Done with my @inklings-challenge Four Loves Fairy Tale Challenge! I retold King Thrushbeard/King Hawksbeak (we had an old collection growing up where it was Hawksbeak). I had a lot of fun and I was able to write it really fast, which is not typical of me, but it is also around 10,000 words, which is typical of me (brevity might be the soul of wit, but it is not the soul of me).
Anyway, please enjoy Bittersweet!

Another story complete, The Beetle that Ate the Sun. It's more like a traditional fairy tale or children's story. I plan on commissioning the court artist (my sister) to illustrate it eventually.

I did Archery! Highest was sixty words. Here's what I wrote from my short story Bruised Peaches:
Cranking, clattering, this huge, bloated insect of a building, ladders and walkways, coated in rust and pockmarked by barnacles. The scent of salt and motor oil mixes with something almost like wine. It’s early, to keep the heat from the sun off our backs a little longer while we load crates of olives, green and black, fish, tiny slivers of silver in salt and oil, into the boats. We joke, we stack. “Damn," I hiss, a sharp pain shooting down my back. I set down my crate and take a moment to look out across the island and to rest the twist in my back. Even young it wears a man out. As my lazy glance drifts to the huge walls of the cannery some distance off, I see something that holds my eye. I lift up my cap, slick back my hair out of my eyes. Out of the a side door, in long strides, a woman climbs on the rock. A sharp white dress, without blemish, billows about against the black walls of the rusted cannery. I pause with the crate in my grasp. She nails my feet to the dock with eyes so black that I feel like even in the coldest winter nights without a slice of moon I have not seen anything so dark.
Camp Tolkien: Day 1
Welcome to Camp Tolkien!
Our two-week summer camp is a chance for you to work on the project of your choice in the company of other writers. No matter which stage of the process you're in--brainstorming, outlining, drafting, revising--Camp Tolkien's activities are here to help you make progress. Bring along your projects, and have fun!
Today's four activities are listed below. Choose whichever one you wish--choose more than one if you want to.
Icebreakers: Tell the other campers about the project you've brought to camp by writing a one-paragraph summary.
Photography: Find or create at least five reference pictures that visualize settings and/or characters in your project.
Archery: Set a timer for two minutes. Write as many words as you can in that time. Repeat this four more times, for a total of five mini writing sessions. Keep track of your word count for each, and let us know your high score.
Nature Walk: Work on your project while you're outdoors.
When you're finished, reblog or reply to this post, telling us how it went, and/or sharing what you wrote for the day.
So glad to have you all at camp! Have fun, go forth, and create!

Last Line Tag
Okay, so I just got tagged by @ghostpicnic-writes to take part in the last line tag. Thanks, this is the first time I have played a Tag game on this blog! :)
Last lines I wrote:
"None of them questioned the scream or rose to comfort its owner. No, they all went back to sleep. It seemed unfair, but Ivor remembered that Jerome had been put in the corner bunk for a reason: his frequent nightmares annoyed the rest of them.
So Ivor lay back down as well, determinedly trying to ignore Jerome's quiet sobs below."
My poor boy Jerome, I want to protect him! (For reference, Ivor does help him with his nightmares in the future. Right now they don't really know each other and Ivor is trying not to draw attention to himself.)
Alright, so I'm not sure how many people I'm meant to tag but I'll just go for it I guess? I tag: @coffehousecreations @cookiecuttercritter @maidollyganger

