Why I Don't Like Belly in "We'll Always Have Summer" Please read. Very informative.

Okay. So. Why do I not like Belly in the third book?

Easy. Because of the way she treated Jeremiah. And. Because of the way she acted toward Conrad while she was with Jere.

Okay. So. We all know about Jeremiah "cheating" (this word is in quotations bc he didn't really cheat). But do we not remember all the dishonest and straight up just not okay things Belly did.

To understand why Belly is a jerk. We need to take it back to when Jere "cheated".

(I will be using quotes from the book).

Quote one: He got down on the floor next to me, his head hanging between his knees. “Belly, it was when we were on that break. When we were broken up.”

Her: Our so-called breakup had lasted all of a week. It wasn’t even a real breakup, not for me. I always assumed we would get back together.

Now let's fast forward to chapter five: (The first six words)... as follows: "When we broke up in April" and let's not forget about this: Before I could answer, before I could say, You’re not stupid or selfish or wasteful, before I could end the fight, Jeremiah said, “Fuck it. I won’t waste your time anymore. Let’s end it now.”

And I said, “Fine.” (hmm. sounds like your broken up to me).

And then there's this: I cried the whole way home. I couldn’t believe that we had broken up. And this: Steven said, “Chill out. The only reason he hasn’t called you is that it’s too expensive to make a call from Mexico. You guys will be back together by next week, guaranteed.” (this means that you would have to be broken up in order to get back together). Belly: Steven was right. We did get back together a week later. (like i said to get back together you would have to be broken up).

Okay. Now let's talk on Belly. And why she's dishonest and a jerk.

Example one. Comes straight from the book. This is Belly on Conrad: Because I really did believe he was coming. If I didn’t, would I have taken extra care with my hair that morning? In the shower, would I have shaved my legs not once but twice, just to be safe? Would I have put on that new dress and worn those heels that made my feet hurt if I truly didn’t believe he was coming? No. Deep down I more than believed it. I knew it.

I'M SORRY BUT WHY WOULD YOU SAY THIS ABOUT YOUR FIANCEE'S BROTHER?!? YOUR FREAKING ENGAGED FOR CRYING OUT LOUD!!!

And then who can forget this?: There was this moment between us then, of us just looking at each other, holding each other’s gaze. My breath quickened. If I leaned forward just a little, we would be kissing. I knew I should move away, but I couldn’t.

Or this: Conrad reached out and wiped my chin with his shirt. It was maybe the most intimate thing anyone had ever done to me. I felt light-headed, unsteady on my feet. I was shaking as I piled peaches into a plastic bag. Just one look, one touch from him, and I was shaking. It was madness. I was marrying his brother.

BUT JEREMIAH IS THE BAD PERSON? I'M SHOOK. I'M IN DISBELIEF!!!

It’s true that Jenny has a tight lock on that set because we haven’t seen anything since filming started 2 weeks ago. All people are doing is speculate based on casting calls and some set photos so I will give you a little sum up and you can take it with a grain of salt.

1. They are adding the Jeremiah is a frat boy story line (remember: Belly hated Jeremiah’s fraternity and was a source of constant fights between them). One of the people living in the neighborhood where they filmed the frat party scenes posted the pic. There’s also a bar scene but no one knows if it’s them or maybe another character.

2. They were filming Conrad medical lab scenes last week because one of the cast call pages on the place they are filming was asking for people on medical clothes to look like students.

3. Rumor has it Belly herself is joining a sonority and yesterday they were filming scenes with Belly there - a girl confirmed with a pic in what looks like a sonority set. And a couple days ago they were asking for a lot of girls for scenes. This is interesting if we consider Belly hated that lifestyle and in the books she even lies to Jeremiah about not having enough money to join a sonority when he asked her to join one. People speculate that this will be Belly’s attempt at “fitting with Jeremiah’s world” and kind of make it up for the denial that she’s been under to make it work between them. This adds up with Belly’s people pleaser behavior and how in the books she keeps saying she barely has a life on her own because she doesn’t even have friends on her own that aren’t Jeremiah’s. And it could also double down on her and Laurel’s issues because Laurel was concerned Belly was changing and limiting her college experience to Jeremiah’s. And people think this is how she’ll meet Anika (and potentially Lacie too??).

This is the deb ball 2.0 - a thing she never wanted to do because it wasn’t her style but did because she was trying to please Susannah and only Laurel and Conrad called her out for trying to be someone she’s not. Seeing Belly losing herself as a justification for the cheating plot and the decision she made will be so sad to watch but necessary for her own growth.

4. They were filming on the beach of a resort a few days ago and people on Reddit thinks this is location for the Cabo storyline because it looks very much like Cabo with the setting. And they were even asking for beach goers too.

