There’s a sudden rush around him, people pushing him through doors and away from hands that want to reach out and touch him, but L isn’t even thinking about them. His eyes focus on the black and white of the marble floor, mind buzzing with positions and strategy. It’s fine. He’s prepared.

Still, he can’t help but feel… a thrill. Some kind of excitement. He’s finally going to sit across a proper opponent, so he reasons it’s alright to feel like this.

“Mr. Lawliet,” a lady dressed in black says, pushing the white door right in front of him. “This way, please.”

The man is there already. His suit must be a brighter shade, since the only thing L can tell is that it’s clearer than grey. He briefly wonders if the man—Yagami, early thirties, Japanese—has already found his match and is aware of the concept of “color combination”. L wouldn’t know, obviously. All he sees is the monochrome version of the world.

Yagami stands when he notices his arrival, polite as expected. L did his research, poured over countless videos and analyses, examining his opponent’s movements, his strategies and the ruthlessness with which he closes. Fascinating stuff, really, but at the end of the day, Yagami is just a man. A very clever one, who rose through the ranks surprisingly fast, but L is the World Champion. There’s only room for one.

He’s about to take a step when a flash of light blinds him momentarily. He blinks, turning to the side, where a short man holding a camera smiles at him sheepishly.

“Sorry,” he says. “I didn’t mean to startle you, sir.”

L waves him away, taking his place across the board from Yagami. His opponent appeared out of thin air, not even young enough to be a sensation—it was mostly puzzling, why someone would wait so long to enter the championship, especially someone with such talent.

The most puzzling thing, at least to L, is that it seemed like this man had been playing a game inside a game, if such a thing could be possible. Like there was another opponent inside his head, someone much more worthy of his time than whoever was sitting across from him. Very arrogant, but L couldn’t help but sympathize.

He wonders how this match is going to go.

Yagami reaches over the board, offering his palm.

L meets him halfway, fingers closing around the other man’s hand.

The moment he does, the world explodes in L’s eyes.

He freezes, and so does Yagami, staring at him with wide eyes.

Is that what brown looks like?

L breathes, looking down at his own shirt—white, as he thought, but his pants are a shade he has no name for.

He knows what this means. He knows Yagami knows what this means.

But the clock is waiting for them next to the board and L lets go of Yagami’s hand.

First things first. He has a game to win.

Tbh i cant help but see ryuk as the viewer surrogate watching light just fumble so hard and live in such aggressive obliviousness… that boy really acting like hes outwitting L when hes got a weird godpower book that plays like having a magical Ace in poker… L still managed to almost immediately find light and suspect him WHEN LIGHT HAD MAGIC POWERS? Thats so embarrassing for light… ryuk laughing at light during the lind L tailor broadcast is iconic and i felt it in my bones

Summary:

“You are an absolute monster, Light Yagami.” He whispered, gazing into Light's eyes almost reverently. “You are despicable. An arrogant, manipulative liar to your very core.” He continued, brushing his thumb over Light's lower lip and leaning in closer. “But, so am I. That's why we've understood each other from the start. "Spoiler warning for Dual Destinies (mostly the last 2 cases). Blackquill, a prosecutor, was trying to figure out the identity of The Phantom, an international spy. So The Phantom killed Blackquill's biggest ally, which forced him to take the blame for the murder (to protect this person's daughter). So he ended up in jail for a crime he didn't commit. Six years later, The Phantom assumes identity of detective Bobby Fulbright, and under that disguise works together with Blackquill, who was allowed to prosecute again (despite being on death row). Their dynamic somehow contains a two-way power imbalance, since Simon is able to boss "Fulbright" around and insult him (being his direct superior), yet also "Fulbright" is technically his handler, and solves Blackquill's behavioral problems by... tasing him. They work together for most of the game. The Phantom forced Blackquill to take the blame for yet another murder. After it was revealed that Bobby Fulbright was in fact The Phantom in disguise (a man he was chasing all these years, the one who ruined his life, ended up right by his side), Blackquill cut his mask, thereby causing Phantom's breakdown. Blackquill took The Phantom into police custody at the end of the game. The jailer becomes the jailed. Great stuff."

So I was on TikTok, scrolling away, and I saw a couple people let a filter pick their next fanfic to read (fandom and a tag), and obviously I had to try it. I got Deathnote, easy enough, but my tag? My tag? It was enemies to lovers. So guess who is breaking out the manga again?

now here goes the entry for the 100 words challenge!!! no title because i can't think of one but i did a personal challenge of writing fluff on top of it being 100 words !!

here goes:

��Alright, open your eyes now.”  Light does. There’s a piece of cloth thrown over the table—maybe meant to be a tablecloth, but it doesn’t reach the edges. A muffin with a single candle is resting on top of it, the flame caressing L’s features in the dim light. His eyes are shining, though a slight blush rests on his cheeks. “I tried making your mom’s recipe.” Light’s eyes water for no reason. “Thanks,” he says, leaning in to brush his lips against L’s cheek. “It’s perfect.” “You haven’t tried it yet.” “I don’t have to.”  L’s lips taste sweeter still.

Another au i constantly think about is a SPECIALLY 2009 sherlock movie au- where L is ofc the sherlock type strange yet brilliant detective and Light is the unexpected perfect duo Watson (who is also suspected to be an illusive serial killer by L) and they work together solving cases with startling ease…

They constantly get distracted playing their own little mindgames about light being a murderer and L being onto him and they keep accidentally letting suspects escape in the meantime- but always end up getting their man as soon as they work together
