10 YEARS OF THE SHIELD

Colby Lopez, Jonathan Good and Leati Joseph Anoa’i: 3 men who partially saved me when they debuted at Survivor Series 2012.

🚨PERSONAL SHIT AHEAD🚨

12 year old me was stuck in a bad home situation with an abusive stepdad, who had no concept of personal space or privacy. Pro wrestling was my safe haven as a kid (I had some comfort shows but that’s a different story for another time). When SS happened in November 2012, my mom and I were trying to escape but we were still a ways off of succeeding and WWE was my escape.

I connected with all 3 of them on some level and they’ve in the oddest of ways seen me through so much in my life. Moving to a new state with new kids, a new school, losing my grandparents, some breakups, and whole nother slew of things. They also unknowingly helped me find some really amazing online friends that obsess and rave about wrestling just as much as I do.

Seth & Roman reminded me so much of my brothers in so many ways. Dean proved to me as a kid from Cincinnati that I could accomplish anything I wanted to if I believed in myself enough and was willing to put in the work.

I can’t honestly think of any factions of the last 20 years that have connected with so many people on so many different levels. I can’t wait to see what the next 10 years brings Colby, Joe and Jon because they all 3 deserve the world and all the good things that wrestling can give them.

Joining The Family Business: Wrestlers Who Followed Their Families Into The Squared Circle Part 1

A lot of families have a business, including mine. It’s common for members of a family to take over and or follow their elders into a business after they retire. The is also a popular occurrence in pro wrestling. Over the years , there have been many families who’ve made a name for themselves within the business and have a new generation of wrestlers carrying the family name and creating their pwn legacies .

Hook ( Tyler Senerchia ) - 2nd Generation . Hook is the son of ECW and WWE Legend, Tazz. Both are currently signed to AEW , where Hook is a 3x FTW Champion and Tazz is a Color Commentator. The FTW Championship was created by Tazz in 1998 during his time in ECW.

Lexis King ( Brian Pillman Jr) 2nd Generation - Lexis is the son of WWE and WCW Legend, ‘ Flyin ’ Brian Pillman. King was signed to MLW in 2018 before being signed to AEW in 2019 and becoming a member of The Varsity Blondes alongside Griff Garrison and Julia Hart. Since 2023 , King has been signed to WWE and is currently in NXT.

Leati Joseph Anoa’i ( Roman Reigns ) and Matthew Tapunu’u Anoa’i ( Rosey) - 3rd Generation. They are the grandsons of Amituana’i Anoa’i and the sons of Sika and the nephews of Afa. Rosey is a one time WWF Tag Team Champion and Roman is the 4th longest reigning Undisputed WWE Universal Heavyweight Champion. Rosey passed away in 2017.

Leah Van Dale ( Carmella )- 2nd Generation . She is the daughter of Paul Van Dale . Paul Van Dale was mainly used an Enhancement Talent in WWE for their top stars. Van Dale was the opponent for Razor Ramon when he made his WWE debut in 1992. Carmella was signed to WWE in 2013 and is the Inaugural Ms Money In The Bank, 4x 24/7 Champion, 1x Women’s Tag Team Champion ( with Queen Zelina ) , 1x Smackdown Women’s Champion, 2019 Wrestlemania Women’s Battle Royal Winner , and part of the Mixed Match Challenge with R-Truth

Ashley Elizabeth Fliehr ( Charlotte Flair ) - 2nd Generation. She is the daughter of The Nature Boy , Ric Flair. She made two appearances in WCW in 1993 and 2000. Charlotte was signed to WWE in 2012. She is the final WWE Divas Champion, a 2x NXT Women’s Champion, a 6x and Inaugural RAW Women’s Champion, 7x Smackdown Women’s Champion, Participant in the 2014 NXT Women’s Championship Tournament, 1x Women’s Tag Team Champion ( alongside Asuka ) , 2020 Women’s Royal Rumble Winner ,5th Women’s Triple Crown Champion, 4th Women’s Grand Slam Champion

My Final Thoughts:

I’m writing this article series to explain wrestling family dynasties and how we have new stars out of each family . While working on this one , I never knew that Carmella was a second generation wrestler. I briefly discussed her father in my article about Razor Ramon. I’ll probably have part 2 up later.

As much as I hate to admit this I honestly don’t want The Shield to ever reunite in the ring as a team. They’ve all become absolute badasses to ever need to reunite 🤷🏻‍♀️

I’ve got all the love for Jon, Colby & Joe and I’ll always be a Shield fan but they all deserve to move on and not have people constantly ask when they’re gonna get back together.

6. What’s your lucky number?  Probably 14. My kids were all born on the 14th, just different months.

12. What was your last dream about?  Spearing Bill Goldberg in half, taking my title belt home, and...well the rest isn’t safe for work.

24. Baths or showers? Showers. My big ass hasn’t fit in a bathtub in years

30. How many pillows do you sleep with? Two, otherwise I snore like a freight train

78. Have you ever done drugs? Yeah. I had a medical marijuana card while I was getting treatment for my cancer. And I was an idiot and took painkillers that weren’t prescribed to me once. 

84. What color is your hair? Black, though I’m starting to get some grey

90. What makes you angry? The quickest way to piss me off is to make an entire social media account dedicated to threatening my daughter. 

96. How did you get your name? My real name is Leati Joseph Anoa’i, I’m named after my dad. I got bullied a lot growing up cause I was the only brown kid with a weird name in my class, so I just started going by Joe and it stuck.

These guys are the reason I came back to watching WWE five years ago after having stopped for a few years. Roman specifically drew me in with his character and that bad ass aura he had. To say they’re the reason I fell in love with WWE again is such an understatement. Love him or hate him he has brought nothing but pure entertainment and has given us five star matches week after week! My prayers are with him forever, I absolutely believe he will be back better then ever and will kick cancers ass! We love you, Leati Joseph Anoa’i💜💜💜 #ThankYouRoman
