Honestly, I'm a little confused as to why authors often ignore Kakashi's pain in fanfics when it comes to forgiving Obito. Okay, I'll clarify similarly in a moment.

Very often(sorry, actually always, I can't remember a fic where that wasn't) it's Obito who doesn't forgive Kakashi, it's Obito who insults Kakashi and humiliates Kakashi when Kakashi asks for forgiveness and for Obito to be there for him and live. Or something like that. I've never once seen Kakashi being the one who refuses to forgive Obito for all the shit he's done.

Yeah, it's part of Kakashi's character. In canon, Kakashi was pretty quick to accept the fact that Obito was alive all along and terrorizing the world, setting it up for endless dream and war. But I honestly think it was more due to the fact that Kakashi didn't have time to think and analyze the situation. For Obito didn't give him time to realize.

Yes, Kakashi has a guilt complex the size of Everest. But Kakashi is not Naruto. He doesn't forgive everything and everyone. I'm pretty sure Kakashi cried the first night after the war. Because his childhood friend had killed half of Kakashi's loved ones and was responsible for a huge mess. I want an inner conflict Kakashi who can let go of Obito, he can understand and accept Obito but not forgive. And he won't grovel to Obito to ask for him.

I really want a post war au with Obito alive, where Kakashi doesn't try on Naruto's skin and play forgiveness from the first second. He's been going to this for a very long time, with or without Obito.

Kakashi literally hasn't done a damn thing he should be apologizing for. Rin's death? Really? That's ridiculous. She killed herself using Kakashi. And it was all Madara and Zetsu's plan. I'm 100% sure that if Rin had saved herself at that point, she or Kakashi would have died anyway so that Obito would have gone over to the evil side. That's it, there's nothing there anymore for Obito to be mad at Kakashi about.

On the other side? Dude, that's fucking fucked up. Years of loneliness, the death of Minato and Kushina and Naruto's subsequent isolation, the village destroyed twice, the whole damn Uchiha clan(let's not forget that Itachi is Kakashi's kohai as well as Tenzo, and Sasuke is Kakashi's student/kid and what happened to them is 70% Obito's fault), Asuma(one of Kakashi's close friends), Neji(precious student of Kakashi's best friend), Jiraiya, the goddamn war and much, much, much more. Why the hell do the writers ignore all that when the kakaobi get together? Ignore the fact that Kakashi lost a lot because of Obito? Kakashi should be feeling emotions over this, guilt complex or not.

And Obito should have consequences for his actions, especially when they had the strongest impact on the one and only person most precious in Obito's life.

Your post just made me remember my thoughts and emotions regarding Sai and Kakashi. Of how much trust he placed in Sai to actually keep things from danzo, the man who essentially raised him (shittily and to be a weapon, yes, but still firmly ingrained in his mind and memories as an authority and mentor) because he can see him attempting to change and be more than Root taught him to be.

How much of Yamato-Tenzo-Kinoe must Kakashi have seen in Sai. And how that trust is rewarded, just like how it was when he decided as a teen to trust his kohai.

Kakashi could see the good in Sai and he was ready and willing to extend a hand out toward that good. To trust it

parts of himself, of his stolen cells, which burrow into his flesh each time he uses mokuton. they spray around him, leaving countless knicks and divots in their wake--palms and forearms permanently crisscrossed with them. there's even a small scar beneath his right eyebrow from a wood fragment that nearly pierced his eye once.

he studies it often in his reflection, trying to remember if he was kinoe, then, or tenzo. was his hair longer? had he met kakashi-senpai, yet?

yamato doesn't remember.

the years all bleed together, barely discernible, though that may only be because he is unwilling to examine any part of his life too closely. afraid if he does, he may not appreciate what he finds, what he brings back; which memories might be dredged from the murky bottom of his mind.

let them stay there. let them sink, heavy, into the silt so he can forget them.

each existence forced upon him in some way and he has tried to make the best of what he's given, but there are some things he still cannot face. the way he's been used as a weapon, his power harnessed to harm those he wishes, still, he might have protected.

what name could he give the monster he has been? none of those he's worn before seem to fit it.

perhaps it must be just that. monster. murderer. maybe that's what has always been there, waiting for him to recognize it. give it a title. since the tube, since he stole a dead boy's name so he could pretend he came from something good and loving and kind instead of sterile and indifferent.

awash in eerie green light, the blood of those who didn't survive their incubation.

he curls his injured hand into a fist, focuses on the sting of the cuts as they split open again. his palm will be sticky with blood by the time he arrives home, but he will disinfect the cuts, won't even jump at the sting of the antiseptic because he has done it so many times before, because it is still so much easier than tearing himself apart from within to create something that should be impossible--a thing equal parts deadly and beautiful.

