“Are you sure?” You said, almost in shock. “Yes im sure” he said letting out a soft chuckle. “Then yes! Ill go!” You said basically jumping on him, giving georg one of the biggest hugs.

You met georg through your science class, and you both became inseparable since! He later introduced you to his other friends, Bill, tom, and gustav!

You found out he has a band and he plays with his friends. You started to develop a small crush on him after a while and you were super excited to see how this trip would go, since you would be able to spend even more time with him!

Almost everyone knew about your crush on georg but him, sometimes they would try to hint it at him but nothing worked as he would only say with a flushed face that you were nothing but friends.

Once you were there you put your things down on the sand and ran over to the water, walking in so the water only reaches your ankles.

You felt someone move next to you and you look to your left and smile seeing that it was just georg.

“Hi!” You said, with a bright smile on your face, “Hey ___, wanna go look around? I think i saw some really pretty hibiscus flowers over there.” He said, smiling back at you. “Ooo, yes!!” You said, following him.

It wasnt a far walk but you stayed pretty quiet, not knowing what to say to him.

He bent down and picked one of the flowers, allowing you to see all of the flowers that were all around.

He stood back up and pushed your hair aside, carefully placing one of them behind your ear, then smiling at you while you blushed.

“Thank you..” you said looking to the side to hide your flushed face. He chuckled and turned your face back, you made eye contact with him which left the both of you blushing.

He placed on hand on your cheek, carefully caressing it while the other was on your waist.

He leaned in and places his lips onto yours, leaving you in shock.

“FINALLY.” You heard, making you break the gentle kiss and back away.

Georg turned around and rolled his eyes, “We thought you guys were NEVER going to kiss.” Bill said, sighing in relief.

“About time you did, now you just need to ask her out georg!” You blushed and looked down as tom smirked.

“I was getting to that!” Georg said, a small tint of pink appearing on his cheeks.

“We will let yall be then!” They said walking away and laughing at the both of you.

“Were you really going to?” You said, fidgeting with your fingers nervously.

“I was.. sorry they ruined it ___.” He said frowning a bit. You smiled and put both of your hands on his cheeks, pulling him into a kiss.

When you pulled away, you both stared at each other blushing. “Will you be my girlfriend ___?” He said, biting his lip.

You nodded and kissed him again, “yes! I will!” You said squealing, giving him a peck on the lips and cheek.

“You have no idea on how long ive been waiting for you to ask me that georg.” You said giggling.

“And you have no idea on how long ive been waiting to ask you that.” He said, smiling.

You rested your forehead on his and smiled, pressing you lips onto his, this time, you wrapped your arms around his neck and deepened the kiss.

You wish you couldve stayed like that forever.

*crashes in here* ok ik i havent been here in a bajillion years and i am so sorry for that and unloading a small novel on you dgkdgkh

but i had the dumbest thought. imagine tryna teach the sanderson's modern stuff. cuz i just saw a selfship post that said something along the lines of studying with your fo (fictional other. like a significant other, but its a fictional character instead of an actual human sgshdh) and now all i can think about is attempting to teach winnie, mary, and sarah all the stuff ive learned over the years

im not sure who'd find which subjects the most interesting. i dont have any art textbooks but i do have some notes from art history and waaayyy too many art supplies and i'd be happy to teach mary and sarah about art history and how to use some of the things i have (assuming i remember how to use thems). i think winnie would be fascinated by science! theres some branches of it like chemistry that feel a lot like magic, but i.... dont have access to things like that nor the smarts to even attempt to do chem (i do have access to vids so theres that at least), so it'd be hard to teach her that. i do have some anatomy and biology books that i think she'd like, and i have so many space books and i am dying to share them with all three of them holy dhit.

as for history, i think all three of them would be fascinated by it. theres been so many things that have happened since they died the first time around as well as so much that happened before they were born or happened when they were young but on the other side of the world.

plus, maybe some of what im talking to them about would help stick in my own brain easier so thats a bonus!

I am SO SORRY I'm answering this right now, but the past few weeks have been hectic to say the least 😭 I started Swedish clases lol.

Anyway YES I AGREE Mary but Sarah especially would be so interested in art methinks. Actually I believe Sarah is interested in fashion in some way (I hc that she made her own clothes and helped make Winnie's gown). And YES Winnie is so woman in STEM to me 😩 however I failed Chemistry every single year of high school lol BUT I was top of my class on Biology 😎 and actually think Sarah and Mary would be interested in Biology, although for different reasons (one for cooking and the other well... torture 😅).

OH YEAH HISTORY THAT'S SO FUN I think maybe they have an interest in different eras, Mary is definitely more of a contemporary girl (the way she picks up modern slang??? Scary). Winnie might be obsessed with the British Royal Family ngl 😭 I wonder what she'll think of Princess Diana. Now Sarah I'm not sure what she would enjoy from History 🤔 I mean ig fashion history or something idk 😭😭😭

ALSO ACTUALLY I REMEMBER WATCHING AN ALCHEMY VIDEO and it's pretty much Chemistry so. I think Mary would enjoy Chemistry too but maybe a different branch. Medicinal Chemistry perhaps? While Winnie is more of a Environmental Chemistry girl (since she literally can shoot lightning from her fingers I wouldn't be surprised she wanted to make a contraption to... ⭑ on the topic of baseball, amy goes to every single baseball game bruce has. if she misses one of his games its either because she's super sick or grounded. if she has homework she just does it on the bleachers while bruce's team is in the dugout.

⭑ same thing with bruce, he goes to her softball games and will stay in the softball field after everyone's left to practice batting and shit.

⭑ and when they're both done with their games theyll either go get drinks at the grab n go or get some milkshakes. theres been a time or two when the siblings saw vance playing his pinball machine and amy dared bruce to flirt with vance.

⭑ bruce doesnt back down to no one, so he went up behind vance and complimented his "beautiful ocean eyes". vance stared at bruce like he was a fucking demon and lost his pinball score because he was too busy giving bruce a death glare.

Oc summaries

alright I decided do a mini lore dump of my different characters because my brain wont shut up about them ill put my ramblings under the read more if you want a summary of who exactly are my characters (its the characters ive drawn before and shared here lol) warning it does gets long as I realize each character I wrote a big paragraph explaining each of them lol

Birch: the dude as my profile pic lol. basically had a rough childhood its just him and his dad growing up and to help out for the house he got into sales and realized rich people are stupid and gullible so he got random junk as sold it as the next big thing and it worked. One night at one of the mansions of his rich clients finds this very odd book detailing a ritual of some sort with promises of knowledge and power beyond comprehension. He does the ritual ends up getting in contact with an eldritch being and has his mind (just slightly) broken but got these cool new powers now. He goal is now to go on a search for more information on how to contact these beings again and unlock more of that forbidden fruit (tho more he does it more he starts to turn corrupt its a whole thing) Hes not happy how its changing him physically and mentally but he is too obsessed over his goal. (tho in the campaign im going to play im hoping he learns the power of friendship and he stops before hes too far gone lol) oh yea hes also a warlock forgot to mention it and my fav rn.

Clay. Oh my baby my first dnd character I love her. Shes just a water genasi pirate I know cliche. She had an infamous pirate captain mom named Brooke but her mom settled down for a couple years with this hippy wood elf and she had twins clay and kai. Brooke pulled a parent trap on them where she took one kid and the dad took the other. Clay grew up with her mom and the crew on her ship. Brooke decided she needed to calm down and became a normal shipping company (most of the time there was some pirating aside) This made Clay a very wild child who does everything in the most chaotic way possible. Sadly her mom got deathly ill (she got poisioned) and she died so clay got the ship. She has been traveling around the seas with her crew which is basically her family and keep her moms spirit alive by living like her. She is a bard and loves to make friends everywhere she goes and get what she wants. She is about that grind baby all about da money. Very loud and pushy personality but if you get to know her shes just an excitable puppy who loves her friends so so much.