The first two episodes will definitely revolve around Belly being in denial about her relationship with Jeremiah. Joining a sonority to please him while he does whatever he is doing with his own fraternity and the Cabo storyline. Meanwhile, a few scenes of Conrad studying at Harvard here and there.

I think they are trying to film as many outdoors scenes as possible to get into the more private sets to avoid spoilers.

belly joining a sorority is so ooc but i can't wait to see how much she hates it and how much she's trying to change herself to be with him 🤡

you can hear his voice. it’s muffled, he sounds like he’s in your kitchen, a blessing of having the bedroom right above it, but you can hear him talking to your mother.

you don’t have time to think, you just fling your legs over your mattress and rush down the stairs at an appropriate pace. you’d just woke up, maybe not your best state to be in, but you couldn’t wait to see conrad fisher. the boy next door.

he’d gone to Princeton, smart cookie if you say so yourself, and you hadn’t seen him since last summer. in fact, you only saw him maybe once or twice outside of the neighborhood and that was getting ice cream and groceries. other than that, you live by the fence that separates your yards waiting to hear the laughter and conversations from the Conklin and fisher kids.

“just tomatoes? are you sure? I can go pick out some basil—“

“no, no laurel will kill you if you do any more yard work! I can get it.” you hear conrad protest. the fisher family was used to your parents generosity, the beautiful vegetable garden grew right on the fisher/y/l/n house line, the family was more than welcome to eat and take whatever they wanted, but it didn’t stop them from being kind enough to ask. Susannah raised those boys right.

“are you sure?”

“what’s going on?” you ask, it’s like the words floated out of you when you saw him. his brown hair a little longer than normal, his t-shirt a bit smaller on him, and he’s wearing small navy blue swim trunks. a sight to make any girl swoon for a fisher.

“oh, y/n, do you think you can help conrad get some more tomatoes from the vines? it seems to be the fisher-Conklin clan has run out.” your mother hands you Susannah’s woven basket that conrad was once holding. your mother looks at you with pleading eyes but she knows you’ll do anything that has conrad fisher involved.

“happy to.” you take the basket in your hand and gesture for conrad to follow. he thanks your mother once again and follows along out the back door. you can hear not only just your heartbeat, but the blood rushing to your ears.

being alone with Conrad was sometimes awkward. at least to you it always felt that way, because you never knew how to be around him as yourself. you were so deeply in love with him that just being in his presence was enough to make you fumble over your words.

“here I can get the tomatoes.” conrad pushes past you, his shoulder brushing against your body, you could smell his cologne, the salty ocean in his hair, and the mixture of the laundry detergent Susannah uses. it was an intoxicating smell, one to make your world spin.

“you sure? they are kind of all over the place.” you chuckle setting the basket down into the grass. you start picking the beautiful blush red ones and gently place them in the basket along side the ones conrad was picking. every so often your hands would brush or you’d about pick the same tomato. you both would blush and apologize instantly for the connection.

“would you guys just kiss already! you’re making me nauseous.” Jeremiah calls over the fence line from the pool, he’s watched about every embarrassing second of you and his brothers interactions.

“come on, con!” Steven hollers, it’s loud enough for the neighbors on the other side of their house to snicker at the boys energy for far too early in the morning.

“I don’t know what their problem is.” Conrad says and it’s only for you two to hear. he’s picked up the basket from the grass now, you’re stuck with holding a few more tomatoes that he claims would be more than enough for everyone.

“no seriously, just keep those ones.”

“we have enough inside, just take them—“

“fine,” he huffs out an annoyed sigh and watches you dump them into the basket, “can I at least make you breakfast with them?”

“sounds like a plan to me.”

that day, he made you more than breakfast. he made you feel the most indescribable feeling of love and excitement. he left you walking home as beat red as those tomatoes you picked. you could thank Steven and Jeremiah for their pressure and tease, because conrad fisher did in fact kiss you that morning.

“I’m so happy for these guys because today I became twenty dollars richer,” Jeremiah pauses, the laughter of friends and family make you both blush, “so thank you Steven for believing they would never get married. here’s to the bride and the groom!” Jeremiah holds his champagne glass up, others in the room follow.

“you really bet we would get married?” Conrad turns to his brother who passes the microphone to belly before sitting down beside him.

Jeremiah’s hands clap his brothers shoulder, “we also made a bet that you’d kiss her that summer. belly also made a bet that you’d have tomatoes on the menu, looks like you guys are the most predictable couple ever.”

You like seeing him happy. It suits him. His entire face just lights up the minute his lips contorts into a grin, it’s contagious. He needed this day, with his friends. With Jeremiah. With you. He really needed you here in Cousins; but Conrad Fisher is not known for being vulnerable, he’s not even remotely close to an open book. So, a couple of days ago, when he opened the front door to be greeted with you, Jeremiah and Belly; it took all of his strength to stop himself from breaking down on the spot.

