Choices Fandom Shoutout Day

Firstly, I have to send all my thanks to the wonderful @choicesfandomappreciation and @lovealexhunt for running this event and the constant work to connect the fandom and always boosting creators! I have spent half the night scrolling through everyones posts, discovering new people and appreciating the happiness it has brought so many!

About a year ago I gave up ghost reading everyones blogs and caved by making an account. Slowly but surely I have come to connect with amazing people who, god knows why, have shown me so much kindness! Thank you so much for being the best discovery this last year! ❤️❤️❤️

@burnsoslow I swear you were the first person to ever reach out to me and I don't think you'll ever know how much I appreciated it as a 'small fish is a big pond'! You are such a supportive rock to everyone and your kindness shines in every post. Don't even get me started on your incredible storywriting and the ability to make me love Drake as a die hard Liam fan hahaha! I love you Burnsy ❤️

Yuletide 2020 Letter

Dear potential writer,

I truly hope all is well with you and yours. No matter what state you find yourself in, my wish is that Yuletide boosts your spirits and gives you the extra jolt we all could use to usher in the new year.

Thank you for taking the time to read my letter and thank you in advance if you decide to write anything for me!

Below are my desired fandoms and pairings along with story ideas that I would love to see written. Please don’t feel stifled by my prompts; I’ve also listed my general likes and dislikes at the very bottom of this letter if you decide to go a different route.

Little Women (2019):

Characters: Amy March and Theodore “Laurie” Laurence”

The main reason I adore this adaptation is because it made me see why Amy and Laurie ended up together. They had very similar worldviews and fit so well what the other needed. Both deserved to be with someone that valued them for who they are. With Laurie, Amy was not just financially secure but with someone who encouraged her to express herself creatively, politically, or however she chose. With Amy, while she grounded Laurie in reality and challenged him to be the best version of himself, he didn't have to fundamentally change to make her happy.

Story ideas:

These quotes really show how Amy's perspective on life was different than her sister's: "You are your family's hope." (Aunt March) "I’ve always known I would marry rich." (Amy March) That's a lot of pressure on someone so young. We heard some of Laurie's thoughts, mostly that he didn't think Amy should feel ashamed for wanting that. How would some of that pressure continue even after she got married, and what would Laurie say to make her realize they were in life together as a team and she didn’t have to suffer the weight of the world alone?

The conversation between Amy and Laurie in the painting studio showed just how level-headed and intelligent she was. Laurie, while not wholly agreeing, was respectful and didn't discount her thoughts. It would be interesting to see the impact on their story if Vaughn hadn't arrived, and this had played out more. Would the proposal have happened earlier and/or how would later scenes be altered as a result of further conversation?

What did the other characters think of Amy and Laurie's relationship, and how did it change after seeing them interact more as a couple? It would be interesting to read about Meg, Marmee, John, or some of the other characters realizing they were genuinely a good match for each other.

Post-canon, I'd love to get a glimpse of what kinds of conversations they had. Did Amy encourage Laurie to pursue a career and find what he was passionate about (music perhaps as Laurie mentioned writing an opera)? And similarly, did Laurie encourage Amy to pursue her art? Did they continue to have in-depth conversations about societal pressures and expectations of gender in certain economic classes?

Tenet:

Characters: The Protagonist, Kat, and Neil

Tenet is the first movie I've seen in theaters since Star Wars IX. There have been some mixed reviews, but my love for Christopher Nolan sci-fi films combined with the experience of stepping foot in a theater again made it a wonderful experience for me. Sure, the plot could be confusing at times, but it was fun trying to fit certain puzzle pieces together and oh so thrilling when things just clicked into place in the most satisfying ways.

I adored the dynamic between Neil and the Protagonist. The easy friendship, the banter, the suits... everything. I also loved the relationship between the Protagonist and Kat. It started off as each using the other but transformed into one of genuine care on both sides. Ever the romantic, I definitely saw something more than just friendship between the two and was slightly disappointed the movie didn't explore that aspect more.

For pairings, I’m interested in friendships between all of the characters. I’d be interested in seeing a romantic relationship between Kat and the Protagonist if you’re up for that, but not between Neil and Kat, nor Neil and the Protagonist. If you really want to give a romantic partner to Neil, I'd be fine with Laura (or an original female character if she’s not the focus of the story), but please, no slash. While I’d be ecstatic to see all three characters together, if you can only find a way to fit in two, that’s wonderful as well!

Story ideas:

Even though Andrei Sator is gone, there are still other players in the game, some like Priya, who want to eliminate Kat or even abduct her with the delusional idea she can continue her husband's work. The Protagonist (and Neil, if you so choose) ensures no harm comes to her, and he realizes that keeping her at a distance may not have been the best idea.

I personally don't buy into the fan theory that Neil is Kat's son Max; however, I do find the idea intriguing and would be up for reading about how that worked. The Protagonist breaks his rule and sees Kat, helping to raise her son Max/Neil and eventually teaching him about inversion.

