‘Hidden Adventure’ Is A Return To Form For Camp Cretaceous – Non Spoiler Review
Jurassic World Camp Cretaceous: Hidden Adventure is just around the corner – providing an interactive adventure which immerses us within the camper’s time on Isla Nublar after the fall of Jurassic World. Despite my initial cynicism about how an interactive Jurassic story would work, I was surprisingly impressed with the production quality and in-depth decisions which go into making this a compelling story which feels like a return to form for the highs of Season 1, 2 & 3 which I really enjoyed.
Join me as we go a little bit deeper into how the interactive adventure works, and also how it connects to other parts of the show. Don’t worry - we’ll keep it non-spoiler for this article!
Before we dive into another story with the Campers themselves, I think it is really important to acknowledge just how well the interactive components of this story work. As someone who consumes most of my media through my Xbox, I was slightly hesitant about how well optimized the interface would be for this experience – but it was flawless. The episode is explored from the perspective of Darius Bowman – and the direction does a really good job of making it clear when you are about to be prompted to make a decision by zooming into a first-person view from his perspective. I was really impressed by how much thought has gone into making the decision making in Hidden Adventure immersive and engaging – and I can imagine younger fans having a lot of fun going through and making different decisions at different points throughout the story to see what else may unfold.
Moving onto the story itself – it is fair to say that this is more of what we have come to expect from Camp Cretaceous – but in a good way! Set between the events of Season Two and Season Three, this story explores how the campers continue to fight to survive on Isla Nublar as they wait for an opportunity to escape the island. I loved how this episode really grounded itself in the Season One & Two themes of the show – really feeling like this is a return to form for the show before the inclusion of Mantah Corp in later seasons. Don’t get me wrong – there isn’t perhaps as much connection to the other areas of the story here as there could be, but as a standalone adventure it fits well within the pre-established structure of the show and is a welcome return to the remnants of Jurassic World.
There are some interesting connections to the wider Jurassic universe in this short – with some fun nods to the history of Jurassic World and also a couple of cool easter egg moments packed in throughout. I really enjoyed the fact that we got to explore new locations on Nublar which felt a little more grounded with the theme park aesthetic I had been longing for. This is something which I wish we had got more of in the original run of Camp Cretaceous – so getting it in the short was a welcome divergence from the familiar locations we see in the first three seasons of the show. Don’t get me wrong – there are a lot of familiar locations again in the new short, but I think they are well balanced with new areas and a story which keeps itself moving at a decent pace. It would also be remiss for me to not mention the new ‘big bad’ dinosaur – which plays an interesting role in the Hidden Adventure. I enjoyed its inclusion and think that although it adds another new animal to the roster of Nublar, it works pretty well in this instance.
Overall, I think Hidden Adventure is a fun opportunity to revisit the Isla Nublar era of Camp Cretaceous. The story is well-rounded, the set-pieces grounded enough to be believable, and it does a good job of exploring some additional areas of the island with some fun nods to the wider franchise thrown in. Hidden Adventure fundamentally has all the components of what I feel makes a good Camp Cretaceous episode – and that’s why it’s a successful way to round out the series in my opinion!
Camp Cretaceous Hidden Adventure arrives on Netflix on November 15th.
Huge thanks to Dreamworks and Netflix for providing us with early access to the episode to produce this review.

What's most amazing about people who hate that birds are dinosaurs is that, without the discovery of birds being dinosaurs in the 1960s, none of y'all would have ever actually cared about dinosaurs
the history:
dino craze in 1800s. people thought, birds are very similar to these guys. Dollo fucked it up, made a bad theory, and people stopped thinking that
Early 1900s, dinosaurs deemed sluggish, stupid, pointless evolutionary failures. most people not really into dinosaurs anymore. this continues until
1960s: Deinonychus discovered. suddenly, dinosaurs interesting again: vibrant, lively, warm blooded animals. Also... birds might be dinosaurs?
from the 60s through the 70s, a slow buildup of dinosaur culture - both in crappy stop motion movies, but also in children's books and other media
80s cladistics revolution shows birds are living dinosaurs, though not without flaws. documentary after documentary is made, causing the major dinosaur boom of the late 80s and early 90s
the peak of this boom are the A&E and PBS documentaries, which both outright state birds are dinosaurs
cartoons like land before time and other dinosaur content keep coming out too, especially at the end of the 80s and the earliest 90s
the book jurassic park, referencing the birds are dinosaurs thing, is written in the late 80s. in the early 90s, is adapted into one of the greatest blockbusters of all time. now dinosaur interest is MAINSTREAM.
jurassic park isn't the start of the dinosaur boom, it is the apex
90s becomes the decade of dinosaurs, with tons of new discoveries, television shows, documentaries, and other programming
1996 first feathered "nonavian" dinosaur discovered. birds are dinosaurs is the closest thing we have to proven phylogenetic fact
1999 walking with dinosaurs premieres, revolutionizing the dinosaur-documentary genre.
early 2000s becomes the age of Period-Type Dino-Docu-Dramas
velociraptor is determined to have feathers
suddenly, dinosaur mania starts to die in the later 2000s
even though discoveries keep happening and we learn so much in the 2010s, the 2010s becomes a very regressive time - a sort of reactionary response to the birdification of dinosaurs and the dinosaurification of birds. the height of this is jurassic world
we may be in the middle of a dino-docu-drama revitilization thanks to prehistoric planet. stay tuned on that one
like, everyone was fine with the birdification of dinosaurs up and until they looked "feminine" on the outside, because of feathers.
It's just all such transparent misogyny and homophobia and people who react against feathered dinosaurs or birds being dinosaurs are just... so transparently parroting conservative talking points
Anyways, yeah. without birds are dinosaurs, you wouldn't have jurassic park. Sooooo

