This save is still very much a work in progress. While most things appear to be complete (such as builds), there's still a lot to be done. So, keep that in mind. Also, I tried my best to playtest everything, but this is a HUGE save. So, it's possible I missed things. If I did, feel free to let me know!

I did use one piece of CC, but it is absolutely not required in order to download this save. It's the Modern Family Portrait by RAVASHEEN! Download only if you want some cute portraits of the families.

Regency Era Accessories Part 6: Charlotte Bonnets

Hi, Happy New Year! I made these bonnets back in April but have had issues but as of recently, I've fixed most of them. They're hat hairs, and I converted them from maya40 who was kind enough to send me some meshes she didn't release. I did change the mesh to make a few variants and changed textures aside from swatch 31 which was the original swatch.

You get 9 Charlotte Bonnet Hat Hairs for your married regency ladies of the upper crust. The plain version without roses or bows could work for the middle class and slightly below! These can even be worn by your old early Victorian widows who can't let the fashion of their youth go! Appropriate for the 1800s-1830s, but do as you please! There are 3 different types of bonnets, each with 3 different hairs. The hairs are just these ones, I believe I took the roses from this set? I'm not sure, I made these in April of 24'.

Found in the Hat category, 31 swatches, I think you need growing together for them to work, but I could be wrong because I did embed all external resources in s4s so it may vary.

These are all VERY HIGH POLY, ranging from 16k-28k. The ones with roses and bows have the most poly, so download them with caution. No, they can't be decimated more in blender without looking like a mess, I've tried.

KNOWN ISSUES: I unfortunately could not close the holes on the side of some versions of these, which is weird because I used the same base. The vertex paint is green in blender on all of the hats, so I'm unsure what went wrong, but I'll show you what I mean. It's not a noticeable issue. I also have upgraded to dx11 and batch fixed my cc, so if the texture looks weird for you in your game, you should update to dx11. I've already batch-fixed these with s4s. Don't forget to download the hair color file, it's needed or else you won't have any hair with your bonnets!

Here, you can see the small pieces of hair poking out from the bonnets. It's not that noticeable when playing your game.

Another thing, if you want these to look the same color in my game you need to get a lighting mod. This doesn't make your game lag, you need this if you don't want the bonnet to look a bluish gray color. I use bright base dark rooms. I also use gentle cas lighting, no this won't make your game lag either. It just helps with the weird blue color that EA naturally has for some reason. Without a lighting mod, the cap will look like this

"An ideal Sims game would have Sims 2's gameplay mechanics, Sims 3's open world, and Sims 4's graphics!"

I absolutely despise this take, and I want to explain why. This is a very long rant and it is full of piss and vinegar directed at everything in the Sims 4. I'm gonna try to keep everything kinda professional as much as I can but I can't guarantee an unbiased opinion.

If you'll let me talk your ears off for a moment, I'd like to explain, from my own experience as an artist and a casual player, my issues with the art style and direction of The Sims 4 compared to The Sims 2. (I'm not really going to comment on 3 because I've never played it.)

I want to start off by explaining the difference between better graphics and higher resolution. The Sims 4 absolutely blows Sims 2 out of the water when it comes to textures and polygon counts on sims, no contest. But I'd argue that the graphics themselves... aren't better. They're worse, even, so much fucking worse. The biggest problems come from the stylization and the animations, in my opinion, so I'll explain what I mean.

Have you ever felt like the Sims in 4 just look... weird? Not quirky, not kinda strange, but off. Distressing. Uncanny. Whatever the fuck the kids call it nowadays. When you strip away the packs and the CC and the shaders, the sims in the base game look bad. They're very close to being human; they walk like us, talk like us, have families like us, but they don't look like us, not exactly. There's always something off about them, no matter how close you try to get. Proportions will be a bit off, or your eyelashes will be like three polygons for some fucking reason, and the jig is up. The illusion is gone.

This is one of the instances where a higher resolution and more detailed models and meshes work against you. You aren't making believe. You are beyond the point of pretending that the pixelated shapes are real clothes and bodies and faces, because at this point, they're close enough that you don't need to. There's no gap to bridge. But that doesn't necessarily mean that they're lifelike, at least, not enough to be completely human. In some ways, they're still tethered to being cartoony and plasticky and fake. Just enough to frighten you. Enough to put you off. They're not using it to their advantage anymore, and instead, it's holding them back.

When the Sims 2 came out in 2004, the developers knew that they weren't going to make a perfectly accurate life simulator. They physically couldn't render every wrinkle in the face or fold in the clothing. In some animations, things clip strangely or the facial expressions are sort of janky or there's just some form of roughness around the edges. But that's okay; your brain doesn't need a perfectly accurate representation this time. That's not what you're here for, anyway.

The Sims 4 is basically Icarus-ing itself into disaster. The entire game sacrifices style for complete realism, a goal that was unachievable ten years ago, and is unachievable now.

The Sims 2 never thought of itself as a completely realistic life sim, though. It has cartoony, low poly meshes and exaggerated proportions and wild, raunchy storylines that would never occur in real life. BECAUSE IT ISN'T REAL LIFE. And it isn't like real life, not because it's failing to be, but because it doesn't want to be!

The Sims 4 is not ever going to completely replicate human looks or interactions or dynamics. And if it's trying to, it's doing a shit job of it. That shouldn't be the goal in the first place. If I wanted to watch a lonely college student talk to himself in the mirror to try and get better at interacting with people, I'd close the computer and go look at myself. It somehow highlights the most mundane parts of life without any of the whimsy and goofiness that the earlier installments had. It takes itself too fucking seriously for its own good, and it's killing both the gameplay and the art style.

The other point I'd like to bring up is the animation. The Sims 4 allows for much more customization of both sim and environments, but at the cost of dynamic animations. How many times is that grab animation reused? How many times is the same set of animations used for sims with wildly different personalities? Your sims barely feel alive with how little they express themselves.

