This person was apparently born at night, and it was last night, to be exact. So happy birthday, random anti!

Anyway, this shallow narrow minded view is very common amongst the antis because well, they have to have something to complain about at all times. Look, I get it, you don't want to seem like a hypocrite about self-inserting. We all know you do it just like the rest of us readers and writers. The only problem is they don't have the balls enough to admit it.

Yeah, that's right, we self-insert.

But it's not because we have this sexual fantasy we want to fulfill with Zuko through Katara. Look, I'm not here to judge because I also have sexual fantasies that I self-insert into characters to achieve (though mine is with Dante from Devil May Cry and I read a lot of reader x Dante fics for that). It's part of escapism.

But no, it's not because of sexual fantasies. It's about a lot of things other than that. Some of those things are emotional or physical trauma that the reader/writer is trying to get through. Especially if it's emotional trauma like emotional abuse and neglect. That's some serious shit that antis apparently don't understand because they are themselves guilty of dealing out that abuse to others (over a ship... like come on people, be serious). And no, shared trauma isn't a problem in a relationship, especially when that trauma has been dealt with from both parties. That's a horrible excuse to say that a relationship is going to be 'toxic'. If anything, moving forward through trauma can help a person grow. Zuko and Katar dealing with their trauma actually made them friends, so I don't see that being an argument against.

As far as Katara making her own choices...

Honey, sweetheart, darling...

She's a fictional character. Her choices were made for her by the people who created her. This is the same thing as using the fortune teller to have her self-fulfilling the fortune given to her. Most of us Zutara writers actually hate that Katara's choices were limited to that prophecy, so that's the one bit of Canon that can actually be detrimental to her character. But yeah, you just ignore that for the sake of your argument.

You'll find that Zutarians actually give Katara a lot more 'choices', considering how she is treated post-war, so yeah. But again, she is a fictional character. Her choices are pre-ordained by her creators. That's kinda how characters and storytelling work.

But we aren't anti Katara around here. If we were, then Zutara wouldn't exist. When it comes to self-inserting, we could easily create a character to ship Zuko with to fulfill that emotional need, but we love Katara.

Even though we can also easily self-insert into both characters.

So, yeah, I don't know where these obsurd arguments come from other than cowardice and the moral high ground that the antis claim to have.

ohhh man this is a tough one. favoured Fantasy Weapon for me kinda depends on context… i love to be contrarian so in a game thats primarily melee i wanna do ranged and vice versa, for instance. in a game thats all swords, if theres One axe or mace or an option to use fists, thats the one im attracted to.

if i free myself from the chains of Context… ok i think im gonna have a REALLY hard time picking three so im just gonna list some weapons/tools used in fantasy stuff that i think are cool (not strictly Fantasy Weapons because some of this shit is real But Not How THEY Use It!)

shields: not a weapon but so cool. i love shields. you can use them to attack if you want and there's so many styles.

chakram: i didn't really think much about these until playing dancer in ffxiv and now i'm really chakram pilled. also if you play the xena: warrior princess game for psx you can throw a flying chakram that you then directly control in near-first-person and explore the entire level using it. which i think i would be able to do also

staves: magic ones. not a boring bo staff. but also i want to use it like a bo staff & not just as a Spell Focus. fact: i was really excited for palutena in smash 4 because the idea of a staff+shield moveset was REALLY exciting to me but she barely swings the staff around at all… wasteful!

maces, flails: i'm a cleric at heart so i always feel warmed to see one of these guys. it's unfair to bundle these together because they're vastly different technique wise but whatever

kanabo: this is like, a little bit from column Staff, a little bit from column Mace. (ok you dont use a staff like youd use one of these but maybe i would.) its like a giant baseball bat from demon's hell. awesome toy

katars: these are more of a childhood fav but my very first 2nd class in ragnarok online was Assassin because i was obsessed with those cool hand blades. when i was a kid i asked for a katar (real) for my birthday and got one. & it sucked ass

pickaxe: just a cool shape

Just Throwing Shit: im always enchanted by this option when it's present. i love the idea of specializing in just Throwing stuff. Any stuff. the little bouncy hammer you can throw around in destiny 2 as a solar titan is a favorite example of this but many rpgs have "thrown weapon" specializations that dont necessarily correspond to any one weapon Shape. its awesome.

