anyway this is why, despite the fact that i firmly believe that dc has the better characters and the better stories and, for me at least, is the one that engages me more and that i'm the most emotionally invested in, marvel's the one that i'm currently even attempting to follow current continuity on, because i know they're doing fuckery with spiderman but doctor strange is my main marvel guy okay, and they brought clea back when she's my fave character of their's, and jed mackay is a good writer who both likes and understands these characters, so i'm really only interested in modern doctor strange and refusing to even look too closely at dc's current train wreck beyond what my mutuals are telling me is happening

What was the last comic you read & your least favorite?
@pin-crusher2000
Last comic:
Supersons haha, because I love rereading it
Least favorite:
Ooooh sooooo many!!!😤
(Incoming spoilers about some of them btw, in case you plan on reading some of these)
1. The comic that Bendis wrote, which caused Jon's whole age up and then changed everything for him in his life in main comics after that
2. The Supersons comic that starred the older, current version of the boys, because even though it was supposed to be like "Oh look fans! The boys are back!!", It just wasn't the same since DC already messed things up. And there were also some ooc moments inside the book too in a way where it felt like they swapped a bit of personalities🤨, which was pretty odd and didnt help so much for the enjoyment either
3. Don't know if you know this video game series or not, but it's called Telltales the walking dead games, and after the series ended, a comic series called Clementine was released a while after that and it's all so horrible, because it ruins everything about Clementine (the main character) and the good ending she had in the last game, making all the struggles she went through in her survival journey over the years to keep living and hopefully find peace one day seem like it was all actually for nothing. The writer doesn't understand her at all and mischaracterizes her so much that it's super annoying!! I HATE that book so much!!!😤😤 That is not my Clementine, just Tangerine
4. The Legion of heroes comic where they met Damian, because the way they treated and spoke about him, especially right in front of him and also Jon who they know is his friend, was just so disgusting to see and I was disappointed in the way Jon handled it and how he still joined their team after that AND the fact that he still dated Saturn girl too. His written reaction during that moment just wasn't enough, because I believe he should've been way more mad about it all, lost some respected interest in their group, and have his feelings on Saturn girl really changed up afterwards, which he would've been right for and it fits his character better because he's protective of his loved ones like that
5. Marvel zombies. I've never read it before, so I can't say if anythings wrong with it, since I don't know how most of it's story throughout the series goes to actually say if it has good or bad writing, but I just hate whenever I see it, because it's all just really gross and too messed up for me. Don't get me wrong though, because I love apocalypse stories, they're my faves, it's just that looking at this series and the stuff that happens on page feels a bit too much for me
6. Beast Boy by Kami Garcia.
Idk if this counts enough to be added into the list, cause the book was good, it was fine, it's just an annoying thing that stuck with me that changes my view on the book whenever I reread it now, because Beast boy seemed like he was genuinely really into the popular girl in the story, but then at the end it turned out he was actually just using her to get the feel of being popular and that just didn't sit so well with me when I read that part, because that just only makes it look like that's all he ever really wanted from her now and wasn't actually interested fr, even when he did look like it. Then he just runs off onto an adventure in the end after admitting to his friends that he didn't actually care that much about her anymore, just when he had finally gotten her invested in him and it's like, dude, what the heck??? That's how you handle it????
7. "Beast boy loves Raven" and "Robin" both by Kami Garcia
These are both also fine stories, it's just another thing about one of the romances, which doesn't let me really get through the books so well the way I want to. Damian falls for Raven's sister in "Beast boy loves Raven", a little too quickly tbh, and soon starts dating her, which is continued in "Robin" (because ofc he does, he can never just be a single kid that's not being set up everytime with whatever same age girl they can throw at him or just can't be left not crushing on some mature woman who's way too old for him, which is just icky whenever that happens). It feels weird because he's instantly into her the second they meet without him getting to know her, he's flirting right away back with her when he doesn't actually get like that in canon and mostly keeps his feelings to himself when it comes to crushes since he's reserved, and then he begins dating her after not too long and then they're pretty close and so cutesy playful as a couple, which should be fine, but it's just the way it's done that feels off to me loll, and I'm not so sure how to exactly explain the vibe, like it's too overly sweet in a way that's just not fitting because it was kind of quick and Damian seemed way too expressive with it a lot??? Probably not the right way to say it, idk lmaooo, but a friend of mines also understands and feels the same on the whole topic here. Like, it all just feels ooc on Damian's part the way his character there handles the whole thing. And this is not because I'm a Damijon fan loll, cause even if it was Jon in the love interest role instead of Raven's sister in the two books, I wouldn't want it to be rushed either. I would want Damian to have to get to know him better too before actually developing any romantic feelings and showing any signs of interest in him, and after a good while of getting to do that, then he grows more comfortable around him and they start dating later, cause that would fit his character better and would make the cute, playfulness feel more fitting in the relationship and seem more natural since they've already gotten close enough to be that way. It's one of the reasons why I like Damijon lol, because they're both already so close in their friendship, that dating could work between them so well. Once again though, this is all just my opinion that I'm expressing
8. I am not Starfire
That book is just so dumb lmaooo, only the art is good. Mandy, the daughter of Starfire, is an annoying, spoiled child who only envies and disrespects her Mother, makes everything about herself, gets too mad about everything for no good reason, and she doesn't even share any Tamaranean features with Starfire in looks either, except for the green eyes and very normal looking ginger hair, like seriously??? Dick is obviously the Dad, but he won't step up to get involved at all and pretends this isn't his problem, and I hate that this a trope that keeps happening whenever Dick and Starfire have kids with eachother, one of them gets taken away or either just leaves the other on their own to deal with everything, which sucks, because they should be able to be a happy family all together already where the kids grow up with them both in their lives, not more of this. Anyways, besides those mentioned things, everything else in this book is also very annoying and makes no sense too and it's not worth the read at all because of it
9. The Injustice crossover with Jon
Most of that book was annoying, like for example when Injustice!Clark broke Jay's arm and then Jon threateningly went into Ultra power mode just to....give Clark a hug for it. Like wtf lmaoooo???? He was overly playing pacifist and it was so, so stupidly silly. And I don't even know what's going on in that universe now after he left it, like that's how much of nothing he did in there, except get sassy with everyone and try befriending Injustice!Damian lolll, which made things feel like a literal waste of time in the crossover when it seemed like he would actually try changing things up in there somehow
Okay, so I think that's it for now, cause I can't think of anymore books at the moment lol, so thanks for the ask, crusher! I like that I got to express about some of these! :)
(I apologize if these rants were a bit much btw, I just get like that sometimes because I don't get to do it enough😅, so, sorry about that, unless you're fine with it though and actually like reading that, which is awesome then, cause then I've got a good listener loll)

Hey Cat!
I feel like one of the reasons a lot of movies suck is because they don't put enough effort into writing the script/dialogue, and the plot sometimes feels like it's been butchered at least 300 times before being dumped on the audience n calling it a day.
Take The Amazing Spiderman, for example. I don't actually hate TAS, in a way, I kind of like it. But what pisses me off about it is that it had the potential to be so much more. Like Andrew Garfield is an acting genius, and he did play one of the best Peter Parkers ever imo. There's a human behind Flash instead of the classic dumb hs bully.
It's the villains that annoy me. They feel so out-of-nowhere. Like the lizard guy, I don't really feel like I care about him existing so the fight between him and Spiderman doesn't invoke much emotion. The witty one-liners were fun though Ig.
Also, killing Gwen. Yes yes, there's nothing wrong w/a sad movie, but this felt more like a plot device than the natural flow of the story. Like yeah, Spiderman's alr experienced his harsh wake-up call when Uncle Ben died, so thia feels unnecessary. I'd understand a bittersweet breakup as the price of being a hero, but I'd still fricking hate it. Gwen was smart and funny and perfect for Peter, so maybe if it was just ups n downs but they got together, that would be fine. But no, let's just kill another female character for shock value.
Imo, Harry Osborn was lowkey a crappy villain in this one.
