Me : Hasn't watched a single drama from 2024 because I was too busy
Me: Goes to mydramalist to find something romantic to watch and starts reading comments on all the stuff that seems interesting sees that for almost every one of these fall into one of two camps the first one which houses the majority of shows the comments are exclusively about the guy and how much of a simp or green flag he is (their words not mine) the second category is people are criticizing the show for portraying an uneven dynamic where the fl treats the ml like shit
Me: backs away slowly and goes back to my binge watch of star trek deep space nine
Idk what it is if it's the writing or the different type of fans or a combination of both all I know I'm very confused 🤔 have we fallen into a different timeline ? Parallel universe? Have screens cooked our brains completely?
my friend, your first mistake was raw dogging the comments section on MDL 🙈😂😭 gotta proceed with caution these days 🚧🚧🚧🚧
but I got you. If you want to dip your toes back into 2024 cdramas romances,
* Legend of Shen Li is almost universally liked. I don't know that I encountered a real hater. Don't turn that into sky high expectations that can't be met, though. It's simply a solid xanxia romance with a very strong landing - 1 full length episode dedicated to the happy ending, instead of the xanxia standard 1 minute. The most high god in the universe x demon general who is engaged to heaven's notorious playboy that's terrified of her. and who is temporarily a chicken. (just go with it) The main couple have chemistry & are very capable actors. Rarely do I make it thru a xanxia without ever being consumed with rage at some awful thing the plot has one of the main couple perpetrate on the other... but this one passed! The main actress is convincing as an immortal warrior.
* Blossoms in Adversity is NOT universally liked, tbh it got almost no traction on tumblr. But despite all its flaws I found myself watching it eagerly. I am a sucker for historical costume dramas with feminist themes - if you enjoyed Dream of Splendor, this one might appeal. After all the men in the family are exiled and they are stripped of their noble status, the main wives, concubines, children, and servants of a large official's household have to figure out a way to survive on their own. Without the guidance (and yoke) of men. The strength of the drama is that it isn't easy - these women are not all kind & smart & selfless. They're complicated people and a product of their environment. But watching them slowly come together was so satisfying, and how all the women begin to explore an identity beyond the strict roles they held in that manor. It's so direct about how much power men had over their wives in that era and what that means for these women. The main otp will appeal if you like ships of 2 mature adults who have their own goals and respect each other as equals, who are supportive but don't step on each other's independence. The FL's practicality was so pleasing to me. It just dropped it's final episodes via Express.
* The Spirealm available legally now on Viki, if your tastes run to censored gay romance. And if you like mystery/ horror and like fiction that asks, what is reality (and does the definition of 'real' matter). Like in korean bl Love for Love's Sake, the protagonist enters a game world and ends up caring about that world. (unlike LFLS, a distinct lack of kissing with tongue)
* In Blossom - Chinese het web novel vibes just exploding onto the screen. Childhood sweathearts torn apart years ago, now he's a rich noble while she's poor but he still wants to marry her as promised. (She is less sure about this.... then she gets her body swapped by this crazy chick who really REALLY wants to marry the ML. who, ooops gets murdered on their wedding night.) So now FL is in crazy chick's body and the #1 suspect for her gruesome murder is ML, that childhood sweetheart who showed up out of the blue to propose. and happens to be the top candidate in running to marry the crown princess 🤔🤔🤔 . She thinks he (tried to) kill her. He thinks she's dead and hates the lady she's stuck impersonating. Spoiler: they fall in love.
* Amidst a Snowstorm of Love - Slice of life soft cdrama, if you like that kind of thing. Developing relationship for like 30 episodes about 2 professional snooker players. Relaxing vibes, sweet romance. They're both kind, talented, and capable. They're good for each other and really humanly awkward about starting a relationship. You don't watch this kinda drama for dramatic tension, you just chill with it and wind down after a hard day. It's baked-in that they'll get married at the end.

Key Factors to Consider While Picking a Lab Centrifuge
Choosing the appropriate centrifuge for your laboratory can make all the difference when it comes to yielding good efficiency, dependability, and suitability for various applications. In this guide, we outline the key consideration factors that would help you make informed choices as you pick the right centrifuge for your needs.
Understanding Centrifuges and Their Role in the Lab
A lab centrifuge becomes indispensable in those laboratories where the separation of fluids, gasses, or liquids, based on density, becomes necessary. Various models of centrifuges are used in the laboratory, starting with blood, DNA, RNA, or other cellular components separations. The correct model will depend on your specific application, throughput, and long-term requirements.
Neuation offers a range of models with the aim of solving diversified laboratory needs, namely,
iFuge CS2P NXT
iFuge FX2P
iFuge L1000
iFuge L400 NXT
iFuge L400P
Below are the key factors to consider when picking the perfect centrifuge for your lab:
1. Type of Samples
Different centrifuges are optimized for specific sample types. Blood, DNA, RNA, and other biological materials may require varying speeds, rotor configurations, and temperature controls. Identifying your sample types will guide you in choosing the right model. For example, high-speed centrifuges are typically needed for molecular biology applications, whereas clinical labs may prefer low-speed models for blood sample separation.
