wilbur always found enjoyment in making you happy, in doing things that would bring a smile to your face or make you laugh and giggle. he loved to be your sun, when all you were surrounded by was darkness.

he's never been fond of holidays if he's honest. he didn't like dressing up for Halloween, and as a guy in his mid-late 20s, he didn't particularly care for the party side of halloween either. when it came to Christmas, it only seemed to remind him how lonely he was. or had been. before he met you, christmas was spent inside, alone with alcohol to numb the loneliness.

but now, with you, he has every reason to celebrate it. christmas decor goes up november 1st, Christmas cookies get made the day after and he already has a list of gifts he plans on getting for you and all of your shared friends. he has plans of activities, and small outings to go on. you go ice skating together, where he holds you to his side and keeps you from falling. he takes you out to get a christmas tree together, bringing it home and setting it up in the corner of the den.

he'll stand on his toes to hang up the garlands, spending hours outside hanging up christmas lights on the porch (you tell him it's not worth the cold he'll endure, but he insists on doing it without you peeking all so it's a surprise). he loves doing things for you, and holding you and keeping you warm during the cold nights. he'll make you tea or cocoa and hold you between his legs as you both watch a christmas movie.

you show him all your favorites, although, elf is his all time favorite. he finds it bizarre and funny at the same time. how silly it is, and campy it feels. he'll rub your stomach and kiss your cheek, holding you close to his chest.

if he's honest, part of why he does all of these things is to help you, to heal you and to make christmas fun for big you and little you (because let's be honest, he does everything he can to bring a smile to your face both big and little).

lately, though, he's wanted to focus more on at home, quiet christmasy adventures. things that you would feel comfortable doing when you're regressed, which meant quiet and cuddly activities that meant being cooped up inside.

he'd seen the whole boo basket trend, and thought it was a neat idea but wanted to have his own twist on it (prior to deciding, he also saw the burr basket posts but those fizzled out before he really got a good idea of what he had planned). he sat down at his desk to list a few stores he'd stop by and what items he planned to get from each one.

the local bookstore was sure to have a santa book, and maybe even a few jellycats (you eyed them all the time, and he almost always sneakily bought the mini ones to hide around the house). after the bookshop, he'd head to another shop, one that he's sure would have a basket and maybe a blanket, some candy and instant cocoa, amongst other things.

once his list was completed, he hurried down the stairs to where you were cooped up in the corner of the couch, wrapped up in one of his blankets with your stuffed bunny held against your chest. you'd been regressed for a few hours now, and needed quiet time so he set you up in the living room awhile ago, your favorite cartoon playing on the TV.

he sat beside you, pulling you into his side as he kisses your cheek and temple. he rubs your arm as he smiles down at you, "hello, baby, you ok?" he whispers as you whine and crawl into his arms, sitting in his lap.

he chuckles softly, nuzzling his nose against your hair as your hands grip onto his shirt. he pulls back to get a look at your face, hand on the side of your head as he pushes hair out of your face.

"love," his voice is a bit more firm, "are you okay?" you shrug as a response, soft frown held on your lips as he sighs and pulls you closer. he presses kisses to the top of your head, running his fingers through your hair as his other hand rubs your back.

he holds you for a while, the TV playing as background noise more or less as he coos and whispers a soft lullaby to soothe you a bit. when your grip on his shirt loosens, and your breathing steadies out, he pulls back to look you in the eye again.

"I've gotta go out for a bit, do you want to go stay with grace or wilma?" he whispers softly, hands on your lower back as he gets you to sit up a bit more.

you shrug, eyes stuck on the wall behind him as you zone out. he rubs your back, bringing your attention to him again, "okay," you mumble, dropping your head to your shoulder.

he kisses the shell of your ear, recognizing that you're most likely nonverbal or at least close to it. he nuzzles his nose against your cheek in a light manner, tickling you. you giggle softly, tensing up before relaxing in his hold when he kisses your temple.

"what if... I called over wilma to keep an eye on you, mm? orrrr maybe joe? ash? mark?" he smirks, pressing a few kisses to your cheek.

"ummm.. mark!" you giggle softly, smiling wide and happy at the thought of getting to see Mark again. you have a few drawings for him, as well!

"mark? okay, well can you give Daddy a few minutes while I call him, yeah?"

you nod softly, scooting out of his lap and settling in front of the TV as you start to play with your stuffies. wilbur sits up, walking over to the foyer as he calls mark, listening as it rings.

mark picks up, "hey, mate! what's up?" his voice is bright and chirpy, always happy.

"hey, I've got a favor to ask," wilbur starts, and you perk up. you sit up, leaning over the back edge of the couch, looking over at him and smiling.

