Twins Hold On For Series Win!

The Minnesota Twins snapped a big four-game losing streak last night and looked for a series win tonight at home against the Angels. Anaheim was ready from the start as Taylor Ward crushed a Zebby Matthews fastball out to center for a solo homer in the first. The Twins countered with a Matt Wallner solo homer to tie the game at one after one inning of play. The Angels flexed their muscles again in the third as Nolan Schanuel smacked a Zebby Matthews cutter out to right for a solo homer. This put Anaheim up by a run, but Minnesota would rally in the fourth. Carlos Santana and Trevor Larnach started it with singles. Willi Castro singled home a run and Brooks Lee doubled home a pair. This put the Twins up 4-2 after four innings of play. The Angels wouldn't go away quietly as Jordyn Adams belted a Jorge Alcala fastball out to left in the sixth. This pulled the Angels within a run heading into the final innings. The Twins would rally in teh seventh when Christian Vazquez singled and Eddie Julien doubled to right. Carlos Santana was intentionally walked to load the bases and Royce Lewis hit a ball off the top of the wall for a ground-rule double. Two runs scored on the play and the Twins lead grew to three. Griffin Jax threw two hitless innings and Jhoan Duran got into some trouble in the ninth. Niko Kavadas and Jordyn Adams singled. Nolan Schanuel kept the game alive with a run-scoring single to center. Michael Stefanic grounded out to end the game and the Twins held on for the series win tonight.

-Final Thoughts- Zebby Matthews lasted just 3 1/3 innings and allowed two runs on five hits with two walks and five strikeouts. Rocco was going to manage this game llke a playoff game with an off day and the bullpen rested. Cole Sands got out of the fourth, Caleb Thielbar struck out two, and Jorge Alcala gave up a homer in 1 1/3 innings. Griffin Jax fanned two over two hitless innings. Jhoan Duran gave up a run with two strikeouts in the ninth. Trevor Larnach, Royce Lewis, and Christian Vazquez had two hits each. The Twins hit 3-for-11 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base. The Twins have tomorrow off before the Reds come to town. Bailey Ober will start in the series opener on Friday night.