The Protagonist doesn't have to wait quite as long as he'd thought to see Neil again. It can be the Neil who had already met him and knows about Tenet or the Neil who knows nothing about inversion.

What conversations did Neil and Kat have while the Protagonist was asleep after almost freezing to death? Maybe Neil explained the finer workings of Tenet and inversion more in-depth. Perhaps they discussed the Protagonist.

Clueless:

Characters: Cher Horowitz and Josh Lucas

This movie set the bar high for teen romantic comedies. How can anyone ever beat 90s Alicia Silverstone and Paul Rudd? Plus, the relationship between their two characters is fantastic. Josh and Cher just bring out the best in each other. Cher shows Josh that he doesn't need to be so serious all of the time and that people are more than their outer appearances. Josh makes Cher want to be a better person, and he believes that she's not just a pretty face. Their banter and playful moments always make me smile.

Story ideas:

Knowing Josh and Cher end up together, this brings a heightened awareness to rewatches. They have so many casual touches and exchanged glances (when did Paul Rudd's eyes get so blue?) that it's hard to miss their natural chemistry. It may take quite some time for Cher's dad to notice anything has changed because they don't act all that different from before. Is there something that makes him finally take notice? How does he react?

Sort of related to the last prompt, there's a moment where Josh decides to go to the dance to keep an eye on Cher and Christian, and you can tell by Mel Horowitz’s smirk he realizes Josh has a crush on Cher. Does he do anything to push it along or play matchmaker just like his daughter?

I've always been curious about whether or not Josh believes Cher's story about being assaulted in the car by Elton and then held at gunpoint. We skip over Josh pulling up to the phone booth and go straight to Cher already being in the car. How did Josh react when she reiterated the story, and does he instantly believe her, or does it take some convincing? I'd like to see if he comforts her and if they both go together to tell Cher's dad what happened.

Cher is obviously very intelligent socially, if not always so much academically. When it comes time to apply for college, what does she major in? And how is Josh a positive influence in Cher's life, encouraging her to be ambitious and not letting negative comments from guidance counselors or teachers dissuade her?

Things I don’t like:

Alternate Universes – For the specific fandoms that I picked, I really like the universes as they are. I’m definitely okay with deviations from canon, but please don’t make Little Women into a supernatural werewolf story or have Tenet take place in a mundane coffee shop setting. (I don’t mind Soulmate AUs or something similar because those can be incorporated into canon with little change to worldbuilding).

Non-Con/Rape/BDSM/Sexual Violence/Graphic Sex – I like my characters to be happy and everything within ships to be 100% consensual, no question about it (mentions of non-con if it occurred in canon is fine). I also prefer plot over porn, especially with one-shots.

OT3s – Two people per romantic relationship, please. Any more than that makes me uncomfortable.

Character Bashing - Unless a character is a bad guy in canon, I don’t want to read hundreds of words about how awful they are, especially if they are one of the characters that I requested. Don’t take it out on the characters. If you hate my pairings, just write gen.

Things I love:

Hurt/Comfort – There is nothing I love more than one character comforting another. The hurt can be physical, psychological, or both.

Happy Endings – I’m all for the realistic endings… but if they could be plausible AND at least happy-ish, that would be amazing.

Expanded Scenes/Contorting Canon – Feel free to expand scenes and change up the canon to your heart’s content as long as it makes logical sense.

Humor/Banter/Snark – I thrive on this stuff.

Bonding/Building Relationships – Whether it be a friendship or a romantic relationship, I adore reading about two people growing closer together. When characters know each other so well that they can have conversations with just their eyes or anticipate the person’s next move (especially if it’s to the surprise/confusion of everyone around them), my shipper heart is thrilled.

Dark to Light – Seeing a character come out of a bad mindset or situation and get better is so satisfying.

This post is for folks on mobile to see my character roster. It will be updated as regularly as I need to/can.

Bailey the Gardevoir

The original main character of this blog, a male gardevoir who was told my his mother he was destined to be a great warrior. He had always assumed this meant he was going to become a gallade, and so trained to use weapons to be that much greater. Needless to say he was very disappointed when he became a gardevoir.

It’s been some time since then and he has come to terms with not evolving into his form of choice. During a winter event, he had an encounter with a mysterious lucario that nearly killed him. This somehow caused his trevenant genes from his father to kick in and grow wood-like armor on his body.

Skipper the Electivire

Experimented on as an electabuzz in an attempt to create a shadow pokemon immune to purification, poor Skipper lacks the ability to facially or vocally emote unless in his ‘Shadow Mode’, resulting in a permanent ‘resting bitch face’ and calm tone of voice. To hide the former, he let his fur grow out to hide his facial features.

In ‘Shadow Mode’, Skipper reverts into being a Shadow Pokemon for a great boost in speed and power at the cost of his stamina, like an amped up Life Orb. Needless to say, he avoids entering this state unless it is needed.