Wilbur smiles over at you, chuckling before he continues, "I need to head into town for a bit and I was wondering if you'd come over and look after y/n for a bit? they're little right now and I just don't want to leave them alone but I can't take them either," Wilbur sighs, pacing a slight bit as he awaits and answer from mark.

you don't bother to listen to the rest, slinking to the corner of the couch and curling up happily. he walks over a moment later, sitting beside you and rubbing your side and arm.

"hey lovebug," wilbur coos, you lift your head and smile sleepily at him. he pulls you up into his lap, holding you close.

"hi, dada," you whisper, head rested on his shoulder as he rubs your back softly, free hand playing with your hair.

"mark will be here soon, yeah?" he smiles sweetly, rubbing your upper arms as he pulls back to look at you.

he holds you close to him, humming a soft tune as you let the time pass quietly. mark soon rings the doorbell and wilbur greets him before giving him a way too detailed run down, as if he'd never been your sitter before. then, wilbur finally leaves.

he hurries out to the car, heading into town. he had the list pulled up on his phone, ready to have things marked off. he started with the book shop, sifting through the various christmas children books and collecting a few in his arms, checking out and walking next door to the children's shops.

he spends the rest of the next two hours, shopping and gathering things of all kinds. your favorite candies, a blanket, a stuffie or two, books, crayons, etc etc. anything that could make you feel better. and so, after he puts everything in the trunk, he gathers it all up into the basket, making it look all pretty before he tucks it into the passengers seat, making his way home.

while wilbur is driving home, you and Mark are set up on the kitchen floor. he made a little sensory box for you, one that he brought from home. youre playing with the toys, making the dinos fly as mark watches you and cheers you on, making you giggle with every question he has.

"what's this dinos name, little one?" mark coos, holding a blue dino up to you.

you giggle softly, taking the dino and placing it on the top of his head, making it jump around before taking it back and putting it in the box, “bluey,” you hum.

“oh, bluey? that’s a nice name, hm?” you nod at mark’s question, quietly playing in the box that holds sand and rice and an assortment of dino toys.

“when’s daddy gettin home?” you mumble quietly, eyes cast down on the dinos you’re playing with.

mark hums, thinking for a moment before he answers, “soon, hun, promise.”

soon didnt come soon enough for you, waiting not so patiently for wilbur to come home. once you hear the door click open, you jump up and hurry to the door, slinging yourself into his chest. you hug him close, babbling incoherently to him as he hugs you back.

"hey, baby, you okay? you miss me?" he croons, pulling you closer against his chest, his arms wrapped around you. you nod, giggling happily.

"missed you, dada!" you squeal as he moves to pick you up, holding you on his hip as mark cleans up in the kitchen.

"I missed you too baby! how about you settle down here, mkay?" he sets you down on the couch, tucking a blanket over you as he moves into the kitchen.

"were they okay?" wilbur kneels down to help clean up the dino toys and what other things get taken out of the box.

mark smiles and nods, "of course! they missed you though, alot."

wilbur hums, smiling to himself at the thought as he and mark bid goodbyes, mark soon leaving through the front door. you peak up over the back of the couch, arms folded and chin resting atop of them.

he chuckles, walking over to you and kissing your forehead, brushing hair out of your face gently, "hi love, I'm gonna go get something, okay? be a good little love while I'm gone. I'll be right back," he places a lingering kiss to your forehead before he turns to leave out the door. you stay there, watching the door like a puppy. he steps back in a few minutes later, a basket covered with his jacket now clad in his arms.

"close your eyes, bunbun," he smiles widely, and you do as told, giggling softly as you shut your eyes. you feel him sitting down next to you and something wicker being placed in your lap.

"open, love," he smiles as you, watching as you excitedly giggle and look up at him.

“all for me?” you whisper in disbelief, eyes wide with joy as you hold the sides of the basket, waiting for the go ahead.

“mhm, just for you, baby. go on, open it. it’s for our evening,” he smiles a bit softer, hand reaching behind your head to rub your hair as he watches you excitedly unwrap it all. your eyes widening with each thing, giggling and squealing happily with each little gift. once it’s all open, you crawl into his lap and wrap your arms around his neck, settling in for a hug.

“thank you, daddy!” you giggle softly, nuzzling your face into his neck as wilbur hugs you close.

“did you like it?” he hums, kissing your temple and cheek as he guides you back so he can look down at your face.

you nod eagerly, “all of it! every bit!” you reach over for the little bunny stuffie he grabbed for you and you show it to him, “it looks like you dada!”

he chuckles, rubbing your cheek and nodding, “oh it does, doesn’t it?” he takes it into his hand, waving it a bit at you as you giggle.

“yeah! ‘s you, dada!”

