One Piece chapter 1111 review

Last one going into another long break. Potentially but not definitely the end of volume 109. And I think a shift into the final bit of action for the Egghead Arc. While I'm disappointed to have to go three weeks without, I definitely prefer Oda getting the downtime he needs to carry the story through to its end inn the best way possible. And the phrase "scheduled maintenance" in the announcement makes me think this is going to end up being an annual thing, which at least means it won't be a surprise in future years.

We do at least get some gorgeous colour pages for a send-off. The classic piratey vibe of the Jump cover has a whole lot of appeal while the colour spread has some gorgeous lighting for Copic work. The transparency on the jellyfish is stunning. There's cute symbolism in giving Kuma a seahorse shirt, perfect for the series' most dedicated single dad. Bonney and Vegapunk getting to be included is also a good touch, Always nice when current arc characters get to hang out with the crew on these things. I also really like the One Piece logo down the bottom with the jellyfish top and tentacles around the O.

Mars breaks inside the barrier. I initially thought he'd was rebuffed by the lasers last week, but I should have known he'd be able to use his immortality to power through undaunted. And that makes the situation really bad for the crew.

The apparent lack of concern the Strawhats have for Vegapunk's broadcast is interesting. I actually had to go back and double check if they even knew it was happening at all. They do, but it still doesn't really seem to concern them. Escape has become the most important thing, and though I'm sure they'd stand and fight if one of the surviving Vegapunks said it was their greatest dream and the Stella's dying wish to make sure it goes through, but even they seem to be putting their lives first. It's actually kind of funny the number of people complaining last week about Oda using the 'ticking clock' trope in yet another arc, only for the crew to just outright ignore it and continue with their original plan of escaping. All this plus the escape map to lay out the distances and groups involved paint a picture of how the final stage of the arc is likely to play out.

This is an interesting chapter for Lucci. Obviously a commanding show of strength to stay standing after Zoro's big hit and then to remain conscious and clear-headed after Jinbei's subsequent blast, but also to call Kaku his partner and beg for his life to the ultimate authority of the Five Elders. Remember, in Lucci's eyes 'gods are not bound by logic' and 'it is the natural order for gods to have whatever they desire' (chapter 907). He also showed an extreme callousness toward any team member he thought wasn't performing up to par at Water Seven, like the potentially now-dead Nero. To make the request at all, to a man whose desires and whims have complete priority, speaks to a kind of camaraderie I never would have figured he had in him. At some point I'll have to go back over Water Seven properly and see if there's anything that can be interpreted differently with this side of him in mind.

Lucci also looks absolutely terrified when Mars appears, but he immediately recognises the Elder even in his monstrous form and doesn't hesitate to obey. We were told before that anyone below the rank of commodore can't even meet them, but it wasn't clear how much of a secret their specific powers were. York's reaction at the end of the chapter shows that she wasn't aware of the demon forms, despite the Vegapunks having had audiences with the Elders.

The Haki roar is a cool show of power. I'm looking forward to learning more about the limits of the physical effects of Conqueror's Haki and how much they can be controlled. I also loved the visual gag of all of Luffy's stuff blowing off, seeing him stick his scars back on. Amazing comic instincts on that one.

I think one of the big important things to remember for Luffy's characterisation in this chapter is the way the giants talk both with him and about him to Warcurcy. They say that he looks like the god they've heard tales of, but when Warcury asks who Luffy is to them, the only important part is that Luffy is their friend. And we learn concretely that it wasn't even the Nika appearance that inspired them to come intervene, they just saw that he seemed like he was in trouble in a place they were close enough to. Luffy isn't the messiah of the giants (at least not yet), just a guy who makes the right friends.

I try not to dwell on spoilers without the full story, but they definitely coloured my perception of this chapter's baseball bat gag. When I read that Luffy 'conjures' a bat, I was extremely worried. I have raged against the perception that Luffy's new power is literal imagination and that he can magic things into existence or warp reality in any tangible way. I would not want that to be the way the story progresses. Imagine my relief when the outcome is only as absurd as turning a palm tree into a bat with his teeth. I could take or leave the paint and hat. They only interact with Luffy himself and are gone in less than a page, so I can take them as part of the bit. The paint in particular is funny because to leaves the bat looking exactly the same as if it had a layer of Armament Haki (at least as far as Haki is portrayed to the readers). That's like the one part Luffy could have just manifested through willpower and he finds paint instead.