Katsuya Urakawa

Known more commonly as ‘Kats’, he is a veteran trainer hailing from Azelea Town whom has the mysterious ‘Power of Bonds’. In the past, he was the champion of the Johto region, but quickly ‘retired’ to travel the world. When not traveling, he has a large plot of land in western Johto called ‘Lucky Kats Ranch’, where all his pokemon live so they’re not all stored in a PC.

Due to an incident during his initial gym challenge, he has a very strong dislike for Lance.

Also comes in typhlosion flavor for ‘no-humans’ poke blogs.

Molly the Granbull

An oddly-colored granbull who seems to specialize in fire-type attacks. Formerly a champion fighter, she currently enjoys a ‘quiet’ life as a mother and home-maker at the ranch. She usually keeps a serene smile, but can and will flip back into a fighter to intimidate others, particularly when the safety of young pokemon is at stake.

Nike the Victini

Hailing from Unova, Nike is the self-declared Goddess of Victory. Technically not one of Kats’ pokemon, she caught herself in one of his pokeballs to escape from particularly nasty humans who sought to use her power for personal gain. With her being ‘caught’, she freely flits around the world without worry of getting captured.

Stitch the Banette

Stitch is a strangely passive banette who doesn’t seem particularly full of spite or cursed energy. He enjoys making different ‘skins’ for him to switch between for different occasions.

Jaws the Feraligatr

Kats’ starter pokemon, Jaws is surprisingly massive. Years ago when Kats became champion, he was a more normal size, however he simply continued growing. Due to this, he doesn’t like being on land too much as he is just incredibly heavy.

Amaku the Primeape

A mysterious primeape variant who originally lived near Mt Mortar. He seems strangely calm, and his eyes always appear to glow with murderous intent, regardless of his actual intent.

Sunny the Raichu

The first pokemon Kats to join Kats outside of Johto, and his usual travel partner when visiting new regions as they tend to allow pikachu evolutions to enter, regardless of whether they are native or not. Much like her name suggest, she’s a very cheerful individual who always looks to the positive side of things. She also takes great pride in her soft fur.

Ace the Absol (needs art update)

A blind absol who was Kats’ pet before becoming a trainer, having been found half-drowned in the Slowpoke Well before the trainer even began his journey, and joined the team when Kats came to claim the Hive Badge.

He is calm a calm strategist with sharpened hearing and smell to make up for his lack of sight.

Dandan the Ludicolo (needs art update)

A ludicolo with traits from his golduck father. He is always full of energy and dancing, and is a bit of a glutton as well.

Munchkin the Bewear

A bewear with a high-pitched voice and an artistic streak, befitting of him being part smeargle. While he is decent enough as a fighter, he vastly prefers carving wood and stone or shaping clay. Whether or not he can actually use Sketch is currently unknown.

Franky the Snubbull

Molly’s oldest daughter and a spitting image of her mother when she was younger. She’s still losing her baby teeth to grow her adult teeth in. She’s loud, boistrous, and enjoys playing with the other young pokemon on the ranch.

Spike the Jolteon

A jolteon that is the result of a crossbreeding attempt with boltund. When he evolved from an eevee, his yamper traits didn’t properly evolve with him, resulting in his stumpy figure, and the breeder he belonged to releasing him into the wild, where he met Kats.

‘Excalibur’ Arceus/Cal the teddiursa

The recently-reincarnated Arceus of this universe, referring to themself as ‘Excalibur’ when visiting other universes to converse with others of their species. They are pretty much a little kid with vast amounts of knowledge. The reason behind their small, humanoid figure is unknown.

When going ‘incognito’, they take the form of a teddiursa called ‘Cal’, appearing normal aside from the heterochromia and white cane and top hat to the normal passerby. To those more sensitive to the supernatural (moreso than the pokemon world tends to be), they appear with their true colors.

