Day 38/100 #the100dayproject The first day of spring just passed on the 20th and at the @carlemuseum it’s #theveryhungrycaterpillar day. I decided to make my own hungry caterpillar 🐛 using papers from my #collagepaper stash. I recently got the book #artisttoartist23majorillustratorstalktochildrenaboutart and was fascinated by all the wonderful information it holds including pictures like those shown here of Mr. Carle working on the very hungry caterpillar. I love watching artists at work because there is always so much to learn. I’m still trying to find my own style, so I like to re-create what others have done every now and then to see what I learn. Also, it was just a way to get in touch with one of my favorite times of the year when I was teaching. Watching the butterfly lifecycle each year never got old. I miss watching the wonder on my preschoolers faces as the caterpillars transformed and then releasing them, so much fun. Finished the inks just in time. Just got the call that Toni just landed. I hope I have done Master Raymond art a little justice with this practice piece. July lesson at the Louvre. This time I went with a friend! It is very nice to sketch together, chat and then go to lunch 😁. This is a group of feathers on the back of the soldier's helmet. He's in anguish after being captured. This may or may not be the subject of Napolean's defeat. I really must do more research so I can be a better guide to the Louvre for you. I like how abstract my feathers turned out to be! I was laughing about them not being light and airy with my friend, but then again they were made of bronze! Been a while since I posted. Oops! So even though I haven't finished my copy of Lucretia, I have to move on for right now since the room she hangs in has been closed for cleaning for a few months. I thought I would try another Rembrandt, and this time do my best to take advantage of the natural translucency of oil paints. So I started with a rough raw umber drawing, followed by a wash of green umber to tone the canvas.
