Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) went on a bizarre tangent after she was called out for lying about her past comments suggesting the Parkland, Florida, school shooting was staged.
During an interview with CBS News’ Lesley Stahl broadcast Sunday on “60 Minutes,” Greene was asked for her stance on the 2018 massacre, which left 17 students and staff dead. Two years before she was elected to Congress, Greene responded to a comment on Facebook calling the shooting a “false flag” operation.
But when asked about it by Stahl, Greene tried to rewrite history.
“I never said Parkland was a false flag,” Greene said. “No, I’ve never said that. School shootings are horrible. I don’t think it’s anything to joke about.”
As she was speaking, “60 Minutes” showed a screengrab of Greene’s now-deleted 2018 Facebook comment.
“We fact-checked,” Stahl replied. “Before I got to this interview.”
Greene offered a word-salad comeback, derailing the discussion.
“Have you fact-checked all my statements from kindergarten through 12th grade and in college? And as I’ve paid my taxes and never broken a law, and the only, I got a few speeding tickets, do we need to talk about those too?” she said. “Because I think where you’re going down is the same attacks that people have attacked me with over and over.”
Stahl didn’t challenge Greene further.
Tumblr media
Greene, a Trump-supporting firebrand who was the first open supporter of the QAnon conspiracy theory to be elected to Congress, has on multiple occasions endorsed conspiratorial nonsense about school shootings and was filmed in 2019 harassing a Parkland victim who advocates for gun control.
In another 2018 Facebook comment section unearthed by the Media Matters for America watchdog, Greene responded “this is all true” to a user who said that “none of the School shootings were real or done by the ones who were supposedly arrested for them.”
Greene, during her “60 Minutes” interview, tried to shift blame for her past social media activity, suggesting that “other people also ran my social media” when she liked a 2019 comment suggesting Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) should get a bullet to the head. (Greene was not a member of Congress in 2019.)
Even if that were the case, Greene has publicly alluded to her belief that school shootings are staged. Last year, Greene suggested in a video that the July 4 shooting in Highland Park, Illinois, was orchestrated “to persuade Republicans to go along with more gun control.”
CBS News faced significant backlash over the weekend for interviewing Greene and giving a platform to her dangerous rhetoric. Following the release of the sit-down, Stahl was criticized for allowing Greene to hijack the conversation, failing to adequately call out the lawmaker’s false claims, and normalizing the extremist’s unhinged behavior.
“I have known Lesley Stahl for more than 40 years, worked alongside her for many election weeks. She has been a great journalist, but this is a disgraceful, cringeworthy performance. Shameful to the max,” tweeted Norman Ornstein, an emeritus scholar at the American Enterprise Institute.
“This is even worse than I thought it would be,” wrote The Atlantic staff writer Tom Nichols. “Imagine getting outflanked by MTG, whose answer was ‘what, are you going to go back to everything I’ve said and done since kindergarten’ and Stahl just took it.”

Rookie-Critic's Top 25 Films of 2022: #4: Marcel the Shell with Shoes On (dir. Dean Fleischer-Camp)
Tumblr media
Our next entry was nominated in the Animated Feature Film category at the Oscars, although I'm not sure if I would consider this truly an animated film. Regardless, this one's possibly the sweetest film from last year.
What a charmer, Marcel is. This little shell with shoes on gets the award for the most adorable character of 2022, and it helps that the whole film is one gigantic uplift of a movie. The creativity in the set pieces, in the way Marcel and his fellow shells maneuver the big world around them, and the heart the little guy puts into every action he takes is just so wonderful. Not to mention how hilarious it all is. The jokes in the film never miss, and, like all the best family entertainment, there are jokes in there aimed at the adults in the room that are innocent enough to go right over the heads of the younger ones in the audience. Jenny Slate delivers a career-best performance as the titular Marcel, bringing all of the child-like wonder and hope to the role that all of us could use more of. However, as amazing as Slate is, the real show-stopper performance in this one goes to Isabella Rossellini as Marcel's grandmother, Nana Connie, who acts as Marcel's sole companion for most of the film. There is a scene involving Nana Connie and a ladybug in this movie that could easily take the top spot for "Most Moving Film Moment of 2022." It's a unbelievably beautiful moment that moved me to tears in a film that had, up until that point, been mostly just good, wholesome, sweet fun, and it has forever cemented a place in my heart because of it. The film is done in a mockumentary style, with director Dean Fleischer-Camp inserting himself into the film, like the Rob Reiner to Marcel's Spinal Tap, and it makes everything feel very intimate. Marcel isn't just a little claymation figure, he is a fully realized personality. We see Marcel candidly, like we'd see anybody else, and it makes his tiny world feel very real, and very big. We see the world the way Marcel does: vast, wonderful, and full of the possibility that something so seemingly endless brings. A film so good-natured, with characters so lovable, that daring to dislike anything about it feels tantamount to turning away the love of a puppy. Please watch Marcel the Shell with Shoes On. Allow this little shell boy to sweep you away on an adventure that will make you laugh, make you cry, and make you fall in love with all the tiny, wonderful things the world has to offer (Marcel included).
Currently streaming on Showtime.

I understand the idea behind a boycott of the 60 minutes interview with MTG, but I don’t know anyone younger than 60 that still watches. These people can’t find their phone settings; they won’t see your social media hashtag.
That said, an hour of interview material could not have yielded any critical journalistic pushback if she stayed throughout. It just adds palatability to her cult behavior.

