I'm sorry just!! The Othello parallels between Goncharov and Andrey! a man vulnerable because he feels he fundamentally doesn't belong (Othello as the Moor in Venice/Goncharov as the Eastern European trying to find his footing in the world of the Italian mafia), his naive, trusting lover who doesn't see beyond their love for the man (Desdemona eloping with Othello/Andrey staying with Goncharov when everyone else leaves his life), the man killing his lover in a fit of rage after being poisoned against them by a scheming admiral (Othello murdering Desdemona after Iago convinces him she's cheating on him with Cassio/Goncharov poisoning Andrey's wine after Mario convinces him he's sleeping with his wife, Katya). Like!!

My husband is a man who collects things he can use. A pistol, a pocket-watch, a woman's love, a wife....
I'm obsessed with That Scene(tm) between Katya and Andrei in the California Director's Cut Rerelease of Goncharov, so I did a lighting study inspired by the film's Art Deco Posters! Little details like Katya never referring to her husband by his first name really add to Andrey and Katya's tense dynamic, which is one of the most underrated parts of the movie imo.

I can’t believe I hadn’t heard of Goncharov (1973) before!!!! I watched it last night and was blown away. Truly ahead of its time.

GONCHAROV (1973) dir. Martin Scorsese
“It funny because for many years people thought Goncharov was the main antagonist of the film, after all, he’s the one everyone’s out to get, right? But it seems people are starting to understand that in actual fact, it is time that is the main adversary in this story. There’s never enough of it and that torments a lot of characters, especially Goncharov, because he’s fighting so desperately to find his place in a world that is so keen on keeping him ostracized.”

Goncharov has fallen from the number 1 trending spot because of Wednesday, Netflix’s Addams Family spin-off. And its mostly taken over that trending spot because everyone is shipping Wednesday and Enid, two girls who are polar opposites but are forced into spending time together by external circumstances (school + parents) and become very close friends and whose relationship is sprinkled with more than a few hints of romantic tension.
Ya know what was trending for days at number 1 right before Goncharov? Warrior Nun. A show where two young women who are polar opposites meet and are forced to spend time together due to external circumstances (demons + the church) and who become very close friends and whose relationship is showered with more than some hints of romantic tension, and who eventually confess their love for one another.
So if you’re following the trajectory of this site, the priorities of its users goes:
WLW Ship -> group daydream about homoeroticism in fictional film -> WLW Ship
Further proving that this site is absolutely run by the girls, the gays, and the theys.

Hey y’all I’ve been looking through the Goncharov (1973) posts, and it seems like most people aren’t aware of the master document, which has all the lore, behind the scenes, and plot breakdown. It’s collaborative, so we can all make sure we get the most accurate depiction of everyone’s favorite movie :)

[enters IMGflip] [emerges 3 hours later with Goncharov (1973) and The Goncharov Trilogy book series memes] Please appreciate what I do for you with nothing more than a vague recollection from reading the books as a teenager and only recently finding out there was an entire movie made from them, apparently.

i keep seeing you guys be conflicted about how watching an actual goncharov movie would be super cool but then ppl say “yeah but it would ruin it!”
so here’s a pitch for you
a goncharov II movie. no first one, for obvious reasons. but they make a sequel and everyone who KNOWS will know and everyone who doesn’t will… well, you know. perfect way to continue the joke without completely ruining it and see a movie.