This shot is...well, it's a lot. Let's break it down:
FIRST: I wanna see the storyboarding for this. The direction. The concepts. They pulled off a 270-degree rotation in the whole environment to illustrate several beats of a fight scene. That's REALLY COOL, and a perfect use of the three-dimensional medium. That's the ambition I love to see.
However, the ambition is...well, obviously limited by the assets. It's a big void. We know from the movie just how much more complex the wreckage of Main Street is, and everything just sort of hits the pavement...
...BUT speaking of hitting the pavement, the camera shakes when it gets close to Rexy's feet. They went into this shot and said "When the camera gets close, shake the camera to simulate the weight." It might also just be because of the proximity, but the camera shakes when Rexy snaps her jaws shut--which any Jurassic superfan will know was a brilliant technique used in the final battle of the original Jurassic World.
Now, the character movements are...somewhat choreographed, it feels, but there's also a definite path to all of them. Mitch and Tiff run, Tiff runs into a table. Throws the table, which turns upside-down (the camera even passes in front of it!), runs, panicks and covers herself as Mitch running in from behind an umbrella, Mitch stabs Rexy, who gets mad, throws the table in pain, and the table lands on the guns Sammy is carrying, yanking her back. Darius has to come and rescue her.
Final point: I love that Rexy is using everything in this battle. Teeth, legs, tail, she's a machine. She's a Boss Battle, and the crew is struggling to escape and stay alive.

wanted to show my work in progress right now
i got a really cheap hammond rex from target a month or two ago and decided that since i now had three i wanted to modify my older rex (worse joints, bad eye quality) and make it an “accurate” rex ! just have to finish the bottom lip and then work on some body modifications (fixing the feet, un-shrinkwrappifying the midsection as best i can) and then i can paint her

New Dinosaurs & Features Come to Jurassic World Evolution 2 THIS WEEK
The latest update to Jurassic World Evolution 2 promises to bring new updates and plenty more dinosaurs as the game gets a free update, and also a brand-new dinosaur pack – the Late Cretaceous Pack. In this article we’ll take a closer look at the newest dinosaurs added to the game – and also the features which are coming with the free update.
The first animal added is a brand-new pterosaur known as Barbaridactylus – named after the Barbary Coast of North Africa where it was discovered. This pterosaur follows a string of Pterosaurs with unique crests and unique names, and I’m excited to have it added to the roster of avian animals already in the game.
Another exciting edition for me as a fan of Dinos In The Wild is the towering Sauropod known as Alamosaurus. This humongous dinosaur is one of the largest dinosaurs ever discovered, and features unique spines running down it’s shoulders, back and tail.
Alongside this we have the Australovenator – a unique carnivore which lived in Australia about 95 million years ago. This animal is a nimble predator – with sharp teeth and flexible arms. It’s much more mobile than many of the other carnivores in our parks – adding a unique new type of bipedal animal to the game.
Lastly, we have Styxosaurus – a long and agile new marine reptile which will be available to be hatched in lagoons throughout our parks. This animal is unique in how streamlined it is – and it is great to see bioluminescent colours returning with this animal.
Alongside these brand-new animals, update four is also joining the game – bringing a ton of new features which have been requested by fans. The first includes one I am very excited for – which is the ability to customize our Lagoons. Frontier show a placeable Indominus Rex skeleton as one of the scenery pieces – emphasizing just how much variety we will now be able to add to our lagoons. It’s safe to say Isla Nublar recreations just hit a new level of detail!
There are also behavioral changes – with escaped aerial reptiles now attacking helicopters, and marine reptiles attacking the wall of lagoons when they are uncomfortable. Alongside this there will also be some additional inter-species relationships added to enrich the behaviours shared between different types of dinosaurs. We also get additional building decorations and the ability to change decorative lights throughout our park – allowing us to add different colours. I can’t wait to add some red emergency lighting to areas of my park!
A new overlay feature is also getting added to the game’s Capture Mode – enabling us to add postcard and stamp overlays to screen captures. And lastly but certainly not least, there will be a slew of new updates to the game’s sandbox settings. I won’t list them exhaustively here – you can read the full update on the Frontier Forums.
This DLC adds some cool new animals to the game, and I also think it is awesome to once again see a beefy free update from the Frontier team – showing their commitment to continuing to develop the best Jurassic Park builder we have ever had. I appreciate all the improvements made here – particularly the ability to customize our Lagoons – and cannot wait to see what else may be on the horizon for the game in the future.
This DLC pack and the free update will be available to all players on September the 15th. Stay tuned for more details on all things Jurassic World Evolution 2 in the near future!

When bringing decades-old games back to market, publishers are essentially selling the same ROM files that have been freely available online for an incredibly long time. I’ve always felt such rereleases ought to push the boat out a little and offer more to justify buying the thing instead of just emulating its contents. It needn’t be decadent, but do something special.
Limited Run Games doesn’t agree with me, at least as far as The Jurassic Park Classic Games Collection goes.
