✧・creating a personal library system that actually works゜✧・゜✧
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
hey lovelies!
so last weekend i had a complete meltdown when i couldn't find my copy of "pride and prejudice" (the one with all my notes!) and ended up reorganizing my entire book collection at 2am. classic me behavior. but honestly? it was the best decision i've made in ages because now i actually know where everything is and i'm not buying duplicate books anymore (yes, i somehow owned three copies of "the bell jar"… don't ask).
i thought i'd share my super simple system for keeping track of my little library in case any of you are drowning in books too!
⋆.ೃ࿔:・ the physical organization ・:.ೃ࿔
i tried organizing by color once and while it looked pretty on instagram, it was literally impossible to find anything. so now i do a mix of these categories that actually makes sense for how i use my books:
favorites shelf - these are my ride-or-die books that i reread constantly and want to grab easily
to-be-read shelf - keeps all my unread books in one place so they don't get lost in the mix
read-but-keeping shelf - books i've finished but want to hold onto
reference section - cookbooks, style guides, etc that i need to access quickly
borrowed books corner - a special spot just for books that aren't mine so i actually remember to return them (sorry to everyone waiting for their books back…)
within each section, i organize alphabetically by author because i'm basic like that. but honestly it works!
⋆.ೃ࿔:・ the tracking system ・:.ೃ࿔.
this is the game changer! i used to rely on my memory (lol) to keep track of what i'd read until i found myself 50 pages into a book before realizing i'd already read it. now i use:
a simple reading journal - nothing fancy, just a notebook where i write the title, author, when i started/finished it, and a few thoughts
sticky flags in different colors - blue for beautiful quotes, pink for plot points i want to remember, yellow for things to research later
the inside cover trick - i write the date i finished the book and a tiny heart rating (♥♥♥♥♥) system on the inside cover
a digital backup - i use storygraph (not goodreads all the time because amazon owns enough of my life) to keep a digital record
⋆.ೃ࿔:・ the borrowing system ・:⋆.ೃ࿔:・
if you're like me and constantly lending books to friends (or borrowing them), this will save your friendships:
a dedicated "lending library" note in my phone with who has what and when they borrowed it
book plates that say "borrowed from mindy's library" (these were like $8 online and so worth it)
a rule that i only lend books i'm okay with never seeing again (learned this one the hard way)
⋆.ೃ࿔:・ the "did i already read this?" solution ・:.ೃ࿔
this was my biggest problem! now i:
take a quick photo of books i read but don't keep (like library books)
keep a "books i've read" list in my notes app for quick reference while browsing bookstores
add a tiny dot on the upper right corner of the first page of books i own and have finished
it's not a perfect system but it's simple enough that i actually stick with it! the key is finding what works for your reading habits rather than trying to create some instagram-perfect color-coded situation that you'll abandon after a week.
what about you guys? any genius book organization hacks i should know about?
xoxo, mindy 🤍

Library system flag
A flag for systems who feel a connection to, feel represented by, and/or just like a library. The system may also be a library.
Note that this is not an origin term.

ever since i got access to american library cards thanks to tumblr user anneemay (pbuh) 2 weeks ago ive lost even the 3% sympathy i had for americans crying ofc we’re stupid and illiterate our schools suck!!! because you assholes have had FREE ACCESS to THOUSANDS of books and audiobooks and classic films this ENTIRE TIME you’ve been blaming your schools for your elected ignorance!!! from my home in India I’ve listened to eight audiobooks and watched half of cronenberg’s oevre and I’m watching nosferatu (1922) today and I can’t even go to a library in person and you people have had these things your entire life yet you come on tumblr at 18 19 20 and say you don’t know who james baldwin is and if you expect me to you’re classist and 18 year old Americans are too stupid to know bombing foreign countries kills people so it’s okay if they choose to do that rather than work at McDonald’s and of course I have no idea what stocks are or what colonialism is and MCU is the height of cinema and it’s feminist to wear makeup like. my god. you people are going to go through the rest of your life being incoherently stupid and it’s not because you’re poor and it’s not because your schools suck but its because you’re so ensconced in your American privilege that you will never be forced to confront the realities of life and you can go on living your Disney adult fantasies because you’ve destroyed your innate human curiosity and potential at the altar of hyper consumption.

