Solar Opposites: Ultra Opposites The Movie Ch. 13 (from @avaveevo)

The next morning, Terry is wakes up while moaning, only for him to gasp in horror upon seeing Korvo gone.
Terry: Korvo?!
Terry looks around the room.
Terry: Korvy?!
Terry then sees a note on Korvo’s pillow and gasp. He reads it and it says, “We Have Your Husband! Turn yourselves in or else, his powers are mine, Ultra Opposites - Ophelia”
Terry gasps as Courage In Me (Reprise) plays. Terry looks out the window and then at his wedding ring as he smiles in determination and knows what to do.
[TERRY]
It’s so dark
There’s a star in the sky, but there’s a sound to be heard as reality blur, dreams aren’t gone in the light!
Reaching out, world’s not far from behind, I can do this alone, I have find my way home, no more doubts in mind
I finally have the Courage in me! I’m braver than I’ve been before! Done searching for the courage and now I believe this is what I’m destined for… Ooooooooooh…
Terry glows red as he transforms into Solar Flare as he flies out the window with the kids, Phoebe, Janiz, the two AIs and their friends follow him.
[SOLAR FLARE]
What was in darkness Is totally different in the light And deep in my heart I have found a way to climb to new heights I have gone on regardless Of anything standing in my way Harness the power in me for those who need to be saved No more running No more running Time to soar through the sky tonight I'm not going down without a fight Cause it is the time My moment to rise
Meanwhile, Korvo is seen tied to a chair as he groans as he wakes up
Korvo: What the fuck?!
Ophelia: Hello, Legendary Super Shlorpian.
Korvo gasp upon seeing Ophelia and Echo.
Korvo: Let me go!
Ophelia: Never! Now I got you now where I wanted! Your powers belong to me now!
Korvo: What?! Wait, no!
Ophelia: I HAVE YOU NOW!
Echo uses her powers to suck out Korvo's powers as he screams in pain
Sister Sisto/Echo: *laughs evilly* We got them now! His powers are ours!
Ophelia smirks evilly. Korvo groans in pain as he has his powers sucked by Echo as he collapse and groans.
Korvo: *struggling to get up* What have you done?! *moans*
Ophelia: I have your powers!
Ophelia laughs evilly as she develops ice powers as Korvo struggles to get up.
Korvo: You won't...get away with this...
Korvo then collapse on the floor. Until, Solar Flare bust in there with the kids.
Terry/Solar Flare: Korvy!
Yumyulack/Psylock, Jesse/Electra and Sonya/Soarin’ Girl: Korvo! Dad! Daddy!
Korvo: Guys! Get out of here now! Ophelia has my powers!
Terry/Solar Flare, Yumyulack/Psylock, Jesse/Electra and Sonya/Soarin’ Girl: WHAT?!
Terry/Solar Flare: *turns to Ophelia with courage in his eyes* GIVE ME BACK MY HUBBY’s powers!
Ophelia: It’s too late! His powers are mine! *turns into a Super Shlorpian as she flies off and starts to create destruction*
Ophelia then uses her super Shlorpian powers as she creates havoc to the city.
Ophelia: *grunting as she uses her ice powers to destroy part of town*
The rest of the Ultra Opposites arrive as they gasp at the destruction.
Nova/Lady Roseus: *looking up as she gasp*
Cherie/Agent Red: No...
Kevin/The Flamethrower: Guys! Our friends might in danger come on!
Then, they see a girl name Monica heroically running past the destruction as he pants.
Miss Frankie/Shadow Lady: Take shelter!
Back with Solar Flare and the kids, they heroically face Ophelia. Solar Flare's skin turns black as he grows bigger and muscularS
Terry/Solar Flare: *suits tears rips apart by the muscle grow as his eyes glow orange* Oh yeeeeeeeesss! *now fully controlled* this feeeeeels gooooooooooood!
Now a Mundane, Solar Flare roars heroically as he faces Super Shlorpian Ophelia.
Super Shlorpian Ophelia: Bring it on!
Mundane Solar Flare suddenly gets orange marks on his body as Korvo gasps: Mundane Solar Flare roars as he uses his fire powers to stop Ophelia. Super Shlorpian Ophelia roars as he uses a power ice blast, luckily Electra swings her electric ball around to keep it away from her father.
Jesse/Electra: You just got Electra'd!
The scene then cuts back to Mia, Phoebe and Ms. Perez as they follow their friends while Phoebe is holding Lili. A neon green orb piece appears floating towards the girls. Mia gasp upon seeing Monica in danger after she tripped and shield herself, but then the neon green orb merges with Mia offscreen, as she appears in her own super suit and catches Monica to safety.
Monica: Thanks, lady!

Monica nods. Mia, now known as Shining Light after doing her own heroic pose, Ms. Perez and Phoebe meets up with the rest of the heroes.
Nova/Lady Roseus: Mia?
Mia/Shining Light: Shining Light.
Ms. Perez: Come on! We have to keep moving!
The rest of the Ultra Opposites shield themselves form the wind as they heroically keep going. Shining Light then turns around and gasp as she creates a rope with a ball on it and swings it around to keep the storm away from her and her allies. Back with the others... Electra then leaps from the ground as she lands on her feet and gets into a fighting stance with her siblings and father. But then, Super Shlorpian Ophelia grabs Mundane Solar Flare as she growls.
Super Shlorpian Ophelia: You are nothing but a weakling! Just like your loser husband!
Mundane Terry/Solar Flare: That’s not true! I am stronger than ever! And it’s because of the love of my family and friends! They’re not my weakness! They’re my strength!
Super Shlorpian Ophelia: *laughs* How pathetic *breathes ice at Psylock*
Psylock dodges it as he lands on his face while his eyes glow purple.
Super Shlorpian Ophelia: Now allow to demonstrate how weak you are!
Super Shlorpian Ophelia then throws Mundane Solar Flare out of the window as the kids and Korvo gasp in horror.
Korvo: NO!'
Sonya/Soarin’ Girl: Daddy! Hang on! *flies out of the window*
Meanwhile with Sherbet, she is lying on her bedroom, only for to notices her hand is turning violet.
Sherbet: *laughs* The less interested you are, the more you know.
The scene then cuts back to Shining Light struggling to keep the wind away as she grunts. Echo then sees this and creates a powerful blast that blows some of the heroes away.
Sherbet: Huh? *gasp as she opens the window and sees a powerful storm*
Sherbet then gains determination. Sherbet then grows determined as he starts to glow violet with a the colors of the rainbow shining through her chest. The rest of the Ultra Oppisites duck as they leap away from the blast. Sherbet then transforms with her own super suit as she heads out of the window. The heroes slowly awaken as Violet manages to get them away from the blast.
Nova/Lady Roseus: Sherbet?
Sherbet/Violet: Violet!
Violet does her own superhero pose while Janiz arrives with AISHA and EVA.
Jamie/Firey: We’ll take it from here, good citizens!
EVA: What is going on?!
Principal Cooke/Super Cooke: Quick guys! Let’s get moving!
The heroes, Ms. Perez, Phoebe, still holding Lili carefully then run up, made it and climb their way up to the fortress with Janiz, who is holding Pezlie the two AIs following them. The scene then cuts to Korvo as he heroically starts to get back up.
Super Shlorpian Ophelia: Aw, what's the matter, Korvo? Upset that you're hubby's dead?
Korvo however heroically refuses to give as he looks at his wedding ring and closes his eyes in determination.
Super Shlorpian Ophelia: Well, the hero is in the house!
Korvo opens his eyes and yells in fury as he runs towards Super Shlorpian Ophelia. Korvo then uses his life saving sword to fight Ophelia. Super Shlorpian Ophelia tries to harm him, but luckily Korvo ducks as Janiz arrives and gasp upon seeing her brother in danger. Then, the heroes made it but gasp upon seeing Korvo in danger.
Darcy/Miss Darcina: Korvo!
Janiz: KORVO! *eyes starts glowing icy pink as her skin starts turning black*
AISHA: Uh, Janiz? Are you-
Janiz then grows bigger and muscular as he rips her own clothes apart and her voice deepen as her horns and wings and roars after she develop boobs. Korvo looks at Janiz and gasps.
Korvo: Janiz… *cries tears of joy*
Super Shlorpian Janiz: Let my little brother go!
Super Shlorpian Ophelia: Make me!
Super Shlorpian Janiz: LET! HIM! GO!
Super Shlorpian Janiz fires her ice breath at Super Shlorpian Ophelia who dodges it as she growls. Back with Soarin’ Girl, she looks everywhere for her father desperately.
Sonya/Soarin’ Girl: Terry! Daddy!
Suddenly, she gasp upon seeing a giant black monstrous hand with orange marks on it.
Sonya/Soarin’ Girl: Daddy?
Solar Flare, now a mega Mundane roars but is in control
Sonya/Soarin Girl: *gasp in tears of joy* Daddy! *laughs while crying as she embraces Mega Mundane Solar Flare, who purrs*
Mega Mundane Terry/Solar Flare: You alright, kid?
Sonya/Soarin’ Girl: Of course. I’m so happy you’re okay daddy!
Pezlie who is cooing sees this and falls but luckily Soarin’ Girl catches her.
Sonya/Soarin’ Girl: Got ya!
Pezlie: *giggles*
Pezlie coos but then a tickle me pink orb piece floats towards Pezlie as it merges with her, much to Soarin’ Girl and Mega Mundane Solar Flare’s surprise.
Sonya/Soarin’ Girl: Wha? Did that thing just merged with a baby?
Mega Mundane Terry/Solar Flare: Looks like it did.