That aside, the main reason I absolutely adore the Dark Knight trilogy is the dialogue. It is written so well n is so fricking memorable. Because I like the villains. I can see their motives, but I still root for the hero because Bruce is shown to have a human side. He messes up and pushes people away, but he tries his hardest, yk. But the villains are compelling, and I actually loved Ra'as al Ghul in the 1st movie. (Joker needs no introspection)
TAS is the example of movies abt a great hero, with wonderful actors and actually good humour, but a weird as hell plot and villains that feel too cartoonish. I still prefer it to Toby Maguire's trilogy.
I'm sooo sorry for the essay, Cat. Idk what hit me.
Love,
~Lamy ❤️
To be honest, I’ve never had any strong feelings about Spider-Man. I like the character but the movies never really impressed me until Into the Spiderverse came out. I don’t know, Marvel is disappointing in itself and in general I think DC villains are more interesting (and they have Nightwing 🤭😫😫😩).

the last issue of Young Justice: Targets is out now on amazon and DC Universe Infinite. and a free version here.
this very well may be the last we ever see of Earth-16.
I think back to around this exact day six years ago when it was announced that YJ was finally renewed for a 3rd season after it had been canceled in 2012.
I have to say I was really disappointed in season 3 for a number of reasons. I didn't like that they had the team members lying and keeping secrets from each other when they already learned in season 2 not to do that. it just felt like rehashing previous themes. I found season 4 much more enjoyable but it did still have some flaws, mainly some characters being sidelined in their own arcs.
I'm going to pour my heart out a little bit here but only because this is likely the end of the yjtv universe and I have to say just how much this show really meant to me, especially about 10 years ago. it first aired when I was 14 and I was pretty depressed back then. I've talked about this in these posts from several years ago: here, here, and here. the point is that I was sad and lonely when the show first came out and watching it made me feel less alone. I had suicide ideation and I remember thinking to myself "I can't kill myself because then I'll miss the new episode of Young Justice" which I know is sad but that's just how I was back then. the show literally saved by life. I'm in a much better place now mentally (no longer in high school at least).
I fully admit that I have on rose-colored glasses when it comes to this show. I mean I just criticized season 3 but I do still have a lot of love for this show, especially season 1. but I'm not going to pretend like it's loyal to the comics in the slightest. like I totally understand that a lot of people don't like yjtv because of how different the characters, relationships, and back stories are. I totally understand not liking it because it's definitely not an adaptions of the 1998 Young Justice comic run (which is a crying shame because that run deserves a faithful animated adaptation).
but it's the show that got me into DC Comics! I was into Marvel when I was younger and yjtv is the first DC property that I ever really got attached to. (I had seen bits and pieces of Shumacher's Batman and Robin movie and also the Teen Titans Trouble in Tokyo movie but that's about it as far as DC stuff I was familiar with back then) so the Young Justice animated show does hold a special place in my heart for that reason. it inspired me to watch Batman the animated series, Batman Beyond, and Justice League/Unlimited. I don't know if I ever would have really gotten into DC as much as I did if I had never watched yjtv at that critical time in my life as a teenager. it's strange to think just how different my life might have been if I had never watched it. or maybe my life wouldn't have been any different at all. who knows. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I still just have a lot of love for the show despite all of its many flaws but some of the flaws are kind of hard to ignore. idk I feel like I'm rambling. I don't know where I'm going with this but I am having some feelings about this probably being the last Earth-16 thing we ever get to see. I was sad when HBO didn't pick it up for a 5th season but maybe it's for the best.
let's just say there's a reason why my blog description is what it is: "yj helped me not kill myself 10 years ago so now I feel the need to continue praising it even though it doesn't warm my heart the same way that it used to and it genuinely hurts to admit that."
(but also I do actually kind of really want that season 5 and beyond so like please renew it warner bros please)

and introduction.
meet elijah.
Tumblr media
hey guys! im lina! im 18 and im in the cst timezone. im currently a freshman in college and ive also been rping for like 6 years now ( i started on the neopets chat boards. if thats not an embarrassing fun fact idk what is ) but i havent rped since this summer since school was and still is kicking my ass. im really into musical theater, marvel & dc, and disney! i also used to be a lifeguard at a great wolf lodge for 2 years so if u want any funny stories about stupid children, or even just wanna be friends, lmk! im also SUPER sorry this intro is so late. i was gonna do it yesterday but then my friends wanted to hang and it kinda went downhill from there. im actually posting this like 20 min before i have a lab practical so i wont be able to reply until late tonight, but like this post to plot or anything!
some fun facts abt elijah:
he was adopted when he was around 3-4? he was abandoned and left on the back of a merchant cart headed to corona, where he was then discovered and then put into the local orphanage since no one was sure where he came from or who left him. all he had was a stuffed bear (named wooly), a basket of water and fruits to eat, and a letter that explained that:
his name was elijah
he was 2 (born on february 28th)
his parents couldnt care for him, so they hoped he would be found by a kind soul who could either take care of and love him, or else get him to someone who could
they loved him and only left him in the hopes that he would have a better life
he lived in the orphanage for almost 2 years and the few months before the 2nd anniversary of his arrival, rapunzel & eugene visited the orphanage that eugene grew up in and fell in love w/ eli, promptly adopting him soon after. he barely remembers anything about his abandonment and time in the orphanage, but always wanted to find his birth parents and let them know how he turned out. he kept the bear and basket in his room but carries the letter around with him in his wallet wherever he goes.
his full name is elijah frederic fitzherbert. he was given the middle name frederic in honor of his grandfather.
but, he much rather prefers eli. doesnt mind formalities but insists on people who know him to call him by his nickname. except he HATES being called “highness” bc he thinks it sounds stupid. he wont get upset per se if u keep referring to him as “your highness” but he will get annoyed
he very much wants to fulfill his role as “corona’s golden boy” by contributing back to his people. he worries for the kingdom more than he worries for himself and is always trying to prove that he is worthy of being a prince rather than just some random kid who got lucky enough to get adopted. most of his days are spent doing modest favors and helping out the townspeople or visiting the villages surrounding the kingdom.
when he’s in the castle you can almost always find him in the kitchen! boi loves to bake and cook. he loves the way food can bring joy to everyone. he often makes goods to give to the townspeople or the kids at the orphanage, where he volunteers at least every 2 weeks when hes not busy w prince stuff.
has an acute fear of disappointment. he feels so much pressure to prove his worth that came from growing up thinking if he did anything wrong he’d be sent back to orphanage, esp since his parents had another child. they wouldn’t want or need him anymore. he mostly got over this when he broke a vase when he was 12 and tried to run away from home, except he fell out the tree that he used to climb out his window and broke his leg lmao. his parents assured him that no matter what he did they would still love him and never abandon him, and his dad also taught him how to climb trees and roofs without dying (much to his mom’s chagrin). even tho hes pretty much over it, it kinda lingers subconsciously. thus, he overcompensates in everything he does and gets overly anxious about small problems
growing up he thought the stories that his dad told him about his past were so cool, despite the fact that he would almost always only hear those stories when he was being taught lessons of what he shouldnt do. he used to run around pretending to be flynn rider and his dad played along, planning play heists for them to do together (think scott & cassie in that one scene from ant man and the wasp) but they stopped when eli hit that age where he thought it was embarrassing to play w his dad. but, it really helped him bond w eugene and help him work on his coordination bc eli is CLUMSY AF
eli legit trips over nothing at least twice a day.
he bonded w his mom through art tho, which eventually turned into aesthetic desserts and meals! thats another reason why he loves baking and cooking so much.
when his 1st sibling was born when he was 5 at first he was jealous. he didnt get much attention at the orphanage due to the fact that there were so many kids and he was just starting to get used to the idea of having parents didnt have tons of kids always trying to win their affection and attention. he thought having a little sibling was the worst thing in the world and would hide from his parents bc if they couldnt find him they couldnt send him away. he hated his sibling.
until he met them. the second he saw their chubby face he was hooked. he swore that he would do anything and everything for them. and that continued when his parents adopted his other siblings as well. he absolutely adores them and acts like the protective older bro role
thankfully, with such a large age gap eli never rlly had to go through any of those petty squabbles that siblings usually have. he was always pretty protective of them tho and would fight when he thought they were being reckless and dumb out of his own fear that if they got hurt he would be an awful big brother (again, fear of disappointment)
he loves to travel bc his mom would always take him to these extravagant kingdoms and on these amazing sightseeing trips
this boy is hopeless when it comes to love. i can imagine lots of ppl liking him on top of all the ppl throwing themselves at him bc royal, but him being completely oblivious and thinking that no one likes him.