He hadn’t seen you in a while, and you both blame it on the distance; really, you do. That’s why you love summer so much. Cousins. The beach-house. It’s just for you and Conrad; for a little while, it’s just magical. He knows he could be putting more of an effort in, but he really doesn’t want you to see how low he gets. You’re his sunshine; and he really doesn’t want to dampen that.

You were tucked into his chest now, peering up at him and feeling the pure serenity rushing through your veins at the sight of him smiling. You love him so much it hurts.

“Laser tag!” Belly snaps you out of your daze, her fiery competitiveness making you jolt a little. “Hey, Conrad; hands off my girl. No mind games, I’ve got my eye on you.”

She gestures for you to stand over with her, Taylor and Skye. Taylor narrows her eyes at Conrad, and sends you a happy little grin as she reaches her hand out for you to grab at. You shrug your shoulders, swivelling your head away from your boyfriends attempt to kiss you a quick goodbye; and all of your friends laugh loudly at the rejection.

“Yeah, Conrad.” You snide. “No mind games.”

He flips you off.

“We actually don’t need mind games. We’re simply the better team.” Steven declares. Conrad and Jeremiah yell out agreements as the three of them wrap their arms around each other.

You spin on your heel and face your three teammates. “Four against three. We have an advantage he—“

Conrad boos loudly. “You have no advantage.”

“Ignore him.” Belly chimes in, the two of you standing before Taylor and Skye. You nod. “We have to beat them. Game face on; in it to win it. Team Belly for life.”

“Oh please, that’s the worst pep talk I’ve ever heard!” Your boyfriend laughs. Steven and Jeremiah spew out words of agreement.

You raise your eyebrows. “Okay, Fisher. You wanna trash talk? Because remember that night I went to visit you and your dorm hall was empty and you wanted to—“

His face falls, and turns bright red. “Alright! Let’s play.”

Belly pulls you in for a hug. “Hit him where it hurts, I like it. Also.. I’m gonna need to hear that story later.”

You grin.

The game is actually not as lighthearted as one would think. So, maybe you’re all in your late teens; and maybe it’s a game aimed for six year olds’ birthday parties, regardless; you have a competitive streak that could possibly be labelled a little toxic. You need to win, badly. You’ve hit Steven and Jeremiah, easily. Your main target is Conrad; and you can’t seem to find him anywhere. Until you do, and you smile sweetly.

“Hi.” You whisper. He smiles and greets you back.

You hold your hands up in surrender. “I come in peace.”

You get a little laugh from him; and he shakes his head. You melt a little. “You know, you’re cute when you’re all competitive. Maybe slightly hot, too.”

You gasp. “Only slightly?”

“Super.”

“If I promise not to shoot, will you kiss me? Please.” You hit him with the puppy dog eyes and suddenly he finds himself not even caring about this game anymore. He loves you so much it makes him feel ill.

“Promise you won’t shoot?”

“Promise I won’t shoot.”

He pulls you in by your waist and kisses you softly, then a little harder. Your hands find his hair and you stand up on your tiptoes to deepen it. This is way too lovey dovey for an arcade. You fear not even Cam Cameron could prevent you guys from getting kicked out if some overprotective mother stumbles upon you.

He’s zapped in the back, and he freezes. Grimacing in aggravation when he hears Belly’s evil cackle from a few feet behind him. She doesn’t stop zapping, maybe enjoying it a little too much. You bite down on your bottom lip to trap your laughter.

“You promised.” He whines.

“Promised that I wouldn’t shoot. Unfortunately, Belly is a force to be reckoned with. The woman cannot be contained.” You shrug, and Belly hits him with a yeah, suck it Conrad.

He sighs. “So that was planned, then.”

“Yes and no.”

He falls in to step with you as Belly races forward to claim your spot as the winning team. “And no?”

“I was told to kiss you. Just not like that. That was..” Your voice trails off. “Wow. That was just wow.”

He laughs, and you laugh with him. “I love you, you know that? Like a lot.”

“Good. You should love me.” You exclaim, wrapping your arms around his neck. “I’m the world's best girlfriend.”

He nods, pushing the stray hairs on your face behind your ears. “You are. Seriously.”

You kiss him again, this time there’s no ulterior motive. You’re just sickeningly in love.

pairing: jeremiah fisher x fem!reader (can be read as gn) summary: upon your long awaited return to Cousins, your long-distance boyfriend Jeremiah Fisher has a special surprise planned for you... word count: 1.5k warnings: pure fluff! none other than that i think a/n: i had such a strong vision for this fic but idk if i did it proper justice! i kinda hate the ending though uhfvdjskm...

