Today is the day, guys. Let me introduce you to my OC Joseph E. Miller! Joe for friends.

Joseph was born on February 17th, 1949. In 1959 his family moves to New Jersey, where he meets Pines twins. They become close friends, but 6 years later Joe leaves town without a warning. In 1967 he goes to Backupsmore University, where in 1969 he meets one of the twins again. Joseph graduates in 1971 and goes back to hometown to help run his parents’ store. In 1977 he goes on a trip around the country on saved up money. 2 years later he runs into Stetson Pinefield. They travel together for a while, but get parted after an accident. Joseph continues travelling until he comes across a newspaper with the news of Stan Pines' death. He immediately heads to Gravity Falls in 1985 to check on old friend.

So yeah, here it is! In this timeline Pines twins were born on June 15th, 1951 (I rely on fordtato’s timeline from their video essay), what makes Joseph two years older. By the way, I would appreciate asks about him<3

The X-files: I Want to Believe premiered on July 25, 2008. The second theatrical release came out five years after the end of the first run of the TV series. The original idea was to conclude the alien invasion plot, but when Fox insisted on continueing the X-Files as a TV series, they decided to make the second film as a "monster of the week" plot. The movie was dedicated to Randy Stone, who cast the pilot episode including finding David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson in the leads. While X-Files creator Chris Carter had directed television episodes, this was the first film he directed. The F.B.I. had reached out to former Special Agent Dana Scully (Anderson), who had gone back to being a Medical Doctor, to have her contact her former partner Special Agent Fox Mulder (Duchovny). They promised to clear his record (he had been on the run since X-Files "The Truth" - 2002 ) if he helped ASAC Dakota Whitney (Amanda Peet) find a missing F.B.I. Agent. The reason for wanting Mulder's help was due to his experience with the paranormal as they were being helped by a disgraced priest Father Joseph Crissman (Billy Connolly) who claimed to have visions about the case. Scully and Agent Mosley Drummy (Xzibit) both thought Crissman was a fake. Meanwhile, Scully was busy dealing with a medical sittuation not wanting to give up on Christian Fearon (Marco Niccoli) a child who had been diagnosed with a condition with no proven cure. Besides Mulder and Scully, the only official cameo from the TV series was Walter Skinner (Mitch Pileggi). However, Chris Carter, Stephen E Miller and Venessa Morley had appeared on the show but as different characters. ("X-Files: I Want to Believe", flm, Event)

OH I LOVE HIS DESIGN! Also big kudos to the fact that you literally described his story in a chronological order, that's very clever and hard to do!

I love his clothes, I want these outfits on me RIGHT NOW! And just in general, he's very cool looking!! Also love how you were able to connect him to the rest of the characters, because it's usually pretty difficult to do when you want to make a character who actively interacts with the canon characters. Again, big kudos on that!!!

This isn’t particularly well written, but here you go! The main characters -

Edward Beckett (Pale af, English boi)

Joseph Miller (American Boi)

March 25th 1944

Joseph sits in the wooden booth, a pint sat in front of him. The pub is relatively quiet tonight. No gentle piano music playing which he solely misses.

Where’s Edward?

A gentle sigh falls from his lips, bowing his head not noticing as a woman slides next to him. Not until she speaks.

“Wondering where Edward is?” The voice startles him.

“Marjorie?” He splutters out.

She hums softly staring at him with a knowing expression, it’s like she see’s through him. Knows something he doesn’t even know about himself. “That’s me.”

“Was Edward sent ba-“

“Back to war?” She shakes her head, “no, no. He’s here actually.’

Joseph glances around, excitedly trying to spot Edward’s frame in the empty pub, only to twist in confusion when he can’t spot him. “Where?”

Marjorie chuckles, “Oh no no, not in here joe.”

“What?”

“Just follow me.”

Marjorie slips off the seat, heading towards the bar calling something over to the barkeep. “Gareth, my dear. Me and My friend here would like the special.”