he had rlly bad ADD as a kid but its gotten better as hes grown. he still occasionally struggles w executive functioning tho and always gets rlly frustrated when he cant focus or remember
like i said earlier, clumsy af. no coordination. the only athletic ability he ever had was horse riding and running
that said he has a horse named may (short for mayonnaise. dont ask
he likes music a lot. prob learned piano at a young age
he probably is at the party bc royals? idk
EDIT: although (currently) unknown to eli, his true birth mother is maleficent. when eli was 2, his birth father took him away from her and had her suppress eli’s natural born powers. his father realized he was unfit to care for him, so he was the one who abandoned eli.
wanted connections!!
obv his parents and siblings? i mean cmon
one ( or both???? ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) ) of his birth parents!!!!! they dont have to know that eli is their son or mayb they do and are too scared to tell him, but being trapped together will eventually make it revealed
childhood friends! people he met when he traveled w his mom or met at royal social functions? i rlly also want friends that he would hang w at all the royal galas and stuff and they would go do dumb stuff like look sneak out and look for secret passages of make bets of who could dump more crab cakes into the stuffy duchess’ purse when she wasnt looking
people who know him solely through his family
someone who likes eli and eli legit has no clue, no matter how much they flirt and drop hints
people who hate eli! or even just dislike him, which makes him upset bc he doesnt like the idea that there are ppl who dont like him in the world. mayb bc sometimes he gets super highstrung when things arent going how they should b and he like lashed out at them once or something. maybe they hate his parents and on principle hate him. idk
someone who was w eli in the orphanage
past relationships? i feel like hes never rlly had a bad breakup tho, its just that they prob just didnt work out. hes also bi so they can b any gender. hes still looking for his otp
idk, legit anything. send me those plots man

*asks you all of them*
oh my god are you kidding me lmao
well here goes. see you on the other side
1. What was the first Marvel film you’ve ever watched?
I think it was The Incredible Hulk? I believe my dad had downloaded it for me to watch en route to the south of France. I remember being so fucking invested in his relationship with Liv. Lmao. That movie was a mess but alright. It took a few years more to get invested into the universe, I had no idea what was going on.
2. What got you into the MCU in the first place?
Idk? I honest to God don’t remember. I think I started watching Iron Man, and then CATFA, and that was it? I love Superhero movies, they give off such a hopeful vibe.
3. Which Marvel superhero portrayal is better in the comics than in the movies?
I have never read the comics so I can’t answer this xD
4. Who’s your favourite Marvel superhero and why?
The only correct answer here is obviously Black Panther, but I honestly love most if not all of them. Natasha is obviously my favourite character of all time (SHE NEEDS LIKE THREE MOVIES ALREADY WHAT KIND OF SEXISM)
5. Who’s your least favourite Marvel superhero and why?
Iron Man (*proceeds to hide from the lynch parties*). Like, especially IM2 Iron Man, I just dislike the pure privilege that that man has, and he’s still like “well my life sucks so imma ruin the only good relationship i have”. I don’t hate him or anything, and while I disagree with what he does in CACW I can totally see where he’s coming from and it’s painful. But yeah, I don’t like superheroes who just throw a lot of money at things and then do stuff (Batman is my least favourite DC superhero too, so it’s not limited to Tony lmao)
6. Any MCU ships? Characters or actors.
As a rule I don’t ship actors unless they’re in an actual relationship, but Marvel really messed up when they ruined Clintasha. That ship is the freaking best. Other than that, nothing much.
7. Which MCU ship should be canon? Characters or actors.
Clintasha.
8. Who’s the strongest Avenger?
Natasha Romanoff. Home girl uses the underestimation of stupid men (AND GODS) and uses it to break them down. All on her own strength, no powers required.
9. Any underrated Avenger? Any overrated Avenger?
Underrated: Hawkeye. Overrated: Iron Man.
10. Which Avenger deserved better and why?
NATASHA FREAKING ROMANOFF. she did not deserve to be reduced to a love interest to Bruce and then pretend like the thing that made her The Worst^tm is the fact that she could not have kids, @whedon get the fuck out of here.
11. Favourite MCU movie and why?
Black Panther. If you’ve watched it, you know why.
12. Least favourite MCU movie and why?
Age of Ultron. Oh my God I don’t even know where to begin. Whedon ruined Clintasha, Natasha’s character and killed a loveable dork all in one go. Nope.
13. Which MCU movie did you think was going to be disappointing but it’s now one of your faves?
I think Civil War. I still think it’s so stupid that they went to war over this stupid accord (Cap is obvsly right but that’s beside the point), but it was less stupid than I expected.
14. Any theories about what will happen in Infinity War 2?
The people who died come back to life, and the Phase 1 characters either die or leave the Avengers. Thanos gets whacked over the head by Deadpool.
15. If you wrote Infinity War 2, which characters would you kill for good and why?
None. I hate killing characters when their stories are done.
Actually no, that’s not true. Thanos. Definitely Thanos.
16. Which MCU sequel/future movie are you most excited about? Why?
Black Panther 2, Captain Marvel, Black Widow standalone. Black Panther was amazing, so I need more (ALSO I NEED MORE OF MY BADASS PRINCESS). Captain Marvel because after a fucking decade there’s finally gonna be a badass female-led marvel superhero. It’s ten years too late, but ok. Same reason for Black Widow.
17. What is your opinion about Captain Marvel becoming the face of the MCU after Infinity War 2?
I AM EXCITED OH MY GOD
18. If you had to introduce a new character to the MCU, from the comics or completely made up by yourself, who would it be? What would their abilities be? Would they have any love interest? What role would they play in the MCU?
Deadpool obviously. HE needs to become part of the Avengers and get with Spidey already (tho Tom and Ryan are too far apart in age but I’m sure they can figure it out).
19. Some people say certain actors were born for their roles. Do you think any MCU actors/actresses were made to play their character?
Yes all of them. They are their characters and their characters are them. It’s like Marvel grew them.
20. Which MCU actor/actress do you think is more similar to their character and why?
RDJ is obviously Tony. Like there’s no difference they’re the exact same person lmao.
THank you

I'm talkative today so since the new spiderman movie trailer was released today I'm going to say something CONTROVERSIAL...
I never really cared much about Spiderman (well at least not until the Into the Spiderverse movie came out). I just didn't really care, I liked some of the first movies decently enough as a kid but not enough to go "oh I love spiderman." The new series they made after I could not get into and I haven't bothered to watch these recent ones where he is Iron man's sidekick basically or something like that idk I haven't seen them lol (honestly a big reason I don't give a shit about watching these recent spiderman movies is because I REALLY don't give a shit about Iron man). I did see Avengers Civil war which... even then I wasn't really interested in Spiderman, I know i know, if y'all love spiderman y'all probably will HATE me for saying that lol but honestly I didn't care the only one that really interested me in that movie was Black panther. Also doesn't help learning that this recent MCU version of Spiderman is a blatant copy of Miles Morales from the comics (they've literally stolen so much from Miles story, which has made others & me curious as to what exactly they are going to do with the second Into the Spiderverse).
Also honestly don't care for many of their more mainstream big superheros besides X-Men related characters (Storm & Wolverine were my favs as a kid, I liked the cartoon). For DC I at least like Batman, Wonder women (although the movies REALLY disappointed me, just... so bad, Wonder Woman deserves better lol), liked the Teen Titans cartoon, Raven was my fav. Its not much more honestly lol, never been too big on Marvel or DC and most the few Superhero comics I've read have been Batman or more recently other variations on popular heros like Kamala Khan, Spider Gwen, and a new one called America Chavez otherwise I haven't really read much Marvel/DC superhero comics (I say this because at least for DC they have... scratch that HAD because I guess they closed that down last year, huh, anyway they had a different branch called Vertigo that while it did do superheros as well its stuff was not solely superhero related work, I've actually read a decent amount of Vertigo comics... well at least compared to DC or Marvels main stuff lol such as American Vampire, Fables, V for Vendetta (one of my favs), Watchman, Sandman, Death, Kingdom Come, and probably one of two more I didn't care for.