I have now read All Systems Red from The Murderbot Diaries, and I think the main charm of it is I went in fully expecting a "Humans treat robots like appliances then some of them slowly learn not to because of This One Special Example" but instead the crew immediately goes "No, Murderbot is a person. Look at it, it's got anxiety."
Meanwhile, Murderbot itself is like "Why was I cursed with a face. Please treat me like an appliance so I don't have to make eye contact with any of you. I've got anxiety."

"But if college was free, then people would abuse that and get useless degrees" hell yeah I would! If I could go to college without debt I would make it my job to get a degree in every little thing that interested me. I'd get a doctorate in film studies. I'd have a bachelor's degree for every science I like. I'd try to learn at least 5 languages with varying results. I would learn something "useful" like coding and then follow it up with a ""useless"" degree like art history. I'd be the world record speed run holder for getting every degree possible.
But I can't afford college without going into massive debt, so instead I spent the last 5 years trying to figure out what I am passionate enough about to consider going into debt over, because unfortunately being passionate about everything is extremely expensive to pursue.

Koha Library System: Empowering Libraries with Open-Source Efficiency
In today's fast-paced digital world, libraries face the challenge of adopting modern technology while preserving their core mission of providing knowledge access to communities. Koha Library System, an open-source Integrated Library System (ILS), has emerged as a robust solution that empowers libraries of all sizes to efficiently manage their collections, streamline operations, and enhance user experiences. This article delves into the features, advantages, and impact of the Koha Library System in the contemporary library landscape.
Introducing Koha Library System:
Koha, a Maori word meaning "gift" or "donation," embodies the spirit of open-source collaboration. Developed in 1999 by a team of librarians led by Katipo Communications in New Zealand, Koha has evolved into a comprehensive ILS that continues to be maintained and enhanced by a global community of developers and library professionals.
Key Features and Functionality:
a. Web-Based Interface: Koha boasts a user-friendly, web-based interface, making it accessible from any device with an internet connection. This interface allows library staff and patrons to access the system seamlessly, promoting ease of use and efficient management.
b. Cataloging and Metadata Management: The system facilitates streamlined cataloging processes, enabling librarians to create, edit, and update bibliographic records with ease. It supports various metadata standards, enhancing data accuracy and consistency.
c. Patron Management: Koha offers comprehensive patron management tools, allowing libraries to register users, manage borrowing privileges, and track individual reading histories effectively.
d. Circulation and Acquisitions: The system simplifies circulation workflows, automating tasks like loan management, renewals, and holds. Additionally, Koha provides features for managing acquisitions and budgets, ensuring efficient procurement processes.
e. Reporting and Analytics: Koha equips libraries with reporting and analytics tools to gather insights into circulation patterns, item popularity, and other essential metrics. This data-driven approach aids in informed decision-making and resource optimization.
Advantages and Impact:
a. Cost-Effective: Being an open-source solution, Koha eliminates licensing fees and allows libraries to allocate their budgets more strategically, directing funds towards acquiring resources or expanding services.
b. Community Collaboration: The global community behind Koha actively collaborates on development, enhancements, and bug fixes. This community-driven approach ensures continuous improvement and timely responses to evolving library needs.
c. Customization and Flexibility: Libraries have the freedom to tailor Koha according to their specific requirements, such as implementing custom workflows or integrating with external systems. This adaptability enhances user experiences and operational efficiency.
d. Empowering Small and Medium Libraries: Koha's scalability makes it a valuable tool for libraries of all sizes. It offers smaller institutions the same level of functionality and support as larger ones, fostering inclusivity and resource-sharing among libraries.
Conclusion:
In the rapidly changing landscape of information management, the Koha Library System emerges as a beacon of open-source efficiency for libraries worldwide. With its user-friendly interface, extensive features, and collaborative community, Koha empowers libraries to deliver exceptional services, engage patrons, and adapt to the evolving needs of the digital age. By embracing the gift of Koha, libraries are equipped to thrive and remain at the heart of knowledge dissemination and community enrichment.

