"I'm always lucky, Ronnie. You were lucky to be born."
Hello everyone!!! I'm doing some dark sketches today. Meet Izumi and Bumi's youngest daughter, Hina. In my version of the canon with my friend, she travels across continents, and in this one she strives to take the place of her mother and become the next dictator.
Iroh gets caught in a storm in this universe and was declared dead, which gave her a chance to become an heiress. Iroh renounces his family and finds peace with the airbenders and confronts his parents in the final battle.
Iroh and Hina are called "Blue Spirits" because of the color of their flames. Izumi and Bumi are unaware of their enmity and the power of competition. For them, both of their children are the most valuable thing they have.

And I also started the picture with Toph, Lin and Su, and I intend to finish it within, I don't know, a week?

okay some hcs because little V is bored
Izumi deeply dislikes that Iroh II is part of the United Forces, if it were up to her, he would've stayed at least in the nation's army. not that she'd ever let him know that
Azula had spies keeping an eye on Lin during a couple of years when Toph started leaving her basically on her own, to make sure she was okay
needless to say, out of all the kids of the gaang (not counting Izumi), Lin is Azula's favorite
when Izumi announces her retirement, Ursa gets furious and doesn't talk to her for days. she was a mess of frustration and anxiety until she actually talked to her mother (and broke down)
Both Iroh and Ursa have a ring with a flying boar engraved on it
sometimes Ursa needs to rant and since her brother is never in the fire nation, she goes to wherever her mother is and just rants. sometimes she'll just go to the throne room while Izumi is working and start talking. Izumi just listens to her daughter <3
Lin always knows where Izumi's glasses are. always. Izumi will sometimes call her and tell her she lost them, to which Lin response is always along the lines: "did you look (place)?". Izumi always finds them there
IZUMI IS VERY HOT WHEN SHES ANGRY OK

@orangepanic, it is with great regret I report that Ursa has once again broken into Iroh’s desk and left snarky comments on his official documents.

So, I was thinking about something in LOK.
You know the Earth Queen Hou-Ting? You know, the woman who secluded airbenders and that Zaheer killed?
Tumblr media
This one?
Well, as you all may know, she’s King Kuei’s only daughter.
I’m sure you all remember King Kuei, the puppet king with the bear.
Tumblr media
This guy.
Well, I made some calculus. He must’ve been in his early/mid 20s in ATLA. And his daughter had to be in her 50s/early 60s when she died.
In the meantime, Zuko is 87/88 in 171AG, when LOK3 takes place. Since his daughter is commonly believed to be around Bumi and Kya’s age, I’d speculate that she’s around 60 in her appearance in LOK4, in 174AG and when Zuko is 90 (Tenzin is 51 in 170AG and Kya is roughly 4 years older than him, so Izumi must be between 5 and 7 years older than him, which places her in a range between 60 and 62 years old).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(See? Roughly the same age)
So, my point? I think during their diplomatic visits, Zuko and Kuei had to spend a lot of time in each other’s company because, monarch stuff. And given that they were both heirs to their respective thrones, Izumi and Hou-Ting had to spend a lot of time together.
I don’t know why, but I imagine those two having the wildest, silliest yet most hateful beef as teens. And given Hou-Ting’s despicable behavior and authoritarian politic in contrast to what shown of Izumi, a rational leader who cares for her people, I am even more convinced that those two despised each other.
So yeah, I can’t stop picturing Izumi and Hou-Ting insulting the crap out of each other while saving face in front of the subjects. And I can’t stop laughing