Kai. The sweeter and gentler of the twins. He grew up in a hippie commune middle of the forest with his dad. however since he was the only genasi there he was often treated differently than the rest. Always seen like an outsider. He became very reserved and recluse and spent most his time in the forest where he became friends with the mushrooms. Making him a druid. The mushrooms formed this symbiote relationship with Kai and now they help each other out and besties. He also is accidentally very morbid now as mushrooms are all about decay Kai is very comfortable with death and does not realize other people arent lol.Kai decided he had spent enough time in the forest and set out to go find his long lost twin that his dad told him about. However he has a difficult time in large crowds and dealing with people and takes a while to find her. When he meets up with clay the two are inseparable and become a very comedic and chaotic duo as both are unhinged on the opposite sides of the spectrum.

Vera. Shes basically the closest thing I have to a mary sue lol but I love her so much my unhinged little mad scientist. Basically grew in a rich family and was the top of her class for math and science. Got into a prestige university where she specialized in chemistry and biochemistry (im not a science major please dont judge my lack of science knowledge lol) and graduated top of her class. She is however a bit of a sadist and very curious so she often makes chemicals and viruses that could destroy humanity if she felt bored enough and likes to test it on anyone whos gullible enough to trust her. She even gets paid often to either make these dangerous chemicals or the cures for some. For her its not about the money its the science behind it. Big party girl loves to go to raves often gets dressed up in the best drip. Is up at ungodly hours chugging monster drinks like it water. You know she has that rgb gamer set up. Tried getting dark vision but her project backfired and now she just has glowing green eyes. (still cant see in the dark tho) just living her best life being a mad scientist and having fun with it despite how often she endangers her life and others lol

Quinn. She is high elf royalty however They hate their family (mostly her parents) so so much so she decides to run off and join the circus. Lol not really but they do become a famous jester who plays for all the royal courts across the lands. While they distract the crowds she likes to steal from them adding to her own collection of riches as a fuck you to their parents. They enjoy putting on performances as well for the children she visits when traveling around. She has a soft spot for kids. Otherwise a very standoffish personality who acts like they are above it all. Even tho she acts like that she is very, very lonely deep down and wishes they had even one friend who has their back. Oh yea absolute bisexual disaster, looses all sense of grace around whoever she finds attractive and becomes a rambling mess. Also she/they nonbinary, they like to fuck with gender presentation as a treat. i havent really fleshed them out more than that so yea lol.

gabriel, oh my poor gabriel I dont think of you that often. Basically hes a victorian british man who was happily married to his wife and was going to be a father but she falls deathly ill and tries to find this "cure(its vampirism)" that could save her, however things goes wrong and he ends up turning a vampire himself and the poor wife dies (no i did not fridge her i promise she has a backstory just im not putting it here) lives in his lonely home for hundreds of years isolated other than when he goes hunting for blood. Mopes around the place most of the time being a sad boy. Finds a vampire cat and now he has a cat. Eventually he finds a fellow vampire widow and they fall in love (I havent fleshed out the other vamp yet) and yea. I am not big into romance so I dont know why I wrote so much for gabriel so I tend to forget him as I dont care too much about his story lol hes mostly there so I can draw blood and cool victorian outfits.

I've been drawing since i was a kid - as my grandma likes to tell it i would sit quietly at the card table next to her and make her draw with me because "everyone can draw, grandma". Sometime around high school i got it into my head that i needed a 'class' to understand anatomy, as if it was just this magical thing i would suddenly understand. (college was useless) The truth is i didnt start getting better until recently, when i gave up trying to 'learn' anatomy and just started studying bodies. That sounds weird, but i don't know how else to describe it? If someone told me ages ago that i could learn anatomy the same way i self-disciplined myself into being able to pull out computer science concepts at the drop of the hat, i feel like i wouldn't have wasted so much time but anyway...

THEN 2017 i lost my job, moved away from pittsburgh, missed my DJ friends, watched a documentary on netflix about st*ve aoki (after watching everything vaguely DJ related on the streaming service lol), and the aoki drawing era begins: freebooter4ever.tumblr.com/archive/tagged/steve%20aoki. I joke that the way I learned anatomy was by becoming obsessed with a DJ who contorts himself into very strange positions and has photographers that take photos of him from LITERALLY every angle and who tends to walk around half naked an unusually large amount of time but like...that's literally what happened. Not that im saying you have to start drawing half naked DJ's...just find a subject you dont mind drawing hours of studies from and it makes it a lot easier.

When I'm doing 'studies' I tend to do two separate drawings. Initially I literally just 'study' what I'm looking at - I put it in photoshop and trace the lines that I see. I don't OUTLINE it, there is a huge difference. A lot of times the lines that stand out are not the outlines but rather a dominant shadow or sharp edge. After I feel like I've got a good handle on it, I do another drawing of the pose freehand. Then I take the original photo and put it underneath that drawing and check where I've messed up. If I'm completely off I throw it away and start again, lol. If there's a few errors I fix them. More and more lately I find that the freehand drawing is fairly accurate with anatomy unless it's an unusual or challenging perspective. Those study drawings rarely see the light of day. I just delete them when I'm done because i didn't have an...aim...? For the drawing. They just were to learn.

The doodles that I post on here? Some of the simpler ones are practice sketches from gifs - i will have a gif running next to my drawing and will try to draw what i see, freehand. Some of the more complicated drawings/portraits are from photos - but there's usually something i see in the photo that i want to convey? Like light? or a specific part of anatomy? I dunno, i make shit up as i go.

AND THEN there's my favorite, when i have done all this practice and i can do shit like drawing characters from my imagination. Like kenny hugging his cat. These don't have any reference - im just relying on my memory of anatomy i've drawn in the past.

I dunno. Dont let bad anatomy get you down, just keep trying. My anatomy hero - a sculptor ethan idolized and i idolize by default - even said himself that he doesn't feel like an 'expert', and he's in his 40's and has been doing this shit for decades. Just draw!!! The more you do it, the more you'll start to see what you like, and how you can make it how you like even more. I still think my anatomy is bad, im still embarrassed by it. But i also know i've gotten better because i can see it now.

ANYWAY this is long, im exhausted, i have to go to bed now :) and i was serious about scheduling an abs livestream. Maybe this weekend if im ambitious.

                                 BUT—how good of a student is Trey, really?

I. PRE-NRU.

Trey Clover has historically had a full plate of expectations, and schoolwork generally took a backseat to any other obligations he had. Trey’s never been a bad student, per say, but an average one: report cards marked with Cs and Bs, graduating square in the middle of his class in high school. His grades did improve marginally during his senior year—he needed to stay competitive for culinary programs, after all—although they were fighting with a persistent bout of senioritis and general life frustration.

Generally, he was well-liked by his teachers and peers, although not particularly noteworthy. While he was part of an after-school soccer club in elementary school, and spent some time in middle school in an academic science club, Trey did not have any extracurriculars to speak of in high school. Instead, his afternoons were spent helping run his family’s patisserie.

II. NIGHT RAVEN UNIVERSITY.

Let it be known that Heartslabyul’s expectations of academic excellence get results: ever since enrolling, Trey’s grades and average have improved, as well as his own study techniques. Let it also be known that he puts in more effort to maintain his grades now, as he’s expected to set a good example. With an occasional C in some areas still exist, he’s a solid B-average student, with As popping up in the classes he’s taken a particular shine to.

III. GENERAL EDUCATION.

ARTS. ★☆☆☆☆

Trey is not terribly good at drawing, and only marginally better at literally painting the roses. He’s never been in any sort of dance lessons, and it definitely shows in his coordination. He does have the potential to improve on the dancing front (see: he DID commit to Starsending) but that is extenuating circumstances. He cannot improvise on dance to save his life. D-.