Back with the other Ultra Opposites, Super Shlorpian Janiz still thought with Super Shlorpian Ophelia who roars, but then Agent Red kicks Ophelia in the face. Korvo attacks with his sword
Korvo: *swings his sword at Ophelia* STAY AWAY FROM MY BIG SISTER!
Super Shlorpian Ophelia: ENOUGH!
Super Shlorpian Ophelia blast a made a blast that almost injured Agent Red. Pezlie, who is scared by this, starts crying suddenly acid tears as it causes the fortress to collapse.
Sonya/Soarin’ Girl: Oh no! Pezlie’s tears have became acid ones! The fortress is collapsing! Guys, look out!
Super Shlorpian Ophelia: The time for games is over! Once I-
Suddenly the fortress break apart as our heroes, Echo and Super Shlorpian Ophelia falls. Soarin’ Girl and Mega Mundane Solar Flare sees their family and friends in danger and rushes over to help them as they fall in the water.
Sonya/Soarin’ Girl: Guys!
Mega Mundane Solar Flare gasp but grows determined as he along with Soarin’ Girl and Pezlie heads over there. A few seconds later, Shining Light appears from the water as she breathes for air.
Mia/Shining Light: Is everyone okay?
Suddenly, Ophelia grabs her by the throat.
Super Shlorpian Ophelia: You foil my plans for the last time, Ultra Opposites.
Ms. Perez gasp while an orange orb piece appears behind her and merges with her without looking. Ms. Perez then gets her own super suit.
Ms. Perez/???: *to Super Shlorpian Ophelia* HEY! LEAVE HER ALONE!
Super Shlorpian Ophelia growls and throws Shining Light to the ground. Ms. Perez then develops a super sonic scream as it blasted Ophelia. The other Ultra Opposites emerge from the water when suddenly, Mega Mundane Solar Flare appears and helps lift his friends up from the water.
Mega Mundane Terry/Solar Flare: Miss me?!
Ultra Opposites: *in joy* TERRY!
Korvo gasps with tears of joy in his eyes.
Korvo: *tears of joy* TERRY! *kisses Mega Mundane Solar Flare on the forehead who purrs* There’s my brave super hubby.
Mega Mundane Terry/Solar Flare: You okay? *puts a hand on Korvo's cheek* She didn't hurt you, did she?
Korvo: No… but I really need my powers back… without them, I’m weak…
Korvo collapses into Mega Mundane Solar Flare's arms
Mega Mundane Terry/Solar Flare: Shh… it’s okay… we’ll get them back… I promise.
Korvo's breathing gets ragged and he coughs out blood
Mega Mundane Terry/Solar Flare: *gasp* Oh no! The Super Shlorpian! It’s your lifesource! Is it?!
Korvo nods and cries out in pain. Electra gasp in horror upon seeing her dad in near death as she growls and her yellow electric sparks turn into pink as her eyes suddenly starts glowing pink.
Yumyulack/Psylock: How do we get the spirit back into Korvo?!
Super Shlorpian Janiz: I got it! One of us has got to fight Ophelia and-
Jesse/Electra: NO!
Electra approaches Ophelia as she starts snarling like an animal as her skin turns black and she starts growing bigger and muscular as her dress and shoes rip apart into pieces. She then grows boobs as her voice deepens.
Mundane Jesse/Electra: GIVE MY DAD BACK HIS POWER!
Now a Mundane, Electra roars as she pummels on Super Shlorpian Ophelia and attacks her.
Mega Mundane Terry/Solar Flare: JESSE?!
Super Shlorpian Ophelia smirks evilly.
Super Shlorpian Ophelia: Echo, now!
But just before Echo could attack, Mundane Jesse grabs Echo as she screams out in pain and then has Korvo’s powers pulled away from Ophelia who screams in pain as her powers get pulled out and transferred back into Korvo, who awakens as he breathes for air.
Mega Mundane Terry/Solar Flare: Korvy?!

It then cuts back to Strebers perspective again. Though seemingly, he is once again in his own thoughts. He begins to think about how often Thomas has been coming over lately to visit Aria. He had even been coming over so much to the point of leaving his stuff around, the guest bedroom was practically his now too. Streber had even been staying out late during days where Thomas would be present because he didn't want to see him. Streber knew it was irrational. He didn't really have a reason to avoid Thomas or even.. hate him. But it was just that he looked so much like.. his fath—
...
No, no, that wasn't it.
Streber then stops spacing out, and begins to converse with Kevin whenever Ethan goes over to a hot-dog stand to purchase some. Kevin seems to be in a pretty good mood, talking about how much fun it had been ever since he had met them. And how grateful he was to be friends with them both.
Streber thanks him, and then adds that he liked spending time with Kevin too. He liked being with him because of how happy life felt. He then adds rather desperately that there was no reason for him not to be happy. Kevin arches a brow at his slight shift in tone, though Streber quickly diverts Kevin's attention from it by teasing him. To which Kevin gets distracted immediately and starts to act defensively.
(Stopping so ya can read)
Ohhhh
Poor Thomas. He's going to be brutally murdered through no fault of his own later isn't he

Okay friends, I can’t resist. Here’s what I spent yesterday and today on.
May I present (drumroll): Generations, chapter 1 (new and improved!)
"The first ship launched at twelve noon a whole day ago and nobody even noticed," someone was saying as Anna-Lucia drifted towards consciousness. "No coverage whatsoever, just business as usual. I'm telling you, they don't take it seriously. It's the answer we've been waiting for."
"You're a fool, Kevin, and you always have been." Leah's voice, old but still steady, held that special note of loving judgment that only mothers can summon.
"Mom's right," George grunted gruffly over his brother's protestations. "If the feds are quiet, it's because they're being competent. Not a good sign."
"Come now!" Kevin's exasperation was so potent Anna-Lucia's eyes snapped open. "I can't be the only one to see what a huge chance this is. Another space race, and the private sector is there first! And he who gets there first, makes the rules. Andy? Don't you see what I mean?"
Andrew's recliner creaked in deep protest as he shifted his solid frame. The squeak and protest of that chair reached far back in Anna-Lucia's memory to the dim recesses of childhood. Her racing heart slowed as full consciousness returned, replacing the cramped and lightless dreams through which she had been wandering. Reality flooded back. Her flight had been delayed - endlessly delayed - the crowds were stifling. And that insufferable airport smell! But it was all behind her now. She was home. Anna-Lucia sank a little deeper into the couch, fondly watching the four shadowed figures around the other three sides of the enormous coffee table.
"The Population Committee will be making their own announcement any day now," her father was saying, his slow, rumbling bass filling the little room. "Mark my words. If StarTech has gone public with this technology without fanfare, it's because of court order, and our dearly unelected Pop Comm will be bursting out the seams to show their hand."
"Just so," Leah said approvingly. "Did you see the live feed?" she asked Kevin. He shook his head. "Well, no reason you should, I suppose, being there in person. There are three channels, as you know, and one is always on the launching grounds. But not that day. It was switched, from exactly eleven a.m. to one p.m., to the rover testing site."
"Which means?" Kevin asked wearily.
"What's the fastest way to get the public's attention?"
"Hint of coverup." George's eyes glittered in the low light. "Smart, that, if there is a gag order. Let somebody else do the announcement."
"But it's been more than twenty four hours, and not even a hint in the news. Not even - I mean, not a single channel," Kevin protested.
"And you're sure it was a life ship?" Anna-Lucia heard herself asking. She sat up, raking a tangle of curls out of her eyes, and reached for her cider mug. Of course - it was stone cold by now.
"Welcome back, my dear." Leah smiled at her. "It's nigh time for coffee, now. "Shall I start some?"
"I can do it, Grandma, you don't have to get up."
"Oh, sit still, child, and let me be useful for once." Leah carefully unwrapped from her many layers of blankets, cinched her robe tighter, and shuffled between chairs toward the kitchen. Her sons watched her go carefully, but her progress was confident and steady.
"Of course it wasn't the life ship itself," Kevin continued, as though there had been no interruption. "That had to be assembled in orbit. But it was unmistakably a shuttle service - dozens of shuttles lifted off simultaneously, we're talking hundreds of people, from grannies to babes in arms. And yet not a whisper anywhere. That doesn't say federal order, to me, but top secret private operation."
"But how did they keep the chatter out of the news?" George asked.
"And why in broad daylight?" Anna-Lucia pressed. "If this is a deliberate, flagrant violation of colonization law, why do it in plain sight? They can't possibly think switching the live feed meant it went unnoticed."
Kevin didn't have an answer for that. Silence swept over them like a tide, and even in the dim light Anna-Lucia could see how tired they looked. Birdsong began to filter in.
"It's best we all get a few hours sleep," Andy rumbled at last. "We're none of us young as we used to be, and it's going to be a long week."
Murmurs of agreement came and the three men stood, stretching and slapping each other on the back. Kevin and George moseyed up the stairs, discussing the prospects of fishing later that day. Andy, not a fat man but tall and broad, looked almost too big for the room as he eased his bulk around the coffee table. He laid a wide, callused hand on Anna-Lucia's dark hair. "Morning, honeysuckle," he said, as softly as his deep voice allowed.
She smiled up at him, her first real smile in weeks, and it felt strained and unnatural against her cheeks. "Morning, Dad."
"Bad trip?"
"I've had worse."
"Not like you, to sleep through such talk."
"Traveling is exhuasting. It'll pass."
"Hope so. Clear skies tomorrow."
Anna-Lucia tweaked the heavy curtain behind her head, letting in the chill blue predawn glow. "Tonight, looks like."
"Good weather for star gazing."
Anna-Lucia squeezed her father's hand between her own. "I'll be ready. Get some sleep, Dad."
"'Night, honeysuckle."