I can imagine after a while Black Rasin Cookie and maybe some other villagers just make plans to drive Plain Yogurt Cookie away from the village, or at least Healer Cookie, because of how much they do not like his vibes and Healer is not really listening.
Plan after plan, with various degrees of success, I can also see Plain Yogurt getting so fed up that he almost breaks character in front of Healer. Luckily, he was able to pull himself up by his boots' strips and stay in character enough. Later, however, he will get them back, and he will get them back good.
When Black Raisin asked him to accompany her on patrol, Shadow Milk already knew something annoying was going to happen.
There have been a few plots over the past few weeks between Black Raisin and a few of the more stubborn villagers, plots that involve trying to push Shadow Milk out of the village. It was funny at first, mostly because they were such pathetic attempts, but they just kept coming. Black Raisin is clearly determined, even though her accomplices have slowly backed down, accepting Shadow Milk's presence.
It was obvious this was going to be another attempt. Black Raisin never wants him on patrol, which is usually convenient, because Shadow Milk doesn't particularly want to patrol either. Still, Shadow Milk played along, just to see what she would come up with.
Somehow, he hadn't fully considered the possibility of this.
It was quick. One moment they were walking along the edge of the Raisin Cliffs, the silence between them thick and terse, and the next Shadow Milk was being pushed off the side to plummet down to his death.
The fall is more than long enough for Shadow Milk to fortify his body with magic, but it still irritates him when he hits the ground, the wind knocked out of him as a few tiny cracks spider along his dough. He lays still as he watches the tiny dark splotch that is Black Raisin lean over the edge to peer down at him, before disappearing again, seemingly satisfied that he was taken care of.
Shadow Milk would be impressed with her audacity, with her gumption and gall, if he wasn't absolutely furious that she had somehow managed to pull such a sloppy trick off. He had mistakenly assumed that she would at least avoid killing him, since she seemed to care so much about Pure Vanilla's opinion, but it seemed her devotion to him didn't extend to accepting his silly ideals. Ugh.
Shadow Milk warps himself back to the village and stumbles over to the healer's tent. With every step, his cracks grow to frankly ridiculous sizes, a physical illusion that does little to actually affect him.
"I'm hurt!" He wails as he bursts into the healer's tent, ignoring the fact that Pure Vanilla seems to be in the middle of helping another Cookie as he collapses to the floor. "Ah, everything hurts!"
"Plain Yogurt?" Pure Vanilla calls, alarmed, and excuses himself from his other patient to scramble over to his side. Shadow Milk's anger eases into a sickly satisfaction as he watches Pure Vanilla fuss over him, his dough growing pale as he gently traces those exaggerated cracks. "Oh, what happened?"
"I don't know, I didn't see much. Ask Black Raisin when she gets back." Shadow Milk sniffs.
Black Raisin's face when she enters the healer's tent and sees Pure Vanilla tending to Shadow Milk is nothing short of priceless. She looks utterly crushed, a stormy despair swirling in her eyes as she stutters, "You- how did you-?"
"Ah, Black Raisin!" Pure Vanilla turns to her eagerly, his hand still resting warmly against Shadow Milk's chest. "Do you know what happened to Plain Yogurt? He says he doesn't know for certain what happened, but the damage is awful. It's almost as bad as when he first arrived!"
Black Raisin stiffens at the question, and Shadow Milk flashes her a dark, smug grin. So? What will you do now? Go on, lie.
"I don't know either. I lost track of him somewhere by the cliffs." She answers slowly, averting her gaze. Her crow hunkers down on her shoulder, as if it feels guilty too. "...Maybe he's just clumsy."
Clumsy. Clumsy. Him?
Shadow Milk barks out a laugh, far too sharp to be anything less than maniacal, and just barely manages to cut himself off devolving into cackles. He grits his fangs together, balling his hands into fists to hide the claws that have torn through his fingers. He imagines, briefly but vividly, tearing Black Raisin apart piece by piece and feeding her crumbs to the crows she loves so much.
Pure Vanilla turns back to him, worried. "Plain Yogurt? Are you alright?"
No, he wants to lunge at Black Raisin, who is watching him with unnerved eyes, and rip her throat out with his teeth. But he can't say that, he can't do that. Yet.
"Hurts." He croaks out in a growl, forcefully craning his head towards Pure Vanilla and letting the hot gold of his magic try and fail to wash him clean of his frustration.

"Passion has little to do with euphoria and everything to do with patience. It is not about feeling good. It is about endurance. Like patience, passion comes from the same Latin root: pati. It does not mean to flow with exuberance. It means to suffer.” ― Mark Z. Danielewski, House of Leaves