2. Volume and Throughput
The main factor for consideration should be the volume and the number of samples you will be processing at any one time. Some centrifuges are designed for smaller volumes but at high throughput, whereas others handle larger volumes with a limited number of samples to be processed at one time. The iFuge L1000, for example, offers a large capacity of 4 x 250 mL for laboratories dealing in bulk sample processing.
3. Rotor Types
Centrifuge rotors are highly variable concerning the type of sample that one intends to process and the required application. The main types of rotors include:
Fixed-Angle Rotators: Can be operated at high speeds for faster separation of samples, thus generally used in units such as iFuge FX2P.
Buckets on swing-out rotors: Buckets on swing-out rotors work satisfactorily for applications that involve sedimentation and gradient separation. Models accommodating such include iFuge CS2P NXT and iFuge L1000.
Specialized Rotors: These are designed for specific tasks, such as cell culture or microplate centrifugation.
4. Maximum Speed and RCF
The centrifuge speed, conventionally measured in RPM, and the RCF are critical in such separations. The applications will fall into one category or another based on the speed and the RCF of a centrifuge, enabling its functionality in sample separations. As an example, the iFuge FX2P is for very demanding applications because of its unusually high maximum speed of 20,000 RPM at an RCF of 28,000g.
5. Refrigerated vs. Non-Refrigerated
For sensitive, temperature-dependent samples, a refrigerated centrifuge is required. Models include the iFuge CS2P NXT and the iFuge L1000, which boast of refrigeration that ensures sensitive samples are protected even on extended centrifugation. Variants, without refrigeration, include types like the iFuge L400P, best used when the separation of samples is rather basic, where temperature control is not of major concern.

Guide to Picking the Finest Teapots
A teapot is a vessel for steeping tea leaves in hot water for making tea. A kettle is not the same as a teapot. The only use for the kettle is to boil water for making tea. You should never use a teapot to boil water and a kettle to steep tea.
Main types of teapots: Teapot sets can be broken down into different categories based on things like country, material, era, and so on. When choosing a teapot set, the two most important aspects to consider are the material and the country of origin.
1. Glass teapots: Adding a good glass teapot set to your collection is always a great idea. They are essential for brewing blooming or flowering teas and work well for brewing almost any type of tea. You will be able to appreciate the beauty of opening tea leaves with this glass teapot set. Teapots made of glass can come in a variety of sizes and shapes. They can have filters made of metal, glass, or nothing at all. Ball-shaped oolongs, blooming tea, floral tea, and a wide range of other green teas are the best to brew in a glass teapot set.
2. Teapots made of cast iron:  The testubin, a type of teapot set made in Japan, is the best example of a cast iron teapot. But not every tetsubin is a teapot. In point of fact, traditional testubins were utilized for boiling water due to their ability to alter the flavor of tea and alter the flavor of water. Testubin are now used to refer to kettles and teapot sets made of cast iron. However, cast iron tea pots have an enamel coating, are used for tea brewing rather than water boiling, and frequently serve more decorative purposes.
3. Teapots made of ceramic:   There are a wide variety of teapot sets made of ceramic, including stoneware, porcelain, porous ceramics, and glazed ceramics. Yixing produces the most well-known sets of porous, unglazed ceramic tea pots. They are excellent for making raw oolong pu'erh teas and are made of purple clay (zisha). Brewing tea may eventually result in the formation of a thin layer of the interior coating. As a result, they should only be used with one kind of tea at a time. Stoneware, the other type of ceramic, is non-porous and can be used to make a variety of teas. Ceramic porcelain is also very thin and sophisticated, so it should be used with care.
4. Teapots made of stainless steel:  The ability to retain heat may be the most significant benefit of stainless steel teapots. As a result, your tea will remain hot longer than it would in a glass teapot. Due to its resistance to falls and boiling water, it is also the most long-lasting material.
Is the flavour affected by the type of teapot you use?
Yes, the flavour of your tea can also be affected by the teapot you use. Non-porous ceramics and glass pots are two examples of materials that are unlikely to alter taste. Porous ceramics, cast iron, and stainless steel all have the potential to influence taste for a variety of reasons. First and foremost, purchase safe, high-quality tea ware at all times. It's possible that the materials used to make cheap teapots aren't always safe, or they could break down over time. Next, teapots made of metal that are not made of stainless steel may rust. The best teapot you can buy is a porous ceramic teapot, but only if you only use it for tea.
Which material makes the best teapot?
Your needs will determine the best material for your teapot.
Glass teapots are best for brewing green, floral, and light oolong teas; they can be washed in a dishwasher. Stoneware teapots are generally good for brewing many types of tea; they can usually be washed in a dishwasher.
Unglazed ceramic teapots are best for brewing darker oolongs, raw pu’erh, or black tea; they can't be washed in a dishwasher or with a washing liquid.
Porcelain tea pots
Size of teapots:  The type of tea you want to make and the amount of tea you want to make will determine the size of the teapot. A 250-500 ml regular glazed or glass teapot may be the best option for making tea for one to two people when making flavoured blends like Vanilla Black, traditional classic blends like Earl Grey, or herbal blends like Chamomile Lavender. A 250 ml Japanese side-handle kyusu is a great option for making tea for one or two people if you want to brew Japanese teas. Depending on the cups you use, 120-150 millilitres of Chinese gaiwan are sufficient for one to four people and almost any type of Chinese tea.