Grey Cup Championship
The most surprising jump comes from the BC Lions, who vaulted Edmonton in odds to both appear in and win the 107th Grey Cup game. However, the Esks could put that dream to bed in Week 17, as they’d clinch the crossover playoff position with a victory. That’s good news for the Saskatchewan Roughriders, who won the West in 44 percent of sims and made it to the championship nearly half the time. They also feature in the most likely Grey Cup showdown for this week. Speaking of the Ticats, they remain in the drivers seat in the East. The victory over Winnipeg vaulted their chances to appear in the Grey Cup to 85 percent and their chances to win the whole thing up nearly 20 percent. Hamilton is also in the top three most likely matchups for the title. With the tight race atop the West Division continuing to amp up with every passing week, we got to see the weight that a win or a loss could have on the CFL Simulation. 107th Grey Cup 107th Grey Cup Festival 107th Grey Cup Championship Grey Cup Champions Grey Cup Championship Grey Cup Final Grey Cup Game CFL Grey Cup CFL Grey Cup Game Grey Cup Time Grey Cup Start Time Grey Cup TV Channel Grey Cup TV Coverage Grey Cup Halftime Show After being projected to be in the most likely Grey Cup matchup against Hamilton in the Week 16 edition of the sim, a loss to those very same Ticats severely hurt the Bombers’ this time around. Along with their drop to third place in the West standings, Winnipeg was also dealt huge blows to their odds to host a playoff game, win the division, and appear in the championship game. The model calculates each team’s probability of victory in each remaining game. It then simulates 10,000 replications of the remaining regularseason schedule and resulting playoff bracket including the possibility of a playoff crossover team.  For each replication, the model keeps track of a number of performance metrics for example, which teams earned home playoff games, which teams appeared in the Grey Cup, etc.. TigerCat fans everywhere, and the TigerCat organization, have worked hard to convey our enthusiasm for bringing the Grey Cup to Hamilton again, Ticats owner Bob Young said in a statement. We are thrilled to be in consideration by the Canadian Football League to host the upcoming 2020 Grey Cup game and festival, and we look forward with excitement and anticipation to the league’s announcement on February 21. We want to thank the CFL and the Grey Cup committee for their diligence throughout the bid process, he said in a statement. We feel like we put forth a strong and compelling bid to host the 2020 Grey Cup in our 110th anniversary year where we will be able to showcase Mosaic Stadium and Saskatchewan's incredible hospitality. We encourage our fans to come together on February 21st as we anxiously await the announcement. Hamilton last hosted a Grey Cup the infamous Snow Bowl game at Ivor Wynne Stadium in 1996, while Regina's Taylor Field was the site of the 101st Grey Cup that the hometown Riders won in 2013. Olympic Stadium last played host to the Grey Cup in 2008.This fall's Grey Cup, the 107th, is set to be hosted by the defending champion Calgary Stampeders on November 24 at McMahon Stadium. The CFL Simulator returned ahead of Week 13 and made Riderville very happy when it projected Saskatchewan as an early favourite to win the 107th Grey Cup. But following a lopsided loss to the Winnipeg Blue Bombers on the road, the green and white dropped out of the top spot in all the categories they led in the first simulation. The biggest hit they took was to their Grey Cup odds. After being at nearly 50 percent a week ago, they sit at just 6 percent now and won the championship just three percent of the time. They’ve also had their odds to win the West dropped from 49 to 6 percent. The Bombers have jumped into the driver’s seat ahead of Week 14 action, and the Calgary Stampeders have now jumped into the conversation as a championship favourite again after winning both halves of their homeandhome series against Edmonton.Calgary has also received another spot in the top five Grey Cup matchups with their performance. In the East, Montreal made a jump up after winning their third straight game in Week 13 and they now feature in two of the five most likely championship game matchups. Their percentage to capture the championship went down because of Calgary’s surge, but their odds of hosting a playoff game went up. After beating Ottawa in their headtohead