I also like to see Zack, Daniel or everyone trying to unmask him only to fail since Kakashi is such a trickster.

TOO MANY TO CONTAIN IN MY LITTLE HEAD

I love the idea that Kakashi introduced Yamato to so much! He really helped him grow as a person, and showed him that there was more to life - and to being a shinobi - than becoming a mindless tool for your superiors.

But having Yamato on his team really helped Kakashi, too.

Like, obviously, Kakashi met Tenzou in the midst of his bad PTSD/depression phase, and that didn't magically go away because he had a kohai to care for. He was in a pretty messed up place when they booted him from ANBU.

He might not have been willing to take his own life, after what happened to his father, but he is deeeefinitely willing to die unnecessarily on a mission. He takes the hardest, most suicidal solos; he dives in front of every blade that flies at any member of his team... He's big on self-sacrifice to the point where it becomes suicidal ideation and self harm.

And Yamato sees that. Up close and personal.

He's fucked up in the head, too. He still struggles to make his own choices. He's uncomfortable with selecting his own food at restaurants for years, and has to slooooowly build up his own opinions on simple things like clothing or favourite colours.

Sidenote: I like to think Kakashi randomly springs questions on him that he's never had cause to think about before, like 'what's your favourite animal?', just to help him gain more ownership over his own personality🥺 Maybe Yamato copies the copy ninja a lot at first?? But then he tries to read Icha Icha one time and goes 'LOLNOPE THIS IS A BAD IDEA' and starts defining himself instead sdlkfgjhsdfkg

Point is, he's no therapist. And Kakashi's the team leader - he looks after them. Yamato doesn’t know how to stage an intervation without breaking the chain of command.

But after months of dancing around the issue, pretending not to see how Kakashi flings himself into every fight like he doesn't care if he comes out the other side, how he's twisted his philosophy of protect your friends (a philosophy Yamato still struggles to understand) into this strange delusion that his life is worth inherently less...

Well. Fate conspires to ensure that Yamato can't ignore Kakashi’s self-destruction any longer.

He sits by Kakashi's hospital bed. Watching him breathe.

In, out. In, out. Each rise of his chest a tiny miracle.

Yamato slows his own breaths to match. They're considerably less obstructed, given the lack of a plastic tube shoved down his throat.

Bandages bulk sempai's chest, filling out his shape under the sheets like he's still strapped into his ANBU armour. He took a kunai to the lung for Yamato. A kunai that could've easily been deflected with Mokuton - at least, so Yamato thinks. Still, he had a solid chance, and sempai knows him well enough - has fought him enough - to know that.

Point is, there was no need for Kakashi to get hurt. But he got hurt anyway.

And here they are again, in a familiar room that Yamato suspects has Kakashi's name on the door, treated by a doctor who refers to sempai by his surname, not his ANBU code. In familiar positions too: Kakashi on the bed, nursed back from the brink and undoubtedly mad about it. Yamato on the chair, mad at him.

It takes him embarrassingly long to realise sempai isn't asleep - just feigning it, waiting for him to go away. Like he doesn't want to face him. Like he's ashamed.

Good, thinks Yamato. Sempai should be.

He sinks lower on his chair and glowers through the eyeholes of his porcelain mask.

The medics care little for ANBU eccentricities; they've removed both of Kakashi's own masks in order to intubate. The longer Yamato stares, the more Kakashi shifts, until he's not even pretending to sleep anymore. He makes a feeble attempt to pull the covers up over his nose.

Right. Sempai hates it when people stare at his face.

Yamato crosses his arms and refuses to blink.

"You," he says, "are very cruel, you know."

Kakashi's dark eye flicks to him. The other twitches behind its scarred lid, but stays shut. Pale lashes cast shadows on his cheeks. He makes a gurgly noise around the tube that might be a denial or an apology. Either way, Yamato doesn't want to hear it.

"How many people have died for you?" he demands.

