JTTW96!Sun Wukong with a Cyber Sleuth s/o: Thoughts
Finally the next part to this! I won't lie about the difficulty of not being able to update this. Major reason being that I had difficulty finding Journey To The West 96 for months! Something that can make writing headcanons such as this more problematic. I like to keep as close to the characters' personality as I can. Anyway, we'll be focusing around Sun Wukong's thoughts towards our Cyber Sleuth. Can be read gender neutral or preferred gender.
The moment you fell from the sky, Sun Wukong immediately knew there been something off. Your partner, Herissmon, being equally as strange and suspicious.
Those who would try to kidnap Master in a quest to eat his flesh had been too many as of late. Although you proved not even interested in the goal since you and partner would leave after any short exchanges.
Even a Great Sage like himself can become curious after so many encounters with strange yet friendly individuals. Especially those who can apparently merge together to form a beast such as 'Rasenmon Fury Mode'. Zhu Bajie and Sha Wujing owe some peaches for that.
Sun Wukong wanted to know more about you alongside your partner Herissmon. A feat made easier as both of you joined their journey westward. Monkeys are curious creatures and he was no exception.
From you told them, Herissmon is a Digimon which are creatures made from living knowledge. This species belonging to a world crafted by knowledge, concepts and ideas, the Digital World. How interesting!
You were just as interesting for you were a Hacker, someone who could bend these rules to your will. Proved this by becoming invisible and made Zhu Bajie squeal in fright. Serves him right for cutting off his original tail. (The man is still salty btw.)
The Monkey King was very grateful that their journey began to go more smoother with the two of you joining. For one, the pig didn't laze around as much thanks to Herissmon's watchful eye. Little hedgehog can be quite intimidating apparently.
There's the fact you didn't let any discrimination from other humans slide. Moment someone said the words 'monster', 'demon' or anything that borders discrimination were met with a snarky tongue lashing like no other.
"Is that the only words you can say about my companions in your limited vocabulary?/ So what if they have fur, peculiar stature or animal traits? At least my friends got more manners./ Beauty is in the eye of the beholder but apparently your eyesight is quite poor."
Another benefit being your very unique skill set. Like the Monkey King, you and Herissmon were very crafty. Using stones to create a makeshift oven or find edible mushrooms, spices to even root vegetables so food is less scarce when a village is rarer to find.
"Being a Cyber Sleuth means I have to be ready for many kinds of jobs." Were your words when he asked about it. Considering the many children that he cares for on Mount Huagao, Sun Wukong easily agreed.
He couldn't forget about your fighting prowess either. Those hacking skills were very dangerous when used properly. Invisibility for unpredictable tactics such as making any weapon or tool you wielded unseen. Doubling your speed and sometimes other members of the group. Even identifying weak points and exploit them.
Herissmon was just as dangerous. Quills that charged with the power of lightning. Sun Wukong could never forget the unique transformation magic, Digivolution, his smaller sibling also possessed. These forms felt more like swapping places with an older powerful self from a distant time.
Sun Wukong couldn't forget about Rasenmon, the combined form of you and Herissmon! Apparently the large beast form wasn't the true form, just a manifestation of your shared fury. The real form being a fighter whose punches could create tornados.
The Monkey King couldn't help his excitement whenever Rasenmon would appear. Digimon, Cyber Sleuths, he wanted to experience every wonder it could offer. Even share these greater joys with his children.
Maybe once their long journey was completed, you could show him that. After all, Cyber Sleuths accepted quests from anyone? The Great Sage Equal To Heaven can be quite patient. And the fact you were a generous kind soul made the wait more bearable.
And that's it! I won't lie, this is the second time I wrote this as I didn't like the previous version. Been watching JTTW96 and honestly I can understand Sun Wukong being iffy around humans. His only experiences with them have been awful from as a child to his journey.
Like monster, demon, unsightly and all kinds of insults are thrown in his face to the point I want to climb through the screen just to tell these people off. And you wonder why Sun Wukong is ready to bash someone on the head?
Anyway, I hope you guys enjoyed this. I am working on my older headcanons so expect those to update soon. Until next time folks, I'll see you back on the journey west. This is Rasenmon.

how fucked up would you be if you were told the embodiment of the worst parts of you was capable of killing members of your family
[ID: A sketchy two panel sepia comic. In the first panel, Sun Wukong is dressed in traditional deep mourning garb and kneeling before a grave, back to the viewer. The second panel is a close-up on his face. He has a hollow, terrified wide-eyed expression and half of his face is in deep shadow. He thinks, "Could I have done the same?" End ID]

Hero Is Back Sun WuKong but he's quasi-crystalized bc he was kept in there for too long and now the crystal merged w his skin.
The crystals sort of 'replacing' his fur and every strand is just extremely tiny and thin strands that's feeling too close to velvet for comfort. Corundum teeth and nails that shine and glow as he bites into fruits, that crystallization spreading at each touch, and his 'fur' mimicking the glow of the prison he was stuck in for 500 years, and formations forming in his bloodstream that burst into clusters and clusters of crystals.
Idk, I think it just seems fun.

First attempt at illustrating Puti Zushi, the great immortal and Sun Wukong’s first shifu! I’m still pretty fuzzy on how precisely his kind of teaching and spiritual stance--which I understand to be a combination of Taoism and Buddhism--works, but I hope I did an okay job on this imagination.