“well that’s a high compliment, mm?” you nod softly at his words as he hands the bunny back to you, pulling you into his lap as he rubs his thumbs over your soft cheeks, “how does a christmas movie with popcorn and candy and cuddles sound, mm?” his lips curl up in a coy smile, eyes bright with love for you.

you nod in agreement, resting your head on his shoulder as your hands rest on his sides, “mmhm, please?”

he nods, mumbling a quick okay as he kisses your cheek and sets you aside on the couch, “i’m gonna go get stuff from the kitchen, ok? you stay here and rest,” you nod, rubbing your eyes sleepily as you curl up on your side.

he hurries into the kitchen, starting some popcorn as he fills your favorite sippy with some juice, setting that aside as he pours the popcorn in a bowl. he sits beside you, popcorn on the coffee table as he hands you your sippy cup. you hold it, leaning against his side as he sets up a movie, cuddling close with you as you both quietly watch the movie together.

the rest of the evening is spent cuddled up with a christmas movie and candy, no need to talk or chat, and that’s the best part.

Dot is AWESOME deuteragonist and even with being created as Buddy's supporting character she's *equal*. She's not "plain girl for male protagonist" type of deal

Abby Lambert is so good. People barely talk about her bc she's more interesting in TIOL and it's Joey book but i ADORE her even with little time in books that she has

In vanilla Bendy games i really love Twisted Alice/Susie Campbell but i should note that she deserved more focus (only in my opinion)

Audrey is good enough (would appreciate better writing at places but yk). I'm biased because i have hyperfix on her lol. Idk i love her little character moments and Erin did great job at changing tones when it was needed. If Adrienne got her even as side character in some book, she'd greatly benefit from it.

Allison Angel is more enjoyable in DR (to me) but she's more developed in fanon

Allison Pendle on the other hand. . . Erm. I wish she was more than Alice's second VA if you get me

all the girls in the books are fantastic and are genuinely such charming characters. they're well written CHARACTERS and i feel like sometimes people forget that writing a women is writing a PERSON but Kress never really does that and i appreciate her so much for it.

i need to appreciate Abby more i love her dearly i just don't think about her much. she's so good, i wish we got more of her but i get that it's Joey's book.

MALICE/SUSIE HAS SO MUCH POTENTIAL AND SHE DESERVES BETTER WRITING. i love her so much but gosh her writing could be better. especially in batdr like queen im so glad you're here but what ARE you doing here. can we get more of your character struggles, a little insight into how thats going maybe?? and yeah the hating another woman cause she was fired is a bit touch and go but i feel like with the right writers they could make it work. they unfortunately do not seem like theyre trying to do that

i do love Audrey i just have problems with some of the batdr writing. like how she kinda just goes along with whatever opinion she needs to have to move the plot along and at times i was like WHY ARE YOU SIDING WITH HIM/DOING THIS but thats not her fault. she has her good character moments and yeah Erin did a fantastic job voicing her. and she would REALLY benefit from being written by Kress, you're right. a lot of the characters would (cough susie cough)

in FTB though i really REALLY liked her characterization, with how she was tired of being expected to be the entertainment when she's a guest. it felt realistic, and makes sense with what little else we know about her. I need more private moments with her, ones where she isnt putting up a mask to perform, because only then we'll see what she's really like. and shes SO sweet with Rose, i really adore thar scene in general.

BUT YEAH WOMEN IN BENDY MY BELOVED. I think a lot of it is that most of them come from the books, and Adrienne is REALLY GOOD AT WRITING COMPELLING CHARACTERS. everyone she got to write for got an improvement in their characterization, not just the women. some of the male characters desperately needed it. anyways put more well written ladies in the games challenge

Ooo, head hopping from our omniscient narrator. Now THAT I did expect. Been a while since I read this style last (Dickens maybe?)

So far I am finding the translation legible but not pretty or enjoyable to read. Just kinda there. A bit brutal... or something?

Also I’m glad i watched some of The Untamed its much easier to follow this story having watched bits of that one. 

The use of American colloquialisms from like the 1980s, “flipping out” for example, is both amusing and highly distracting.

Too many names and sects. (But I knew that going in.) 

I admit it as soon as the romance element hits and our leads are on page together I’m interested. But there isn’t enough of that.

Chapter 13 and now the history of the relationship?

I’m really not interested in dismembered bodies, zombies, ghost hunting, ghost raising, exorcism, bodies inside walls, ancestral tombs, or anything along these lines. And I am really really not interested in any parts of the story where the two leads are not together. So I’m skipping a lot.

This book is what 600k, I suspect I am moving rather rapidly through about 500k of that. 

I love the bit in the city where WuXian is just all “well he can take care of himself I’m going to look after the kids.” And WangJi makes his instrument do a non-verbal murmur of acknowledgment. Very funny.

The dark humor is funnier than I expected too. A lot of dismemberment bits remind me of...

