I was introduced to Elise’s writing when they returned to the fandom in late 2021 after a little haitus. Being fairly new to Drarry at the time, I had not yet heard of Elise, though plenty of other readers were chomping at the bit to get their hands on Elise’s new work. I kept hearing good things, so I figured I’d check it out—and immediately fell in love after reading Burn the Witch. The fic was poignant, exciting, and, above all, full of dreamy, delicious romance. So, why should you read Elise’s fic? Here are a few reasons:

The ungodly levels of UST

Elise’s Harry and Draco are fully in lust from the first, even if they still despise each other. In Unfold Me, Harry hates his roommate Malfoy so much that he can’t stop thinking about him or the smell of his laundry detergent. And then, when Malfoy accidentally includes his own t-shirt in Harry’s clean laundry pile, Harry has had enough. He sleeps with Malfoy’s t-shirt under his pillow (and does other, unspeakable things while sniffing it) as retribution. In Cabin Fever, Harry doesn’t like Malfoy or anything, but he can’t help but notice when a sudden gust of wind “whipped through Malfoy’s burgundy, standard-issue Auror cloak and exposed his shapely posterior for Harry to admire.” Okay, and fine, he’s also noticed the way Malfoy laughs, how he strides “through the Auror department corridors like a young prince perusing his future kingdom” (Harry’s words, not mine), and sometimes runs a hand through his “short, stylish, impossibly blond hair.” But don’t worry! Malfoy’s also lusting over Harry, a fact that he accidentally lets slip when he calls Harry ‘pretty’ out of nowhere (which obviously makes Harry lose his damn mind).

Sometimes Harry and Draco’s lust is very inconvenient, like in Draco Malfoy’s Stupendous Seduction Seminar, when Draco recalls a time Potter was pressed against him in the lifts and afterward, Draco had to “walk around with a manila folder held in front of his crotch for a good fifteen minutes.” Poor Draco. Sometimes, Harry is so hot that Draco’s body can’t handle it, like in Burn the Witch, when Draco sees Harry for the first time in years and his heart skips a beat. Literally, “[s]kipped a fucking beat, like in a cheap romance novel.”

Thankfully, Harry’s usually in the same boat. He’s cursed with having a sort of sixth sense when it comes to Malfoy. He can “walk into a room and know Malfoy is there before he even sets eyes on him.” (Draco Malfoy’s Stupendous Seduction Seminar). The back of his neck prickles whenever Malfoy’s around, okay? It’s not his fault. Malfoy only encourages it, doing things like wearing body-con leggings during a play (Upstaged) so that Harry is basically forced to go and see him perform a bagillion times in a row.

Further complicating matters, Elise’s Harry has typically been thinking about Malfoy for a very long time, in very R-rated ways, like in Laws of Gravity, wherein he muses over the fact that Malfoy kneeling in front of him in a cloakroom is “every fantasy Harry has ever blocked coming to life with an incandescent lack of warning.” Oh, generic gay fantasies, you ask? Hardly. We’re talking Malfoy-specific fantasies that involve “the version Harry’s always kept in the back of his mind, all these years—a hungry, debauched version…” Mm hm. This lust has been brewing for ages.

Occasionally, Elise likes to throw in they-almost-go-there-but-stop-themselves moments that make the UST levels fly off the charts altogether. I literally wrote in my notes on Had To Be You, “oh my god! No!! No! Just have sex! Oh my godddd!!!” (look what you’ve reduced me to, Elise). But Harry and Draco did not have sex at that time. Instead, they proceeded to eat dinner together, sporting what I can only imagine were horrendously painful blue balls. Don’t worry, though—it’s worth the wait when it happens.