Now, look, I'm a digital artist. I've dabbled in animation, but only briefly, and only in 2D. I've got no clue how 3D animation works, much less how it worked 20 years ago, but I can see the passion in every single animation in the Sims 2. The more niche interactions allowed for more expressive animations than in 4. They could afford to have a distinct animation for mean sims throwing the football extra hard to be assholes, rather than every sim using the same generic football-throwing animation to save time and money. I get where they're coming from. I get the idea. But in one move, you've both made the art style stiffer and less expressive, and you've made the personalities of the sims seem meaningless. Everyone acts the same, regardless of what their moodlets or their traits say. It's hollow. It's stifled. It's a waste of potential.

But for what Sims 2 lacks in polygons, it makes up for in smaller animated details. Quality over quantity. The sims have hair physics, they open the door before they get in the car, they take utensils out of the counters when they cook, they jump on the couch and the cushions smush under their weight. When they dance, the weight is realistic, and when they smile, it tugs at every one of the few dozen shapes that make up their faces. The sims are lively. They dance and sing and love and hate just like humans, and rather than being some strange attempt at mimicry, it's almost a tribute. They were made with love. You can tell that they were drawn up and rigged and animated by a bunch of people working together, studying each other and making faces in the mirror for reference and watching their kids and neighbors and dogs and hands for reference. The sims are not human, and not trying to be, but they're taking the most human parts of us and making them their own.

You could never have a game with the Sims 4's graphics and the Sims 2's gameplay. The gameplay and graphics are inexorably connected, and the Sims 2 just has so much glorious detail baked into it, that you could never really make it work underneath the limitations of the later games. The developers of 2 knew what their limits were, and they worked tirelessly to make the game as full and complex as they could within those limits. The developers for the Sims 4 just did not have those guidelines, and thus, the drive to bend the rules was no longer there. They didn't go wild in rebellion because they were never told they couldn't in the first place. They spent the entire time chasing a goal they couldn't meet, and lost sight of what made the series fun to begin with.

It wasn't the realism you came for; you had realism already surrounding you. It was the caricature of it that made it interesting.

A Peek to My SFS Stats

I know some creators prefer not seeing their download numbers and that's fair! This kind of stuff can easily cause pressure and/or feelings of underachievement.

For me though, it's just statistics. And since it's pretty precisely 5 years from when I first uploaded anything to SFS, I've gathered some data to play with.

So, this very self-indulgent post is solely about my SFS stats. Just because I'm a total nerd I find it interesting, and I like being open about things. It's long and blabbery so the rest is safely under the cut.

For the background: I tend to create whatever I need for my own game. I share my weird stuff because I feel like it's a trade for everything I download from others.

Probably due to the lack of any consistency or branding at all, my CC has a wide range in download numbers. I have some popular pieces, sure, but also some niche mods like no snow accumulation that has only interested 126 persons in nearly two years.

Even though saying "only 126" is an illusion created by the internet. Imagine if those 126 individuals would come to you in person. That's more people than I've probably even had a real talk with during the last year!

The raw data of my SFS main folder is (calculated with a sheets program): it has 227 files and the average download count for each file is 1557, but 74% of the files have been downloaded fewer times than the average.

So even though my CC isn't usually downloaded that much, I've shared a handful of things that have been downloaded so much more than everything else that they pull the average up.

What are those things? Time is an important factor here, as most CC tends to gather downloads over time (not a single post from 2023 on this list).

1) Subtle wrinkles (January 2022)

17313 downloads (674 hearts; ~3,9% of all downloaders) Post notes: 1112

That's several thousand more than the second most downloaded thing I have, and it's such a random thing.

I'm sure most people have downloaded them to get those 4t2(ish) forehead wrinkles. I have no other explanation as the rest of them are hand-drawn by a person who can't draw. Also the preview is frankly hideous, I used about one minute to take it... safe to say I didn't expect this post to gather any attention at all.

2) Cellphone default (January 2021)

13547 downloads (565 hearts; ~4,2% of all downloaders) Post notes: 1133

Noteworthy that it's been updated a couple of times which pushes people to redownload.

This was a quick passion project, since at that time I couldn't find a cellphone default I was completely happy with. If it hadn't been a quickie, I would've used more time to find a good base mesh oof. Many thanks to @pforestsims for later improving it.

3) Tombstone defaults (December 2019)

12477 downloads (582 hearts; ~4,7% of all downloaders) Post notes: 1064

I was so proud of these when I made them. Those were my first mesh defaults ever! Today, I'm proud of my past self for doing them. That's crazy many meshes and subsets to handle for a total noob.

I couldn't do anything with BHAVs back then, so those defaults would've never ever happened without @midgethetree. She endured a lot, working with a noob who went through several meltdowns because of subset issues that didn't make any sense.

4) Baby personality mod (February 2020)

9724 downloads (489 hearts; ~5% of all downloaders) Post notes: 1193

The first mod on the list! Absolutely essential one for myself and apparently for some others too.

Also the actual first mod of my own ever. I can't really recommend starting with something this complicated, I had zero ability to perceive the scope of the mod when I asked if @midgethetree was willing to help me through it. She deserves all the praise for doing it, I've realized later that I couldn't ever teach anyone the way she taught me. So, if you read this: thank you, Midge.

5) Rabbit pen default (August 2022)

9628 downloads (442 hearts; ~4,6% of all downloaders) Post notes: 1305

This was completely @deedee-sims' idea and project! I just hopped in (hah) to help. I'm only hosting it for practicality, as the BHAVs most often need updating, and those are by me.

6) Turn On/Off replacements (July 2021)

8644 downloads (388 hearts; ~4,5% of all downloaders) Post notes: 1470

This post has more notes than any other post of mine, yet it's not even nearly the most downloaded thing I've done. The two don't always go hand in hand.

I've also shared an updated version of these lately in a new post. It's unlikely they'll get the same amount of attention, which on paper doesn't make much sense since it's practically the same thing but done better. But I'm sure everyone knows that the hype and the quality don't always match.

7) Pixelry’s KKB fridge recolors (February 2022)

8147 downloads (329 hearts; ~4% of all downloaders) Post notes: 662

This is such an oddity on this list since it's the only recolor set and the post has fewer notes than the other ones, too. People just (secretly) really like cute fridges, apparently.