HISTORY. ★★★☆☆

Excellent at Queendom history—partially because it tends to get drilled into its residents’ heads pretty thoroughly—but sometimes Shaky on everyone else. He finds history classes easy to study for, at least, so he’s rarely ever sweating. B.

LITERATURE. ★☆☆☆☆

Not a writer in the least. Creative writing is a special sort of hell; poetry is near-incomprehensible to him. A fan of reading for pleasure on subjects that interest him, but terrible at keeping his attention on assigned readings. Greatly prefers nonfiction to fiction. F.

MATHEMATICS. ★★★★☆

Finally, a subject that makes sense to him. While not particularly keen on having to do more advanced calculations (no enthusiasm for calculus, for example) algebra and statistics came fairly easily once he learned. A-.

MUSIC. ☆☆☆☆☆

Trey could not carry a tune if you handed him the bucket. F.

PHYSICAL EDUCATION. ★★★☆☆

Actually does enjoy light exercise and moving his body, and secretly has a penchant for team sports. Trey really did enjoy his time on a soccer team. That being said, he tends to not quite click with the more sporty types, and so has never pursued an interest much. B-.

SCIENCES. ★★★★★

What is cooking if not a science, after all? Trey’s always loved his science classes, even more if there’s a lab component. There’s not a single facet that Trey doesn’t find fascinating to some degree, and he took as many as possible throughout his high school career in lieu of other electives. A+.

IV. UNIVERSITY CURRICULUM.

ALCHEMY. ★★★★★

It’s science, with 100% more magic. Trey took to his alchemy classes immediately, eagerly taking as many adjacent electives as allowed. It directly led to him joining the science club as a first year. A+.

ANIMAL LANGAUGES. ★☆☆☆☆

Took as a freshman elective, as caring for the Heartslabyul flamingos and hedgehogs is a task often foisted onto freshman outside of the chore rotation, and he figured it might help. As it turns out, he’s not very good at it, and what he does still understand is generally unkind. The flamingos can be right dicks sometimes. D-.

ANCIENT CURSES. N/A

Never had a chance to take this elective, but he’d be lying if he said he wasn’t a little curious.

ASTROLOGY. ★★☆☆☆

Only taken when Cater is in the class with him. He gets by decently enough, but a lot of the star-reading goes over his head and doesn’t quite click as believable. C-.

BIOLOGY. ★★★★★

It’s fascinating to learn about all the different ways magic can affect living things. A.

CHANGES AND COMPARISON OF ABBREVIATED SPELLS IN ANCIENT AND MODERN MAGIC HISTORY. ★★★☆☆

Trey had no idea what exactly this elective was while making his schedule, but he signed up for it. He’s doing okay. B+.

CONJURATION. ★★★★☆

Occasionally has issues performing high-level conjurings, as there’s a certain amount of imagination and spatial reasoning involved that’s not quite playing to Trey’s strengths, but generally does well. Tends to find the required readings a bit dull. B.

DEFENSE MAGIC. ★★★★☆

His personal specialty when it comes to combat-focused spells. Rarely any issues, but not the best in his class. B+/A-.

HISTORY OF MAGIC. ★★★★☆

Threw himself into this class freshman year to try and keep up with more magically-inclined peers. A lot of overlap with general education curriculum, so easy enough, but magical history classes tend to be lowest on the priority of homework, and so sometimes last-minute rushing is necessary. B.

PRACTICAL MAGIC. ★★★★★

Admittedly a large learning curve for him, but once he learned the fundamentals, it’s become easy. Trey has a particular finesse to guiding his magic, now, and while he doesn’t show it off often, he’s gotten very good at doing rather delicate work with magic. A.

MAGIC ANALYSIS. ★★★☆☆

Some of the higher-level classes have been a struggle, but generally he’s passing. The writing component to these classes is endlessly frustrating to him. B-/C+.

PHYSICAL EDUCATION. ★★★★☆

Taking flying as his PE credit. Actually pretty good at it, but finds Coach Vargas more than a little annoying, so tries to downplay his talents. B-.

POTIONOLOGY. ★★★★☆

Deeply enjoys experimenting with potionology, but ultimately his magical science pursuits are elsewhere, and so tends to not experiment too wildly. B+.

POISON MAKING. N/A

Kind of sad he didn’t take poison making, it sounds like a great class.

Wow did September really just fly by like that? Feels like just 2 weeks ago I was doing this for August but heres my self accountability post for the end of the 9th month of 2022

Lets start with the ol resale business. Historical Days was a big success. I got rid of a lot of my old stock from the shed and made a nice profit on the weekend. Really wish I could get to more festivals and markets. That was a goal for this year that I am failing at. eBay had gone cold since the first week of September but I had 3 sales this week. With 4th quarter starting now hopefully it will be getting even better. I learned a lot last week at eBay open, lets see if I can transform that into sales. I also am looking into a booth at a local flea market that is open on Fridays. Possibly going to open there in November. Its a risk and a big step but it just may be time.

Classes started Monday in my Ag science and organic growing classes. Its been a challenge this week but I feel im back in the flow. I even got my first week assignment done early, y'all know thats a big one for me.

Things around the Homestead are winding down into what I refer to as hibernation time. The garden is ready to be put to bed, hopefully I get to that nexg week. Pears and apples need picked. Gotta dig potatoes yet and see how that harvest is. Lots of little things but its about over.

I didn't have a single Wrestling show this month. We did do our company picnic last Saturday but besides that nothing. The quiet is killing me. October has a couple but November is really bare. Gotta do something about this.

My TV back log has gotten worse. Im weeks behind on Wrestling. Its really ridiculous lol. I haven't watched any of She-Hulk or House Of Dragons. Seems everyday I add on another episode or 5 of the network shows that I try to catch as much of as possible like FBI or Law & Order. I haven't even seen the new Thor yet. I am caught up on Andor of course and am still working through my rewatch of Fear the walking dead. For someone that completely cut the cord this list is nuts!

Speaking of cutting the cord lets discuss my "off grid" life as it is. So many projects and ideas I had for the summer went unstarted. I really had hoped to have a little wood stove set up but not even close. I did get a bucket washing machine built for hand washing and of course my water collection system grew nicely. But still im way behind even though im far better than I was last year at this time.

My health has been good and ive really been doing well at eating. Im near my calorie goal almost everyday. Cooler weather really helps as does less time spent working outside. Now to finally start regular workouts again.

With just a month to go its time to start really planning and working on the upcoming holiday season here and at the Santa House. All while trying to enjoy spooky season too. Its a juggling act sometimes.

The personal life thing is pretty much as wacky as always. Mom and Dad have both been doing good. Dad has a bum shoulder but he says it is feeling a little better. Tyler has been coming around a little bit more now that he has Whiskey to take out. She sure is a cutie and becoming a good pal of mine. I been thinking again about a new cat or dog. Maybe near Christmas? My special person and myself have had a difficult time of getting together. Always seems to be something come up. Its hard with busy lives and a bit of a distance between us. We have plans for next Saturday so hopefully.... It was great to hang out with the Wrestling family last week, tomorrow I get more of that plus the Town Meeting crew. Having a small social life is sad at times but it makes me enjoy it more when it happens. A goal for 2023 is more interaction with friends and family and less alone time!

Cryptolalia - Tethered transportation

these kinds of blogs about Cryptolalia will eventually go on my website, but i dont have a dedicated hub on my site yet for OC/story stuff yet so.

but yea anyways, i dont want to be hiding all my brainstorming behind patreon (if i ever go into proper production w something like a comic etc then yes) and i thought itd be nice to just throw down all my current exploding ideas.