Because, listen, if you’re sitting there thinking that all this UST buildup must lead to some scorching hot smut, then you are one hundred percent right. I’m not going to spoil these sexy, delicious, smutty scenes for you here by telling you too much about them, but as a preview, here’s Harry narrating in Had to Be You:

Harry’s heart keeps wanting to escape his ribcage, or at least burst it open, it’s beating so loud. He’s never felt anything like this — this anticipation, like the second before a kiss, only drawn up for minutes, for hours, for bloody months, if Harry’s perfectly honest with himself. There hasn’t been anyone else than Draco for months, maybe years...[T]he back of Draco’s hand brushes his, soft and warm and secret, and Harry nearly gasps, because just that tiny touch of Draco’s is the most erotic thing he’s experienced.

A brush of Draco’s hand does that, ladies and gentlemen. So, yeah, the smut is good.

All that sweet, sweet pining

Listen, I’m not going to say that Elise enjoys torturing readers—I can’t see into their mind! But if I had to guess, I’d say maybe they enjoy it a little? Because Harry and Draco pine so hard in Elise’s fic. Oh, sure, they’ll eventually come to experience a life-changing, soul-filling love for the ages, but first they are going to suffer. If you are anything like me, though, you’ll eat it up because it’s beautiful in its own right, and because it makes the payoff so, so sweet. But first, the pain.

Sometimes jealousy is involved, like in Had to Be You. For years, Draco and Harry watch each other date around and absolutely hate it. This results in various degrees of tantrum-throwing. When Harry makes out with Draco’s friend at a music festival, Harry notes that Draco is in a black mood the next day, and that it has “nothing to do with the weather.” Draco stops talking to Harry for a month after that. A month! When Draco sets off on an Italian holiday with a boyfriend, Harry stomps around until he gets a text from Draco that says Draco misses him (yes, Draco’s texting Harry that he misses him while on a holiday with his boyfriend, and no, neither one of them realizes what this means at this point).

Other times, there is no one else in the picture, and yet our dear boys still pine. They yearn for the thing they think they cannot have (even though they definitely, definitely can have it). In Laws of Gravity, Harry is completely obsessed with Malfoy from the start, although he’s sure it won’t work out because Malfoy’s a pickpocket, and also because he’s Malfoy. Harry thinks maybe the feelings will fade? Fat chance, when he readily admits that his life is “bisected into before and after Malfoy’s mind-boggling blowjob.” Harry. Buddy. You’ve divided your entire life (which included a starring role in a war, mind) into pre-blowjob and post-blowjob. I’m pretty sure your feelings are here to stay.

And the reality is, sex is never enough for these two. Nothing short of lifelong love and devotion is ever enough. After Malfoy keeps putting out for Harry in Laws of Gravity, Harry tells him he’s sending mixed signals. Malfoy points out that he’s given Harry not one, but two blowjobs at this point, and he very clearly wants him. Harry argues that it’s “not the same as liking someone.” Because see, Harry and Draco want everything from each other in Elise’s fic. Not just blowjobs, not just friendship, not just casual dating. They want everything.

They’ll make you believe in true love

Which brings me to my final point. Elise’s stories are about the most unabashedly romantic things I’ve ever read. In their first fic on AO3, Had To Be You, Elise notes that it’s inspired by When Harry Met Sally, a film they admit to having watched ‘a hundred’ times. This is not surprising to me. Because if you love When Harry Met Sally, you are someone who loves love, who has a tender center and a soft heart. And after going through Elise’s fics one by one, let me tell you: Elise loves love. Elise loves romance. And this comes through in all their stories, which are, at their core, tender and beautiful depictions of true love.

In Elise’s fic-universe, Harry and Draco were always meant to be, and literally everyone around them knows it. In Had To Be You, Hermione has a heart to heart with Harry in which she makes him acknowledge his feelings for Draco. “I’ve seen how you’ve been practically drooling over Draco for months now,” she says. “And you’ve been obsessed with him…for years. It was the weird thing you had for him in Sixth Year, and now it’s this very intense friendship.” Harry argues with her about the intense friendship, but eventually has to concede the point. In The Generation Who Lived, Neville and Luna scheme to get Harry and Draco alone in their house so that they’ll reconcile (again, because everyone knows they’re meant to be). My favorite fic in this vein is Re: Harry’s Crush, wherein the entire Ministry is emailing back and forth about how obsessed Harry and Draco are with each other. It’s common knowledge. Everyone else can see it, it just sometimes takes Harry and Draco a while to catch on.