What is one thing that you took to show and tell as a kid? I have this oddly specific memory of bringing my little Snorlax plushie for one in pre-k. I remember thinking everyone thought I was weird for liking Pokemon as a girl. Do you remember losing your first tooth? I don't. Have you ever been addicted to a game? What game? I think I was addicted to World of Warcraft at a point, but it's honestly hard to tell. My depression was just so abysmal that it was the one thing I got even a smidge of not even joy, but active distraction out of because the options of what you can do in the game are essentially limitless. Are you afraid to pop a balloon? Not really, but it does make me jump because I don't like loud noises. Name one person you’d like to see this month. Bitch we fighting Covid, stay away from me. When was the last time you laughed when you shouldn’t have? I don’t know. Which was better: the first The Lion King or the second? They're nearly tied, honestly, but I prefer the original. Do any of your grandparents have a tattoo? I KNOW my maternal grandmother didn't, and I don't believe any other grandparent did, either. When was the last time you had a bubble bath? Not since I was a kid. What do you usually buy when you go to the corner store? You mean like, a gas station or dollar store? Something small like that? In that case, I'll usually look for a Mountain Dew Voltage sometimes along with something Reese's-related. Do you believe that your pets feel love towards you? My cat, absofuckinglutely. He so obviously loves me. I know my snake doesn't though, considering reptilian brains just physically aren't capable of creating that emotion. She does, however, obviously trust me and definitely seems to enjoy coming out of her terrarium and thus hanging out by me. Bubbles or sidewalk chalk? I loved drawing with chalk, but I like bubbles more. I just love how they catch light and have such beautiful colors to share. What do you use to tell time when your gone out somewhere? My phone. Are you proud of your body? FUCK no. I wish I still was, goddammit. I used to be so fit, and it's funny, because even back then at like, 118 lbs at 5'4'', I thought I was kinda chubby. Like bitch shut the fuck up. Watermelon or cherries? I honestly don't like either, but I'll definitely pick watermelon over cherries. They're disgusting. What is your all-time favourite song? "False Flags" by Massive Attack. Have you ever had a crush on a fictional character? Biiiiiitch guess lmao. I think everyone has, though. What is the band you’ve listened to most lately? I literally can't. It's embarrassing. Have you ever been rushed to the hospital in an ambulance? No. What is one thing you’d never want your parents to find out? Certain sexual things I've done, probably. When you were little, did you like Dr. Suess books? Of course. Have you ever felt trapped in a relationship? I felt that way in my friendship with Colleen, but no romantic relationships. What would you consider unforgivable? Rape. Like no, go to hell. Do you like eating out at restaurants? Pre-Covid, yeah. What do you dislike the most about being the gender that you are? Probably how heavily judged women are for having ANYTHING "wrong" with their appearance. You could be five pounds over what is "normal" for your height and you're seen as fat. One strand of body hair, and you're disgusting. Bushy eyebrows, you're now manly. I could go on and on. Do you think that weed/marijuana should be legalized? Yes. Rate your typing speed on a scale from 1 - 10? 10. Do you enjoy tanning? Ugh, no. Just sitting there doing nothing but sweating. Have you ever written anybody an anonymous note? I have not. What is your favorite condiment to go with french fries? Ketchup. Have you ever laid in a hammock? Yeah; we used to have one. It was the best when we lived in the woods. Do you blow dry your hair or do you let it air out? I just let it air dry. Candles or incense? I prefer incense. Can you juggle? No. Your favorite vegetable? Broccoli. Do you catch lizards? No; I don't like terrifying wildlife. I'd much rather just take pictures of the little guys and let them go about their business. If we returned to a world without internet, what aspect of online life would you miss the most? YouTube, haha. It's more unique and personal entertainment than television, imo. Are you craving anything aside from food, and if so, what? I want a new piercinggggg. What was the last change you made to your lifestyle? I'm *trying* to get back into regularly making art, along with reading. I'm also really trying to implement drinking more water into my day. What was the last thing you gave up doing? *shrug* What was the last thing to boost your self-esteem? What sort of things typically make you feel good about yourself? It really, really helped to hear my PHP group enjoy my poem about gay rights so much. I was so terrified and did NOT want my therapist to share it, but it turned out being very beneficial. To answer the second question, it's pretty much stuff like I just mentioned: positive reactions to things I create. When it comes to food, do you prefer crunchy or softer textures? Definitely softer. Do you prefer savory or sweet things for breakfast? Hm. Depends on the day, ig. What is something small that you take extremely personally? I'm blanking. What was going on the last time you couldn’t sleep? I just... couldn't sleep. That's not rare for me. Have you drawn anything recently? I recently drew a picture of a still from Rammstein's "Mutter" music video, and I'm now working on Sara's 'kat Alucard. If you're going somewhere close by, do you walk? No. One simply does not walk in this town and not fear being shot. Do you prefer colorful notebooks over plain ones? I like colorful ones, particularly those with a nice pattern or something on it. What's your most ambitious goal? I'd consider wanting to be a successful freelance photographer to be rather ambitious. Do you know anyone named Alex? Well, knew, by this point. One of my closest online friends that just got a boyfriend and fell off the face of the planet when we used to talk every day. I'm still hurt about it, honestly. What's your favorite kind of pie? I don't like pie because of the crust being so, well... crusty and crumbly. Have you ever chatted someone up and scored a date? No. How far would you go with someone you just met? Not very far at all. All you're getting is a hug, if even that. What's your favorite meal to have for dinner? I mean, it depends on what I feel like having. I don't have a set favorite meal. What do you daydream about? The future, mostly. People I miss. Have you ever known someone online and then met them in person? If so, which website did you meet on? Yes, Sara. <3 We met via YouTube back when it had much more social connection. Have you ever been to the beach? Yeah, a good number of times. When was the last time you were sick and what illness did you have? I don't believe I've been ill in any sort of way since I had that ungodly ear infection a few years ago. Have you ever been kicked out of somewhere? Yeah, Colleen's house. Mom once tried kicking me out of the car one night otw home, but I didn't listen. Have you ever intentionally