Tbh I feel like going to the US while the Nazis are in power is suicidal. So of course I don't understand your choice of going instead of your SO coming to Europe. But while I don't understand, I wish and pray for you to be safe. Whatever you choose, I hope you guys will be okay
You might be right. I have no idea what the future has in store or if I'll come to regret it. But I've already stated my reasons. As it stands, with the year-long process we've already started and that we can't just flip on a dime overnight, my partner can't come and stay in Europe legally just like that. Legal immigration is not that easy in one way or the other. Also... Yeah, I've stated that before, but one shouldn't underestimate how shitty things have been getting in Europe for the past few years as well, and how the influence of the US (which is huge) is likely to make things worse. So again I'm not 100% sure whether that'd have been better anyway.
Also also... Ima be real, I've shared that before, but the time where I was separated from my partner due to the travel ban was the only time in my life where I had actual suicidal ideation. I don't want this to happen again. That's why I'm making moves so it doesn't, first and foremost.
#tw sui ideation#tw sui talk#again i can't just pick and choose it's actually a really tough process and not just something i can go willy nilly about#it's a bit of a headache having people telling me otherwise#i'll do what i can and we'll keep doing our best to stay safe but it's not like i can just switch roads overnight#i wish i could but it's never as simple#or maybe it is for people who are already us citizens i have no idea#but i'm not quite sure#either way tbh i'm not sure moving to europe as so many people are throwing in online rn is that great a solution either#europe is the us's playground and geopolitically its bitch#some things definitely are better than in the us but in a world where money rules everything i don't feel it's quite as fool proof#as everyone makes it sound#as someone who was born and raised there respectfully#who's felt that influence for life#and btw as someone who also grew up not speaking english and who had to painstakingly learn#don't think you can just move to a random country you can't speak the language of and that everyone will be as nice about it#as if you were a tourist#language is important#my partner doesn't speak my country's language#so yep there's that#i've already said that several times anyway it's getting tiresome#we COULD have tried for the UK in a timeline where those dumbasses didn't choose to leave the EU#but that ship sailed almost 10 years ago#i wonder if anyone realizes that#sorry for saying that after such a wall of text but thank you for the concern though sincerely

my favorite scene in all of literature is when Neil Josten wakes up in Columbia after being drugged, hurls an alarm clock at Aaron, dumps his water on the floor and throws the cup at Aaron, stuff his clothes down the toilet and squeezes out through the window, has the foresight to call Matt from a pay phone to protect his shit, hitch hikes back to campus, eyes back to brown?? shows up on Wymack’s door like 😜 and reveals he could speak German the whole time?? CHARACTER OF ALL TIME, that is a protagonist who knows how MOVE THE MFING PLOT ALONG

Please understand that there are cultural differences and language differences, if you see this happening let the person clarify what they meant, that person might just not be familiar with words the western side of the internet use

As a lifetime member of the Professional Organization of English Majors, I am here to say that you are correct in your definitions, but wrong that this is a stupid hill. Insisting that words have meanings is absolutely correct. This idea is highly relevant to art and literature, of course, but is incredibly important to keep in mind in our current political environment. The twisting of words and their meanings is a vicious weapon of politics and war. We must never allow true meaning to be obscured, twisted, or lost in any matter of life and study. Change can and does happen for many legitimate reasons, but forcing change in order to grab power is not one of them.
Therefore, I support your stand and will lend what strength I have to your cause.
i'm AWARE this is a stupid hill to die on, but like. trope vs theme vs cliché vs motif vs archetype MATTERS. it matters to Me and i will die on this hill no matter how much others decide it's pointless. words mean things

Fun fact: Immediately after this, my screen darkened then faded to a computer background-type selection of IRL landscapes titled “Beautiful Art.” I pressed all the buttons on the console, but couldn’t leave that screen. I had to turn the TV off & on again to get things back to normal. This lasted like 3 minutes.
This was my first playthrough so I thought this was just a fucking terrifying feature nobody talked about until telling my mutual. I still have no clue what the actual fuck happened. Help me.

I've seen people use it to describe any shared information about someone else, even if it's public already. Usually the same idiots who call any lie gaslighting, generalizing a specific term to undermine it's seriousness.

One of only two negative comments out of like a thousand so I shouldn't really care but can anyone remember me ever doxxing someone or have people started using "doxx" to mean "calling attention to their internet account"

Sorry if the humor is a bit crass, but I've witnessed this phenomena so many times with friends who become parents that I could not help but wonder which extreme side of the line these boys fall on.
This is also a bit of a character dive. I kind of like the idea of Leo constantly censoring himself around Casey Junior, because it gives it even more oomph when he says "badass" in the beginning of the movie since it signals that he now views CJ as an adult who he respects, depends on, and can speak with frankly. No censoring needed.

It is important in one's social justice journey to realize that while language is important and can alter how we view the world, it is secondary to actions and institutions that are causing harm.
The "people with X" identity movement was started because it can shift one's thinking from "groups of people who are different than me" to "people who are like me but with a different experience that should be honored", but using person-first language will not result in any material change for a marginalized person's situation, it has to be followed up with policy and social change that addresses the historical problems faced by a group. (also obvioulsy not everyone is a fan of person first language, it's just an easy example of this kind of idea).
there's a lot of effort put online into shutting down offensive language, like "don't say this word because it's a slur", "never call a person that word because it's offensive", "you can't say this word you have to censor it", and while that's important, the same amount of effort isn't being put into shutting down offensive behavior, and usually takes priority over the offensive behavior itself.
imagine you meet a person who's deeply down the transphobia rabbit hole, but is trying to make an effort to learn what it is for the first time, and you talk to them about a trans girl friend of yours. their first response is "so is a trans girl a girl that wants to be a boy or a boy that wants to be a girl?" yes, they're asking an offensive question, but it's not in a malicious way, this is a person who you know is slowly trying to make an effort and doesn't know any better. in their eyes, they asked a legitimate question, because they don't know what a trans person is.
your first response shouldn't be "she doesn't want to be a girl, she is a girl", or keep insisting she's a "trans girl" because the meaning is obvious to you, you need to understand that the person in front of you has no idea what being trans is, and how to explain it in their language so they understand what it is, and only THEN explain to them why their question was offensive. a good response to that would be something that explained it, kinda like: "a trans girl is a girl who was born a boy but transitioned into a girl, so the friend I'm talking about is a girl. if a trans girl was a girl that transitioned to a boy, it would be rude of me to refer the that person as a she, since they'd be a boy, a he. so if I'm saying my friend is a trans girl, I mean a girl who was born a boy but is now a girl." notice I didn't use the words male, transition, "boy's body", etc. an ex transphobe might not understand these terms properly and would just get confused and frustrated.
i hope this makes sense.