The barkeeps, Gareth looks over to Joseph skeptically. Unsure of whether or not to trust the well built American. “Are you sure ms beckett?” He askes quieter out of Joseph’s ear shot. She nods gently, “I’m positive.” She glances back to him. “Come on you.”

“Where?”

“Just follow.” She chuckles.

He does, confused as they head behind through a concealed door, descending down the stairs that follow. Marjorie speeding ahead, clearly excited.

“Wait.” He called to death ears as she disappears through another door.

Joseph stops, looking through the door. His mouth fallen slightly agap, the room is full of young men and woman. The familiar sound of a gentle piano in the background, Edward is playing. A peaceful expression adorned his face as he watches men dance with other men. Others might call it contempt, yet even from afar Joseph can see the hidden longing behind his dark eyes.

Marjorie grins, “Well?”

Joseph hates having to drag his eyes away from Edward. But he cannot ignore the woman who brought him to this safe haven. “How did you?”

She smiles, her arm slipping around his, linking them together as she begins leading them through the room. “We people have to stick together.” Marjorie offers as her only explanation sending a coy wink in his direction. He doesn’t know how to respond, an overwhelmed feeling washing over him. Marjories gloved hand rubs his arm in a calming manner, giving a reassuring squeeze.

“Edward.” Her soft voice calls.

Edward’s eyes glance towards them, widening slightly as they land on Joseph, tripping him up, stunting the beautiful tune he was playing. Though, he recovers quickly and ends the song shorter than expected.

“Joseph?” Edward stands, unsure of what else to say. As Marjorie pushes the handsome American soldier in his direction. “Edward…” the name leaves his lips in nothing more than a whisper as he holds out a hand, “dance with me.”

Edward doesn’t utter a word his hand sliding into Joseph’s, their fingers intertwining. Slotting together in away that tells the one another that this is exactly what the other was missing. Heading to the dance floor as Marjorie slides onto the little bench, ready to take over on piano duty to play her favourite tune.

Joseph pulls Edward close, his hand resting on the small of his back. The corner of his lips turning up, as they fall easily into step with each other. Neither fighting to take lead as they move around the floor, body’s flowing together in perfect harmony as Marjorie begins to sing.

Edward who’s never been the strongest dancer is shocked at just how simple it is with Joseph, unaware of how he’s able to dance in such a way. With others he could never find a flow, constantly tripping over his own two feet falling into the other man or occasional woman he danced with. But with him it’s so easy. Edward stares, taking in every detail of the mans face with each moment that passes, falling a little more in love with every second.

Joseph, despite being younger than Edward by 4 months, appears older, with kind eyes that are dark like his own and gentle creases coming off the corners as he stares at him with such a tender expression, smile lines present on his forehead and the bump on Joseph’s nose is hard not to love, so up close.

Neither of them speak a word, the truth is they don’t need to. Enough was said with ease of the dance. Following each other’s steps without hesitation or quarrel. Getting lost in the music taking no notice of how much time has truly passed. Edward even resting his head on Joseph’s shoulder at one point, showing his comfort with him in a way Marjorie nor Patrick, for that matter had ever seen before.

Patrick had been sat in the corner since the start of the evening, he did this on occasion always wanting to see his grandchildren for who they really are, hating how they had to hide themselves in everyday society. It was the reason he built this place in the first place. Having no other truly safe space for them. They flourished. Marjorie had always been the flirtatious type, though her true feeling were often masked. Here, she could respectfully and safely flirt with whichever woman she liked.

Edward for the majority of the time played his music, the raw forms of songs he could not sing to general public without changing the pronouns or subject entirely. Patrick always enjoyed them no matter the topic or whomever the subject. The piano melody always complemented the lyrics in such a fashion nobody honestly seemed to fully understand. Only Edward. He enjoyed watching people dance to them it brought him joy, he’d confessed that much to Patrick on a quiet day when prompted.

Though, Patrick always feared a deeper reasoning to Edward’s reluctance to join in on the festivities. A broken heart often crossed his mind, unrequited love. The possibility of him falling in love with a man who might even throw several punch’s in his direction, if he ever found out the truth is all Patrick feared for his grandson. So seeing him dance so freely with Joseph is like a breath of fresh air to the older gentleman, a smile gracing his expression as he observes.