Kakashi looks away. Too many.

Yamato squeezes his thumbs at the centre of his fists until they ache. It's the wrong way to throw a punch, but right now, they're only sparring with words - and it's a one-sided match.

That's for the best. Sempai can sweet-talk his way out of anything. Right now, Yamato needs him to shut up and listen.

"So, you know what it feels like. And you would inflict that on me? You'd make me watch you die for me?"

Kakashi's shoulders stiffen. Then, slowly, slump. He slackens against his bed like he's finally given up the ghost, staring dully at the ceiling. No more gurgles. It seems that, for once in his life, he has nothing clever to say.

Yamato leans over him. His expression is wooden as ever, under his mask, but all the churning emotions inside him - anger sempai would put himself in this position, relief that he made it, absolute terror that he'll do this again - manifest in the tremble in his hand, as he grips Kakashi's wrist.

"Don't," he says. Though it's not the subordinate's place to question a taichou, he pushes as much authority into the word as he can muster. "Don't you fucking dare, sempai. Don't leave me like that."

ANBU die. It's practically in the job description. Yamato has made his peace with it: his own death, and that of his comrades. What he cannot accept - what he cannot abide - is that Kakashi, who helped him to give his life meaning, might throw his own away. Like it means nothing. Like he means nothing.

"Don't," Yamato repeats.

Kakashi still doesn't look at him. But he nods once, order accepted.

Yamato trusts him implicitly in the field. They've trained together for years, and fought together too, taking down foes back-to-back and side-to-side. He knows Kakashi as well as the balance on his own knives.

He wishes he could trust him right now.

headcanon : hatake kakashi is ✨ gay ✨ and would have fallen deeply in love with his very much bisexual anbu kohai uchiha itachi while on an assassination mission.

in this alternate universe, the massacre remains a mystery to all but the hokage and danzo. itachi carries around the secret like the weight of the world while raising his kid brother sasuke, who has no memory or knowledge of itachi's participation in the massacre.

over time, itachi and kakashi grow closer and closer. itachi has no idea why, but he trusts kakashi and feels extremely drawn to him. meanwhile kakashi does nothing but try and wait for his infatuation with him to pass, mindful of the almost ten years between them and itachi's only recent coming of age. but it just doesn't. he remains fascinated with his simultaneous gentleness and deadliness, as well as with the sadness in his eyes whenever he smiles like a child.

itachi remains clueless of kakashi's love for him for 2 years. during which time, kakashi has also become his little brother's sensei. kakaita are close friends now, who talk about nothing and everything. one night, while they are discussing their families fondly, kakashi kisses him and itachi remains entirely wide eyed and frozen. kakashi apologizes quickly and itachi simply answers "no. it's okay".

the next week, kakashi asks to switch partners without telling itachi who becomes - entirely out of character for him - furious. he hunts down kakashi, to throw the stupid sex book he gave him in his stupid, beautiful, handsome, idiotic face. and suddenly realizes what he is thinking and how incredibly beautiful he is and is overcome with the need to hold him. which he does when he finds him in his appartment. they stay in each other's embrace for god knows how long, hearts pounding, until itachi, who is only slightly shorter than kakashi, looks up and deep into his eyes before kissing him slowly with his characteristical calmness. this time, it's kakashi's turn to be surprised before kissing him back softly. "you know, if we do this... we're gonna have to tell sasuke." itachi chuckles but acknowledges the comment in no other way, as he mindless intertwines his fingers with kakashi's and goes into his appartment.

they start their relationship in secret and fall deeply in love. itachi is torn inside - he wants to tell kakashi about the massacre, feels that he owes him the truth. he is terrified that kakashi will leave him and never look at him again. not to mention that that would mean breaking a thousand protocols. and that in the slightest chance that he would not mind it, would mean putting him in the position of keeping it a secret from the world as well - including from his brother. but not to tell him also means that he would be letting their love become a lie, as kakashi does not truly know who he is. so he tells him. and kakashi pets his head softly. "i'm sorry you had to go through that alone". they kiss and never speak of it again. kakashi knows that itachi will tell sasuke eventually and trusts him even more than before. he tells him he loves him for the very first time the next morning. after that, they go public and become the anbu's hottest couple.

bonus : sasuke is infinitely annoyed that his aniki is dating his sensei and wants to kill them both for their lack of common sense - also didn't itachi like izumi ? how come he likes a guy now ? 14-year-old cis straight saucy is very confused and very annoyed by these wildly inappropriate adults and goes out of his way to disturb them - and sometimes enlist naruto or sakura to help him (when taking a break from preparing his revenge on the mysterious murderer of his family).