But Harry and Draco do know, deep down, even when they don’t admit it at first. It comes out in flashes, like when they have sex for the first time in Had To Be You and Harry notes that “the connection was something [he’d] never felt, not with any of the many lovers he’d had in the past, and it left him feeling raw, exposed and shy, despite the deep pleasure coursing through his veins.” Or in Paper Rings, when Draco reminisces about his Eighth-Year fling with Harry and how he knew, even at the time, that it had been both “inevitable” and that he would never recover from it, emotionally. Or in Laws Of Gravity, when Harry realizes he doesn’t want Malfoy to go, even though he doesn’t know what that means. (It means you love him, Harry!).

One of the things I adore about Elise’s fic is that there is always this fantastic, pivotal moment when things click. It’s the moment when our guarded main characters let their walls fall, let themselves see what everyone else has known for so long. And then this thing—this love—that has felt so impossible suddenly seems easy. There’s a surety that comes flooding in, a recognition that yes, this is the person for me, and yes, they want me too. It’s even said tongue-in-cheek (although we know it’s hilariously real) in Kill, Fuck, Marry when the boys wake up after their first night together. They’d been playing the titular ‘marry, fuck, kill’ the night before, and Draco says, well, you’ve already tried to kill me and you’ve already fucked me, so “[t]he only thing left to do is marry me, I suppose.” Does this scare Harry off? Not at all. “You’ve already got more birthday presents than you deserved Malfoy,” Harry says. “This one will have to wait until next year. If you’re good.” One date and shag, and they’re already joking about getting married. God help us.

But lest you think this is some sort of shallow insta-love, it’s not. Elise, particularly in their long fic, depicts a love of equals, of two men who root for one another and stand up for one another, who have each other’s backs. It’s lovely, the way they see one another so clearly, the way they advocate for one another. Whether it’s Harry in Burn the Witch fighting against a Ministry that’s unfairly targeted Draco, or Draco in Paper Rings advocating for Harry in Harry’s divorce, these are two people who admire and respect each other. It's evident in Harry’s thoughts about how brave Draco is regarding his sexuality in Draco Malfoy’s Stupendous Seduction Seminar. Or, beautifully, in Draco’s thoughts in Paper Rings, when he contemplates that “Harry had spent so many years not being appreciated for who he was…not being loved.” He wonders how “blind Ginevra Weasley must have been not to see how good [Harry was]…how utterly perfect in every one of his complicated ways.” They know that the other is not actually perfect (after all, they, more than anyone, are familiar with the other’s faults), but they love them just the same. In Fire Meet Gasoline, Draco spells out his shortcomings to Harry—all of them—and Harry just says, “Do you think that frightens me? ‘Cause it doesn’t. I told you already. I want everything you are.”

Incidentally, after that gorgeous bit of dialogue from Fire Meet Gasoline, Harry asks Draco to stay with him. Draco thinks about how he doesn’t do love, but Potter was the exception (sort of like how Harry muses that he’s “Draco-sexual” in Paper Rings). Then he says, “I couldn’t leave you if I tried…I’m afraid you’re stuck with me now, Potter.” Cue the violins. Le sigh.

Ahhh, Drarry in its best and most natural state. Soulmates, each other’s one and only, together forever and ever, amen.

And one of my favorite things about Elise: they will get you there every time, no matter how improbable it seems at the start.

Harry stumbled back as Malfoy let him go. Malfoy turned a genial smile to the posh young woman striding their way. “Hello, Astoria.”

But the woman paid no attention to Malfoy. She stared at Harry. Her pretty mouth hung open, possibly the only concession to utter surprise that her upbringing allowed.