Jeremiah Fisher is nothing short of a romantic. He takes special care in absolutely spoiling you with his tooth-rotting sweetness, and today is no different. It had been a long and busy first week back in Cousins meaning you barely had any time at all to catch up with your boyfriend. Jeremiah had promised you a special evening today, just the two of you, and when you had asked him what he was planning, he simply winked at you and told you to wait and see.

So now you’re sitting on the curbside in front of your house, both your hands firmly planted on the harsh pavement below you. The sun was already starting to set and the late summer day’s humidity was making the air stick to your skin. 

You heard the familiar hum of Jeremiah’s big red jeep before you saw it, you smiled to yourself as you watched the jeep roll up next to the curb just a few feet from where you were sitting. Quickly, you pushed yourself to your feet as Jere got out of his car. His arms immediately enveloped you in a tight hug, and you left no time to hesitate before you hugged him back, resting your cheek on his shoulder as he swayed you side to side. 

His hands slip away from your torso to grab you softly by the shoulders. “I have missed you so much,” He states, pressing a chaste kiss to your lips before pulling you away from him to look you in the eyes properly. 

He hums, as his features take on a more quizzical look, soft fingers come up to cup your face as he tilts it from side to side, “did you get prettier? I didn’t think that was possible.”

“Stop teasing!” you protest, but your words come out through a fit of laughter, reaching a hand up to tousle his dirty blonde curls, “and actually, I missed you more.”

He nods his head to the side like he’s thinking before saying, “unlikely, and also impossible.”

With a defeated sigh, you give into his antics and let him win this one time. “Okay, fine. But can you please, please, tell me where we’re going? This suspense is killing me!”

Jeremiah laughs heartily, before taking your hand and twirling you around, “it’s a surprise,” he reminds you, “and I hope you’ll love it.” He takes that same hand - and in a show of his usual over-the-top-gentleman-ly behaviour - ushers you to the door which he opened smoothly with his other hand.

You stepped up into his Jeep, relishing in the familiar scent. The leather seats and the smell of the ocean. Jere shut your door before walking around and sliding into the driver's seat. You grabbed the aux cord as he shifted into drive, scrolling through your music library until you found your shared playlist.

The car ride had you feeling like you were on cloud nine, absolutely enamoured in the presence of Jeremiah after being away from him for so, so long. The two of you scream-shouting to your favourite songs and laughing at how horribly out of tune you both sounded. There was no higher form of bliss than what you were feeling now. By the time Jeremiah had stopped the car, you were parked just next to the beach, across the road from you was a small street of local food shops, including your most favourite ice creamery. A sudden thought entered your head and it made you swoon, was this Jeremiah’s special surprise? Was he planning on taking you to a sweet ice cream date?

You reach across the centre console to quickly grab Jeremiah’s forearm before he unlocks the car to get out. “Wait, is your special surprise an ice cream date?”

Suddenly, Jeremiah feels like he’s fucked up. Looking down at your big doe-eyes while he contemplates what he’s about to say next. No, the surprise was not in fact a date to the ice creamery. He had something else in mind and now he wasn’t even sure if you’d like it. And he was more than one-hundred-percent against letting you down, “well, no…” he starts, watching your expression carefully to note any sign of change or disappointment, “but we can do both if you want?”

Jeremiah looks like he’s walking on eggshells to try not to disappoint you, and while you feel guilty you also find it a bit endearing that he’d willingly change the plans he’d made for you to do something that would make you happy. “No! It’s okay,” you quickly counter, “I’m sure whatever you have planned will be just as great.”

He nods, and at first it seems unsure, but then he smirks and says, “oh trust me, it will be.”

You roll your eyes playfully as you shove his shoulder. He sends a wink your way before getting out of the Jeep and helping you out of your side, but before you can get very far on the hard deck that meets the sandy edge of the beach, Jeremiah pulls something out of his pocket. An old red bandana hangs from between his fingertips as a sly smirk forms on his lips. “First, you need to put this on.”

Crossing your arms across your chest, you scoff to yourself, “you’ve put a lot of effort into this.”

“Yes, well you're worth it all, my love,” he says in an awfully cheesy tone, paired with batting his big ocean blue eyes.

“Eugh.”

“Eugh,” he agrees, before gently wrapping the bandana around your face, covering your eyes. “Can you see?” he asks for confirmation to which you shake your head.

“I’m a blind man, Jeremiah,” you tell him. He chuckles in response before placing a hand on each of your shoulders and slowly guiding you away from the pavement of the road, and onto the hardwood deck.

You weren’t joking though, with the blindfold on you really did feel blind, your walk was stiff and unsure, and your hands occasionally shot up to brace for impact whenever your shoes caught in a particularly large gap in the deck. But nonetheless, Jere’s grip on you never loosened, and he was so careful to make sure you were safe.