During an appearance on CBS’s television magazine 60 Minutes, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) called Democrats – and even President Joe Biden – supporters of pedophilia.
youtube
“Greene complains that the news media harp on things she did in the past,” Stahl says in a voiceover. “Like, as in this video, chasing after a survivor of the Parkland, Florida school shooting… and things she says that are over the top, like…”
“‘The Democrats are a party of pedophiles,’” Stahl says, quoting Greene from an April 2022 interview.
“I would definitely say so,” Greene told Stahl, standing by her words. “They support grooming children-”
“They are not pedophiles!” Stahl laughed, apparently thinking Greene wasn’t serious. “Why would you say that?”
“Democrats, Democrats support- Even Joe Biden the President himself supports children being sexualized and having transgender surgeries,” Greene stated. “Sexualizing children is what pedophiles do to children.”
“Wow,” Stahl said, shocked. She rolled her eyes and sighed before saying, “OK….”
“But, my question really is: Can’t you fight for what you believe in without all that name-calling and without the personal attacks?” Stahl asked.
“Well, I would ask the same question to the other side, because all they’ve done is call me names and insult me nonstop since I’ve been here, Lesley,” Greene responded. “They call me racist. They call me antisemitic, which is not true. I’m not calling anyone names. I’m calling out the truth, basically.”
“Pedophile?” Stahl asked incredulously.
“Pedophile — call it what it is,” Greene said, as if it’s the most obvious thing in the world that Joe Biden wants to have sex with children.
Greene, like many – but not all – people on the right, uses the expression “sexualizing children” to describe an extremely eclectic set of actions. For these conservatives, “sexualizing children” can include reading a book to kids about a baby penguin with two dads, letting a boy wear nail polish, as well as child sex abuse and rape. They label the innocuous activities as “sexualizing children” and then talk about how the actually destructive activities are bad for kids. Anyone who doesn’t follow their logic, to them, is just another supporter of pedophilia.
Moreover, Greene has shown support for the QAnon conspiracy theory in the past. QAnon is a once-fringe rightwing conspiracy theory that says that major Democrats and celebrities – like former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, Tom Hanks, and Ellen DeGeneres – are part of an international child sex abuse cabal. They kill and eat the babies as they worship Satan, according to the conspiracy theory.
Greene is incorrect in stating that Biden “supports” transgender surgeries per se. The mainstream Democratic position on the issue is that medical care is a decision made by families with health care professionals. Major medical organizations like the American Medical Association, the American Psychiatric Association, and the American Academy of Pediatrics support affirming the gender of transgender youth.
That rarely involves surgery for minors. Instead, it usually involves allowing them to go by the name and pronouns they want to use, letting them dress as the gender they identify as, allowing them to use reversible puberty blockers, and, for older teens, providing hormone replacement therapy. None of these are performed because of the sexual desires of the doctors and other adults in the lives of trans kids.

I know this may come as a news flash for some but crypt keeper grandma lesley stahl gave that cretin MTG national air time knowing full well it was the wrong thing to do.  Why would she care?  She benefits from the current system and she’s doesn’t give a damn about anyone else.  Obviously.
And stop calling that ridiculous skeleton a journalist.  She’s a journalist like I’m a world champion F1 driver.

Marcel the Shell with Shoes On (2022, dir. Dean Fleischer-Camp) - review by Rookie-Critic
Tumblr media
Marcel the Shell with Shoes On blew me away. This unassuming little movie, about a little shell boy named Marcel (a career-best performance from Jenny Slate) and his grandmother Nana Connie (brilliantly voiced by Isabella Rossellini) doing their absolute best to survive in an Air B&B after losing their shell community to the breakup of the couple that lived there before, delivers on being one of the cutest, funniest, most wholesome, and oddly beautiful movies of the year so far. This is a film that finds joy in all of the little pleasures of life, and one that's not afraid to be kid friendly while still tackling themes like loss, fear of loss, and death head-on; with sequences that are more artfully crafted and emotionally resonant than most of the end-of-year, "Oscar bait-y" dramas. The mockumentary style helps you feel the relative bigness of Marcel's realistically tiny world, and helps the film accomplish its ultimate triumph in making Marcel incredibly relatable. You empathize with this little stop-motion shell in his every move, every decision, every next step that he takes on his journey. The absolute wonder at the possibilities of the world around him, and unabashed innocence and fearlessness that allows Marcel to overcome his seemingly mundane trappings and feel as big and real as director Dean Fleischer-Camp who, in very Spinal Tap fashion, inserts himself as a character in the movie.
I couldn't help but be swept away on this lovely little adventure with 3 characters that work better than they have any right to in a film that was way more emotionally potent than it needed to be. The scene between Nana Connie and that ladybug will live with me forever, and currently sits at the top of my list of the most beautiful movie moments of the year. Please watch Marcel the Shell. If you have kids, sit them down with you. You will laugh, you will cry, and you will be amazed by the things that Marcel has to show you.
Score: 10/10
Currently available to rent or purchase on digital (iTunes, Amazon, Vudu, etc.) and on DVD, Blu-ray, and 4K through A24.

I really don’t owe my Trump-supporting friends an apology. I’ve been critical of Trump these last several years, and am still exhausted from the experience.