bows: i think they are cool. not much else to say

OK and if i fell into a dive to the heart and i had like a whole armory waiting for me ummmmmm i would… probably pick Staff and sacrifice Sword. this Literally matches what i did in my kh playthru stream which makes it sound kind of boring but, whatever! if magic exists im gonna wanna use it!!! if it doesnt im still gonna have a cool long stick!!!! cant lose!!! actually though if magic DOESNT exist i want a kanabo or chakrams. Honourable Mention: in ultima online there's a weapon called "Hammer Pick" thats like a normal claw hammer with an inordinately long handle. i always thought this was cool. food for thought

Rilun is the only one we've found a proper voice claim for - I like to think Michaela Dietz as Amethyst (SU) fits her well! (And there is a 🪞 certain someone adjacent to her whose voice claim is Awkwafina yes i know i'm sorry but it actually fits her i swear)

But if you'd prefer something cutesy, Rilun and Geo also fit well with Fololo and Falala's English dub voices respectively!

Tough question, as technically most of them use magic as their "weapon" of choice... If I had to choose, I'd say Rilun would be partial to katars; Cadenza has his magic wand, which kinda counts; and Geo is normally very much a pacifist, but there was a recent... incident... which pushed them to use their fists.

Cory would take up a parasol if ABSOLUTELY necessary... probably; I can see Vivo utilizing potions and poisons to her benefit; and Fecto Lythra can control plants and vines to do her bidding.

So I’ve been think of of Azula and Katara getting back together (permanently this time!) and their relationship sex. I can see neither eating to really be the stereotypical dom or otherwise that night/

Well, I can totally see Azutara re-enacting the more tantalizing parts of the scene on cruise. And quickly realizing it was one of their favorite couples activity’s 😉😉😉😉 together.

First of all never be sorry for being horny for Azula & Katara in my inbox or for drinking & sending asks about it there are few activities that I support more in this world ☺️

Second of all I totally agree neither would be super eager to dom or sub specifically I think that first night on the cruise they mostly just have soft romantic sex & celebrate how happy they are to be together at first, I don’t see them immediately getting too kinky that first night back together 💜

But after that I can definitely see them playing around & switching roles sometimes! It’s pretty thoroughly canon in the Happenstance verse that Azula is typically more of a sub buuut I will say not always & I certainly think Katara wouldn’t always want to be a dom so they’d def switch it up & get fun with it 😉

Exclusive bonus just for you: Some fans of Zucest (my absolute OTP in any media ever), especially back in the days when the show was still airing, were REALLY fond of slandering Mai nearly as much as Zutara fans do. I watched the first episode while waiting for my plane and here are my thoughts.

Lets start with the changes that were made.

I dont like that Gyatso gets to tell Aang that he is the Avatar, I dont like that they changed the reason he ran away. I dont like how soon it happened after he left. I dont like the entry sequence with the earthbender spy (tho it just made me realize how terrifying firebenders are) I also dont like that they didnt let Sokka be misogynistic. I dont like that Katara is given nothing to do when she was such an active participent in the first episode of the show. I dont like that it wasnt Katara that calmed Aang down from his Avatar state

As for the acting... it's fine, some of the delivery feels really flat, most witty funny dialog I liked from the og seems to be removed and over all the way the dialog is written is not amazing. It staggers a little. But thats on writing and acting.

So far I liked Gyatso, Iroh, Zuko and Sokka

Aang is a major improvement from the forbiden movie that shall not be named. But the changes in the story is already affecting his character.

I dont like that they explained everything in the first episode. And also Sozin's commet bending didn't feel strong? Like I was expecting waves of fire and Airbenders not even being able to put up a fight but honestly they were on par which feels weird because that was supposed to be the strongest the firebenders are.

I do love the bending in general tho, I dont want to compare it to the movie that shall not be named but its so good compared to that.

Im just manifesting more moments for my girl Katar because rn she feels like she is directly looking at the camera telling me things and doing nothing. Honestly the amount of dead on camera stare monologues are kinda funny and I wouldn't even bet an eye if it was animation but in live action it feels weird? I didnt love that.