"Just a little bit further," he whispered into your ear, and all but a few minutes later, he made you turn and led you down a set of stairs until your sneakers hit the sandy floor of the beach. A few more steps later, Jeremiah pulled the blindfold off your head. You squinted as your eyes struggled to adjust to the light, blinking a few times before you registered the sun just starting to set over the horizon, splitting the sky into beautiful shades of blue, purple, and pink, the reflection shimmering across the water.

It took you a few seconds (which were painstakingly long for Jeremiah) to notice the real surprise he had set up for you. On the sandy shore of the beach laid a blue plaid picnic blanket which you recognised as Sussanah’s, accompanied by a picnic basket, as well as a bouquet of beautiful flowers.

The staggering rocks that were a few metres away to your left and the tall green reeds that blended into a thicket of trees on your right made the section of the beach that Jeremiah had taken you to feel somewhat secluded; a private section of the beach just for you two.

Honestly, you couldn't believe your eyes, “all this for me?” you gasped, turning to face Jeremiah who had the audacity to look shy.

He was quick to put on his confident front, pulling you in by the waist and craning his head down until your noses were almost touching.  “Who else would it be for?” he teased, brushing a few stray hands of your hair out of your face.

You felt the blush creep onto your cheeks and you instinctively diverted your gaze back down to the sand. You had no idea how to respond.

A breathy laugh escapes his lips and he pulls away, grabbing your hand and leading you to the picnic blanket. He sits down on the soft fabric before beckoning you to do so as well. Your curiosity gets the better of you, and you lift the flap of the picnic basket to take a peek inside, and you're pleasantly surprised to see that it’s filled with some of your most favourite snacks and foods.

“So.. what do you think?” He asks, as he leans on his side to face you.

“This is so much better than ice cream.”

He laughed again, before pushing himself off the blanket and reaching over the basket to place a hand on your cheek. He caught your lips in a sweet kiss that smeared your glittery cherry lip gloss over your chin. When both of you finally pulled away, Jeremiah tugged your waist down so you were lying next to him, your head resting on his chest. 

This summer had only just begun, and yet you felt as if you could stay like this forever.

warnings: underage drinking, light fighting and shoving, cursing, homophobic aspects, etc.

summary: being belly and steven’s older sister meant you could easily tag along with the boys, unlike belly. conrad always stuck out to you in a way, but not in the way u forced yourself to believe. you hadn’t any clue of what it what’s until a very special summer.

there was mom and belly in the back seat, slowly bumping over each pothole in the road as steven drove lazily. i’d put my feet out the window, stuck my head out of it, i’d— i’d done it all.

anything to make the time pass. anything to make the drive to cousins faster. i needed it more than anything. school was becoming overwhelming. the summer had come already, but my friends had been bitches all summer.

but at cousins, there were no bitches. not conrad, not jeremiah, not susannah. in the summer house, there were angels.

i put my sunglasses on the top of my head, checking steven’s phone to look at the gps. a minute left.

though i’d been on this drive, this road to cousins many times before, there was no point of it where i memorized i was close enough. in fact, no where was close enough. not even in the driveway.

on the ride there, i was always overwhelmed with excitement that i didn’t even have time to look around. there was susannah, my second mother. and there were connie and jere.

“hey, y/n, are you excited to obsess over conrad with belly even more?” steven teased as he turned the wheel.

i grit my teeth. i liked conrad, right? so why did it make me so mad when someone reminded me i was supposed to like him?

“yeah, sure, whatever.” i whispered, finally starting to see the neighborhood.

“i wonder if clay will throw any big bangers this summer,” steven wondered aloud. i looked in the mirror and saw mom cringe.

“clay’s creepy to belly, steven. and he’s a bad influence. you won’t be hanging out with him this summer, i’ll make sure of it.” she said.

belly had been quiet the entire ride. after we’d stopped at the gas station, she’d kept to herself. she wasn’t sad or anything, just thinking.

my heart must’ve leaped about a hundred times when we finally pulled into the driveway. the house looked the same. freshly power washed.

when i thought about this, i giggled. a few years back, belly and i found susannah talking to a cleaner on the phone. we’d figured out she hired them after we left and before we came. she’d told us not to tell mom, though.

“he’s not creepy to me, so me and y/n could go with jere and conrad. maybe there we can find another boy that would take her eyes off of conrad.” steven parked the car.

“steven, stop.” i didn’t know why i got mad, but something inside me hated when steven—or anybody talked about me liking boys.

“well, i still believe connie and y/n are meant for each other. i’m still patiently waiting for the wedding.” mom said, opening her car door.

and once we were out, i wanted to send the car off a bridge. i never wanted to need it again. i never wanted to leave this house. and that’s how every summer has been.

jere was there first. he man-hugged steven and immediately started talking about his career in football, and then his eyes fell on me.

