so i wanna talk about merna

merna was a little caterpillar kid who hatched from an egg, so named due to being the child of jana and mertreon; this naming convention becomes important later.

incidentally, jana would later request to be my spouse, to which i agreed because why not, i'll marry almost anyone who asks me in this game, but in any case, this made merna my stepkid.

i raised the baby with love, etc. etc., got them up to rank ten, and eventually...

...they became my first disciple, and so far the only one who's asked (the others i picked).

they were uh. very dedicated.

anyway, all's going hunky dory, when one day an incredible development happened:

i didn't know followers could fall in love with each other at all (as opposed to just falling for me) until this happened, and i certainly didn't expect it to be my stepkid with my pet cat narinder.

i decided this opportunity was too good to waste, so...

...and then...

...voilà, weird lumpy baby!

remember what i said about my method for naming babies? well, guess what.

that's right, the one who waits had a baby and i named it merder.

side note, merder would go on to be the first of my followers to request that i, you guessed it...

merna has fallen in love with leshy! well, i'm not about to claim full monopoly on polyamory (i feel like there's a pun in there), and the first baby was so cute, so i had them make an egg as well.

they would go on to have romantic adventures of their own, many of which being with their aunt/uncles/whatever-the-gender-neutral-word-for-those-is to my increasing horror, disgust, and endless amusement; mershy asked me, their stepgrandparent, for my hand in marriage once (i turned them down; i did say almost anyone; definitely not my own grandkid, blood-related or not); mermar did not ask for my hand in marriage but did ask for a wedding dress and a wedding suit to wear (the game wouldn't let me without marrying them so i didn't do that either, though weirdly enough they spoke as if i made the dress when they requested the suit), and merder became lovers and had a child with a follower who asked me to kill someone as a prank, because of course that's merder's type. but sadly this post is running out of space for images so i won't be posting pics of all that, and this post is about merna anyway.

now, i can't say they're perfect in love...

...or as a parent...

...but i still couldn't ask for a better, more memorable first disciple of the game.

Birthday Homage (Alexia Putellas x reader)

A/N: Here’s a little something in honour of Alexia’s birthday. I hope you guys like it.

4th February, the day you get to celebrate the life of your soul mate. If there is one person you are grateful for in this world, it is Alexia. From the day you met her you knew you were meant to have her in your life. Now 10 years later you thank the universe for that day. 

“Feliç Aniversari mi amor” you whisper into Alexia’s ear. 

The Catalonian sun had just started to peak through the blinds in your bedroom but the birthday girl showed no signs of waking up, she was way too comfy in your arms. 

“Alexia” you place a kiss to the soft spot behind her ear “it’s your birthday, time to wake up” 

A small groan let’s you know she is slowly waking up. Her hands move to squeeze yours, which are wrapped around her waist. 

“Bon día” she turns so that she is facing you. 

For a few seconds the two of you stay silent. It is something that happened in specific moments. You took the time to appreciate one another. 

“It’s my birthday” a small grin appears on Alexia’s face “and you have a game” the grin falters slightly. 

For the past couple of years the two of you would spend the day together doing whatever adventure you had planned but this year that couldn’t happen. 

“It is and I do but I still have a a couple of hours before we have to leave. I’m thinking I make you some breakfast then we take Nala for a walk, how does that sound?” It wasn’t what you usually did but it was the best you could offer. 

She hums in response as she buries herself deeper into your arms. 

Alexia watches you get ready for the game and enjoys the show that you playfully put on for her but she notices that you put on a pair of training pants instead of your game day shorts. It was definitely a first. 

“What?” You ask when you see Alexia eyeing you up. 

“Trousers? You always wear shorts no matter where we play in world, never mind Barcelona” Alexia was suspicious and you knew she would be but luckily for you, you had a plan. 

You proceed to pull your trousers down and given the fact that you are yet to put a top on it left you in nothing but your underwear. 

Alexia shakes her head and looks at her watch contemplating whether of not she has time for a little bit of fun. 

“Pull them up Y/N. We don’t have time” Alexia says. 

“There’s plenty of time for that later” you continue getting ready with a smirk on your face knowing that you had gotten away with it. 

A few hours later and the team heads back into the locker room after finishing the warm ups. 