8) Crib teeth anim fix (August 2022)

6157 downloads (431 hearts; ~7% of all downloaders) Post notes: 1408

This list is already long enough, but I wanted to show how fast the number starts dropping at this point.

This got posted a day before the bunnies, and I find it funny to think that for about 3000 people it's more pressing to have bunnies in their game than fixing their toddlers dropping teeth while crying lol.

No point in continuing the list forever, but among my most note-gaining Tumblr posts are also:

Puppy/kitten want replacements (October 2022, 1114 notes, 3849 downloads)

Improved biotech station (July 2022, 1110 notes, 3893 downloads)

While I don't have a real conclusion to offer, it's clear that notes don't always get realized to downloads, and likewise many people download without interacting with posts.

One more thing I'd like to point out is that the percentage of people who hit that SFS heart button seems pretty constant. I feel like it shows that some people just have that habit and some don't, and it's not likely directly related to how much they like the thing.

The amount of SFS hearts that crib teeth anim fix has gotten doesn't follow this pattern lol. It's really not common to see the percentage change even that much.

Here's a challenge. Say something genuinely good about Scott (It can either be cc!Scott or c!Scott)

c!Scott cares very deeply about people near him, even if I find him misguided everything he does is well-intentioned and done in the name of love and that in of itself is worthy of being called good.

He's a quick-thinker and smart enough to know when a lie will land, and has the confidence to keep up a lie when there's pushback (e.g. when Joel tried to steal FH's cows in 3L). Alot of the little things he does, like building his base on the corner of the map, are also indicative of his shrewdness.

He's very observant and knows how to let people know he's not to be messed with while not pissing everyone off or painting himself as the villain and thus putting a target on himself. In Wild Life Episode 4, Skizz compares him to the toughest inmate in prison and Etho says that killing Scott is hard, showing that he knows how to discourage people from targetting him.

But he's not all brains and no brawn, Scott is no slouch in a fight and he's aware of this, but doesn't go parading it around because he's smart enough to keep it on the down low. He's especially scary at long range with a bow, as he seems to have a habit of panicking in melee but he is still I would say one of the strongest PvPers in the cast.

He's adorable and a riot in the rare instances he drops the "mum friend" role, like when he's up to mischief with Pearl in LL or having a "boys will be boys" off with Joel.

and he is very handsome and my specialest boy.

cc!Scott I actually find pretty funny but not for the reasons he intends. He's at his best when he's exasperated at other people's antics, plays a great 'straight man' (ironic) in pretty much any dynamic (Scott + Joel in particular I think play off of eachother really well)

He's politically not-that-weird. Which is a low bar but I appreciate it.

I can appreciate his sense of style at times. Here's some of my favs.

And finally he plays Minecraft in a way that changed my brain chemistry forever, made me make an unreasonable amount of art and writing, and I would genuinely not be the same artist without him. So I think I owe him a little bit of thanks.

There's probably more I could go on with especially re: c!Scott but I really like that one tumblr post abt the camp counselor and how good traits and bad traits aren't independent of eachother but intertwined and often two sides of the same coin, as alot of those things I listed for c!Scott are things that directly correlate to his worst, most insane traits. Food for thought.

For in-game pics of most of this stuff, just consult my sims 3 Critical Role tag. All of it is pretty self explanatory, but I wanted to explain one thing or two, and point out exactly what FLAWS are present:

ASHTON

The Crystal Hair [BETA] was one of the hardest pieces of CC I've ever messed around with.

FLAWS: The mesh sits HELLA awkward on the head, and the clipping/floating through the skull in some areas is bad on some head shapes. Also, a weird texture glitch on the skull might randomly pop up in CAS, not Live Mode, and IDKY. *sigh* This is what I get for trying something different.

The Cut Crystal as Head ACC & DA2 Persuasion Maul as ACC (and Misc Decor) all have recolorable variations with a clear & opaque texture. The Nails as Earrings are self explanatory. The Cracked Rock or Glass BODY & FACE Tatts as usual REQUIRE CmarNYC's tatt mod at MTS.

CHETNEY

I made the ATS3 Female Beanie Unisex and tweaked the textures a bit. The CR3 Chetney INSP RTA Tattoo is a regular EA tattoo.

FLAWS: For the life of me, I CANNOT fix the janky bone joints under the armpits on the Blacksmith Outfit. So...avert your eyes (or just use the regular Blacksmith Outfit with the sleeves). U_U

DORIAN

I was surprised by how well the Chest & Boot Wing ACCs came out, considering those were my own meshes (for once).

For the Dragon Valley Top I just retextured Danjaley's edit by tweaking the RGBY mask a bit. It's not great, but oh well. Neither is the Cape Accessory.

FEARNE

The Horns ACC is a mashup of X X X. The Stave ACC is a mashup of X X and I made the acorn glow with the ghost/plumbbot shader. IIRC the Horns and Ears ACCs have different sliders, one for the Hat Slider and one for Glasses sliders, but if I didn't do that...oops?

The Faun Outfit is a frankenmesh of the TSM corset dress @aprilrainsimblr converted and the TW3 Succubus outfit converted here. I added a few different RGB control variations as I was playing around with different options.

IMOGEN

I took the Shanty Top converted here and lowered the vest mesh as it sat too high on sims' waists, lightened the too-dark Multiplier, and made the sleeves sheer. The Suspenders and Skirt both REQUIRE the SN EP for the fat/fit morphs.

LAUDNA

I made @natalia-auditore's different accessory Bloody Hands as Body Tatts that REQUIRE CmarNYC's tatt mod at MTS, to reduce the amount of layered ACCs that cause texture blurring.

The Stylus Hair is an edit I did of Gramsims' Stylus hair (X), to add Laudna's signature white streak, fix the joints, and lower the polys a bit (it's still high though). (I used a hairline makeup for the baby hairs--IDER which one.) The Top is an edit from one of EA's, tweaking the waist mesh and changing the RBGY mask & overlays. I couldn't decide if I liked the Hammer or Pickaxe ACC, so I just threw in both.

