FLYING BARK IS NOT GONE: about the trailer animation

PLEASE DO NOT SPREAD THE IDEA THAT FLYING BARK WAS REPLACED.

THIS IS FALSE.

Flying Bark made the decision to outsource additional animation, this includes things like trailers and promos- not the actual show. this decision was made because Flying Bark is also currently working on the upcoming animated ATLA movie, and they needed to lessen their workload. Flying Bark is still handling the animation of the actual episodes and specials, they just needed some breathing room and got that by giving some of the less important responsibilities- like promos and trailers- to someone else for the time being.

the animation isn't even bad, there's no need to act like this is the end of the world and start acting like everything will be changed forever. though I will give some of ya'll the benefit of the doubt and say you probably didn't know these details, but we shouldn't have jumped to conclusions anyway.

edit: there is a post saying that Wildbarin has a deal for two seasons + specials of LMK, this was a misread, the site this info was taken from was mentioning the already existing content for LMK on Amazon Kids+. the deal wildbrain was, again, for the additional animation. Please do not harass this blog if you see the post however.

edit 2: it has been alleged that Wildbrain has been given a 1-2 year deal for two seasons + a special per leaked "legal documents" from Flying Bark, and I may have been wrong in the above edit. this has yet to be confirmed, if it comes out as true then I will be removing this post, so far I have seen nothing but the misread website however. that being said if it is true, FLYING BARK IS STILL SET TO RETURN ONCE THAT DEAL IS FINISHED. but be warned, my word is not law, and I'm not infallible.

unfortunately Flying Bark does seem to be fully parting ways with LEGO Monkie Kid due to the inability to keep up with deadlines, likely contributing to the decision to sign off the license to Wildbrain as that would make a change from hand drawn animation to puppet 2d/3d animation.

please note that the voice teams and writing teams are remaining the same, only the animation team is being changed.

that being said looking at the trailer the main differences in the animation appears to be in the dept and lighting, things that can be easily fixed and likely are only off because the are unfinished. the animation we see in the trailer is likely not the final product, and I implore fans to remain patient and respectful with our new animation team.

(but again, please do not take my world for law, I am not immune to human error)

WildBrain are still getting used to animating in this style. Do I need to remind you all of S1 (especially the pilot's) animation? Give them a break, let them cook/get used to it. It's just the trailer. The season itself will still be amazing, regardless of animation quality. The story is what matters.

LMK SEASON 5

Now that Lego Monkie Kid Season 5 Trailer is out, here is my thoughts on it.

Some of you LMK fans are the worse I've seen on here.

Due to the amount of negativity the trailer got from the fans. It was bad to the point someone send a DM to the LEGO company and I heard someone try to do a petition to get Flying Bark back on the show.

As an Animator it is very disheartening to see your comments on it. I actually cried seeing the comments. Please give the new studio a chance. Wait until the episodes drop this summer, and then see if you guys will love it.

The new studio knows that LMK is a highly anticipated animation, hence the expectations were HIGH. Can you imagine the pressure being put on to them?

Just please enjoy the show. Despite it being a different Studio, it is STILL them. It is still MK, the Monkie Kid. It is still based on the Journey To The West.

Do not go and harassed, ESPECIALLY the Animators about how bad the trailer was. Please be kind to them. They have worked so hard on this for YOU. Be happy that there's even a GLIMPSE of S5.

Okay so saw the trailer for Season 5 of LMK and the discord that is happening. So I did a little research and here’s some information all LMK fans should be aware of. (EDIT: new information has come forth)

It looks like LEGO has given WildBrain studios the license to LMK for the next 2 seasons plus a Special.

(It has been shown to me, that I have mis interpreted the information in the Kidscreen article and I apologize for that. I was trying to find some string of answers and jumped onto the first thread of evidence I could find.

What does remain true is WildBrains credentials and to please not point your annoyance, frustration, and disappointment onto either of the animation studios, or their staff, if your goal is for better animation your best corse of action is still to push LEGO company about it)

Now first off I want to say that The Vancouver studio they are talking about is pretty good, they used to be DHX and the part of DHX that did My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, along with Carmen Sandiego, so they do know how to animate 2D pretty well but it’s all rigged 2D either done through Flash or Harmony, so doubtful we will get the kind of battle animation we got from Barks studios.

