strife solutions - strife’s solo series. i havent actually watched this one in full mostly because solo minecraft content is a bit of a drag for me (unless it’s RT haha) but if that’s your thing go for it

solutions and order - the “sequel” to blood and chaos/strife solutions that came out (checks notes) …six years later? i enjoyed it! it’s strife and some familiar faces to chaosville/yogs, also almost entirely scripted as opposed to just partly scripted/occasional improv. def has a “for the fans” vibe, but still fun

note that besides the last one all of these series are like ten years old now and have not aged the best. i mean they’re not blatantly awful but there’s just some outdated jokes and banter. they’re not like, high art in any means, so please don’t let my absolute insanity over them get your expectations too high LMAOO

Summary: Dorcas Meadowes and Narcissa Black at the start of their fifth year at Hogwarts. Two Slytherin girls with bright, promising futures ahead of them, trying to find their place in a world where nothing less than pure excellence is expected of them. They don't like each other, never have, and when everything around them is surely changing, that's something familiar to hold onto, at least. For the time being. This is gonna focus a lot on Slytherin house and pureblood culture, growing up queer in pureblood society, and eventually pass through the first war and change its outcome!

The future might be uncertain, but it's most certainly bright, of that they are sure. On the other hand, there were also rabbis who believed that because ice cream was a frozen product, it should be treated as dairy. This was because the freezing process was thought to alter the properties of the milk, making it more similar to dairy products.

Ultimately, after much debate, it was agreed that ice cream would be classified as parve, as it did not contain cow's milk and was not considered a main dish. It could, therefore, be eaten with either meat or dairy dishes without violating kosher laws.

As the popularity of ice cream continued to grow, different flavor variations emerged, including those made with chocolate or fruit. My father was big fan of herring in cream sauce. I always found it too heavy. It took me oil-cured matjes and herring in wine sauce (one of the few things I'll admit Zabar's can match Russ & Daughters on) to get into this particular fish.

Now I wonder if herring in its own milt (how is not the equivalent of simmering a kid in its mother's milk, to nom a herring in its own semen?), with a lighter creamy texture and the addition of vinegar, would be the best of all worlds? Was it the progenitor of herring in cream, or just a parve variant thereof? I'd try this, if only I knew where to get herring milt these days.

This is also a reminder of just how poverty-stricken Jews were in both the Old World and New. From a perspective of relative success in the US, we should not forget how many went hungry and were lost to the horrible attrition of disease, malnutrition, mental illness, and dangerous job conditions in the slums where we first settled. The story of American Jews is not one so much of triumph but of tragedy, survivorship bias, and some survivor's guilt.

every so often I remember that once I saw a comment in defense of hamilton going "oh, but the sound of music isn't chronologically accurate to the kids' ages or timelines of these people meeting/fleeing austria, either, are you mad at that???"

meanwhile 1. most people do not know the von trapps are real, which like... once again illustrates my point about duty to truth when you represent real people & history, because the lies told to sell a story quickly overtake all fact. and really, I could stop there!

but, 2. there are no slave owners in the sound of music, and 3. if the play's creative liberties had been abused to lionize the nazis or something, then yes, I'd have a BIG problem with it, obviously—

plus, 4. I was in the ensemble for this play in high school, in a very german town in wisconsin (so german that there was a pretty regular amount of day to day friction that held steady between the catholics & lutherans in town, before you even got into how folks felt about the polish, hmong, and chicanos in the city), and when we put the show on, a very old man came up to all the girls dressed as nuns and mentioned that he'd met the von trapp kids before, we were talented but not as talented as them (lol), but that maria terrorized those kids & forced them into singing professionally to pay the bills, so maybe it's all for the best that we didn't have to perform that on stage after all. I took him at his word at the time because the internet was not as strong as it is today, but like... it turns out that part is true, which is fucked up!

I can't necessarily blame her since it seems like the angry outbursts may have been mental illness based on the description of how her moods seemed to change on a dime (not that abuse is ever justified by mental illness, nor is it a symptom, but explosive mood swings can be); and I greatly dislike parents pushing children into exploitative labor in show business, but it was also the great depression & the parents sang, too. that's also no excuse for abusive treatment, but I get why the family would turn to that & why then the stakes were so high before the kids were free to choose different careers.

but at the end of the day... yeah, there's many reasons one could take issue with the portrayals of these real people as fictionalized characters in deeply fictionalized scenarios in the sound of music!

like I know it was meant as a "gotcha" example of an innocuous family friendly (white) musical, but it didn't work... and that comment sticks with me because all I can think is like. me at 14 or 15 in WAY too much foundation in the wrong color, wearing cut up hanes undershirts as the white part of my habit because the two-high-school theater program did not have the budget to rent all those costumes in full, and this little smiling old german man going, "oh, they said she was BRUTAL! thank god it wasn't in the script though because I don't think that little girl on stage could have pulled that off, ha ha," while internally I was torn between, "ok damn, noted, fucked up if true," and "lmao don't let the lead actress hear him say that but it's true as well."

hey talk about the warp effects parv gets ;>>>>>

oh boy is warp fun!

the first few warp effects parv gets seem almost Good. its mostly night vision, with the occasional bit of paranoia, but the real more negative effects kick in when hes starting to get heavily warped

effects undercut ft some art! (my own and minnies!)

one of my favorites (and the most common for him) is thaumarrhea which for aesthetics alone i have decided is now face ooze 

flux goo leaks from his eyes, nose, and mouth. the first time he actually dealt with it he tried to hide it from strife, which just lead to him coughing up pools of flux when he REALLY couldnt handle it anymore. it was. terrifying! 

he really struggles to deal w this one the most. some days hed just pretend its fine, this happens, he can deal with anything! other days he gets so weak he can barely get up and just lays there on the floor oozing (which is another awful sight) 

the second one he deals with the most is unnatural hunger. thats the one where your screen goes red and youre starving until youve eaten rotten flesh or zombie brains. 

parv just flat out goes Feral until he gets something to dig into. if they dont even have anything like that he will just maul a zombie himself and eat it fresh he doesnt Care he can barely even think

its. a fun time.

theres other ones i havent drawn (tho this is getting long enough as it is) such as sun scorched and blindness, but the lovely @lalnerd / @weepingalaxy also drew some warp effects and then some!

one of the extra things being that parv has a habit of sleep walking thanks to warp, which leads to him studying thaumcraft in his sleep. just writing down notes in a language he cant mentally comprehend yet, going off the page and onto the walls, or even lining his arms with red “ink” that, quite frankly, terrifies him.

theres a reason he wears those bandages, and its not blood magic anymore!