I have many many things on my mind but for some reason one of the things ive developed most through my last recent years of thinking is transportation infrastructure & vehicles in Cryptolalia. Remember that this story is based on Earth, and is basically like... “ideal changes” and alternate timeline nonsense of what we currently have. The first thing I wanted to make strikingly different in the world was transportation, since the changes that happen in the timeline are old enough that the course of history regarding cars could be totally different. SO lets get into it!

(do note im not super knowledgeable on logic of science and cars and stuff, a lot of this is my own theories and fun for just having a futuristic and alternate Earth setting)

I would love to draw these out at some point too, but I am so not into vehicle design... so idk when that may happen.

But anyways, I have come up with various ideas regarding transportation in this world, mostly out of spite for what we have on Earth in regards to roads and parking lots. The Earth has basically been molded by Elias, using his own knowledge of “ideal” into Earth's progression. Not everything will be perfect, but lots of changes to infrastructure on Earth were made by Elias ages ago based off what his race has done across multiple generations on various planets.

All vehicles are electric. Or “electric” as in using power from the power source that runs the whole planet (its not electricity but you know what I mean ok). They are often referred to as “tethered vehicles” not just due to their energy source, but also due to the fact they are in a sense, literally tied to something. “tethered” means that the vehicle is on a track of some kind that transfers the energy needed to travel, directly into the vehicle itself. Untethered vehicles exist, but need a specific license to be driven, and all vehicles that are off-track are recorded through an online system. While airplanes and boats exist they are few and more often for transporting goods than people, and are not 'tethered'- meaning most individuals wouldn't likely be using them either due to license (which is different due to being air and water vehicles).

There are two classes of vehicles- individual and community. They are self explanatory... Community vehicles are subways and trains, which transport groups of people and are purely focused on that. Subways and trains are the most common and even have tunnels built underground or in the ocean.

Individual vehicles are for one or two people at most. They are intended for all purposes (work, travel, leisure) and run on similar tracks as the subways and trains- but due to their compact sizes, they are capable of traveling faster, on smaller tracks that weave through locations otherwise inaccessible by large community ones. These vehicles are often seen as high class due to their cost, as many wouldn't care to own one if they are simply going to work or through the city- which is why most if not all individual vehicles are untethered as well, meaning most who own one must have a license for it. But tethered ones exist, and are often much more lightweight and cheaper.

Individual vehicles due to their small size, are often motorcycles and four or three wheeled light utility vehicles (LUVs, also known as ATVs)- but private boats and planes exist as well if you're especially wealthy. Being capable of untethered driving means they are most often capable of off-road driving on rougher terrain. Still, drivers are permitted to certain locations and could be greatly fined for driving in areas they are not allowed. They are most often used by those who work nontraditional jobs that require work out in the land, or by upper class working individuals wanting a free road all to themselves. They can and are often rented to those who work jobs out in the wilderness or away from the city, purely for work purposes.

Road safety & laws are similar to ours but differing to suit this alternate world. Tethered and untethered individual vehicles have different licenses, while all classes of vehicles to as well (land, air, sea, and freight specific trains). The licenses for tethered and untethered are separate and must be kept on the person at all times.

Laws are not all universal, and may be different to accommodate for culture or specifics regarding the country's terrain or infrastructure- but one law across the world is that once a citizen's age reaches the maturity equivalent of 70 human years they must be thoroughly tested on their health and retested if they have an individual license. They must retest for an untethered license, and if they are allowed to operate a such a vehicle after passing, they will face harsher penalties for errors and have it revoked for good if they run into issues in the future.

Tethered lines for vehicles to travel on are considered for safety above all, but cut back on the need for parking lots. Yes, while individual vehicles would expect to take up space, they are logged in a system to be tracked even when going off road. Stations exist that these vehicles must be stored at in order for the user's vehicle status to stay consistent (and to not be fined, or have their license revoked) which are located at the same hubs at which trains and subways are- or or for smaller tracks, along sidewalks. Additionally, some work places have their own small storage hubs for storing these vehicles and logging their status.

Undoubtedly, their storage exists and takes up some space, but the system never allowed for cars, trucks, and larger vehicles to exist in the same way, thus cutting down greatly on wasted space. They are built to be compact and small, and due to the cost of them and the requirements, they aren't as common as most would assume. It is very much the norm to take a train or subway overall, especially for travel within the cities themselves. They are incredibly accessible and the world is heavily built around them.

Design & style of vehicles are often sleek, futuristic. This will no doubt be different across the world, some places consistently of old models or styles while others are more up to date. But within the immediate city Cryptolalia is based in, smoothed out futuristic shapes with white-heavy color choices are common. For those more accustomed to off-roading though, vehicles may show more of the 'guts' in order to not struggle with terrain and allow easy access to maintenance. Untethered off road vehicles will also have slots for extra power, which are shaped like discs, that are found at docking stations (or purchased and charged at home). Trains and subways are just as if not more smooth in shape, fitting right into the tunnels they travel through.

That is like, all I can grab from my brain right now. There is likely more im just forgetting but id be glad to answer any questions poking at the details of this!

Overall my intention is to have a world that has gone very.. idealistically futuristic-- but you'll see those bits about being tracked, and some of the strictness with untethered vehicles. Those aren't intended to be purely good things either. This version of Earth is heavily controlled, even if many parts of it include me inserting my “ideal” concepts, like no parking lots and good subways infrastructure.

Week 1: Vítej doma (welcome home)

Dobrý den! Čau všichni, (Good day! Hello everyone,)

Orientation + Czech History

After our arrival on Monday, our IFSA program held orientation this past Tuesday and Wednesday. It mainly focused on the rich history of the Czech Republic, Czech cultural differences, and our expectations for this semester. The head of IFSA Prague introduced us to Václav Havel, the last leader of Czechoslovakia and the First President of the Czech Republic after the dissolution of Czechoslovakia and the downfall of Communism in the region. In one of his interviews, Havel states, “Hope is not the conviction that something will go well, but it’s the certainty that something has meaning regardless of how it works out.” This resonated with me going into this semester abroad because I cannot comprehend what I will learn nor the experiences I will have, but I have faith in the fact that they will meaningfully shape the person I will be in a few months. 

We also got to explore the Staré Město (Old Town) on a guided walking tour. Our group started on the Charles Bridge, the oldest stone bridge in Europe built under the direction of King Charles IV to replace the old Judith Bridge which had been washed away by floods. Its gothic style meets the baroque style buildings and architecture that make up Prague. The bridge has tons of statues depicting saints and symbols of Christian faith, as pictured below in the bottom row.

We then made our way to the Old town Square, in which the Jan Hus Memorial stands. Hus was an infamous Czech rebel whose preachings and beliefs criticized the Catholic Church; his death set off a religious, political, and social revolution in Bohemia which fuelled the Protestant Reformation in Europe. The statue depicts the victorious Protestants who were forced into exile during the Thirty Years' War, and a young mother who symbolizes national rebirth. From this statue, there is an incredible view of the gothic Church of Mother of God before Týn (top left picture).

Finally, we got to see the medieval astronomical clock (The Orloj) attached to the Old Town Hall in Prague, which is one of 3 remaining clocks like it in the world. It shows the relative positions of the Sun, Moon, Earth, and Zodiac constellations, while also telling the time and date. The Orloj is pictured in the center of the top row.

School

IFSA holds school in Vila Grébovka (pictured below) which has an amazing view of the city. 