Cabinet Endorsements

One thing that's flown a bit below the radar in this election is that former cabinet members haven't been acting like they usually do. Normally, former cabinet members will automatically endorse their former boss for re-election, but Trump's have not been doing that.

This is of particular interest because, while we, the voters, get to see the President give speeches and the like, we don't actually work with him. Presumably a cabinet member is someone who agrees with the president and who the president trusts and who gets to work closely with the president, so their opinion of the president is an important benchmark.

With that in mind, let's take a look at the 44 former cabinet members of the Donald J. Trump administration and the 2 former cabinet members of the Joseph R. Biden administration. I'll put an (E) next to the ones that have endorsed their former boss, an (H) next to the ones who haven't yet, and an (R) next to the ones who have outright refused to do so.

The first thing we notice, obviously, is that there are a whole lot more former Trump cabinet members. This is partially because Biden is still in office so his 23 current cabinet members are not counted (it'd be a huge surprise if they didn't endorse him and they probably wouldn't still be working for him if they didn't), but it's also because Trump had way above average turnover for cabinet officials, 19 in the first four years not including the 5 who resigned due to his handling of the 2020 election results (not included because Biden hasn't reached that point in his first term yet), while Biden has had far below average turnover, only 3 so far.

So a lot more people shuffling in and out of the Trump administration, but we also notice a ton more H's than E's there. Heck, there's almost as many R's among Trump's people as there are E's (5 to 7). Meanwhile, Biden's shooting 2 for 3 and the third one hasn't (at least not that I could find) ruled out endorsing him.

Keep in mind, endorsing the nominee of your party is pretty much the bare minimum that any party operative needs to do. Imagine if you applied for a job somewhere, the first question was "do you think this company should be in business", and you answered "no". You probably wouldn't be getting a job there. In other words, refusing to endorse has some big consequences for the people doing it, not just costing them a job in the potential next Republican presidency, but locking them out of the party entirely, and yet a good deal of the people who worked for Trump disliked working with him so much that they're doing it anyways.

As I said, this tends to fly below the radar because it's kind of a formulaic ritual; of course members of the President's party who are closely tied to him are going to endorse him for re-election! That's why you should pay attention now that most of the people who've worked with Trump aren't doing so. It says something, something big.

fun fact, joseph is a qualified dd&md player and attends a club dedicated to it! that’s how he met fiddleford actually:) fidds wanted to introduce joe to ford which led to their legendary reunion (and an argument, oopsie) well, joe immediately accepted fiddleford as a part of his family and unofficially became defender of our nerds (picking on his friends? well, deal with his passive aggression that’ll break you)

joe had quite a reputation back in college days… he was known for hating bullying of any kind, so people knew that if you caught his eye while bulling someone, you should retreat as soon as possible or else you’ll regret your existence

joseph is a drummer! he used to take part in backupsmore’s music contests with a couple of his friends, but has never won any of them:( oh, he also was trying to learn how to play the banjo from fidds, but was never able to master it, poor guy

Jeffrey Dahmer was a terrifying person and no one should forget that

Because of the Dahmer Netflix series, always more people approached the case and informed themselves by reading books or following old interviews. Jeffrey Dahmer’s figure is been brought back and became subject of discussion worldwide again after 30 years. He became a trend topic but it has also aroused much criticism, especially from the families of the victims.

But Jeffrey Dahmer was different, he was a unique type of serial killer, and this is the reason why he made people feel so fascinated. His crimes were gruesome, horrible and extreme, something that the human mind struggles to understand, yet Jeffrey Dahmer wasn’t a sadistic psychopath and he felt some kind of remorse too. At the end, he also wanted and tried to help victims’ families he felt sorry to. He’s indeed a man who surprised people with his behaviors and so many people came close trying to figure him out. But like a double-edged sword, some people’s response isn't all puppy dogs and rainbows.