I find the side stories of other people’s lives extremely boring and distracting. Like I am being forced to read a short story in the middle of a novel. 

Honestly this book is like having a conversation with a drunk person. NO it’s like having a conversation with a STONED person. Ramble ramble ramble, eats something bad, says soemthing insightful, recites something poetic, talks about past lives, parents, history, rambles some more. Except there’s all the blood and gore. So maybe it’s like having a conversations with stoned Hannibal. Either Hannibal. 

Coul we just STAY ON TARGET. (The Target being WangJi “manly member” inside WuXian.) 

I love the way WuXian’s magic adores WangJi even as he refuses to notice his own affection for the boy.

Look they don’t need to kill the walking dead, just make them try to follow the fucking names in this book. 

I am finding the homeric jumping about on the timeline absolutely maddening.  At least use the different names at different times. Give me some kind of clue. I wonder of the official translation into English will have some kind of time stamping/framing device. 

Still, if marketed properly, I can actually see this being hugely successful in the North American market.

Oh great another chunk of backstory for a character who is already dead or about to be.

80% into this and it’s the infamous bath scene at last. I heard about this. 

It’s an interesting first sex scene. Not well written. Not as bad as I was expecting either.

Wow a full on confession scene. I was really not expecting that. I also wasn’t expecting how public they are about everything. 

I did enjoy the culmination sex scene. Quite kinky. And I like that it’s consistently WuXian who always starts everything. Was in worth 570k to get here? 

Eh... no?

Good ending. Much better than the series. 

And that’s it. 

Thoughts? 

Look it read like fanfic, and I don’t really go for that style (I struggle to ID the narrative structure, story arc, or authorial intent). The romance was very much standard beats, tropes, and pretty unsophisticated. It’s fine I don’t mind that actually. Romance should be somewhat predictable, that’s why it’s comforting. I liked the characters fine, the plot was complex to the point of confusion (but that’s probubly my fault) and the horror was... well there was a lot of slashy slashy body body dead DEAD, wasn’t there? 

I’m glad I read it because of this corner of fandom I exist in, but I’m not sure I would necessarily recommend it as a book. Don’t listen to me, though, I intensely dislike most epic fantasy (Game of Thrones can bite my arse) and always have, this may be very Chinese and very cultivation but it’s still also very much epic. I also strongly dislike horror too so, yay now, naught but the gay bits were really for me. 

Honestly making me suffer through 500,000 words and 500,000 corpses for those few moments of gay feels very Chinese BL of it. 

Final summation: 

I liked it when they were kissing but there were too many non-kissing people wafting about, not to mention non-sexy body parts piling up. 

Sorry I can’t share your love @renafire and @percida18​ but my taste in literature is very much as questionable as my taste in television.

lae'zel: qilyrr enjoys lae'zel's zeal and bloodthirstiness and appreciates that she isn't judgmental of her less moral actions. they get along pretty well but the two are very very different and lae'zel is ultimately not someone qilyrr is that interested in becoming close to.

shadowheart: they get along well. from the start qilyrr doesn't care about shadowheart worshipping shar and doesn't probe about her mission, as long as neither would impact qilyrr. qilyrr thinks shadowheart's seriousness is funny and out of everyone, her morality and qilyrr's morality seems to line up the most. i think qilyrr considers her a friend.

gale: qilyrr finds gale to be charming and likes his intelligence and ambition re: magic. but she also thinks he's "too nice" and easy to manipulate. ironically he is one of the companions she's least manipulative towards, mainly bc gale is usually up for fucking around and finding out, which qilyrr loves to do.

wyll: qilyrr thinks wyll's idealism (aka wanting to go out of his way to help and empower people) is kind of quaint, although she does connect with him over their shared willingness to literally make deals with the devil. even if she and wyll's goals and motivations in making those deals differ a bit.

karlach: i don't think qilyrr fully knows what to make of karlach, as it's difficult for her to dismiss karlach's idealism as naive when karlach's had the life she's had. and while they get along great in some ways, karlach's belief in prioritizing helping others and qilyrr's belief in prioritizing helping herself is kind of a sticking point between them.

halsin: qilyrr very much stumbled into helping halsin out. she declined helping the grove until she had her own reasons to get rid of minthara and co. and she similarly had her own reasons for lifting the shadow curse. but halsin is a great asset so qilyrr has decided to keep in his good books. she likes him fine, but certainly less than he likes her.

jaheira: qilyrr likes jaheira and respects her experience and talent. her work with the harpers and sharp personality make her harder for qilyrr to manipulate but it also makes her more enjoyable company. so qilyrr is a bit intimidated, honestly.

