We both have a bad habit of saying “I’m sorry.” Kyle usually apologizes when he comes in from working to find I made him dinner. He built me this whole garden and my first response was to apologize for the work he had to do. Every Sunday morning he takes off to go grocery shopping with me, I tell him I’m sorry. It’s silly, really, because it’s not what we mean. I’ve been trying to practice shifting my language so that my words reflect my heart. Now, instead of saying “I feel terrible that you spent the last two weeks working until sundown to set up the garden,” I say “ i’m so grateful that you put all that hard work into building me a beautiful garden.” These subtle shifts not only change your attitude, they impact the people around us. Kyle is more excited to do things for me, even things he doesn’t necessarily want to do, if he knows it makes me happy and grateful. Imagine if every time we did something nice for someone, they said they felt bad. It doesn’t exactly encourage your good behavior or make you feel good. Gratitude makes every party involved happy. I was just telling @silticrafts on the photo of my hand on the shovel in my garden yesterday that my Vinca Minor was Green mostly all year here in Ohio. I had said that it didnt bloom during winter!