Harry, though, had no such upbringing to fall back on. Draco Malfoy had just kissed him. They’d been fighting, that much he remembered. They’d been fighting. Harry was so fucking irritated by Malfoy, but it hadn’t been a horrible feeling. The heat that had raged through Harry’s veins was a welcome change after two weeks of quiet desperation. You’re so talented. Every time your fan binding pictures cross my dash I stare at them for *hours*. The amount of care and detail you put into your books blows my mind. I know you talk about the process for each individual book on your fic binding posts but I wanted to ask: how do you plan your fic binds? Do you visualize what the fic would look like if it were a book while you read it? Do the colors and illustrations you choose come to you as you read the fic, or after? How does your approach to fic binding differ from your approach to writing? Etc. I’m curious about your creative process, though the technical part is also super interesting!

Ps: I love all the fics you chose to bind but I was so excited when you picked GallaPlacidia’s Ship of Theseus - probably my favorite of theirs. You have great taste 😁💚

Eek Elise THANK YOU! I’m so flattered & honored. Also always happy to talk fanbinding, especially binding design (my one true love)!

I would say planning takes the vast majority of my binding time—it’s something I love and I agonize over and I struggle with—while the actual binding often goes quite quickly! I often start with one element that I’m excited about & feel fits the the specific fic: a color or spine stitching pattern or a chapter title concept or title page (like the hand-dyed cover + birds for You Open Always or the blooming morning glories for Meet Me at Midnight) and then, because I have no chill or a single subtle bone in my body, I just roll with that element through the whole book until it’s totally exhausted (wish I could spoil some of my upcoming binds here, but you will SEE VERY SHORTLY what I mean). Every single time I make a book, around the time where I’m printing out the typeset, I feel that I’ve made a grievous error in including one more item than I should have, like it’s way too much. An example is the blackletter ornate font I ended up using for the title of You Open Always—you can see in my draft Illustrator document where I was trying out tons of concepts using stock images that most of my title page concepts were with a much simpler, more modern font that I used for the chapter numbers. However, in the end, I’ve always been happy that I’ve gone completely 100% on my vision, even if it’s a lot. In that way, I feel like it’s like writing—I may be incorporating all the elements I want to see imperfectly and have doubts about them, but I’m still putting everything I want in there & I’m proud and happy for that, even if I still have more things to learn.

One last design element I want to highlight: BODY FONT! This is something I am still learning so much about and the Renegade Discord has been incredibly helpful (a recent message I sent: what font would you find in a pulpy 60s mystery paperback?). A gorgeous title page or chapter header or cover is great for setting the mood when you open a book, but the body font is 90%+ of what you see when reading, so I spend a TON of time trying different fonts to fit the vibe of the fic. I have no thoughts or advice or guidelines though—it’s like porn & you just know it when you see it.

I also get a ton of inspiration from fellow fanbinders, both on the Renegade Discord server & here on tumblr. A lot of time, I see a technique or cover or typeset and think that that would look incredible for XYZ fic. An extremely abbreviated list of people who inspire me daily: @a-gay-old-time (Emma, you're a BLESSING), @queercore-curriculum, @bindsbymunchkin, @pleasantboatpress (one of the most welcoming members of the Renegade server, in addition to being an incredibly inspiring binder), @chubsonthemoon, @no-name-publishing, @zhalfirin-binds, @dontcallmebree, @amywaterwings & @runawaymarbles. Sorry for all the tags, but want this as a resource for others! I would absolutely love to know how all of you come up with your artistic vision for the binds that you do (and please tag me if you post!).

21. Have you ever deleted an entire scene after spending hours laboring over it? If so, why?

oh god, yes. it's honestly one of the most painful things to me lol and can set me back forever because i get so discouraged, like i have to walk away from the project for a bit. but! sometimes it's necessary. when i was writing along each garden wall, i found myself going on a lot of long tangents and side plots that just could not feasibly fit in what i was building (which still wound up being 60k+ words lol) so i deleted a bunch and redirected it. it saved the fic, imo.

i also sometimes will delete scenes that i feel just don't move the plot along or are too extraneous to the fic. Close Behind has some outtakes like that (and a whole ass epilogue i didn't think fit...someday i will polish it up and post it lol). that's less deleting and more just like, keeping to myself, if that makes sense? it's definitely less discouraging to me.