I expected more emphasis to be placed on Ju Peter's revival, but he's just kind of there after the explosion. Do we think the original head reattached to his body, or did he grow a new one? Maybe Oda's saving that reveal for later, when we go further into what the Elders really are.

As much as I want to see Franky get some action, I think the three vice admirals are setting up a Kuma moment, probably his big finale for the arc, whether it's a full awakening or death, or taking his daughter and teleporting away. Borsalino seems to be out for good, understandably overwhelmed by his emotional distress. I wonder if there'll be a tangible difference in the next fight against him, if it happens in a scenario where his heart can truly be in it. And then the robot, with that big, important Joyboy connection promising big things to come. I wonder, if the Strawhats are being characterised as unconcerned with Vegapunk's broadcast, if the robot will then be the force that makes sure it plays in full. Or is there some kind of twist coming about the broadcast's source that we haven't considered yet. Mars asks York about the room Vegapunk is in, as if he thinks the broadcast is actually live. Saturn only said to the other Elders that he thinks Borsalino killed Vegapunk, so they may be operating on the assumption he's somewhere else, especially if the technology to record and repeat a message via snails is not widespread.

But these are questions for three weeks from now. Meantime, I hope Oda enjoys his rest and processes everything he needs to process about Toriyama and comes back to the series refreshed for the home stretch of the arc.

Assault after assault wore on as Rowena and the Kid Pirates fought against Bartholomew Kuma and the never-ending waves of Marines flooding the field; Kuma’s monstrous strength and resilience was taking a toll on the fighters.

Rowena shouted out in anger, “I can’t keep wasting time like this, I have to get back to my crew!”

“Well unless you have any other moves up your sleeves now is the time. If this giant fuck takes us down, I’m making sure you come down with us,” Kid yelled at her, waving his giant metal arm down on another onslaught of marines.

“How much time can you buy me?”

“How much do you need?”

“2 minutes, 3 tops.”

“What’s the plan?”

“I do something awesome and then we run like hell”

Grinning evilly Kid barked out, “men, defend the broad and make sure no one gets through!”

“Great, on my signal run behind me and stay inside the circle!”

“What’s the signal? What circle?!”

Rowena didn’t answer as she pulled a burlap sack from the bag hanging loosely around her waist, spilling the white substance down on the ground and running in a huge circle. Once a giant circle was formed, she hopped inside and sat on the ground at the edge of the line. She closed her eyes and started muttering something quickly under her breath accompanied by a flurry of hand sign movements.

Kid couldn’t follow them fast enough, torn between wanting to watch out of sheer fascination but also busy trying to keep the Marines and a Warlord at bay. His patience quickly started to wane and just as he was turning to demand an update, he heard her voice rise above the clashing of weapons and the screams of dying men.

“Run, Red!”

“Let’s go boys” Kid roared, and Killer and the crew came running to the circle jumping inside and standing behind Rowena.

She opened her eyes slamming her hand down to the ground, screaming out “Summoning Spell – Demonic Bloodlust!” and a large, black hand-shaped shadow appeared on the ground just beyond the circle boundaries, complex runes and characters magically etching themselves into the shadow hand, and it grew larger as it seemingly reached out towards the incoming Marines.

The pointed fingers turned to tendrils that reached out at Kuma and the Marines as an unholy wailing began to emit from the ground. Swooping and swooshing sounds rushed the air as dark forms started whipping out from the still expanding hand shape. The formless shapes snarled and snapped, taking down Marines in a frenzy, blood splattering on the ground. The pirates watched with a mix of horror and amazement at the small woman’s power.

“Hold out your hands and take this salt. As soon as you step over the line, throw the salt over your left shoulder and don’t stop running,” she quickly explained dumping the substance into outstretched hands. She grabbed a handful for herself and with one hand shoved the burlap sack back into her bag.

“Where are you running off to?” Kid grabbed her shoulder tightly but she shrugged him off.

“Grove 13. Don’t get caught,” Rowena gave Kid a look before taking a running leap over the line, tossing her salt behind her.

“SEE YA!” she yelled back at the Kid Pirates, a dazzling grin plastered to her face, waving a hand back at them as she whipped her head forward and took off running.