astarion: qilyrr's favorite person in the group without a doubt. they have very similar outlooks and ways of dealing with people, although qilyrr is usually less mean spirited than astarion (she doesn't have a problem with that behavior in him tho). she finds him entertaining and in the confusion/fear of the brain tadpoles, i think he was comfortingly familiar (being similar to herself and the ppl she's usually acquainted with). they are constantly bullshitting and sweet-little-lies-ing each other but by act 3 they know this and it's their love language 💀

after she caught him trying to bite her, qilyrr was intrigued and thats how their whole thing started. she knew he was purposely seducing her but she liked that aspect - she is more comfortable with lies and manipulations than true sincerity because lies and manipulations are her life. so the real surprise came when 1) she developed feelings and 2) found out he did too. them both being kind of new in the ways of genuine connection, rather than just seduction and obfuscation, further connects them. because they can understand each other uniquely in that regard (if not identically, of course).

Oh nooo! I had the same problem with my nails breaking but they finally started growing out, tho I don't like having them too long anymore.

I've been dancing ballet for about 8 years now but I recently also got into swing, whuch if you don't know are a group of vintage dances originating from the 20s onwards. I absolutelly love it, they take you into a completely different world and the community is so nice. Definitelly very different from ballet, but I still love ballet, tho I've been slowly lessening the intensity at which I do it.

Your walks sound so cute:) Maybe I should take a page from your book and install pokemon go to motivate me hehe. I definitelly don't go out enough, oopsie. I'm not sure I would say running will become a habit, but I like that I'm proving to myself that I can do it and that it can be enjoyable. And it's so cool you liftt, I have had urges to start but I end up being a bit scared of the new situation.

Also for the question part of this ask: do you ever listen to music during sex? I remembered this one from the list of asks you rebloged. I haven't ever given it thought and then once I did I could not think of what would be something to listen while. Hopefully the ask isn't too invasive, I'm judt curious but of course don't feel like you have to answer it.

Pokemon go for sure was a big motivator for me to go outside more It sounds silly, but a few months ago I went through a bad depressive episode and rarely left the house, but for some reason trying to find new pokemon, collect cute ones and looking for pokestops really helped with going outside more It also started with just tiny 10-15 minute walks, but now I can be gone for over an hour fighting in gyms and catching pokemons It still feels silly to explain to people a game made me walk more, but you know, if it's silly but it works, it's not really that silly I get that! It doesn't have to be or become a habit, but it's great that you have proved that to yourself, so proud of you :) Lifting was for sure scary in the beginning, just the gym, the people, the using weights and machines I still get nervous from time to time but I happen to train at a nice gym with superfriendly employees, I've even had the courage to ask for help a couple times and they were so nice about it

Oohh a question! I do yeah, not always but having music on while having sex or doing naughty things can be very nice or useful! I actually have a sex playlist lmao, although I do need to go through it sometime and remove some songs But it can be nice when you are not home alone to reduce the chance of other people hearing you, it can help set the mood if you have the right music or be useful when you are doing impact play Impact play can be quite loud so having some music can help muffle those sounds Also Daddy sometimes hits me to the beat of the music, which is very funny xD It wasn't an invasive ask at all! Don't worry 😊

Star rants about BL manga for a REAAAAALY long time

Lmao so I go to this specific book store to by M rated manga and apparently the cashier recognizes me by my face lmao.

I made a joke about it like, a month or so ago that "Oh yeah I'm probs the weirdo who buys BL porno manga"

And now I'm unsure if that's even a joke anymore.

I like to buy BLs and gamble if their terrible. (Idk why it just became a habit. X'D)

There was one so bad it's an internal meme between me and my bro that "Well it wasn't as bad as Caste Heaven".

NOTHING. Is as bad as Caste Heaven my god. I literally threw them in the garbage. X'D I cope with how legit triggering it was with ~COMEDY~ don't read it unless you hate yourself. It is SO BAD. I'm not a pearl clutcher by any means but HOLY SHIT.

some desperate glory (emily tesh) - very underrated (so far), great debut sci-fi with a very well crafted MC. highly recommend if you're into space opera

hurdy gurdy (christopher wilson) - looked funny, was kinda funny, but contemporary references were a bit unsubtle. immediately gave to my dad after reading. it's a liberal dad kinda book

the doloriad (missouri williams) - I got #influenced by an instagram book account to read this because they said it was too gross for them. it was interesting and very poetic, but by talos did it need a paragraph break or two

tender is the flesh (agustina bazterrica) - subtle as a brick. didn't really like the way it was written but I'm never really sure if that's a valid criticism when something is translated

eileen (otessa moshfegh) - actually loved this. more gross woman protags pls

the mother tongue (bill bryson) - I had the original edition (library book) so some of it was a bit out of date but still interesting and fun to read

