I have a question about being two spirit. I'd always understood it as culture-bound to indigenous people but I was at a presentation by somebody from the Lenape tribe and they said that the term can be used by anyone who understands and respects the meaning well. They said they will hold ceremonies for non-indigenous people who identify with the term. This contradicts what I've been told before so I'm not sure what to think - is two spirit a culturally closed identity?
What's important to understand here is no one indigenous person here (me included) can speak for or stand in for all indigenous people. We are hundreds of distinct nations with our own histories, boundaries, and cultural mores before we even get to the individual level. Sometimes they hold opinions that make me wanna bop 'em in the back of the head.
The thing you gotta understand about Two-spirit is that it's a compromise. The term Two-spirit is an umbrella term covering numerous identities. Sometimes with their own names in our own languages. Sometimes they're words that are lost. Sometimes it's things we're putting back together after hundreds of continuing years of oppression, colonialism, and religious violence.
We weren't allowed to legally practice our culture until my mom's lifetime and weren't allowed to speak and teach our languages until mine. So two-spirit is a compromise for those things in the gaps for a lot of folk. It's cardboard over a broken window you duct-tape to keep the winter cold out. Sometimes these things are closed. Sometimes they aren't. Sometimes they're aspirations or a statement of intention. Some come with heavy things like duty and expectation. But they're innately tied to our experiences. I don't think you could or should use these identities. So much of queerness and it's experience and identity to the mass is dictated by whiteness. Or set by Black and Latino communities that never get the recognition for doing so. So a lot of indigenous kids end up spending an inordinate amount of time going "Yeah, but what does queerness mean or even look like for me?" and that's what Two-Spirit offers them. A shelter and a roadsign. I don't think you could or should use these identities.
A kinship, an empathic understanding, or a relationship to the experiences ain't a bad thing to have. It's human and kind. As such, I ask that you please do not take me as cruel for trying to defend my brothers, sisters, and those experiencing something between or beyond the limitations of colonial language.
Love us because we wanted to share our experiences with you. But some things just ain't worth it to take.

@cassieopeiia said yes when i offered to repost my afro-dominican Jason Todd headcanons so they could finally have some accurate latino Jason content so here!!
Both sets of his grandparents were inmigrants who made sure to teach their kids their culture and Bruce,Talia and Alfred did research so he could still grow up in it after he was adopted so he's not disconnected from his culture like you'd expect
Is darkskinned with a big nose, full lips, green eyes and shoulder length black dreads with one of them being white from The Lazarus Pit.As Robin,he wore his hair short and natural(as in,his classic curls but even thicker)
Speaks spanish often enough that it's a consistent part of his speech patterns but dosen't have an accent since he's so good at both it and english
90s/2000s anime kid but specifically watched the episodes and read the mangas in latino spanish whenever he could(Definitely a merch collector too!!!Nothing weird though,i feel the need to say that,he just loves buying volumes and figures and replicas of weapons and plushies-The last one is a secret though)
Has his pre-reboot Robin characterization but got victim blamed and a bad rep anyway because of antiblackness and xenophobia
Bullying Tim for being a gringo is one of his favorote hobby's
Duke and him compare their similar yet different experiences with blackness and got along even quicker than canon thanks to it
Mentors Damian's team The All New Teen Titans and next to Damian, the member he's closest to is Nell
Takes great care of his hair and will sometimes wear red beads-He actually has a couple sets in different shades!!!
Says his favorite color is red because it represents blood on his country's flag and nobody can tell wether he's joking or not
Sometimes feels guilty for 'being a stereotype' due to the whole being born to poor parents who were also addicts and growing up to be a huge asshole with anger issues and a thirst for violence but rarely lets it get to him because he thinks he's the coolest mf to ever exist(but we all know he's actually a boyloser)
Aave user, with his favorite word from it being 'deadass'
And he makes the obvious 'Concha' jokes too for irony because he's demisexual and aceflux
Loves his country's cuisine-especially flan,it's tied with neapolitan as his favorite dessert!-but his favorite type of latino food is mexican!Tres leches cake and tacos and burritos and mexican hot chocolate and all that make his mouth water like Atlantis
Wears traditional festive clothes for special occasions and if he can't,he'll just refuse to go("I'm not going out in public in that!" "It's literally a tux???" "You call that a tux?It dosen't even have shoulder pads!Don't patronize me,Dickardo.")
Listens to bachata for nostalgia reasons and has some songs memorized but generally a female rappers/death metal bands/punk rock kinda guy
Black and latino memes connoiseur, both the classics and newer ones
Adores dominican folklore and uses it's horror mythos as inspo as Red Hood
Thinks 'showing affection means you aren't tough!' is gringo nonsense so he's pretty open about if he likes someone,be it platonic or romantic
Poc4Poc strictly and has a thing for black women
The only thing him and Kyle can agree on is that latinos are superior
Very autistic, with no masking game now or ever due to the norms he was raised in never giving him the chance to learn to.It got him bullied at school and things didn't get better into adulthood until we got to my Rhato rewrite and he got to make REAL friends i.e Reconnecting with Eddie and my self-insert Summer Kent(i got into DC through watching Utrh and starting to selfship with him),Robin-ing up Duke and vice versa and meeting Rose,Artemis,Kyle,Thad and a bunch of ocs by @moonage-gaydream @theautisticcentre @refrigeratedboombursts @mayameanderings and @insomniac-jay
Punkero Gótico(Goth Punk)who's a straightedge as trauma coping, seeks out latino/black run thrift stores, goes to basement shows and charity events and protests when he has free time and usually just asks around for them so he can know, wears dominican themed corpse makeup and is an agender transmasc who describes his gender as 'Mostly nonbinary but being a guy makes things funny as hell and Not That Kinda Girl by Mcr describes me pretty well')
His love for classical literatiure ofc includes latino authors and he played JuegosJuegos.com tons as a kid
Calls Talia Mamí,Damian 'Duende',Duke 'El Real'(Real=Spanish for Royal but also means the same thing it does in english so it's basically him saying 'You're so fucking real' like the slang)and Summer 'Strawberry Pop'(Jason has a thing for pink-coded black women specifically m'kay?)
His favorite Marvel character and lucky for him his Marvel Variant too is Miles Morales. He thinks it's Hobie Browm though(PLEASE He's so obsessed with his non-existent coolness and relatedly Duke's actual DC Variant is Duke 'El Real' Thomas)
And his books Variant is Percy Jackson. The only real differences are 1.Percy is transfem instead of transmasc and 2.Jason's arc is about him being a self-made tragedy and highkey bad person who works his ass off to redeem himself and only works when he's not getting coddling and Percy's is about how she's never done anything wrong in her entire life yet gets treated like shit anyway and deserves to be treated kindly for once no matter how strong she is
My fancast for him is Aubrey Joseph.Everything i've watched of him-Acting AND as himself-is literally just irl Jason Todd. There's no better fancast for him out there,we've found Red Hood y'all
If you call him any version of 'Papí' and you're not Talia or one of his kids:'Lights Out Bitch!!!!'
Canon bonus':His birthday is on Dominican Restoration day,at my villa we sell mini packets of neapolitan cream with little spoons at our schools, his Lego movie is called 'Family Matters' which is the name of an iconic black sitcom and Leon from Pokemon's VA voiced him in the Wfa dub!!!