When Andy left, Anna-Lucia sank back against the cushions and draped great-great grandmother's blue and white afghan over her, settling into the stillness. Home. For six whole days. It was too good to be true. The week stretched before her in her mind's eye, long, warm days with nothing to do but sit, sleep, listen to her uncles' friendly bickering, and soak in the sun and the fields. She could almost pretend, here at the dawn of this freedom, she was here to stay.
The stillness of the house was balm to her chafed soul after the constant buzz of the city. No roars of trams and cars, no constant hum of voices, no continual opening and shutting of doors, no continuous press of footsteps, no sirens. Stillness, and birdsong.
The familiar little living room, crowded with its couches and rockers and recliners around the ancient, massive oak coffee table, was like an old friend. Anna-Lucia stretched luxuriously and leaned forward to trace the smooth, familiar wood with her hand. It was cool and silky, worn smooth across centuries. The broad surface was stained a dark, rich color. A deep, angular crack ran its length, nearly end to end. It, too, had had been polished to a shine.
When Leah came in with a steaming mug of coffee and her own dainty china cup of tea, Anna-Lucia was still considering the table, its blunt, rounded edges and four thick legs. She took the mug gratefully and scooted back against the broad cushions, arranging the afghan over her knees.
"Aren't you going to bed, Grandma?"
Leah settled herself securely back in her comfortable chair, covered in layers of blankets. "Oh, no. I rarely sleep more than a few hours at night anymore. I do always nap a little in the mid-morning. These are not such unusual hours for me."
"I used to love staying awake in the wee hours. But it's not - not - so restful, in the city. It never really gets dark there. Or quiet."
"You'll be going back?"
Anna-Lucia looked at her coffee. "I don't have much of a choice."
Leah ignored this. "How is it? The work?"
Anna-Lucia hesitated. "Complicated."
"Don't be daft, child. Of course it's complicated."
Anna-Lucia gripped her coffee tightly. "I'm having trouble."
"Lose a lot?"
"Almost all of them."
Leah nodded, unsurprised. "But you went. Knowing what you'd find."
"I didn't exactly have a choice!"
"There is always a choice," her grandmother said sharply. "You could have placed your own happiness, however temporary it would have turned out to be, over the welfare of this family. And you did not. You made the right choice."
The grandfather clock's ticking stitched the silence together. From her couch, Anna-Lucia could only see its side, ornately carved, lined from top to bottom with vines, flowers, and birds. She listened to the steady ticking, closed her eyes, and matched her breaths to it evenly. Three seconds in; three seconds held; three seconds out. Eventually, as the birdsong grew louder, the tension between them began to melt away. Anna-Lucia opened her eyes and saw, with a guilty lurch, that the tension had all been on her part - Leah's face was watching her closely, deeply lined with worry, her bright eyes kind.
"How have things been, Grandma?" she asked, trying for a smile.
"About the same," Leah replied, smiling easily back. "Your father is forever in the fields, checking and logging and walking fences and vidding the managers in the far corners. New hands, this summer," she added, as if in afterthought, and a chill grew in Anna-Lucia's middle. Government men, then. They were being watched.
"How long have Uncle George and Uncle Kevin been in?"
"George two days, Kevin one - he came straight from StarTech, as you heard. And they'll be leaving early, I'm sure."
"Did everyone come with them?"
"Oh, yes. Rachel and Ashlynn came with the kids as soon as they'd wrapped up at summer school."
"I can't imagine a family reunion in flyover country is high on the list of excused absences from their Prep courses."
Leah snorted. "I'm surprised Ashlynn could be talked into coming at all. But don't you dare repeat that."
Anna-Lucia smiled into her coffee. "My lips are sealed. Is anyone else making it?"
"No word yet."
They were quiet a moment, companionably, listening to the now raucous birdsong. Early morning light had begun to filter in around the heavy curtains without her hardly noticing, but now Anna-Lucia was loathe to open them. The private, safe feeling of this hour, in this room, was precious.
Abruptly, she realized that this was Sunday morning. "Grandma, I hardly thought. But what about Fath-"
"Your father can tell you all about his exploits himself, I'm sure," Leah interrupted smoothly. "I doubt he'll sleep long - though he way he works himself, he certainly ought to..."
Leah chattered on for a moment while Anna-Lucia stared at her. Then ever so slightly, Leah pushed her lips together, a thin, warning line.
The illusion of safety shattered like a fumbled egg. They were listening.
Anna-Lucia stood, setting her barely touched coffee to the side, and flung open the curtains, letting the morning in like a waterfall.

In My Veins - Chapter One

Chapter one
Stirling House, London, June 22nd 1913.
I was fidgeting nervously with the skirt of my beautiful green dress, before I let my fingers run over the emerald silk ribbon around my waist, as I looked at myself in the mirror. Katelyn, my maid, was helping me get ready for my debutante ball, gently running the brush through my long, dark brown hair to make it shine, before she was going to style it into the long braid we had talked about. I had wanted something simple, something that didn’t draw too much attention to me. I wasn’t used to meeting people, and I wasn’t too sure it would go well.
“You’ll be fine, my lady. Her grace will look out for you and so will Kevin.” She told me with a smile, most likely to calm my nerves. Any other day it would have worked, but on this night, with everything that was expected of me, it just didn’t.
“My father wants everything to be perfect, every little detail, what if I do something wrong?” Disappointing my father was something I tried my very best not to do, because he didn’t take to failure lightly, especially not from me and definitely not tonight.
A week had gone by since my eighteenth birthday, and it was the first day of my first season in London society. I had been presented to King George V and Queen Mary at Buckingham Palace, which had been nerve-wracking, but I’d had my mother, Helen, at my side so it hadn’t been so bad. Mother’s reassuring smile had been a great comfort, but the scowl on father’s face definitely hadn’t. It was as if he was expecting me to make a mistake at every move I made, which wasn’t a good feeling to have when you were being presented to the King and Queen. But as always, my father, Hamish, the Duke of Hamilton, wanted everything to be perfect, he was very proud of his title and wanted himself and the family name seen in the best of lights. And on that day, I was very much the representative of the family, he didn’t tolerate any mistake I could have made.
Thankfully the presentation went flawlessly, which left the one thing I was most nervous about. The debutante ball. So many things were expected of me at that ball, more than at the presentation where almost all I had to do was curtsy. At the ball, I was expected to dance with, talk to and be pleasant to any man who wanted to dance with me. Since this was my first season, I was very nervous about it all.
“Try not to worry so much, my lady, tonight is about you making connections, dancing with a few young men, meeting other young people to make alliances and friendships with for your future. Maybe having a little bit of fun.” Katelyn gave me a reassuring smile and let her hand run gently down my arm.
“You’re right, Katelyn. Thank you.” I laid my hand on top of hers, smiling nervously back at her, before she finished helping me get ready for the ball. Katelyn and I had always been close, it was quite improper for a noble lady to be such close friends with a maid, but she was the only person, other than my mother, that I could talk freely to in the house. She had been with me ever since I had been moved out of the nursery and no longer needed my nanny and having someone to talk to so often during the day meant so much to me. I was so happy to have her with me tonight.
“You’re ready to go now, my lady.” Katelyn smiled as she took a step back to let me get up.
“You most certainly are not!” My father, who had just walked into my room, exclaimed as soon as I had gotten up and he saw me. “You can’t expect to be presented to society looking like that.”
“But fath-” I tried to explain myself, but he was quick to interrupt me.
“How dare you talk back to me, Alexis!” He said as he walked closer to me, his anger so evident in his eyes that I thought he might slap me. “You look like an insolent child. How do you expect to represent our family looking like that? You have been presented to the king, you’re a woman now, and you better start acting like one.”
“Yes, father. I’m sorry, father.” I quickly bowed my head to him. I had never been very good at standing up to him, his anger and what he did when he was angry had always scared me too much.
“The maid will redo your hair to something more grown up, something more respectable, so you’ll look like a sophisticated young lady. And she will do it quickly, you wouldn’t want to be late and keep Lord Dunmore waiting, would you?” He asked, but it felt more like a threat, so I shook my head and quickly sat down at the dressing table again. After that he quickly left the room again, and I took a shaky breath, fighting my hardest to hold back the tears I could feel starting to pool in the corners of my eyes.
“I told you I would do something wrong.” I looked at her reflection in the mirror, feeling like a complete failure, and very much not in the mood to go to a ball. Especially not one where I would be the centre of attention.
“It’s not as bad as all that, my lady, and it’s easily fixed.” She quickly began undoing the beautiful braid she had just made. “What do you say we try a classic Psyche Knot? That’s certainly sophisticated, wouldn’t you say?”
“I’m sure it is, but what if he still doesn’t like it?” I was fidgeting with my hands again, doing my best not to crease my dress or ruin my makeup. I couldn’t stand if anything else was wrong in my father’s eyes, there was no telling what he would do if he got angry again.
“I’ve seen her grace wear this hairstyle many times before, so I’m sure it will be fine.” Again, I felt her comforting hand on my shoulder, so I sent her a little smile, before she got to work on my hair again.
“How does meeting the King and Queen make someone a grown up? What exactly is it about that ceremony that suddenly makes you more than you were before?” I wasn’t sure Katelyn could even answer the question, I wasn’t sure anyone could answer it, but I really hoped someone could.
“It’s not meeting the King and Queen that makes you a grown up, that’s just a step you have to take on your way to becoming the person you’re supposed to be. The King and Queen don’t have any special powers over you or your age, my lady, you’re not a different person because you met them, but the things you can do now are different. You might not think things are going to change for you, but just wait until the end of the night, until you’ve had your first dance with a young man you might like, maybe then you’ll see the change.” Katelyn had a certain look in her eyes as she talked about me dancing, like she had experienced everything she had just talked about herself. I knew she had never met the King and Queen, that wasn’t the part she was thinking about, she was thinking about dancing. I couldn’t help but wonder who she had danced with that made her look so happy.