After orientation, we had a slightly stressful period of add/drop. I was originally placed into the required classes that satisfy the Engineering MDE requirements: Leadership Development in the Tech Sector, Tech Ethics & Public Policy, Communications for the Tech Sector, and Essential Czech. I was also placed in Architecture and Design, which counts towards my international minor and seems like an extremely interesting class. These five classes came out to 12 credits, but I added Database Management Systems, a ULCS Computer Science course offered that will transfer back as an ULCS. To get an idea of how much in-class time I will spend, see my finalized class schedule for the week below:

Since I am in the College of Engineering, our classes transfer back as P/F, which is different from my friends in LSA, but their MDE/Capstone requirements do not include Tech Ethics & Public Policy nor Communications for the Tech Sector. We use Canvas as our main learning platform, which is nice because it’s familiar, but we had to create new accounts separate from the UMich portal. Classes start this upcoming week so workload details will be included in my next blog :)

Transportation 

We were required to purchase the PID pass for tram, metro (subway), and buses, which allow us to get anywhere in the city in no more than 25 minutes! It cost $65 for the 3 month pass which is incredibly worth it, especially because the public transportation system here is extremely reliable and punctual. You don’t have to scan anything at a tram stop or a train station to get on, but every once in a while a guard will come up to you and show their badge, which is them asking to see your pass. If you don’t have a pass or it’s not properly activated, you will get a fine of around $15. To be honest, the process is pretty intimidating since they don’t always speak English.

We’ve been walking a ton as well, and I’ve averaged over 15,000 steps this past week. What I did not expect was how hilly Prague is; I climbed 54 flights today according to my health app!

Housing Accommodations

Our housing accommodations are split up into two buildings for our entire program of ~80 students. My building holds 12 students: one female apartment of 6 and one male apartment of 6. Students could request a shared room or a single for an extra $500. I requested a shared room because I don’t mind living with other roommates, but I got assigned a single which is honestly pretty nice. Below I’ve included details and pictures of our apartment so you can have an idea of what the accommodations look like:

1 full bathroom with a bath, toilet, and sink

1 half bathroom with a toilet

1 half bathroom with a shower and sink

1 kitchen / living room:

Appliances: toaster, electric stovetop, oven, small dishwasher, small washing machine, fridge, freezer, microwave

Dishware: silverware, cups, plates, bowls, wine glasses, pots, pans, skillets

A balcony connected to one of the bedrooms (for air drying laundry)

Weather

The weather here has been pretty consistently cloudy, foggy, and windy, but the sun usually peeps out for a couple hours around noon which is nice. I haven’t figured out which jackets to wear to be comfortable throughout the entire day, but I typically wear my trench coat since it’s chilly in the mornings (~40 degrees fahrenheit) and then take it off in the afternoon once it reaches 50 degrees. A much more mild winter than Ann Arbor.

Food + Nightlife

Food and drinks are two of the things that attract many people to Prague, and I now understand why. There are TONS of high quality and authentic food options, ranging from classic Czech and Western European cuisine to Asian dishes like ramen and pho. One thing I find super interesting is that after Czechs, Slovaks and Ukrainians, the Vietnamese are the largest community in the Czech Republic. This is because the communist Vietnamese government allowed its citizens to settle in the socialist Czechoslovakia (later turned communist) for education and work training in the 20th century. 

Restaurant culture is slightly different than in the US. People usually tip 10% for good service, but it’s socially acceptable to not tip at all, especially if the service was poor. When the waiter or waitress comes at the beginning of the meal, you typically put your whole order in. They come to the table pretty quickly and are not very patient so be prepared to order! When done with your meal, you can signify to the restaurant staff that you’re done by aligning your silverware together on your plate and they will come and take it. If you’re not done eating yet and your silverware is in that formation, they still may come and take it so be mindful of that.

The bars are super lively, and many have a cool story behind them. I’ve been in WWII bunkers, 15th century pubs, speakeasies, and more! It’s safe to walk and take public transportation at night, and there’s a quiet curfew where you can’t be loud or obnoxious on the street past 10pm or you will get fined; it makes for a pretty peaceful environment.

Cultural Differences

Most stores and restaurants close before 9pm (besides bars)

The majority of the Czech population is atheist, agnostic, or apatheist, due to the religious conflicts that make up its history (read above in the Orientation + Czech History section)

The average alcohol consumption for adults in the Czech republic is 600L / year, so there is a very large drinking culture

Prague is a very lively city and there are a lot of public meetups between friends and colleagues, but Czech homes are (pretty strictly) for family.

The Czech Republic is small! The population of the Czech Republic is 10.5 million, and the population of Prague is 1.3 million. For comparison, New York City’s population is nearing 8.5 million!

Mini Excursion: Prague Castle

We visited Prague Castle for our first mini excursion and bought the Basic Circuit entry ticket for students for $5 (need to show your MCard). This gave us access to the Old Royal Palace, St. George‘s Basilica, St Vitus Cathedral, and Golden Lane. We spent around 2 hours there, exploring the castle gardens and views, as well as the rich history of the Hapsburgs and other leaders that ruled from this castle.

As per usual, I’m going to share a couple of ins (things that are working) and outs (things that have caused me some trouble) for this past week.

Ins:

Public Transportation: get anywhere in Prague within 25 minutes! Punctual, reliable, and easy to use.

Announcing your entry / leave: In Czech culture, it’s customary and polite to greet employees when entering a store or restaurant by saying “Dobrý den!” (Hello!) and let them know you’re leaving by saying “Na shledanou!” (Bye!)

Google Shared Albums: we’ve been taking tons of pictures and shared albums make it much easier to ensure everyone has access to them! 

Google Translate: most people (especially retail or restaurant employees) speak some English, but you cannot expect any labeling of food or other items in store to be in English.

Outs:

Carrying my passport / ID / cards on me: You don’t want to lose these! I have a photocopy of my Passport that I keep on me and I have not had trouble getting into bars/clubs with this form of ID. I just turned 21 so I only have a paper ID and I have been laughed at the two times I’ve presented it, so the passport photocopy is the move… 

Slezská Housing: Our housing is slightly isolated from the other people in our program, which makes it difficult to meet everyone, but also for going out and more importantly, not having to walk home alone.

English: One of the most respectful things you can do when moving here is to try and adapt to their culture and customs; speaking just a little bit of Czech goes a long way here! Simply greeting people and saying please and thank you in Czech has made locals super kind to me as a visitor.

sans IS gaster (OR the sans theory masterpost pt. 2)

Previously, we discussed: Sans and his hand in the destruction of a world, his connection to Ice-E and Deltarune, and how he relates to Gaster. We’re going to continue the thread we left off on.

Section III - Gaster (Cont.)

Snails are mentioned too many times throughout Undertale for them to not be of any significance. As it turns out, they are pretty important in unraveling the mystery behind Gaster and Sans.

When you enter the area with Napstablook’s snail farm, you’ll notice that Sans’s theme is playing despite him not making an appearance. 

In one of Papyrus’s phone calls, he mentions that Sans recently bought snail-shaped pasta and says “He’ll probably fill them with hotdogs and slime.” Toriel also owns a book called “72 User for Snails”. Track 72 in the Undertale OST is “Song That Might Play When You Fight Sans”. That’s multiple times that Sans is likened to snails. 

Snails belong under the taxonomic class Gastropoda. Gasterpods.

These long pauses between words and phrases are not unlike how Gaster speaks.

Now. Let’s move on.

Mus_smile is the track that plays in room_gaster. This is my personal opinion, but the character that is the most strongly associated with smiles is Sans.

And Sans is certainly intelligent enough to be the prime suspect for being Gaster. The proper name for his namesake is Comic Sans Microsoft, or Comic Sans MS. MS can also be used as a suffix for the name of a person who has a degree in a Master of Science.

Sans also owns quantum physics books. The subject of Gaster’s scientific research is revealed in Entry #17: “photon readings negative”. Photons are described as a "quantum" of electromagnetic energy, and are of course within the realm of study under quantum physics.

Gaster, like Sans, is brilliant yet slow-working. Slower than Alphys, who is repeatedly noted to have nothing to show yet as the royal scientist in the eyes of the people and is shown to slack off constantly.