some thoughts on jl
For of all, I just want to rant about the sexist undertones that pissed me off:
there’s a scene where flash lands all over wonder woman with basically his face in her cleavage and while he immediately gets up, there’s a deliberate pause where you’re supposed to laugh at the ‘awkwardness’? it’s unnecessary and pretty much not funny
in the only scene mera has, arthur and her have an argument. there is no context at all, so it really doesn’t make much sense, but at one point arthur says something really out of place and mera asks him to basically show her some respect, to which he responds with something even more rude (i don’t remember precisely but it made me cringe a lot) and then even worse, later one when he has the lasso around him, arthur admits how incredibly gorgeous he thinks diana is. um he is a married man? arthur just felt uncharacteristically disrespectful towards mera
there are way too many shots of diana’s ass, perhaps some unintentionally but still, and during one scene, diana is seen wearing this huge cleavage, which is fine, or would have been if they hadn’t purposely squeezed her boobs out as much as they could to make they look big
finally, superman. the suit and tie he is seen wearing in the coffin and in the kryptonian water thing, magically disappears when he breaks through the roof? so then we’re left with loooong shots of his half naked body, as he fights the team. and then even when he brings lois to the farm, he’s still shirtless and her hand is on his abs and she goes ‘you smell good’. that just felt weird to me, idk.
About the film as a whole, starting with the negatives:
I’m still trying to get over the shock of how different the overall tone, plot, character relationships and overall everything is from mos and bvs... so I might sound harsher than I actually feel towards the movie. But I need to let a few things out so bear with me.
Man of Steel beautifully explored a realistic approach to how men would react to an actual alien. That is, with fear and mistrust. At the end of MoS, Superman is established as a hero who save the world but then in BvS the cost of this man saving the world on his own are discussed and it creates more division, we all know where Batman stands. Basically these two movies fit perfectly together, and the reason the tones are ‘dark and grim’ is because of how realistic they try to be. Superman doesn’t smile much because for all the good he tries to do, most of the world still resents him. The Martha scene is also explained by Bruce’s ptsd. Anyway.
At no point in Justice League did I feel like what was happening was realistic. Instead of normal colors, everything is shiny and too bright, Superman’s suit looks fake compared to the previous movies, especially in the final battle. While you would expect Superman to feel traumatized by literally having died, he simply has a small angry fit for about five minutes, then it’s gone and he’s out there smiling (even though he sacrificed himself to save everyone and yet the world is still ending) and cracking jokes about his own death. Even Batman makes jokes? Way too many?
I expected Lois Lane, who was there when Bruce was about to kill her boyfriend, to be really angry with Bruce, but instead, she encourages Clark to fight with the team, even though it’s only been a few hours since he’s been back, and even though she should be even more scared about the risks of Clark dying than she was in bvs.
The jokes were mostly funny and appreciated but some fell flat and were just inserted to fill in the gaps. I used to praise dc movies for not making marvel’s mistake of having the characters joking around during battle because it takes all the danger of the situation away, and now I guess that’s over because that’s what happened during the entire final battle.
Now, Bruce and Diana. I was already not a fan of the idea of the only woman on the team just having to have romantic chemistry with one of the men. It’s just cliché and predictable. Their mini fight moment felt weird to me, Diana illogically pokes at Bruce’s guilt about Clark’s death (ike yes obviously he feels guilty?), and Bruce childishly brings up Steve Trevor. Not cool. Then again, some people argue it was a technique to get Diana to agree to his plan or whatever so I might be misinterpreting it.
The final battle scene just seemed very anticlimactic to me, there are too many slow motions that fragment the fast pace of the action, and the close ups of Henry making faces are just... bad.
I realize I’m making it look like I hated the movie, but it’s far from that. I laughed a lot, and it was incredible seeing all these characters finally brought to the big screen together. I do wished Barry and Bruce’s relationship could have been more developed because they have much in common in terms of parents absence and love of science. But obviously that required longer running time. I absolutely loved Cyborg’s character, he was definitely the best part of the movie for me. From the trailers, it seemed like he would have the least important part out of all the members, but actually his character was really well developed. He was basically the only one that successfully stayed serious while making a few jokes. I really enjoyed the first battle scene the league has without superman, it was basically the only time their powers were all used effectively. Barry was also really in character, aside from a few jokes that could have been avoided, and the very very last scene with Lex and Deathstroke was probably my favorite thing about the movie, it really tied the movie well to the previous movies.
Conclusion: I was disappointed but still enjoyed it, I preferred BvS much more, and I wish Zack had directed it all on his own. I’m just waiting for a director’s cut.

( JEON WONWOO | CISMALE | HE/HIM ) you’ve heard of matthew kim, right ?? wait, really ? they’re the friendly writer who’s way too obsessed with music, geek culture, & web toons. somehow, they managed to major in english in college. i think they’re twenty-one. they’re the kind of boy next door that enjoys doodling all over his notebooks or any papers around him, staying home to read a good book or watch a tv show instead of going out, & writing song lyrics. some people told me they’re supposedly pretty imaginative, supportive, & considerate. but i think they’re just blinded by a pretty face. they’re clearly laid-back, forgetful, & compulsive. their favorite thing about buzzfeed is the quizzes.
‘SUP KIDS! this is your friendly neighborhood spider-man hels, the mid-20s old ass woman girl who typed an app in record time and almost hurt herself (the problems of being old, istg). you know what else is a record? me, having a 21 year old muse. IT’S BEEN MONTHS, ISTG, I’M THE GRANDMA FRIEND™ (please refer to this post) I CAN’T KEEP UP WITH YOU YOUNGSTERS. but here i am, SO LOVE MY BABY GEEK LAZY BOY. he’s very Relatable as you all might notice in this post and in future interactions djaskld. ALSO!! i didn’t forget the people in my ims, ok, i will get there in a bit. but if we ain’t talking yet and you’d like to plot with matthew, like this post and i will message you! enough about ooc bs, let’s go to the interesting (and actual helpful to plot) part, shall we!?
everyone knows him by matthew, but that’s his “adopted” english name. his real name is kim joohyuk. he’s too used to matthew (or matt), though!! his mother (and me) is the only one who still calls him joohyuk or hyukie.
talking about his mother: she is his only family. she got pregnant during high school, the child was obviously her boyfriend’s, but he couldn’t accept the situation (it would ruin his future, the college applications he had already sent, would make his parents drop him, for sure). on another hand, she never thought on not having the child, as she grew up in a christian, catholic family. telling her parents was a pain, though―they said how disappointed they were and how they would not help her, that she would have to take full responsibility for her doings. and so she did: through struggles of moving far away from her family and past for her own sake, she gave birth to matthew in new jersey.
the age difference between he and his mom is 17, almost 18. that being said, it comes with no surprise that she is his best friend. she raised him, making sure he would never think she didn’t support him, and basically put all her future on him. he knows her story and she is the person he admires the most and never stops trying to make her even more proud of him.
truth be told, he had a pretty normal childhood. he was a happy, intelligent kid, very accepting of others, had a lot of friends and played with them a lot. he also played soccer growing up and, tbh, he’s pretty good? though he became kind lazy the older he got...
although bullied in middle and high school, he managed to keep himself together. of course, though, that made him grow a bit more introverted and insecure, more into trying to enjoy his own person and not putting much expectation on other people (or even himself).
he was always a year ahead, thus, he got into college earlier and recently graduated in nyu. he was an intern in buzzfeed new york, but after graduation, he got transfered to atlanta as a writer (he couldn’t be happier, tbh).
although his mother doesn’t live with him, she did move to atlanta too. talk about the best mom and hype woman in the world.
i wouldn’t say he is new around here, because, you know, he’s been in atlanta for months now so...
EXTRA STUFF...
“has he ever been to sdcc?” you can bet he saved money just to go literally to the other side of the country (as he lived in new york) just to go to sdcc (he went at least three years in a roll during college). “but there’s a comic con in new york!” he doesn’t care, he wanted SAN DIEGO’s.