“Who did you dance with?” I knew there wasn’t too much time for the conversation now, my father would be so mad at me if I took too long getting ready and I couldn’t make him madder than I already had. But she wasn’t done with my hair yet, so there was still a little bit of time left.
“He said I couldn’t tell anyone, he wasn’t supposed to be dancing with me… But you can keep a secret, right?”
“Of course. I promise I won’t tell anyone.” I reassured her with a bright smile, happy that she trusted me enough to tell me her secret.
“A couple of years ago, back in Scotland, I was cleaning the music room by myself, when Kevin came in saying that he needed to work on his dancing, because he was going to a ball later that same night. I told him I was sure he didn’t need to work on his dancing, that I had seen him dance before and I thought he was magnificent at it… We got to talking some more and as a thank you for the compliment I’d paid him, he asked me to dance with him.” She was blushing so much as she said the last part, but the smile on her face was happier than I could ever remember seeing it.
“You danced with Kevin?” The smile on my face was bright and excited, Kevin was the youngest of my two elder brothers, and the only one of the two who liked me. I loved him very much, he had always been kind to me, so I wanted him to be the happiest he could be. But I knew that there was a very small chance that Katelyn and Kevin would ever get to be together. He was the second son of a Duke and she was a maid, there was no way father would let him be with her, it would bring the family name into disrepute. In his eyes, at least. I wouldn’t care who he married, as long as they were happy. “That’s wonderful!”
“Yes… It was wonderful.” Her smile was bright as well, the blush still very visible on her face. “That’s how I know that you’ll see a difference, my lady. If you’re lucky enough to meet a young man that you like, it will change everything you know about yourself and the life you lead. Once you find someone to love, you’ll think that you aren’t growing up fast enough.”
I couldn’t help but laugh at that, the notion that meeting a man and falling in love with him would change me in some magical way. I didn’t know if I wanted to believe in it or not, finding someone to love did sound wonderful, even if I was nervous about meeting new people. Finding someone to love, to marry, meant that I would get away from my father, which I wanted more than anything. But I was too scared to hope it would ever be a man I would be able to love, especially since I knew that my father was planning to find a husband for me. It wasn’t as if my happiness was something my father cared about.
My father had never cared about me, I was just a daughter he had no need of, born to him by an American heiress he had married for money. He had been married once before, to a woman he had loved with all his heart, and she had given him his two beloved sons. In his eyes, no one could follow his first wife, so he had barely tried to love my mother, and when she only gave him a daughter, he had stopped trying.
Even though I had ruined what little happiness there had been in the marriage when I was born, my mother never blamed me or hated me for it. She loved me more than anybody else in the world, she had made sure to tell me that often as I grew up. Mother had married father when she had been twenty-one years old, and father had been forty, she had never expected great happiness from the marriage, but she had still tried. She had done her best to try and love father, make the best out of the union, but she had told me that once I was born, my father grew cold, so she gave up too.
Even if I knew my mother never blamed me for her unhappiness, I had often felt guilty for causing it. If only I had been born a boy, there was a chance that my father would have loved her, that he would have loved me and we all would have been happy. It was a foolish thing to overthink, I knew it would never bring me any happiness, but it was the one thought that always came back to me whenever my father told me off for being or doing something he would never approve of.
Most likely, the only thing I could ever do that he would approve of would be to marry this Lord Dunmore, so everything hinged on my meeting with him that evening. That, of course, made me more nervous about the ball than I already had been, and I wasn’t sure if I actually looked forward to meeting him. I could only hope that he was a nice man, that he was someone I could make a good life with, even if there wouldn’t be love between us.
“I hope you’re right.” I replied after a while of silence, having been so caught up in my own head that I wasn’t sure how much time had actually passed. But it must have been a while, since when I looked at Katelyn in the mirror again, she took a step back and smiled at me.
“You’re ready now, my lady.” I sent her a quick smile in the mirror, before taking a look at myself. It took me a moment to recognise myself, for just a second, I was almost convinced that I was looking at my mother. I hadn’t noticed that I had started looking so much like her, but seeing myself with the hairstyle she so often wore drove the point home for me. I didn’t have a long time to dwell on it though, since I knew my father was waiting for me with a ticking clock. So, I got up from the dressing table and quickly thanked Katelyn for her help before hurrying out of my room.
I found Kevin standing at the top of the grand staircase, waiting to escort me down to the ball. We were supposed to open the ball together. He, as well as our eldest brother, Robert, had the same blonde hair our father had once had. Though, unlike Robert, Kevin hadn’t inherited any other features from our father. He looked more like his mother, I had never seen her in person, of course, but father had always kept a portrait of her hanging in pride of place in Lennoxlove House, in Scotland. She had looked so very kind, and so did Kevin. He had never known his mother, though, she had died giving birth to him. Our father and Robert had never forgiven him for that.
“Good evening, Kevin.” I kissed his cheek softly when I stopped next to him, before taking a deep breath to calm my nerves, trying my best not to fidget again.
“Good evening, Lexy.” The smile on his face made me feel more confident, and I happily took his arm when he offered it to me. “Are you ready, darling?”
“I suppose I’m as ready as I’ll ever be.” The hand I had resting on his arm tightened its hold on him at the thought of the evening in front of me.
“You’ll be fine.” He told me as he put a comforting hand on top of mine. “Just put one foot in front of the other, one step at a time.”
“I’ll do my best.” I replied with the best confident nod I could muster, as he led the way down the stairs.
At the bottom of the stairs, we found our father waiting for us, his pocket watch lying open in his right hand and the fingers of his left tapping impatiently on his hip. I didn’t think I was very late, but he must have disagreed with me, judging by the disapproving look on his face when he turned around and saw us.
“There you are, finally.” He quickly let his eyes run over me as he put his watch back in its pocket, letting out a grunt that sounded somewhat approving, before he walked into the ballroom.
I wasn’t sure what I had expected from him, but it was certainly much more than a grunt. But, at least, it seemed that there was nothing about me that he disapproved of too much, and that was better than nothing.
“We should follow him, if you’re ready.” Kevin suggested with a gentle and encouraging smile on his face, as he squeezed my hand.
“Yes, I think we better had, we’re opening the ball, after all.”

It Takes Almost Dying

Warnings anguish, main character injury, fluff ending Pairing jughead x reader Story
You walked alone along the path leading up to pops. On your way to meet the gang as you called them. You, Jughead, Archie, Betty, Cheryl, and Kevin had been friends for as long as you could remember. There wasn't a day that you all didn't spend time together. Then Veronica came to town and completing the group making you the magnificent seven. Thursday's was group night, a night was you'd all meet in pops before going to the feature movie at bijou or during summer you'd hang out by sweet water. Now Jughead had joined the serpent's and was still in a meeting with them at the Whyte Wyrm often making him late for group night.
"so y/n how long you gonna wait before telling Jughead yours in love with him. Some of those girls in the serpents are hot" Cheryl said. Everyone laughed knowing she was talking about Toni topaz, the pink haired serpent who'd stolen her heart. Cheryl smiled "well tee-tee only proves my point about serpent girls, get your boy before finds biker chick," she says raising her eyebrow. It was no secret among the group that you were head over heels for the raven-haired boy. You'd started crushing on him when you were about 12 and it only got worse the older you got. Now you only had eyes for Jughead but were to shy to actually tell him, afraid of rejection or worse a void in the close friendship you had with him.
Unbeknown to you Jughead had loved you for just as long as you'd loved him. He'd never known what to say about his feeling for you chose not to say anything at all, hoping if you felt the same that you'd make the first move so he didn't have too. His serpent meeting had gone on longer than he'd hoped, he took out his phone to text saying he was going to late. "texting your girlfriend" Toni teased. Jug shot a look at her to say shut up, "oh come on Jones just tell her and if you can't find the words just kiss her. She'll get the message" Toni said as she wiped down the bar. After listening to her continue to talk him into expressing his feelings, Jughead decided he was going to do it make the first move. As soon as the meeting finished he got on his bike racing to pops to find you "go get her tiger" Toni called as he pulled off.
You went outside for some fresh air and a break from Cheryl you loved her but wished she'd leave this whole Jughead thing alone. You'd been sitting on the wall re-reading the text jug had sent 20 minutes ago, saying he was going to be late. Another text came through on my way now see you in 5 mins it said. You smirked "well hurry up I need to talk to you" you typed back. It was a few minutes later when you heard the sounds of skidding tires and scraping metal gave you the worst feeling. Running to the sound your worse fears were met. Jughead laid on the road, his bike on the ground under a car. You screamed as loud as you ever had before dropping to your knees next to him, not caring if they were cut or not. Filled with panic you start calling out his name screaming at him to look at you move say something. He didn't he laid still with his eyes closed.
The others saw you take off and came to follow, running when they heard your screams. Betty got out her phone to call an ambulance, while Kevin went to the other car to check the driver. He was mumbling something about not seeing Jughead he tried to swerve out the way but the bike came to fast. Everything around you was a blur time went by too quickly for you to notice the ambulance pull up. Archie and Cheryl were now next to you trying to pull you away from jug so the paramedics could see to him. You cried into jugs chest your arms wrapped around him holding on tight, almost like if you let go he'd die. Archie grabbed you by the waist dragging you from Jughead's body. The tears rolled down your cheeks as you struggled to break free and go back to the boy you loved.