“Does she know?” Mapi asks at she points to your locker. 

“No” you hold your shirt up and admire the changes the the kit man made upon your request. You never thought you would do this but Alexia had a habit of being the reason for you doing things you never imagined. 

When you lead the team out to the field you have the pre match jacket on but your shorts were on show. Alexia sat in the stands with the other injured players and you hoped that she wouldn’t be able to tell from that distance. 

“I think I’ve found one of your birthday presents” Jana nudges Alexia. 

Your girlfriend tries her best to figure out what the younger player is talking about but it isn’t until you finish taking the team photo does she see it. 

There on the back of your shirt was your last name but you didn’t have the number 7 you are known for, instead was the number 11. An homage to her. 

Like every other home match this season you look up at Alexia just before kick off and place your hand over the Barcelona badge. This time though you point to the 11 on your shorts then at her. 

The blush that fills Alexia’s cheeks in uncontrollable. The small act means a lot to Alexia and it does to you too, it’s like you have part of her with you on the pitch. 

When the final whistle blows you shake your opponent’s hands and wait for your girlfriend to come down to the pitch. Bruna is talking to you about the goal she scored which you assisted and you are so focused on her that you forget about Alexia until you feel a pair of arms wrap around your waist from behind. Knowing that you will most likely want to have a moment alone with your girlfriend, Bruna leaves and goes to Jana. 

“A goal, an assist and you ditched your 7 for my 11” Alexia recaps the match. 

“Do you like it?” You ask her. In a way it was a public display of affection. The whole world knew the reason why you changed the number and more so because of what today is. 

“I do. Will you be giving it to a fan?” Alexia asks. 

It wasn’t abnormal for you to give your shirts away after matches. Whether it was because you wanted to or because you saw a sign asking for it. 

“Is that your way of asking for my shirt?” You ask Alexia and she nods her head “now?” Again she nods her head. 

You pull the shirt over your head as slowly as possible. It is almost like you are doing a strip tease but you having to keep it PG13 given the people around you. 

What you don’t expect is for Alexia to remove her coat and put your shirt on. 

“What do you think?” Alexia ask as she twirls around. 

“The 11 suits you” you hold out you hand to lead her back into the tunnel. 

“Anything else?” Alexia asks. 

You knew what she wanted you to say. 

“The last name looks good too” you are shy as you pay her the compliment but it didn’t make what you said any less true.

Hey everybody!!! I am back from my vacation so I will be starting to post more again. I have seen everybody's requests and I will try to get as many out this week as possible.

[Part 1+prompt] [Previous part] Part 7 The medics were confused by the suggestion until Jana pulled out the holovid again. They passed it to their superiors. They passed it to theirs, who consulted a human medic, who said to check a diagram of human tongue muscles and compare it to a scan of what was at the end of Kiddo's limbs, and only try it if it looked analogous.

Then those scans got passed to superiors, to their superiors, to another human medic who asked why they thought it wouldn't work and pointed out that, if they were so concerned about it, they could try the fingerless hand first since there wasn't much room to make anything worse.

That medic said she was willing to operate if no-one else would. Her assistant was a Vul (the ones born fingerless, who grow them later) and, although they were used to the medic having success with off-the-wall ideas, they asked that for this specific case either Kiddo or Jana make an offering to the Vul god/dess of fingers before they'd feel comfortable with it. Jana considered eirself "an agnostic henotheist," more bothered by the traditional requesting-more-fingers-please offering -- *urp* -- than any notions of blasphemy against eir own religion, and took that responsibility. The operation itself, and the healing after, were faster than the fussing and paperwork had been. The medic said Peprine healed even faster than humans because they were much, much easier to injure. Yay/boo? She'd also said that, once Kiddo was fully recovered and wouldn't be re-hobbled too badly by the recovery time, she could look at its other hand.

With practice, Kiddo could now open and close the "fingers" like scissors, overlap them with the inner finger on top (but not the other way), and clench them to within about 120 degrees of its arm, which wasn't useful yet but might improve. It could pick up utensils, press buttons, hold certain sizes/shapes of objects... mostly things it could do with the two real fingers on its other hand, and somewhat less finely, but now it had two hands to work with and could, for example, hold a circuit plate firmly enough to not budge it while calibrating the... surge... widget... doohickeys... Jana wasn't really an electrics expert -- ey was planning to sign up for an adult intro class to follow along better, but they weren't held often -- but was happy to listen to Kiddo eagerly describe what it was learning in class!