“what kind of tv shows he likes?” sci-fi, anything that doesn’t make any sense, comedy shows, anything that makes him think too hard.
though his taste for books follow this same thing, he doesn’t deny “classics”... he’s a bookworm... he reads anything, truly.
“marvel or dc?” he prefers to die than to choose (but he is trash for xmen, so... you see the problem...)
as for music... he listens pretty much anything? it really depends on his mood.
which brings me to: he will sing disney movies songs, he might even sing high school musical (rip son), and he will quote animation movies and expect you to get it (and if you don’t, he will shake his head with a tsk)
ngl, he’s kind of a hopeless romantic. you know those people who believe in fate and “things happen for a reason”? so... matthew.
he’s always writing something... either for work or for himself. from song lyrics to actual stories, either messy organized on his desk or on his laptop’s folders.
ALSO! his specs are for real... he has eyestrain and little astigmatism. but no, he doesn’t use them all the time, but at work? while writing? definitely!
so, that all being said, let’s talk about PLOTS: anything is very wanted, so bring it on, fAM!! a best friend, close friends, ex fling (i am saying fling bc??? “has matthew ever dated for real?” idk man???), other writers!!!!!, people who try to drag him out and he gets all “my tv shows won’t be watched by themselves”, people to complain about his mess at work, people to press him to do his stuff on time, people from the tasty team that has to kick him out before he gets the food, neighbors!!!!!....... seriously, anything, just come @ me and let’s brainstorm

Movies, I love movies...
Okay, it's happening again. Getting addicted to thing, I mean. And wanting to share my addiction and shout it to the world but not having even friends to open up to... So, Tumblr, here I'm again, basically talking to walls I guess but it's okay 'cause I've got used to it. (Basically my whole life has been that idk.)
I've had flu for the past 4 days so I've just stayed at home watching tv all day. Yesterday I started feeling like watching those (newer) Marvel movies that I haven't watched before so yesterday, I started with Iron Man 2 (which I also have had on dvd for years but have never watched that) and watched couple of movies I hadn't seen yet and now I'm pissed because I want to watch more and on Netflix (Finland at least) there's every Captain America movie but I really don't want to watch the third one when there's two other movies between them BUT THOSE ARE NOT ON NETFLIX and I don't know what I'm gonna do with my life. I want to watch more but I just hate to do things in "wrong order", no ocd here (at least something that ISN'T mental in my life wooohoo), but it's just something I like and what makes me happy. But also annoyed sometimes. You know, I have the second Thor on dvd (I might have a little obsession with pairings and I regretted buying that dvd but I did it just because of the pairing, now how pathetic is that? :DDDDDDD) but I don't have the first one. And every time I see that dvd at supermarkets I just WANT to buy it so bad because it looks stupid to have only tje 2nd in my shelf but I don't want to buy it because only thing I like in that movie is Loki and, yeah, I don't want the DVD but I want it. Struggle is real!!!!!!!!
...so I need to see more but I guess I have to start searching for the missing movies as DVDs in order to watch the rest if the movies on Netflix 😐 (One day, I swear, I will buy that first Thor dvd so it doesn't look so idiotic to have just Thor2 next to Iron Man and Iron Man 2 dvds hnnnnngh---)
Also I struggled because I felt like watching all of the movies in order but I didn't feel like rewatching some of them and I couldn't stop thinking about how this comes after this which I have seen but a long time ago argh what am i gonna do??? Well ended up just rewinding them to see if I remember everything and to see if I had watched through the end credits too.
[[[HERE I NEEDED THE READ MORE LINK BUT FORGOT HOW TO ADD IT ON MOBILE??? Or did the app just change?]]]
About the Marvel movies overall... Well I grew up with "superhero movies" and I'll always be tru Batman fan and I'll avoid this reboot of the DC franchise as I'm this stupid avoid-all-what's-mainstream kinda person who loves to stick to the "old stuff", and I've also watched lots of Marvel movies and have collected some of those on dvds as well.
I'm proudly one of those who love the original Spider-Man trilogy with Tobey Maguire. For me it's special because I was 13 or so when I first saw it on tv and it touched me because I was heavily bullied and rejected at school and it just made me feel better to see someone going through bullying and then finally defending themselves.
X-Men was also another trilogy that I used to watch and that I liked a lot and I still do. I have each of them on dvd. X-Men are still my favorite from Marvel and I grew a huge obsession to Deadpool a while before his first movie and there's no turning back, I'm still a huge fan and can't wait for the second movie and if had to talk using internet slang, DP would probably be my spirit animal. I'm still annoyed he has to be just a comic book character but fortunately we have Ryan Reynolds there somewhere which is almost like having the real DP in this world.
With the newer movies... Idk why they never got me. Maybe it's the same as with Batman: I love the Batman universe but I act like no other DC universe existed and I ALWAYS hated Superman (Lego Batman would be proud wait what?) when I was a kid so I guess it was same thing with the X-Men for me. And Spider-Man. Actually I think it's this my issue with not being able to adjust to new things that easily that made me not to be interested in those newer movies and I just stuck to the X-Men franchise and spent my energy for new things with Nolan's Batman trilogy.
I don't even know why and when I got that Iron Man dvd but must have been my first newer-Marvel dvd. I guess Robert Downey Jr. was the biggest reason and honestly, I still don't know if I like Iron Man because of Iron Man or because of Robert Downey Jr. 🤔 Anyway, I like Iron Man best from all these and I actually have liked all three movies too. For me they've been more interesting than... the rest? (of what I've seen so far.)
At first I was also annoyed by Captain America's character and I don't even know why. He seemed so negative for some reason - remember that at that time I had seen him only in the Avengers movie - but actually both of what I watched today were pretty interesting. (And I found a ship and can't see anything from behind it anymore. Probably the reason why these movies got so much more interesting so fast..... Sorry, can't help myself.)
I guess the only movies I didn't like that much were both Thor movies and Avengers. Why? Thor is basically a love story and I can't stand love stories and I can't understand love or romance. So I'm just fed up with all that cheesy romantic love story that I just wanna puke. I don't remember if the second movie was any better. I've watched it only once. But I rewinded it today and it seemed boring, mainly cause I could remember every scene as I saw the little images. And Avengers then? Well it's okay, I guess I just was so inspired by Loki's "You're free from freedom" speech that it woke up the anarchist in me that I can't remember anything but Loki and how I melted into another identity crisis and started hating society for not having freedom over my own life because some idiot once invented money and rules. (I'm too kind you know...) Otherwise it was bit cheesy and cliché, I was able to "predict" what's gonna happen so I was probably great company while watching the movie because I couldn't keep my mouth shut and kept telling what happens and "didn't I just say???" and kept criticizing everything they did cause HOW MUCH MORE WRONG CAN YOU GET? Like what about CPR instead of watching your friend die who didn't even die, what about pulse or breath, you know?
But I don't think these are that bad at all. It's just. Funny to see how the plots are usually built the same way. Evil vs good, two different plots told to the audience and these plots will be connected towards the end. After watching this many superhero movies you just KNOW who will be the main villain in this particular one because of the way they're portrayed. Either something completely opposite loser-like OR something mysterious and nameless, powerful and feared character whose face is not seen at the beginning at all. Yeah, I hate clichés. Also with Marvel (minus X-Men) everything often seem to be so black and white. Either it's bad or good but there's no in-between and good will get bad when infected or enchanted or manipulated whatsoever and in the end they will always be back to being good. (With Batman I love how psychological everything is and nothing is black and white. Same with X-Men, it's not always good or bad but just people being imperfect and different.)
I think the main thing to inspire me to start watching these was the LEGO Marvel's Avengers game, it was about the movies and the levels were interesting. Also a while ago I saw the first Captain America movie on tv but couldn't watch it then and every now and then I've felt like I want to hear his story so yeah, I watched some of these today and was not disappointed, at all.
DISCLAIMER: So these are all my own thoughts and opinions so please don't get mad. Or do if you feel like that? My purpose is not to make anyone mad but just talk nonsense to myself but as I hate hearing my voice, I rather do that by writing somewhere instead of really talking to myself. I hate fighting (but live a good talk!) anyway so take it as honest opinions, just my thoughts written down. Not all can like the same things nor can all dislike the same things either. Thank you.