the terraformers (analee newitz) - worldbuilding was decent but man was this badly written. I ended up speedreading just to move onto another book and immediately donated it to the local free library shelf

hell bent (leigh bardugo) - very enjoyable, but I think it should have been hornier, actually, considering how much word count was spent on darlington's glowstick dick

on writing (stephen king) - genuinely great advice. my copy has about 1000 sticky tabs and notes in it now

system collapse (martha wells) - i ♥ murderbot forever and always

in ascension (martin macinnes) - this was so boring. rip to all the ppl who loved it but what was it saying, really, that couldn't have been said in a sub-5,000 word short

cursed bread (sophie mackintosh) - enjoyed, but I don't really remember much about it. probably because I read it in a crowded airport while waiting for a heavily delayed ryanair flight

camp zero (michelle min sterling) - didn't feel like it fully explored all the routes it should have, but the chapters written from the collective perspective of the researchers were interesting

klara and the sun (kazuo ishiguro) - oof ouch owie my feelings

the beauty (aliya whiteley) - technically a short story but I read it in book format. it was fun

shadow and bone (leigh bardugo) - if I'd read this when I was 12, you best believe I'd have spent my teenage years writing fanfiction about the darkling. as a 29 year old, wasn't really for me tho

the player of games (iain m banks) - talented, brilliant, incredible, amazing, showstopping, spectacular, never the same, totally unique, completely not ever been done before, unafraid to reference or not reference, put it in a blender, shit on it, vomit on it, eat it, give birth to it. red rising (pierce brown) - hated this tbh. the hunger games for redditors. darrow is a textbook mary-sue but ppl in the goodreads reviews don't seem ready to have that conversation

brutes (dizz tate) - do I know what was going on? no, but I really liked it, so well observed

So you have to compromise and get him to study in short bursts throughout the day to help him have a better chance of remembering anything ;-;

so you plan to hang out together and do something fun every week while having your study material on index cards in your back pockets

it's a literal study date.

she's just so sweet that being with her gives you the energy you need to write that essay all in one sitting instead of procrastinating like a normal person

even though she's still going to end up getting sleepy anyway later in the afternoon

You get most of your studying done at the beginning of your study date so it's not really a problem

you know she doesn't have a lot of money to be throwing around so you pay for dinner every night

It's usually takeout but sometimes you guys make your own dinner for fun!

it always turns out almost inedible and burned because neither of you were paying attention to the stove

don't let baku see it or he'll start screaming about how you need to try your best at everything so he can beat you fair and square and that includes cooking too

neither you nor uraraka can handle spicey food so you never eat what Bakugou cooks for the class

You grab a few bags of chips and some sushi and shut yourselves in your dorm to pull an all-nighter study session about once a month

it should make you tired but, again, studying with her is so enjoyable that you don't mind

u two enjoy each others company in studying so much that you sometimes read ahead in your textbooks just to be able to study more

overall, hanging out with her is just lighthearted and filled with giggles

and you just so happen to get all your homework done along the way

i started writing this after i almost died of boredom in my online calc class. my senioritis is already kicking in and it's still September (｡-ω-)

Ok I'm gonna comment more lil things under gifsets or smth but overall Heartstopper thoughts:

- that one article was so correct. Very enjoyable, made me wanna cry tears of joy but maybe that's just me bcs I'm so attached.

- The vibes were on par with the comic, like you can tell how much creative control Alice had. It was funny too, like I actually laughed (out loud #lol).

- Acting. Again, the article was right. You can tell 90% of the people there are first timers. To me, that wasn't a bad thing? It came off as endearing and teenage-like, some times tho the deliveries made the dialogue unatural but eh whatever I'll allow it bcs the characters are 15-16.

- They all embodied their parts pretty well? I felt like yes those are definitely my besties, no weird changes here. I do think they needed to be rounded out a bit more, even nick and charlie.

- Liked the way they focused on the side characters, and they all had at least one lil individual thing that didn't make ALL their conversations revolve around nick/charlie which I appreciate.

- Another thing that I loved in the comic is how good they all are at communication lmao. Obviously they are still teenagers and dumbasses but I like that they didn't sacrifice good rep of healthy communication for drama.

- Elle and Tao didn't get together right away. I liked it. It puts platonic love above romantic love (FOR NOW) and I think that's healthy for teenagers. You don't HAVE to get together, but if you do later that's cool too <3. (They were still my favourite couple tho ofc)

- And I liked how they had Elle call out the group for medling, like people gotta understand boundaries.

- soundtrack? Slapped. Olivia Colman as Nick's mom? Slapped. Very cute, very rewatchable, will be crying over this again soon.

tara and darcy moment was great so glad we got that

Things I didn't like?

- The Imogen thing. They needed more drama suuure but I would've rather had the classic "oh she kissed me it meant nothing to me tho" and get it over and done with.