After that one class, Jana had poked around the instruction scheduling until ey found a place to mark that Kiddo and Binn were not to be in classes together, or to notify em if they were. Some species had to avoid certain other species for medical reasons, or Talts avoided each other for social reasons, so that system already existed, thankfully.

But a ship was a finite space, and no good thing could last forever.

They were in the cafeteria, going down the line, putting a finger or "finger" on the tag for each offering (it would beep, buzz, click, light up, etc in an evaluation of whether a food was good for you, likely to be palatable, or if your species could even eat it) and scooping themselves some dinner when Uvair and Binn came behind them in line. "Jana! I haven't talked to you since we came home! I see you still have your castoff, it looks like it's grow--" Jana set the serving spoon down and stepped into her space, teeth bared and voice low. "Uvair. We have been friends so I am doing you the favor of making this warning explicit. I know your fucked-up treatment of disabled kids is a 'protected cultural practice,' for now." There was going to be a remedial diplomacy class in eir future, at minimum, if Uvair tattled about Jana saying that, but there weren't other words. "But human aggression to defend bond-mates is also protected. I held back my human rage when Kiddo said Binn had called it that, and I'm holding it back now. Learn better, teach your kid better, and maybe we can be friends again. Or insult my child again and I won't hold back."

Ey turned sharply, picked up eir tray with one hand and took Kiddo's hand with the other, and walked briskly to a far-off table. Kiddo set down its tray and tentatively, carefully, hugged em.

okay so the reader is friends with maeve, and one day she invites them to a party (specifically one that jake hosts, this is important) (no it’s not i just like drama)

but the reader is kind of put off by the idea since they don’t really like parties. but yk it’s just this one time and maeve seems like she really wants them to go with her so they decide to get a little more information on it so they can be prepared (idk i honestly didnt think about why they ask questions but just go along with it 😭) so they ask maeve who’s gonna be there. she says smthn like “eh idk, jake, probably the rest of his group, me obviously, and simon” (reader hasn’t met simon yet, but they know who he is, they also don’t think AT is as bad as everyone makes it out to be) (very odd take but were gonna roll with it). and so when the reader eventually goes, them and simon eventually get like alone together and he starts conversation with them (prob says like “hey, are you y/n? i think maeve has mentioned you a few times.” or something)

IM SORRY THIS IS SUCH A LONG REQ BUT YEAH!! also you can decide what happens after simon and the reader are alone together, im thinking the reader like kind of realizes ‘oh shit this guys kind of fine’ in the like 30 minutes they talk to each other BUT YOU CAN CHANGE IT HOWEVER YOU WANT🫡 (also sorry this isn’t as good as my others it was kind of rushed)

 "I’m really not sure, Maeve. I mean, I brely know anyone at Bayview, let alone Jake." Maeve was trying to convince me to go with her to a party hosted by a guy at her school. We didn’t go to the same school and I didn’t know anyone, besides Maeve and that one Simon guy, but only because he has an app or something that people are making way bigger a deal than it should be. "Oh c’mon! For all I know, you barely leave the house! I mean, if nobody knows you, that’s even better! No way for you to embarrass yourself. Pleeeease just come with I beg you."

In the end, it took a few more minutes, but she did manage to convince me. The days leading up to the party, she kept talking about it, telling me about all of the people I'd probably see. She kept bringing up Janae, I was convinced she had a thing for her, and Simon. The day of the party, though, I was considering just telling her I was sick, I wasn't really feeling like it'd go well. But I still decided to go, I said 'fuck it' and went.

Though, after only a few minutes, I had already lost Maeve. Great. I was alone at a party at someones house who I did not know, with people I didn't know. The kitchen always seemed like a good palce to go, especially when most people were outside by the pool. Also in the kitchen you can get drinks, just water to be honest, but sometimes that's really all you need. I find an unused cup and just get some water from the tap.