Everyone was gathered around you, all talking at once some to you, other to each other or on phone calls. To you it was all just noise and sound, your attention was on the medics with Jug, you couldn't breathe properly through crying. Betty came over "the paramedic said one of us can go with him to the hospital," she said. You snapped out of your blank stir, "I'm going" you said pushing past them all. The whole ride there you sat watching the guy work on Jughead, at one stage he stopped breathing and they needed to resuscitate him. You went numb, your body shaking as you mumble "please don't die" over and over to yourself the sound burly audible.
Once you arrived at the hospital they wheeled Jughead through the hospital as you followed gripping tight to his beanie, you didn't even know when or where you picked it up. Nurses had been talking to you but you didn't really hear, some things you nodded and shook your head too mainly are you okay and is there anyone we can call. You had stayed outside the door they rolled Jughead into but wouldn't let you follow.
It had been almost 3 hours since Jug was rushed into surgery, a nurse came out asking if you were his family. Before your brain had a chance to lie your head shook no. "I'm sorry I can't tell you anything right now until I've spoken with his next of kin," she said about to walk away. You grabbed her arm "no, you can't do that please you have to tell me if he's going to be okay please" you beg, the second you speak the tears start to fall again. "I'm sorry miss I can't tell you anything unless your family," she said a little bolder but still sensitive enough to try and not upset you anymore.
A gruff voice behind her calls out "I'm fp Jones, his father and this is y/n, his girlfriend" he said moving around to you placing his arms over your shoulder pulling you in close to comfort you. "please can you tell us how my son is doing" this time his voice shook as he spoke. The nurse gave a small smile "he's still in surgery and is in a critical condition but we're doing the best we can" she said before another head popped out the door calling her in. Not long after both you and for were shown to a room to wait for a doctor with any news. You'd sat in silence still sobbing as fp hugged you, his hand rubbing your back in an attempt to soothe you. Not long after some of your friends had come in the room to wait as well. Fp looked at everyone, Betty held Archie her face tear-stained, while Archie bit his nail, his eyes red. Finally, he looked down at you thankful you'd finally stopped crying but was still concerned about you.
Your hands were still gripped to his beanie shaking more, fp didn't need to be a mind reader to know you were thinking the worse. Clearing his throat he reached into his jeans pocket pulling out some money, "hey red, why don't you and Cooper go get us some drinks, I'm sure y/n could do with a coffee now I know I can" he said. Archie got up taking the money from fp, "don't rush" fp said low to him so you wouldn't hear. Archie nodded opening the door as him and Betty left. Part of you didn't really notice them get up and go but you'd heard the door open and close. "y/n" fp said low looking at you. "he'll be okay" he tries to say, "I know it's hard but we have to think of the positive side" he said this time with a little more meaning. You looked at him nodding, he smiled and kissed the top of your head.
A knock on the door made you look up at a man in a white coat walked in "are you Mr. Jones's family?" he asked. Both you and fp straightened up saying yes together. "well as you know the crash was pretty serious, Forsythe" the door said. "Jughead he prefers Jughead" you correct him knowing it's what Jughead would do. The doctor looked at you, probably feeling sorry for you, the state you looked "sorry Jughead has suffered internal bleeding, and he has also a punctured lung. Our team is still working on stabilizing him. Once we've done that we can assess the rest of the damage, things like broken bones, we know his arm is definitely broken but we want to also x-ray his leg too" as the doctor continues to list things written on his clipboard, your hope started to fade. Your grip on Fp tightens as the doctor started talking about the possibility of brain damage and other worries they have. When he left you looked at Fp your eyes filled with tears "they said he's critical! What if he dies? It's all my fault I texted him telling him to hurry!" you start but your breathing starts to become rapid. Fp knelt down on the floor grabbing your face "y/n look at me" he demanded "Jughead's strong, he'll fight this! This isn't your fault y/n and Jughead knows that. you have to stay strong y/n for him" he says trying you calm you.
Trying to distract yourself, you look up at him again "why did you tell that nurse I was Jugs girlfriend?" you ask. Fp raises an eyebrow at you "come on y/n don't act like it's not true. You two have liked each other since you were kids. I know Jughead better than he thinks and trust me when I say that boy is in love with you and It's obvious the way you feel for him otherwise you wouldn't be in the state you are now! You might be able to hide it from each other but to the rest of us looking in it's clear you're made for each other" he smiles. "and if I could choose anyone as a daughter in law it would be you y/n" he says as you hug him. His words meant more than anything to you since your father died Fp was the closest thing to a father figure you had. He always had a way to make you feel better, whether it's emotionally better by telling you things will be okay or help with things like school work or helping your mother with repairs around your house. He'd always been there for you.
When Archie and Betty come back they smile seeing you looking a little better and not the catatonic shell you were when they left. Betty handed you a coffee sitting back down next to Archie. Another hour or more passed, Kevin came in he'd been speaking with his father. He'd found out the driver who'd hit Jughead had been drunk, his breathalyser had come back over the limit. Kevin then went on to say that his dad is waiting to arrest him once he'd been given the all clear to leave, after only suffering a few minor cuts and bruises. Fp jumped up fast heading for the door, everyone stood up all knowing he was going to find the driver. Archie and Kevin both tried to block the doors, "get out if the way!" fp roared at them. Both boys looked at each other Archie giving a shake of his head to Kevin. "what so you can find this driver?" Archie said, squaring his shoulders. "that bastard was drunk and put my son in the hospital. He gets to sit there with a few cuts while my son could die" fp shouted in a rage. "you'll get arrested too if you do" Kevin tried to reason. Fp looked at Kevin to say he didn't care about his dad "move now!" he said again.
This time you stepped towards him "please don't, Jughead needs you, I need you to be here please don't go" you said putting your hand on his arm. Fp looks down at you knowing if the worst did happen had Jughead did die, you'd be a mess. Growling loud he sat back down next to you, you smile a small thank you when the door opens. It had now been 13 hours since you'd arrived here still waiting for someone, Betty and Kevin had been to find a nurse an hour ago but couldn't find anything out. The doctor from earlier came in, a smile on his face. "it's good news Mr. Jones, we've stopped the bleeding and repaired his punctured lung. We've also put a cast on his foot and arm" he said as he double checked the notes. "when can we see him?" fp asked, the doctor looked around the room "I can take you there now but only two at a time can go in" he answered.
Everyone looked at you and fp no question of who the two would be. Betty stood up dragging Archie out of his seat too. "I'm so happy he's okay, I think Mr. Jones and y/n will want to go in do come Archie Kevin will come back tomorrow. If he wakes up, send him our love" she said hugging you before leaving with the boys. Kevin with his phone in his hand already texting Cheryl, Toni, and Veronica about Jughead's update. Once they left you looked back at the doctor "if you both follow me I'll take you to him but I have to warn you he's not awake yet and some of the equipment may look at little scary but I assure you that he will make a full recovery" he said leading you through the hospital.
The doctor wasn't lying the machines they had Jug hooked up looked terrifying. A tube down his throat and iv lines into his arms. You gasped at the sight, fp putting his hands on your shoulders leading you in "he'll be okay y/n" he whispered. The doctor and fp spoke most of it you didn't hear, instead, you sat next to Jughead's bed holding his hand willing his eyes to open. When the doctor left fp came over to the other side of Jughead's bed ruffling his hair "hey son, we're here" he said sadly. After that, the room fell silent the only sounds were bleeping from the heart monitor next to you.
Fp looked at the clock another 3 hours had passed and still no movement from Jughead. "y/n do you want" Fp stopped mid-sentence seeing you asleep, your head on the bed and your hand still wrapped tightly in Jugs. Standing up stretching out the stiffness of his body he came over placing his jacket over your body. He looked at the clock 16 hours they'd been at the hospital for, he was surprised you'd lasted that long awake. A nurse came in to do Jughead's obs, fp took the chance to get a drink. Fp stood next to the vending machine, his fist hit the wall as tears fell down his face. He'd kept strong the whole time for y/n, now she was asleep Fp let his emotions out a little. Fp sunk to the floor head in his hands sobbing, a group of people walked past him making fp stand up. Wiping his face he took a deep breath getting his drinks and heading back before ether Jughead or y/n woke without him.
As he comes to the door the nurse was walking out. "sorry" she smiled blushing, fp smiled back "hey, is there any way to tell when he'll wake up?" Fp asked her. She gave a bigger smile looking back into the room, fp followed her gaze to see Jughead eyes half open still sleepy looking down at a sleeping y/n. Fp stepped into the room "glad to see you in the land of the living" he smirked at his son. Jughead groaned trying to sit up a bit more "what happened" he said. Fp looked at him uneasy "what do you remember?" he sad back. Jughead rubbed his face thinking back. "I remember being at the Wyrm with everyone then leaving to meet y/n. A car was on the wrong side of the road, I tried to swerve out the way shutting my eyes on impact then waking up here" he finished.
Fp smiled at least Jug didn't have any memory loss. "yeah a drunk driver hit you, you got rushed into surgery" Fp said hugging Jug. Soon the topic changed from Jughead's injuries to y/n. "from what Betty said, she came in the ambulance with you, she was here when I got here begging a nurse to tell her how you were. Since then she's been in a state of worry, she thinks this was her fault, your accident. Oh by the way I kind of had to tell them she's your girlfriend, they wouldn't tell her anything or let her stay otherwise so play alone if anyone asks" Fp smirked. Jughead smiled at the idea of you being his girlfriend something he'd wanted for longer than he could remember. With his good hand, Jug moved some of your hair out of your face.