I'm gonna send a lot :) :DC, Marvel, Borderlands, Gayperion, Carol Danvers
001 | Send me a fandom and I will tell you my (DC):
Favorite character: i have a lot of characters i really love in dc but no one really jumps out as my top favorite above all others…. i’m going to say selina because i love her in a lot of media and i picked up the current batman comic to read about her specifically (and then dropped them when she left lol, i’l have to pick up her solo series sometime too)
Least Favorite character: hmmm………..i don’t know……….can i say jervis from gotham specifically? he makes my skin crawl in a very bad way and i kinda want to punch him in the face. although he also has his charming moments and i think his power-set makes for a very interesting villain hmmm. OH can i say all the various Big and Boring Cosmic Villains like Steppenwolf??? they all blur together and i just don’t care about any of them
5 Favorite ships (canon or non-canon): selina/bruce, harley/pamela, oswald/ed, raven/beast boy, diana/steve
Character I find most attractive: diana aka wonder woman aka have my heart
Character I would marry: as much as i want to say diana, i feel like i would constantly be overwhelmed with awe around her so maybe that’s not a good idea………. can i marry bruce for his money?
Character I would be best friends with: if she wasn’t evil, pamela, she could be one of my fellow grad students (y’know, in another life). i would hang with steph too, she’s cool
A random thought: dc was my first superhero love, teen titans specifically, and that show probably laid the groundwork for what i want in my superhero teams. also i should get back to reading dc comics
An unpopular opinion: i don’t think this is unpopular exactly but the joker is overused, there are so many other good batman villains
My canon OTP: bruce/selina (GIVE ME THEIR WEDDING YOU COWARDS)
Non-canon OTP: harley/pamela except it’s canon in some verses if i remember correctly sooooooooooooooooo :)
Most badass character: i want to say diana……..and i can’t think of anyone more badass so
Pairing I am not a fan of: clark/diana is just Bad, what were they thinking?
Character I feel the writers screwed up (in one way or another): it’s comics, who hasn’t been screwed up by a writer at some point? ok but jokes aside, no one specific is coming to mind right now
Favourite friendship: i love all the batfam so *points at all of them*
001 | Send me a fandom and I will tell you my (Marvel):
Favorite character: i don’t know how you could possibly expect me to choose a single character when there are so many………….. carol at the moment, kamala and mj and peter (parker, not quill) in general are at the top of the list too
Least Favorite character: ……………….there’s probably someone i hate…… but no one is coming to mind…… i guess thanos? i can’t believe he got a solo series
5 Favorite ships (canon or non-canon): the spidey ot4 (peter/harry/gwen/mj), steve/tony, carol/jessica, carol/maria, clint/natasha
Character I find most attractive: ooooooooo, a good question. i think i’ll go with carol because brie larson is
Character I would marry: if it had to be a superhero, janet. if not, gwen and we would run away together and never get involved with the angst of superheroes
Character I would be best friends with: maybe cindy moon (she likes pokemon! and is just a lovely person!) or gwen
A random thought: in the avengers tower that absolutely exists and that they all live in (at least part of the time), tony builds additional rooms for all the new members. he puts glowing stars up in carol’s room and calls her space-face and laughs when she chooses star wars for movie night because of course that’s what you pick, danvers
An unpopular opinion: spider-man h*mecoming is bad and it isn’t a comics-accurate adaptation of spider-man, let alone the most accurate
My canon OTP: any of the canon ships within the ot4 - but if i had to choose just one, it’d be peter/mj. all the good comics history
Non-canon OTP: THE SPIDEY OT4, MY ULTIMATE MARVEL SHIP
Most badass character: CAROL ‘SORRY I’M A BADASS’ DANVERS
Pairing I am not a fan of: sp*deypool is the ultimate notp. i don’t get why it has such a massive following
Character I feel the writers screwed up (in one way or another): see my above point about comics (though the other thing about comics is that once there’s a switch in writers, it often resolves itself). currently, i feel this way about peter (although i’m behind so maybe spencer’s undid all the slott nonsense) + eddie and the symbiote (not so much their individual characters but the relationship between them)
Favourite friendship: steve and carol and tony currrently
001 | Send me a fandom and I will tell you my (Borderlands):
Favorite character: lilith or fiona
Least Favorite character: i love them all but salvador is….. well i just don’t have as much of a connection to him (sorry sal)
5 Favorite ships (canon or non-canon): lilith/roland, brick/mordecai, fiona/rhys, rhys/vaughn, athena/janey
Character I find most attractive: lilith. also amara who may outcompete lilith, we shall see
Character I would marry: would i marry any of them?? (the answer is no but i guess if i had to, maybe janey? at the very least, she could repair any problems in our house)
Character I would be best friends with: janey possibly
A random thought: each set of vault hunters is a weird dysfunctional family and nothing can convince me otherwise (i will be sorely disappointed if the bl2 gang aren’t close in bl3)
An unpopular opinion: there’s more to borderlands than handsome jack and i wish fandom would focus on some of the other characters more
My canon OTP: lilith/roland or athena/janey
Non-canon OTP: rhys/vaughn just edges out fiona/rhys
Most badass character: zer0
Pairing I am not a fan of: rhys/handsome jack
Character I feel the writers screwed up (in one way or another): no one really except where they killed roland and it was sad
Favourite friendship: i love timothy and athena as friends
002 | send me a ship and I will tell you (gayperion):
when or if I started shipping it: i think it was sometime during episode 1???? i can’t remember a specific moment, it just kinda happened
my thoughts: they’re very good and it would be even more amazing for them to date now. can you imagine the ceo of atlas with the scruffy leader of a bandit gang (who also happens to be a math nerd)? SO GOOD
What makes me happy about them: they’re best friends, they have a lot of stupid jokes between them, they very clearly would go to the end of the earth for each other
What makes me sad about them: the fear that they may never interact in bl3
Things done in fanfic that annoys me: there isn’t enough fic for me to have noticed any annoying tropes
Things I look for in fanfic: any fic in general
Who I’d be comfortable them ending up with, if not each other: rhys/fiona
My happily ever after for them: they haven’t spoken for a while but vaughn comes along on sanctuary (idk how he ends up there, maybe he’s upset with his bandits leaving for the children of the vault) and then he hears rhys’ voice over the comm for the first time in YEARS, he could cry, he’s so happy. anyway us vault hunters help rhys out with his maliwan problem, vaughn and rhys reunite, there are tears and hugs and then they kiss and have to figure out what they want (hint: they want to be together forever but rhys has a company and vaughn has his bandits and they need to navigate that complexity - but they do and it’s awesome)
003 | Give me a character & I will tell you (carol danvers):
How I feel about this character: if you told me last year that i would fall in love with carol, and read everything i could with her, i probably would not have believed you. but here i am, almost caught up with the captain marvel comics and helplessly in love with her. i love her bravery, her humor, her impulsiveness, her kindness, her fight-me attitude, her determination, her cockiness - really i love everything about her and i’m inspired by her drive to be better and to protect as many people as she can (also the whole speech but especially this quote at the end of captain marvel (2012) #1: and we will be the stars we were always meant to be GETS me every time i see it, i love ambitious ladies who reach for the stars)
All the people I ship romantically with this character: carol/jess is the ultimate 616 otp while carol/maria is the ultimate mcu otp. i also like carol/rhodey and i read a ship manifesto for carol/wanda that has made me interested in learning more about them
My non-romantic OTP for this character: steve and tony, i can’t choose between her two relationships with them because they’re both so good (it might be tony??? he helped her through aa and i love their snark? but then steve and carol are also very good). also in the mcu, nick fury, their chemistry is GOLD
My unpopular opinion about this character: i hate that so many people have started putting carol into the role of peter’s mom/aunt, not every adult that interacts with him is automatically his parental figure and she has no real reason to feel that way towards him. also they went on a couple dates in the comics and even though i don’t ship it, it’s weird to think about
One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon: LET HER DATE A WOMAN
My OTP: …………how could i possibly choose between carol/jess and carol/maria………….they’re both so good in different ways
My OT3: i don’t have one for her although now i’m considering whether a jess/carol/maria situation would work idk i feel like it wouldn’t just because there would be this imbalance in two of them having superpowers and maria unable to join in their superhero battles so??? idk. i need to think about it a little more

City or Countryside: I’m a city girl 43. Would you rather be a mutant, jedi, or wizard? Honestly, I’d love to be any of these, but for some reason the Jedi life is calling my name. Wonder Woman
I had such a roller coaster of expectations before seeing this movie. If you read my list of anticipated films on new years, you’ll know I was looking forward to this the most. I was ready to defend it from critics just because of my love of Wonder Woman and female superhero movies.