This is the final Survey from @gameofdrarry Wizard Hearts Game. This has basically turned into a fic rec list all on its own, so buckle up here goes:

What was the first fanwork you read/listened to for the game/fest? Why did you choose it?

So the first story I picked was Reform by TheSquibby Princess which was a 186k polyamory beast of a fic, which I absolutely adored. I have a thing for triads and a soft spot for Ron Weasley and so there it was. I was also ambitious as all heck at the beginning, hence the word count. But the fic was a gem, and I adored it and I loved how each relationship built separately all while the triad grew together!

What was the last fanwork you read/listened to for the game/fest? Why did you choose it?

The last work I read was for the established relationship card, which somehow ended up being the last card standing. I looked for something short (because I literally had an hour or so), but that caught my attention. I’ve read works by TheMightyFlynn @mightyflynn before and loved them, so as soon as I saw their name and the summary I dove in. Two Days That Changed His Life was an awesome read and great use of the trope!

What's a fanwork you think is a hidden gem and deserves more hype?

So I’m a sucker for MPREG and A Star Danced by @ladderofyears was an absolute gem, as is it’s author. ladderofyears is an excellent writer and one of the sweetest people in fandom and I adores this story.

What was your strategy for choosing fanworks throughout the game? Was there a tag/trope you found you simply couldn’t resist?

My plan of attack was to try and do all 50k+ and do them all by suit. I got about halfway through that and then life happened, so I just tried to get them all done… not a trope I couldn’t resist, but I read a ton of Wireless Fest fics and they were absolutely spectacular this year. Paper Rings by lettersByelise (epilogue compliant) and In Free Fall by @kbrick are absolute wonderful gems that I didn’t mention anywhere else in this but that you should definitely read.

Was there a trope that you’ve read a lot of previously that you found uniquely presented in a fic?

So I love fics that show Harry testifying for Draco, like it’s one of those pivotal moments in my mind that is such a moment in this pairing, but most of those moments follow a tried and true formula. I Won’t Let You Fall Apart by xanthippe74 takes the Harry testifying for Draco is a completely original direction and it was fantastic. The fic itself was so well-written but that twist on something I already loved and that plot line was absolutely perfect.

What's a line from a fic/podfic that you can't stop thinking about?

If you have not read A Pocket Full of Stones by waterwings, you are missing out. That story lives in my head rent free because it’s beautiful and poignant and the emotions it evokes are visceral.

There is nothing clever about Potter’s magic. Nothing gentle. He walks headfirst into the rest of the wizards, stupid and stubborn. The air is electric, the shadows move around him, and Draco can taste his magic in the wind. A deep, earthy thing, that feels old and damp and clean. The spells are wandless and wordless and Draco, for the first time that night, finds himself standing still.

Potter isn’t skilled or clever or fast; he is a force of nature.

I should leave him, Draco thinks, but it’s fleeting.

He dashes back into the fray, because when has he ever been able to walk away from Harry Potter?

What's a moment in a fic/podfic that genuinely got you to tear up?

I read Its No Great Mystery by agentmoppet for the time travel card and that story just hit me in every emotion I had. It’s a time loop, so not technically travel, but Harry is lost after the war and some of the things that he confronts during his loop brought me to tears. One was his relationship with Hagrid. I think Hargid always should have gotten more recognition in cannon for how much he cares for Harry. But this fic is gorgeous and has so many things done so right, and it just feels so real and so relatable. This line gives nothing away but is just so poignant to me.

Possessed by the spirit of some unknown demon—possibly Sirius, possibly his own father, or possibly just the man Harry might have been if he’d been raised by the two of them—he winked at Draco from across the empty dance floor.

Was there a trope you’ve never read or heard of before? What did you think of it?

