimpler predictions of general economic impacts caused by highertemperatures and the resulting long-term weather patterns andecosystem shifts. These are the things that'd actually change life aswe know it in the long term... but MSNBC's story went straight todemolished bridges and body counts. If it bleeds, it leads.
It'snot just the media filter pushing the hype, though it helps - it's adeliberate debate strategy. In formal policy debate, the“affirmative” team argues for a plan of action, and vindicates itby establishing 1. there's a problem, and that 2. Bad Things happenif the problem's not addressed by their plan. The “negative” teamargues that the plan is bad, because implementing the plan will alsolead to Bad Things.Ergo, victory often goes to whomever's predicted Bad Things are theworst. Thisis known as “impacts outweigh,” i.e. my impacts are worse, therefore avoiding them is more important- hundreds dead in aheat wave is preferable to thousands dead in a war, for instance. Theinevitable heaver-impacts arms-race naturally means that almost every“disadvantage” (negative consequence) in policy debate is GlobalThermonuclear War. Everysingle one.
Thisis precisely why greenies wholeheartedly parrot these lurid doomsdayscenarios with the fervor of religious nuts promising that Armageddonis nigh: the impacts outweigh. The warming mitigation policies theychampion come at real and serious costs to the economy, standards ofliving and ultimately people's lives - so theirimpactsmust outweigh that to hold any water. Thetheocratic tones don't end there, as Megan McArdle of Bloombergpoints out in her excellentarticle on how alarmism poisons the global-warming debate:
The arguments about global warming too often sound more liketheology than science. Oh, the word “science” getsthrown around a great deal, but it's cited as a sacred authority, nota fallible process that staggers only awkwardly and unevenly towardthe truth, with frequent lurches in the wrong direction. Icannot count the number of times someone has told me that theybelieve in “the science,” as if that were the name of someomniscient god who had delivered us final answers written in stone. For those people, there can be only two categories in the debate:believers and unbelievers. Apostles and heretics.
In short, the politics of global warming have fuck-all to dowith the actual science most of the time. Scientistsaren't infallible, andthere is some complicity but for the most part thisisn't even the scientists fault. They'renowhere near“controllingthe narrative.” Becausethe politicians and the greenies are speaking for them, theconservative knee-jerk reaction is to throw the baby out with thebathwater and ignore allthescience and everypossibleconclusion as politically tainted; the result of collusion, conspiracy and cherry-picking to serve an agenda. This is theattitude Trump's administration is taking towards it, and whilethey're not wrong to assume that the existing science data on allthose government websites - and the still-serving employees that madethem - definitely have an agenda, justblanking the pages is the wrong approach. Globalwarming isactually happening, andit is actuallycausing problems, andwe will haveto find solutions for it - and since any conservative will agree thatthe left wing's solutions will cripple the economy and do fuck-all toactually stop warming, those solutions had damn well better be ours.
Theglobal warming debate is not about empirical proofs and causes, butabout consequences and mitigation policies. Asthis briefsearch on Slashdot shows, people are finallystarting to really talkabout geoengineering - active mitigation approaches - on a regularbasis, and many are starting to re-think the benefits of nuclearpower, which conservatives have historically championed as reliable,CO2-free baseline load generation. Climate science data will be vitalin pushing these initiatives, both in the horrifically complex andhigh-stakes considerations we must work through thoroughly beforeattempting geoengineering, and in making the economic case fornuclear power. Theadministration's current approach to “The Science” treats it asinnately hostile; already a permanent possession of the Enemy Camp, when it's anything but.More than playing intothe left wing's hands, it's actively ceding them ground without afight, which is ludicrous. Even if the intent is to “nuke andpave,” blanking all the climate data pending a full review andre-write by a new, more conservative bureaucratic science staff, it'sstill a poor way to do it. The resistance seen from the EPA and othergovernment climate-science related agencies has notbeen the blatantinsubordination and borderline treasonous defiance of lawfulauthority displayed by Swamp Thing bureaucrats in other agencies. It's stuff like tweeting about unclassified, non-security relatedclimate science data and appealing to public opinion - rather tamestuff.
Trumpisn't a very conservative conservative on most any of theconservative “social issues,” which means he's either entirelysidestepped or paid mere lip service to a lotof the Usual Suspectswhen it comes to the usual tribal-savage litmus tests (abortion, etc.) Unfortunately climate change isn't one of them, as far as hisadministration goes. The left wing's been allowed to defile climatescience by using it as a shield for their politics. The naturalreaction is to punt that political football back, but that's stillletting the left wing define the terms of the debate. It's badstrategy, ineffective politics and it all leads to ineffectualpolicy.
