Digiloikka: QR-koodit

Lähes jokainen meistä on varmasti törmännyt mustavalkoisiin, graafisiin neliöihin, joissa lukee “lue minut” erilaisissa mainoksissa, sanomalehdissä, bussipysäkillä ja esimerkiksi tuoteselosteiden yhteydessä. Toivottavasti mahdollisimman pian QR-koodeja myös löytyy Green City Farm:in pellolta Malmilta. 

Taustaa

QR-koodin juuret tulevat Japanista ja sen on kehittänyt Toyotan tytäryhtiö vuonna 1994. Keksinnön alkuperäinen tarkoitus oli helpottaa liukuhihnateollisuuden tuotannonseurantaa, mutta vuosien varrella QR-koodin käyttötarkoitus on laajentunut ja sitä käytetään nykyään hyvin erilaisiin tarpeisiin liike-elämässä kuin vapaa-ajallakin. 

Mikä ihmeen QR?

Lyhenne QR -tulee sanoista Quick Response ja tarkoittaa lyhyttä vastetta. QR- koodissa on linkki sen tekijän haluamalle www-sivulle ja näin käyttäjä pääsee katsomaan älylaitteensa avulla haluttua koodin sisältöä, mikä voi olla tekstiä, kuvia tai vaikkapa video. Koodi on kaksiulotteinen ja sisältää informaatiota vaaka- ja pystysuunnassa.

Miten homma siis toimii?

1. Tarvitset älylaitteen (puhelin, Ipad), jossa on kamera

2. Kuvaa kameralla QR-koodia

3. TA-DAA, ohjaudut sivustolle, josta näet sisällön.

Staattinen ja dynaaminen koodi

QR-koodeja on olemassa kahdenlaisia. Staattinen koodi tarkoittaa, että sen sisältö pysyy aina samana, eikä sitä voi enää muokata luonnin jälkeen. Dynaaminen koodi taas on muokattavissa uudelleen. 

Mitä ihmettä Green City Farm hyötyisi QR-koodeista?

Oletkin varmasti jo tässä vaiheessa tutustunut siihen, mikä Green City Farm oikein on. Mielestämme pellolle tulisi pystyttää useampia QR-koodilla varustettuja tolppia, joiden avulla pellolla vierailijat voisivat oppia lisää pellolla tapahtuvista asioista eri vuodenaikoina. Tämän lisäksi tietoa olisi saatavilla myös eri kohdissa kasvavista kasveista video-, kuva- sekä tekstimuodossa. Tämän lisäksi vierailijat tutustuisivat myös Green City Farmin tarinaan ja ideologiaan, sekä pellon avainhenkilöihin videon avulla! Tämä olisi uudenlainen ja hauska tapa oppia ja samalla voi nauttia luonnosta.

Creatures of Dark Manor is a quick memory game for young kids and families about exploring a castle filled with spooky creatures from MJ Games. The few special cards in the game allow players to do things like swap cards around and peek at some cards make this game more interesting for adults to play without making the game too complicated or confusing for kids. Suggested age is 8 and up, however reading is not required so I think kids as young as 5 or 6 will be able to enjoy this game if they aren't afraid of the scary theme and art. So proud of Taj, who worked so hard on his reading and writing today. We are focusing on reading simple texts using 1:1 correspondence, letter sounds & picture cues to work out the text. Taj already has so many great reading strategies in place and he has a great love of reading picture books too! It was back to nature for the Three Beans today, with a Sensory Nature Walk/Scavenger Hunt (combined with some mini-beast spotting) on our daily exercise walk. We always used to go for walks anyway, but, now that they’re considered a luxury, it’s amazing to see how much more attention they pay to their surroundings! They really wanted to stop to examine EVERYTHING in detail! We used as many of our senses as possible on our walk and talked about what we could: -See (Sight) - from the big things like the trees and the things we were actively trying to spot on our list, to even the tiniest details with our magnifying glasses. Could they spot something bright, something colourful, something tall, short etc. -Smell (Olfactory) - the flowers, plants, the soil...we even found some wild garlic! I asked them if they could find something that smelt sweet, stinky, pretty, fruity etc. -Hear (Auditory) - how many different birds could we hear singing? The ducks, something moving in the bushes, leaves rustling, the wind, could they hear something loud/quiet/nearby/far away etc. -Feel (Touch) - the sun on our faces, the wind in our hair, the different textures on the trees as we felt the bark and leaves and encountered some sap, could they find something sharp/spiky/smooth/soft/slippery etc. I encouraged them to be as descriptive as possible to open up opportunities for vocabulary development too. We downloaded an app on my phone to help us out with identifying all the different plants and flowers we came across (as Mummy was struggling a bit with some of them! 😂) and have taken pictures to start a scrapbook so that we can start a project together and keep track too. 😊 - A great opportunity to develop those fine motor and literacy skills; through cutting, sticking and writing about their findings and experiences. We didn’t want to pick too many wild flowers, but, we did bring a few small samples home with us for further investigation and an afternoon of potion-making!...before breaking out the paddling pool and enjoying a BBQ! Koh Tao has been all sunrises, scuba diving and sunsets. I have been here for about a week and half now. So far I have gone through my PADI open water certification and my advanced dives as well. The PADI was a lot of learning and practicing skills but it was enough to push me to do my advanced training as well.  I began the advanced course on my birthday and it consisted of learning more buoyancy control, such as maintaining control while even floating upside down! We also had a navigation course in order to learn how to get around divesites on our own. Then to top of the end of my birthday we went out for a nightdive. This was probably top 2 of my dives so far, it was so amazing to go from just when the sun was setting and then out of nowhere you look around and its almost pitch black except for everyones flashlights! The amount of colors that reveal themselves during this time compared to the day time is unreal. I couldn’t have imagined a better way to spend my birthday! The next day we continued the course and did a 30m (100′) dive just to learn how to get down that low and see how it feels. The visibility wasn’t great but it prepared us for our final dive which consisted of going down between 25m and 30m in order to explore an old US warship from WW2. The visibility again was not that great but we got to see something from a very important time in human beings history. We also got to swim through a small section on the top of the ship! Very fascinating so far! 

I am continuing my training with a rescue course tomorrow and have been contemplating just staying here and continuing to learn until I go back to work sometime next month! 

I wish I had some pictures of the underwater section of this but I don’t have a gopro or anything so I will be trying to get footage off of other travelers that I dive with over the next few weeks!

For all the people out there who are like me, if you have a short temper, take my advice and learn a new language. Especially one which is a bit uncommon or people around you don't know! I can guarantee that it'll make you happier!

Learning a new language can not only be quite fun, but you also get a whole new treasure trove!

You can watch movies or read books in the new language without something getting lost in translation. You could visit a new place and go around without having to lose your mind even if you do get lost...

If nothing else, it will at least guarantee that you can get the person irritating you to shut up!

Seriously! Like if your little cousin is annoying you, just start answering them in Russian. No one can scold you for not answering and you can still get them to leave you alone!

Now, when I get angry at somebody (mainly my brother), I just start spouting words aggressively in Japanese. It doesn't even have to be swears or curses... I could just be listing colours, like, "Midori Akai Kuro"!

It's a good way to keep my temper in check without saying something I'll come to regret later.

I’m most in my element in three situations : when I’m working out, when chilling on an island beach, and when I’m talking to young people about causes I am passionate about. Had a great time talking about gibbons to the Year 8 learners of Nexus International School today! Feels good when you’ve got them engaged and interacting and most importantly thinking about issues.