People felt close to him, after the news broke out many people find themselves to feel for Jeffrey. It’s not a very big new news, the most infamous serial killers always found out themselves having “groupies” often assisting at their trials, or people writing to them stating how similar they felt. In the worst occasions, it was a case of Hybristophilia.

In modern days the same thing is happening and it’s too easy to forget the man’s abhorrent crimes. Too easily people tend to minimize the eerie of the acts, making appear Jeffrey like a wounded victim as well. Jeffrey suffered for some things too, and had a couple of mental diseases. It was undeniable that he too was a human being and displayed of human emotions. “Humanising” a serial killer is not a bad thing, it makes us realise we don’t have a monster but another person. Defining a criminal “monster” or “devil” only help us to dissociate from him, not considering him “one of us”. It makes us feel safer, having a demoniac entity to point the finger to, but the sad truth criminals are humans as well. Jeffrey was human.

But in the other side, some people tended to overemphasize the man’s problems too much, and made him become a new victim. But Jeffrey Dahmer was a murder first of all and took the life of 17 innocent people. He was selfish and careless, he saw people as objects for his own sexual purposes and he disposed of them when they were no longer needed.

His modus operandi was the same: inviting the person at home, drugging them, raping them, killing them, using the corpse how he wanted to then disposing the body. Jeffrey’s first victim was named Steven Hicks. It was 1978 and Jeffrey was just 18 years old. He found himself alone at home and decided to take a ride with his car. It’s when he met Steven, a hitchhiker, and together reached Dahmer’s house to have some fun. June 18 1978, the last day Steven Hicks was seen alive, his parents were waiting for him to come home to celebrate his dad’s birthday. Dahmer killed him because he didn’t want to let him go, he tried to dispose the body throwing the parts from a ravine he knew but when a police office stopped him he decided to spread the rests on the yard behind his house. After 9 years he tried to behave correctly trying to moderate his impulses, but in September 15, 1987 he fell again and Steven Tuomi, a 24 years old man, became his second victim. Dahmer put him in a suitcase and disposed of the body at the grandma’s house. Following these two killing accidents, many more would follow, and Dahmer would eventually surrender. He gave in to his impulses, making a total of 17 victims, among which two were minors of 14 years old of age. In between of the years before the homicides arrest, Dahmer was arrested for other crimes as indecent exposure, disorderly conduct and sexual assault of a 13 year old boy, Somsak Sinthasomphone. After that he was followed by probation officer Donna Chester, they had to meet twice a week, and even if Dahmer was a cooperative client, he never expressed himself about the crimes he was committing and he didn’t seek for help. He continued to commit his crimes, drugging and raping attractive gay men he found, killing some as well. He kept rests of the victims, reducing what was left to three black garbage bags, and so from a day to another a human being was wiped off the face of the Earth. And more he continued, less careful he became, turning himself into a killing machine. He lost his job, he was going to loose the apartment as well, but he was only interested to follow a sexual pleasure, trying to find more boys to carry home. He wondered around the place unstoppably asking from a man to another to come to his house, when the escape of Tracy Edwards followed and Dahmer was subsequently arrested.

“One of his workmates, Richard Burton, was driving with a friend when he saw him standing on a street corner and gave him a ride. Dahmer said he wanted to get out of Wisconsin and go to Florida. Burton wished him luck, and he got out. To his friend, Burton said he thought Jeff had ‘lost it all’ – no job, no friends. A little later he spotted him again talking to a black man at a bus-stop.

On 21 July, after dismembering the body of Joseph Bradehoft, he was wandering around the Grand Avenue Mall where, in two separate incidents, he propositioned Hispanic men with the invitation to earn money by posing for pictures and watching videos. They were Joseph Rosa and Ricardo Ortiz. Both refused.