Should a teapot with a strainer be your choice?
Some teapots come with built-in stainless steel strainers made of metal, some have filters with holes inside, some have filters made of ceramic or metal that can be taken out, and some may not have any filters at all. For loose leaf tea with larger leaves, teapots with internal holes are ideal. Metal filters built in may be great for small particles but may be hard to clean. Almost any type of tea, including rooibos, can typically be used with removable metal mesh filters.
Conclusion:   The above guide will surely help you to select the best material and size of teapot sets for your requirement.
Resource Box:  If you are looking for stylish teapots or teapot set, then you should buy teapots from one of the best stores like Curate Home to get best teapots of your choice and need at the most competitive prices.

I bought a house in the middle of nowhere
“Yeah, I loved it, but she’d never move there.” It was something akin to that, at least. He didn’t mean any mischief, no deceit or planning. It was an honest take on what, at the time, was true. I saw the road into town on Google Maps, noted that it was closed during the winter, acknowledged the reality that a person can own a snowmobile, and I said, “we are not moving there.” But, all good truths are just dares in the making.
And here I am, living in the “there” I said I would not. Two years ago, I left my job at Headspace for a life reset. It was pre-pandemic, and Ben and I were planning a big road trip. Our perfect paradise in Topanga, CA, had crystallized itself as many people’s perfect paradise, and those “many people” all had more money than us. Our options to buy a home were nil, and home-buying was essentially all we wanted. Ben’s a builder and I’m a world builder, and we wanted somewhere to invest that didn’t belong to someone else. We packed the car with the tent and the bikes and the dog and all the things that come with tents and bikes and dogs, and off we went on our own Tour de l’Ouest, looking for a place to call home. We knew what we wanted, knew our odds of finding it, and hit the road anyway. Here was the dream list — concocted by two pie-in-the-sky dummies who married each other:
Not rainy or consistently windy
Notable access to the arts
Remote and challenging to get to/close neighbors
Wild West influenced architecture
Progressive community
Exceptional trail access out the front door
High-speed internet
In our budget
And my personal favorite: had to “feel right” Good luck to us with a list like that, but thus began our hunt. We camped in the snow, tried every dirty chai in the Rockies, and explored every town we could. Whatever a good time it was, it felt useless. Every town Ben was OK with, I hated. Every town I was OK with, Ben despised. And the few places we both loved required money we just didn’t have. We came home with our sails down, limping into the harbor of our rental. But as is the way with romantics, our dreams began to slowly eclipse our reality. Books fell victim to Zillow and Trulia. TV was replaced by the MLS. All writing time was dedicated to Realtor.com. Hours were spent pouring over maps, county records, and updating spreadsheets that tracked price per square foot compared to beds and baths. Over time, all that internetting led to one singular town of 180 people at 10,000 feet in the San Juan Mountains of Colorado with a road that said “Closed Winters” on Google Maps. Look, I don’t know what happened. Ben found this town on a map, I said don’t be ridiculous, and after a year or so of him telling people I'd never move here, here I am, being ridiculous. Was it reverse psychology? Maybe. Was it the charming “town plan” that mandated all houses be rustic cabins and forbade AirBnB? Could be. Was it the fact that when I looked at Strava’s Heatmap, it showed what seemed like thousands of miles of trails just out the front door? I mean, yes. All these things played a part, but all I know for certain is that one day I woke up and said, “we’re going to move there.” Ben doubted this conviction (and the realities behind it) thus cementing it into place in my head. In a town of 180 people there’s only ~60 houses, which means maybe 2 or 3 get listed per year — but my spreadsheet had the proof: we hadn’t missed our chance yet in this tiny town. The data showed a strong likelihood there would be at least two houses listed within the calendar year. This, however, was also our last chance. The spreadsheet also showed that if we didn’t find a house this year, we wouldn’t be able to afford one the next. We called a realtor, made our case, and harangued her until she believed us that we were truly the kind of yahoos who would move to an avalanche field and stay there. And then it happened. A pocket listing. It was a darling home built in 1890. It had the beds, the baths, and the views. We were the first and only to know. We put in an offer, they agreed, and we would come to see the house in a few weeks. But in those few weeks, the circumstances changed. The sellers lost their own sweet deal, and they couldn’t sell yet. Their agent promised we had right of first refusal, it was only a matter of time. Ben lamented, I preached patience, and we went to see the house that was no longer for sale anyway.
It was a quiet winter morning in Covid when we drove across the packed snow to meet our realtor outside the house. The sun was out and the 13 degrees Fahrenheit felt warm. I unzipped my jacket, mask on my face. I took long videos and talked about where I would set up my office and where we’d put the bikes. As we closed up and I settled into a future where this house would eventually be mine, our realtor told us there were comps in the area — other residents quietly interested in potentially closing out. Would we like to see them? Sure, let’s.
One home came with an incredible commercial kitchen. The whole house was a whopping 3500 sq ft if my memory serves me correct, which falls under the category of “houses too big to find your cat in."
Another home had an open-air-to-the-kitchen bathroom.
The third was dark and overpriced with cracked windows and open beer cans scattered about.