Oryn

The Left Pauldron ACC is just the left side separated from the Dragon Valley top (Camkitty's mesh edit made my life easier), same with the Mitrasi Wrist Flower ACC.

hi astra! something that i always think is fun and is currently rattling around in my head is ranking the districts, specifically grimsborough. i’d love to hear your opinion on it and compare and contrast it to mine!

I thought you were going to ask me to rank EVERY district in the series until I read “specifically Grimsborough”! That’s what I get for jumping to conclusions…😅

Thanks for limiting it to one season! I couple probably rank the districts within each season, but it would be hard to do them all together!

Now, let me grab the list of the Grimsborough districts and see how I would rank them!

6- Industrial Area

As nostalgic as this district is for introducing me to CC (specifically, Corpse in The Garden), it falls short in being as good as the following districts. Sure, it wasn’t a train wreck, but it lacks anything unique or special to make it memorable beyond being the first district in the CC franchise. The cases aren’t very memorable, except for a few, and they don’t flow together as well as other district cases do. Overall, it's not a horrible first district, but it's far from the best of the Grimsborough ones for me, at least.

5- Airport

This one is so low mainly because it's so short, and therefore, for me, it doesn’t feel as grand as the other districts. Yes, it is the final district of Grimsborough and having it be hidden until you unlock it (at least in the PC version) was cool. Still, it somewhat felt like you were speedrunning, discovering and defeating what was supposedly Grimsborough’s biggest secret. I have similar thoughts about The Wastes in Pacific Bay, and I’m glad PS stopped having the final districts be so much shorter than the rest in future seasons. Returning to the Airport district, I enjoyed playing it, but I would have liked to have had more time to delve into the Crimson Order and its long-standing control of Grimsborough. Also, as cool as the time travel thing was in the cases of that district, they seemed weird and out of place at times…

4- Financial Center

Considering it was only the second district, I think the Financial Center made a significant improvement in terms of making the cases feel connected. Sure, some of them were still forgettable, but I tend to remember more of this district’s cases than I did for the Industrial Area. Plus, having the side plot of Alden Greene seemed to work better than the Marconi or Vipers vs Skulls side plots. And the build-up to the climax of the final district case was more coherent, in my opinion, which led to the developers further improving their foreshadowing in future districts and seasons.

3- Historical Center

From a personal standpoint, the Historical Center is actually my favourite district. However, from an analytical point of view, which I have chosen to use in this list, I rank it as the third best. Almost all of the cases are uniquely memorable in their own ways, while still fitting the theme of the district. The foreshadowing of the final case being at the dog pageant was evident throughout most of the cases. But compared to the last two districts on this list, it wasn’t as intense, and the district-specific plot wasn’t as significant as theirs in terms of mystery and attention-grabbing content.

2- University

For me, the University district feels like the first one to really connect the cases, even before The Rorschach Reaper was revealed. I enjoyed how they directly connected multiple cases through the serial killings, and also had other cases be connected in different ways while building up to the prom ball, where the final case would occur. I love how unique each case is without going overboard (usually), and even the side plots didn’t feel out of place. We also got to reveal new secrets that we will carry with us into future districts, such as the reveal of Cathy King, rather than them being confined to the district.

1- Maple Heights

In my opinion, this could have been the final district if some aspects of the plot had been slightly altered. It had the length, drama, twists, and surprises to make it a memorable experience. For me, it stands out the most among the districts because from its first case, we begin the side plot of the mayoral election that carries on until the final case. We have an end goal in sight from the start, and we work through unique cases along the way until we reach the climax. We also get to experience a five-chapter case during “It All Ends Here,” something I believe we only ever experience again in S3. So, all in all, I think this was the top district in Grimsborough, but I will say it's still a close call between my other top three districts.

And that’s my list! Of course, they're just my thoughts from more of an analytical view, but even if I put personal bias into the equation, the list wouldn’t change that much. The only difference is that the Historical Center would be on the top, but that’s mainly because it has one of my favourite characters (James Savage) in it, so that’s a little unfair to the other districts!

When Etho starts losing it he’s panicking he’s turning against former allies. And cleo climbs the ladder and says “it’s just me” and he. Relaxes. Wow the Cletho. 

Double life

Some people don’t like double life which I don’t get bc it was literally perfect. Like a married at first sight reality romance show set in the middle of summer. And bdubs playing into it with the love island intro music. 

The ranchers! and maybe the most iconic moment of tango rage ever recorded

The cleo-martyn-scott-pearl mess and the amazing storylines that emerged from it

Desert duo brought together AGAIN by fate like I have never really shipped desert duo but there was that moment at the end of episode 1 where grian drops the stalactite on scar and then hauls him off with his fishing rod so exhausted but FOND in a way that really made me open my eyes and be like… ohhh okayyyy

Bdubs and impulse being the perfect couple meanwhile bdubs seething inside bc etho’s not his and etho seething inside bc bdubs isn’t his and the weird tension when impulse and etho went to the deep dark together it makes me CHOKE laughing and when etho asked “impulse treating you okay, bdubs” I really. Can’t. Dominant and support. 

The red velvet keep battle was so insanely dramatic w scar water bucket clutching and jimmy-tango dying wahhhh

When cleo and Scott were spying on the reds and etho said something like “don’t mess w cleo” and cleo turns to Scott and silently loses it bc wtf why is etho so scared of her

Limited Life

The clockers gave me everything I wanted and more like yes please let’s put all my favorite ccs together on one team and give them a bizarre family dynamic. The first ep where bdubs says “make me a pickaxe cleo! Fasterrr.” That audio plays in my head on repeat. The FAMILY DINNER. Etho taking his sons out to play catch w a TNT minecart. Everyone was improvving their hearts out like it really was something to behold. 

When bdubs and etho built the road together and had a serious conversation about Building.

Here's part 2:

It was a sunny winter morning, despite the cold Marigold and CC had been out for a few hours, trying to find something entertaining to do with their spare time since the lake wasn't cold enough to skate but the lake wasn't hot enough to swim.... Unless you had a death wish.