Kakashi is not used to the kindness that Tenzo unknowingly showers him with. Kakashi isn’t sure he deserves this kindness but Tenzo gives it so freely that Kakashi can not bring himself to dismiss it. He looks at him with a reverence he doesn’t deserve and consciously and frequently seeks him out. Sometimes it’s not even to train even though that’s what he’d be doing. He’ll just settle somewhere near him and watch him or eat or even take a nap. He brings him lunch because “rations are not a proper replacement for actual nutrients” and it doesn’t surprise him that Tenzo has picked on what he likes and dislikes.

On their free days, when they both do train together, Kakashi summons his pack once they’ve called it quits. Like clockwork, Tenzo’s face lights up and he breaks out in a large grin and calls his dogs to him and of course, they all come and smother him. It’s moments like these that make Kakashi’s heart flutter because Tenzo doesn’t have to spend time with him or play with his pack but he does and it’s been a long time since his heart has felt this light.

It’s… It’s nice.

Gai tries, he does, but it wears down on his friend and Kakashi won’t stain him even further with his problems. Tenzo is like him though and that makes all the difference. It’s not that Kakashi wants to drag him down but he is far less reluctant with him than Gai. Tenzo can understand in a way Gai can not. Tenzo is different from Gai in a way that Kakashi can’t quite put to words. Gai is his closest friend but the feelings that swell in his chest concerning Tenzo are vastly different.

Gai is sencha and strength on a spring day while Tenzo is a forest of tranquility and warmth and kindness. If Gai is a spring day, then Tenzo is an autumn day, the steady changes comforting in its own way. He is friend, kohai, comrade, and more. There is no proper word to describe him, not in the language he’s been taught to speak.

He wants to wake up in the morning and be greeted with that small, adoring smile that Tenzo only uses for him. He wants to hear Tenzo laugh freely at the stupid puns he makes solely for that reaction. He wants-

Kakashi wants Tenzo fervently.

He wants the soft mornings, the eventful days, and the sleepy nights. He wants the good, the bad, and everything in between. He wants everything Tenzo is willing to give him.

He is a selfish man and knows that if Tenzo ever gave in to him, he would never let him go. It would only take one push, one simple action, but neither of them have taken that step off the ledge.

Kakashi won’t be the one to initiate though. For all that he wants, it must be Tenzo to act on whatever it is they have.

So, he’ll enjoy this time he has with him and cherish it, holding it tight to his chest.

You’re My Favorite You Know

Yamato was nobody’s favorite.

He was not his students favorite teacher. If you asked the members of Team 7 who their favorite teacher was, Naruto would probably say either Kakashi or Jiraya, Sakura would say Lady Tsunade, and Sai would say that he did not pick favorite’s. Yamato did not know who Sasuke would say, but it certainly wasn’t him. He was not even entirely sure that Sasuke knew his name.

He was also nobody in ANBU’s favorite. Yamato was sure they liked him enough, after all he had served as a Captain for many years and had the best service record in all of ANBU history. But, being liked “enough” was not the same as being anybody’s favorite. Yamato was too weird, too creepy, too awkward. They didn’t like his unblinking eyes or his ninjutsu stolen from their long dead Hokage. So, sure they wouldn’t complain about serving under Captain Yamato, but they didn’t exactly celebrate either. Even for the ANBU Black Ops, he was a little too inhuman. Even Friend-Killer Kakashi was better liked.