PLEASE don’t stop supporting or watching LMK that’s not going to help, it’s probably already set in stone that WildBrain will have LMK for the at least the next 2 seasons plus special, also don’t attack WildBrain that’s like complaining to a cashier about how a store is run don’t do that. Also don’t go after the show runners(ie: writers); they are the cashier supervisors; When it comes to massive properties like LEGO, they have no control over who the company hires to be cashiers.

If you're going to complain to anyone, complain to LEGO company, (the part that has control over shows, not the one that has control over lego sets). Now don’t say things like “if you keep this studio I’m gonna stop watching Monkie Kid and buying your merch” don’t do this it will only cause LEGO to drop the show, if a show doesn’t have the view numbers or the merch numbers, they’ll drop the show regardless of the praise or complains about said show.

Question Lego about their choices, request Lego for animation the same quality as the previous season, question lego how to get flybark’s animation back.(new info has come in, please read link to twitter statement or the reblog of the twitter statement)

Please reblog this, or screen shot and repost what I am saying; this is the one case where I give permission. I know a lot of fans are spinning (Me included) right now and I don’t want anyone to take out their annoyance, frustration and disappointment on the wrong people.

Friendly reminder that the Season 5 animation is the result of a very sudden studio change!! It was likely rushed and they didn't have the time or resources to properly prepare for it.

Once Flying Bark is available they might pick up working on LMK full time again, or it could be passed on to the new team permanently - but once this new studio has more time to adjust to animating LMK, the quality will inevitably improve. It even took Flying Bark quite a while to get the LMK style we're used to cemented. It's all just part of the process.

These things happen, and it sucks, but at the end of the day we're still getting the season. An animation change isn't worth dropping the show over. The trailer gave us so much cool stuff to look forward to, and there's plenty more that hasn't even been shown yet. The VAs have been hyping this season up for good reason.

The best thing to do is accept the change, find the positives, and enjoy the ride. Don't let the animation change ruin what otherwise looks like a very promising season.

Lego Monkie Kid is a product.

I don’t intend to make any more posts of this style for some time, but I’d like to put this out here for everywhere:

(After this, I’ll go back to uploading my usual content. I’m sorry for deviating from that, but I really wanted to make a post or two about season five.)

Lego Monkie is a paid-for product. You can buy it through Amazon, watch it on the Lego Channel with ads, import the comics from China, etc.

You pay for it. It’s not something put into the world for free. It is a product that people consume with their time or money.

It’s not something made with only time and love.

Lego Monkie Kid is a paid-for product with thousands of dollars worth of tie-in merch.

It is not bad; and will never be bad, to criticize the products you consume. We do not have to blindly consume for the sake of animators, or for the sake of a show.

Do not tell people to ‘just be happy’. Do not tell people that ‘the animators are just trying to feed their families’. Do not tell people to ‘just get over it’. Do not tell people that they’re ‘being ungrateful’.

People are allowed to form opinions of changes, whether negative or positive- especially when it is a product they pay for.

People are going to have negative feelings and thoughts and emotions. You are not a knight or a soldier. You get nothing out of standing guard against even the slightest scrap of unhappiness.

Toxic positivity solves nothing in the long run. You can’t just complain people’s upsetness away. You can’t kiss disappointment like a wound and expect it to heal.

People are upset about a downgrade in quality in the product that they pay to consume.

And that’s okay.

Stop telling them it isn’t.

In all honesty the animation isn’t all that bad it’s just not what we’re used to.

I don’t think we should harass the new animation team and just make the best out of what we have.

Is this a hot take? Maybe? I’d describe it as a “Reheated poorly in the microwave” take at best. But y’all, calm down. The writers are still the same, so are the VA’s, it’s gonna be a good show no matter what.

Also, be nice to the new animators. Unless you actually draw and/or animate, you have such little room to talk. And this isn’t hating towards Epithet Erased, I love Epithet Erased! I’m just pointing out that different or “lower quality” animation doesn’t mean it’s not good. The new animation looks fine, and have you forgotten some of the shots from the trailer?

Chang’e looking up at the broken sky? Beautiful! The first real look at the Hundred Eyes Demon? Immaculate! When Wukong is getting re-banded again? I feel bad for my favorite stupid smart person, but that shot slapped!

Give it a chance, you might be pleasantly surprised.