I’ve heard of all of the tropes, but honestly there have not been many too many stories featuring Harry or Draco as trans until recently, so that’s something I just had not had the opportunity to read yet. What Husbands are For by softlystarstruck is just a spectacular example of trans characters and a testament to the fact that the relationship between Harry and Draco just is, no matter how they identify, no matter that they are a vampire and a werewolf and no matter that their marriage was only supposed to be political. I loved this fic and loved the inclusivity of this story.

Which trope did you read that pleasantly surprised you?

I’m not one to seek out Second Person POV very often, but Catch Me Before You Fall by lq_traintracks is an amazing use of the trope and just a fantastic story all around. Draco is newly turned and ends up on Harry’s doorstep, and ends up staying. Harry’s POV is so great in this one and their Draco is fantastic as well.

Was there a fanwork that made you laugh out loud? Why?

You send Me (Honest You Do) by firethesound features Auror Partners Harry and Draco where Harry ends up with himself de-aged. This fic is absolutely a gem, and in a world where Draco and Ron are actually friends, you know there are some hilarious moments.

“He is my friend, yes. That doesn’t change the fact that it’s really nice having a partner who’s aware that rules exist,” Ron said.

“Potter is aware that rules exist,” Draco muttered. “I just can’t get him to care.”

“Exactly,” Weasley said, clapping him companionably on the shoulder. “My point exactly. And it’s someone else’s turn to deal with him.” Shaking his head, he muttered to himself as he finished pouring the milk, “Let’s follow the spiders, Ron. Let’s take a flying car to Hogwarts, Ron. Let’s climb aboard this dragon, Ron, and fly away with it, that won’t arse off the Goblins and get us banned from Gringotts for life.”

Draco narrowed his eyes. “He said the flying car was your brilliant idea.”

“Might’ve been,” Weasley said easily, putting the milk away. “And even if it wasn’t, I’m willing to take that one. At least the car didn’t breathe fire, unlike the dragon, so I think I’m still ahead. Has he ever told you about the time he jumped off the top of Tower Bridge in pursuit of a suspect?”

I“What the fuck,” Draco said, blinking. “When did he—no, no. I don’t want to know about it. I’m happier not knowing the details.”

“You probably are. He about gave me a heart attack,” Weasley said, shaking his head. “I’ve been partnered with Ji-eun for almost three months and she hasn’t jumped off a single bridge in that whole time. I deserve this. That’s all I’m saying.”

Was there a fanwork that made you especially emotional? Why?

The Ordeal of Being Known by Louisfake was just one that I read (and it’s sequel) that had me in my emotions for almost the entire story. Harry is struck by a curse that renders him mute, and Draco, a healer legilimens, is the only one that can help him. This story brings the boys through Harry’s memories and Draco sees every single one. It’s invasive, it’s intimate and it’s just a beautiful telling of how they bridge the distance between them to understanding and then more. It’s a fantastic story.

What is your favourite tag/trope? Why?

Fake dating/ pretend relationship hands down. I LOVE a good fake dating trope more than almost anything else in fandom. I read When Times are Dire by Aibidil for that trope and I was floored by that story. It’s much more serious than most written for this trope, and it has a lot of political elements and a middle-aged Harry and Draco, but it’s absolutely fantastic and has such a strong ensemble cast as well as such a strong relationship that Draco and Harry build. It was truly a great take on the trope and so well done.

Which tags/tropes did you skip? Would you be willing to share why? If you didn’t skip a tag/trope, was there one that gave you pause?

The only one I skipped was Cannon Divergent and Honestly it was almost by accident. I read Meet me at Midnight by Thestarryknight, but didn’t have a trope left it fit with, so Cannon Divergent got skipped just so I could give all the love to this amazing fic.

Did you read multiple fics by the same author? What tags/tropes did they have? Wax poetic about the author a bit, eh!

I cannot pick one. I’m going to have to pick two. I had never read anything by Louisfake before this game, and I am in love with their writing. i read The Ordeal of Being Known (veratiserum) and The Rewards of Being Loved (Patronus) and Weapon of Choice (Period Piece) I’ve gushed over the other two, so if you have not read Weapom of Choice, you need to. It’s a medieval piece and features Knight Draco and Evil King Albus. Everything is changed, and yet Draco and Harry remain. It’s wonderful and I was so happy I found it.