trolled? No. How many siblings do your parents have? Mom has two brothers and I think one sister, and Dad has one sister. Who last held your hand? My niece or nephew, dragging me somewhere, haha. Have you seen all the Lord of the Rings movies? No, not interested. What was the last thing you watched on YouTube? I'm watching John Wolfe's playthrough of Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs. It's so funny how like... every let's player I watch doesn't enjoy the game, like they miss the incredible symbolism and shy away from the advanced language, and sometimes it's just frustrating to watch them; I only do because I enjoy the game and want to see more people experience it and relive it vicariously. It's very high on my list of favorite games. What sport do you find yourself best at? I wouldn't know; I haven't played any sports in years. I was pretty good at softball as a kid, though. Do you think makeup on guys is freaky or sexy? My opinion shouldn't matter; a man can wear makeup whenever he damn well pleases without worrying what others think. But anyway, I tend to find it attractive, especially if it's goth makeup. Have you ever been accused of a crime you did not commit? No. Do you like pickles? I love dill pickles. What was the craziest moment of your life? Probably just lying in that hospital bed following my OD, my mom and two best friends just sitting there with me. It was such a weird, weird feeling. Like I was just so done, frustrated beyond what I can say. I remember thinking it was almost funny, just how it all built up and went wrong. Where do you spend most of your time? In my room on my bed. What is your favorite muffin? Chocolate chip. Would you ever get a boob job? I already know when/if I lose the weight I want to, it will be kind of a big deal to me and my atrocious body image to get a breast lift. Being overweight ~does things~ you know, and god knows I want every trace of it that can be erased gone. Would you ever go on a reality TV dating show? That's a massive "no" from me, buddy. Would you rather be inside or outside? It depends on where I am and the temperature outside, but generally, inside. Do you like the current president? Well, I voted for him, so I can't shit-talk much. I don't know the true depths of him as a person and all he stands for, though; when I decided I needed to vote, I just did some research on his core values. I don't have any complaints yet, from what I've seen at least, which isn't a lot. Do you whiten your teeth? I've used whitening strips before, but I don't now because they're not that effective. If it's financially plausible at some point in my life, teeth whitening is another thing I want to have medically done because of my previous horrible self-care. My teeth have a clear yellow tint and I hate it. Do you get cold easily? No; it's actually the opposite: I get hot easily. What was the worst sickness you ever had? Probably this one stomach bug I had where I just threw up relentlessly. Like eventually barely even bile would come up; it was just dry heaving. My stomach muscles were in agony. Was your childhood wasted by something? No, thankfully. Would you rather die during an adventure or die like a normal person? A normal person. The idea of having such a sudden death stresses me out for multiple reasons; I mostly don't want my family to just be suddenly devastated, and I honestly want to come to peace with the fact I was dying. Like, find my life's own closure instead of just having it ripped away. Have your parents ever tried to commit suicide? Jesus, I sure hope not. Do you have a gag reflex? A very strong one. Do you ever fantasize about trying drugs? I've wondered before what the effects of weed would be like for me, but "fantasize" is definitely the wrong word. Would you rather have sex before you’re married or wait till marriage? It'd be up to my partner, honestly, because I'm fine with either. What is the nastiest dare you have ever committed? I never did dares because I thought they were stupid. Like I'm not gonna do dumb shit just to show you I can. Do you know anyone who has been raped? I think I might? Have you ever asked someone for a tampon? Yeah. Do you have any exes you can’t stand anymore? No. Are you more of a phone or a computer person? Computer. Do you prefer headphones or earbuds? Earbuds. Headphones are just big and clunky and in the way when you use a laptop in bed, plus they irritate my skin. I like how earbuds actually go in your ears for more direct hearing. Would you ever consider adopting a child with a severe mental illness? If I wanted children, no, because I don't think I'm capable to give a child like that adequate care, being so mentally ill myself. I wouldn't want to risk worsening their condition. Favorite thing to do with a significant other? Play games together, particularly cute multiplayer ones that are more about the experience of playing together versus getting past difficult obstacles and such. Like for example, one of my favorite memories with Jason is simply playing Little Big Planet together. Favorite ice cream topping? I don't like many toppings on my ice cream, but I do love melted hot fudge. First boyfriend/girlfriend’s name? Aaron. Do you support PETA? Considering they are incredibly self-righteous extremists, no. Do you believe in the Big Bang Theory? Well, I believe in some sort of "god" figure that created the universe, so I don't think so. A condensed ball of nothing exploding to create something so extravagant? It sounds pretty far-fetched to me. But then again, maybe that semblance of a "god" I believe in created the universe through that, idk. It doesn't really matter now, though, does it. What happened happened, I'm not very concerned with it. What insect can you not stand the site of? It's more so larvae that I can't stand the sight of, like maggots and stuff. They make me squirm. Do you like Doctor Who? I've only seen one or two episodes, so I can't say. Do you approve of gay marriage? Of course I do. I'm bisexual and would like to get married, so I might marry a woman. Are you into politics? I'm really not. Do you think the world is ending soon? Nah, even though it sure does feel like it sometimes. Ever been to a mosh pit? No, they don't seem very fun at all. Do you like to debate? NO. NO NO NO. Do you like the band System of a Down? Yeah, I do. Are you German? It's a big part of my heritage. Do your parents like your best friend? Yes. Who’s someone you can act your complete self around? Sara, 100%. She's the only person I feel entirely comfortable around when it comes to being myself. Do you believe in Friday the 13th? I don't believe in there being any supernatural power to it, no. Who is your favorite rapper? Eminem. What age is your youngest aunt? Uhhhh I have no idea. Do you like bowling? Sure, it's fun. Do you like roasting marshmallows on a bonfire? I do. What shows or characters scared you as a child? Ghostface from the Scream series was my worst fucking nightmare. I couldn't even see pictures of him without crying. The King Ramses guy from Courage the Cowardly Dog also gave me a number of nightmares. Something about the way he was animated was very unnatural and unnerving to me.

