📚 STUFF I READ 📚
🥰 The Man Behind the Curtain (seitentaisei) - 71K, SuperBat getting together fic - "A character study of Bruce Wayne, the Batman, as told by Clark Kent as he sorts through the stories, the acting, and the news to find the real man behind the masks. What exactly can Clark do if he maybe finds himself falling in love along the way?"
😍 Casual Encounters (MoreThanSlightly (cadignan)) - 66K, modern no-powers shrinkyclinks - always forget just how incredible this fic is! the pining and angst are truly exquisite while we know they're being two dumbasses standing in a pine forest. plus the descriptions of steve's painting are incredible.
😊 Dear Enemy (GingerTodgers) - 69K, drarry - breezy & lighthearted epistolary fic, some voices maybe a trifle OOC but entertaining
💖💖 +147K of shorter fic so shout out to these I really loved 💖💖
king (nerd) steve harrington (sky_of_starflowers) - Stranger Things: steddie, 3K - steve accidentally reveals his nerdy side and eddie *really* likes it
Dustin Henderson and the Lovebirds (pukner) - Stranger Things: steddie, 9K - "five times Dustin Henderson was subjected to Eddie Munson being gross and sappy and in love with Steve Harrington, and one time Steve didn't even have to be there" - short but absolutely hilarious with excellent podfic (I read the fic and then listened to the podfic the next day, so great both times!)
“Never So Young As That”: 20 Years of the Boy with a Bat (greatunironic) - Stranger Things: steddie, 6K - lovely new vingette in this universe
Patterns of Intention (drunktuesdays) - TW: sterek, 17K - canon-divergent post s3?, stiles and derek decide to take lessons from deaton and then feelings [technically a reread but it's been at least 5 years]
serpentine serenade (thiccbuckybarnes) - MCU: stucky, 3K - antastic & filthy pwp with naga!steve and modern (but still former WS) bucky [reread]
Beyond the Yellow Book Road (crinklefries) - MCU: shrunkyclunks, 30K - wonderful and tender shrunkyclunks where steve discovers 1 thing from his past that's still around -- a beloved bookstore now run by bucky [reread]

cheering and applauding when this monster expert says how disturbing the popularity of true crime is, how fundamentally different it is from the horror genre, how it is making spectacle of the suffering of real people and can desensitize us to violence where in many ways horror can sensitize us to the pain of others

If anyone is looking for a entertaining and very informative podcast I really recommend Ologies with Alie Ward. Basically she interviews experts on all kinds of random topics and it’s super interesting. I haven’t listened to a lot of it but i do think a lot of people would enjoy it.

rosewater and night light for the ask game?
(and I'll bring some snacks to the sleepover! :D How do soft pretzels and fruit sound?)
FUCK YEAH! THOSE SOUND GREAT!
Rosewater; what does your ideal night routine look like?
Ideally, I would wipe my face with a cleansing wipe, put on some moisturizer, burn a nice candle, listen to a calm podcast, and crochet for a bit (or read, without the podcast). Unfortunately, I don't really do that, and I don't know why? ... I should start doing that...
Night light; what's on your nightstand?
I actually don't have a nightstand; just my bookshelf is next to my bed. I have a little analogue clock, books, a fuji film camera, and plushies though.

rose— do you believe in soulmates? why or why not?
No I don't, and I think the idea of soulmates can be a dangerous one. I'll allow Benjamin Karney, professor of social psychology at the University of California specializing in the study of marriage, to explain. I've felt this way for a long time, but he has a better way of saying it.
This is from an interview he had with Alie Ward on her podcast Ologies. (Wonderful podcast BTW)

Thanks for the ask!

"It’s November and you need chill vibes. And Native American Heritage Month is the perfect time to encore this classic. World-renowned author, botanist, Indigenous ecology professor and bryologist Dr. Robin Wall Kimmerer, author of “Gathering Moss” and “Braiding Sweetgrass,”  talks about her passion for moss. Cozy up for the most beautifully doled-out information about hidden worlds, overlooked mysteries, botanical drama, forests in miniature, Native peoples’ uses for moss and philosophies about science and ecology. Dr. Kimmerer will change the way you see mosses forever, will inspire you to wear a loupe on a rope, and will soothe your soul with her beautiful voice and prose. Also bathmats, lawns and smoothies made of moss? We discuss."

I'm listening to a great podcast episode, all about garbage and trash and recycling and the meaning of trash in our lives.
Discard Anthropology (GARBAGE) with Robin Nagle
from Ologies with Alie Ward
Landfills! Treasures in the trash! Corporate conspiracies! Composting! An instantly classic conversation with the incredibly knowledgeable, frank and wonderful Dr. Robin Nagle of New York University’s Liberal Studies! She is a clinical professor, author, TED speaker and former New York City sanitation worker and truly the best person on Earth to trash talk with. We cover what you can and can’t actually recycle, sticky mustard bottles, drugs in the trash, Swedish Death Cleaning, mobsters and landfills, Bitcoin in the dump, the future of garbage and exactly how screwed we are.
Not to be utterly conceited, but at the point I've learned a number of things from it or had some great 'ah ha!' moments, it's got an impressive amount of good information and thought provoking content.

I listen to this science podcast and the other day I was listening to an old episode about Phenology (not to be confused with racist Phrenology), which is the study of fall/the transition into fall. They were talking about how nature journaling is important to that field because sometimes they use people’s old journals for learning about plants and animals. That being said, I figured I already post so much about nature that I might as well start journaling seasonal changes/cues !!