Second author is The_Sinking_Ship who is absolutely a joy to read. Everything is just one better than the other! I read Chasing Dragons (song fic) and Finely Drawn Lines (friends with Benefits) and I loved them both. Finely Drawn Lines is just so, so good. The boys are professors and Draco is an artist, and Harry tends to end up his subject. The POV on This is amazing and Draco’s drawings speak all of the words. It just was one of my favorites I’ve read in a bit. I have to include an excerpt.

Before he realised it, Draco had gone ahead and catalogued Harry Potter’s every expression. And this was precisely the reason Draco could never let Potter see inside his sketchbook. What he was doing would most certainly be considered creepy, although he never meant for it to be. It wasn’t as if he was following Potter around or lurking in dark corners, carving his portrait into every surface. It was simply that Potter was a very good subject.

Oh, and Draco was a bit in love with him. There was that.

Who's an author you think deserves more hype? Why?

I have never read anything by AvenueofESC before and I absolutely fell in love with Everything You Want (Is Right in Front of You). It features meddlesome Teddy and was an adorable fic and just struck the perfect balance. I loved the way Harry and Draco got to know each other and the developing relationship between them, and Teddy manipulating them both. Wonderful writing and a new author that I’m glad I found.

Did a fic send you off on a tangent reading or researching anything? Which one was it? What was your off-the-path adventure?

I have to be careful any time I read anything by Shiftylinguini, because I set out to read one thing, and suddenly I’ve read 5 fics (and not for the first time either) and lost like a half a day because I can’t just read one fic. The one fic I read makes me then re-read my favorites. I read Celestial Bodies (accidental bonding and space magic) and Coming up For Air (Veela, forced proximity) the last day of the game and now I’ve reread all my faves in the last couple days, including Two Weeks (VeelaHarry) and Embers ( werewolves) because I just can’t get enough.

Did you rec any fics to your friends during the game/fest? Which ones? Why?

So I couldn’t use this particular fic because I have gushed all over it before. But Drarrelie and JanieOhio are my favorite RomCom duo and This Will Be (An Everlasting Love) from LCD fest is one of my absolute favorites. I read Recipe for Life (misunderstanding) for this years fest and it was so good. Draco is a Chef and squires both a child and Harry Potter as his Sous Chef. It’s super cute, and so well written and I absolutely loved it. But I recommend This Will Be to anyone that will listen.

I love this fest, it’s probably my favorite thing in the fandom. I enjoyed it again and had an absolute blast doing it! I love finding authors I’ve never heard of or reading others stories from old favorites. I also love the teams and getting to know more people in the fandom

For the Never Have I Ever asks :) *secret identities*

oooh WELL I have never posted this, but I am sitting on a Steddie WIP that might fit the bill if I really stretch it LOL (does Cat count as secret identity??). The premise is thus:

Eddie is a magical somethingorother and town pariah who has managed to bork a spell up and is now a cat that does not remember it is usually human.

Steve is a regular human person who is being harassed by a dickhead cat that hates him but won't leave him alone.

Dustin has regular cameos in which he does important things like throw leaves in Steve's face, inform us that cat bites can make you go blind, be sad about his missing human friend (see: first dot point).

Eddie definitely has fleas.

Sometimes I think, "why don't i finish more stories? this is a great story idea!" and then other times i see them written out like this and think, "why are you such a massive wanker?". The sweet spot is in the middle of those two states lol.

Malfoy is standing by a window, his back turned to Harry. The window is cracked open an inch, and Harry notes the smell of cigarette, the red burning tip of it dangling from Malfoy’s fingers. It turns incandescent when Malfoy brings it to his lips and inhales. 

The red glow illuminates the chiseled plane of a cheekbone, and Harry steps forward. 

“Malfoy,” he says.