And then critics started coming in RAVING about it, and I was so happy!....until I realized it couldn’t possibly that perfect. Until I realized that maybe critics liked it because it was basically a marvel movie instead of a DC movie, or they liked it for some reason that I’d end up hating, and my expectations started getting worried.
But then I came out of that theater, and you know what, its not a perfect movie, what is? Sure there were some changes here and there I could make, some things that weren’t the best, but you know fucking what?
Wonder Woman’s heart was there. It was there, right there at the center. And because they nailed that, nothing else matters.
Lets talk about the flaws real quick, though.
The Bad Stuff
So, right off the bat the greek god legends they put into this were weird as heck. It was not a traditional greek god telling, and I only realized after I got home that its because they were doing christian greek gods. Okay, but really, Zeus as god, Ares as the fallen angel who hates humans and whispers in their ears to influence them (shush he kinda does a bit) and Diana as Jesus because.....well, it is still a DCEU movie, folks.
On the whole it didn’t bother me too much it was just weird and I think there were ways to have like....not made your hero jesus? but at least it was love jesus, so okay.
I felt like there was a scene missing of Diana going back to Themyscira before going into modern times. IDK. MAYBE they’ll want to pull another movie out of that, but i doubt it.
Am I the only one who kinda wishes after the reveal they replaced David Thewlis with a different actor? Like. Eh. This villain did not feel very Ares god of war. Honestly none of the villains were really that great, but its still a superhero movie, so *shrug*
Did Charlie ever actually snipe someone? we never really found out his story. Was the point he DIDN’T snipe someone?
This also shows its a DCEU movie because like....every action scene had about 10 times more than necessary slow mo. Some of them were needed. Not all of them. if you played all of those at regular speed you’d cut 10 minutes off the film.
aaaaaaaand thats it for Bad Stuff, lets talk about Good Stuff
The Good Stuff
The biggest thing here, and I mean the BIGGEST, was the message. It was clear, concise, but...also complicated? and Very very wonderwoman. About humanity not being perfect, but still should be protected, guided to be better. Its about believing in Love in all things.
And geez the way this played out? The dawning realization for Diana that not one single entity, even a god, caused the cruelty of mankind, but that its more complicated. Its in everyone, even those she loves, maybe even herself. That Good and Evil is not so straightforward. Holy shit. So good.
The ‘godkiller’ part was also thematically appropriate. I remember a post talking about being disappointed that Wonder Woman was often depicted with a sword these days, and I get that. I thought it was just going to be a truth of the films that we’d be stuck with violent Diana. But damn, when that sword SHATTERED! I mean, I wasn’t totally surprised, I kinda expected that the god killer would have actually been her, but still FUCK. The whole final battle sequence was with  her lasso, and her final move to defeat Ares was one of protection.
Okay this is going to be something I’ll need to see the movie again for, but from what it looked like, while Wonder Woman was totally 100% on board with killing people, for MOST of her fight scenes, The killing blow was always her second. She’d first try to do some nonlethal damage like punching, or using the lasso to trap them. It was only when they continued pursuing she used a sword, and holy fuck if THAT isn’t thematically appropriate for Wonder Woman. The others, sure, Steve was ready to shoot to kill. But that was Diana’s 2nd move.
The dialogue pieces were nice. People keep saying the romance between Steve and Diana is on point, and it is. Its MAYBE a tad rushed when they get to the actual kissing part, but I’ll put that down as it was war and they had little time. I DID appreciate that even after the kissy stuff, they didn’t treat each other any different.
That’s actually another great point, Steve Trevor was marvelous. He was sorta the comedic relief (brilliant idea to combine that with the love interest) but he was heartfelt when he needed to be. I was so in love with the moment he wrapped the lasso around his own hand. After he had been imprisoned in that thing, it was like, the ultimate trust move on his part. And trust clearly doesn’t come easily for him. Plus he was such a good counterpoint to Diana’s ideals. I was sad he died, but did kinda expect it.
THIS FILM HAS DIVERSITY!!!! Its not perfect, and there’s still a LOT of white, but of the main crew, one was brown, another Native American (actually that was another great point in the thematically “things are more complicated than they appear”) Although...did they say his tribe? Hmm. That is disappointing now that I think about it.....BUT the BACKGROUND characters were also pretty diverse and that was...that was amazing for a ‘historical’ movie. Honestly, they could have made everyone white and there would have been complaints, but they’d be protected mostly. First off there was Nyobe with the Amazons (!!!!!). Then in the background you had even more, I saw multiple background actors with Turbans and everything and it was...it was glorious.
Also I think they tried to sneak in some lesbians. They never made it overt, but we all saw the scene where Antiope died and was crowded by her niece, her sister, and Other Amazon who came running. Also, she’s dead, what more proof do you need of lesbianship? (cries forever)
But yeah. Flawed? Maybe. But Holy SHIT this was a good movie. It had that good balance of humor and action and moral compass. But like I said, it had heart. And thats what makes a superhero film.
Also a boss soundtrack, holy SHIT

WisCon 42 panel Comics Onscreen
Comic Books On Screen panel description:
Marvel and DC are currently battling it out on both the big and small screens for dominance with multiple movies coming out yearly, as well as new shows on various networks and streaming sites. There are also multiple shows on SyFy based on comics, as well as The Walking Dead and Comic Book Men series on AMC; Riverdale, which is based loosely on the Archie comics characters; and Amazon Prime has picked up a revival of The Tick. Let's dig in and discuss these tv and movie adaptations. Are we getting enough representation? Which shows and films are doing better, and which worse?
Moderator Alex Jennings with panelists Terri Ash, Erin Kelly, Jessica Plummer, and Cath Schaff-Stump.
Reminder that these panel notes are only my own recollections and the things I managed to write down - my notes are incomplete and likely faulty in places. Corrections and additions are always welcome. Especially please do correct me if I get names or pronouns wrong!
Also I name panelists as that’s publicly available information but not audience members unless requested by that person to have their named added.
[This panel was on Monday morning and I was so tired. So tired. This panel was a lot of fun and I mostly just listened and laughed a lot, so there are not a lot notes.]
Alex started things off asking about people’s dream adaptations. His was Ava DuVernay’s New Gods, which is actually happening. Also Jeremy Whitley’s Princeless [and then my notes read “funny She-Hulk stuff” so I am unsure if Alex was talking about wanting a funny She-Hulk adaptation of if he was being funny while talking about She-Hulk - IDK.]
Jessica answered with DC’s Blue Beetle and Booster Gold and something by John Rogers which I can’t read my own writing to see what it was [LOL I WAS SO TIRED, FOLKS.]
Alex talked about Green Lantern and there was a lot of discussion about that which my tired self did not totally follow.
Terri brought up Captain Marvel and how excited she is about that and everyone agreed.
Cath mentioned Sabrina the Teenage Witch and generally the horror comics in the Riverdale universe.
Alex said he is cautiously optimistic about the new Cloak and Dagger show, especially since it takes place in New Orleans. He is glad that the MCU is starting to decentralize NYC a little.
The next question was about adaptation disappointments. Alex said he already burned Green Lantern.
There was some conversation about the majority of the X-Men movies being disappointments with the exception of Logan.
Terri added that The Gifted is doing some interesting things.
Jessica said Arrow is a disappointment with it’s sad, dark, wannabe Batman narrative. The show started out trying to be political but just wasn’t smart enough to do it well. Also Flash and Supergirl started out good but got worse over time. On the other hand, Legends keeps getting better.
Terri said that she is loving Supergirl, but maybe that’s because she wasn’t a comics reader before watching it.
Erin talked about how at least Arrow birthed other interesting shows/characters. And also credit to Smallville for starting that trend.
Cath brought up Iron Fist and there was much complaining and venting about that show as a disappointment all around. Also comparisons with Dr. Strange.