Sky Jade had come out to play with her older siblings as Maude Ivory was still asleep. "Can I come play with you?" Sky Jade asked, holding a stuffed bunny with the creatively thought of name- "Bunny". Bunny was scruffy and had turned into a off brown colour over the years. It was always nestled under Sky Jades arms even when she was asleep. Sky Jade was the smallest and youngest in the covey which meant she got a ton of love and treats. Her pale face was covered in freckles and she had big, baby blue eyes and a small scar above her lip which she had when she had since she was little. She didn't know where it really came from though and Marigold refused to tell her. Sky jade always wore her blonde hair in two pigtails which she often used to cover her face.

"Nuh uh. We don't allow babies to play with us- your gonna get hurt and I dunno how to be a doctor" Marigold told her as she jumped off the tree, trying her best to keep her balance as she fell off.

"I ain't a baby! I'ma 7!" Sky jade complained, crossing her arms as she pouted. "Bunny said I'ma grown!" She whined softly.

"You still suck your thumb and you can't lie 'bout it cause I saw it from my bunk bed" Marigold complained. The covey had only 2 bedrooms. They weren't the biggest but could fit enough bunkbeds for the kids. The only 'Kid' who didn't sleep in the kids room was Dolly Rose due to having to have a good night's rest due to going to school although Sky Jade often snuck into Lucy Gray's bed with Maude Ivory as they both got scared quite often.

"I'MA GONNA TELL LULU!" Sky Jade complained as she ran off with Bunny in her arms. "LULUUUUUU!!!!!!!!" She screamed loudly while running over to the covey house.

Marigold chased after her. "Shhhh!!!!!" She gave her a look, annoyed Sky Jade got her way again. "Fine. You can play- But if you break a arm you ain't allowed to cry. Not one bit" she grumbled.

"OK!!!!!!" Sky jade screamed excitedly, jumping up and down joyfully.

"CC cmon. We gonna ride bikes down the hill!" Marigold said as she grabbed her old bike. The bike was definitely not safe at any stretch of the imagination. It was old and extremely rusty. The breaks didn't always..... Work either. Apparently it was more 'fun' that way according to Marigold.

Sky jade excitedly skipped along with her family as she got on her small bike. It was homemade a few years ago when Marigold was smaller and needed training wheels. Sky Jade got on her wooden bike which she decorated with tons of stickers she got from the general store with her pocket money she had saved for 2 WHOLE DAYS! that was alot for her.

Marigold jumped on her bike with CC. CC waited for Sky Jade, not wanting to abandon his little cousin. Although Marigold rode off, without a care in the world.

Sky Jade struggled to get started as she tried to push off. "Mm! CC- help!!!!" She whined.

"Here-" he said slightly, giving her a slight push to get her moving. Sky Jade quickly began pedaling quickly as CC stayed behind her, making sure she didn't fall.

(Meanwhile)

Magic Maroon was laying on the floor, kicking her legs as she used her old school notebook, using the blank pages which she hadn't used during her time at school. Her sister, Dolly Rose wanted her to go more often but Magic Maroon never fit in.... It was like everyone knew she was weird even when she tried to hide it. Even sometimes the covey thought she was weird- even though they didn't say it... Well... Dolly Rose did.... She didn't mean to but- she knew it was true.

Magic Maroon dressed differently then most of the covey. Some of her outfits were even more colourful then Lucy Gray's and Lucy Gray was like... The queen of colour!-

Magic Maroon favourite outfit was a bright blue cardigan covered with black stars knitted into the soft blue fabric. She had a colourful flowery dress under the cardigan and her black hair in two uneven pigtails or braids. They were always uneven and always tied with colourful ribbons she had gotten for her birthday a few months ago. Magic Maroon always made sound while walking. She had pockets full of trinkets, arms filled with bracelets and stickers everywhere even on her black issued school shoes. Due to having a massive growth spurt recently, it was the only ones that fit her. If it was summer, she'd usually go without shoes. Most of the covey kids usually didn't wear shoes in the late spring to late summer although when the leafs fell- Lucy gray made them wear shoes (which Marigold hated with a passion-).

Magic maroon came downstairs, looking for anyone to play with. She didn't really have a specific best friend. She'd usually play with Marigold and CC although sometimes they were way to dangerous for her. She didn't want to be bedridden for a week due to Marigold again....

She also didn't want to play with Sky Jade and Maude Ivory as they were only little and they got scared when Magic Maroon wanted to play the 'kidnapped princess'. It was a game she made up a few years ago- apparently before panem a ton of princesses roamed and had to get saved by a 'big strong' man although Magic Maroon didn't think men were.... That good.

Dolly Rose was boy crazy- she fell for everyone and anyone... Especially Peacekeepers! That was... Weird according to Magic Maroon and Marigold. That was the only thing they agreed on. Boys were GROSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

She finally found Dolly Rose, practicing her sewing on Sky jade's ripped dress. She had tripped a few days ago, ripping her knee length dress and Dolly Rose was fixing it for some reason that Magic Maroon didn't really know which meant time for a investigation!!!- like those cool spy movie they saw once! "Whatcha doin'?" Magic Maroon asked.

"Learning how to be a good wife someday" Dolly Rose said, fixing the dress. "The girls in my class said you must start early" She said quickly before fixing the dress once more.

"Ain't that gross? I don't wanna husband!" Magic Maroon complained to her older sister. Dolly Rose was so pretty and young! She was only 13. It wasn't right she was thinking about marriage this early!

"Because your immature" Dolly Rose quickly said, looking up at her sister. Her natural beauty was covered in thick makeup that Lucy Gray let her borrow only once. That one time was 10 months ago.

"But your being so captioly. Remember we don't like them?" Magic Maroon didn't like how her older sister was becoming so.... Captioly. It was weird- the covey wasn't like that!

"Well I ain- cannot help it if they are good with fashion" Dolly Rose said, her covey accent fading with every sentence although it occasionally slipped through.

Magic Maroon looked at her like she had 3 heads before she decided to leave... It was weird. Creepy weird..............

