watched How to Build a Sex Room today and enjoyed it quite a bit. Wasn't sure what to expect and while there is at times some pg-13 to r-rated business for the most part it was a lot of wholesome home renovation
One of the things that really struck me was that each of these folks were going to get a room completely customized for them. Decor, textures, hardware, moving walls and storage and bathrooms hither and yon.
And I will never have that. Not a sex room specifically (I would have ...no use for one) but a space that is built entirely for me from studs outward.
I have lived in rentals all of my life barring the few years we were living with family but even then all of my homes have been in essence transitory. I have picked my own furniture and drapes and accessories but I have never painted a wall. I can move my things around as much as I want but I can't change the flooring they stand on. Every picture hook has to be weighed against a security deposit.
I dream about my home, you know. My office. My craft room. My kitchen. My bathroom. The piece of land it sits on. I know what it looks like.
And I pay my rent.
And I always will.

adventure time lore is insane. it starts off just being a goofy kids show that has magic for no reason, but then you learn that all magic users are manic and/or depressed (what betty calls sadness and madness). because it turns out magic is actually a cosmic force beyond mortal comprehension, that itself was learned from cosmic entities that predated the existence of time itself inside a sea of monsters. and "magic" really is just understanding more about the nature of the universe than most people. that, in a way, reality isnt "real" and understanding that allows you to mold it. and thats magic. but that drives you to insanity and/or apathy. and there are beings who hold significant cosmic importance who are more prone to magic. and the reason magic became prevalent on earth is because of a nuclear war a thousand years ago, which released the entity that represents the destruction of all life onto the world. and after a nuclear apocalypse this gave way to a new earth, where magic could thrive. but a lot of the beings we see arent even magical, theyre just mutants from what happened 1000 years ago. and humanity as we know it has been all but wiped out. but everything stays the same because cycles of war and violence continue. and it doesnt matter if its nukes or magic. everything stays the same, but still changes.

I liked this meme so much I decided to paint it. Who framed Roger Rabbit style breaking bad tutu crossover. You see it.
[ID: the “I think we’re gonna have to kill this guy meme” with Jesse pinkman and princess tutu. Jesse is painted in a more portrait like semi realistic style while Tutu is cartoony, resembling her on model appearance from the show. Jesse says “yo I think we’re gonna have to kill this guy Princess Tutu” with his hand on Tutu’s shoulder, and Tutu responds “damn.” End ID]

i didn't have super high hopes for the barbie movie going into complex feminism and political issues or anything considering its made by mattel but the right-wing and male reaction honestly had me really hopeful that i was wrong and that the barbie movie is trying to say something radical. and then i saw the movie and its just like. the most basic boring surface-level feminism movie ever. the most political thing they say is that women have it really rough under the patriarchy which like. yeah obviously. its also extremely nice to men like its clear that the kens turn bad not out of malice but misguidance and ryan gosling ken gets whole musical numbers and a whole arc about finding himself and getting to know ken w/o barbie. even the all-male leadership at mattel is depicted as well-meaning albeit buffoonish at times. so the fact that men and right wing audiences are claiming that the movie is anti-men or is this super radical film is just. incredibly sad to me. like even a movie this non-political with such surface-level corporate feminism is offensive to you? and even the leftists are acting like its revolutionary somehow. if your boyfriend didnt realize how bad women have it before seeing the fucking barbie movie you need to get a new boyfriend. idk. its just disappointing all around to see something as basic as "women have it rough" treated like its a revolutionary concept and it makes me genuinely despair for the future of women that the barbie movie is the most feminism some people have been exposed to. and even that little amount is too much for some people.

I'm barely to the massacre and I can already tell I'm going to be screaming at every this-makes-no-sense decision made by the writers (your temple is under violent attack, and you evacuate the kids... to a barely enclosed corner in a prominent temple room? Instead of to the hundreds of sky bison that were highlighted as flying in earlier? Why?) (And Aang left to clear his head and think instead of to run from his duties? That's such a less compelling plot arc?) (And the show had him briefly monologue about being a goofy kid who loves pies and his friends instead of using the extended temple scene to show any of that? Didn't want to pay more child actors, did you, Netflix?)
Yeah I'm just. Going to be screaming at the screen instead of enjoying this. Different decisions aren't necessarily bad, but when those decisions seem to be in the direction of "show a man burning alive before we even get to the on-screen massacre" this is just... not the show for me.