Alex said that Into the Badlands is proof that Iron Fist didn’t have to be bad.
Some discussion about how Daredevil should have focused more on the law procedural aspect. Lots of Foggy love on this panel. Cath was surprised that anyone else liked Foggy. Jessica replied with - “oh my friend, come to tumblr.” Terri advised - “or maybe not... it’s a hole you maybe don’t want to go down.” Cath said - “if there’s Foggy down there, I’ll follow!” [lmao this panel was Wild for a Monday morning, folks.]
Terri vented about her Thanos issues - does he know life is going to reproduce? Jessica quipped “people gonna fuck”. Cath added - “or whatever that species does.” Jessica replied “spores gonna ... spore...” Terri added “beings gonna reproduce!”
There was a conversation about if Thanos had been doing it for love like in the comics, it at least might have made more sense. I believe the phrase “corpse bouquet” was used.
Erin talked about how fans were calling Thanos weak (and other more gendered slurs) for doing it out of love. Toxic masculinity caused them to seek another motive. [Yuck.]
Cath recommended Justice League Unlimited.
And wow that is all I managed to write down.
Before the panel, several audience members including myself held a little mini-panel about Riverdale. During the panel, both I and another of these audience members raised our hands and turned out we had the same question about non-superhero comic shows. Someone on the panel said “you can just say Riverdale.” There was also a quip about “just because The Walking Dead is on the panel description, doesn’t mean we have to talk about it, do we?” Anyway, Riverdale was discussed a bit but IIRC that was it outside of superhero comics. I think I want to write up a more general panel about adaptations for next year, but we’ll see.
This is my last formal panel write-up. Woo.

Hi. How's your day or night so far? I hope it's good. Hmm, Summer school is useful to get ahead, but it involves a lot note in class time.🌹 A positive is that usually the professors grade a smidgen easier because 1. The kid is taking the class over the summer break, which is kinda sad AND 2. Sometimes they are paid per kid, so it's be bad to fail out everyone. Anyway, I'm anti-parties of drinking. I just don't do my college's part scene. I've off campus housing and prefer to chill there. 💙
Yes! The lack of respect annoys me. The students in my classes will start packing up before the lecture is even finished. It’s distracting/noisy, but more importantly it’s so disrespectful. Also, they’ll walk out of a lecture after signing the sign in sheet, so maybe after 30 min or so. Anyway, I think I had an ask and then forgot to send it.😅 Basically, I think JK is attempting to make a cash grab by adding the new school/houses. She could do as you said and add the lore, but that–(2) 💙 – probably wouldn’t sell as well. The houses allow people to further identify with the HP universe and feel included. Also, there’s the merch. It’s all about the 💸. On to Alex, I agree with you. She’s the protective older sister type…I doubt she’d even want Mon near Kara until he cleaned up his act some (i.e. not as arrogant/violent/sexist etc).💙 Also, yes to the Sanvers bit. I respect the ship and the rep is great, but it seemed a little fast. Let’s not discuss about that here tho. 😊 3Yeah, Cat was cool. She was very determined and driven. Oh, are you excited about her coming back for the finale? I’m curious how they’ll justify it, but I know a lot of her fans will be glad to see her. 😊 Maybe she’ll talk some sense into Kara…😐 Yes, Morgana is amazing. Hmm, I thought that FMK would be harder for you. I guess you’re a lady who knows who and what she wants. I’m kinda indecisive in general. I want to make the ‘right’ choice so I’ll dither for a while on the decision. (4). 💙 It’s cool that you read comics. I don’t, but wanted to get into it. I was more so DC as a teen/kid, but as an older teen more so Marvel. Now, I’m in both verses. Let’s see I’ve watched: the Justice League, Batman, something with like a young Batman? idk what it was called…I remember the art style though, Teen Titans, Young Justice, and the Powerpuff Girls (yes, I know that’s not DC, but I felt like adding that 😅). I’ve probably seen more, but don’t remember atm. 💙 Did you have fave series?
Hey! My day is okay, Lady has decided to take up some hysterical behavior, which is ironic since she has been castrated. 😁 Get it? cuz hysterectomy. I’m sooo funny.
So yeah, I’m very annoyed when people are disrespectful although I have to admit I have left a lecture or two before it was finished. Not because I had signed in, but because I really can’t stay sometimes, I need air and to not have to concentrate for a few minutes. I’m not much of a party person either, like they make me uncomfortable, but sometimes I get dragged and I don’t always hate it. though drinking too much leads to bad things. Last time I went out drinking really really bad things happened… and I don’t even remember half of it so… not planning on doing that again. I like drinking, but I draw the line. Also I live very far away from the campus and most of the people live near the campus, so going out would be hard even if I wanted to do it more.
Saying you can only do art for art is a little bit silly and hypocrite, but I also don’t agree with making soulless cash grabs just because you know people will buy anything you make or of that genre. That’s what it seems like JK is doing. A lot of things, lately fit that, and I’m not really cool with that. Like, of course, the money is important, but you shouldn’t think only about the money, there has to be a purpose. I don’t mean when you’re in a bad financial place though, like do what you need to not go hungry and to pay your bills, but when you’re at a level where you can dictate what you’ll do without fear of ending up homeless… well, you know. Tell your story, make that story serve its purpose and then move on, don’t go on just because you’re ahead because chances are you will crash and burn and people will only remember your failure.
I miss Cat sooooo much. But I’m afraid they’ll ruin her. Like, I’m torn between ‘Calista wouldn’t accept if it wasn’t up to her standards’ and ‘never trust CW’ so let’s hope they don’t ruin my will to continue watching. There’s only so much I’d do for Katie and Chyler and it’s been very hard to keep going.
I’m very indecisive, actually. It’s a symptom so it’s not entirely my fault. But I do have some preferences sometimes. And Kara is just that character that beats any other. I love her so so much, I’ll always choose her over any other on the show and some others (that’s why the RedK fmk was so hard for me, cuz if it’s RedK forever then it’s not really Kara, but if there’s a chance to get it off…)
Reading comics is a struggle. When I was younger my uncle had the entire collection of Spiderman and he didn’t give it to me but he gave to his son who was 5 at the time and destroyed it all… I’m still bitter about that… it’s been ten years. My mom always gave me a lot of incentive for me to read and a lot of comics, but she preferred when I read Disney comics, or Monica and those that are considered neutral, as in they are not ‘made for boys’. I did read a lot of W.I.T.C.H. like A LOT. I had all the issues and I read that over like at least 5 times. It’s kind of annoying when you talk to a boy about comics and you don’t know as much as he does about a specific situation, or even if you know more than he does, he just acts like he knows more about this, because he is a boy and superheroes are a thing that boys just naturally know more about and that’s how it is. It’s awful.
Power Puff Girls is always worth mentioning. ALWAYS. My stepfather bought a new toaster the other day and I started laughing and saying he shouldn’t leave it near the bathroom as to not get soggy toast and he didn’t get it and it was disappointing for everyone. I think you mean Batman Beyond. I didn’t like it much, I prefer the original series. Everything started with Batman so that’s idk, even if Batman is not my favorite superhero the Animated Series is special. Since it’s a whole universe of crossover/continuations I think I could get away with saying DC Animated Universe, but I won’t. If I have to choose it’s Young Justice, because it’s just amazing and it has Superboy, and Kon-El is a personal favorite of mine, I love him so much. I would sell my soul, if it meant they’d get a worthy version of Kon-El/Connor/Superboy in Supergirl. And I mean really worthy not this crap they did with Valor/Mon-El/Lar Gand just so Arrow fans would like the ‘girly’ show. Superboy is one of my favorite characters and his story is just very attractive to me. We had that in Young Justice so I’ll go with that. But Teen Titans was AMAZING. I would love for them to explore Tamaraneans (Starfire) in Supergirl, that would be cool too. I could go on talking about these cartoons because they are just awesome and a huuuge part of my childhood so I’ll stop now. ⚡ STATIC SHOCK ⚡ WAS ALSO FANTASTIC!!!!!!! okay, I’m done.
I was really into spy cartoons as a kid, did you like those? You know, like KND, Kim Possible, Totally Spies…
Hope you’re having a great day as well 💙