matchup in Week 13, the Toronto Argonauts improved their odds in nearly every category. On the other side, the REDBLACKS are now projected to finish with the worst record in the league at 414. While there's no love lost between the Montreal Alouettes and Calgary Stampeders, neither team is looking for a repeat of last game's fireworks.A heated contest between Montreal and Calgary in midAugust started with a pregame brawl and ended in a comefrombehind, overtime victory by the Alouettes. That wild finish — and the bad blood between both teams — is still fresh on everyone's minds as the Als 76 prepare to host the Stamps 94 on Saturday. That's not what we're about. That's not what they're about. There's always going to be a little talking back and forth, but we're going to make sure that our guys aren't into anything extracurricular. We'll let our play speak for itself. Before that Aug. 17 encounter even started, the pregame warmup turned into a full skirmish when Montreal cornerback Tommie Campbell traded punches with former Stampeder teammate Wynton McManis. Players from both teams converged on midfield and more punches were thrown. There were no suspensions following the fight, but three players were fined. We want to play with poise and we want to make sure not to get in altercations especially before a game, or during a game, Stamps coach Dave Dickenson told the team's website this week. That's not football to me. I don't think I really need to address a lot of it. Down 11 points with 45 seconds to play, the Alouettes scored a touchdown and twopoint conversion, then recovered the onside kick and booted a lastsecond field goal.It was Montreal's first win at McMahon Stadium since 2009. I'm sure they're watching the film to know what happened and the mistakes they feel they made, and what plays we made, said Jones of Saturday's opposition. Our guys have the knowledge that we can beat this team and we have to play really good football to do it. Since that loss, the defending Grey Cup champions have won four straight games and clinched a postseason berth. Calgary sits atop the West Division, tied with the Saskatchewan Roughriders 94 and a halfgame ahead of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers 95.That fourgame win streak coincides with quarterback Bo Levi Mitchell's return from injury. Montreal is also getting its starting QB back this week. Vernon Adams Jr. returns after serving a onegame suspension for a dangerous and reckless act. The CFL suspended Adams for swinging a helmet at Winnipeg linebacker Adam Bighill on Sept. 21.The Alouettes quarterback was forced to watch from the sidelines as Montreal lost 2523 to the B.C. Lions last week after a fumbled thirdandshort late in the fourth quarter. But this week I'm back and I'm glad to be back. I'm just trying to help lead and do whatever I can to bring a win to the home crowd. Montreal would clinch its first playoff spot since 2014 with a win or tie against the Stampeders. A postseason berth and home playoff game is all but guaranteed for the Alouettes, who will likely finish second in the East Division behind the Hamilton TigerCats. This city is buying into it, said Adams, who is tied for second in the league with 15 passing TDs. They have nothing but good things to say after our games. Even when we lose in those tight ones, they're still saying how much better we look from previous years. It shows how much we want to win for this city and this organization. We didn't execute.Down six points midway through the fourth quarter, Ottawa's De'Andre Montgomery recovered Lorenzo Jerome's puntreturn fumble to give the Redblacks the ball on Calgary's 19yardline. Ward's 30yard field goal cut the deficit to three points down with just over five minutes to play.I do believe honestly we got outplayed and probably outcoached, Stampeders head coach Dave Dickenson said. They caused turnovers and scored.Roberson's three interceptions matched his season total from 2018. That was a heck of a game for him, Dickenson said. Tough to waste that type of performance and not come out of here with a win.His team down 186 after the first quarter, Ottawa head coach Rick Campbell said comingfrombehind to win the seasonopener was important in the growth of his quarterback and team. Both Hamilton and Saskatchewan have yet to hold Grey Cups in their new facilities. The Ticats' Tim Hortons Field was opened in 2015, while Mosaic Stadium, the home of the Green Riders, opened in 2017.