“oh, my big sister,” jere exclaimed as he came running to me, extending his arms and pulling me into a hug. “holy shit, is that real?”

he’d pointed to the snake tattoo on my wrist. i took my apple watch off so he could see it more. “yessir. got it for my eighteenth birthday.”

he smiled. “that’s sick. you should take me to get my hand tattooed when i’m eighteen.”

i smiled back at him. “when you’re eighteen.”

he hugged belly then, and i heard them talking about her contacts and her hair, and her mascara and her shorts.

i never before realized how much belly changed. it made a string on my heart twinge. my little sister was growing up.

and then there was conrad. he had come from the side of the house, smiling as his eyes locked with mine.

i ran up to him, pulling him into a hug. normally, people are shy with their crushes, so why wasn’t i shy with mine?

if i was being completely honest, conrad was like my brother.

belly had snuck out. i was sitting with conrad and his girlfriend—well, the person he was making out with— nicole, when i’d found out.

belly had stalked into the bonfire, uninvited and in a short dress. a switch flipped in me. a protective big sister switch.

“belly!” me and steven screamed at the same time. i stood up and walked over to her, followed by steven.

“WHAT are you doing here?” i asked.

belly was self conscious, and it was pretty obvious. the way she pulled her dress down, the way she pulled the straps up. the dress must have been taylor’s. “i was invited.”

steven scoffed. “by who?”

“the guy at the gas station.” she muttered, fiddling with the hem of her skirt.

“you’re not here for the guy at the gas station, belly. you shouldn’t be here at all. period,” i sighed. “that’s it.”

conrad finally looked back and saw her. he stood up too, and nicole followed him.

belly looked nicole up and down, then faced conrad. “i thought you hated the red sox.”

conrad parted his lips, getting ready to say something, but nothing came out. he closed them. “fuck you, belly.”

“ENOUGH, you two,” jere said, coming over. “ignore what they say, belly. i’m happy you’re here.”

“ ‘ignore what they say’? really, jere? we’re her older siblings, we are basically in charge of her.” steven snapped.

“so?” jere asked, and that’s when i looked down and saw the beer can in his hand. i swallowed. jere’s only seventeen. “let her have fun. she doesn’t have to be ‘good ol’ belly’ all the time. if she doesn’t risk anything, she won’t learn anything.”

i ignored him. “belly, we’re getting you home now. steven? i’m gonna take your car since you parked it closer.”

“yes ma’am.”

“no,” belly said. “i’m not leaving. you guys try to leave me out of everything, but not tonight.”

“nice try, belly. we have to go now. say your goodbyes.” i said and grabbed her arm. then, she shoved me.

i staggered back, surprised. i stares down at my chest where she’d pushed me. “you bitch!”

i pushed her. she staggered back as well, and then grabbed my arm. she threw me to the ground.

i landed in the sand harshly, my head immediately getting a head ache. everyone started to walk out of the circle they formed (i didn’t notice.)

my little sister won a five second fight against me, and now my head was throbbing.

even jeremiah, steven and conrad had left the circle. i was all alone until,

her.

she’d come over almost immediately when i fell. “are you okay, sweetie?”

i looked up at her. she was beautiful. it was one of the only times that i realized that when i look at pretty girls, i wasn’t jealous. i didn’t want to look like them. i wanted to be with them in some way.

she looked like she belonged in a museum. her black curly hair was pulled up into a bun, two strands hanging out in the front. she was wearing denim cut offs and a blouse which was slightly low cut. almost her entire arm was decked out in bracelets and around her neck was a cross necklace and a rectangular green one, like a birthstone.

“here,” she reached out her hand. “i’m cadence.”

i blinked. “uh, i’m—i’m- y/n…”

“nice to meet you, y/n. are you okay?”

she meant my head. i nodded awkwardly. “yeah, sure. my sister can be a dick sometimes.”

i glanced off for a second, catching a glimpse of belly and a boy sitting in the sand together, away from the fire. i turned back.

“it’s cool. here, let’s sit.” she sat on a lawn chair, gesturing to the one beside it. i took a seat. “i’m so glad i have someone to talk to now. this whole bonfire was awkward.”

“i’ve been going to this bonfire since i was sixteen. i love it here, no matter if there’s someone to talk to or not.” i responded. i found it easy to talk to her. she was like that.

“how old are you now?” she asked.

“uh, i just turned eighteen a few months ago.” i was so nervous that i was biting my nails.

“cool, i just turned eighteen last week.” she said, and i nodded. i couldn’t help but be relieved she was of age. it wouldn’t be illegal. but then i stopped myself. what wouldn’t be illegal?

“do you live here year-round or do you come for summers?” i asked.

“i live here year round. what about you?”

“i’m from philadelphia,” i explained. she stated at me blankly. “pennsylvania.”