The events of 22 July depict a mind at once unfocused, listless, and delirious, unhinged. Dahmer got up late, in the midst of his human debris, and went out for a beer. Sopa Princewill accosts him in the corridor with a 40-ounce bottle, and warns him that he may not last until his lease runs out at the end of the month – he may be evicted sooner because his place smelt so awful. He listens, but does not react in any noticeable manner. He goes downtown and is walking along 3rd Street near Wells Street at 2 p.m. when he sees a black man sitting on a sidewalk bench. This is twenty-year-old Ormell Holmes. He asks Holmes if he wants to earn $50. What do I have to do for that? asks Holmes. Pose for pictures and drink some rum. Holmes indicates that he is not interested in that kind of thing, and Dahmer moves on. He approaches another man in the same street, with the same result.

He now goes to his favourite haunt, the Grand Avenue Mall, and has some fast food. He is seen there at 3.30 talking to a man on one of the benches. A little later, he asks a sixteen-year-old black boy called Anderson to come home with him and watch movies, and his offer is again declined. At 4.30 Dennis Campbell, who works at Milwaukee’s famous German restaurant, Karl Ratzch’s, is in the Mall with his girlfriend Julie Weyer, and goes to the men’s room on the first floor. Having urinated, he is drying his hands on a wall dryer when the door opens and a scruffy white man with several days’ growth of beard walks in and stands behind him, then moves beside him. There is no long preparatory choreography. The white man says straight out, ‘Do you want to make fifty dollars real quick?’ ‘Doing what?’ says Campbell. ‘Come to my apartment and watch videos.’ ‘I don’t think so,’ says Campbell, and the man, whom he thought ‘weird, creepy and very unusual’, says, ‘O.K.’ He told Julie about it afterwards and she laughed.”

what kind of books do you like reading?

My favorite era is 19th century Russian literature. Some of my favorites from there are Dead Souls by Gogol, Fathers and Sons by Ivan Turgenev, Eugene Onegin by Alexander Pushkin, and Oblomov by Ivan Goncharov (I was utterly baffled as to why everyone was talking about Ivan Goncharov when I came back to Tumblr!). I loved a lot of early 20th century American literature, in particular F. Scott Fitzgerald, who was an early hero, and I also read a lot of Joseph Heller and Vladimir Nabokov (Russian/American). I've read everything by Franz Kafka—even the bizarre stuff, like Amerika—and loved it all. My favorite writer of all time is Virginia Woolf, and I love reading writers who experiment with style (Lewis Carroll, of all people, has a nice early example of stream of consciousness with Sylvie and Bruno). I think the best piece of writing I've ever seen from America is Invisible Man by Ralph Ellison.

I've also read and enjoyed some stuff from the 16th-18th centuries (in particular, Ludovico Ariosto's Orlando Furioso, Edmund Spencer's The Faerie Queene, and John Milton's Paradise Lost), but a lot more that's a lot older. Giovanni Boccaccio's The Decameron is a great collection of tales like The Canterbury Tales, but better (note: I haven't yet read 1,001 Nights. Thomas Malory's Le Morte d'Arthur was a lot of fun. I slowed down a lot about eight years ago). I even love the fake ones that are tales within tales like Jan Potocki's The Manuscript Found at Saragossa. But I love chasing down and reading older works, like sagas and epics. Some of my favorites are The Nibelungenlied, The Kalevala, Njal's Saga, and The Epic of Sundiata. Gilgamesh is absolutely incredible. I've read some clunkers, though, like The Song of Roland, which I found dry, dull, and short.

As my reading slowed, I liked to read books aimed at young readers. Growing up, I loved the Oz books, which I find to be an utterly fascinating example of uniquely American (and non-European) fantasy. We have that and Little Nemo, but most other fantasy you get (outside of modern times) is distinctly European, and owes more to Lord Dunsany and Tolkien than anyone else. I loved The 13 1/2 Lives of Captain Bluebear, which I just finished ready to my daughter (Walter Moers). Michael Ende's The Neverending Story is probably the best book for young readers I've read. And then there's the Moomin books by Tove Jansson... What a find those were! Written for kids, but so unbelievably melancholic and subtle! Every page is packed with so much loneliness and longing! I couldn't even believe what I'd read after reading Tales from Moomin Valley. "The Fillyjonk who Believed in Disasters" is something I think every adult should read. It reminds me a bit of The Magic Mountain (see below) in how subtly it captures a character or series of character traits that are quite natural and recognizable, but so hard to pin down! Tove Jansson was brilliant.

