Janet “Jenny” McCallum was born in Dunfermline on July 21st 1881.
Jenny, as she became known, was the eldest of the thirteen children of John and Jenny McCallum. Her father worked on the construction of the Forth Bridge. She worked in a linen weaving factory and she was unusual in becoming a working-class woman who was active in the women’s suffrage movement.
In 1907 she organised what was called a “Great Demonstration” where the national leaders of the Women’s Social and Political Union would come to West Fife.
By 1908, she had joined Anna Munro in the Women’s Freedom League. The league was a break away group from the WSPU who objected to the autocratic management of the Pankhursts. By 27 October 1908 she was in London. She had abandoned her job in a Dunfermline linen factory. She and 14 others were arrested after staging a demonstration in Old Palace Yard outside the houses of parliament; “a newspaper report says "four very athletic suffragettes clambered on a statue”.“. She was given the choice of paying a £5 fine or serving a sentence and chose a one month sentence. After leaving Holloway Prison she went to Glasgow on behalf of the WFL.
She returned to Dunfermline and after some time she went back into work so that she could help support her mother and sister. She married Harry Richardson in 1915 and they had three children. In 1919 she came to the fore in a dispute with the Scottish National Housing Company. She gathered attention for the Rosyth tenants who were involved in what was presented as a women led rent strike. The dispute led to some tenants appearing in court and McCallum was able to arrange for Sylvia Pankhurst to speak on their behalf.
In the 1920s Harry and Janet decided to emigrate as there was little work in Scotland. By the time votes for women were agreed, she was living in South Africa. McCallum died in Pretoria in South Africa 1946.

BROOKE D’ORSAY AND RYAN PAEVEY REDISCOVER THE MAGIC OF CHRISTMAS IN ‘A FABLED HOLIDAY’ A NEW, ORIGINAL MOVIE PREMIERING DECEMBER 3, ON HALLMARK CHANNEL
Part of the Network’s Annual “Countdown to Christmas” Programming Event
STUDIO CITY, CA – November 15, 2022 – Brooke D’Orsay (“Wedding of a Lifetime,” “Royal Pains”) and Ryan Paevey (“Two Tickets to Paradise,” “Coyote Creek Christmas”) star in “A Fabled Holiday,” a new, original movie premiering Saturday, December 3 (8 p.m. ET/PT), on Hallmark Channel as part of the network’s annual “Countdown to Christmas” programming event.
Talia (D’Orsay) and her childhood best friend Anderson (Paevey) delight in the pages of A Wunderbrook Christmas Story, in which a town full of Christmas spirit restores its visitors during their times of deep turmoil. Years later, Talia is a stalled writer who’s given up her pen, and Anderson is a doctor, shaken after a patient’s passing. They unexpectedly reunite in a curiously similar-looking town depicted in the book they loved, along with widower Charles (John Prowse, “Riverdale”) and soon-to-be divorced couple, Keith (David Attar, “Autumn in the City”) and Diane (Carmel Amit, “Virgin River”). The local townspeople, led by Judy (Rochelle Greenwood, “Peacemaker”) and Miles (John Murphy, “Martha’s Vineyard Mysteries”), worry they may not fulfill their mission in time for the closing Night of Wunder event this year, putting access to the secretly magical town in jeopardy. Nonetheless, as these visitors enjoy the town’s Week of Wunder festivities, with the clock ticking, each person is slowly starting to heal.
“A Fabled Holiday” is BRB Pictures production. Jenni Baynham, Chaya Ransen and Kristofer McNeeley are executive producers. Robyn Wiener serves as produce. Ruby Munro directed from a story written by E.S. Dolan Dix and Samantha Herman.

Jenny Munro, the best among titans. She is a Wiradjuri Elder who established various health and community programs in the iconic inner city suburb of Redfern. She founded the Aboriginal Tent Embassy in Redfern that brokered a phenomenal deal with the Government to provide affordable housing for Aboriginal people. She continues to lead the fight to this day, as gentrification threatens The Block. She represents Aboriginal rights at every small and large protest and community event in Sydney and nationally with profound wisdom and clarity on the importance of sovereignty for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

It was a pleasure to be both production coordinator and stills photographer for this spectacular documentary for BBC 2. I have been given permission to share a selection of the cleared publicity stills I took.
Description from the BBC Iplayer website:
From Orava Castle in Slovakia, the location used in the classic vampire film Nosferatu, Mark Gatiss journeys to the London Library on the trail of Bram Stoker’s newly discovered research literature. From the UK, Mark flies to Philadelphia in the United States, where he studies Stoker’s hand-written notes and examines the abandoned ideas, story lines and characters which went on to become his world-famous story.
Mark meets with actors, including reuniting seven Hammer brides, film experts and historians as he explores the count’s transition from page to screen, from Bela Lugosi’s Hollywood to Christopher Lee’s terrifying incarnation, then finally coming face to face with the new Dracula himself – Danish actor Claes Bang.
This documentary explores and celebrates the icon of popular culture, asking just why we keep coming back to the count.