For a while, when he was young, Yamato had thought that maybe he was Kakashi’s favorite. Or if he wasn’t, that he would be eventually. They had served in ANBU together, Kakashi was Tenzo’s (as he was called then) beloved Senpai. He had believed that they had a special relationship, that they were each other’s favorites. That had been a foolish dream though fueled by his own ego more than anything. He had relished in the special bond that he thought he and Kakashi had shared, until Yamato had met Maito Gai. He saw the way the two boys interacted, saw the happy look in Kakashi’s eyes that he had never seen before, and realized that whatever feelings Kakashi felt for his kohai, they were nothing compared to his all encompassing love for his Rival. Gai and Kakashi were each other’s favorite’s, the ones they treasured above all others. Sure one of them was much louder about it than the other, but it was an undeniable truth, as much up for debate as the inevitability of the sunrise in the morning or the stars at night. They were Eternal Rivals, and Yamato was just the guy that they hung out with sometimes. It wasn’t a bad thing, it just was. That was what Yamato told himself at least whenever saw them kissing or holding hands, each looking at the other like he was a precious treasure. It was what he told himself when his chest hurt so bad from jealousy he felt like Kakashi had punched through it with his Chidori.

In dark moments, Yamato wondered if he had been Orochimaru’s favorite. The thought always passed quickly though. Orochimaru had left before he even learned of Yamato’s existence. In even darker moments, Yamato wondered if he had been Danzo’s favorite. This also passed though because Danzo loved nothing and no one, and Yamato would be lying to himself to think any different.

Yamato was nobody’s favorite. He was just the cheap replacement for Kakashi for Team 7 and a cheap replacement for Hashirama for the village. He was nothing. Nobody’s favorite.

Very unfortunate that a huge portion of fans in the fandom wanna see Kakashi, Obito, Gai, Yamato and so many others re-enact The Bachelor... I mean, c'mon!!! Why do a whole host of people ONLY see value in a romantic relationship? Romance is very enjoyable, there's no denying that, BUT! Platonic/Ambiguous relationships are just as interesting and impactful as romantic ones... These characters would go to the ends of the Earth for the people they love platonically, and are fundamentally changed because of that devotion, so why???

It's like pretending that the color red is the only one that exists, while blatantly ignoring the rest of the rainbow!

Deeply co-dependent romantic relationships can be very, very interesting; and there's no shame at all in dissecting those dynamics or finding them entertaining. I guess it just gets a little tiring to only see THAT dynamic become popular in fandom spaces, y'know? 😕

(Apologies for my little ranty rant, I see this all too often as well, and it's very annoying! The friend I'd go to a party with isn't greater or lesser than the bud I go to the store with. The bonds we share may be different, but they're equally valuable to me!)

Exactly this!

Each bond that people have are deeply important and do not out way any other in value or importance. I would go to bat for my husband, best friend, mother, all of my cousin’s. Like, none of these relationships i have could ever replace another so why should a character’s?

Ignoring the diffrences in relationships and the value each holds is honestly kind of boring and i try really hard in my writing not to forget that.

Obito is the one who helped Kakashi see that his father was not in the wrong. He was happy to stand up and tell Kakashi he was wrong, not as a higher ranked shinobi but as his team mate. Kakashi accepted Obito’s eye so he could see the world with it. See the future.

Gai is Kakashi’s longest friend. He has been there with Kakashi through everything. When Obito was out there playing dead trying to put an end ti the world, Gai was fighting to stay by Kakashi’s side. To pull him out if darkness and bacj into the light. Gai and Kakashi have each other’s backs litterally. In battle Kakashi and Obito fight side to side. Kakashi and Gai fight back to back. Gai is the only person Kakashi fights back to back with. They are each other’s supports and protectors.

Kakashi is Yamato’s light. It may seem strange but Kakashi reached out and pulled Yamato out of his darkness and gave him a hope that he hadn’t had before. Kakashi put Yamato over the hokage’s order’s and faced down all of Root for him. Yamato is the only one you see Kakashi tease. He never teases Obito, obito would get mad. He never teases Gai, Gai would get even. But Yamato? His sweet Kohai who refuses to stop calling him that? Bully’s him endlessly.

Each of Kakashi’s bond’s is unique and beautiful, and they should not be pitted against each other. Kakashi would not be the person he is without all three of those people and so many more.

Saying any of them is more important than the other’s is blatantly wrong. I ship Kakagai over all other ships at the end of the day but i’m not going to pretend that only Gai was important to Kakashi. Obito was the one who helped him see hope. Gai kept him in the light. Yamato was the one he could return all of that to.

Accidental Happyness

Pouring himself another glass of Sake, Kakashi rolled his eyes when Tenzo waved his own empty glass in front of his face. “Use your words, Tree boy.” 

“pfft, you have no room to talk,” Tenzo argued, slamming his glass down on the table in front of Kakashi and watching him fill it. “You don’t know how to say anything. Whether you want it, or you hate it. You never use your words, Senpai. So why should I?”