The tickle of his fingertips woke you up, your head whipped up to jug smiling at you "Hello sleeping beauty your finally with us" he joked "you're one to talk Mr. we've waited all day for you to get your lazy ass up" you joke back hugging him tightly. "how long was I asleep?" you ask fp. "about half an hour" he said a little disappointed, he'd hoped you'd sleep longer than that. A few minutes later a doctor walked in, at first he was surprised to see both you and fp sat there but smiled "I'm sorry but I'm afraid I'm gonna have to ask you both to leave while I examine Mr. Jones. You can come back in the morning" he added to the end when he saw the look on your face. "no please can I stay with him" you begged but the doctor shook his head "I'm afraid it's not allowed" he said as kindly as possible. "come on y/n I'll take you home you can sleep easy knowing Jughead's alright and I promise I'll bring you in first thing in the morning" he said. You looked at him defeated. Giving Jughead a hug maybe a little too tight making him wince you said you'd be back the second they'll let you, before turning and leaving with fp.
The next day you got up at 8 am calling fp to get up too so you could go to see Jughead. When you got there he'd just woken up himself feeling more painful today than he had last night. "you didn't have to come in this early" he laughed looking at the tired groggy look on his dad's face. You both sat down next to him, fp showing him the things he'd packed for him, including his laptop and mobile. You all spent the morning chatting when fp left to get some dinner from pops for you all. "so your message you said you wanted to talk to me! what was it?" he asked. Before the crash, you had all intention on telling him you loved him but now you were nervous and scared and had lost your bottle. "nothing it's not important I can tell you when you're out if here" you say hoping to deflect the subject. To your luck Archie, Betty Cheryl, and Toni came in, you all spent the day laughing cheering Jughead up. When it was time to go Fp took you home promising to take you back.
It was a week before they let Jughead come home, longer if the hospital had their way. Over the last 3 weeks, Everyday you went to the trailer to care for him, you'd help cook his and Fp's meals or bring takeout from pops, You'd tidy around the trailer and genuinely keeping Jughead company. The pair of you spent your days watching different movies laughing and joking and enjoying spending time together as you normally would. But being this close had its disadvantages, normally you could push down your feeling for the raven-haired boy but after seeing him almost die those feelings were stronger and harder to ignore. It didn't help the longing looks you both shared or the long touches that felt more than friendly, you wanted to believe what you felt jughead did too but to part of you didn't want a solid answer in case the answer was he didn't share your feelings.
Today was no different, you had both been sat curled up under a blanket watching so silly TV movie. Like all the other times in the last few days you looked at each other his thumb tracing circles on your arm, the feeling washed over you to kiss him. You stood up quick struggling to control your feelings, saying were about to start cooking now the movie ended when Jughead grabbed your arm, "y/n, the night of the crash" he said. Your heart started to pound, you knew this conversation would come up sooner or later. "Jug I can't remember what I wanted to say when I sent that text" you lied. Jughead rolled his eyes "that's not what I was going to say y/n. I was going to say I was speeding back to pops because there was something I wanted to tell you and if I don't say it now I don't think I'll find the courage again to say it" he rambled. You reached over and held his hand in yours. He looks you in the eyes smiling "y/n, I like you hell I think I love you and I have for a while now. Your my best friend and I..." Jughead started to lose his confidence, his words not finding the right meaning. He remembered what Toni told him about if he can't say it, Jughead land over his lips touching yours.
You couldn't believe it, you wanted to pinch yourself to make sure it was real. You didn't know what to do, feeling like one of those people on TV who'd won the jackpot and it hadn't sunk in yet. Jughead started to feel nervous you hadn't reacted to his kiss. "please say something!" he said searching your face for any clue to what you were thinking. Biting your lip you looked back at him "I lied to you before" you say. Jughead felt his heart shatter, he'd told you his feelings and you answer by saying you lied, not even acknowledging the words he'd said. Jughead wanted to run if his legs would let him. The touch of your hand broke him out of his panic, "I lied when I said I didn't remember what I wanted to tell you. I actually wanted a conversation similar to this only I wanted to tell you that I love you" you smile at him. He blushed with a smile "you love me?" he asked confirming you'd said what he heard. "yes Jug, I love.." you didn't finish, your words cut off when Jughead kissed you again. This time you kissed him back, your arms wrapped around him as you melted into his kiss. You were both so caught up in each other to notice the door open, a forced cough from Fp made you both jump. "finally glad to see something knocked some sense into the pair of you" Fp smirked more than happy to you together "however I have pops, y/n you staying for dinner I got enough for all of us" he smiled giving you a wink.
The next day Jughead had enough of being stuck in the trailer and wanted to get out. It was Thursday and classed and group day, at pops you helped him up the steps ready to walk through the door. He held your hand as you started walking to a booth at the back. Cheryl saw you both standing up, "my my my what do I spy with my little eye" she said pointing to your hands. Jughead smiled putting his arm around you "wait are two?" Toni asked with a knowing smirk, "yep, where the newest pair to rival choni as cutest couple in Riverdale" you laugh. Cheryl smirked "no one can rival Choni, but I have to admit your are cute and all it took was almost dying for you two to see what the rest of us have seen for years" she smiled. Jughead kissed the top of your head as pop came over taking your orders. You sat in Jugs arms, it was like nothing and everything had changed and all for the better.

The latest LeBron James debate isn’t about basketball. It’s about his parenting skills.
(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); “I needed to have children early,” LeBron James reported in 2018, “to prove to my father that the way you did it was the absolute completely wrong way to do it.” (Kathy Willens) Des Bieler Sporting activities reporter masking countrywide subjects, which include fantasy soccer, as perfectly as supporting protection of D.C.-location groups July 31 at 1:14 AM LeBron James is frequently the issue of intensive debate, but it is generally about irrespective of whether he is the finest basketball player of all time. Not long ago, while, vehement usually takes pertaining to the Los Angeles Lakers star have centered on a a great deal diverse question: Is he being a very good mother or father? James produced headlines for his conduct at his oldest son’s games during an AAU match in Las Vegas, exactly where he joined the youth league team’s pregame layup line to toss down monstrous dunks and celebrated with exuberance. At a person stage, James misplaced a shoe although operating onto the court in pleasure about a dunk by one of his son’s teammates. Some have witnessed these shows as reflective of admirable support for his son, 14-12 months-previous LeBron “Bronny” James Jr., and the other little ones on the staff. Other people have criticized the 4-time NBA MVP for what they see as interest-searching for methods at the expenditure of his little one, and for likely overboard in a way that would seem inappropriate for an regular dad or mum. Dior/Tezzo link knocked me out of my sneak! . Appreciate currently being all around my lil bros watching them participating in the game they adore. But for actual my shoe truly jump off my foot in excitement as effectively on that enjoy. https://t.co/ci2whLcXcA— LeBron James (@KingJames) July 28, 2019 Among the James’s sharpest critics — and not for the very first time — has been Jason Whitlock, host of Fox Sports activities 1′s Communicate for Your self. Describing James’s “antics” as “inappropriate,” he established a stir Monday by declaring of the viral clips from the AAU event, “Fame is a drug much more strong and hazardous than cocaine. LeBron is a fame and social media junkie.” “In his intellect, LeBron is producing fatherhood great and fun all over again. I disagree,” Whitlock stated. “LeBron is building a spectacle of himself, a circus of his son’s early actively playing times and making use of his son’s activity as still one more platform to build the LeBron social-media manufacturer.” Whitlock recalled a 2008 playoff recreation throughout which James’s mother, seated courtside, took exception to a hard foul. Whitlock noted that he defended James at the time for staying proven on Television telling his mother to “sit yo’ a– down.” “Gloria James necessary to control herself and perform herself with a dignity that positioned her son in the good mild,” Whitlock mentioned. “That’s what mothers and fathers, no subject how popular, ought to do. They should really not enable their thirst for fame to distract from or exaggerate their child’s performance. “LeBron desires to abide by information he gave his mother: Sit yo’ a– down.” Amid those who stood up for James was the Celtics’ Jayson Tatum, who responded to a different media figure, Kevin Clancy of Barstool Sports activities. “I gotta be honest if my son is at any time throwing down alley oops I will almost certainly shed my f—— brain,” Clancy experienced tweeted, sharing the clip of James’s shoe-shedding celebration. “But this is totally ridiculous. This is like, strange childlike conduct.” Tatum retweeted Clancy and wrote: “With so a lot of fathers not supporting there [sic] little ones we get upset mainly because he is genuinely joyful for his son! I simply cannot hold out till my son get more mature and I get to assistance him with whatever he desires to do!” An NFL player, Damon Harrison of the Detroit Lions, also chimed in Tuesday. “Lebron has established the typical this period for all fathers and even more so for black fathers. His son sees and feels the really like and aid from his dad,” he wrote on Twitter. “It’s never ever been viewed on this stage. They want to generate the ‘his father was not there’ story as an alternative of this just one. THIS is goals!” The point that LeBron getting an exuberant, included & supportive father is currently being employed as a cudgel in opposition to him is utter insanity and borderline infuriating.LeBron is obviously currently being the father he wished he experienced and his son, alongside with his son’s teammates, definitely love it. https://t.co/xtlwnFkASY— nick wright (@getnickwright) July 29, 2019 It is essentially doable for Lebron to be both of those a fantastic father & an insufferable egomaniac addicted to interest… it doesn’t have to be one or the other.— Justin Termine (@TermineRadio) July 31, 2019 James has spoken in the earlier about rising up without the need of a father and wanting to be intensely included in serving to shape the lives of his little ones, who also involve a 12-12 months-previous son, Bryce Maximus, and a 4-12 months-old daughter, Zhuri. “What definitely served me out, turning into a father or mother, is what I went by way of as a child, not having a father. … I wished to have young children early, to demonstrate to my father that the way you did it was the complete mistaken way to do it, and I required to break the mildew to the place I want to be there and give them all the lifetime capabilities,” James said in a 2018 discussion with Kevin Durant. On his HBO show, “The Store,” James explained in 2018 that he regretted giving Bronny, a remarkably regarded basketball prospect, his title mainly because of pressure his kid could possibly feel to live up to live up to his normal. “When I was youthful, I did not have a father,” James stated. “So my complete point was like, ‘Whenever I have a child, not only is he going to be a Jr., I’m likely to do every little thing that this guy didn’t do.’ They’re going to experience issues that I did not experience — the only thing that I can do is give them the blueprint, and it’s up to them to consider their have system, whenever that time comes.” Fathers have been paying out time with their young ones and celebrating their successes for hundreds of years without the need of dunking in layup lines and leaping on and off the courtroom. There’s a wide center ground you are missing. https://t.co/5CTrUPaqOt— Jason Whitlock (@WhitlockJason) July 30, 2019 Between individuals responding to Whitlock’s criticism of James was previous NFL player Nate Burleson, now a CBS Sporting activities and NFL Community analyst. “If I’m at [a] tennis match, if I’m at a basketball game, soccer game, observe fulfill, I’m gonna get up and show out for my young children, because I want them to glimpse up into the stands and see me — ‘My daddy is listed here and he’s present,’ ” said Burleson, who mentioned that he had three children. “And I want them to really feel that strength. “As prolonged as I’m not becoming disrespectful to the man or woman subsequent to me or the opposing staff, I’m great. And really don’t say it’s disrespectful due to the fact his son is great and LeBron is screaming. No, that is referred to as love and delight.” He then continued: “I didn’t even mention the fact that there are so numerous young African American boys and girls that appear up in the stands and see no one. Days of Our Lives will live to see another day!