writing commissions! (+more)

hey y’all, my name is Kat, i’m a 19 year old nb college student and I am opening writing commissions, plus a few other things!

Why am I opening commissions? As of 6/20/2019, I have $0.00 in my bank account. I just bought a car so I can get from my home and my college, so now I have gas money/car payments/insurance to pay for. I also have to pay a monthly fee of $76 of my student loans, and buy my textbooks, and be able to eat sometimes. And I have mobility issues and other health problems that I’m trying to take care of. Y’know, fun stuff.

Fanfic commissions will be $2 a page for 5 pages, with an additional $1 per page if it’s 6+ pages. So a 5 page fic will be $10, a 6 page fic will be $13. examples of my fanfic writing can be found here.

Original fiction commissions will be $3 a page for 5 pages, with the same additional $1 per page the longer it gets. DM me for examples of my original writing.

I also will beta read your fics/original content/academic papers at $1 a page!

I will also do dramaturgical analysis and a scenic design of any play you wish. Those will be a minimum of $15, as my art supplies are kinda expensive and a good design takes a while. My design portfolio can be found here.

Be More Chill, Voltron, The Umbrella Academy, most musicals, Spiderman +other Marvel characters. If there is something you want me to write not on this list, just ask and I’ll see what I can do.

Incest, pedophilia, extremely nsfw pieces. I have the right to refuse any commission that makes me uncomfortable.

I will write most ships, gen content, angst/fluff/pretty much anything. For original content, I just ask that you send me as much information about your characters/world/whatever you want me to write about and be able to answer any questions I have.

For my design commissions, I just ask that you send me a play + possibly a thematic idea you have. If you want me to do Cabaret with a focus on fascism vs a focus on sex worker culture, you’ll get two different designs. If you want to use the design for an actual show as opposed to just have the deign for personal reasons, it will cost more.

500 EFFING FOLLOWERS

WHOAAAAAAAAAAAAA THERE. You absolute ROCKSTARS have made my life. 500? As in, half of 1000? What?! No way. It’s too good to be true. When I started this blog in June, I had no idea what it would become, or who I would meet from creating it. It was just a side place where I could post things that reminded me of London, things such as bats, vampires, rock n’ roll, skulls, horror, ghosts, pumpkins, leather outfits, and sometimes, even writing (nah).

Over time, it has become my favorite hang out spot. My afternoon café. A place where I could make great friends, meet greats artists, and do great things. Tumblr has given me an outlet to which I can express my creativity again, and I couldn’t do that without you guys. From the bottom of my heart, THANK YOU. w a y h a u g h t ⚜️ “kiss me under the moonlight...” I don’t feel like I’ve done Wayhaught proper justice like my Hollstein pieces in a very very long time, I hoped to change that with this piece and as such spent the entire bank holiday weekend working on it (3 days, 102 individual layers!!) how much do you love Waverly’s flower crown? 👑🌸 that was an added extra in the last couple of hours on Monday before completion but I think it makes the piece ten times more romantic. Uhm... who would like this as a Wayhaught wedding scene... Emily.. please?! Maybe you can answer this for me and I'm going to preface it by saying I have no qualms with Kennett. Anyways can you explain to me what Kol did on TVD (I don't watch TO) that was so significant to have him shipped with Bonnie in a way that would boost her character because this was a ship well before TO. I legit barely remember him, he was obnoxious (his characterization) and kinda threatening, but beyond that I draw a complete blank on him. Was he very charismatic or something?

I think tbh with you anon that we all just wanted a decent love interest for Bonnie. Bonnie and Kol had several admittedly small moments but viewers felt that between them even in them they had a lot of chemistry.