His Rose ~ Details
(Kai Parker x Bennett OC fanfiction)
content warnings/tags ~ Dark fiction, dom/sub dynamics, abuse, murder, childhood trauma (mentioned). Minors DNI
I don't claim ownership of The Vampire Diaries or its characters. All credits go to the rightful owner(s). I only own my original character(s).
K.P. Masterlist
This fanfiction is born from my dissatisfaction with the way Kai was criminally underutilized in the TVDU. Honestly, I found him annoying at first, but he grew on me as season 6 went on. Thru Chris Wood's charming performance, Kai stole the show for me. I'll never forgive the showrunners for a lot of things, including underutilizing Chris Wood in this role & not allowing this broken king to have a real redemption arc.
On the topic of the showrunners, I'll never forgive them for how they did Bonnie Bennett or the Bennetts in general with how they were limited to magical plot devices for everyone else's use without any appreciative focus on their power & how it could really benefit them. Even though I love Bonnie & Kai, my otp endgame for her has always been Bonenzo, but I also adore Klonnie ❤️.
My AU changed and added plenty of lore around his coven & certain events. The plot follows the life of Bonnie's younger sister, Rosalina "Rose" Bennett-Ruiz. I go on to describe her below, but I'd like to state that she acts as Kai's antithesis as an innocent, fledgling witch. She's also Bonnie's support system. I always hated how the show often ignored that Bonnie lacked family around her that were unconditionally there for her. Bonnie's mom left when she was small, she lost her grams in season 1, and her father was a non-factor in her life until he returned... just to get killed off in front of her.
I wrote Rose & Bonnie's dynamic keeping in mind everything I hate about older sibling/younger sibling dynamics, like the one between Buffy and Dawn in BTVS. Bonnie deserves family that consistently supports her, encourages her to prioritize her well-being, and actually tries to lessen the existing load on her shoulders.
Another thing I kept in mind when adding Rose to my TVD AU is not to have her replace or take away Bonnie’s space in the plot. Now, I do give her Bonnie's plotline of being sent to the prison world in season 6, but this is essential to the story, and the way Bonnie was treated that season made me so sad that I have no problem taking traumatic experiences from her (of which she has more than enough) and giving them to Rose.
Okay... if you made it through my rant, congrats. I also want to offer my inbox as a place where anyone can offer up requests, scenarios, ask questions, even if you want to roast my cruddy writing... my inbox is open.
Tumblr media
🌹Rosalina "Rose" Bennett-Ruiz:🌹
Born: March 18th, 1994 (18yrs)
Gender: Female | Height: 5’1” | Hair color: Brown | Eye color: Hazel
Race/ethnicity: Black and Latino/Hispanic
Species: witch (Bennett)
Titles: Rosy (Kai), littlest witch (by Kol), kid (by Damon)
Characteristics:
Rose is a gentle and kind-hearted person, always looking for the good in people and situations. She can be a people pleaser and overall naive when dealing with people, often seeing the best in everyone and believing in second chances
She highly values family, so bonding with Bonnie means a lot her. Due to her naivety and weakness, she can be easily manipulated and taken advantage of. Like Bonnie she’s compassionate and tends to selflessly help others. Struggles with powerful spells due to her insecurity in her magical abilities
She enjoys singing, gardening (honing her nature-based magic, making potions & studying herbology), sewing and cooking (she bakes when she’s anxious)
She has a strong aversion to blood & violence so spending time with vampires took a lot of getting used to
Trilingual: fluent in Spanish & Portuguese
Despite her demure demeanor and virginal innocence, with her stuffed animal collection, enduring love of cartoons and a lack of dating, she’s a hopeless romantic that harbors the hidden desire to submit herself to a powerful dominant
Background:
Family: Bonnie Bennett (half-sister), Jamie Ruiz (half-brother), Abby Bennett-Ruiz (mother), Matteo Ruiz (father 🕊️), Sheila Bennett (maternal gm🕊️)
Rose was raised in Summersville, North Carolina. She was a child model until 13 when her father tragically died. She was the captain of her high school majorette dance team. Her life drastically changed when Bonnie arrived on her doorstep.
Rose was 16 when she & Bonnie would finally meet. Bonnie and Elena came to Abby for help with a spell. Rose was shocked to find that she had an older sister as Abby never mentioned Bonnie or the life she left behind in Mystic Falls. She was even more surprised upon finding out about her magical bloodline and that supernatural creatures walked the earth. Unlike Grams, Abby never mentioned magic throughout Rose’s life and even went as far to suppress her magic with a binding spell
After Abby is turned by Damon, she decides to leave her family to learn control and find peace as a fledgling vampire. Rose moves to Mystic Falls with Bonnie where she learns magic from her.
Magic doesn’t come naturally to her. Admittedly having a 50% accuracy rate with her spells. She struggles with her confidence & focus when chanting and spells drain her much quicker even when she tries channeling the energy around her. Despite this, Rose is determined to improve, valuing her one-on-one time with Bonnie and spending late nights on her own practicing & memorizing spells. She is determined to use her magic for good, prove herself and lessen the load on Bonnie as the resident Bennett witch of the group.
Her role in the Mystic Falls gang is the “Bennett witch in training” or “the bringer of baked goods” (according to Damon), since she often supplies their gatherings with fresh pastries. Everyone underestimates her power, even Bonnie. She tries to keep Rose out of danger unless she can’t help it.

🔪Malachai "Kai" Parker:🔪
Born: May 9, 1972 (22yrs)
Gender: Male | Height: 6'0" | Hair color: Dark Brown | Eye color: Blue-gray
Race/ethnicity: white/non-Hispanic
Species: siphoner (Gemini Witch coven)
Titles: abomination, black sheep, the defective twin (his coven)
Characteristics:
Charismatic with a charming smile. Upon meeting him, his charisma operates as a façade to hide his lack of empathy and his sadistic tendencies
Can be hard to read but that’s because he struggles with expressing his emotions which stems from his abusive childhood. He’s cold and relatively unfeeling with people, but once he lets someone in, he’s fiercely loyal and protective.
He can be observant, calculating and manipulative to taking advantage of someone and get what he wants
He’s a sassy man, often comes back with quick quips and has a natural sense of humor (typically dark humor)
When he’s comfortable, he never shuts up, has no filter and sucks with certain social cues. After being alone for nearly his whole life, will talk anyone's ear off without realizing they are not willing to listen
Kai can siphon all of a witch’s magic without killing them. He controls how the process feels - at its worst, a fast searing burn to a slight tingle. Overtime, a witch will regenerate their magic
High libido!!- He’s starved for touch and affection (though he would never admit that he needs anyone). Sexual desires reflect his sadistic personality as he enjoys dominating another person through absolute control and pain infliction
He likes raunchy comedies and media with half-naked women such as Bay Watch and MTV videos. A major foodie with constant cravings for sweet and salty snacks. He prefers snacking throughout the day but when he does bother to cook, it’s really good
He is fluent in old Latin, often found in grimoires and other ancient texts. When he was young he’d get his hands on old grimoires and study them, all the time to himself allowing him to hone his knowledge of witchcraft and technique
Background:
The Parker family is the head of the Gemini coven. Its patriarch, Joshua Parker is the coven leader. Kai is the eldest child, being half an hour older than his fraternal twin, Josette. Unlike Jo, Kai was born without the ability to generate his own magic, instead siphoning magic from lingering spells, objects, or other witches. When he was young, he would naturally gravitate toward the magic of his sister, so Joshua quickly decided to physically isolate Kai from everyone for fear of his son's "defect" hurting others.
As fraternal twins born of the coven leader, Jo and Kai would be set to merge on their 22nd birthday, where the winner takes the other's magic and coven leadership and the loser dies and is absorbed into the other but with the risk of Kai's siphoning ability giving him an edge in the merge, Joshua and Viviane continued having kids until she birthed another set of twins that would merge instead.
Kai's upbringing was lonely, spending most of his time locked in his bedroom up in the attic. Following his father's lead, most of his family excluded and demonized him. As he grew, Kai learned to internalize the cruel labels they gave him. If they wanted a monster, they would get a monster and on his 22nd birthday, May 9th, 1994, he would finally act on his boiling rage and resentment toward his family, unleashing the hatred he accumulated through a lifetime of torment onto his siblings when Jo refused the merge. To protect the twins, she would relent to merge with him but the coven was waiting and with the help of Sheila Bennett they banished him to a prison world of complete isolation.
Each year that passed only added to his hunger for revenge, left with nothing to do but plan his escape and seizer of coven leadership. He grew to take pride in what he had done to his siblings and his status as a sociopath capable of killing anyone who gets in his way without remorse.
AU-Specific Lore:
Tumblr media
Prison world Lore:
Prison worlds are created by Bennett blood sacrifice, meaning a Bennett must be bled to death so the gemini coven can channel her blood magic.
A prison world resets with the eclipse every 3 months.
Time works differently, so no one ages throughout their time there.
A prison world cannot create life so the only living inhabitants are those sent there or arrive via ascendant.
Kai is linked to his prison world so he can’t die. If something kills him, he’ll be out for a while depending on the damage but the magic will heal him back to life. Without Kai, the prison world falls apart so while he’s there, it sustains his life to sustain itself. Once he leaves, it ceases to exist.
The Ascendant - an ancient device created by the Gemini coven and a Bennett ancestor that only responds to a living Bennett’s blood magic. The ascendant is sensitive to magic in general, so even when the spell is done right, it will activate then fall apart. You only have one chance at the time of the eclipse to correctly do the spell, which Kai knows from experience because early on he tried collecting a vial of Bennett blood that he hunted down in a hospital and using Josette's magic he siphoned from a hidden dagger. Disappointment boiled over into rage when he did the spell beneath the eclipse, the ascendant disassembled, but he was not transported out.
The Gemini Coven Lair:
Exists as a interdimensional where the coven keeps ancient texts, grimoires, enchanted items (talismans, gems, ascendants, etc.), and materials for spells & potions
Infinite space that can be utilized by the coven leader: often includes a space for magic instruction, a library, spell casting, a gathering area for the coven, etc.
Accessed only by portal, which is summoned by a spell entrusted to high-ranking Gemini members