Episode 2 Fusion Awaken

Sea of Japan

Two submarines, known as Sea King 1 and Sea King2, had just arrived near the Sea of Japan. As the two subs arrived, the Sea's currents were shown to be mysteriously rising in temperature, causing the area's sea ice to melt and break up. "Sea King 1, this is Sea King 2, do you copy?" said the pilot of the Sea King 2. "This is Sea King 1, Over," said the pilot of Sea King 1. "There's an abnormal temperature rise around these waters; most of the icebergs are melting; we better keep an eye out," said the pilot. "Rodger, keep your freezer torpedoes ready," said the other Pilot. 

However, while they continued on Sea King 2, one managed to spot something. "Sea King 2, there's a strange light emanating from a large iceberg," said the pilot. He wasn't wrong; the iceberg in question was glowing a neon blue coloration. "We better get a closer look," the pilot in Sea King 1. "Be careful," the pilot in Sea King 2. Unfortunately, despite the warning, Sea Dragon 1 gets too close and collides with the iceberg! As the sub's radiation then proceeds to leak out, something bursts right out from the bottom of the large chunk of ice. It was a massive, clawed hand, and it grabs at the sub! "SEA KING 1! What's going on!?!" said the pilot of SEA KING 2. There was no answer, only an explosion near the iceberg. "Oh no!" said the pilot. The iceberg began to rumble and cracked all over. Suddenly there was a massive explosion that destroyed the iceberg and a haunting roar that echoed from it. A Sea Dragon was free from his prison of 900 years and had spotted the other sub attempting to flee. Unfortunately, the Sea Dragon lunges at the remaining sub and destroys it for its energy.  Yes...it was finally time. When the Sea Dragon was buried under the ice 900 years ago, they all expected the cold-blooded beast would freeze to death. No one could have suspected that the monster would hibernate...For 900 years, the Sea Dragon remained in suspended animation until the submarine woke it up. Now good to See Dragon was back. He first went to an Arctic military base and began to attack the base, killing many innocent people. The Sea Dragon made short work of the base, and now he was headed for Japan! 

News of this sea dragon monster reached Japan. He would inevitably come; however, being frozen in ice for so long, he could not move as fast until his body temperature warmed up again. Japan had time...But that didn't change the fact that this Sea Dragon was back again, and the news spread like wildfire on the Sea Dragon return, and it had also reached the commander of the JDF (Japanese Defense Force). "Sir. This creature is heading right towards Tokyo Bay," said the commander. "I must send out a warning to the others!"

Tokyo Bay

The Sea Dragon was causing quite a stir in Tokyo Bay. The Sea Dragon fired his deadly ice beam, freezing and destroying several buildings. News of the monster's attacks soon reached the Japanese Defense Force, who immediately began to plan their assault.  However, the military was no match for his power as Sea Dragon unleashed another of his hidden powers, a bolt of lightning attacking multiple tanks and jets and proceeded to gobble up 60% of the soldiers. As the Sea Dragon continued his rampage, he then sensed something not too far from where he was. It was something big and just as powerful as him. Sea Dragon growled, thinking that this could be either a challenger for his power or live prey. Kuma-Oni was licking his drooling jaws hoping it was the latter. He then makes a beeline to the source of this power.  Helicopters were flying over following Sea Dragon filming the movements of the creature. Everyone was now on high alert due to Kuma-Oni's rampage.

At the Sea Dragon begins to head towards Tokyo and continues his assault on the city. Unfamiliar voice called out the Dragon. "This far enough as you go," said the unknown voice. The Sea Dragon turns around and sees a large humanoid figure standing behind him. This young woman has tan-colored skin, long dark brown hair. Her height is 130ft tall as she had claw-like fingernails, fangs, and she wore a Bikini which looks to be made out of Croc skin judging by the tooth-like pattern on it. She is known as The Jungle Goddess Kaila and she's a member of The Giantastics. The Sea Dragon that lays out a huge roar as the creature charges at Kaila. Kaila fist impacts the Sea Dragon, causing the creature to fall to the ground. The Sea Dragon opened its mouth a fire and Ice beam at Kaila. Kaila we're able to dodge his attacks as she hides behind the building. "It seems like this dragon you're going to be tough," said Kaila. The Sea Dragon surprise attacked Kaila as the creature wrapped his body around Kaila's body. The Sea Dragon tried to bite Kaila's neck and rip out her windpipe but was met when she grabbed the Dragon by the neck. As the Sea Dragon begins to squeeze his body tight around Kaila's body. Kaila could feel her body getting tighter and tighter, as the Sea Dragon began to squeeze her body tighter. "How to find a way to get out of this," said Kaila.