And then, plans changed.  “Hey guys, there’s actually one more house we can see.” The last house we saw was a log cabin, nestled in the hillside by itself, with massive A-frame windows looking out onto the peaks beyond. Inside was a labyrinth of a life lived long and large. The cabin was built and loved by a man we’ll call Jack. Jack was 82, and as we walked toward the front door on that sunny winter morning, he exited with two beers in his pockets, headed to the mountain to ski. Jack was an attorney — in his life he’d been both criminal and defender — and from the stories, somewhat interchangeably. There were artifacts from running in the same scenes as Hunter S. Thompson and Willie Nelson; there were stuffed birds, bad books, sheet-covered couches, smoked spliffs, and piles and piles of mouse shit. Every inch of the house was lived in, and not just by people. You think millennials like plants? No. This man likes plants. The biggest monstera deliciosa I’ve ever seen, spanning some 10 feet wide and 15 feet tall. Draping cactuses, spider plants, massive aloes, and an ambitious hoya carnosa clawing its way to the top of the massive fireplace. But there were problems. I’m trying to be diplomatic saying the house was lived in. The wood by the door handles was dyed black from years of hand grease rubbing against it. The carpet in the upstairs was soiled almost everywhere with bat scat. Newspaper was stuffed between the massive logs to keep the wind out. There was cardboard taped over almost every window, blankets nailed over the others. Half the doors wouldn’t open. It was unnerving to touch the crusted light switches. It was early enough in the season of Covid-fear that touching anything felt like gambling. On our way back to our rental in the bigger neighboring town, we shared our awe and our no-ways, lamenting how long we’d have to wait for the little 1890s fixer upper. That night, I sent the video I took of the cabin to my parents. “Can you believe this?” I asked. And do you know what my dad said? “Great log construction.” After that, the cabin was all we could talk about. “Could you believe those plants?” “Did you see how big those logs were?” “I just googled Jack, look at this.” “Do you know what the insulating factor of logs is?” “How much did he say he was asking?” It came down to the plants. Amidst all the chaos in that house, the tender care of those decades-old plants sung the clearest. This wasn’t just a place Jack lived in, it was a place that wanted to be lived in. We made an offer the next day.
Tumblr media
Jack had six months to clear out his 30 odd years of collecting, and the town had six months to speculate about the worrisome Californians moving to their high-altitude, high-risk town. The town itself is an old mining town. It rests in a high valley, surrounded by peaks over 13,000ft, and is over six hours from the nearest major airport. Five people died around this town in avalanches this past year. The dirt road into town is littered with avalanche fields, warning visitors to not stop when driving in. The other way out is a pass road, only drivable in the warm months, but you could skin out if it was dire. Most August days, the high is in the mid-60s. The valley is blanketed in wildflowers, and the aspens littering the mountainsides suggest a promising fall display. The town had a heyday, a low day, and now it’s a community of preppers, adventurers, appreciators, and “get all these idiots away from me”ers. We don’t know these people yet, but the ones we’ve met have the same like to live hard attitude we do. Heli-ski guides, ex-CIA agents, woodworkers, bakers, teachers, just a general can-do group of people. The kind of people that see a California license plate and peer with skepticism between the thin gap over their sunglasses and under their caps.
Tumblr media
You might say I’m romanticizing the place, but the residents are worse. Like all good old-timers, they’re full of threats: “wait’ll you see the snow drifts,” “let’s see how you do outrunning an avalanche,” “good luck with the winds,” “the last Californians didn’t last a year.” God, what does that remind me of?
“Yeah, I loved it, but she’d never move there.”
With every taunt, my teeth ground more enamel, fingers rolling into a clench. And maybe Jack recognized this intensity, because on the day of closing, he hosted a gathering for us in the town's open space. He had us introduce ourselves to the skeptical locals, and I made my case in court, eyes narrowed and lips curled. “I’m the daughter of a smokejumper and wildlife biologist. I grew up watching the wind and the door. I’ve lived in big cities, small boats, and more than one cabin. I always take the stairs, I never use air-conditioning, and I’m a very good shot.” I’m just a girl, standing in front of a town, asking them to give her a fucking chance. Jack stepped forward to speak. “You know, I had my doubts about a couple Californians coming to look at my house. But these people? These are the nicest people you’re ever gonna meet.” And then I helped Jack set up his cot so he could spend his last night under the stars in the town that kept him young. Cooper ran circles with the other dogs. People brought homemade cocktails and bowls of dip and we felt welcomed. Even the mayor, a fellow writer, came and she struck up a conversation. “I hear you’ve got a little bit of a following on social media!” She teased. “I guess, nothing wild.” “Well I just wanted to let you know if you ever geotag this town, I’ll drag you out of it.” She grinned. This was a special place. And every visitor who couldn’t handle the realities of being here threatened the very wellbeing of the people who lived here. This town survives on a delicate balance. They source their own water, manage their own roads, and fervently protect the land and the people around them. Their stories about racing avalanches, snowmobiling in the dark of night to the doctor’s house, hunkering down in each other’s homes as the storms pass — these stories were bylaws. You can join when you’ve proven you’re ready to join. By their own projection, they are hardy and steadfast people, and when they see a Californian, they see something fleeting. Many years ago, I worked in the British Virgin Islands. The people born and raised there were called Belongers. At the customs office, the placards above the lines literally read, “If you belong, stand here” and “If you do not belong, stand here.” Whether or not we belong isn't up to the town council, and it's not up to these residents. It's up to years spent drifting my old Mustang in the snow on the way to school, up to Ben's months and months spent in the backcountry, up to my years of reading fire reports and assisting with evacuations, up to Ben's ability to read the landscape and the weather, up to my doggedness, his diligence, and our pathological love to do difficult things well. It’s up to us, to these old logs, and to this valley. Doesn't mean we'll belong, but it does mean we'll try. And for the record, the road is open in the winter. But do these sound like the kind of people who’d tell Google that? Next week, a tour of the house that we get to call ours — stuffed with newspaper, run by plants, and filled with mice. P.S. Here's where we get our mail.