Honestly I feel like Two Face might be the sternest parent between Bruce and Harvey! He did Not grow up with gentle parenting and isn't open to it until Bruce catches him tugging at damians ear and he's like WHAT ARE YOU DOING, " he won't wash the dishes??"
" so you tell him! Gently"
" doll, i think you're too soft--"
" and I think you're forgetting your place in our dynamic. Youre an indulgence, darling. I'm an addiction. We are not. The same. Pack your bags. I'm sure a hotel would be happy to receive you for the night."
Ofc he comes back with chocolates and a new car for Bruce to take apart and tinker with, and gives Damian's ears lots of kisses after. He's also the one who spoils them the most ofc and promises to take mommy and me classes lmaooo
Tumblr media
(Two-Face's face, after he saw Jason throw Tim through the Batcave again, after he punished him for doing it a few days ago)
I feel like, Harvey after the acid incident (If we're talking about Oscar Isaac, he's Latino, like me), he's from the old Latino upbringing. He will go physical when clearly something is out of line.
Definitely, as you say, of the three, he is the most severe, the one who will not allow any act of brazenness and rudeness to take place in front of him or his husband. He won't allow it. He'll get physical when the menacing looks and scary tone of his voice aren't enough to warn kids about his disrespect.
And what do I mean by getting physical?
I'm talking about: butt slapping, ear pulling, hand slapping, and the dreaded flip flop. Of course, at least in the case of Two-Face, as a measure of correction after having done a clear disobedience or an outlandish madness. He wouldn't do it to command respect or anything like that.
No, he knows he's bad, but he's not cruel.
Two-Face is one of the first to give the previous look of threat, he is one of those who with a knock on the table leaves everyone silent, and he will not hesitate to lower his voice to that of the afterlife if that prevents his offspring from continuing to do stupid things. He warned first, if his children still descide to be stupid and do stupid things, well, you cannot tell that he did not warned them.
And if he slaps your ass being his son, oh God, be thankful for it, because he's not really slapping you hard. His enemies are the ones he leaves with their coccyx broken and their ears torn off. To the offsprings of him? Well, only the part that was attacked will leave something pink for them.
Clearly, Two-Face would only use those methods when the kids are being aggressive towards each other or Bruce/Alfred, have vandalized something during patrol (things like an important location or serious collateral damage, terribly putting themselves or their siblings at risk), disobeying, and being bold with Alfred/Bruce/Harvey.
Two-Face was raised like this, he was created based on violence and although he may be soft after a time with his wonderfull husband, he also has his violent side. He won't hesitate to pull Dick's sideburns if he insults Bruce during a fight, He'll slap Jason on the butt if he steals guns from safe houses again despite being given his assignment, He'll slap Tim's hand if he rolls his eyes at Alfred again after the good lord only demands he get some sleep, and he won't hesitate to throw Damian's slipper if he dares make a cruel comment about the purity of his dynasty. (Only the slipper because it's his favorite, after Jason, of course.)
But, after the physical part as punishment, comes the completely loving part that many times others tend to forget. Two-Face is the first to defend his cubs at the first risk of threat. He will not hesitate to use his teeth and nails to care for and ensure the safety of his offspring, put his skin on fire and pluck out his eyelashes if it means that his and Bruce's children will have the safety and comfort they deserve.
Two-Face may have pulled Dick by the sideburns, but he's the only one who knows what muscle pain cream his son uses; he may have whacked Jason's ass, but he's also the one who gives him tips to improve his aim and gives him a crate full of ammunition; He will have hit Tim in the hands, but he is the one in charge of singing him a lullaby, tucking him in, and making his followers get all the information so that Tim does not have to do it; And, well, of course he threw Damian's slipper for making fun of his blood purity (you know, that crap about him being Bruce's only true son), but he's also one of the first to defend the boy when someone on the street yells racist and Islamophobic insults at him.
He pampers the boys and gives them love beyond his power. He is the one who cooks breakfast when no one else can, takes them to school if he can, and listens to them when they don't feel heard. He is a good father. Stern, aggressive, but he does the best he can.
Bruce and Harvey don't get it, their upbringing was so different from Two-Face's (Yes, I know Two-Face and Harvey are two parts of the same coin, but I prefer to think that Harvey gets sweet while Two-Face has the bitter), But if they are both sure of something, it is that Two-Face would be the first to cross and burn the line that neither of them dares to cross; especially when it comes to the safety of his children.
Two-Face will torture, kill, burn, smash, and tear apart anyone who dares touch a single hair of his family.
Tumblr media
(Two-Face, going to "peacefully" look for the racist idiot who had the fantastic idea to insult his baby Damian… and by the way to get some of Dick's special edition cereal and more marshmallows for Jason's chocolate)

listen i love Chris to death but honestly the subversion in awesome adventures vs lis2 is SO fucking genius. like the fact that awesome adventures deals so much with superhero imagery and Chris is the young white male protagonist that superhero media constantly sells to us, of course people would assume he's the one with the powers, (something Chris believes as well, although that might have a bit more to do with Daniel's baby gaslighting my beloved) and that the brown kids we see in the yard would be just sidekicks as per usual. but then it all get flipped with lis2 and the revelation that the young Latino boy is the one with the powers, he's the true protagonist, or rather his utterly powerless older brother (which generates this subversive fuckery all its own). his story doesn't start because of Chris, Chris's story starts because of his, and his own introduction to his abilities was so much more violent and terrifying than Chris's own miraculous introduction to "his" powers because the violently racialized world they live would never allow anything else.
and how this bleeds into the grief elements of both games, like we're all set up to spend another full-length game mourning the painful, but familiar loss of another Pretty Blonde White Woman With Her Whole Life Ahead Of Her a la lis1 and then instead it's all about the loss of a Latino father to police violence instead, a form of mourning that hardly ever gets talked about in popular media, particularly in video games (and the Pretty Blond White Woman in the lis2 photos isn't dead at all, she's just been treating her family like she is lol). which ties into how this game that was about random accidents and intimate domestic violence and the monsters or heroes we imagine to deal with that expands into systemic issues of monstrosity and being called with a monster just for existing. just, mmm, it's so fucking good the way it all plays with these tropes of who is allowed to be a hero and who we expect to be a hero and and who heroes are allowed to fight for and what a hero even means when the cops and fathers expected to enforce order often bring about violence instead, all those ideas that lis2 sinks its teeth to and never lets go.

Blue Sky's Studio's Themes
I'm surprised that people are surprised Blue Sky Studios made Nimona. Like if Blue Sky's films didn't always talk about political and deep topics. They just add a cartoon and wacky tone over it so it can appeal to children.
The Ice Age franchise was always about love and family. An odd family with quirks that faced whatever the world threw at them. This is what I mean when I say it makes sense that Blue Sky's would have an LGBT+ film for kids. That treats LGBT+ with respect. The studios very 1st film/franchise is about outsiders who are too different to be in a "normal" family. So those outsiders find their way to each other and form their own family and embrace their love for each other. Not caring what "normal" families think of them.
Robots is baiscally classism explained through robots. The lower class robots are struggling to survive because the upper class robots are making it hard on purpose. The upper class is making new robot parts (necessity in this world) expensive. And stopped making old/hand me down parts (which are cheaper and more affordable to the lower class.) Forcing everyone to spend more money if they want to survive in this society. And to those that don't get new parts and look too old and broken, are taken away to the "Chop Chop" where they'll burn and melt the robot into something else/new/useful.
Rio is pretty much about finding your roots and learning about the culture you come from. Falling in love with your culture and embracing it. Instead of just leaving it behind. Simple concept but something a lot of people today need to learn too. I can't tell you how surprised I was to learn a lot of Latinos can't speak Spanish or understand it.
Horton Hears a Who. Same as Robots. Classism. The higher ups don't believe that the ones below them matter. Hell, we have the government pressuring the mayor to keep the truth to himself. And I feel like this is one of the few films that treats Dr. Seuss books with respect. We all know his books can get political. And this film really shows that respect in the "We Are Here" scene. With music and acting.
Spies in Disguise. Self explanatory if you've seen the film. It's about peace vs violence. How we can find peaceful solutions and not rely on violence and war.
They have a few other films like Peanuts, Ferdinand, and Epic. Same thing. Either about justice, love, or peace. Were their films flawless? No! They had flaws and were sometimes average. Buy hey, try to make a film for kids that tackles political topics. It's not easy. Nimona 100% feels like the film where Blue Sky's finally found themselves. They found a way to deliver deep topics to children in a way they'll understand. Or at least start to understand as they get older. The topics of anarchy, classism, LGBT+, and being outcasted because of it. It was perfect, and it really felt like Blue Sky's finally found themselves. Breaks my heart that this is the last piece of them that survived. Would've loved to see what Blue Sky's could've become if they kept trying.
But hey, to end this on a happy note, I'll happily take Nimona as the grand finally of Blue Sky's. It's a bitter sweet and such a beautiful film. And I absolutely love how this is the film that got saved after Disney (higher up studio) destroyed Blue Sky Studios. (A lower studio) And is the only Blue Sky's film that isn't under Disney's control.