Gaster is implied to have perished, and I suppose he did, in a way, if these speculations do end up being correct. However, there’s something more to this statement. Ghosts are sort of in the realm of being not-alive, and Sans and Napstablook have a surprising level of comparability.

They both:

Get likened to “garbage”

Have connections to snails (Napstablook runs the snail farm)

Speak completely in lower case

Pretend to sleep and say “Z’s” out loud

Have black “sclera”

And the black sclera is also a topic of its own; it’s equated with the status of being brought back to life. Being “determined”. (See: Asriel and Undyne)

Undyne is especially suspect due to the strange right-eye-phenomenon she has in common with Sans, with spears shooting out of hers. Spears that are actually colored light blue, not unlike Sans’s eye. 

To recap: 

Sans and Gaster are heavily involved in Deltarune

They have been displaced from time and space

They have connections to snails

They are both doctors with knowledge in quantum physics

They both “fell” into the abyss

They both talk similarly

They are both slow

They are both characterized by their smile

They are both some degree of dead

Sans is Gaster or a significant piece of him. Sans has Gaster Blasters because they belong to him. If all prior conjecture proves true, he is and will be responsible for the destruction of a world or THE world within Deltarune. After all, the Latin definitions of “gaster” and “sans” are to destroy and to be without, respectively. 

That brings us to the next subject: why is Sans Sans? More specifically, why is that his name? Why even change his name?

Below is the Japanese version of the fun event with Sans’s phone call. It features completely different dialogue from its English counterpart. 

Am I Licca-chan? (Select No) Then from now on call me Sans. I need to check every once in a while. I won’t know when my name has changed. 

“Licca-chan” is a well-known Barbie-esque dress-up doll in Japan, so popular to the point where it is even used as a synonym for other dolls from different companies. Perhaps it implies that Sans is adaptable due to Licca-chan’s nature as a doll and how she is in a constant state of change to reflect the times. It also seems to be a pun on “liquor” because Sans was talking about beer in the English version. I tried to scour the Japanese fandom for clues, but they also seemed stumped. If anyone has any ideas on what this could mean, please let me know!

Regardless, “Sans” doesn’t seem to be his actual name. Perhaps his true name was Gaster...?

Additionally, If the player changes the name of the fallen child via going into the code, this message appears in the stats menu. The vernacular is very Sans-like, with his frequent use of question tags at the end of his sentences (I counted 14 huh’s from Sans).

Finally, let’s talk about the number six. We know that it’s Gaster’s number--All of the explicitly Gaster-related fun events trigger for fun values in the sixties, Gaster’s stats are all comprised of 6′s, Gaster’s “typer-value” is 666--you get the idea.

The concept art Toby drew for the Alarm Clock’s character screen features what is presumably Sans and the number six.

“The Choice”--the track that plays during Sans’s judgements--is “Undertale” slowed down by 666%.

Section IV - Angels and Demons (The “Why”)

In modern day culture, 666 is closely associated with the devil. The Book of Revelation (13:17-18) asserts that 666 is “the number of a man” (this is important, and we’ll come back to it later) and is “the number of the Beast”. The Beast is mentioned as “coming out of the abyss”. 

Sounds a lot like someone else we know, doesn’t it? And how fitting for Sans, the one who judges our sins and demands us “to burn in hell”.

But if we go further, the Beast of Revelation is described to have seven heads representing seven kings. The beast itself is an eighth king who is of the seven and "was and is not and shall ascend out of the bottomless pit, and go into perdition." 

Chara is an eighth of the seven fallen children. 

There’s something Chara, Sans, and Gaster all share, and it’s their association with demons.

Here is an excerpt from the Cutting Room Floor:

Among the four strings in version 1.0, the last one, designated by variable “demond”, stands out for two reasons. 

 The letter “d” is separate from the other letters denoting the demon variables--the rest, “x”, “y”, and “z” are in sequential alphabet order.

The speech pattern of the last string is different from the others. It has that signature question tag at the end of the sentence that a certain character is known for.

In version 1.001, the strings clearly reflect Chara’s speech pattern. This time, all the variables are in sequential order from “a” to “d”. 

Pieces of dialogue at the near-end of a genocide route from Chara and Sans. Recall that Chara is using the same “Now” from earlier with Gaster and Sans.

Chara makes a reference to Banana Yoshimoto's book “Kitchen”. Take note of the page number.

Chara is also linked to the number nine. It’s the highest achievable stat in-game. It’s the stat of the locket and real knife. It’s how much damage Chara deals. It’s also the number six flipped upside down. 

The connections are undeniable. 

And yet, it goes further. Let’s take a look at how Christmas comes in to play.

In Deltarune, there are a few references to it, the most foremost probably being the importance of Noelle Holiday as a character. We also get Lancer’s laugh and the joke with “Krismas”.

Back to Undertale, there is significant Christmas iconography represented by “Gyfmas” and Gyftrot (bearing a strong resemblance to Photoshop Flowey, the DT Extractor, and Gaster Blasters).

What I’d like to focus on is Santa.  Papyrus describes him as “a chubby, smiling man who loves to surprise people.” From the thank you note addressed to Santa we find in Sans’s room, we can assume that Sans is a Santa, at least to Papyrus. It’s pretty fitting, since Sans can be described as someone who “knows if [we’ve] been bad or good”. Maybe he can even tell if we’re sleeping or awake with how the Dark World appears to be linked with sleep and dreams (please read my theory on Sans being a Darkner for more on this).

So we can reasonably conclude that Sans presents himself as a friendly, child-oriented figure, in-line with the nature of Comic Sans, a font for children, and Ice-E, a mascot of a company marketed towards children.

To recap: Gaster’s association with the number 666 marks him as a “demon”. Chara and Sans are also called demons and similarly have connections to the number 6. This is more evidence that Gaster and Sans is or used to be the same people, and Chara has some form of correspondence with them.

I failed to mention before that there is actually a second Beast of Revelation “from the Earth” with "two horns like a lamb”. From the “earth” like Flowey, with horns like Asriel. 

Asriel is most likely the “Angel” depicted in the prophecy within the scope of Undertale; he’s named similarly to Azrael, an angel of death, and one of his attacks is literally called “Angel of Death”. He also bears a striking resemblance to the Deltarune in his God of Hyperdeath form.

Surprise, surprise, he and Sans also share parallels. 

Let’s start with their introductions. “Flowey the flower”. “Sans the skeleton”. It’s a similarly alliterative greeting and they’re both using fake names.

These three characters--Sans/Gaster, Chara, and Flowey/Asriel--they have all fallen. Gaster fell into his creation. Chara fell into the Underground. Asriel had “fallen down”. (Sans and Papyrus are also the only sibling pair other than Chara and Asriel. I won’t talk about Papyrus in this part though because this thing is shaping up to be too long already.)

What does this mean for Sans? I have a personal theory.

Above the entryway of the Judgement Hall, there is a reversed Deltarune. The triangles are inverted and the wings are more bat-like. In the room where only Sans appears, the same room that plays a version of “Undertale” slowed down 666%.

I think Sans is a candidate for the Angel prophesized to destroy the world in Deltarune. I think he is Sans Serif, a seraph. He fell into his experiment and became a “fallen” angel, a demon. 

The Angel’s Heaven mentioned alongside, on the other hand...  Heaven can also be used to refer to God. Dog is an anagram of God. 

Sans has many, many connections with dogs, especially one Annoying Dog. More on this next time.