suprisingly not that many people ship them, but the thing is. the "&" is literally in the top 3 relationships!! i have not been in a fandom where a "&" is one of the most popular rships. (im not exactly.. against them? i prefer brotp in general but there are a lot of uh racist antis against that romantic ship so i like it on principle for the ~spite~)
i think theres a difference between a ship fic and a ..normal fic(?). like. usually in ship fics the plot and the focus would be their interactions/getting together. whereas for regular fics u can kinda balance plot and rship, but the main plot isnt actually getting together. do u kinda get what i mean haha
no no feel free to rant! its kinda funny that they taught u to swear in yr6 but rip for not being able to censor urself. and also. broke up. over facebook??? better or worse than text lmao.
the only rship ive had started off... not great. like it was an online friend from south america, and they asked me out literally the day i rejected my friend. so... i said yes out of guilt for rejecting my friend bc it didnt look like my friend was taking the rejection well ^^; not a wonderful start rip. went well for 6-8 months then we broke up bc the honeymoon period wore off and i havent talked to them since! ✌🏻✌🏻✌🏻✌🏻✌🏻✌🏻✌🏻 it was fun tho, but it felt honestly just more online friends tbh (....interesting decisions all around yknow? )
it be how it be. i was still id'ing as panromantic ace at the time. but still. im wondering if i could eventually "work" with someone? or is that just. allonormative asgsggshshd
i see enemies to lovers but what i Rlly want is enemies to friends to lovers. the friends is necessary!! at least in a long fic haha. ...and love at first sight sounds really fake to me? it sounds just like a hyperbole tbh. like maybe it was first wow u seem like a great person and then u like, get to know each other and then fall in love, etc etc
(👀 oop i type a lot. Rip)
oh yiiiikes i hate when fandom gets those racist fans. i’m kind of,,, dense?? about that kind of thing (abt a lot of similar things too), so whenever i see it, it’s like. mega bad. but nice! i don’t ever pay attention to what’s the most popular in terms of ao3 because when i get into a fandom i’ll blacklist every thing i’m not comfortable seeing in said fandom and then save that for when i’m gonna check out said fandom. for example [here is my atla filters], [here is my mha filters] and [here is my ml filters]. (i also use an extention called ao3rdr which has a blacklist function and my blacklist is SO LONG. but it’s an essential so that i don’t feel like my brain is going to rot by trying to find good fics.)
ye!!! i always think abt it in terms similar to genres. i hate watching films and regular books because genres are so....stilted? and ridgid in what it involves? so in fandom terms i think there’s two main kind of genre categories that have sub categories. there’s ship fic, then there’s genfic. no clue if these are wide spread terms i’ve just kind of understood it that way lol. but within those two categories, there’s sub genres like canon divergence that focus on said ship but with a focus on the plot as well so there’s two plots going on rather than just the main plot. usually there’s always equals in both sides. i think that’s what you’re thinking of. the difference is how the authors approach their fics, whether they think it’s a ship fic explorating the how do they get together of relationships or if it’s the genfic of exploring the relationship itself.
lmao yeah it was like. the only way we’d communicate in non-irl fashion because we were both like. 12/13 so we’d have like. pay as you go plans for our phones so i at least, hoarded my credit and primarily used alternate communication methods. so idk if this is wide spread but at the time we never got into the habit of communicating via text. it’s why still to this day i never ever contact my irl friends via texts, and always through social media (the only time i ever use facebook nowadays is to message my friends tho i’ve been,,,, rather lax abt that. i need to respond to one of my group chats but i’m,,, procrastinating). and we were both awkward people, so i wasn’t bothered by the online breakup, if he didn’t break up w me that way i’d have guessed we just,,, wouldn’t address the relationship ever again and still technically be together but not at the same time lol
oh man that sounds rough. never had any experiences w online relationships, but i can definitely see where it could feel like an online friendship. because,,, idk maybe it’s just me but there doesn’t??? seem like there’s much?? romantic-esque stuff you can do exclusively online?? it’s why long distance relationships are hard, and they only fit certain couples. and lol i deffo understand that feel of internet friends dropping out of your life suddenly. i still think of nearly all my internet friends fondly...except for the bad ones. yeah some of those ones ten years ago were p bad.
it is!! i think that people always shorten it to just enemies to lovers though because it’s easier to say lol. i’m MUCH more interested in the genfic varient of enemies to found family because it goes from “god i want to kill you so bad” to “god i need to kill for you like rn”. it’s just,,, *chef’s kiss*
(dw i type a LOT too lmaooo and sorry it took so long for me to reply, i didn’t feel like talking to anyone for a few days ahah i just get those kinds of moods sometimes. as evidenced by my also ignoring of my friend group chat of over seven years, that i’ve been meaning to reply to for over 24 hours and i haven’t yet. yay.)