You Ain't Goin' Nowhere
Darrell arrives in Ambrose. [Part 4/5]
Links to part 1 2 3 5
Warnings: self-proclaimed executioner with god complex comes to terms with being pseudo-adopted into a murders-for-funsies-but-sometimes-for-love family but there’s drama because his older brother/uncle-figure doesn’t like him all that much, so slasher-typical violence and gore, allusions to murder, jealous! and insecure!Vincent
A/N: OK I THOUGHT THIS WAS GONNA BE THE LAST PART BUT IT GOT TOO LONG. New (and old 👀) characters are introduced. As always, bold is ASL. HOPE YOU ENJOY!
Featuring the Sinclairs, RZ Michael Myers, and the ocs of @the-pinstriped-hood (Percy), @probably-a-plant-thing (Skulk), @slaasherslut (Ava). Ellie and Alia are also mentioned <3
Tagging some moots who might wanna see this! @rottent33th @vincent-sinclair-deserved-better @cries-in-latino @kalid-raven @angxlslasher @allthingsblood
“You don’t believe me?”
“Vinny,”
Anger made Vincent's fingers stutter as he signed.
"You won't take my word for it? Why? Why, Bo? Do you trust him more than me? I'm your brother."
Bo took Vincent's hands in his, shushing him. "You are my brother. Nothing or no one would change that, but - tsk - listen to yourself. I know havin' people over is a new concept to you, but don't you think you're getting a li'l too carried away?"
He was looking at him like a raving lunatic, with that oh-poor-you frown wrinkling his brow. Vincent's breath hitched. He balled his fists and shook his twin off.
Bo regarded him sternly, like a silly misbehaving child. "Vincent," he warned.
Vincent grabbed the back of his chair and threw it back. It clattered against the tool chest.
"See for yourself, then." His one blue eye bulged in its socket. "Watch for the signs."
Bo watched him storm out of the garage and melt into the shadows beyond the pumps.
Darrell, a murderer? Where on earth did he get that?
Bo shook his head, raised his beer bottle to his lips, stopped. He glanced in the direction Vincent had gone.