Even if you watch Nate and Kat at a panel there’s mad chemistry there same with Kat and Chris/Kai and Bonnie.

There’s also an attraction because while both Kai and Kol are dangerous Bonnie was able to overpower and out smart them both twice. Which is nice because Bonnie gets to be powerful and have agency in a scene not just be subservient to others.

Kol has not only spent his while life studying and working with witches he has a deep respect for them (partly because he used to be one as a child.)

Kol had been good friends with witches throughout the centuries, stating how he respects them and holds them in high esteem. This stems from his love of being a witch before becoming a vampire. His interest in witchcraft and magic continued even as an Original and not being able to use it directly anymore.

Having studied witchcraft with witches for centuries, Kol is quite knowledgeable in the arts of witchcraft and magic, even creating his own spells such as the spell he taught Freya in An Old Friend Calls.

During the time he spent with witches in Africa in the 14th Century, Kol traveled in Uganda and gained a knowledge of medicinal herbs and remedies from a shaman.

Kol’s time with witches led to his fear of Silas, as the witches often told stories that Silas would return and bring the end of days.

In his travels, Kol learned of a magic called Kemiya, which he taught to witches so that they could create his dark objects for him, which allowed him to utilize magic as a vampire. He later teaches this to Davina and practices it himself when he possesses Kaleb.

The dark objects Kol was shown to be responsible for creating with his witches included The Devil’s Starand the bracelet Davina used to make Mikael obedient to her. He had the witches create them so that he could use magic through the objects without being a witch himself, as they were designed so that anyone could wield them.

Elijah admitted that Kol was a master of his craft, despite his mischief.

Davina once told him he had a “freaky witch encyclopedia brain” because of his vast knowledge.

Most of his dark objects have since fallen into the possession of the O'Connell family.

However, he often displays his vampire visage on The Originals due to the ancestors cursing him through the spell Davina used to bring him back, making him lose control.

Taking this into consideration Kennett could have been a really fulfilling relationship for Bonnie because being with Kol could have developed her as a person pls iit would have been interesting and endearing to watch.

As for Kol, he was very charismatic. There’s just so much to say about him.

But here’s my own personal one:

He’s kind of the perfect juxtaposition of being one of the most levels headed and rational/pragmatic Mikaelson and also being the most chaotic and volatile and it’s really interesting to watch

Nate Buzz is an excellent actor

He has a very childlike playfulness to him as well as a dangerous edge

He’s consistently the one to call Klaus out while the rest of his siblings seem to be completely devoted to him (Rebekah and Elijah and Freya slightly although she’s more neutral) or completely hate him (Finn) Kol simply say what he doesn’t like and says it. He consistently challenges Klaus (verbally or physically )

and although Klaus has daggered him many times it’s clear he’s not afraid of him. In fact, it does seem like Klaus has a healthy fear of Kol in some ways because he’s so unpredictable

He also wasn’t afraid to tease Klaus.

Kol is funny like he has some good one liners and he’s very quick to make light of situations even when they’re very bleak or sinister

He’s anti-Damon AF

Live Gig Review: Gerry Gibbs and Thrasher People “Our People” record release party, 10/18/19 at Nublu, NYC

Gerry Gibbs: drums, percussion, vocals, keyboards; Alex Collins: Fender Rhodes, Mini Moog, and vocals; Chien Chien Lu: vibraphone, glockenspiel and vocals; Jean-Baptiste-Bocle: vibraphone, Mallet Kat, organ, percussion and vocals, Jeff Lederer: alto saxophone, bass clarinet, vocals and synthesizer; Marlon Martinez: acoustic and electric basses, vocals; Kyeshie Gibbs: vocals and percussion; Debbie Major: vocals, electronic vocals and percussion. With special guest Ravi Coltrane: sopranino, soprano and tenor saxophones.

A record release party is different from any other premiere gig. The artist is often surrounded by close associates and friends, the venue whether it be a well known club or other space; the atmosphere just feels different, more electric. The music is super fresh, the ideas of new possibilities inside the music is truly in the realm of the unknown. At Nublu in Manhattan on October 18, 2019, Multi instrumentalist Gerry Gibbs and his nine piece Thrasher People was a force, debuting for the first time live, the music of Our People (Whaling City Sound) released in June. Our People is truly Gibbs' most ambitious album to date, his twelfth as a leader (fourteen, if you count that two of his albums are double discs). It is epic music that defies category on the scale of recordings like Yes' Tales From Topographic Oceans, Return To Forever's Romantic Warrior, Eberhard Weber's The FollowingMorning, the Pat Metheny Group's swansong The Way Up or Antonio Sanchez's The Meridian Suite and Lines In The Sand. Live, the incredibly challenging yet completely satisfying music mirrored it's recorded counterpart with precise execution, but expanded greatly as the best jazz does live. This was largely because of a sterling ensemble including Alex Collins on Fender Rhodes, Mini Moog, and vocals, Chien Chien Lu on vibraphone, glockenspiel and vocals, Jean-Baptiste-Bocle on vibraphone, Mallet Kat, organ, percussion and vocals, Jeff Lederer on alto saxophone, bass clarinet, vocals and synthesizer, Marlon Martinez on acoustic and electric basses, vocals and rounded out by Kyeshie Gibbs on vocals and percussion, and Debbie Major on vocals, electronic vocals and percussion with special guest Ravi Coltrane on sopranino, soprano and tenor saxophones.

