I have this hc where Steve and Billy get together and decide to tell the party + Joyce, Jonathan and Hopper

At the beginning they're all a little wary about this relationship (maybe except for El) but they slowly change their mind watching the two of them when they don't know it: the way they look at each other, the way Billy approaches Steve from behind and holds him close, the way they sneak outside the room to spend some kissy time on their own, the way Steve always stands by Billy if there's an argument with one of the kids, the way they keep growing and healing together.

I love this idea!!! <3

I think that when they finally decide to do it, they call a meeting of sorts at the Byers after asking Joyce if it was alright and invite everyone in their close group of people. (Aside from Nancy because Steve decides he wants to tell her separately, because while they’re still friends she can tend to be especially judgy.) Everyone would know it was important because the Byers’ house was like the place where all the official important stuff was discussed.

They’d stand in the center of the room while everyone sits around them on the furniture and on the floor. And there would most definitely be an awkward silence before they start speaking. Everyone would already be apprehensive just because it’s Billy and Steve up there and it seemed to them that whatever would come out of their mouths couldn’t be good.

Steve would stall for a little bit being like, “Okay, so me and Billy have been thinking about this for a while and we were scared at first, but we bot think we’re ready now and-” Then Billy would want to just want to get over with and be like, “We’re together, we’re dating, the whole nine yards, we’re boyfriends.” And the chatter would start almost instantly with a whole mixture of emotions.

El, Will, and Max would be so excited for them, quickly going to congratulate them. El would pull them into a big bear hug with both her arms wrapped around their neck and she’d say, “I knew it.” Softly to them and they, really, didn’t want to know what they meant, how she ‘knew’, so they would brush it off. Will would give them a more distant and quiet congratulations just telling him that he was happy for them, giving him their support and they would both appreciate it. Max would be the one to give Billy the ‘Don’t you dare hurt Steve’ talk and then turn around and give Steve the ‘Don’t you dare hurt Billy’ talk.

The rest of the group would be more hesitant. I think Dustin would be the most defensive, the most protective over Steve if you will. Because he’s seen Billy, knows what he’s capable of and more than anything he’s just scared for Steve. Mike, Lucas, and Will would give Steve the talk right in front of Billy being like, ‘Are you 100% sure about this. I mean, you can have like any girl- or guy, you want, right? What him, he almost killed Lucas, like, a few months ago. What if he gets mad and, like, hits you or something.’ And it would get to the point where Billy would literally excuse himself to the bathroom because he feels like nobody supports them because everybody’s against him. And Steve would be disappointed in the boys because he made Billy feel like a bad guy without giving him a chance.

Steve would give Billy a little time before walking to the bathroom to check on him. He would be so upset and heartbroken to find his brick wall of a boyfriend crying on the seat of the toilet. He would instantly move to kneel between his legs and put both hands on his cheeks and wipe away his tears with his thumbs. Billy would try to brush it off like he was just being over dramatic and it was nothing. Steve would reassure him and tell him that what they thought of their relationship didn’t matter to him and that all that mattered was that he loved him. And that would be their first time exchanging ‘ I love you’s’ in the Byers’ bathroom and they wouldn’t have had it any other way.

Joyce would walk in while Steve was kissing different spots on Billy’s face, trying to cheer him up. And Billy would be laughing until his face was rosy red with glee. And they wouldn’t notice Joyce at first, she would just watching them, take in how happy they seemed together. But then Steve, out of the corner would apologize for taking so long and Joyce would make it clear that she was more than okay with it and she would tell them that they seemed like such a good pair and she was really happy that they found each other and now it would be Steve’s turn to cry out of happiness and feeling loved by someone who he thought of as a mother figure since his mother wasn’t home that much.

Once they finally come out and join the rest of the group, the conversation would have moved on to something else, everybody talking in their respective groups.

I think Hopper would be a little in the background of all of this, not really knowing what to say to them. He didn’t exactly have any experience with gay couples and even if he didn’t exactly understand he would still be supportive. When they are about to leave Hopper would pat them both on the back and tell them that they were good boys and Billy would never forget that moment, it would always be in the back of his brain even after they move away.

Jonathan would never really voice his support, but he would be supportive from the beginning. While he would never really voice it he would show that he supported in small ways like shutting down anybody questioning that they were more than friends and things of the sort. I think both boys would know that Jonathan supported him that he wouldn’t need to say it directly for them to feel supported by him.

And YES!! I think that the people who were apprehensive would come around when they see how good that Billy cares for Steve and how good the boys are together they’d come around. Like when they’re all together for dinner on Tuesday nights people would pick up on the way that Billy would offer to get Steve’s food for him and the way Steve would offer to throw away their plates. They’d see how after dinner they’d settle together on the couch, Steve with Billy’s head in his lap, running a hand through his hair and over his full belly.

They’d pick up on all the little ways they work together as a team and they’d all slowly come to the realization that they really are perfect for each other no matter wither of their flaws.