Above all so far the scenery I've seen really feels like the world of Avatar. Which is really refreshing. I liked that.

I still feel like the show takes advantage of us knowing everything about the plot the characters and the world and tries to get away with telling and not showing.

I’ve got a Zucest/Kacest idea I wanted to run by ya.

Say during a battle in the chase Azula, Zuko, Katara, and Sokka are battling while Aang is fighting Mai and Ty Lee. The 4 suddenly fight near a cave. In this cave they accidentally disturb a spirit. The spirit pissed off to all hell sends them into the spirit world.

So now, the Fire/Water siblings have to go on life changing adventure while working together to escape the spirit world and get back home.

Over the course of the story we find that Azula is jealous of Zuko and Mai’s relationship. Katara is jealous of Sokka and Suki’s/Yue’s relationship. Neither master bender quite understand their feelings. This a journey of realization and giving into desires.

Various spirits play tricks and pranks on Katara and Azula to get them to 1 realize their feelings and 2 accept them. Both Zuko and Sokka remain complete oblivious to Azula and Katara’s feelings though.

The 4 also find moon spirit Yue while wondering the spirit world. As a powerful spirt Yue is able to exist simultaneously in both the world and spirit world. As a fish and a spirit. Her presence reignites Katara’s jealousy. Yue points the quartet words a portal that can take the 4 of them home. The Fire/Water 4 decide to stay for the night.

Yue talks to Sokka and Zuko on the night. In her talk with Sokka she tells him he needs to “move on from her” and go after where his head truly lies. Yue gets Sokka to realize and accept his feelings for Katara.

Yue also talks about the siege of the north with Zuko. The conversation is a heavy one, it leads to Zuko apologizing for his involvement during the siege. Specifically about how his insolvent led to Yue’s death/apotheosis. Yue forgives Zuko after this.

After the difficult conversation, Yue decides to plow right into another difficult conversation. Yue prefaces by telling Zuko that she is the manifestation of the moon. So she knows what drives mortals. She can look down into their hearts and perceive their truths. With that out of the way, Yue confront Zuko about his feelings for Azula directly.

Zuko of course sputters a denial that was conning to no one. Least of all to him and to the omniscient moon spirit. Like with Sokka about Katara, she convinces Zuko to accept his feelings for Azula.

After this, Sokka and Zuko bond over their respective feelings for Katara and Azula.

Azula and Katara also stay up late at night and converse. The conversation is hostile in places and friendly in others. Until Azula accidentally slips up and reveals her feelings for Zuko. In a bout of compassion Katara tells Azula about her own feelings for Sokka. The two commiserate on their seemingly “unrequited” feelings for their idiot older brothers. It ends with Azula and Katara agreeing to make a move for better or worse before leaving the spirit world.

So Azula and Katara become friends. kinda. Of a sort from bonding over their desires.

All in all, the course of their journey took around 20 days’s in the spirit world and about 4 days in the human/mortal world. In that time thw 4 had to realize brief feelings for their respective love. Additionally, Zuko and Azula had grapple with the truth of the Fire Nations injustices. Spirits also forced Azula and Zuko to confront the realities of their father’s abuses over them.

Once Azula, Katara, Zuko, and Sokka reach the portal door the 4 have a “heart to heart” before going through. The conversation ends with Azula and Zuko deciding to join the Gaang and fight against Ozai.

At the last second before going into the portal, Azula and Katar look each other in the eye and they both nod. As if hearing themselves up to run a marathon.

Azula pulls Zuko’s head down and whispers into his ear. Katara does the same with Sokka. Then the two sets are kissing, get carried away and trip into the portal. Landing as a jumbled heap into the human/mortal world. But the Fire/Water sibs are all back in their world and in their bodies.

The war proceeds quickly and rather easily now that Azula and Zuko (with Mai and Ty Lee by extension) are on side. For his part Aang is upset about Katara and Sokka’s new relationship. But he doesn’t let them him distract from his duty as the Avatar. Aang eventually moves on from Katara and is happy for the couple.

The plan for the day of Black Sun works and Ozai is ousted. With Zuko becoming Fire Lord in his stead.