Lyme disease is relevant. We’ve been told for years by scientists that Lyme disease is spreading into new areas, because as the climate changes, more local ecosystems become conducive to the spread. In other words: the ticks will find a broader base to breed, grow and infect. So, here’s the story about vaccines, which, by the way, have been around for a while. This story tells us why the vaccine wasn’t use more broadly. You get one guess, and the hint is the phrase started with “anti-” 

Excerpt from this story from The New Yorker:

There used to be a Lyme vaccine—and then, in a rare occurrence in modern medicine, it disappeared. LYMErix was a three-dose regimen for humans brought to market about twenty years ago by SmithKline Beecham, the precursor to the pharmaceutical giant GlaxoSmithKline. It prompted the making of bacteria-neutralizing antibodies in a person’s blood, so that when a tick bit, the Lyme pathogens it was harboring would be killed before they could cause an infection. It was a novel approach: essentially, the vaccine acted inside the tick, not its human host. Following a successful Phase III clinical trial of nearly eleven thousand subjects that showed a seventy-six-per-cent reduction in Lyme disease incidence with no significant side effects, the Food and Drug Administration approved it in December, 1998. The C.D.C. gave LYMErix the so-called permissive recommendation, meaning that the vaccine was advised only for people who were at risk, not the general population. (This was in contrast to vaccines for diseases such as rubella and polio, that affect the population at large.) By 2001, about a million and a half doses had been distributed. The next year, though, GlaxoSmithKline abandoned LYMErix, citing poor sales. Since then, the only Lyme preventatives on the market are for dogs and cats.

How a vaccine that had gone through years of development and testing ended up with such a short shelf life is a cautionary tale with an unlikely villain: people who themselves were suffering from Lyme disease. A number of scientists I talked with who had worked on LYMErix told me that it had succumbed to a trifecta of pernicious events: some people who had received the vaccine came to believe that it caused arthritis, a complaint that was never medically proved but embraced by a vocal cohort of “long-haul” Lyme-disease sufferers and amplified in the press; a snide assessment by a member of a C.D.C. advisory panel, who called LYMErix a “yuppie vaccine” for people who “will pay a lot of money for their Nikes”; and the fact that consumers have the right to sue the makers of “permissive” vaccines.

A half-dozen class-action lawsuits against GlaxoSmithKline, later consolidated into a single suit, were filed on behalf of “vaccine victims,” who claimed that the company had withheld evidence of the Lyme vaccine’s dangers. It’s a position that Lorraine Johnson, the C.E.O. of LymeDisease.org, a patient-advocacy group, continues to hold. “I think the manufacturer was facing a class-action lawsuit, and so part of what they were doing was likely defensive, to protect their legal position,” she said. “And just shutting down the trial, before you disclose Phase IV data, would be a way of limiting the data that could be used against them.” (A Phase IV clinical trial is conducted after a medication is released to study its longer-term risks and benefits. GlaxoSmithKline researchers later made public their findings from the truncated Phase IV study, showing no difference in the rate of adverse reactions between vaccine recipients and the control group.)

looking for readers for a project

now that I dont have school to worry about I’m gonna try and get the first draft of my next thing out. last time I just uploaded the chapters online as I went but this time Ive decided to keep it to just a select few ‘alpha readers’ who will also just function as a way of motivation just to make sure I meet deadlines I set cause if I do it myself then I just ignore all deadlines. 

so if anyone wants to read each chapter as it comes out and give feedback (or not, u can also just read it) I would be very appreciative. Its probably gonna be pretty long cause I 100% have an over-writing problem with first drafts. 

the project is Young Man’s Game. It’s ish (ish) similar to kkc but about 300 times more gay and the setting is based on middle eastern, northern african, and mediterranean cultures. I’ll put a longer description under the cut.

I’m considering giving any readers, who stick through to the end and give feedback, a piece of art as a thank you. I’d do every chapter but....like I said. over-writing problem.

Okay so the first chapter, which I already have finished, is going to come off as a lot more similar to kkc than the series actually is. mainly cause it’s setting up exposition and setting and I came up with the idea while smack in the middle of my kkc phase lol.

Heres a very short little blurb I wrote about it ages ago:

Odrad and Sheiro have been at war for generations. Now, in a time of tense armistice, Mila is summoned to a university to learn to control the rare ability she was born with, the ability to forge facets. Paired with a mentor, the bizarre Ardev Kallas, she must adjust to her new life as a forger. But disaster seems to loom as the nations look for any excuse to fight, and Ardev is not who he says he is. Is everything she was taught about the war a lie?

The plot for the first book at least (probably going to be at least two) is fairly...fluid. Basically just Mila trying to adjust and learn and a whole lot of ‘fuck around and find out’. It explores prejudice and corrupt governments and identity and ‘war bad’ and all sorts of fun stuff. It's very character based since I’m a character bitch but I’m doing my best to keep the plot and pacing good as well. 

Rating would be R for sure. There’s a lot of swearing, some violence/brutality but I don't tend to go for too much gore. It will have some heavy topics (child abuse, sexual assault, etc) but most of that is stuff in characters pasts so it’s more talked about among them rather than actually Described. I also don't like writing explicit sex scenes so anything along those lines is more of a fade to black situation. 

I can add any content warnings to each chapter if you wish.

Setting is fantasy with low magic. Forging is akin to bending from ATLA or naming in KKC, with a touch of sympathy cause I’m a slut for science and my magic must have rules. Like I said above, it's based on northern african, middle eastern, and mediterranean cultures. However more in aesthetic than values (basically just...warm setting, no trees, how do buildings and clothes and stuff evolve in these conditions). I do my best to be fairly original with stuff like religion and values. Very little sexism. Women and men are viewed differently but not “men are better”

Queerness: the setting does have some homophobia but that's cause I’m ghey and like writing ghey characters saying ‘fuck what u think’. But it's kinda more like Mila is from buttfuck nowhere in the bible belt (and...doesn't have access to internets) and moves to fuggin san francisco and is like O.O and also all the characters are queer. 

Lastly I do have some chapters finished. I will be using google classroom (lol yes google classroom) to distribute to ppl and get feedback. If you aren’t sure if you would like to or not I can give you just the links for the first two or so, so you can get a feel without actually being added into my ‘class’.

Deep in the Strangerville Desert lies a derelict plane, left exposed to the elements since it crashed there of unknown causes over fifty years ago. The rusted remains of sun-bleached metal hide a dark secret, however… deep beneath the wreck lies a massive complex filled with dastardly tasks meant to challenge our contestants to determine- through luck and sheer force of will- which one is worthy of the title of Last Sim Standing.

But more on the compound later. Just what is it these sims are competing for?

It’s not just glory that awaits them, though that would definitely be enough of a prize on its own. The winner will also receive §1,000,000 (tax-free!), a lavishly furnished mansion in Del Sol Valley, and the chance to live out their lives as they see fit in the background of a frequently played save file. What more could a sim ask for? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

1: Mimi LeBeurre​

Mimi is a neat, erratic foodie with a passion for baking. Don’t let her sweet looks fool you though… not all who have tasted her goodies survived it… She’s a tough cookie and ready to rock this challenge!

2: Penelope Garcia

Her official title is “Technical Analyst”, but some say her talents are better suited to more… anonymous pursuits. Under the alias “The Black Queen” she used her hacking skills to reroute millions of dollars from shady off-shore corporate accounts into the coffers of charities and non-profits. Some call her a modern-day Robin Hood, but they don’t know about the hundreds of thousands she skimmed to line her own pockets (and fund her obsessive Funko Pop collection)… She managed to avoid jail-time by becoming a consultant for the FBI, and now uses her skills to track down and convict cyber criminals just like herself. She’s become the thing she once hated most, but she seems totally fine with that.

3: Rufus Dunbrow​

If there’s a health fad out there, Rufus was probably a part of it at one point. Juicing? Been there. Enemas? He’s had so many he’s lost a lot of feeling down there and now needs to wear adult diapers to bed. Detoxifying, cleansing, miracle pills, homeopathic cure-alls, IV “therapies”… he’s done it all, so much so that if he donated his body to science they’d probably turn it down.