(Back with Marigold, CC and Sky Jade)

After about 2 hours of riding bikes down muddy hills and falling off, Marigold was covered in head to toe in mud with CC. Sky Jade didn't have any mud on her as she had found a small meadow to pick some flowers for Lucy Gray.

"Cmon-" Marigold smirked as she biked back home, almost forgetting Sky Jade again. She wasn't the best older sister.... Was she?-

Cc made sure Sky Jade got home safe and sound as they biked off, helping Sky Jade keep up as Marigold zoomed off.

As they got into the door, Dolly Rose looked like she was going to kill someone or herself due to the amount of mud they were about to track in. "Getta out with your mud!!! Ain't bringin' it in here. I'ma gonna get barb azure to whip your ass if you brin' anythin' in here! Go wash up now" she quickly said, whacking them out with her broom. When she got angry, Dolly Roses accent came out.

"WOAH WOAH keep your head on!!!!!!!!!" Marigold complained as she walked off with CC.

Cc grabbed the hose pipe, letting it run a little. The covey didn't have much reliable water so they had to be fast. He quickly washed himself off before washing off Marigold. "Go inside. I dont wanna you to freeze" CC told Marigold as Marigold ran off inside, quicky grabbing a towel. She dried off her untradtionalyly short blonde hair before drying off her legs and arms, changing into a old pair of Cc's PJ's he had grown out of a few years ago. They were a off white and had off blue stripes due to the years of wear. While Marigold changed, CC changed into a pair of gray pajama bottoms and a white shirt. The covey pajamas were actually quite borning, their money was usually used on performance outfits instead of unique pajamas.

Since it was getting late, Sky Jade was curled in Lucy Gray's chest, sucking her thumb as she was curled close to her. Despite Lucy Gray hating about how much Sky Jade sucked her thumb, she just signed. "Whatca you playin'?" She asked her as Sky Jade was falling asleep in her arms as the covey adults talked as the younger kids played a board game together. Curfew for the kids was when it got dark because they didn't want them to get hurt or lost.

"We playin' snakes and ladders!" Maude ivory said as Marigold took a turn. She landed an 8 which meant she had to go all the way back to the start. As CC rolled he got a 3, able to win. Marigold grumbled, throwing a pillow at his face. "Idiot. I'ma gonna beat you next time-" she smirked, trying to hide the fact she was annoyed.

"Is next time tomorrow?" Maude ivory asked tiredly, rubbing her eyes slightly.

"It's time for bed all of ya. I don't wanna any grumpy kids tommrow!" Lucy Gray called out, giving them a look to get upstairs and off to bed. For once, everyone listened as they had a tiring day due to playing outside. They also knew that they didn't want to get grounded tommrow for not listing. Although Dolly Rose was allowed to stay up, after turning 13 she was classed as almost like an 'adult'. She was now allowed to do 'adult things' such as stay awake later and even have a little alcohol sometimes.

Marigold crawled into her top bunk as she shared a bed with CC. Sky Jade and Maude ivory of course shared a bed due to being best friends and Magic Maroon had her own bunk, she used to share with Dolly Rose before she got 'upgraded". The bunks were handmade by Tam Amber and Billy taupe a good few years ago due to growing covey numbers. The bunks were old, but sturdy. Lucy Gray came inside the room, tucking Sky Jade in "Go to sleep. You gotta go to bed with the birds if you want to greet them at dawn" Lucy Gray said before blowing the kids a kiss and switching off the naked dim blub which hung above the room. She lit a small candle, putting over a glass dome over the open flame to protect the kids from getting burnt.

Finally..... The house was silent. All the kids were asleep for now.......

not sending this ask to be rude, just curious about the post you made about it being impossible to talk about the dsmp without considering the creator's irl relationships. i'm personally of the opposing opinion (agree to disagree, like you said) but i wanted to ask what exactly should be considered? are we considering things like dream being horrible, wilbur an abuser, etc? if that's the case, i don't really understand how it's imperative because like any character played by shitty people in any different media, they're still characters separate from the creator's lives. and when taking into account the relationships the creators have between each other, and applying them to meta and analysis of the dsmp, is it also not fair to say that we don't really know as an external party what exactly those relationships are like between the creators? everything that hasn't been explicitly stated ends up being word of mouth or speculation. and then it's like, do we apply glimpses of the creator's lives we've seen to meta? like the dsmpblr discord server leaks? or do you mean influence as in how covid impacted the dsmp, which the impact of quarantine i feel is something that has been discussed numerous times in regards to how it's influenced the members? what exactly is imperative to apply to analysis? again, not trying to come across as rude or combative, just trying to understand your standpoint and others who feel similarly

to me, i think its important to consider the fact that a lot of the foundations for these character are the creators own personalities and connections, and yes while we don't know their relationships as viewers, the fact that multiple creators like slimecicle and quackity expressed the fact they didn't know where the line was drawn between roleplay and actual conversations several times is where i started holding this belief. i do feel like we should remember that dream and wilbur both wrote their characters to be bad people who win in the end (until the retcon which is being supported all around) while being bad people. like i said, i still see these characters as characters, not the creators themselves, but its undeniable they are intrinsically connected to them. this is solely because dsmp was spur of the moment and this issue is mainly tied to the original/early members and becomes less of an issue with time (like micheal who created a wholly original character from the get go). we, the audience, know why ctommy and ceryn are friends, they found each other as kids and lived together because cc eryn wrote that. we're never given any narrative explanation to why ctommy and cwilbur consider each other brothers or how they came to be close, the meta explanation is because the creators themselves were close friends, thats what i'm referring to. i hope this makes sense and i felt how you did for most of my time being a fan but post-dsmp analysis has me thinking a lot abt how weird the series is as its own media

I'm so happy to hear you want to play sims 2. It's such an excellent game that is genuinely a blast to play despite it being 20 years old. And the community is very cool and creative!

