#for my own curiosity #i learned cursive in elementary school but didnt really use it for most of my life #this past summer i made an effort to brush up on it and now it's my default #people say i have nice handwriting sometimes but i dont think my cursive is particularly clean. more so that it's just fancier than print #i know schools dont teach it as often anymore but i wonder what the general population is like on it #this is all contextualized by me being american and writing in english of course

Guys while hallucinating on my new meds, I came to the realization that Mihawk was out on the open seas as swordsman since he was a teenager maybe even younger…. Did he ever finish a normal education?

Scratch that did he even have a normal education? Does he know math? Can my guy tell me the quadratic formula? Like I think we all forget as individuals how much school taught us yes the school system is broken blah blah but guys we understand germ theory and how birds fly and chemistry and biology that people just 60 years ago wouldn’t have known and would have killed to know, like I’m sure he can write and I’m pretty sure he can read but does he know how the moon pulls the tide? Did he know the earth wasn’t flat until he saw a globe for the first time?

Have we as individuals been bamboozled by the stoic gothic refinement of luxury that Mihawk projects we completely overlooked they fact the guy probably doesn’t know salt is a rock? Like wanna bet he saw how cool the over the top refined gay goth was and just like tailored that too his vibe but he’s never actually read a classic in his life?

What I’m trying to get at is Shanks who grew up around some of the smartest people in the world who spoke multiple languages, one was a doctor and you know Rayliegh who definitely doubled as a quartermaster might have a higher education then Mihawk.

Like I think it would be funny if Shanks was the guy who read books on Philosophy and artistic historical movements throughout the world (cough to impress Mihawk cough) and Mihawk doesn’t know how fish breathe underwater and has never read anything higher the a YA novel. (Which are awesome books but talk about reading a book by its cover! Lol… I’ll see myself out.)

you know i watched atla in russian because it was on the tv, and i thought Ozai’s name was Azai, because that’s how they pronounce it, so for some time, baby me thought that in this family there was a correlation between a name starting with Az (Azai, Azula, and Azulon) and being evil, and having Iroh (who i thought was Airo and in russian it was indeed Airo) and Zuko not be evil seemed to prove me right

#i also thought that because Iroh’s (Airo) name starts with A and Zuko’s name starts with Z both of them could have gone evil #like Iroh being a war general and Zuko’s behaviour in the beginning of the series #all of this happened before i started school because i remember explaining this to my parents #and i needed to write it out to show them #and i wrote in print letters because that was all i knew #and we start learning cursiv in first grade so it was before the fall i started elementary school

By "regularly" I mean "more often than not." Do you default to touch-typing over other methods of typing? Do you default to cursive over print?

Really random, but here's how I imagine the handwriting styles that both Jekyll & Hyde have (NOTE: I know that Hyde has his own handwriting shown in the movie and it's super chaotic, but I tried replicating that as best as I could here; while still retaining Jekyll's cleaner way of writing):

#for anyone who's nosy this is about the post that's bitching about the post about humans being able to memorize long poems/songs #the OP of the original post did Not mean 'humans lost the physical ability to memorize long-form narratives'#what they meant was 'with the ability to record those narratives in writing memorization is a less common skill for humans to have'#yes your pals in high school memorized the entirety of hamilton. they have the physical ability to do so. nobody's disputing that #the vast majority of skills that were 'lost' over time are actually just unpracticed #there are still people who do mental math. there are people memorizing the odyssey. i still write in cursive day to day #there are people spinning with drop spindles and messing around w phonographs etc etc etc #humans have an immense capacity for learning #that however does not change the fact that some skills are LESS COMMON NOW #which is what that post was about #as an aside. if you grew up with those uncommon skills - good for you. if you didn't but you'd like to have them - learn.#if your memory/ability to think is atrophying from AI or social media just fucking ditch that shit and start doing things yourself #read write watch films do art #it's gonna be slow at first and it's gonna suck ass but it's exercise. brain's a muscle. you're gonna get better at it

it does piss me off when people talk about zillenials/genz/people my age not knowing how to write cursive because they only type/are lazy/arent taught/whatever when they see me struggle with writing because like MAYBE thats the case for other zillenials but LEAVE ME out of it I CANT WRITE because i have a learning disability

#also i was taught cursive in school. a lot actually. more than some people even the same age as me LOL #they had us writing cursive for a whole year and pushing us to keep learning because 'by middle school you'll have to write it all the time #and then i got to middle school and no one gave a shit LOL no one was typing for in class assignments yet tho #only homework and also exceptions for tests if u have a learning disability (me)#they started loaning every student chromebooks in my school the year i graduated only <3 just missed it #but yeah it does piss me off when people (even people my age!!) try to go off about kids these days when they see me fail at writing #like GIRL speak for yourself