- Liked the drawings except for the comic book panel thingys.

- Ngl I prefer the whole coming out during the Paris trip thing bcs how they find out is so silly and stupid but this was cute too <3.

Apart from that I didn't HATE anything really, I do hope we get a S2 bcs:

- teenage boy ED, (which was hinted at but it's blink and you miss it)

- Tara and Darcy, the whole not-so-nice environment at home thing, we didn't see that. Idk if that's a good or bad thing to change yet.

- Paris Trip ofc, I'll fund it myself if I have to idc.

- bestie Elle and Tao being the power couple they deserve to be

You obviously love Snape canonically in the book, but I've been wondering for a while, are there any things that you feel the author has failed in his characterization, or are there things you wish had been done differently? Because I like him how he is in the books, but some things don't sit well with me, or I prefer my personal headcanons. What are your thoughts?

one of the main things that where i think rowling failed with snape was with the presentation of his redemption arc. and i’m not necessarily sure that’s a failure of characterization or just plotting, but either way i think it’s a major contribution to why he’s viewed the way he is and why fandom has such a hard time with him. 

snape’s redemption arc isn’t actually even an arc that we see. i’ve talked about this before but in many ways, snape’s redemption is finished by the time we as readers even get confirmation that it existed. this is a problem for a couple of reasons, but the main one is that it’s difficult - especially for narratives built on a close third-person pov like hp - for readers to make that switch from villain to hero (or even anti-hero!) without some significant work and time put in. take zuko from atla - widely considered one of the best redemption arcs in children’s media - where we see every single step of his growth play out. and, of course, atla is not a limited pov like the series so that obviously changes how much we can view but the point still stands; by doing the sudden reveal, rowling rushes what should have been a spread-out process.

so when we get just like that background knowledge of snape’s sneaky redemption, it makes it feel less earned and it makes it more difficult for readers to parse especially since it comes in the midst of all these other heavy emotional scenes. i really love the prince’s tale bc i do think it tells us a lot about snape, but i think rowling did snape a disservice by basically making his redemption arc an exposition chapter... although, to be fair, considering how she laid out snape and harry’s relationship, i’m not sure how she could have fixed that.

i also think we really needed to see more of snape and lily in that chapter. i know most of it is them but considering that’s the ONLY knowledge we have of them as friends it makes it even more important to drive home there as much of their relationship as possible. and once again, this is kind of a plotting issue - rowling had snape give his memories in a way that’s more about pragmatism and explanation, so obviously snape was just going to choose memories that would tell harry what he needed to know and not like anything else that would just show his times with lily, right? but the problem becomes then that it makes it even more difficult for readers to get behind the idea that snape changed becase of lily because he have such a small glimpse of them together. if she wanted to make this a big, profound thing (which i think she does!) then those moments really had to have enough chemistry and charisma to really convince us that this was a lasting relationship for snape and for lily - and honestly i don’t think it manages that, esp since we have so few scenes of them together at hogwarts. look at the marauders - we have just as little information about them as friends in school but we see the relationship between sirius and remus and we can get a sense of their closeness because of the chemistry in that relationship. we really needed that for snape and lily’s interactions for it to carry that redemptive arc and it just... didn’t really happen. which is also why i think it’s easy for people to misinterpret their relationship in the way that they do.

i do fill in the blanks with snape a lot with my own headcanons and i do prefer those to anything rowling might try to put out (teetotaller!snape, for example, or queer!snape). but that’s less a dissatisfaction with what’s presented in the books and more just a way to fill in the gaps since we don’t know that much about his character.  i mean, obviously i wish he had been a little less mean to kids who didn’t really deserve it but in the narrative it’s really never clear how much of that is necessity for his cover and his own personal enjoyment - and i think that’s just part of the necessary risks and evils of close third-person, where it’s extremely difficult to parse motivations for anyone other than your pov character.

i guess one thing i never really got behind was snape’s way of speaking. i think he’s one of the funniest characters in the books (that snapback he makes to dumbledore after the big “you need to kill me” reveal always cracks me up) but a lot of his speech is almost antiquated in how flowery it is. i’ve reconciled that with myself as an adult reader by headcanoning that snape adopted that as a way out of the rough speech he might have had as a kid - tho tpt disproves that theory. as a kid i don’t think i really noticed as much but as an adult a lot of snape’s dialogue sounds... idk. weird. altho, tbf, a lot of hp is definitely clunkier when reading as an adult, esp as an adult who has spent a lot of time reading fiction for school and work. (that isn’t to say it’s bad writing! hp has some fucking stellar lines in it and great speeches and genuinely moving/funny bits that are really well-written.)