I haven't uploaded my mods folder and won't be doing that for the following reasons:

it's a goddamn mess. I create stuff all the time for myself that I give random crappy names and then inevitably lose when someone wcifs it. I also have a bunch of weird shit that I only have with the intention of recoloring someday, and half-finished projects that I imported to test and then got bored with.

uploading an entire mods folder is generally frowned upon in the sims community at large because it's re-uploading creators' content without giving them credit (and to credit a whole folder would be nearly impossible)

most people don't have 'a' downloads folder. or at least, not most cc creators. they have multiple folders based off of what they are doing with the game (playing, just CAS, playtesting ongoing projects etc.)

most importantly - you don't want someone else's mod folder. trust me. I once downloaded someone else's mod folder when I was getting back into the game many years ago and regretted it greatly. a lot of the stuff in it turned out to not be my taste and deleting individual mods in sims 2 is a bit of an involved process. it was more work than it was worth. you will have more fun building your own based off of your own style - and cc shopping is FUN!

I can help you with some suggestions on how to get started!

the sims 2 default database has defaults for all hairs/clothes in the game

the sims 2 hair database is AMAZING and one of my favorite cc resources ever. huge thanks to everyone who keeps it up-to-date.

the 4t2 and 3t2 object databases are also awesome

some creators have uploaded default hair dumps if you don't want to download default hairs one-by-one (like this one and this one)

my favorite place for cc hunting is pinterest. you can find soooo much great sims 2 cc on there and be entertained for hours.

A Question about Terrain Paints

After some hours of googling and coming across interesting details about the Sims 2 game that I didn't know about yet, but not getting an answer for what I had googled for in the first place, I have no choice but to ask for help (and to say sorry if the answer to my problem is obvious for anyone but me):

So, the terrain in one of my lots looks like this:

This isn't terrain paint, it's the default. Whenever I tried to cover it with new terrain paint, the brown spots were shining through whatever paint I was laying above it. I deleted the few custom terrain paints I had in my game, and while that didn't cause the terrain to turn into a flashing blue surface, the spotty terrain persisted.

However, now the Maxis' terrains were forming square patterns when spraying them on the ground, only the garden earth paint from the base game was able to cover the spots up correctly.

Using the boolProp lotTerrainPaints false cheat makes the terrain normal again (but then you cannot apply any terrain paint at all), turning it on again transforms everything into molehill country again. Moving the lot to another place in the neighborhood doesn't help either. The lot is the only lot in the neighborhood with this problem, though it's the most played one in the hood - it's a residential lot with four Sims on it.

I took a look at the CC terrain paints that I had taken out and couldn't detect anything suspicious, except that their texture size is bigger than Maxis'.

So my questions are:

"Is it possible that I sprayed too many terrain paints on top of each other over the course of time so that the game had enough of my shenanigans and went on strike?`"

"Are there any cache files to delete other than the Groups and Accessory cache?

"Is it possible to somehow edit the lot file with regard to the terrain paint (never worked with lot files before)? If yes, could anybody point me to a corresponding forum post or something like that?"

I'm reluctant to just delete the lot and pretend nothing had ever happened. I'd prefer to carry out some more experiments first. ;)

EDIT: I did some more testing and obviously the garden earth terrain paint (mentioned above) is different than the other paints in that it is able to remove the brown "knolls", but only when you cover the ground with it FIRST and then do the ctrl-clicking.

All of the other MAXIS terrain paints do nothing but keep acting weird, refusing to make anything else but building square patterns. The testing took place without any custom content.

EDIT2: The plot thickens. I discovered that another MAXIS terrain paint is able to act normal: the mulch terrain (I must have overseen it until now). It's not able to remove the spotty brown terrain like the earth terrain paint does, but you can spray it on the ground like a good terrain paint. What I find weird is that these are the only two earth-like brown paints in the game .... BROWN like the spotty brown terrain. Am I going crazy?

Get to know you: Sims Style

Well I was patiently waiting to be tagged but it's not happened yet and @isimchi "tagged" anyone who hasn't so that means me 😁

What’s your favorite Sims death?

I mean, I have to say drowning. I have many a memory of my childhood best friend and I batch creating like 100 sims with the sole purpose to drown and make haunted lots... Surely we all did that though, right?

Alpha CC or Maxis Match?

These days I'm maxis match, and in particular my cc is 90-95% 4t2 stuff. Sometimes I miss non-clay hairs but not enough that I'd wanna switch back. I'm actually extremely happy with my game aesthetic at the moment. I see the appeal of alpha and I am alpha in sims 3 but I don't think I could go back to it in sims 2 anymore.

Do you cheat your sims weight?

Not directly... occasionally I've dragged needs up so a sim will exercise longer when they want/need a body skill because when it's not fall the body skill takes FOREVER to gain. So then they'll end up exercising so long that they get fit where they might not otherwise have. That's as close as I'd get to cheating their weight though.

Do you move objects?

I mean, yes. I both move objects and moveobjects. 😉 (although I've had the cheat alias "mon/mof" (yes, one f) for ages I don't even remember the proper way to type the cheat.

Favorite Mod?

Hmm that's tough. Some staples I couldn't live without are sim blender, ACR, monique's hacked computers, all the no regen mods, the auto saver, gussy up, and for some reason smonaff's period mod is the mod I've had in my game longer than anything else I have now. Been using that since the 2000s. Is it necessary? Probably not. Is it annoying? Yes but periods are annoying irl too. Would I miss it if I didn't have it in my game? Greatly.

First Expansion/Game Pack/Stuff Pack?

My parents bought the sims 1 on release when I was 3, and then at some point shortly thereafter I ended up entirely hijacking my mom's computer. But while they did buy every pack on release as well, the earliest pack that I still have solid memories of playing is Vacation. Is that all it was called? I think non-US versions had a cooler name like On Holiday or something.

Do you pronounce live mode like aLIVE or LIVing?

Ya know... I've never really thought about it until now but both. Sometimes I say LIVE and sometimes LIV. I don't know what goes on in my brain to decide which one I'm gonna say at any given point but I know for fact I say both.

Who’s your favorite sim that you’ve made?