The long-running NBC daytime soap will be renewed for a 56th season, Entertainment Weekly reported on Thursday. NBC declined to comment when reached by PEOPLE.
The cast was reportedly told of the renewal by a Corday Productions executive on Thursday, EW said, with production resuming in January after a year-end break. The 55th season of DOOL wraps production at the end of this month.
Last week, TVLine reported that all of the actors had been let out of their contracts and that the show was going on an “indefinite hiatus” at the end of November — but a source told PEOPLE at the time that the report was “a clickbait story” and that it was likely that the soap would continue.
“The show shoots months and months in advance and they’ve gotten so far ahead that the cast was prepared ages ago for the fact that they would all be put on hiatus until closer to pick-up (aka renewal) time, for scheduling reasons,” the source said.
RELATED: Days of Our Lives Put on Hiatus — But Source Says Soap Will ‘Almost Definitely Get Renewed’
“The show will almost definitely get renewed and this was not news to literally anyone on the show, nor is anyone truly concerned,” the source added.
The news of the renewal comes one day after the announcement of a new digital series, titled Last Blast Reunion.
The digital series will see nine cast members from the 2000 season of DOOL reunite, including Brandon Beemer (Shawn Brady), Martha Madison (Belle Black), Heather Lindell (Jan Spears), Aaron Van Wagner (Jason Welles), Nadia Bjorlin (Chloe Lane) and Lindsay Hollistar (Susan Adamson).
Chadwick Hopson will play Kevin Lambert, originally played by Brett Lawrence and Robert Benvenisti, while Teressa Liane will play Mimi Lockhart, who was played in the broadcast series by Farah Fath.

Each episode of Last Blast Reunion will be between seven and 10 minutes long, and it will premiere Nov. 29, on The DOOL App. New episodes will be released every Thursday for the following seven weeks.
DOOL has aired nearly every weekday since November 8, 1965, making it one of the longest-running scripted television programs in the world.
Some of DOOL’s most memorable cast members include John Aniston, Susan Seaforth Hayes, Suzanne Rogers, Deidre Hall, Eileen Davidson, Alison Sweeney, Bill Hayes and Chrishell Hartley.
Days of Our Lives airs weekdays on NBC (check local listings).

The Ultimate Christmas Movie List!
New Post has been published on https://www.vivrelereve.co.uk/untitled/
The Ultimate Christmas Movie List!
It’s that time of the year again. Merrymaking, friends, family, gift giving, eating and drinking – Christmas is most definitely upon us.
Christmas movies are a fun way to get in the Christmas spirit! Enjoy the best Christmas movies in no particular order, from old school classics like Miracle on 34th Street and It’s a Wonderful Life, to newer favorites like Elf and Arthur Christmas, for a festive evening at home.
I’ll admit, I also have that Christmas 24 TV channel on all the time over Christmas. I have a love for cheesy, predictable, cheaply made Hallmark Christmas movies. You know the ones where the two main characters find true love through a series of Christmas related mishaps? Usually involving a cute kid and the real father Christmas. Perfection.
The Ultimate Christmas Movie List:
The Muppet Christmas Carol (1992)
The Ultimate Christmas Movie List!
I am not exaggerating when I state that this is the best Christmas movie of all time! This is all despite some of the worst on screen singing in a musical of all time by Michael Caine – and some of the cheesiest song lyrics ever to grace our ears.
This movie is a masterpiece that celebrates a classic Charles Dickens tale, Christmas and Fun. It combines masterful storytelling with world class humour – with just a dash of pantomime fun.
Everyone needs to see this movie at least once in their lives. But you should preferably watch it once a year at Christmas, whilst snuggled up with loved ones and friends.
Polar Express (2004)
The Ultimate Christmas Movie List!
A modern yet retro take on the Christmas theme. The ideals and hopes of one young boy with new acquaintances and friends, are all express-bound for the North pole on Christmas Eve. An almost ethereal town-scene is created as Santa and his elves bring a certain rational to the festive gift-giving extravaganza. A real North Pole community, a real Santa and real helpers assist the film to appeal to both old and young alike. Most of the characters learn something about themselves on this journey north, largely courtesy of Tom Hanks’ ticket collector but in the end the festive feeling of warmth and goodwill rounds off a quite delightful film.
Mickey’s Christmas Carol (1983)
The Ultimate Christmas Movie List!
An excellent re-telling of the Dickens’ classic. Also a wonderful reunion of classic Disney friends who have not appeared on the screen in a very long time. Characters from “Ichabod and Mr. Toad” appear in here (including Mr. Toad himself as Fezziwig) and of course, the original classic Disney villain, Pegleg Pete, take a terrific turn as the Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come. The Giant from Mickey & The Beanstalk is here as the Ghost of Christmas Present. Jiminy Cricket as the Ghost of Christmas Past. Goofy as Jacob Marley. The list of classic characters just goes on and on.
Home Alone (1990)
The Ultimate Christmas Movie List!
Introduce your kids early to the ‘Home Alone’ movie, and I can almost guarantee they will love it. More over, it will become a Christmas tradition in your home for years to come.
Macaulay Culkin stars as Kevin, a young lad who feels like a fish out of water in a family who doesn’t treat him with any respect. This Christmas, he is accidentally left behind while his family flies to France on holiday. He isn’t all that upset about that, and enjoys all the trappings of being able to do what he likes in the house all by himself. However, he finds himself having to defend his home against a pair of idiotic burglars. Laughs and action in equal measure are ensured.
Christmas with the Kranks (2004)
The Ultimate Christmas Movie List!
This is one of those films that divides opinions. For some it’s rubbish, for others it’s a masterpiece. In my household the Christmas season doesn’t truly start without having watched Christmas with the Kranks. It’s a fun movie about a couple trying to skip Christmas because their daughter has gone to join the peace corps, but the only problem is they are from a very traditional christmassy neighbourhood, who are adamant they will follow the Christmas traditions i.e. putting up frosty the snowman. Great fun, never seems to get old (we’ve watched it for over 10 years now) and full of true christmassy spirit! We absolutely love it!
Home Alone 2 (1992)
The Ultimate Christmas Movie List!
‘Home Alone 2’ is an exception in the movie world, it’s one of those sequels that is every bit as good as the first, if not better.
The quite brilliant Macaulay Culkin reprises his role as Kelvin, whose family, as strange as it might seem, somehow manage to leave him ‘alone’. He makes it to the airport this time, but whilst his family hop on the plane to their holiday in Miami, Kevin takes the wrong plane to New York City. Of course, the resourceful kid ends up having the time of his life in the big apple, but there are lots of twists, turns and adventures along the way. The rest of the main original cast are also in here, including the hapless bandits who have escaped from jail, as well as a wonderful part for Tim Curry as a hotel manager.
It’s funny throughout, particularly heart-warming towards the end, and just good fun. As the second doesn’t follow on from the first, you can jump straight in and watch it without seeing ‘Home Alone’, but I can almost guarantee that you’ll want to watch it more than once.
Elf (2003)
The Ultimate Christmas Movie List!
Ferrell starts as Buddy, the ‘elf’ of the title, a baby mistakenly taken to the north pole and raised along with the rest of Santa’s elven helpers. As he grows up he can’t understand why he towers 4 feet over all the other elves, or why he doesn’t have pointed ears? Eventually, he learns of his origins and sets off to the big city to find his real father.
Once there, he becomes comically confused by the modern day interpretation of Christmas and starts to despair when the true spirit of Christmas seems to be lost. Think of this film as a cross between Dudley Moore’s ‘Santa Claus The Movie’ and Steve Martins ‘The Jerk’ and you will get the idea. Most of the fun in this film comes from Ferrell’s charming and at the same time manic performance, and he clearly carries the whole film, although the supporting cast are also strong.
A wonderful family film, this is one the most delightful Christmas films ever made!
Arthur Christmas (2011)
The Ultimate Christmas Movie List!
The plot centres around the dysfunctional Claus family – three generations of them, anyway – each beset by their own insecurities, age-related issues and family disputes, apart from the family matriarch, a kind of Christmas Wonder-Woman, clad in plaid sweaters and capable of phenomenal technical feats and knowledge.