“oh,” cadence gigged and i cringed at how much i loved the sound of it. “i’ve really only heard of pittsburgh.”

“my favorite place to visit, you know. the city is no new york, but it makes you feel like home, even if it isn’t home.”

“makes sense.”

i woke up the next morning with burning eyes. i’d cried the night before.

everything in my life changed after last night. everything. i wouldn’t ever be able to look at conrad the same.

i sat straight up in bed. i should tell him about it. that would make everything easier. yes! it was the perfect idea.

i got dressed, brushed my hair and my teeth, and went downstairs. conrad was up early. it was actually only eight o’clock.

“connie,” i said finally as i made it to the kitchen. “i really need to talk to you about something.”

he looked up from his cereal. “yeah?”

a deep breath. “don’t hate me.”

he nodded. “okay?”

a deep breath. “i’m… you have to accept me. you don’t have to accept it, but accept me.”

he nodded. i was wasting his time.

“look. i love you. i love you so much, my whole heart. but not the way i want to. i love you the way i love my mother, my sister. my brother. i love you the way i love my father. the way i love jere and susannah. i love you like a love song but not romantically.”

conrad’s face stood unreadable. “go on.”

i let out a deep breath. “ i don’t love you the way susannah and mom and steven and jere and belly think i do. i don’t love you to get married. i love you for me to get married and for you to get married, and i love you to unite the way our mothers do when we’re older. i couldn’t ever bring myself to love you like anything else. but cadence, i can.”

conrad smiled, amused. “who names their son ‘cadence’?”

my heart stopped. i had to keep going. it’s too late to stop. “connie. cadence was the girl i was with last night.”

he stared blankly. “the girl that helped you?” i nodded. “shes… so you’re—”

“yes,” i interrupted. “i am.”

conrad leaned back in his chair. “makes sense.”

“makes sense what?”

“i don’t know. you never seemed interested in the topic of boys or gossiping about the girls at your school like belly did.” he sighed.

“you’re not bothered?”

“no? why?” conrad asked. he was so calm with it, i could tell he was already getting used to it.

i sighed of relief. “i love you, connie.”

16. How many seasons do you want it to have?

so ideally, 3 seasons, one for each book. But I'm cool with a 4th season to extend the story beyond the book ending and explain the book ending further. Maybe it won't need it, but I think if they stick to 7 episodes per season it doesn't seem like enough time to do justice to book 3 and give the people the ending we deserve. So yes, 4 seasons with the 4th being post called off wedding, and we get to see Belly studying abroad, Laurel living her life, Steven doing whatever he's doing, Jeremiah finding happiness, Conrad thinking about Belly and giving her time but writing her letters. And then we get to see Belly and Conrad coming back together, their relationship, them getting married and Conrad becoming a doctor. Belly and Jere reconcile their friendship at some point, and we get to see that Taylor and Belly are also still friends.

And hear me out. what if at the very end, the final scene is a slight time jump forward and Belly and Conrad are now living in the summer house, but everyone comes to spend the summer there with them. The camera pans out and we see everyone arriving and Con and Belly welcoming them (maybe they even have a baby now? And Idk why but I feel like her name would be Susannah Laurel but they call her Susie). Laurel arrives maybe with some hot boyfriend? And she brings all the good sugary food Susannah always bought for the kids that she was kinda against and she says something like "someone has to fill you with sugar since Susannah isn't here to do it" and they already have diet Coke that Conrad picked up for Laurel. Steven shows up next with his wife?? maybe and he's the same old Steven, laughing and teasing everyone but especially Belly. Jeremiah arrives next and he brought fruit and extra Kool Aid for margaritas. Taylor shows up last and she's armed with games for them to play like it's a bachelorette party. After everyone brings their stuff in and gets settled in, they start making margaritas and they're using Mr. Fisher's blender and laughing. Conrad says something like "hey be careful I don't want a mess in my kitchen" but he's joking and Jere replies "you're such a dad Conrad" and Conrad says "I AM a dad now" and Belly is like "Get over yourself Mr Fisher" and everyone laughs. The boys want to do a belly flop but Belly is holding baby Susie so they have Taylor distract her and take the baby from her like she's being helpful, and then they belly flop her. Belly is pissed but everyone is laughing. Conrad walks over to help her out like a good husband but she pulls him in like he knew she would. We get to see that she is wearing the infinity necklace. And there has to be a close up shot of a picture of Susannah and the kids hanging somewhere in the house. Laurel appears with some fancy take out food cause she can't cook like Susannah did. The final shot is everyone eating dinner together, and maybe Conrad steals a kiss at the dinner table. Everyone is happy and you can feel that Susannah would be so happy for them all. As the shot fades out, Belly says in narration "summers are a little different now, but they're still the same in all the ways that matter."

so yeah, if they wanna do a super cute drawn out 4th season so we can get that ending, I'm okay with that. 4 seasons is perfect.