Cleansing Rain (@digitalagepulao Drabble)
Tumblr media
This was something that came to mind at the little Tumblr post this creator prosed below! It’s short but I hope you enjoy!
A great clap of thunder shattered the birdsong and scattered them like rice grains in the wind. The rumbling beast in the sky sounded tiger-like, it’s approach as soft as those jungle cats. Only it’s breath, as cold and full of water, warned that the beast was about to pounce upon them.
The pilgrims upon the road looked up all with varying expressions of worry. All except one. The youngest of the pilgrims- the youngest in disciplehood that is. The stone monkey had lived longer then a man, longer then most trees, and almost as long as some great dragons of the seas. He had seen the Heavens, had waged war with Immortals and Demons alike. The stone monkey had been King, Student, Sage, and Warlord. He had seen horrors, had survived many of them, and had brought his own to those that had been in his path.
The storms breath heaved again. An exhale of a roar as the rain splattered dry dirt, as it began to create a chime of sounds as the trees leaves laughed in its wake. The earth exhaled, the smell of dampening stone, earth and dirt, rising. As Water and Earth met the Monkey stood still, caught in between.
Sun Wukong, King of Flower Fruit Mountain, Sage equal to Heaven, Warlord and almost usurper of the Jade Emperor- looked upward. While the rest of the band made for a low hanging honeysuckle Wukong stood. The rain fell like the softest breath on his skin. The first droplets were cool. A storm from the mountains blown off course. It would have been snow if it had not been brought to them. To him.
The other pilgrims frantically set up a tent for their Master, Tripitaka. He was but mortal and this cold downpour could take root as a chill and sickness. They worked quickly. All except the newest edition.
Wukong felt the wind run fingers through his fur as if greeting a new friend. The dirt and rock that had clung to him since his imprisonment beneath the mountain was brushed away. To the other pilgrims it looked as if Wukong was just standing in the rain.
The water fell in a heavy sheet, not a soft thing now. The tiger had leapt onto them and roared its rain onto that dry bit of earth. It’s fury however was a welcome thing to the stone monkey. He felt it wash over him- nature in its pure, untamed movement. The water soon had his fur sodden. Wukong leaned into the invisible claws of the storm, enjoying the rush of sensations. It was cold, the wind tried to steal at his clothes in a playful manner, and the thunder clapped his ears as his mother would if he had tried to play a prank on her.
“What is he doing?” Bajie said. He was incredulous beneath his eyebrows, frowning as rain soaked his skin even beneath the tree.
“Looks like he’s enjoying the rain.” Wujing commented. The great red beard beneath his chin flowed like a river of molten fire- the rain making it stick to his shirt.
“More like getting a bath.” Longma spoke from beneath the branches. The horse shook itself and, with the last shiver, reverted to the dragon prince he was. Longma checked the tent flaps to make sure the ties were secure. It was a small tent and worn. They would have to get a new one soon from the damage this one had taken. From within - and before the eldest disciple could latch the last tie- the young monk poked his head out.
Tripatakas bald head already glistened with the rain as he called Bajie back to his place beneath the tree. The boar had been making its way to the stone monkey, a moody look in his eyes.
“Leave him.” It only took those simple words to recall the boar back to the tree. The monk looked at Wukong again. He took in the stance of the monkey, how the rain was now washing over him. How he looked almost …. Peaceful. Harmonious in a sense. The mortal man felt a small smile steal upon his face. Tripitaka felt he got a glimpse into a personal joy, as one a child gave when experiencing a new sight or as a man enjoying the fruits of his labour come to fruition.
“He looks …happy.”
Longma tied the last flap closed then he, Bajie and Wujing set about erecting another tent for themselves.
Sun Wukong laid back in the green grass, making a soft bed for his head. He stared up into the storm with eyes wide, face soft. The rain continued, the sound slapping against rock and petal, against road and wood, against his fur and ears. The noise- the noise!- it was bliss. No silent stone, no unfeeling chains. Here the wind trussed and pulled at him. Here the rain cleaned away the hundreds of years of neglect left in his fur. It groomed him, awakened his senses, made him feel alive.
Wukong laughed. He laughed until his own rain fell from his eyes. He was alive. He could not die - but there were feelings - there were things worse then death. Life meant so little when one could not experience what it meant to be alive. In the rain, in the cold, in the growls of the storm, Wukong revelled in it.
He was alive. He was glad for the storm, for it covering the sudden well of feeling that made their way down his cheeks and from his eyes. Wukong didn’t stop his tears. They were not of sorrow. Not of pity. They were of joy- the joy of experiencing and touching, tasting, smelling and seeing the world again.
He was alive.

Ok so I was jamming out to the lion king sound track on my way home the other day when I was struck with a sudden thought, wouldn't it be awesome if there was an animation/animatic of sun wukong singing "I just can't wait to be king". Picture it a newly crown monkey king singing about how great of a king he's going to be while one of his advisers tries to rein him in, while all the monkey's on flower fruit mountain join in with wukong on celebrating their new king.

whenever i feel bad about going wildly off-plot with extravagant world-building and weird ocs, i just remember that 16th century author wu chengen, in an attempt to avoid his bureaucratic duties, wrote a 1k page fanfic about a buddhist monk's trip to india and devoted the entire first half to his oc, an immortal monkey who solves ALL his problems with the power of friendship and incredible violence, and it's one of china's Four Greatest Works.
