(Specifically this recent post I saw)

Okay so let’s be real if these four were a bending team they’d be crazy unstoppable.

Suki - Earth (that just feels right, I mean she is a Kioshi warrior)

Sokka - Man’s gotta be water (it makes the most sense genetically (yes I know that it’s kinda technically not genetic but…) since Katara is his sister and taking in his personality Sokka would be one of the craftiest water benders out there)

Mai - Fire (She kinda got saddled with this one out of process of elimination by I still would love to see her use lightning. Lightning does require a calm mind to separate Positive and Negative energy and I think that Mai would be perfect for it (even more that other canonical lightning benders))

Ty Lee - Air obviously (Not only do a few people on the internet theorize that Ty Lee descends from Air Nomads (looking at you film theory) she also has strong evidence to support this. Such as her fighting style being passive and about disarming opponents. Plus she’s look cute in pink and orange)

on the one hand, suki has peak weird girl energy and I fell in love with her immediately. On the other hand THEY GOT RID OF SOKKA DRESSING UP AS A KIOSHI WARRIOR AND KISSING SUKI IN DRAG???? THIS SENSORSHIP SHOULD BE A PUNISHABLE WARCRIME AGAINST ALL QUEER PEOPLE AND ME PERSONALLY

On that note: Yua also likes ceremonial and decorative weapons as gifts. Iroh gave her a set of Kioshi Warrior fans for her birthday one year and she treasures them greatly. It helps that she's kind of in love with the Kyoshi Warriors.

Oh, and cute hair chopsticks. She loves those too.

The whole point of Sokka’s sexism is for him to GROW AS A PERSON AHSGEVEEYY.

He starts out as literally the only man in the southern water tribe, a tribe in which most, if not all the men, are warriors and passed. Him being sexist MAKES SENSE because he has high expectations for himself as the only man/boy in the tribe, and the women were expected to stay at home.

But as he travels and meets new people like Yue, Suki, Azula/Mai/Ty Lee, even his own fucking sister, he learns that he doesn’t have to do everything by himself, he can accept help from women around him, and that women are much stronger than he previously thought.

WHY WOULD THEY CHANGE THAT

Someone said writers didn’t want put Sokka in the Kioshi warrior outfit which probably false but also cowards

ALSO Sokka being sexist is the least problematic thing in show.

God help us if they nerf Toph or Azula

i havent watched the new atla show, but the reports of sanding off sokka's sexism stood out to me.

in the animated series, we see young Katara encounter the man who would kill her mother. she is helpless, and can only run for help (which is very brave for a young girl iirc). The fire nation leaves and her mother is dead. It is a clear motivation, Katara must be stronger and will not ever be helpless again.

It is not shown how this affects young sokka. Young Sokka fights with the men to protect the village. Suddenly its over and he then sees all the men sail off to war, and knows thar they might not come back. His mother is dead, his reaction is not shown. except by his fierce protection of Katara and his tribe (first meeting aang, His anger when Aang sets off the boobytraped ship, his absolute FURY when Aang accidentally burns Katara)

Katara has the older women, the mothers. They are there to impart their wisdow upon Katara. They can't teach her waterbending, but at least they can impart the rest.

Sokka is now the last warrior of the village. He is the only one that knows the combat rituals. He is the lone protector of his people's martial legacy. He's also completely and utterly alone. There is now noone to teach Sokka how to Properly be a man. How to wield strength, and what being strong means.

There are also no girls his age on the south pole.

When this untrained lout of a warrior encounters the Kioshi warriors for the first time, he gets captured and humiliated, badly. By "a bunch of girls".

And then something incredible happens. He seeks forgiveness and a way to be taught. This boy, without proper guidance or rolemodels, is HUMBLE. he (begrudgingly) wears the flowing dress and facepaint and picks up the Kioshi technique FAST. Fast enough to hold off Zuko.

Later he is allowed to train with a Swordmaster that sees through Sokka in an instant. And Sokka is once again humble, and is allowed to train with the master where others very much weren't.

Sokka is intelligent, quick witted and tactical. His growth underlines that. Taking away his initial hubris removes the contrasting humbleness that allowed him to grow. To become not only a martial weapons expert, a quick witted strategist but also a charismatic leader (as shown in Legend of Korra).

In short, a stupid decision.

The fact that there isnt a single wlw ship with Toph in it is insulting, that girl is a lesbian, she gives big lesbian energy, why is no one shipping her with someone, shes precious.

imo Toph would date Suki AND Katara, yes, both, she has two hands.