Azula and Zuko, and Katara and Sokka keep their taboo relationships under raps for several years. Azula and Sokka come up with a plan, Zuko would marry Katara publicly and Azula would marry Sokka publicly. They would all live in the Fire Nation palace. This way, they can keep their true relationships under wraps and keep the public from going insane over the taboo relationship(s).

I hoped you liked the Zucest/Kacest idea/ouline!

It's pretty neat, I'm not a superfan of Watercest like I am of Zucest but I still think it's a cool pairing.

I love your idea and think you should totally write it. Except the ending, that part make no sense. Zuko and Azula have no reason to have pretend marriages with other people, they are the supreme authority of their country. If genocide didn't make the Fire Nation rebel, some incest won't either.

Same for Katara and Sokka, they saved the world and are BFFs with the Avatar, it's the kind of status where you kinda do what you want.

Also I don't like Zutara and can't stand Sokkla so anything resembling it is a no go to me.

After meeting Jaime, who was in town for college, he developed an odd respect for the flamboyant antihero and their odd code of ethics, despite them being one of the weirder criminals in town.

Short story: Sunlight Spear. Being a writing exercise I did years ago but I still think holds up kinda well. Posting it for posterity and to demonstrate growth from writing this to my current fare. Written in a quasi-medieval/mythic styling, though without using Early Modern English. Focuses on the slaying of an emerald dragon by an ordinary human. Also talks up the concept of knightly chivalry because I like the romanticized knight. Nostalgic commentary under the cut.

Funnily enough, Lavi Adalbert, here represented as a knight that proves her worth by slaying a dragon and standing by her station against a calamitous force of nature, is one of my oldest characters and also somehow the one I've worked with the most. Crazy, right? My funky little Zelda OC is now the epicenter for so many of my ocs. Lavi has also changed the most over time, to the point that some AUs or members of her family tree have completely spun off into completely separate characters.

Lavi always had a knightly air to her, though she was initially a bit more headstrong and Dan.te-esque as a result. As I developed as a writer, I bent and broke her a few times, though I got some interesting characters out of it. Most relevant to this piece is Alfida Wyrmlende, who started life when I realized the concept I had for Lavi at one point was too far removed from her original idea and I wanted that high energy character back.

Alfida's story (which I'm throwing around how I want to tell) actually starts in a similar manner to this very story: she slays a dragon that attempts to consume a god to gain even greater flames, but she dies in that story... only to be brought back as a weapon spirit (a sort of mix between the weapons in So.ul Ea.ter and your average fantasy golem). Even though I've always associated Lavi with halberds, Alfida kept it when I split her off. Lavi herself is currently without a signature weapon as a result, though I'm thinking katars would fit her well.

I was part of an rp group when I wrote this, and I remember people really liking it. I think that was the first time I'd shared something original that garnered a positive reaction. Shame it took me the better part of a decade to get it into my head that I should do that more lol

So Hector Hall, aka Silver Scarab aka Doctor Fate, was originally the son of Hawkman and Hawkgirl, who are both reincarnations. It's a very long story, but Hector died and ended up in the Dreaming. Hector, however, took after his parents in the sense that he was destined to reincarnate.

But who was he going to reincarnate as? Well, Hawk and Dove get their powers from Chaos and Order respectfully, and are supposed to both balance each other out and give birth to beings of extreme power. Well, a future evil version of Hawk named Monarch showed up and killed Dove. Hawk was devastated and went evil (although he was also kinda being controlled by a sorcerer named Mordu) and became Extant and got very powerful. Anyways, Hawk saved Dove, then under Mordu's influence got her pregnant. Their baby was called the Fate Child, destined to become Doctor Fate and be an amazing sorcerer, and Mordu wanted to be reborn as the Fate Child, but Hector's spirit got there first and he was reincarnated as Dove and Hawk's child.

So that's how they're both his dad. Sorry if this was confusing, I tried to get the important things.

Also, they are both human! I think you might be confusing Carter Hall with Katar Hol, who is Thanagarian but a separate character, although they were fused together for a little while before Katar died.

Just me out here noting similarities between Carter Hall and Hank Hall (no relation. confirmed, anyways)