10 Questions Game
I got tagged by @writing-with-melon to take part! Sorry I have been gone for so long - I started University a few months ago and finding the time/motivation to get on tumblr or even do any writing at all has been a bit difficult 😅. I haven't actually worked on my A Song of Sirens WIP in ages and don't know when I'll go back to it as I'm working on other stuff, but I'll answer the questions on it anyway!
1. Which scene from your WIP would you like people to draw?
Probably the scene where Ivor and Lavinia first meet because I find it really funny. They've technically met before and have a deep dislike for each other at first.
2. Does your WIP draw some inspiration from another story? If so, which one?
I can't remember it drawing inspiration from another story in particular.
3. Which of your stories was the first to be born, like in your mind, who appeared first?
Ivor was definitely the one to appear first. The main siren.
4. Which of your OCs has been the hardest to write?
Fletcher, partly because he doesn't have as many scenes, partly because he is separated from the rest of the group and so I can't bounce him off the other characters as well.
5. What is the colour scheme of your WIP or which colours do you associate your WIP with?
Colour scheme is probably all dark blues, greens, and browns. The kind of blues and greens of a dark ocean.
6. What is the line that you've loved most from your WIP?
If I had to pick one that was kind of a favourite, I'd have to go with this one: "stupid humans and their complicated, needy feet!"
Purely because the idea of Ivor being angry over having feet instead of his usual siren tail is funny to me.
7. How do you feel about the ending of your WIP assuming you have figured it out?
Honestly, I am not entirely sure on the ending yet. Like, I know kind of what has to happen but the details aren't there.
8. Which of your OCSs would make the best Disney villain?
Lavinia I think. Like, sure, there are the actual villains in the story, but I think Lavinia has a lot of potential for an over dramatic villain, haha.
9. Do you have another WIP in the works?
There's so many, you have no idea omg
10. Which of your OCs would be your best friend in real life?
Either Mei or Jerome just because I feel like they are the friendliest and I would get along with them best.
Okay, so here are ten questions:
1. What aesthetic does your WIP have? Is it a mix of different aesthetics?
2. Does your WIP make use of any tropes?
3. What are some random facts about your OCs?
4. Did anything inspire your WIP?
5. Are there any OCs that you think you would struggle to get along with if you met them in real life?
6. Do you have any other WIPS you are working on?
7. Which scene has been your favourite to write so far?
8. Are there any scenes coming up that you are apprehensive to write?
9. Which OC has been the most fun to write?
10. Has your WIP went through any massive changes since you started writing it?
I'm tagging:
@cookiecutterwrites @raevenlywrites @maidollyganger @marvinorjack @writingrailroad @ghostpicnic-writes @coffehousecreations @nemowritesstuff @alternativeforensicscientist @esoteric-eclectic-eccentric
No pressure to take part, just looking for people to tag!
10 Questions Game round 3
I got tagged by @musicofglassandwords thanks for the questions!
Rules: Answer 10 questions, ask 10 questions, and tag 10 people!
The answers are about The Queen’s Co.
1. Describe your WIP in three words. The Queen’s Co. is an entertaining, action, clusterfuck
2. Short synopsis of your favorite scene. Cat teaches Nathaniel to dance and the others join in and it’s wholesome and beautiful.
3. What are some of the main dynamics between your OCS? They’re a family of overgrown children. But mostly they have a team dynamic, sometimes they bicker and fight and can’t stand each other but they are their own family so they stick together.
4. How do your OCs fight in danger/battle? They mostly use firearms, but Becky is the expert in that area. But when they don’t have that then, Bonaparte uses his military experience and Cat does a mix of boxing and ballet. Percy likes to use explosives and Arabella knows tai chi. Nathaniel likes to stay out of it but he does learn how to shoot. John never fights ever and Thaddeus knows a bit of boxing.
5. What are your OCs’ defining traits? Nathaniel is logical and open Catalina is bold and friendly Bonaparte is brave and loyal Thaddeus is charismatic and determined John is serious and reliable Arabella is confident and mysterious Percy is observant and thoughtful Becky is generous and optimistic
6. What inspired your WIP? Many things, the state of the world, movies, music, the steampunk aesthetic. It started off being a “what if Queen Victoria had been assassinated and that set of a chain of events that made the world get stuck in a steampunk world” and then it evolved from there.
7. What are your OCs’ fatal flaws? Nathaniel is naive and timid Catalina is selfish and impulsive Bonaparte is short-tempered and stubborn Thaddeus is arrogant and overprotective John is controlling and humorless Arabella is prideful and vain Percy is closed off and callous Becky is needy and selfless