a lot of stuff fandom has found really ugly about snape (his pettiness, cruelty, emotionality esp when angry, and so on) are things that i actually find interesting and think make him a more realistic character. i don’t know that i find his characterization that suspect tbh - for me, what really frustrated me with snape in the books was the clumsy way he was often used plot-wise especially when it came to his reveal. i think rowling spent so long using him as a mystery plot-device (what is snape doing? is snape evil?) and shielding his motivations that when it came time to actually do the reveal it was just something that she couldn’t really execute with grace, which had the unfortunate side-effect of kind of undermining the way his narrative was received.

ok. thoughts on dgs now I've completed both 1 and 2. spoilers abound under the cut. but tl;dr I liked it a lot.

man, the thing really did feel like a great adventure huh? the game did an excellent job at conveying that sense of grandeur, along with the humour and melodrama one expects from the series. I can really only talk about it as the one conjoined unit though. while aa1-3 were a trilogy, I would argue they largely stood as entries on their own in a way I don't think the dgs duology can. I mentioned when I finished up dgs1 that I would've been disappointed if I'd had to wait for part 2 like the original japanese audience did, and my opinion on that has only strengthened. between the morse code message, and van zieks'... development, these are two parts of a whole.

but it is a very good whole imo, with its throughline of ryunosuke gaining confidence and finding what to believe in (the truth will set u free babey!). it matches well with the recurrent theme of ur idols being... not quite as u imagined. as is aa tradition, u have the complex web of family and legacy and forging ur own path, all balanced in a way that I really like. man, it's just... so well crafted.

obvs there are a few weird hiccups here and there, logic sometimes not clicking together (at least for me), and for that I do appreciate having the story mode option. I only used it... I think twice? once in the pawnshop case where I forgot I'd only shown one receipt to gregson and not both, and once in the teleportation case where I missed examining the book on sithe's desk (in my defence it has a really small hitbox compared to the desk that surrounds it!). but it saved me some frustration, so that's always nice.

the setting was definitely very enjoyable. I personally have a soft spot for seeing portrayals of my country by those outside the anglosphere, and this absolutely hit the spot for me. the scenery was an excellent balance of the familiar old london fare and ace attorney's brand of surrealism that just. yes. excellent. weirdly high number of blonds tho. but some of the behind the scenes content did explain it was to more clearly differentiate the britons from the japanese, and ok I can understand that.

but moving onto the characters themselves, bc BOY was this a fun cast! the animation team went OFF with these guys and I love them for it. except daley vigil; those awkward poses just kinda made him look more unfinished than he already did, dunno what happened with him.

there's just... so much little stuff I would be just reiterating from my liveblogging, but now I'm done there's other stuff I can sum up.

right off the bat, favourite character gina. she has stolen my heart along with everything else on my person. I'm proud of her for learning to open up and trust others, and imo she's one of the characters with the most dramatic arc. also, top notch character designs. excellently green. yes I am biased.

honorable mentions go to susato for being 100% the coolest person in this shebang, and kazuma for his total flippancy towards the whole assassin thing. for the ten years between asogi sr's death and the student exchange deal, the mikotoba residence must have been a sight to behold. and by that I mean a warzone.

but... argh I've put it off. I don't particularly like talking about van zieks, but I can't just ignore him since you know. discourse. ugh. he's the one character in this game whose dialogue I resorted to flipping through without really paying attention. there is only so many times I can watch him deride the japanese before it's just boring. like it's not like I'm even that annoyed by the insulting thing. I love prosecutors like blackquill and nahyuta who at least bother to be funny, but van zieks is just xenophobic and that's it. if I wanted that experience I could just pick up a copy of the spectator and not worry about missing key plot details if I skim.

and no he doesn't have a good reason to hate the japanese. hating a country bc someone from there killed a loved one of urs is already flimsy enough, but when u state ur ire is being drawn by how it was covered up BY UR OWN COUNTRY'S JUDICIARY? DUDE. but yes, he got to eat shit during the last case and I felt only schadenfreude at him having to face the fact that even the aforementioned 'a japanese guy murdered my brother' didn't hold up in court. get dunked on u idiot.

boy am I glad kazuma also got the limelight for that case so I could focus on him instead. bc there was actually some depth to that situation, with the fun eternal moral conundrum of "revenge: yay or nay?". I'm already seeing debate in the fandom of his actions and personally, I think he was pretty much exactly in the grey zone. this man is chaotic neutral through and through, and taking a governmental assassination contract and then just Not Doing It is incredibly funny actually. I'm very sorry he was unable to live out his dream of having a fun homoerotic detective adventure in london with his friend while doing the hitman equivalent of tax avoidance. enjoy whatever the FUCK one calls handing over the physical embodiment of your soul to your friend for safekeeping while you go your separate ways half a world apart. that's Romantic with a capital R, that.