It may be obvious, but he’s obsessed with his body image. This has lead him in recent years to start working out; a noble goal, except the results weren’t as instantaneous as he would have liked. So, he got a little help from a friend- and their magic syringe filled with steroids, hormones, and other chemicals- to help him instantly “bulk up”.

He probably couldn’t lift a baby if you asked him, but hey, at least he looks good. He spends his time strutting around trying to pick people up at the beach in Del Sol Valley. He’s rarely successful, but that doesn’t stop him from trying. Who wouldn’t want a ride on the Dunbrow Train to Boneville?

4: Kristie Sewell​

This is Kristie. She’s a “famous” simstagram model who thinks the world revolves around her and she’s allowed to do anything just because she has a couple followers. Her traits are snob, mean and jealous and she really acts like it!

She’s a vegan but doesn’t realize that vegans shouldn’t wear real fur, she also eats chicken because it’s “not real meat”. She wears dreads and will bring up vikings when you try to educate her about cultural appropriation. She also wears a saree as formal wear because her simdian yoga guru said “You can wear anything you want!” and she didn’t realize he meant she could wear any athletic wear for the yoga class.

She uses slurs on the regular and if you call her out on any of this? She will post a teary-eyed snapchat non-apology rant and if you don’t accept that as an apology she’ll claim that you’re just jealous of her.

This is Jacob. How to describe him? An outdoor enthusiast, avid mountaineer, kombucha master, possibly a serial killer…

Well, many who have gone mountain climbing with him have never returned. He claims it’s just a coincidence, but locals think differently.

Who knows, maybe all the hardships of this challenge will loosen his lips, and he will confess his crimes.

6: Monica Rawls

Monica always loved animals. Growing up on a farm in the boonies meant she was always surrounded by them. Whenever she found a sick or injured animal she would bring it home and beg her parents to let her nurse it back to health. Despite her good intentions, however, few of her charges ever made a full recovery… and being a good farmer’s daughter, she always thought: “Why let them go to waste?” 🤔

Nowadays she self-publishes a cookbook on how to make that perfect “Memorial Meal” for your pet- after they’ve passed, of course. From Parakeet Parmesan to Rotisserie Horse Legs, she’s got you covered for when the only way to move on from the loss of your pet is to make them into a Grand Meal worth remembering.

7: Kellissa Miller​

Kelly Miller always thought she was too good for college. So, she dropped out, changed her name to Kellissa - with two L’s and two S’s, she’ll get mad if you misspell it - and went to pursue her true goal: being famous. She’s tried some acting, singing, playing instruments, but so far nothing. It’s not only the lack of talent: surprisingly, she’s quite a decent musician, but her personality… Oh, she’s rally nice and friendly. As long as you don’t stand in her spotlight. You DO NOT wanna stand in her spotlight. When she heard somebody was organizing a Last sim standing challenge, she had to sign in: becoming famous is worth dying for!

8: Milo Rees​

Milo Rees is the son of two extremely rich and wealthy sims who appears to be a successful artist. One problem, though… he doesn’t actually want to do any of the work needed to be an artist. He just wants to party and enjoy the finer things in life without having to work for them, so his parents forge artworks for him and sell them under his name. Honestly, his number one reason for signing up for this challenge is that it gets his parents off his back about actually working on his painting skills for a while.

not to be very annoying, but do you happen to know any good books/resources about lgbt slang/identities in victorian/edwardian/etc england? (i mean, things such as lesbians calling each other "toms" and the like). don't worry if you don't know any, but i just figured i'd ask since this was kinda in your Area Of Interest so you might know some off the top of your head.

the not annoying at all but this is a more complex question than at first glance hahaha

TL;DR: there are many types of queer language / we have way more info about men, who have their own lexicon / this era is widely seen as the era in which the concept of identity is actually coming into play / books list at the end, scroll down til you reach bolded text if you don’t want my commentary.

so when you’re looking at mid 19th - interwar lgbt communities, whether in europe or the uk or the usa it doesn’t really matter bc this is quite universal, you’ve got at least three registers, for lack of an easier word:

how self-identified homosexual, inverted, queer, abnormal etc men (henceforth gay men) speak with each other

how self-identified “” women (henceforth lesbian women) speak with each other

interactions between these groups

these naturally intersect with other socioeconomic class factors.

back to england specifically:

despite legal considerations gay men have the most agency and ability to move around and therefore are more likely to interact with each other and form communities. so now you have additional registers:

upper middle / upper class

middle / lower middle / working class (more registers here but nobody asked me and i promise i will give you recs soon)

again, interactions between them

the latter category has limited applications; most of them have to do with prostitution or casual sex and tend to be about categorizing people in terms of what sex acts they participate in. (this is universally true of most forms of gay slang and/or their origins for obvious reasons) think locker room talk. OR, we’re looking at cross class relationships and how other people view members of cross class relationships. not to generalize bc there are other things than this but what is best documented here is the upper class pov of these interactions

for the first category there is much less slang & unique community language, when you look at letters and works of literature etc etc people are picking and choosing from both medical/psychiatric terminology, which is developing rapidly from the 1860s on, and like, classical works; you get a lot of alluding to things. artistic communities (bloomsbury group, natalie clifford barney’s harem in paris and what have you) meanwhile are sort of all over the map. but bc this isn’t Polite Society talk, most of the sources for this kind of language tend to be limited in scope. which is true for all subculture language really but like in this case, authors of the day who are writing what they know are we think giving a pretty accurate picture of what their actual communities were like... but it’s put through a filter for publication.

by the 20th century urban working class gay men in certain circles are using polari, a subcultural lexicon which came from mid/late 19th century theatre and music hall slang, which came from fairground cant, seafaring , labor slang, Yiddish, cockney, theatre slang, fishmarkets, French, Italian, underground crime rings literally i could go on and there’s lots of debate about this. it’s turn of the century when it comes to be used very widely within the gay community, and while its origins are in london it made it to other uk urban centres fairly quickly. this lasted well into the latter half of the 20th century and is the base for a lot of community slang today, which leads me to

lesbian women, who also used polari, albeit to a lesser extent. these were primarily lesbians who were also in the 3rd camp above - ones who are involved in the community and interacting w/ gay men regularly. (”straight women who work in theatre” is another category of woman polari speakers haha but performance slang went thru many changes and eventually things got p separate so you had fairground & theatre cant and gay subculture slang having similar roots but very distinct in usage)

for lesbian communities the same thing as w gay men applies for the upper classes just to a lesser degree due to the relative lack of a community experienced by women

but a very important point here is that, ESPECIALLY during the victorian period, less so moving into the 20th century, intimate relationships between women are viewed very, very differently than those between men - male relationships have hard and fast boundaries of what is and isnt acceptable, those of women do not. 

the development of identity w/ sexuality for women i think in many ways had a lot more to do with women who expressed their gender differently than women who had intimate exclusive relationships w/ other women 

anyway the point is there unfortunately is no like comprehensive text for All Queer Language at this point in time, nor for the development of sexual identity, and the nature of this field (linguistics + history + sociology about queer stuff) means that a lot of the good work is in academic articles which i do NOT know off the top of my head. :-( but here’s some stuff !!

LIST OF THE ACTUAL BOOKS SORRY ABOUT ALL THAT

ok so these are all nonfiction, mostly academic nonfiction, but i want to stress that contemporary literature is a REALLY good way to get a (often rose tinted but not always) look into subculture and there are many novels that play with and/or poke at the ongoing development of sexual identity, especially in edwardia, especially especially in the 1920s, so if youve got endless time to read on your hands it is absolutely worth poking around there.

i have a list in the works of 1920s literature that has lgbt stuff in it and i realise thats a bit late for you but even so!!

also: compilations of letters, memoirs, etc are like super super invaluable