Suddenly, this guy walked in, and my god he was hot. Like goddamn what god or demon did his parents make a deal with to make him that attractive? I’m not even kidding, he was just that good looking. I damn near choked on my water, I had to turn around and face away from him out of embarrassment. He didn’t say anything, maybe he didn’t even notice me. He walk around like he owned the place, he knew where everything was, every cup, drink. Maybe he’s Jake’s brother or something. Or maybe that is Jake? I thought.

He suddenly seemed to notice me. "You’re new." He simply stated. I nodded, trying to stay calm. "Maeve invited me." I replied. He raised an eyebrow, making him only more attractive for some reason. "That mean you’re (Y/N)?" He asked. Holy shit hot guy knows my name. Stay cool, stay calm, you’ve got this. I nodded. "Funnily enough, I dragged her here. ‘m Simon."

WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK? THAT’S SIMON? MAEVE WHY DIDN’T YOU TELL ME HE WAS HOT?

I tried my best to stay calm and not let my shock come through. I took another sip of my drink, hoping it would help. "You don't go to Bayview, do you?" He asked. Again I just shook my head. He looked me up and down, making me even more flustered, somehow. "Shame." He said, and just... walked off. Just liek that. This man flustered me to my core and walked off like it was nothing.

Honestly I don't remember much of the rest of the party, I was really just trying to calm down, also half debating if I should switch schools. Genuinely. Luckily, Maeve soon (maybe, I do not know how long it was) came back and we decided to leave.

"So, how was it?" Maeve asked. I grabbed her by the shoulders and started shaking her. "WHY DIDN’T YOU TELL ME THAT SIMON’S HOT? THAT IS A VERY IMPORTANT THING TO KNOW!" Maeve only laughed at my reaction. "Okay, while I do agree, he is good looking, he can be a pain in the ass sometimes." I must admit my face did betray me in that moment. I found that out because Maeve gave me a look, then started laughing again.

hello! thanks for all the trivias about flowers you guys had shared, first of all, but aside from types of flowers, have you guys ever answered any question about what a florist do day-to-day, the mundane stuff they take care of, floristry equipments, how do they get their stock and what they do to process them, which people they gotta contact when it comes to the maintaining of the store, aside from the everyday people customers (mortuaries, churches)? thanks again!

We did! What you’re looking for is specifically the tag #a day in the life of a florist! But you might also find #floristic business interesting in that regard.

These two cover a lot, although I am not quite so sure anymore how much they talk about stock. Most florists that don’t have their stock delivered buy it from the wholesaler themselves, only some bring a truck, most people just show up with their own cars most of the time. Stock is bought on a regular schedule but also on a need basis depending on customer orders, although most of them can be fit into the normal schedule.

How stock is processed generally depends on what is bought. Cut flowers have to be de-leafed by third and if they’re for single display. Bunches usually just get a nicer bucket of water for presentation. Potted plants may get their bottom wrapped in nice paper with a bow for an easy present sale, others are simply neatly arranged on the store’s shelves.

Antivaxxers are up to their disinformation tricks again. This is several months old and was debunked before, but this antivaxxer “gotcha” talking point is resurfacing.

Here’s the real deal:

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) voluntarily recalled a PCR test they'd been using.

The recall was not because the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test was inaccurate. It was because they have a different test that can check for both influenza and COVID-19 simultaneously – which is known as the "multiplexed method."

We caught up with pathologist and microbiologist Jana Broadhurst, MD, PhD, to understand what this means for testing accuracy. Dr. Broadhurst is director for the Nebraska Biocontainment Unit Clinical Laboratory and Emerging Pathogens Laboratory.

A brief summary of what happened:

The CDC's original PCR test has been voluntarily recalled in favor of a more efficient multiplex PCR test

The CDC's original PCR test gave accurate, dependable results. It was not recalled because of accuracy (sensitivity or specificity) concerns

All PCR tests for COVID-19 are designed to only give positive results if SARS-CoV-2 (the virus that causes COVID-19) is present

PCR tests are more accurate and reliable than antigen tests

Does the recall mean the original CDC PCR test gave inaccurate results?

No. The PCR test was extraordinarily accurate in identifying the right virus: SARS-CoV-2.