Two drinks in and Tenzo was drunk already.

And here he had thought his Kohai would have become less of a lightweight over the years.

His mistake.

“I do so use my words,” he argued. “I use them all the time. To tell Naruto to listen to the plan, beg Naruo to not give me a headache for just one day, sweet talk you when i want free lunch,” he got a particularly nasty glare for that one. “oh, and i can always talk about Iruka. I could talk about him and his stupid pretty face all day.” 

Tenzo’s glass drops from his hand, crashing down on the table while Tenzo turns to glare at him.

“Don’t you dare talk about his pretty face, Senpai,” he growls out in warning. “That’s my pretty academy sensei. I’ve been staring at that pretty face for months trying to ask him out.”

“Months,” Kakashi huffed. “I’ve been trying to ask him out since the first time i met him years ago, but life kept happening.” He’s not even exaggerating there. First he needed to let Iruka focus on Naruto and hope that the academy Sensei could give his student the love and care of a big brother that he has never been able to. Then he got Team Seven and everything went to shit. Even with the increased sightings of a particularly adorable sensei, he never had a free chance to ask him out. “I’ve been trying to do it for years. I get first dibs.”

“First dibs my butt!” He doesn’t need to look to know that everyone in the place is now looking at them. Tenzo had yelled so loud he’s certain people in Suna could have heard him. “You owe me, Senpai. I put up with your shit with no complaints…”

“That sounds like a complaint to me, actually.” Kakashi argued.

“You know what i mean!” Tenzo slammed his hands down on the table, making Kakashi question whether that third drink was a smart idea after all. “I get to ask out the cute Sensei. You can let me have this one thing, Senpai.”

“You act as if I never give you anything,” He grumbled under his breath. “I’m not the big, bad, mean Senpai you seem to think I am, Tenzo. I give you cuddles when you want them don’t i?”

He’s pretty sure Tenzo was about to answer him before he dropped that last sentence. His mouth was open ready for an argument, and then he heard ‘cuddles’ and it looked as if his brain had shattered into a million pieces.

“D-don’t say that out loud!” The Mokuton user shouted suddenly, his eyes wider than normal. 

“Too late,” resting one arm on the table, Kakashi propped his chin on top of his hand and smiled at his friend. “Beside’s, I think it’s a fair trade. You get all the cuddles you could ask for, I get the cute sensei. We both get what we want, right?”

“Not right,” Tenzo hissed. “Not right at all. That’s completely unfair and no amount of free cuddles is going to change my mind.”

Opening his mouth, Kakashi started to respond to Tenzo’s argument when a hand suddenly came down between the two of them and slammed down on the table.

“One night,” both of them cringed when they heard a familiar voice. “I go out for one night to enjoy myself, and all i hear while i’m trying to relax with my friends is two Jonin’s trying to argue over who gets to...to…”

“Date you!” Kakashi can hear Genma calling through the crowd. 

Always helpful that one. 

“Thank you, Genma,” Iruka grumbled under his breath. “You two, Ichiraku Ramen tomorrow after my classes are done. Do not be late.” He directs that last comment towards Kakashi with a glare. “If you are late, we continue without you.”

“O-ok.” He’s not really sure what else to say to that. It seems pretty straight forward, no argument needed.

Except, as soon as Iruka walks away from them with a satisfied nod, his brain kicks into gear again.

“Did he...are we…” The words refuse to come to him.

“I think i’m in love,” Tenzo’s eyes followed Iruka through the crowd. “No, i know i’m in love. That was amazing.”

“Tenzo!” Reaching out, Kakashi grabbed his friends shoulders and gave them a shake. “Tenzo stay with me. He just asked us out. Both of us.”

“Aww, no,” Tenzo pouted. “I have to share him with you? You always hog everything from me.”

Ok, he was definitely going to give Tenzo shit for that comment.

After he dealt with the mental crisis going on in his brain from being asked out by Konoha’s resident hottie.

How was he going to explain this to Naruto if things worked out?

‘Sorry Naruto. Tenzo and I are dating your favorite Sensei and there’s nothing you can do about it’

He’s certain that’s not going to sit well with his student at all, and that he and Tenzo were going to have to react fast just to avoid getting rasanganed through a wall.