For utter, nonsensical, bizarre, indulgent, and absurd escapism, I read E. T. A. Hoffmann. It's hard to even describe how ridiculous his stuff is. Like...you read this stuff, and are saying, "You can't DO that! You'd be laughed off AO3 for that!" And yet he does. And he doesn't care. He had an audience of one, and that was himself. I have no idea how his works are even remembered. Utterly bizarre.

That captures a lot of it. Here are some that don't fit elsewhere:

The Buru Quartet by Pramoedya Ananta Toer (masterful)

Death of a Salesman by Arthur Miller (wrecked me)

Moby Dick by Herman Melville (tore through it!)

Don Quixote by Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra (this one, too! Thick book, but such a quick and joyful read—and written with such exquisite detail!)

Frankenstein by Mary Shelley (one of the best of the 19th century)

The Magic Mountain by Thomas Mann (so subtle... Let me tell you, this is a long book, and like, it's 90% over, and suddenly this new character is introduced, and it's like, "What even is this…?", and yet, somehow, he takes like 50 pages, and you suddenly care about this guy... Astonishing)

The House of Mirth by Edith Wharton (tour de force; her best, in my opinion)

Cat's Cradle by Kurt Vonnegut (his best that I've read, and the one I'd recommend to everyone)

Forest of a Thousand Daemons by D. O. Fagunwa (terrible translation, but so wonderfully inventive!)

Black Elk Speaks (I want to mention this, because I really loved it, but it has a problematic history, so fyi)

True Grit by Charles Portis (one of the most beautiful short novels I've ever read; the Cohen Bros. adaptation is actually very, very close to it)

The Awakening by Kate Chopin (what a smack in the face that one is!)

The Tempest by Shakespeare (my favorite of his)

The Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass (best written work from America in the 19th century)

The Autobiography of Benjamin Franklin (by contrast, one of the most ridiculous things I've ever read in my life; HILARIOUS)

Journey to the West by Wu Cheng'en (read the whole thing, and...wow. lol So much repetition with humor throughout capped off by brilliance)

The Bostonians by Henry James (the best demonstration of exactly what he aimed to do: produce an ending that has two equally plausible and utterly opposite interpretations that can both be supported textually)

Nohow On by Samuel Beckett (the culmination of his work, and a worthy one)

Three Tales by Gustave Flaubert (I bawled—loudly—after reading "A Simple Heart"; I couldn't help it)

Thanks for asking this! It's been so long since I've really read... It's nice to remember. I wanted to read the Studs Lonigan trilogy for ages now... Oh, and I went through a Gabriel García Márquez phase! And Tom Robbins! And, of course, I've read all the wonderful comic novels by my friend Nina Post, whose wit astounds me.

Okay, now I'm just not getting to sleep. But this is some of what I've read that I've loved. Also, for certain things, I've read a lot (like 19th century Russian literature and Samuel Beckett), so I can tell you what not to read. For example, A Hero of Our Time by Lermontov? Pass. Same with The Golovlovs by Saltykov-Shchedrin. You can probably pass on War and Peace, as well, due to its girth, but you're going to miss some good stuff (amidst a lot of dry stuff).

(Oh, but if you were assigned Their Eyes Were Watching God and kind of passed on it because it was a "school book", that was a mistake!!!)

A couple of weeks ago I asked about people’s favorite book or books they read this year. Between Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and discord, I have a list of 123 books in no particular order that my friends and family loved this year. If it was a series then I listed the first book. Each star is an additional recommendation. I haven’t read all of these, they may or may not reflect my personal opinions, though my favorite books are on the list too. The most recommended books were How Far The Light Reaches by Sabrina Imbler, one or all of the Murderbot books by Martha Wells, and Light from Uncommon Stars by Ryka Aoki, because if there’s one thing my friends have in common across platforms, it’s that you’re all nerds (affectionate).