Sooo
Few people remember, but my friend and I had a dark version of history, where Izumi became a dictator, and Bumi her loyal general and secret husband. Recently we decided to redraw a couple of old works and I got the idea to draw their family portrait (without Bumi's face, of course, this is illegal).
• Bumi and Izumi are passionate lovers, ready to go to any cruelty for each other. In this story, they made the wrong choice, choosing the path of war and blood to be together and take the throne together. In this story, Izumi is against a fictitious marriage with a stranger, and Bumi is the one who saves her.
Bumi renounces his family and swears allegiance to the new Firelord, his secret wife. He also tortured Zuko for years, who forced Izumi to marry against her will for the sake of preserving his own honor. In the eyes of everyone, Bumi is a madman who blindly believes in an equally crazy dictator, but in the eyes of their family he is a caring father and husband who understands how far they have come, but is ready to go to the end.
• Hina (we like this name more than Mizuki) is a more coldly aloof version of Azula, who respects her older brother, but is ready to take the throne at the behest of her mother.
• Iroh II, on the contrary, as in the canon, is more like his father and does not want to take on such a big responsibility. He is a ruthless warrior, forced to fight for the idea of his parents, but once in the temple, he renounces the throne and his family.
After the fall of Iroh's army, he is presumed dead, which finally drives his parents crazy. Now they aim to achieve the initial at any cost - to enslave all continents.

Iroh gave up his position as crown prince at around 19-20yo, after he joined the United Forces
Izumi was already teaching him and preparing him to be fire lord so it basically ruined most of what she had planned for him as heir and it forced Ursa to become the next in line for the throne
over 10 years passed and despite all her love for her son, Izumi doesn't believe Iroh would be a good fit for the crown anymore
hes a general, not a king

Going thoroughly insane over how on completely different ends Sora's and Koushirou's roles and relationships with their mothers (and in extension their parents in general) are portrayed in Adventure. And once again, it was ALL based on miscommunication:
Sora is perceived as the tradition-defying "tomboy" who is "loud" and plays football; Koushirou is perceived as the "good boy" who is always "polite and correct" and never acts spoilt or out of line. The key word here is "perceived", because we see both of them display traits in front of their peers that go beyond the "role" their parents witness (and that both of them are willingly or subconsciously displaying in front of them); Sora is actually the caring mom/big sister friend who literally and figuratively takes everyone under their wing, Koushirou is opinionated, forward and outspoken when things are dire and at stake.
Sora's mother wants her to act more like "the daughter of an ie-moto", more feminine, less out of line - at least, that is the message that reaches Sora, since her mother asks her to quit her beloved football. Her polite and aloof attitude appears to be rather cold and dismissive to Sora, which is basically what makes her rebel against the whole flower arrangement business. She feels unloved and misunderstood, as if she cannot be appreciated if she isn't "perfect" in her mother's eyes. Thus she is unable to understand that her mother may just worry about her hurting her injured leg even more. Furthermore, Sora has a very poor grasp on the fact that she herself is acting towards her friends and partner in the exact same way, albeit in a more gentle way most of the time.
Koushirou's mother wants him to be more selfish, to tell her what he dislikes and what bothers him, to stop being perfect at all times - but that is exactly what he physically cannot do, as he himself is doubting his whereabouts and simply tries to just shove all doubts and worries aside. Instead of acting "normal", he is hiding behind that barrier and mask of perfection towards his parents - and has to realize that this attitude is worrying them even more.
In the end, it all gets (mostly) resolved through them realizing that they're still loved regardless of what happened; they don't necessarily HAVE TO change, but it is up to them whether they want to or not. Meaning, their respective arcs of self-discovery have not ended yet, but the foundation for better relationships has been established here. Sora will start playing tennis (a.k.a changing her hobby) in an attempt to move towards her mother more, choosing to do so for her own sake. Koushirou will try to act more open and casual towards his parents, even though he is actively being reassured that his hobby (being into computers) is exactly what he is all about and that he doesn't have to change that.

For two of the many special people in my life; thank you for being here and promising to stay for a while. You two are awesome Unofficial Dads 🫂
(While I'm sure I'm using "sample" here incorrectly, this is just to make sure no one uses this as this is specifically for certain people. Thank you.)

The resemblance is uncanny, Maiko fans. I sure hope Zuko and Mai make up soon since the Smoke and Shadow saga is over.