Including Marx and all of his "descendants" there is a shit ton of theorists and a ton that disagree on quite a bit. If you had to recommend certain thinkers to not waste time on who would that be, and If you were to recommend people to pay attention to who would that be? I started reading Heinrich after you referencing his work and It has been very helpful in understanding Marx.
first of all, despite the fact that my reading of marx is objectively Good and True, you’re obviously asking for my one-sided opinion so be aware that that’s what you’re getting.
second of all, i don’t think there are any theorists that are a total waste of time to read tbh. even my least favorites hold some sway in the secondary literature and their influence has to be reckoned with to some degree. being totally ignorant of them doesn’t put you at any kind of advantage.
but with both of those things out of the way, here are my lists
bad theorists to not waste (too much) time on
the monthly review school (sweezy, baran, magdoff, foster). as someone that sunk a decent amount of time into studying this camp a few years ago when i still read marx as an economist, nowadays i see almost 0 utility in their work. i think their body of theory rests on erroneous assumptions that can’t be justified through reference to marxs work or real historical development. beside their economics, they also really push a bizarre eco-socialist rhetoric that really stems from engels’ dialectics of nature, which is, imo, really untenable.
traditional marxian political economy (dobb, meek, cockshott, etc). another camp i spent too much time on, the majority of respected academic marxist economists in the 20th century come from this approach of reading marx as a kind of radical ricardian and have their roots in the history of economic thought, which allows them to come across as much more knowledgeable and serious than they should actually be taken to be. this group reads marxs immanent critique of political economy as a political economic critique of capitalism, getting him totally wrong. the understanding of value is substantialist and redundant, leading many from this camp to be end up sympathetic to the sraffian/neo-ricardian project.
fundamentalist marxist political economy (m roberts, cockshott, s williams, choonara, kliman, etc). more or less a contemporary offshoot of what i just talked about, but which buckled down on the traditional reading of marx against the implications of sraffa’s work and generally without the benefit of a deep familiarity with the history of economic thought. marxs project is understood as a critique of individual political economists and the capitalist system, but at the end of the day he is still read as a political economist that is more or less on ricardian turf. some of these names are better than others, but there is definitely an unresolved tension in their collective approach between marxs uniqueness as a theorist and the historical theorists he’s allegedly merely building on.
postoperaismo, immaterial labor theorists (late negri, hardt, mason, lazzarato). this group attempts to go beyond marx in order to theoretically account for the changing dynamics of capitalism in the late 20th century, but ultimately the marx they’re going beyond is the marx of the traditional interpretation, meaning that they never really grapple with marxs critical social theory or his theory of value, which for him was always-already incapable of direct empirical measurement, something these theorists chalk up to the historical development of immaterial forms of labor rather than the nature of the thing itself.
the 2nd international (kautsky, bernstein, etc). maybe the errors of this group are obvious enough to most people that this doesn’t really need to be said, but reading these theorists after marx, and especially after his unpublished manuscripts (the paris manuscripts, grundrisse, etc where you get to see his sympathies laid out more clearly) you begin to see how everyone involved in the 2nd international was involved in a campaign of reducing marx down to a crude caricature of a serious theorist (not intentionally, but it was definitely the result of their combined effort). these people really were simpletons lmao. i suppose lenin and luxemburg can be treated as exceptions, but not to the point of being on my Need To Read List, because i think ultimately they fall back on many of the same problems (largely due, in part, to the lack of access to the above manuscripts which would be a problem for several more decades).
engels. the one i will be murdered for. but i really do think that engels’ later work is seriously dumbed down theoretically, and that he, as the official representative of marxs work after 1883 and with some of the same limitations, solidified the traditional interpretation passed down to the 2nd international. his earlier work, despite its problems, is where he shines through the most. after all, it was engels who wrote the first communist critique of political economy in 1843 which pushed marx down that same path. but in his later years, he begins speaking positively of political economy, as if its aims were the same as his and marx’s, or as if it simply had to be used by the right hands. this doesn’t make him a traitor to the cause or anything like that, but it does make him, despite their obvious closeness, an unreliable interpreter of marx. that being said, he’s completely unavoidable and his interpretation of marx stood as the official canon and entry point to marxism at the turn of the 20th century. read him, but don’t be a weird engels fan
how to speedrun marx
neue marx-lektüre (backhaus, reichelt, heinrich). the supremely good shit. highly marxological. corrects a lot of problems associated with the traditional reading. glad you like heinrich! i would honestly probably recommend reading sam chambers’ there’s no such thing as the economy to follow up on heinrich with. he does a good job of grounding some of it a bit and also provides a decent summary of the NML. one of the other benefits of the NML is that its explicitly concerned with the critique of the state.