The album's production was a very involved process with 5 musicians playing over 40 instruments and vocals being overdubbed some 20 times, so the fact the music was performed live in real time without sequencers was incredibly impressive. The opening “Scene 18” lost none of it's power as Gibbs whipped a marshal beat . The music, modeled after the feeling of a huge budget film, such as Ben Hur was nothing short of majestic, the nonet sounding like something much larger. “The Streets” was like something out of a blaxploitation film, Bocle and Collins really digging into their solos. Collins was particularly humorous because of his many permutations of The Lick used as a running motif. If anyone had a drink in hand, it could make a fun, and goofy drinking game. Chien Chien Lu's vibe solo on the second section was full of ripe ideas.

There were three players in particular, though the whole ensemble was wonderful, that shone above the rest: Alex Collins, Chien Chien Lu, and recent LA to NY transplant, bassist Marlon Martinez. The affable Gibbs stated that he didn't want to kill the mood with “such a morbid title” but introduced “Boys Sent To Die” as being inspired by the young men who died in the senseless Vietnam war, a sobering reminder of how pointless war really is. A long bass improvisation segued into the composition. Martinez was the star student of Stanley Clarke, and upon the bass innovator’s suggestion, Gibbs checked him out. Martinez's solo began with percussive slaps on the acoustic bass body. and some ringing harmonics. From there he dove into a wide array of melodic explorations as well as some dazzling work high on the fingerboard, that while having Clarkian echoes, showed a player that will be a major name to watch.

The Taiwan born but now NYC based Lu has played with a variety of groups, both jazz and classical, and is now a member of Jeremy Pelt's quintet. Fluidity is a word that comes to mind when thinking of her bright and bold ideas. The duet she had with Jean-Baptiste Bocle was marvelous, the two bounced ideas off each other as if the two vibraphones were one, Lu's mallets traipsing down the metal bars in bluesy rhapsody. When it came time for the group to run down the self explanatory, Mozart flavored, “Chick Corea”, it received a strong adrenalin boost from a double timed samba not present on the record, with an energized Mallet Kat solo, from Bocle, shades of Mike Mainieri's MIDI'd vibes in Steps Ahead. Gibbs' drum solo was a mix of melodic motifs and barrages of 16th and 32nd tom fills with the power of Billy Cobham and speed of the late Alphonse Mouzon.

Ravi Coltrane was the evening's special guest, and the long drone of sampled sitars was the perfect cushion for his vocal, yearning sopranino saxophone, before switching to tenor on the cheeky “Oh Yeah”. “Oh Yeah” has a self aware humor that reflects Our People's wide range of influences from 70's spiritual jazz, Donald Byrd albums like A New Perspective, I'm Tryin' To Get Home, prog rock, film, and easy listening (!). The piece, with it's hypersonic swing made it especially endearing. The “Dance Of The Freedom People”, an ode to the Art Ensemble of Chicago had a thrilling alto and tenor duel between Coltrane and Lederer and was prefaced by a side splitting Gibbs story in which he, Lederer and several others were decked out like the AEOC in a performance that ended with the cops being called and a bird pooping on Gibbs' head. Debbie Major had a wonderful feature on an arrangement of Stevie Wonder's “Overjoyed” and “Living For the City” originally featured on We're Back with Kenny Barron and Ron Carter. Coltrane's lyrical soprano complimented her soulful, R&B delivery. The evening closed with “The Final Message”, with a Gibbs beatbox solo that'd even make Rahzel blush and an audience singalong on “Friends Before We Were Friends: Part 2.”

Gerry Gibbs and the Thrasher People exhibited a breathtaking display of instrumental and compositional prowess. In the streaming era with it's pick and choose mentality, the notion of an album, more so then ever before, is a cultural rarity. With music so complex, it was truly amazing to see it performed so effortlessly, especially on a first night. If this music is taken on the road, it will provide an earthy, cerebral, uplifting mix that will stick in the minds of all that hear it. It is important to remember to approach it with an open mind, with no conception of genre or expectation it is some kind of “world music” informed by the multicultural makeup of the band. It is Gibbs being inspired by the friends he's made all over the world, and like multi instrumentalist Stephan Micus, brings an idiosyncratic approach to music that is thoroughly enjoyable, and the Our People album itself is one of the best releases of the year. As the title says I bought some new emperor tetras that died within 30 hours of purchasing.