Lesley Reinhart was settling into his sixties. Without much difficulty, one must note. If anything, he was in better shape than he ever was.
He was tall, broad-shouldered, with a muscular body that could put any recent police academy graduate to shame. Before he got out of his car - a sleek Porsche picked out of the city impound - he brushed back his hair and adjusted his tie.
His jaw clenched when he heard a wet squelch after he put one foot out. Mud. On his newly polished dress shoes.
It wasn't like he didn't know there was a growing hurricane, thought Hernandez as he trudged through the mud-strewn forest floor. He never understood how people grew vainer the closer they got to kicking the bucket.
The two men followed the well-trodden path to the shack the local townsfolk said was home to the last person who saw the missing teens.
They came upon the place. A sad brick and wood structure with an askew porch, which was lit by an amber light bulb. A loud humming told Hernandez the place ran on generator power.
Reinhart raised his voice. "Daniel Ray Williams?"
The scraggly boy who was chopping firewood stopped and lowered his ax. He took a cautious step back as the two men approached.
"Tread lightly, Moses, for the ground you walk on is holy ground… or some shit." A man, hidden by the shadow and fog, made his presence known. He sat on a rusty white-painted metal chair on the porch, smoking a hastily rolled cigarette. "Let's back you up, gentlemen," he said, "Off my property."
"Mr. Williams," began Reinhart, "my name is Lesley Rein-"
"Earl."
An impatient smirk tugged at the corner of Reinhart's thin lips. "My name is Lesley Reinhart. I'm a detective with the NOPD. This is my partner Detective Hernandez." He flashed his badge.
"Figured," said Earl, unimpressed.
"We're just here to ask Daniel Williams a couple of questions," Hernandez explained, adopting a more reasonable tone.
"That's my kid brother." Dan had made his calm, collected way up the steps and was now standing next to Earl. "Got a stutter. He don't talk much on account of it. You wanna know anythin', you ask me."
"This is about Brody Morgan and Carter Green," said Reinhart.
"Yeah, I heard about 'em. Got a dozen or so bluecoats sweeping the woods yesterday with dogs and whatnot."
Reinhart persisted. "We were hoping to get a statement out of Daniel, about what happened at the gas station."
Earl folded his arms over his chest. "Well, if you already know he was at the gas station, I'm sure you know what them boys did."
"We were also hoping he'd tell us about the attendant who was working there the day Brody and Carter disappeared."
Earl tipped his head and raised one wild eyebrow. "Why, he a suspect?"
Reinhart grew more impatient. "I'm afraid I can't divulge that."
"Level with me here, hoss."
"We'll be asking the questions here, Mr. Williams."
"Dan a suspect? Am I? Mighty convenient for you to have a bunch o' dirt-poor hillbillies to pin it down on."
"Respectfully, sir," piped up Hernandez, "Everyone who was within the area during the crime's occurrence is, and nothing was stolen-"
Reinhart shut him up with an authoritative wave of the hand. "Mr. Williams, I can charge you with criminal misdemeanor for refusing to cooperate," he barked.
Earl smiled. "I can also legally shoot you for trespassin', and so long as I claim fear of bodily harm the law is on my side."
It was at this point the two realized that the object leaning against Earl's chair was a shotgun and not a cane.
"We ain't got nothin' for ya, gentlemen," he said definitively. "Be a little more willin' if you'd done the same for every person that's disappeared from this mountain these past few decades, not just for city slickers whose daddies got dough."
Reinhart, seething from the insolence, turned away and marched back the way they came.
Hernandez braved Earl's hostile stare and placed his card on the damp porch. "Should you change your mind," he said. "Give me a call."
Earl leaned forward and read the name printed on the expensive cardstock.
Angel Hernandez
When the men had gone, he brought out his cellphone and sent a warning message to Skulk.
They're comin' up to the trailer, boy. Make yourself scarce.
Tumblr media
Skulk had a habit of stealing Darrell's hoodies. They smelled like him and were warm, which was great for the weather they currently had going.
He got the message just as the detectives broke through the bushes. They narrowly passed him, sitting in a thicket as he was. Jebediah the little piglet, was sleeping soundly in his lap, remnants of a treat still hanging from his snout.
Skulk watched the detectives inspect Darrell's empty trailer. The older one kicked some of the sweet potatoes the naughty boars had dug from the vegetable patch. Skulk opened his and Darrell's conversation, filled with lewd little nothings they had sent back and forth. He typed:
On a more serious note, darling - there's pigs snooping about the trailer and not the usual kind.
The younger detective brought out a flashlight and peered through the tinted windows.
Had he locked the door?
Carefully shifting to his feet, though still remaining crouched, Skulk unsheathed his knife. Vibrating from the thrill of a possible kill, he waited. The second those cops opened the door, he would break cover. He could take them. One after the other.
The bigger man made him hesitate, but he was going to try. He'd left clothes there - unwashed clothes and tools of the trade. They all tried to be careful, but who's to say for certain the detectives won't find anything?
"Try the door," said one of them.
Jebediah stirred. The underbrush gave as Cristabella, grunting, arrived to take her brother home. Skulk bit his lip and held her mouth shut.
Incensed, Cristabella shook Skulk off. Her attention shifted to the strangers, and began to growl.
"What was that?"
Bellowing, Cristabella charged right at them. She bowled through them, knocking them clean off their feet. She was at them again, ramming her cutter tusks at their torsos. Clothes were shredded, yells rang, but the men were quick to get on their feet and they eventually got away.
Skulk watched, the squealing piglet under his arm, as Cristabella snorted in satisfaction as if to say Come back with a warrant.
Ava, Bo, and Darrell liked to hang out at the garage. Winds were picking up, blowing from the coast. Establishments were closed. Folk were told to remain indoors.
Ava and Darrell sat together while Bo tinkered with the engine of a sedan. He'd been trying to make it work for the past week. He couldn't fathom what he was doing wrong. The out of key strumming Darrell was doing on Ava's beat up acoustic wasn't helping.
Fed up, Bo unstuck his head from under the hood and winced at the two.
"Darrell, Darrell," he groaned. "You're never gonna learn to play with those clumsy fingers. Give that dang thing back to Ava."
Ava giggled and took her guitar back. "Don't listen to him," she told Darrell. "You'll get it, but won't you sing with me a while?"
She positioned her willowy fingers on the fretboard. Darrell returned her pick and she began to play.
Once the intro passed, Darrell followed through. The way the two friends' voices melded together was ethereal. Bo stopped in his tracks.
You go down just like Holy Mary
Mary on a, Mary on a cross
Mary on a, Mary on a cross
"Your beauty never ever scared me" Surprised, Ava looked up. She'd never heard Bo sing before. His voice was clear and cool, but higher in pitch than his speaking voice.
All three of them sang the last lines together, voices blending into a lovely harmony.
"Didn't know you had that in you," Ava teased.
Bo smirked and turned away. "Stick to singing, Darr. Leave the music to Ava."
To thwart the attention from himself, Bo turned up the radio. They listened attentively to another weather update, which was followed by a local news report.
Meanwhile, at Devil's Peak, the search for missing college students, Brody Morgan and Carter Green, continues. Police authorities race against the oncoming hurricane to uncover as much information about the boys' current whereabouts.
Brody Morgan is the son of media mogul, Arthur Morgan. Detective Lesley Reinhart assures the public that the New Orleans Police Department is doing everything in its power to find the boys.
Bo's ears burned. Three paces away, Darrell continued to sing softly to Ava's guitar, but he could see it: a tremble of the lip, a glassy faraway look in the eye. Guilt. Worry.
Darrell appeared to have not heard, but Bo knew he was listening closely.
That night, Bo roused Vincent out of bed, like a spectre at his bedside. They came to a shaky agreement behind the house.
"If we do it now, it'll be the end of it."
"Wait. I'm not too sure. Let me talk to him."
Vincent scoffed - a harsh nasal puff. "You think he'll admit to it? Idiot."
Bo grabbed him by the shirt. "You don't move til I say you can."
All was quiet and gray the next day. Percy sat at the dining table, her fingers clacked busily on the keyboard as she wove a new chapter. She peered over her glasses at the amassing clouds from the window. "This must be what they mean by 'the calm before the storm'," she remarked.
Darrell was sitting in the chair next to her, poring over one of the books she had written. "You made Halloran look like Bo," he noted with an amused smile.
"I did." She watched him fondly. She reached over and pushed a stray strand of hair from his face. "You know what, maybe I should give Halloran a sidekick."
Darrell looked up, brown eyes gleaming.
"I think I have an idea on what he might look like."
Darrell put down the book and rested his chin on her shoulder. He squinted at the walls of text on her document. "That's a whole lotta words, Momma," he sighed.
Percy smiled, feeling rather proud of herself. "No big feat, to me. What do you think so far?"
Darrell gave it a good, careful read. He sighed softy, blown away. "Shucks, I dunno how you do it."
There was an urgent hammering at the window. Michael stood outside. He held a grubby baseball in his hand.
"Be right back, Momma," said Darrell.
"Hey, Mikey," he said at the door. "Don't think it's good weather to play catch in. Alia won't approve."
Michael stared up at him, lips sealed. He tilted his head and raised the ball again. His posture hinting that he wasn't asking.
"Ok."
Darrell took the ball and the glove he had brought. In their game, Darrell was the only one who did the throwing and catching. Michael would hit the ball as hard as he could with a bat, and watch as Darrell struggled to catch it. Peak entertainment.
"Further?" Darrell called from down the street, the House of Wax behind him.
Michael kept pointing at him to go further. He was going to knock the ball right out of town. Darrell reeled back and pitched. The bat hit the ball with a deafening thwack!
It rode the air like a comet. Arching high, Darrell knew chasing after it was futile. Then, it dipped, whistling, and crashed through one of the lower windows of the House of Wax.
The glove slipped off of Darrell's hand. Michael turned on his heels and let the bat clatter on the street. In case they incurred Vincent's wrath, he was detaching himself from the incident.
Darrell picked his way through the wasteland of discarded car parts, cut through a crack in a wooden fence, and entered the House of Wax.
The door swung right open and he crossed the slightly dusty threshold. He was greeted by a main room glowing with yellow lamps, filled with intricate carvings that he knew for a fact were all wax. In an odd trick of the eye, the bulbs seemed to fill the room with shadow more than light. The result was dismal and bleak.
Darrell's thoughts strayed unhappily as he eyed the sculptures. It was as though the misery stored in that room was seeping into his bones. Distracted, he went from one display to another, admiring the detail of each handiwork.
Vincent was so talented. He and Ellie went together perfectly. If only he could understand what he had done that made him so angry.
There was a rapid clicking on the floor. He recognized it at once as the padding of an animal. Jonesy, tail wagging and mouth bearing the rogue ball, watched him from a safe distance.
Darrell dropped to a crouch. "Hey, girl! Good job! Give it here."
Jonesy tucked tail and ran.
"Hey, no! Come back!" Darrell gave chase and stumbled from one room to another.  Jonesy girl, no! I'm not supposed to be in here."
He came upon the back of the building, past an elaborately decorated dining room, and into a doorway that led to the basement.
There were sconces in the walls, housing steadily burning candles. Embedded among these were different faces, each with a unique expression. Darrell followed the faces upwards and looked overhead. Spanning the ceiling, her eight spindly legs astride the stairway, was Arachne - Horrid, freakish, and beautiful all at once. Face smooth with youth. Bosom full and immodestly bare. Eyes hungry. Head held high with pride.
"What is this place?" muttered Darrell.
Bark! Jonesy had dropped the ball at the bottom of the stairs.
Darrell crept down the steps. As he was reaching for the ball, Jonesy's jaws snapped at his wrist and she made off with the ball again. He walked into the room. It felt like a furnace. Great, big cauldrons of wax hung on chains over large fires. Knives, saws, and sculpting tools hung on the walls. A bloodstained steel table stood in the middle of the room.
But worst of all, there was a figure - human-shaped - suspended in a macabre iron contraption.
Darrell was pulled to it by some sick fascination. He thought he could see the glimmer of an eye under the rough wax, blue and bright. He stood inspecting the thing, heart hammering.
Its fingers twitched, and Darrell screamed.
He spun around and found himself face to face with Vincent. There was a knife in his hand.
Darrell interposed the table between them and made a run for the stairs after circling it twice. Vincent tried to grab him by the hair but missed.
Darell ran right into Michael in the dining room. The taller man stepped in and locked Vincent's wrist in a crushing grip.
Crack!
Vincent had landed a punch on Michael's jaw. Michael recovered almost immediately and was able to grab the blade of the knife just as it was about to pierce his side. Blood dribbled onto the floor.
He changed his hold on the blade, used his free hand to hold Vincent's arm, and knocked the weapon out of his grasp.
When he looked back, Darrell was gone. He was sprinting down Main Street, sweating, panting, heart hammering. He understood it now - why the town had felt so empty, why the girls had tried to keep him entertained indoors at all times, why the sculptures looked so real.
Lester found him sitting on the curb sometime after dinner. "Y'alright there, buddy?" he inquired cheerfully.
Darrell did not respond.
Lester sat down beside him. "I, uh, heard what happened."
"S'Mikey ok?"
"Yep. Didn't feel a thing, Alia said. He's been patched up." Lester took a crumpled pack from his pocket and lit a cigarette.
"Ya in on it, Les?"
Lester did not respond.
"Y'know," Lester began, "What we do out here, we been doin' it a long time. An' ya know, you can get used ta anythin' if you're 'round it long enough. It ain't easy to put it down."
He blew the smoke out and brought Darrell's attention to the cigarette. The red glowing tip flickered as he waved it around.
"It's like quitttin', ya know?" he explained, "Ya can't just do it."
Darrell was nodding. He knew how that felt.
"Besides, this is my family," Lester added, "I love them. More than anythin'."
Darrell had begun to think of them as his family, too. It had felt too good to be true.
"Here's one for ya. Those missing kids, d'you do that?"
Darrell glanced sideways at Lester. There was no judgment in his eyes, no hate like in Vinny's. His expression was open, sincere.
"D'you kill 'em?"
Darrell resigned himself and said, "Killed more than just them."
"Are you gonna stay with us?"
"Can I?"
"Sure!"
There was thunder overhead. They raised their eyes to the sky. Lester grinned. "Anyway, with that comin', you ain't goin' nowhere."