Matt Murdock x reader - I'm personally not a full-on song fic person, but i can't stop thinking about a fic that's (loosely) inspired by 'The Way I Loved You' by Taylor Swift. Like imagine the reader and Matt broke up bc Matt was struggling to keep his identity secret from her, and now she needs legal help and her perfectly well meaning, super nice boyfriend contacts Matt to be her lawyer. She keeps insisting that she likes how her current relationship is easy, and then they get into a petty argument and she realizes she misses it.

Conrad Fisher x reader - (first quarter-ish is actually in the drafts), basically the reader is childhood best friends with Belly and is staying in Cousins as Belly's guest for the summer, but she recently got broken up with and her ex's family happens to be renting a house at Cousins for the summer. Conrad and her come up with a fake dating plan bc he wants an alibi as he sulks and drinks by himself for most of the summer. Fake dating in the Jenny Han universe is everything to me. Considering turning it into a love triangle thing with Jeremiah but not sure how I feel about that lol. Could see this having multiple parts.

Anakin Skywalker x reader (rewatched a couple movies on my flight and it woke up a bunch of my old feels lol) - reader is royalty and Anakin's been assigned to get her through a difficult political time where people keep attempting assassinate members of the royal family, but while that's happening she's meeting with suitors bc she has to get married and he gets jealous. Also could see the reader being portrayed as kind of chaotic and wanting nothing to do with a body guard and then when anakin pulls up she's like oh no :0 he's hot Could see this as a multi-part fic with me adding some world building stuff just bc i want to practice that.

Something I find interesting about tsitp s3 and its filming is how no one is really treating this season as the finale of the show. Granted, we have yet to see how the promos go for the upcoming season, but from what I’ve seen fans are viewing s3 as a way to conclude the series’ overarching love triangle, but not as a goodbye to its characters. I’ve heard rumors about potential spinoffs for the series, so what characters and stories do you think these spinoffs will revolve around? I also don’t know if there’s going to be a fourth season of tsitp, but if there was one, what do you think the season will be about? How many episodes would it have? And what would the title for the fourth installment be considering that the titles for each of the books in the trilogy follow a summer theme?

i've said this before but my hope would be moreso that s3 is "we'll always have summer: part 1" and then s4 will be "we'll always have summer: part 2"

essentially i want s3 to end with the wedding being called off and s4 to be everything after (with added details about the other characters' stories). i feel like this is the only way to pace things in a way that does justice to belly and conrad's reunion -- at the most, we'll get the penultimate episode ending with the wedding called off and then only one episode to fit belly's time abroad, the letters from conrad, her graduation, and their wedding at the very end. i personally don't want that!! i want her personal growth and bonrad growing back together to be given the time it needs to be fleshed out. again, i haven't read the books but i've even seen book fans (bonrad and 🪼 alike) complain that the ending was so rushed. bonrad's endgame is so clearly inevitable, but it deserves more time. i feel like with the obvious success and popularity of the show, jenny should take advantage and get that bag 😂 but also she has said before that she wrote these books like 10 years ago and the show is a way for her to grow and evolve the story how she would write it now, so i'm hoping that lends itself to wanting to elongate the story itself

i'm not sure how to make it to a s4 any other way than this?? i guess if s3 is all of book 3, then s4 could be a brand new story about bonrad's life together after marriage, possibly steven and taylor's life together, how laurel evolves (hopefully with cleveland??), and how jeremiah moves on and the trio's relationship heals. i have no idea what this continuation would be "called" because "we'll always have summer" is such a conclusionary title... but i'm sure jenny's brilliant mind could come up with something that fits

i don't think any spinoffs are necessary tbh i guess the only one i would be interested in would be steven and taylor but again that story could easily be achieved with a s4 rather than their own show. other than that, maybe laurel but idk if she's popular enough to achieve a successful solo show. the only real rumors i've seen are about a jeremiah spinoff and i could not give a single fuck about that 😂

We live devoutly in this age, as we await the blessed hope, the appearance of our savior Jesus Christ.

Beloved: You must say what is consistent with sound doctrine, namely, that older men should be temperate, dignified, self-controlled, sound in faith, love, and endurance. Similarly, older women should be reverent in their behavior, not slanderers, not addicted to drink, teaching what is good, so that they may train younger women to love their husbands and children, to be self-controlled, chaste, good homemakers, under the control of their husbands, so that the word of God may not be discredited.

Urge the younger men, similarly, to control themselves, showing yourself as a model of good deeds in every respect, with integrity in your teaching, dignity, and sound speech that cannot be criticized, so that the opponent will be put to shame without anything bad to say about us.