I've had many favorite sims over the years, most long lost into the void. But one sim I think about a lot is one of my old ts3 sims Levi Engle. He was one of my first truly evil sims and really one of my last proper edgy sims as well and I've not had anyone quite like him since. This was like 2016 I think? I'm still waiting to have a sim like him again, in either 3 or 2. "Made" is not quite accurate, he was born. But he's one of my own, not a premade.

Which is your favorite EA hair color?

Red. Specifically since I prefer 4t2 clay hairs in EA's colors these days the red that's swatch 9. This one.

Young Adult, in all versions of the game. University is my favorite EP across the board.

Are you a builder or are you in it for the gameplay?

Gameplay. Every so often I feel build-y, and I have made entire custom worlds in ts3 and hoods in ts2 where I've build everything myself but mostly I prefer to just use other people's or the game's builds and just enjoy playing.

Are you a CC creator?

I sometimes feel kind of weird using the word "creator" since all I do is convert stuff but yes. I share cc.

Do you have any Simblr friends or a Sim Squad?

I don't know? I have some mutuals that I go like 😁 whenever I see in my notifs or messages from. But I don't really exactly talk to anybody.

Do you have any sims merch?

I've got a blanket with plumbbobs on it and my brother's girlfriend got me a sheet of ts4 stickers I've not used yet. Otherwise, do all the old discs and prima guides count? My discs are the most important things I own.

Do you have a YouTube for sims?

Not really. I have a youtube channel that's a hodgepodge for both my eurovision ranking videos and the occasional sims thing. But I'm not a sims youtuber at all.

How has your “Sims style” changed throughout your years of playing?

Oh boy, it has a lot. When I was a kid I destroyed pleasantview with fairy and mermaid cc from "UserDeb" on the Exchange and SapphireSims2 I think it was called? Mad emo cc and like households where it'd be two families living together so the teen girl and teen boy could secretly meet together in the dead of night in the bathroom. Back then lots of one-off totally unrelated families in an otherwise empty custom hood that I'd play for the duration of a random idea I had then drop. Then in the 2010s I had a long stint of this like making 8 YA girls and 8 YA boys and pairing them up and then graduate and marry and kid and then create 8 more YAs in CAS and repeat and that got like 15 generations once. I did that kind of not really playing but more just like breeding for years. Whereas whenever I'd stop playing 2 and play 3 instead I would "properly play" and have long ass legacies. I never touched the premade sims until I tried to play Pleasantview in 2020. I did have a few failed megahoods then. Now I am wants-based and I prefer to have as little control as possible over my sims. I could say a lot more here but I'm tired.

Who’s your favorite CC creator?

Talk about a hard question! For times sake I'm going to say @deedee-sims because when I deleted my 48+ GB folder of alpha CC to start anew maxis match-y the first new CC I had was everything of DeeDee's.

What expansion/gamepack is your favorite?

ts2 University. I just love it.

Shoutout to Prompto, Noctis, and Ignis, who I didn't want to separate, all the moogles in FFIX and Artimicion in CC, Chocobos who aren't from X-2, and Terra and Chocolina for being faves despite me not finishing their games (Terra I know well enough from Dissidia and WoFF, Chocolina was in WoFF and I watched a lot of XIII-2 but never played it. That's not even the list of the characters I _really_ like. Tifa, Yuffie, and Cloud for also being good but in ffvii which is overwhelming to deal with.

Weird shoutout to the Ragtime Mouse for being the NPC I most want to see without necessarily being a fav. Also shoutout to Zidane for the line, "Believe me, I know I'm the worst bastard here." Which has been my name forever and one of my favorite scenes in video games period.

listen in the grand scheme of things i'm glad i let myself get back into minecraft content for this. like i haven't touched a minecraft series since like 2014, on purpose, but i saw clips of qsmp in march 2023 and thought, screw it. maybe it's time. and i don't regret it yknow? i saw multilingual server and thought 'that looks AWESOME' and it certainly didn't disappoint. my only regret is that everything went crazy and people logged off RIGHT when everyone finally started relying on the live translations more, which was something i've been dreaming of for months lmfao. all in all, just happy to be here. this stuff gave me new reasons to use my blog.

but yeah i'm glad i allowed myself to get invested in this server. i think y'all are cool, and i think the admins did amazing with everything they were given even though they shouldn't have been given it the way they were, and the ccs were cool and i'm glad everything happened yknow. maybe things will keep happening and maybe not but yknow what. i became All Powerful. i started watching as someone who knew english and some french and now i am someone who knows english (100%), slightly more french (like 70%), a workable understanding of spanish (like 40%) and a slightly less workable understanding of portuguese (like 20%) they added german to nerf me specifically. they knew i was getting too powerful. yeah, i spent some time as a kpoppie, i have a tiny miniscule understanding of korean (5%) german i have 0 experience with they added german to nerf me and then this happened to nerf me further. make no mistake they cannot stop me. i will become all powerful.

There are a lot of new good ones but hands-down my ultimate all-time favorite is the Community Time mod by crammyboy, as later tweaked by Chris Hatch. I cannot live without this mod and it is 50% of the reason I hate playing TS4. Why is it suddenly an ISBI anytime someone leaves the house? Who wants to play that game??

How has your “Sims style” changed throughout your years of playing?

I was definitely a casual player/serious CC collector for most of the first decade of the game. I was probably one of the first people to experience pink flashing from overloading dense, urban neighborhoods, and the game never being able to handle my dreams (in aLIVE mode) limited my actual playtime substantially. I took a couple years off and then in 2016 or 2017 came back enraptured with the Test of Time challenge (and modifying the ToT challenge rules as much as anything). Meraki is my third iteration of that, working past neighborhood corruption (1ST attempt; 4th gen) and founder fatigue (2nd attempt; barely got off the ground, it was just too weird trying again). Now (lately) I'm back to regular modern play (which means CC collecting and neighborhood setup, apparently).

How long have you had Simblr?

Probably… 2018-2019? I think I got the idea for Meraki around the time of my honeymoon and that's when I came up with the name 'anachronisims,' and my prior tumblr was just a general purpose thought repository.