Malfoy’s back tenses. Then slowly, he turns to look at Harry over his shoulder. His face is half in shadows, but the sight of his sharp face highlighted in the glow of the streetlamps outside hits Harry like a fist to the heart. 

Malfoy must see a frown on Harry’s face, because he rolls his eyes with a sigh. “Don’t look at me like that, Potter. Cigarettes after sex are my only sin nowadays.”

“You forgot kleptomania?”

“That’s not what it is.” Malfoy’s eyes are fixed on him, equally predator and prey. “Why are you so cross? I didn’t steal anything from you.”

“You haven’t given me my Snitch back.”

“Right,” Malfoy says, and Harry swears he can see a small smile forming on his lips. “I didn’t steal anything from you this time.”

Yes, you did, Harry wants to say. My breath. My focus. My fucking heart.

He only knows he wants to steal something from Malfoy in return.

So he marches up to him. Malfoy watches him with a lifted eyebrow, but his expression changes as Harry comes closer. He steps backwards, his back hitting the windowpane. It’s too dark to make out the subtle ripples of emotion on Malfoy’s face, but Harry sees wariness, hesitation. Vulnerability, as he closes his fingers around Malfoy’s chin, cups his jaw. Malfoy’s skin is smooth, with just a hint of stubble underneath the pads of Harry’s fingers. He hears the catch of Malfoy’s breath; can feel his own, stuck in his throat. His face is barely an inch away from Malfoy’s, bathed in Malfoy’s warm breath. He smells of smoke, clean laundry, that masculine cologne with hints of leather and cut grass. And Harry wants… He wants… He wants things he’d always been told he shouldn’t. He wants more than Malfoy’s mouth on his cock, more than Malfoy falling to his knees to avoid Harry’s eyes, more than the hurried, impersonal taking of pleasure with no chance of giving it back. He wants to feel Malfoy — the whole of him — wants to feel that lean, hard body against him. He wants to bring Malfoy’s face to his, and so he does, with a tug of his fingers in Malfoy’s hair.

Malfoy’s eyes are grey and wide, a line forming between his brows.

“Potter…” he whispers, and Harry pulls him down and kisses him.

It’s a slow, exploring kiss. The swell of Malfoy’s lower lip is soft under Harry’s tongue; the angles of Malfoy’s hips, pressing into Harry’s, are shocking and wonderful in their maleness. For a passing second, Harry’s mind rifles through the kisses he’s shared with girls. The mental inventory crumbles to insignificance when Malfoy opens his mouth with a soft moan and lets Harry in. Harry surges in, deepening the kiss. He brings his other hand up to cup the side of Malfoy’s neck, his jaw. He tastes cigarettes and the bitter sweetness of his own come on Malfoy’s tongue, and something melts in his chest, hot and trickling. He could get to his knees for Malfoy in this moment. He could drop to his knees and free the erection he can feel straining against his own and suck Malfoy until he hears him cry— 

Malfoy pulls back, a hand on Harry’s cheek. 

“I— Potter,” he says, and there’s something akin to regret in his tone. He pushes Harry off him, so gently it almost doesn’t feel like a rebuttal. “I’ve got to go.”

Harry stares, slack-jawed. “You’ve got to go,” he repeats, feeling rejected and dumb. 

Malfoy slides out of the corner where their kiss had backed him into.

“Big day tomorrow. It’s been a pleasure.”

“It’s been my pleasure,” Harry sputters, “and only mine. I wanted—”

There’s a second of hesitation in Malfoy’s eyes, but his expression sets to neutral too fast for Harry to read into it. He backs away, hands lifted in apology, a rueful smile on his kiss-pinked lips. “The pleasure’s all mine, Potter. You don’t owe me anything.”

Malfoy turns and hurtles down the narrow staircase. Harry knows better than to run after him.

I hope you could helpe find a fic, it's after the 8th years I think right after Harry has to go to London and Zabinni has a car so he was the one who had to bring him back but he can't for some reason and it's Draco who comes to pick him up to bring him back to the station. And then they will meet several times in London over the years or the year I can't remember very well.