Do have any thoughts on Miguel being a parent? Loved your Chico parent ideas!
AHHH yessss! You could tell after Miguel truly understood what it meant to bring a life into the world that he wanted to be a dad.
(Also thank you so much🥹❤️ Love me some Papa Chico)
Miguel Alvarez as a Parent would include…
Tumblr media
After Miguel lost his son, he was broken. Broken because he knew it was his fault.
He was seventeen when he got Maritza pregnant. Senior Prom.
At sixteen he was running with the local gangs. At eighteen he was in prison. In those two years there was unprotected sex and drugs and violence. Anything to give him that high.
When his kid is born, there’s a break in the clouds; a reason to change.
Only too little too late. 💔
When he gets a chance to do it again, he does it for his son.
Miguel is not a neglectful father by any means. If anything he’s a little helicopter-y at first.
He encourages his kids into extracurriculars; anything to keep them off the streets.
If they play sports, he’s at every game/match. 🏀⚽️
If they do theatre, he’s got a playbill in one hand and a bouquet of flowers in the other. 🎭
Miguel is surprisingly artistic and I think his kids would love the drawings he does on their lunch notes.
He packs their lunch, doesn’t matter who his partner is. (If he has one)
Like season one Miguel wouldn’t do this but season six totally would; his kids have bento boxes and sometimes they have themes or colors for the day. 🧃
Purple bentos with ube cookies and grapes and jelly sandwiches.
Finds exotic snacks and stuff for them to try: different instant ramens and chocolates and whatnot.
“Today’s theme is Egypt!”
Watches Veggie Tales with them a lot. Knows all the words to “I Love My Duck”.
A Snoodle’s Tale always makes him cry.
Keeps a stash of different jellies and peanut butters to make the perfect PB and J for his kids.
“One strawberry and smooth, one grape and chunky, one…”
Kind of a parent who doesn’t mind picky eaters and just rolls with it.
Makes pancakes in different shapes.
“Smiley face coming up!”😭❤️‍🩹
He can’t tell his kids enough how much school is worth.
God knows he can’t help with their homework but he always tries
Gets his kids involved in academic pursuits
Makes flash cards with little drawings; basically takes the classes with his kids.
They’re bilingual too; he speaks Spanish at home to help them
Is a stay at home dad/works from home
When he’s working, he puts on Law and Order, and his older kids like to watch while he works.
Miguel knows all the endings and accidentally spoils it often😂
Gets them gifts on every holiday. They wake up to flowers on Valentine’s Day, chocolate bunnies on Easter, and even cinnamon rolls on Groundhog’s Day.
He just looks for a reason to let them know they’re loved.
Didn’t hear that growing up. His dad was in prison, his mom was kind of a hardass. So he doesn’t want there to be any confusion for his kids.
When they get in trouble at school, he overreacts. It scares him that they might make the same mistakes he did.
“I’m saving ten years of your life. Don’t fuck this up.”
When his kids get As in school, he has a full on celebration at home, even if they’re used to it. 🎉🥳
When his kids are bullied, his heart aches.
He remembers how the Latinos in prison treated him.
“I know what you’re going through, kid. I can’t tell you it always gets better, but you’ll find people who appreciate you, and those other people will kind of just fade away.”❤️‍🩹
If his kid comes out to him (sexuality or gender wise) he’s as supportive as he can be.
“I don’t know much about this stuff, kiddo. But… you’re my kid and I’m here for you.”
He respects their pronouns and their significant other’s pronouns. It may take him a minute but he’s trying.
His kids’ favorite thing to do with their father is the dishes; he turns on loud music and they sing and dance as they get their chores done.
He’s not especially strict, but when he puts his foot down he’s immovable.
His kids disagree sometimes but knows it comes from a place of love.
Unlike Chico, he’s fairly transparent with his kids about his past.
When he has to have the drug talk, he admits he used and it was the most confusing time of his life. He tells them he knows they’re going to make their own decisions, but hopes his honesty deters them a little.
He hopes if he’s honest with them, they feel like they can go to him with everything.
Has a policy where they can calm him drunk and as long as they don’t try to drive they come home without punishment.
Kind of a parent who allows his kids to go to the birthday party but not sleep over. He just gets nervous.
He holds “sleepovers” every weekend night when he and his kids set up the living room with snacks and pillows and blanket forts and watch movies all night.🎥
Goes to classes as an adult to get his GED/degree. He just wants his kids ti be proud of him.
And they are. His kids brag about him all the time. How their dad beat drugs and prison. How their dad survived.
“Youre so hard on yourself, daddy. We’re proud of you.”🥰
His mom loves her grandkids. She’s an intimidating abuela but she loves those damn kids.
When they get sick, Miguel takes off work and stays with them all day. He makes them chicken soup, looking up a recipe on his phone, plays Disney movies all day no matter how old they are, and gives them snuggles when they have a fever.
He adopts a dog for them and names her/him Julie/Donald.
The dog eats like a damn queen/king, and he enjoys preparing fun pupp-reciation treats for her/him.
When his mom offers to watch the kids while he goes on vacation, he spends the whole time calling home and asking about them. 😅
Like Chico has the Tickle Police, Miguel has Boo Boo Bear; a cheap stuffed bear he cut open the backside to and stuffed an ice pack in. 🧸
He tells people as long as his kids are healthy and happy, he’s happy.
When his kids accomplish anything, he’s in the audience, and they thank him.
They thank him for all the hours of care he’s given them.
The unconditional support.
“My Dad is my biggest hero, because he really truly did get out of Oz.”❤️❤️❤️
Bonus: When his kids are old enough to date, Miguel is actually really nice to their significant others. Like, he’ll invite them for dinner, learn things about them, and tell them to call him Dad or Mr. Miguel.

Hey!!!
I wanna ask since I'm kinda very curious
Info dump about your Fang ver? :D?
Like, literally any headcanon or facts that makes them stand out from the og fang, I wanna learn more!! —∞
AWWWW you live in my head rent free now <3
INFO DUMP I SHALL!!
General Info: 21 years old, lives in Flickies’ Island along with Bark and Bean, he/she pronouns work, Big Gender (meaning that he looks like a girl but isn’t), Bisexual :>
Funny/Fun Info: HE CANNOT SPELL, he spells his own name Fng. Fang is Latino, because so was his family. Even though he is feared as a criminal, he can’t steal really good, it’s more so Bean and Bark committing the crimes. Fang also is apparently wanted for 1 billion dollars (yes that one gift I got made me think), he definitely acts more serious on certain levels but he really just is a goofy goober. He’s OBSESSED with Miss Mirachi and dinosaurs, if you couldn’t tell, his outfit is reminiscent of Mirachi’s. And about the dinosaur thing, he snuck into a theatre JUST for Jurassic Park & he usually gets dino plushes for his birthday. XD
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Lore: He grew up with his family at Steampunk Saddle, essentially his mother did not like the life she had (she wanted to adventure more than stay home). This builds up to her kicking Fang and his father out, with them kinda on the streets. His father decided to try to settle in Casinopolis, but Fang was lost somehow. His father thought that he must’ve lost Fang along the journey, so he traveled backwards, TURNS OUT, Fang already reached Casinopolis. He was maybe 10 at the time where he met Bean. The two became great friends and kinda were trash kids. Bark found the kids in a trash can and straight up adopted them. Years pass by, only then would his father catch up to Fang (which was Nack so heheh “MY NAME IS NOT NA-”) & he would figure out more about his family. Family such as Nic (Barrette), Konor, Karl, Jeffery, etc. :’]
Just little things: His favorite kind of music is disco, so you bet he loves ABBA and Beegees. :] Fang usually just stays home while his family steals, but when he’s rebellious, he goes outside to clubs or something. His Mirachi fan phase started around 15. He totally uses his heels for violence XD IT’S THE SHARPEST HEEL I DESIGNED SO FAR LIKE WHA-
TYSM FOR THIS <3 <3