Stories I like/know
Edit (March 2022) - this list is pretty outdated by now, and doesn’t include a lot of the newer additions - I don’t know when I’ll be able to change that or make a new better one, so it’s best to ask, especially if something’s not on here at all.
Here’s a neat list of things I’m into (in no particular order) + my favourite characters. I’m usually up for a conversation about any of them at any time, but not all of them are fresh in my memory.
Video games:
Minecraft
Minecraft: Story Mode - Lukas and Ivor (haven’t played Season 2 yet)
Monkey Island (all parts except 4) - Murray
Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis
The Neverhood Chronicles - Willie and Bil
Armikrog
A Hat in Time
Patapon (playing Pata3)
Hiveswap Act 1 (+ the Friendsims and Pesterquest)
Five Nights at Freddy’s (novels included) - Will Afton/Springtrap/Purple Guy
Undertale - Mettaton, Flowey and the skelebros. It’s a weird sort of tie between them
Deltarune (what’s out anyway) - Rouxls Kaard
OneShot - Prophetbot
Henry Stickmin Collection - Reginald Copperbottom
Hollow Knight - Quirrel
Machinarium
Portal (both) - GLaDOS
Just Shapes & Beats - the boss
Inside My Radio
Bendy and the Ink Machine

Animated shows/cartoons:

Dofus: the Treasures of Kerub (+ the film)
Gravity Falls (+ comics) - Bill Cipher
Wander Over Yonder - Commander Peepers
Over the Garden Wall (+ comics)
Hero 108 - Commander Apetrully
My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic (+ comics and some fanfics) - Discord
Villainous
Hilda - Alfur
Beetlejuice - Beetlejuice
Ninjago: Masters of Spinjitzu - Zane, Garmadon
Danny Phantom
Dan Vs. - Dan
Daria - Mr. Anthony Demartino
Whatever Happened to... Robot Jones? - Robot (with the original voice)
Avatar: the Last Airbender (+ comics) - Iroh
Kipo and the Age of Wonderbeasts - Dave
Owl House
ET Excursion (+ Haunted Library comics)
Metal Family - Glam
Daystone
Pink Corruption
Tarboy
My Little Portal
Infinity Train
Mickey Mouse Shorts
Avatar: Legend of Korra - the dynamic duo of Varrick and Zhu Li (maybe)
Steven Universe (+ movie and Future)
The Dragon Prince
Voltron: Legendary Defender (+comics)
Invader Zim (+ comics and movie) - Zim
Moominvalley
Superjail! - the Warden (actually, I don’t exactly like them, but I know them, so they stay)
Tangled: the Series (no, I haven’t seen the film yet) - King Trevor
Moomins
I also like Nergal from The Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy, but he and Grim are the only comparatively good things in the show
Books - series and authors:
Terry Pratchett - Discworld
Edwin Abbott Abbott - Flatland
Jerome K. Jerome - Three Men in a Boat, Three Men on the Bummel
Eoin Colfer - Artemis Fowl
John Tolkien - The Silmarillion, The Hobbit, The Lord of the Rings (in progress)
Stanisław Lem’s science fiction (in progress)
George Martin - Tuf Voyaging
Clive Lewis - The Chronicles of Narnia

Roger Lancelyn Green - King Arthur and His Knights of the Round Table, The Adventures of Robin Hood
Philip Reeve - Larklight Trilogy (I haven’t read #3 yet)
John Flanagan - Ranger’s Apprentice, Brotherband Chronicles
I mostly read fantasy and science fiction, as you can probably guess
Ask me if you want to know anything else, I only listed the more memorable part of all the books I’ve read
Comics:
Homestuck (+ some fanfics) - all the Noirs, Scratch, Sollux
Problem Sleuth - GPI
Helvetica
Glitch: Jinn Devodist - so far, obviously, Cadwalader
The Property of Hate - RGB, Time
Ava’s Demon
Shenanigansen’s Live With Yourself and Bluechair
xkcd
PVP Online - Scratch Fury/Kringus, Brent Sienna
Garfield
Dilbert
Jake’s Onions
Pilot
Sarah Andersen’s comics
@zarla-s’ Handplates
Nothing Special
Glacias
Gone with the Blastwave
He Is a Good Boy
Vast Error - White Noise, probably
W.I.T.C.H.
D.Gray-Man - Lero/Rero
Noragami
Other:
Doctor Who (+ Dalek comics) - the Daleks (I’m on series 13, Doctor 13)
Star Wars - C3PO
HLVRAI
Asterix et Obelix movies (animated) - Asterix
The LEGO movie franchise
Mythbusters (what I managed to catch on TV (read: not much))
Most Popular Girls in School - not exactly up to my standards with the crude language, but it is incredibly well done in many other aspects
“Atlantis: The Lost Empire” might be my favourite animated film (I haven’t thought about it extensively, but it’s way up the ranks anyway)
“The Book of Life” - Xibalba (It is another good one)
Aviators (musician)
I know “Hamilton: an American Musical”, “Heathers: The Musical” and “Les Misérables” (2012 film)
Minecraft animation in general, there are some great original series out there I could recommend (like Minequest, The Egg’s Guide or Annoying Villagers)
2D animation fan
I love songs about video games