wertkritik (kurz, trenkle, postone, krisis, exit!). good, worth engaging with, but not perfect. postone is probably the strongest theorist related to this tradition imo but their collective merit is in pushing some of the categories further than was typically done, like postone’s treatment of absract time. unfortunately, the theory of value itself is generally weak among these thinkers and they really need to be grounded by the NML in order to hold much utility. you can read heinrich’s critique of postone for a bit more info on this.
big tent value/social-form theory (rubin, milios, murray, arthur, bellofiore, eldred). all (except rubin, who was first) are in some way indebted to the NML but generally come to their similar positions in different ways. unoists would technically belong here but they’re weird and think abstract labor is transhistorical.
open marxism (holloway, bonefeld, o’kane, cleaver). whenever maoists talk about how MLM constitutes a higher scientific development over plain ole ML, this is what open marxism does to everything else on this part of the list. they’re also much more explicitly politically inclined, which is always nice. as an outgrowth of the NML, the state debates are very central to this tradition.

It is appealing to believe end results for people with cardiac arrest might be enhanced by titrating therapy to BNP degrees. Tests were carried out in specialist facilities, used a range of BNP tracking approaches, and did not recognize a BNP target to treat. This research is appealing, yet better examination of which people with cardiac arrest might profit is probably needed before this becomes standard technique. BNP monitoring could be reliable for more youthful patients with minimized ventricular ejection portion. However, the populace with cardiac arrest that is challenging to take care of is frequently older as well as commonly have various other ailment besides cardiac arrest.

October 2014 saw the magazine of a research study, launched by Andrew, of the impact of bread fermentation time on the digestive tract bacteria of patients with Irritable Bowel Syndrome. This is the first component of a broader examination right into the under-researched concern of just how breadmaking method affects digestibility as well as nutrient schedule. The 2010 NICE standard on the management of chronic heart failure advises that BNP (or its acquired N-terminal pro-Btype natriuretic peptide, NTproBNP) is measured in individuals with believed cardiac arrest that have no background of heart attack. Immediate referral and echocardiogram assessment are suggested for those with a BNP level over 400pg/ml. Levels listed below 100pg/ml are stated to make the diagnosis of heart failure not likely. In the friend study, the total death rate was 142 clients per 1,000 per year.

AI Builder for Power Platform: At Microsoft Business Application Summit in 2019, Microsoft announced Artificial Intelligence investments in the Power Platform. The Power Platform is a low code platform that enables organizations to analyze data, act on it through applications, and automate business processes. It allows everyone, from the professional developer to the frontline worker, to participate in driving better business outcomes by building apps.
It will be available for consumption on data that already exists in the Common Data Service (CDS), the enterprise-grade datastore included in the Power Platform. AI Builder is the platform for providing a low-code user experience for every developer to create and customize their PowerApps and Flows.
You can access AI Builder from the navigation pane within the PowerApps Studio or the Microsoft Flow website. The simple wizard like experience is tailored to empower every developer in keeping with the essence of the Power Platform. You can access all your AI models in a single pane under the AI Builder ‘Models’ tab, providing key information about each model upfront in a tabular format. Clicking a particular model takes you into its details page, where other key information and actions are made available to the user. You can perform actions like publish and test the model, view the model efficacy and weights of data contributing to it or view other recommended actions from the details page.
Below are the key capabilities of AI Builder that we are announcing today:
Binary Classification
Binary Classification uses historical data to predict whether new data falls into one of two categories. AI Builder binary classification is an AI model that predicts yes/no business outcomes by learning to associate historical data patterns with historical outcomes. Based on those results, the binary classification model detects learned patterns in new data to predict future outcomes. Use the binary classification AI model to explore any business question that is answered as one of two available options, such as yes/no, true/false, pass/fail, and go/no go.
Text Classification
Text Classification tags any snippet of text based on the historical data you provide. Streamline your business by automatically tagging new text. Text classification is one of the fundamental Natural Language Processing (NLP) problems. It allows tagging of text entries with tags or labels which can be used for sentiment analysis, spam detection and routing customer requests, just to name a few examples. Use AI Builder text classification with Microsoft Flow and PowerApps to automate and scale your business processes, and free your employees to act on these insights. It can also be used as an input for other AI capabilities such as subscription user churn and predictive analysis. AI Builder can learn from your previously labeled text items, and enable you to classify unstructured text data stored in Common Data Service into your own business-specific categories.
Object Detection
Object Detection lets you count, locate, and identify selected objects within any image. You can use this model in PowerApps to extract information from pictures you take with the camera. Object detection can be used to expedite or automate business processes in multiple industries. In the retail industry, it can be used to simplify the inventory management, allowing retail leaders to focus on on-site customer relationship building. In the manufacturing industry, technicians can use it to speed up the repair process by looking up the manual for a piece of machinery by taking a picture, even if the UPC/serial number is not visible.
Business Card Reader
Business Card Reader is a component available in the PowerApps studio that lets you scan business cards. You can use this control to extract contact information from pictures of business cards or your mobile phones camera.
