please explain to me the difference between madol and thaumarks? I thought it was a coin vs bill situation but i'm not sure?? does it even matter? ToT

There actually is a difference between JP’s madol and EN’s thaumarks!

Madol’s irl equivalent would be similar to the Japanese yen, whereas thaumark’s irl equivalent would be closer to the American dollar. Please note that I use the American dollar as reference since EN was initially the North American only server before expanding to other regions.

These values roughly align with the conversion rate between the yen and the dollar. For example, when Ace reads about the prize money for the winners of SDC/VDC:

In English, he says the prize amount is 50,000 thaumarks. In Japanese, he says the prize amount is 500万 (500-man), or 50 million madol. Therefore, the yen (madol) and the dollar (thaumark) appear to be different, even if they refer to roughly equal values.

Notably, this does NOT impact gameplay elements. You are still charged the same number when leveling up your characters using madol or thaumarks.

The only times when the madol/thaumark difference comes into play is when the characters discuss the costs of items or services. This localization decision most likely occurs because English-speaking players most likely reside in western countries who may find it odd that a $1 candy bar in their country suddenly costs “100” (in madol) in Twisted Wonderland. The Japanese, meanwhile, would not find this strange; the inverse would be true for them, the Japanese players might be confused by a normally 100 yen candy bar with the price of “1” (in thaumarks).

Here are examples from Azul at the end of book 3. Take note of the different numbers used for madol versus thaumarks:

(Even then, please note that these changes may be inconsistent. Sometimes the same numerical values are used regardless of the server; for example, Crowley says the broken chandelier from the prologue are both a billion madol in JP and a billion marks in EN.)

Another difference is that EN mentions a new element to their currency; the “sorcent”, which would be like cents. The “sorcent” does not exist in JP; for values even as small as “1” (which would be more like 0.01 for you Americans), JP still uses madol (マドル). See Riddle’s dialogue from 2-5 of Port Fest:

Obie: If I don’t get to speak to you… Thanks for coming.

Walker: I’m surprised you came. Happy, but surprised.

I... have not really posted anything with the event huh 😭 (IRL nabbed me and didn't get much energy left over to babble and post lil Xav blorbos 🥺)

Though what I did end up doing recently was actually doodle more things... because, shower thoughts invade after having irl brainrot moment again spotting a sweater that looked totally like something out of Xavier's comfy closet

You can't tell me that he won't have this piece somewhere amongst all his white sweaters :v;;;

One interesting trend that I did find out is that for the first 6 days, I'm on a 100% sync hit rate with Zayne (fellow virgo mentality) until the last 3 days where I totally answered all the opposites from Zayne.

And with Xavier, whom I've been answering the opposite for 5/6 times, suddenly all remaining 3, were in total sync.

Ngl... that just felt like our relationship of understanding and observing each other deepened over the course of the event??? It's obviously a coincidence but one can delulu, right? 8D

Raf's sync with me was a more balance 50-50 X'D

Also can I just say that the... text... after the event... 🥺 IT'S SO CUTE??? what you mean you gonna just sit there and pout... AT A PLUSHIE? 😭💕 This man... seriously... I need to draw thisssss ahhhhhhh

And he just smoothly recovers and rizzes back?? SIR. Your charisma level too high... 🫠🫠🫠

Also the thumbprint on the clay mugs with Zayne was just too precioussssss 😭

Overall event stories were cute and a lot of aww moments. (the whole theming of MC and Xavier being about observing the other... 🥺 IDK just reminds me of the time back in Anecdote 3 where MC would just try to sneak some peeks at Xavier, in an attempt to know more about him)

But really though... Zayne's ending with the whole exchange of "the moon is beautiful tonight" .... they're just... confessing right there! To each other! (Gotta double check what's written in the JP subs just to be sure but that line still ToT)

And Xavier blinks so much the photo booth not being able to take a proper photo of him was hilarious. Didn't help that I was also taking some photos after the event ending and (FINALLY) got his lines about having his photo taken when he wasn't ready... such impeccable timing as always, Xav.

Crescent part 1 & 2 (Theory)

So! For the last day or two I’ve been obsessively trying to put Ateez entire discography in chronological order according to the lore. (The JP releases are driving me insane because idk where they all fit-)

BuT, in looking through all the songs and the lore, there was something I found odd: Crescent. They’re not intros or outros yet they’re mostly instrumental (with a little talking). So, what’s so special about them to be instrumentals in the middle of albums? And then it hit me while looking at the World Ep. Fin: Will song poster. Crescent

It’s a crescent moon.

A crescent moon means the Cromer has dream powers.

After looking at the songs around them, I realized it’s entirely possible that Crescent and Crescent 2 are supposed to represent either entering or exiting a dream state.

Crescent 1 appears in the middle of Treasure Ep 3, sandwiched between Illusion and Wave, one which is clearly a dream or hallucination and one which seems to show them waking up.

Crescent 1 repeats “Open your eyes”, which is how Wave starts. That (I think) seems to show that someone used the Cromer’s powers to send them a message to wake them up from some kind of dream they were in.

Which brings me to Crescent 2, sandwiched between Silver Light and Dreamy Day. Dreamy? Eh? Eh???

Silver Light (other than being one of the songs I cry to on the album) is about seeing hope in the distance, and “following the light”.

While Dreamy Day is about wanting a good day to last forever even if it’s just a dream.

If I’m correct this means the Teezers were in a dream/hallucination of some kind again during World Ep. Fin: Will, whether on purpose or not. (What goes on in Strictland ToT)

And while Yes, I know they don’t seem to be dreaming/hallucinating in the Will diaries, but the diaries don’t tell everything.

A good amount of the albums can be explained by diaries, but the Treasure series is a huge gap in what we know for sure. Between that and the how the Crazy Form MV doesn’t seem to be connected to the Will diaries at all. I think it’s safe to leave this theory open.