God in a Box
God in a cloud In a womb In a box
God walked in a garden With his son of the dust
God in a garden In the cool In the dark
God spoke from a fire With his shepherd in the night
God in a fire In the heat In the light
God born from a woman Under the house of bread
God in a womb In a cave In the dirt
God perished on a tree With a crown of sharp thorn
God on a tree In a shroud In a tomb
God rose from beaten death With the light of the dawn
God king forever Of the heavens Of the earth
God with us in a box Of wheat and of wine
God in a box In the mouth In the heart

A companion piece to the poem Mothers...
Fathers:
Cupid: My arrows pierce mortals Love bleeds from the wound But alas now my immortal flesh is pricked For from the skies I have scoured long My wings in weariness fail For my bride who’s love I have in anger slain An oil burn scars my breast The stars in woven braid above me bow at my calling For many countless eyes to aid me in my search Hear me now, Oh sun and moon and sea below My love shall not be long from my side My fury is spent I’ve come to take her home again Jack: I am he of many faces Many times Countless places Many giants I have slain Many tyrants put in the grave Many enemies I have made Many maids I’ve dared to kiss Many ladies have I saved Many I’ve rescued, few I’ve missed All trades I have mastered Though I am called Rogue or bastard Many trickeries I have played: If the stars in sleep blink They’ll find the sky is stolen! Sir Orfeo: His beloved she was lovely As fair as winter dawn And at her lord’s knee sat she As he plucked string and sang song On a day in spring Heurodis His bride By the Fairy King was stolen From under a leafy tree I’ve wandered far through land and time And to this strange place my feet have led me He said I’ve come to get my bride Out of this Hell’s Heaven This Other King sits on his throne Women attend heart-sighed Glassy-eyed The dead here gathered round at table Some without head Some gored through with blade and spear Some drowned some burned Chains burned red around strangled neck A song he This lordly bard Played then to the Other court From his harp Such beauty flowed And all who heard it stilled A bargain then Said the Fairy King Since your music has now pleased me Take you bride and through gloom now lead her But take care no glance you look behind Or I shall spirit her back to her doom At his back his lady trod Through lightless tunnels And dark waters A labyrinth that twists the heart and mind But he in his lady trusted And her in him And though the trembling in his heart Whispered evil He did not turn around Till at last hope pierces the darkness In a burst of light I feel her waking Sunlight breaking Out of this happy gloom Man and wife now hand in hand Run into the dewy fields And shouts of joy The kingdom give As the true king and queen in victory return Out of the depths you have called to me Out of the depths I have rescued you He whispers My bride, my life, my friend Father time: He sits upon his porch He lingers He is in no hurry at all The mist stirs and purrs Around him Slivers of the house, awash in grey Prick him A whiskey-on-the-rocks Never empties Never melts And guards him like a watchdog Souls slip by In and out of the mist Like stitches in a quilt He watches Hand uplifted Waiting to usher them in The King Under the Mountain: Under the mountains deep and cold A youth bright-crowned (gold is his head and gold is his band) Upon a rock-carved bed he lays In slumber A sword lies in sharp wait in his hand Around the hall Silver moonlight slices in His soldiers (knights, priests, sinners, saints) All nodded head and shoulders slumped Chain mail glinting Spears Iron blades Slipped from their sleepy grasps Yet their lord’s vigil do they keep For the day when last the sun rises White as the banners, red as the cross And The King Under the Mountain With his men return in glorious trumpet and drum And our hearts with joy are mended (how silently we pled!) As his terrible army slays All wicked horde And the king takes his golden throne again

OC Intro!
Tumblr media
A Song of Sirens WIP character + first spoken words
Jerome Martine, 15 years old. Male.
Fair skin tone, dark blond hair, blue eyes. Short? Two inches shorter than Ivor.
Important points about Jerome:
* Lived in France most of his life until about a year and a half ago. Only joined the factory a few months before the start of the story
* Has frequent nightmares, usually about darkness or being left alone
* Is a little jumpy and anxious but confidence grows
* Is a beautiful writer. Has a big vocabulary and can forge any handwriting or signature presented to him
* Likes reading but takes him ages to finish any book
* Can be really chatty if you let him
So there is character five, only one more to go! I feel like this moodboard is kind of empty looking?? Not sure, but either way, here is Jerome! :D