So got curious and tried That 90s Show despite the shit reviews. I gotta give they nailed ‘90s’: Kitty’s decor, 70s holdover hair do, white trash moms, etc. the 4th of July was such a deal back then, i just figured it was rural not 90s.
Donkey Kong was a fail tho (graphics were 10 years too advanced). And i maintain (as i was in rural hell in the 90s) no small town in Wisconsin would have that much diversity then…or now. I mean its more likely now but unheard of back then (our shit town started gossiping about latinos coming to town, there were like 3 of them and they were all presumed Mexican but i dont think they were. Same with an asian family. No other poc dared fuck up to live there.)
And trust me: no kid would dare be openly gay in places like that back then (where i was living then regularly STILL steals pride flags and destroys them yes 2023. I was constantly assumed gay cuz no guys wanted me and i was lucky it was just being ostracized, not violence). The gay kid makes me think of Bobby Lee playing gay and its…odd. Like they just picked another ethnic kid to fey up and talk weird without being a full character.
Im glad no Hyde (fuck that rapist) but i think they should have mentioned him. I presume Gwen is his bastard child given the no longer would fly half black story line. I also wish they would’ve acknowledged Fez had been Laurie’s green card husband. Laurie should be features on Unsolved Mysteries. I cant believe parents (even ones thinking of her as evil) would just forget she existed or was missing.
And why did Fez go back to high voice? And why have they not explained wtf they’re still calling him Fez? Wilmer is creepy and looked high as a kite i dont really know why they brought him back.
Kitty and Red are delightful. Perfectly costumed and portrayed. Loved Leo! And Ashton and Mila seem to be having the time of their lives. Leia and Jay are perfectly cast as their parents kids. And if Gwen is one then her too.
Im sorry i dont believe a rrriot girl would go to a rave. There are a lot of plot holes. Frankly Nate and Gwen dont seem straigjy and Leia seems like shes way more into Gwen than Jay.
But Jay seems like a good character. Kelso is right he got his mom’s brains cuz Kelso was waaay too dumb. And they dealt with Jackie and Fez but not Fez and Laurie or even weirder Kelso’s other baby? I hate when these retcon shows just pick the most random shit to keep (like Conners kept Harris and Crystal’s kids but Andy and Jerry dont exist…maybe…jerry gets one shout out.)

Listen I'm not going to lie, the TV series pickings are SLIM and the shows that does is gay look pretty dire (Watch Spec Ops: Lioness, a bw/bw love story that's mostly about the women's work as gritty brave dark tortured heroic US spies who are also The Troops, now streaming on Paramount+).
But film! Queer cinema!!!! There is so much good gay art! Some of it isn't even from the imperial core, that's how marginalized the queer voices you'll be hearing from are!
Incomplete List of Heterogeneous Queer Films from 2023:
Strange Way of Life (Latino lead, iconic gay director Pedro Almodovar)
Cassandro (Mexican film, biopic overwhelmingly Latino cast, also look up the real Cassandro and watch some highlights from his matches imo)
Mutt (trans man protagonist played by transmasc actor)
Nyad (old white lesbian swimmers)
Monica (trans woman protagonist played by a trans woman)
Joyland - Pakistani film about a trans woman Biba, her straight suitor Haider, and his wife Mumtaz
Frybread Face and Me - Diné kid who is lowkey shamed/punished for liking ~girl stuff~ too much is sent to live on a reservation with his grandmother and cousin. Instead of becoming "manlier" from the ranch chores he learns to do, he instead finds room to breathe, love and acceptance in Diné culture, whose gender concepts and roles are different enough from settlers' that he isn't bullied or "corrected" when he plays with dolls or talks about Fleetwood Mac or hangs out with his cousin Dawn instead of finding a male best friend or a girlfriend. (Is this queer? I don't know but I'm putting it on here because it's a film about the violence and coercion faced by anybody doing their assigned gender "wrong," and how it starts before sexuality, before puberty, at a point in childhood where "boys" and "girls" are differentiated mainly by their hair, clothes and friend group.)
Nimona (animated film adaptation of the beloved comic about a bitey shapeshifting genderfuck goblin and its new gay dad villainous mentor. Trans author.)
Bottoms (sex comedy starring 2 queer teens played by queer women - Rachel Sennott and Ayo Edibiri)

Hip Hop: Culture Or Commodity
Tumblr media
It’s 2023. We’ve entered the 50th year of hip-hop culture.
Or have we? Is it more appropriate to say, “We’ve entered the 50th year of hip-hop commodity?”
Like many of you, since childhood, I’ve embraced the narrative that DJing, MCing, breaking and graffiti were born out of the tenets of peace, love, unity and having fun.
But, today, as a grown man who’s well-read, who has cultivated the power of discernment, and who thinks his own thoughts, I question if that old narrative was merely a marketing strategy; one which was sold to me, and that I “bought,” as a young, impressionable kid, growing up in Queens, NY.
I raise this question, because much of the culture today, while designed to look authentic, seems to merely be an aspect of one, or another, marketing strategy.
Let me explain what I mean, via my own story:
I was born on May 14, 1972. I’m one year older than the culture. Of course, I wasn’t there, watching Kool Herc at the first “Back To School Jam,” on Sedgwick Ave in the Bronx, on August 11, 1973.
But thanks to my older brother, John, by the age of 5, my hip-hop education had begun. Granted, what I was learning about through my bro’s tutelage actually had no name in 1977. It was just this thing some of us called “Getting Down,” or “Going Off,” or “Jamming.”
But, in fact, it was an art renaissance, taking place in the Bronx, and spilling over into the surrounding boroughs of Queens, Brooklyn, and Manhattan.
youtube
By 1979, at age 7, I was all in.
“Robert: You hear that sound? Ziggaziggazigga? That’s GrandWizzard Theodore scratching the record. Papi doesn’t get back from work for another couple of hours. Let’s turn on his turntables so I can teach you how to scratch before he gets home.”
Or “Robert, I’m taking you with me to Saint Joan of Arc Church. The head priest is gonna let us break inside their recreation room.”
I was learning about this creative phenomenon, exclusive to New York, taking place inside my city, my community, my neighborhood, and with my friends.
youtube
Thanks to programs like HOT TRACKS — which played music videos from artists like RUN DMC and Malcolm McClaren feat. The World’s Famous Supreme Team — by 1982, the rest of America got exposed. People outside of NYC began seeing the faces and hearing the voices of my ghetto heroes.
“Ghetto,” because Kool Herc, Grandmaster Flash, GrandWizzard Theodore, Grand Mixer DST, Tony Tone, Charlie Chase, etc., didn’t look like the Six Million Dollar Man or the Lone Ranger. They looked like my brother. They looked like my brother’s friends. They looked like my friends. They looked like my family — people who lived in a one-bedroom, tenement building apartment, infested with mice and roaches. They looked like me!
By 1983, documentaries like Style Wars aired on PBS. The news media began to chronicle what inner-city Black and Latino kids were doing — DJing, rapping, breaking, graffiti — on any given NYC block. The film industry was even intrigued: Movies like Wild Style and Beat Street were made available for people to experience inside air-conditioned, downtown theaters. This was far away from the warzone, benign-neglect aesthetic of hip-hop’s epicenter, The Bronx, NY.
They even had a name for it, by now. They were calling the union of these four forces, “hip-hop.” This thing that low-income, underprivileged youth had created as an alternative to crime and violence — gangs ran NYC during the 1970s — finally had an official name. However, that meant it could also, now, be packaged in a proverbial box, gift-wrapped, complete with bow, and sold for mass consumption.