"Just because the original test wasn't built to detect influenza doesn't mean that it wasn't accurately reporting results," Dr. Broadhurst explains. "We can be very confident that a positive result from a PCR test represents a true case of SARS-CoV-2 because of how these tests were designed."

Did previous PCR tests confuse COVID-19 cases for influenza cases?

Not at all. "The reported numbers were based on highly accurate laboratory tests," says Dr. Broadhurst. "The original test could detect the presence of SARS-CoV-2 with very high specificity," – meaning the test does its job very well.

A PCR test is an excellent identifier of COVID-19 cases, because of something called specificity. Basically, specificity means that the test is designed to only detect one type of virus. Dr. Broadhurst says, "The PCR test is validated against many different coronaviruses and common respiratory viruses, including influenza so that it would not give false-positive results." Meaning, researchers subjected the test to many different samples to see if it would give the wrong result. It correctly identified SARS-CoV-2 out of all of these samples.

So why did the CDC recall the PCR test?

The CDC is choosing to use a multiplexed PCR test rather than the original PCR test to save time.

All PCR tests give either a positive or negative result for each virus it detects. For SARS-CoV-2:

Positive means the test found SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19

Negative means you likely don't have COVID-19 – but you may have influenza or another coronavirus. So you'd have to get a second test to see if it's something else

But a multiplexed test can determine both viruses at the same time, saving the patient an uncomfortable nasal swab.

Which is a more accurate test for detecting COVID-19 – PCR or antigen?

PCR tests are more accurate than antigen tests. "PCR tests are the gold standard for detecting SARS-CoV-2," says Dr. Broadhurst. "It is the most accurate testing modality that we have. And now many PCR tests can detect both SARS-CoV-2 and influenza at the same time."

based on the overalls Bronwyn is wearing, I’m going to guess that this is the scene where Nate drives Bronwyn home after Simon dies. Also: there’s a beach and a highway which probably means that A) the Rojas live in a very wealthy and very far away area of town and B) there’s going to possibly be more beach scenes, which means the Jake, Addy, TJ beach scene in particular. And also Nate has two helmets? Who’s he driving around? Or does the show just want to practice good motorcycle habits in which case good for them.

2: next is Simon and Janae:

This specific quote, her bubbly attitude, and the face Simon makes right after she says it leads me to believe that at this point Janae is either totally on board with what Simon’s about to do, or she doesn’t know. Because book Janae hated Simon’s plan from day one. 

and then, of course, there are the shots of the Bayview Four before all the shit that goes down, which probably means that there will be a montage or some sort of their lives beforehand. 

3: also here:

Bronwyn’s crying, but she’s wearing the same shirt as she was at the lunch table which means that either she’s reading a post about herself before detention, or she’s just gotten the call about Simon. The background looks like a school, so maybe she’s looking at her real phone after Simon’s taken away because the fake one was what caused this mess?

4:

again, Addy’s looking at her phone, but wearing something different. This is probably after the big post about the Bayview Four, especially since she’s walking alone and not with Jake. 

5: look how confused Cooper is:

all the other scenes of the B4 show them looking guilty, but here Coop looks like he has no clue what Simon’s talking about. Because he doesn’t, this is about him doing steroids instead. 

6:

you tell him queen. also Bronwyn’s shoulder is next to Addy which means that this conversation happens after the teacher leaves to make sure no one was hurt during the fender-bender. 

7: notice how Simon pouring the water isn’t actually shown:

none of the narrators watched him pour the water either. It’s not very big but it’s clever

8: he’s reaching out to Nate:

looks like Coop was right, he did regret it in the end

9: this is a good callback to Nate calling Addy useless in the books:

this is probably Simon’s room? Not sure why they’d be in there but also it seems like it’s an early episode because they’re all accusing each other. And Addy says she knows everyone but Bronwyn, which probably means that the show might be going on a Bronwyn and Nate vs Cooper and Addy path until they work together. 

14: okay so Cooper just goes to abandoned parks now?

maybe to meet someone? Maybe Kris? But Kris has an apartment. 

15: the next few scenes are confusing. Addy’s taking,,, a pill. Idk what pill because she never did drugs. And Nate’s standing over a person. Maybe his dad? He’s very frantic so I think it is his dad