Comparisons with that other animated Christmas features are inevitable, but where that was almost industrial in its portrayal of the Christmas concept, Arthur Christmas is delightfully cheeky and very British. Laughs abound, with a lot of fun being poked at Sat Navs, bright children, discordant family Christmas dinners, youthful enthusiasm and board games but, working on several levels, the film also examines frustrated ambition, competitive families and misguided motivations. It’s rare, but this film pulls off the trick of appealing to all ages yet avoiding sentimentality.
Miracle on 34th street (1994)
The Ultimate Christmas Movie List!
Out of all the films which have a Santa in them, I have to say that this is probably the best. The story is basically this; Kris Kringle is the department Santa at ‘Cole’s’ and when rival toy stores realise that they are losing business, they set about trying to get rid of what they consider to be, an old loony who claims that he is Santa. But they are very wrong.
The plot of the whole film is great, the acting can’t be faulted, especially from Richard Attenbourgh who plays the role of Santa very convincingly. If you are looking for a nice festive film that you can warm to immediately, and that the whole family can enjoy, then this is the film for you.
National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation (1989)
The Ultimate Christmas Movie List!
For those of you who are unfamiliar with the Griswolds, Clark is food additives expert who works for a company that doesn’t appreciate him. He sets high standards for holiday events that no one can live up to and is notorious for dragging his grudging family along on every painstaking detail of every scheme.
But now Clark just wants to stay at home in the snowy Chicago suburbs for a ‘fun, old-fashioned, family Christmas’ and he’s going to let nothing stop him. His enthusiasm for the holidays manages to infect the audience and you’ll be rooting for him the whole way. He’s an anti-Scrooge and if you’re having a Christmas crisis then you need to watch this movie. Any disasters can be overcome.
But that’s easier said than done. He didn’t bargain on bickering family members, a house covered in non-working Christmas lights, a seriously over-cooked turkey, snotty neighbors making fun of him or Cousin Eddie and his family turning up unannounced to sponge some Christmas cheer off him. This movie has become a Yuletide classic in this house and must be watched every year. Since Christmas is full of annual traditions this film is definitely one you should add to the list.
All 3 Tim Allen Santa Clause Movies (1994, 2002 & 2006)
The Ultimate Christmas Movie List!
There are some movies that just have to be watched every Christmas, and this is one of them. It is a feelgood film for a feelgood time of year. The story is simple. Scott Calvin (note his initials) is a divorced father who frequently lets his young son down due to his busy working life. That is until he accidentally kills Santa Claus. To his disbelief and dismay, and his sons delight, he has to become the new Santa. The film follows his changing life and attitudes and shows the newly developing relationship between father and son. There is nothing taxing or complex about this movie, just a heartwarming, funny story that is ideal for all the family. Watch and enjoy.
How the Grinch Stole Christmas (2000)
The Ultimate Christmas Movie List!
Jim Carrey stars as the onion eating Grinch, who resides upon mount crumpet. Who’s contempt for the happy-go-lucky people of Who-ville has made his heart 2 sizes too small. When he decides to sabotage Christmas for all the residents of Whoville he comes upon little Cindy-lou Who, who teaches him the value of Christmas and family gatherings etc. As the story unravels you find out why his heart is undersized, and why he shuts himself off from Whoville. Anthony Hopkins narrates. An all round feel good comedy, suitable for all ages.
Jingle All The Way (1996)
The Ultimate Christmas Movie List!
Who would have thought one of the greatest action hero’s of the cinema, would be in a Christmas kids film, about a father trying to get his son a turbo man doll for Christmas? Arnold Schwarzenegger plays Howard a man on a mission to get his son the present he has always wanted, TURBO MAN! Still even though it’s a kids film that doesn’t mean there is no action. It has comedy, action, happiness and a great level of Christmas fun.
Santa Paws 1 & 2 (2010 & 2012)
The Ultimate Christmas Movie List!
It’s Disney, it’s got Santa Claus and talking dogs so how could it not be great family entertainment? Yes small children get locked in the basement by the wicked witch type character and yes Santa does appear to be on his deathbed but everything is made right in the end by love and the magic of Christmas, that’s what its all about. The movies tell a timeless story about love and Christmas in an enjoyable way and it’s great fun.
Rise of the Guardians (2012)
The Ultimate Christmas Movie List!
This is a wonderful story for the whole family. It’s brilliant from the word go, just one word of warning, really young children might get a bit scared of the baddie! What makes Rise of the Guardians such a fun movie to watch is that it has the same story concept that made Marvel’s The Avengers fantastic. Team up all your favorite heroes against a common enemy, in this case it’s not against the God of Mischief, but rather the Boogie Man himself.
We have all watched Santa and Easter Bunny movies, but when have we ever seen them teamed up? The Guardians are a super hero team comprised with unique team members with specific skill sets. Sandy (The Sandman) has an intense, almost Japanese anime style, battle with Pitch using the powers of his shape shifting sand. E. Aster Bunnymund (The Easter Bunny) has an Australian accent and duel wields boomerangs that he accurately blasts demon nightmare horses. North is a warrior armed with two cutlass swords and drives a sleigh. Guardians may not have Joss Weadon writing and directing the movie, it does have the vision of Guillermo del Toro (Hellboy franchise/Pan’s Labyrinth/Book of Life) as the film’s executive producer.
It’s A Wonderful Life (1946)
The Ultimate Christmas Movie List!
Frank Capra’s seasonal classic originally began life as a Christmas card and amazingly was a big flop at the time of it’s release. It was only through television showings that it became one of the best loved movies of all time. Strangely enough for a movie which turns up most Christmases. It’s actually a quite dark movie taking in despair and suicide.
James Stewart was born to play George Bailey and Donna Reed is beautiful as his wife and then there’s Henry Travers, unforgettable as Clarence the guardian angel. Sentimental without being slushy this is a movie that demands you feel good having watched it. An essential part of Christmas. Every time a bell rings an angel gets his wings!
Scrooged (1988)
The Ultimate Christmas Movie List!
I watch this movie several times each year, starting about October time and finishing with a Christmas eve viewing! Its an excellent, entertaining, funny, emotional and heart-warming version of A Christmas Carol. The ending scene and end-title soundtrack never fail to bring a tear to the eye and a warm fuzzy feeling. Light those candles, pour the mulled wine and enjoy!
The Holiday (2006)
The Ultimate Christmas Movie List!
A romantic comedy set in two locations; Surrey, England and L.A, USA. When Amanda breaks up with her cheating boyfriend, she decides she needs to get away from it all so she searches online for ‘vacation hotspots’. While trawling through the internet, she comes across a House Exchange. Where she meets Iris, a writer for who also wants to get away from it all. The two decide to swap houses for two weeks, so Iris jets off to L.A while Amanda is stuck in Snowy Surrey. All in all a definite must have in your movie collection.
Meet Me In St. Louis (1944)
The Ultimate Christmas Movie List!
One of those nearly perfect movies: a film musical that incorporates its story and songs seamlessly. Featuring a cast of superb performers and all the technical ‘know how’ that Old Hollywood was so great at. Recreating a world gone by that the movie audience could step right into, in this case 1903/04 St. Louis, Missouri. Judy Garland added to her immortality with this portrayal of a young woman in love with ‘The Boy Next Door’. A family comedy/drama with dark overtones, this beautiful Technicolor musical is one of the great classics of Hollywood’s Golden Age.
The Family Man (2000)
The Ultimate Christmas Movie List!
One of Nicolas Cage’s best performances. The Family Man is just great entertainment. Cage plays Jack Campbell who is a wheeler-dealer on Wall Street, wealthy, womanizer who loves his Ferrari! One night he says the wrong thing to an angel. Who decides to give him a glimpse of what his life could have been had he made a different choice. He wakes up the next morning in the arms of Kate and two adorable children! There are so many laugh-out-loud moments, as well as moments that will bring you to tears, and an ending that doesn’t spoon feed you an answer.
Trading Places (1983)
The Ultimate Christmas Movie List!
Mark Twain’s The Prince and the Pauper has seen many incarnations from Disney to The Simpsons. But none have been as funny as Trading Places. Which proves just how funny Dan Ackroyd and Eddie Murphy used to be.
Louise Winthorpe III is a spoiled, snobby managing director at the Duke & Duke commodities brokerage. Billy Ray Valentine is a poverty-stricken street hustler. Randolph Duke makes a wager with his brother Mortimer that the men can be successfully swapped. The con is on as Valentine is plucked from the streets and Winthorpe is ungraciously dumped on them. There’s loads of fun watching him hit absolute rock bottom while Valentine quickly becomes spoiled and snobby himself.
Who cannot resist Eddie Murphy’s foreign exchange student disguise or Ackroyd’s Lionel Josef. Even the gorilla in the train is a brilliant character. For those of you who love dark, cruel comedies Trading Places is utterly essential. It may be very 80s, but it never gets old.
Gremlins (1984)
The Ultimate Christmas Movie List!
Gremlins is one of those fantastic Christmas films that can be watched anytime. But has an added magic when watched during the Christmas season. It’s a film that nearly everyone has seen and so unites the land in the knowledge that a gremlin can only survive for so long in a microwave. The film is playful and fun, so as a child I loved it. It courted controversy when it first came out but it is essentially a family comedy and the violence is basically cartoon style and adds to the general naughtiness of the film.
The film was a marketing success with the cute Gizmo and a few Gremlins with distinct individuality. The humour of the film was typical of the emerging comedy-horror genre of the 80s. With other blockbusters such as Beetlejuice, Critters and Ghostbusters. The film was always going to be a success and a family favourite.