Form Processing
Form Processing identifies the structure of your documents based on examples you provide to extract text from any matching form. Examples might include tax forms or invoices. Form processing allows you to create and consume models that use machine learning technology to identify and extract key-value pairs and table data from form documents. Train your model and define what information needs to be retrieved from your form documents. You only need five form documents to get started. You can get results quickly, accurately and tailored to your specific content without the need for a lot of manual intervention or extensive data science expertise.
With the above announcements, AI Builder makes available Cognitive and AI offerings from Microsoft to everyone by lowering the bar to entry and learning by providing a low code experience to create and consume AI in Business apps and Processes. There by providing a true no-cliffs opportunity with a grow up story to Azure ML and Cognitive services.
We’re delighted to continue to add value to the Power Platform and realize the vision of enabling the next wave of Citizen and Pro-developers to make intelligent business applications.
Customer Testimonial
G&J Pepsi, headquartered in Cincinnati, Ohio, has more than 1,600 employees focused on manufacturing, distributing, and marketing the full line of Pepsi-Cola products. The G&J Pepsi IT team used AI Builder and PowerApps to create the next generation of their Store Audit App, enabling better mobility and efficiency for field personnel whose job it is to assess product needs on the shelves in stores.

Separating hype from reality: is AI the answer to effective cyber security?
Tumblr media
Photo caption: Is AI the answer to solving the cyber security conundrum?
The cyber security threats facing businesses have increased in velocity, volume and success. The problem is getting worse and there are more data breaches than ever before. Can artificial intelligence effectively mitigate this growing list of threats, or is it simply hype generated by the AI security vendors?
As businesses begin to generate and amass large stores of data, they become the targets of hackers. These malicious actors have a range of threats in their arsenal, including phishing attacks and new ransomware strains (such as WannaCry which disabled the NHS and other organisations around the world two years ago), which can infiltrate an organisation’s network and begin harvesting that most valuable resource, data.
In this cyber war, it is clear who is on the losing side. Organisations simply can’t keep up with the volume and variety of attacks. They need an ally, but is AI the answer?
AI: the savior or false prophet
Artificial intelligence, despite its portrayal in films such as The Terminator and Transcendance, is an umbrella term that describes the process of intelligent automation; machine learning, natural language processing, cognitive computing, deep learning and robotic process automation all fall under the AI and automation categories. It’s a process of augmenting human intelligence through ones and zeros to improve various industries and practices, including cyber security.
A number of AI security vendors have jumped onto this trend –– such as Darktrace –– and are delivering AI-enabled cyber security solutions that can help organisations respond to cyber security threats in a much faster and more effective manner.
According to Mike Beck, global head of Threat Analysis at Darktrace, the company’s latest solution, the cyber AI analyst, can emulate “the human thought processes that take place when a security analyst performs an investigation on a security incident. It’s like having an extra member of staff that is an expert in their field, and reports on issues in seconds, instead of hours.”
Tumblr media
Photo caption: Mike Beck views AI as an extra member of staff.
But how can organisations trust this? A recent report from London venture capital firm MMC, found that 40% of ‘AI startups’ in Europe don’t actually use AI. They are, in fact, jumping on the AI hype bandwagon for investment purposes –– ‘AI washing’. And while this isn’t directly linked to AI in cyber security, it is a general problem that has negative connotations for the technology. Without trust innovation will be stifled, because organisations and users will become skeptical of the technology.
Tumblr media
Photo caption: AI, today, is less like the machines portrayed in the Terminator and more like an assimilation of ones and zeros, or code.
AI is not a silver bullet, but has a role to play in effective cyber security
Despite this report and a general lack of trust in artificial intelligence, there is a place for AI in cyber security. The technology, combined with the security basics like firewalls, data encryption and endpoint protection, can help improve the overall cyber security posture of an organisation.
Among many applications of AI in cyber security, here are three of the most useful:
1. Identify new malware strains
New strains of malware are constantly generated and artificial intelligence is very good at identifying these new types of attack, because it recognise patterns far more effectively than a human. “The technology is useful in future-proofing organisations against new malware,” stated Labhesh Patel, CTO and chief scientist at Lubio.
2. Detect anomalies
The technology can also detect anomalies that enter a business’ network, alert the relevant person and stop the attack before it has had time to harvest a significant amount of data.
3. The insider threat
AI can be used to recognise unusual patterns in employee computer usage. For example, if a download is taking place outside of office hours and this is an unusual event, an AI system would be able to stop the potential data theft in its tracks.
Tumblr media
Photo caption: AI is not a silver bullet for cyber security, but instead, should be included as one aspect of a formidable security strategy.
One part of a robust security strategy
Artificial intelligence, combined with doing the basics right, can improve an organisation’s cyber security posture.
“AI and ML are just tools, and it’s how you use the tools that matter,” said Etienne Greeff, CTO and founder of SecureData. “There’s certainly a role for ML and AI in cyber security; for example, they are very good at dealing with lots of information and trying to understand what is normal and what’s anomalous.”
He does argue, however, that “in cyber security and in application security, there’s actually no known application of AI. There’s no autonomous agent that automatically defines threats; that does not happen yet, and it’s not very close to happening.”
AI is not a silver bullet. Instead the technology should be integrated as part of a robust, defence-in-depth security strategy that keeps data safe, mitigates cyber attacks and focuses on risk management, rather than incident response.