Enter, 1984: The Year Hip-Hop Culture Became Hip-Hop Commodity.
Graffiti was washed away from its home, the NYC subway system, and transposed to art galleries. There, wealthy collectors would buy canvases to hang inside their multi-million-dollar luxury apartments. Breaking got so played out, you’d be laughed out of a house party if you attempted a windmill.
Even DJs, the very people credited for creating hip-hop, were coerced into subordinate positions to their counterparts, as hip-hop’s principal, gold and platinum ornament became The Rapper. Soon, DJs were replaced in live performance by “backing tracks.” But it wasn’t the audiences that asked for this change. It was the larger, business infrastructure, dominating hip-hop, which brought it about.
youtube
Thus, if you’re Gen Z, you may not be aware that during the 1990s, my Gen X generation of DJs waged a rebellion, and reclaimed its ownership of hip-hop. Therefore, that time is now considered hip-hop’s “Golden Era.”
Players like the X-ecutioners, Invisibl Skratch Piklz, and the Beat Junkies regained control of the distribution and monetization of hip-hop, at least within DJing. We started our own record labels, promotion companies, and played an integral role in booking one-off shows and tours; events that put the focus back on other neglected elements like breaking and graffiti as well. In the simplest terms: Between 1990 and 2000, DJ culture revitalized hip-hop.
youtube
It’s the 2000s now. The generation of DJs who stepped into the forefront after mine, have, once again relinquished power to outsiders. But the difference in 2023, when compared to 1983, is, today, business and marketing experts will go as far as disguising themselves as DJs, in order to capitalize on the stock of hip-hop culture.
Tumblr media
Here’s how it works: They’ll join a DJ school, and take a few lessons on dropping, mixing and scratching. The next thing you know, they’re influencers, telling aspiring DJs — who genuinely want to learn the art form — what kind of gear to buy, and what apps to run while DJing. If an economically challenged kid from the Bronx can’t afford that $3,000 laptop, or can’t drop $2,000 on the latest mixer, well, they inform them, they’ll just be “left in the dust.”
Tumblr media
The indecency of it all is this: People who listen to these influencers have no awareness they are, effectively, being colonized. They do not know the very worldview being pushed upon them — that they will be banished if they can’t keep up economically — serves the function of making their ultimate elimination look benign. They do not know these are outsiders, who’ve successfully infiltrated hip-hop, specifically DJ culture, bearing gifts; ones who are, at every second, exploiting it, and them, for monetary gain.
So, here we are. It’s the opening month of the year marking hip-hop’s 50th anniversary; another year overgrown with “DJs” turned influencers. These are the ones who don’t respect hip-hop’s legacy of economic inclusion, this being a philosophy embedded in the culture by the pioneers on whose shoulders we stand.
At this point, what am I saying should be done?
I’m suggesting the following two (2) action steps.
If you’re going to become a DJ, or teach DJing:
• Examine our culture first. Interact with it. Learn its history, document it, and teach it correctly, to others. Name its great artists and tell what they did to advance the art form. Don’t merely and unethically profiteer off hip-hop’s resources for “LIKES”, “FOLLOWS,” and Benjamins.
• Refrain from using fear-mongering tactics to attract students, or to cash in on DJing, and the greater culture of hip-hop.
In closing:
This essay grew out of a social media conflict I’ve been having over specific forms of marketing, aimed at students of the culture. As should be clear, I strongly object to these practices.
This is not a statement against any person, or group of persons. Further, this is not a statement against the people who follow my work, or, especially, the ones who don’t.
If you are a true supporter of hip-hop culture — not the rah-rah around it, but the science and history of it — I thank you. I particularly thank you if that interest has led you to give an ear to what I have ever said or done.
I stand on all the above. If, because of what I’ve said, I lose colleagues, followers, students, sponsorships or should I be slandered, vilified, shunned or become abject, while it would be unfortunate, I do not care. I am aligned with a much Higher Power, and higher values, than those with which the current DJ world aligns itself.
I stand firm in the truth of my words, even if they are disconcerting, because I understand the following: There is an economic and creative war, happening in plain sight, for the control of how people think and interact, not only with DJ art and technology, but with themselves, and with their own minds.
For that reason, I’ll never go along with fake shit, to get along with fake shit. Instead, I dig in my heels for what I see as right and just.
Regardless of the circumstances, I will always stay, and reside, in truth and in respect. That is the legacy of the pioneers, and, as far as my part is concerned, understand: I’m just trying to help this art form get to the next generation, intact.
Happy 50th, hip-hop.

80's Watch: Running Scared (1986)
Watched:  01/17/2023
Format:  HBOmax
Viewing:  Unknown
Director:  Peter Hyams
Running Scared (1986) was a movie I remember watching a bunch during the window when we had whatever movie channel carried it in the late 1980's, which is the last time I watched the film.   I haven't really missed it, but it kept coming up thanks to the power of Michael McDonald's "Sweet Freedom".  And, Jamie had never seen it and got tired of me saying "yeah, we could watch that some time."  So, we did.
I have no idea how the movie was considered when I was a kid.  I'm not looking up reviews or box office now.  As a middle-schooler, of course I loved loose cannon, wise-cracking cops who get to shoot guns, get into shenanigans and are repeatedly shown to be right.  As an adult, this is a movie about wise-cracking cops repeatedly abusing their authority, engaging in police brutality, tampering with evidence, getting witnesses and stoolies killed, stealing from the evidence locker, refusing to follow basic procedure, and never having to explain major shoot outs and acts of violence.  It is wiiiiiild.  This was what we wanted to watch in the 1980's.
The film is also constantly asking "so, this isn't racist, right?"  But, man, we sure had no problem showing the only Latinos in a movie as crooks or aiding crooks.
To say it hasn't aged well is an understatement.
The basic plot is that Chicago's loosest of loose cannon cops are made to take vacation after stepping on the toes of a different vice sting (and establishing our villain in Jimmy Smits).   They've always been "shoot first and ask questions later" guys about their own safety. but while in Key West, they impulsively buy a bar and plan to retire in 30 days.  As short-timers, they suddenly realize they could get shot and die.  Thus the title.  But it doesn't really effect the plot for more than, like, twice.
The movie is pitched as an action-comedy, but is short on both.  It's a long movie, and it didn't really need to be because it's a movie that doesn't really have anything interesting to say, and is a basic "cops catch drug kingpin" film that was being churned out every week back in the 1980's.*
It's not that it's not funny at all.  It's sorta funny, but it basically feels like bits of improv more than any focused effort to be a comedy.  The violence is sporadic and feels out of whack from how the mugging Crystal and Hines are up to, so when they get super serious at the end of the film, you're kinda-like "you two dipshits have been yukking it up and putting the entire city of Chicago in danger every twenty minutes this whole movie, and now you're concerned?"
Crystal does his familiar stuff from the era, Hines is charming.  We're told both are more physically appealing than I would guess they are.  And it's a reminder that roles for women in 1986 were mostly to stand around and shake heads at the antics of our heroes.  It also has Joe Pantoliano, Dan Hedaya (of course), Jon Gries, Larry Hankin, and probably other 80's and 90's faces you might enjoy.
I didn't hate it, but it's more interesting as a dated artifact of a bygone era than as a good movie.  I dunno.  Maybe I'll watch it again in another 33 years.
But, hey, it's fun to see the Chicago of the 1980's that isn't in the Hughes-filmed mini-mansion North Side suburbs.
*I always found it peculiar that coked-up producers were making so many movies about stopping cocaine.  That would be like me making a movie about stopping a cheese-monger.

Basic White Bitch
Am I strange? Probably. Am I crazy? A little. Am I damaged goods? Most likely. But do I really ask for that much? I want a guy with all his hair who isn't dangerous or psychotic. I talk to all kinds of men. Latino, Asian, white, born in the city, born in the country, educated, dropouts, lawyers, fast food workers. I love bad boys but there is no one type that I restrict myself to. Good hair. Childfree. Stable. That's more or less what it comes down to. I like pretty boys like the one in this picture. Anything with European features and a pointy nose is gold.
But what do I find? Guys that want women to stomp on their nuts. Guys that cross-dress. I'm not kink-shaming anyone. But I can hold my own kinks aside forever if someone isn't into them and it doesn't bother me. These men base their lives on smoothly shaven bodies and stuffing themselves in tights and heels. Begging for degradation... or wanting a woman to degrade. Then there are the ones that pop up on background checks for domestic violence and child porn. It's not the area. The scope is set from NJ to WV but I get California to Canada messaging me too. Sure, a lot of it is spam but in the end everyone is so far out there or so far gone there's 0 potential.
I've worked on myself and I'm planning out my best future. I am not holier than thou but no one else is self-aware. Talking about how they can't control their bipolar disorder, talking about getting drunk and starting random fights, talking about how they've had 10 DUIs, talking about how they have kids they didn't mention on their profiles, talking about their ex they are hung up on, and talking about how I better give them money because feminism isn't cool. It never ends. And then all the hateful messages and sexual ones I get: DOESN'T ANYONE EVER LOOK AT THEIR OWN BEHAVIOR AND REALIZE THAT THEY ARE BEING INAPPROPRIATE, CREEPY, AND ABUSIVE? And don't say it's the internet, I've had guys at my store jobs walk up to me and say fucked up things too.
I want normal not batshit insane. Why can't a basic white bitch find a basic white boy? It should not be this insanely difficult.

i think tbh that the idea of neon genesis evangelion being a deconstruction of mecha or whatever is an english speaker perception. dark themes are not alien to the genre at all. but for several decades, mecha was mostly released in english was by chopping it up and changing the story, making it more kid friendly to english-speaking audiences. and while the colorful gaudy iconic super robots were originally designed to just look cool, ppl drew parallels between them and mainstream superheroes, and decided that super robots must also be upstanding heroic citizens. so the perception of super robots became this archetype of like, shallow ridiculousness with no complex plots and everything wrapped up in a neat moral at the end. tbh i think there was also an element of xenophobia wherein media of foreign origin is just perceived as lesser. fast forward to the 90s anime boom, and NGE seems completely original and of an unheard complexity — sparking endless arguments about the meaning of elements that were, by the creators admission, put in for shits n giggles