Lucky for her, Kaila was close to a powerline. She grabbed a power line and electrocuted the Sea Dragon causing a dragon to release her. Feeling enraged, the Sea Dragon rushed toward Kaila. The Sea Dragon had his jaws open, ready to take a bite out of Kaila. She then grabbed the Sea Dragon by his mouth with both hands and chucked the dragon kaiju over his head. The Sea Dragon then landed headfirst into the ground after being tossed but managed to get right-side up. Kaila was able to wrestle Sea Dragon on his side, knocking him back to the ground as she pounded him on the right side of his face. The Sea Dragon swipes his claws at Kaila's leg, causing her to stumble back from the pain. The Dragon then heads butts Kaila, causing her to fall off balance the Sea Dragon wraps around Kaila once more as the creature begins to charge himself up with electrical energy and electrocutes Kaila causing her to fall on her back, unconscious. 

As Kaila we're lying unconscious. The Sea Dragon was about to finish her off.  "DON'T YOU DARE LAY A FINGER ON HER," shout an unknown voice. However, before the Sea Dragon could try to bite down on her throat, Nijia then delivers a powerful kick to his side, knocking the Sea Dragon off of Kaila. "Kaila, Kaila woke up," said Daryl in a worried voice. "Daryl. You watch Kaila. I'll deal with this dragon," said Nijia. The Sea Dragon then gets up and runs right at the two giantesses. "Here he comes!" said Nijia pulling out her Katana while Daryl stayed behind to watch Kaila. The Sea Dragon then swipes one of his claws at Nijia. But it's deflected with her sword. Nijia then punches the Sea Dragon in his face's right side; this seems to infuriate him even further as Dragon rises on, he fires an Ice beam at Nijia as Nijia use a lightning power to counterattack the dragon Ice beam. Nijia then charges at the Sea Dragon and tackles him to the ground.

Nijia then proceeds to punch the dragon in the face. "THIS IS FOR HURTING MY FRIEND?" shout Nijia in an angry voice as she continues to punch the dragon in the face. She gets her answer as the Sea Dragon opens his mouth and fires off another ice blast at Nijia. Nijia was able to dodge his attack as she moved out the way to avoid his ice beam. Sea Dragon sees his opportunity to attack Daryl and the unconscious Kaila. Nijia then rushes in with her sword and slashes at Sea Dragon shoulder to distract him from going after Daryl and Kaila. Nijia then grappled the Sea Dragon by its tail, keeping the Dragon from attacking Daryl and Kaila. Meanwhile Daryl was trying to keep Kaila safe. The Sea Dragon then turns around bites down on Nijia's shoulder and tosses her aside, and throws her against Daryl, knocking them both down. "Nijia," shouted Daryl. "Daryl. I'm sorry, but this Dragon is too strong for us!" said Nijia, wincing in pain from her injured shoulder. "Nijia. You can't give up just yet," said Daryl. The Sea Dragon then fires off several blasts of ice beam at Nijia and Daryl freezing half a body. The Sea Dragon was then getting closer and closer towards the two heroines attempting to kill both of them. Daryl begins to feel helpless seeing that she couldn't help both of her friends. As the Sea Dragon is about to deliver the killing blow. Daryl let out a huge scream "NOOOOOO!". Suddenly Daryl's magical necklace begins to glow bright white as Daryl and Nijia body begin to fuse together. The Sea Dragon was confused after seeing what just happened. 

Appearing in front of Sea Dragon was a young woman with fair skin. Her hair color was mixed with brown and light blue with two ponytails on each side, her left eye was blue, and her eye was yellow. She wore a red kimono short dress with yellow spots. The bottom half is covered without sleeves and her boots are wrapped with white cloth. Her body is well developed and muscular, naturally her hips are wide, her thighs and backside are somewhat thicc and she has a large size breast.

Young woman looks confused as she stares at her hand. "Wh…What happened?" said the young woman as you looked confused. "Daryl. Nijia…. Why does my voice sound different". As the young woman looks at her reflection in the water. She was shocked to find out she was none other than Daryl and Nijia fuse together. "Whoa. I can't believe we fuse together," said the young woman. Kaila soon regained consciousness as she looked up to see a large female figure standing in front of her. "Hi Kaila, you ok," asked the young woman. "Yeah, Nijia I'm ok…" before she noticed Kaila was surprised to see a new person standing in front of her. "Who…who are you?" asked Kaila. "Well, I'm neither Nijia or Daryl. But you can call me Daijiyl."

Daijiyl knew she had to take care of unfinished business. She knew that Kaila wasn't fully here from her injury. So, she told her to stay behind so she won't get injured. "I can't believe what I'm seeing. How did Daryl and Nijia able to fuse together?" said Kaila. Meanwhile Daijiyl is facing against the Sea Dragon as both stare at each other. "So. You're the monster who's going around causing all this destruction," said Daijiyl. The Sea Dragon let out a huge roar. Daijiyl was now furious that her friend was seriously injured with a glowing blue energy aura surrounding her body. Her body then makes an electrical aura, and she begins to get more angrier.

Daijiyl vs The Sea Dragon

The Sea Dragon tries to attack Daijiyl with his tail. But Daijiyl were able to grab his tail as she slammed him to a nearby building. The Sea Dragon fired off an Ice beam as Daijiyl were able to dodge his attack. Daijiyl fired off a lightning blast hitting the Sea Dragon directly in the chest. Daijiyl charged forward, the Sea Dragon readied himself despite the pained shock he was feeling. 

Daijiyl grabbed the Sea Dragon's shoulders and threw the dragon into the water close to Tokyo Bay. Daijiyl leap into air delivering a powerful dropkick to the skull of the Sea Dragon.  "You still want to fight" said Daijiyl. The Sea Dragon wasn't ready to give up as he attacks Daijiyl once more. A huge battle broke out between the two titans as they engaged each other in battle. The Sea Dragon quickly overpowered Daijiyl as he uses has power jaw to bite down on Daijiyl shoulder. Daijiyl screaming in pain as she can feel her shoulder bone being crushed by Sea Drgon jaw. Daijiyl was able to scratch one of Sea Dragon costing him to release Daijiyl from his jaw. Daijiyl whirled to the side and a large; fist slammed itself into the side of Sea Dragon head.

The Sea Dragon veered sideways, but pivoted to turn and face Daijily, who was advancing fast for a quick follow-up. She had just gotten close when Sea Dragon met her with a powerful tail-swipe. It hit her full in the ribs and knocked her sideways, allowing the Sea Dragon to turn back around and greet her with a mouthful of teeth. Daijiyl grab the Sea Dragon jaw and slammed it shut, forcing the Sea Dragon head up as aforementioned hand wrapped around the Sea Dragon neck to hold the now struggling the Sea Dragon back. The Sea Dragon thrashed wildly, trying to move its head closer to Daijily and take a chunk out of her, but Daijiyl arms were doing their job well to hold it back.

"Time to end this now" said Daijiyl. Daijiyl grabbed the Sea Dragon and plunged her fist right through the dragon chest unleashing a powerful electrical energy. "TWILIGHT BREAKER" shout Daijiyl. The Sea Dragon then howls in pain as its body was now expelling electrical energy from out of its body from. "Leave my family and friends along!" yelled Daijiyl. The Sea Dragon body was now starting to dissolve and dissipate as his energy was leaving his body. After the Sea Dragon was defeated, Daijiyl defuse back to normal as both Daryl and Nijia collapses from exhaustion. Kaila returned to see both Nijia and Daryl pass off. "Nijia! Nijia wakes up," said Kaila. "What happened?" asked Nijia. Kaila asks Nijia did she remember what happened from fight with the Sea Dragon. Nijia told Kaila she has no memories of what happened but the only thing she remembers is telling Daryl to run. Nijia looks over and see Daryl "DARYL!" shout Nijia as she ran over to check on her. Kaila told Nijia Daryl is ok, but she told Nijia she needs to listen. Kaila began to explain Nijia that her and Daryl fuse together to defeat the Sea Dragon. And Kaila believes that Daryl necklace has something to do with them two fuses together. Nijia couldn't believe what she just heard. Her and Daryl fuse together and she has no memories about this. Kaila asked Nijia maybe it's a good idea if she take Daryl to Colossa so she could examine Daryl to see what condition Daryl could be in?
