he didn't start to change until these 2 things happened though.

1 - you fr left. you put up with him for months, and you were fine with how he acted when it didn't feel serious, but now it feels too serious to be treated this way, and he refuses to change. so you're actually done this time.

you disappear, you block his number and any social media he has. you stay away from ur apartment as much as possible so he can't catch you there. you move on with your life.

he doesn't think he cares at first, at all. as you leave after yelling at him about how over everything you are, he literally rolls his eyes and talks to himself about how dumb and dramatic you are. and he keeps living his life.

then 2 weeks go by, again your fights are usually done with within a week, so it's unusual for you to take this long to come back. so he texts you - blocked. he texts you on something else - blocked. he doesn't understand why this is pissing him off so much.

he goes to your house, banging on the door, but no answer. he stays around the area for a few hours but you don't come back, so he finds something to write a little note on your door to tell u to stop being stupid and leaves.

another week goes by and still nothing. now he's actively looking for you. he's going insane. all of his emotions feel bottled up and he doesn't know whether to be mad, cry, or be happy that he doesn't have to worry about you anymore. he's just anxious and all he knows is that at least seeing you will solve is problems

it's been over a month now, and he's distraught. he's mad at you, but he misses you. he sits there overthinking everything he said to you and even though he doesn't really want to put in the effort to change, he does know he treated you badly. he didn't know how he viewed your relationship but you took it serious, so he should have at least tried to. no one else is willing to put so much effort into him, and he fucked it up

he does still have his league assignments though, and this one assignment sends him a bit further away. he decides to fuck around with people, and he's 'chasing' some loser into an alley way with his hand lit up in flames, kinda snickering at how pathetic this person looks terrified out of their mind.

but suddenly, as the rando turns a corner, someone comes out of it, and both you and dabi are surprised to see each other.

you had run off to stay with a friend in this city, and were trying to go to the store while staying off the main streets (being close to dabi for months kinda had an affect on your reputation, so heroes tended to at least stop you to talk if nothing worse)

after a good few seconds of awkward staring, you turned around and booked it. all your hard work was going down the drain and u panicked and ran.

and that was the 2nd thing. you ran from him. he fucked up so badly that you took 1 look at him and ran. he didn't even realize that you noticed the way his eyes got all watery from seeing you, he looked like a kicked puppy.

he was genuinely just sad. still very angry, but sad. he couldn't even bring himself to chase after you, so he just made his way home.

you had been somewhat missing him this whole time, but you didn't regret what you did until you saw his face. it didn't change anything he did, and it didn't mean he loved you or anything, but now you really missed him.

so, you went back to your apartment, but after being gone for a month ur utilities weren't on, and you couldn't be bothered to fix all that yet, so you decided to go back to dabis.

you didn't even knock once you got there, you just let yourself in, having been given a spare key a while ago, but he wasn't there.

so to pass the time, you waited in his bed, and ended up falling asleep. a few hours later, you woke up to the feeling of someone laying behind you, with their arms lazily placed over your side, and you recognized dabis scent so you just went back to sleep

this whole ordeal wasn't really brought up by either of you. dabi thought about all the things you've ever asked him to fix, although he wasn't always actually listening so he didn't remember everything, and he slowly started trying

it did take a while for things to get better, but slowly but surely they did. he'd still throw fits and bitch about things you ask of him, and he'd probably have things he needs you to change too, but you guys would work it out

now, back to just pure headcanons, for when the relationship is good

one second he's overly rough with you then the next he's overly soft. this can be taken either sexually or innocently. he likes to bully you and mess with you in ways that most people would probably think is genuinely mean, but he's not trying to actually hurt you

if he did hurt you on accident he might call u a baby at first but then he'd apologize and like rub his fingers over where u got hurt

he tries to act sneaky with his affection, he wants you to more so be like "when did this happen?" "when did we start cuddling?" that way you 'don't realize' he initiated it. even though obviously you will

kisses are surprisingly gentle. he doesn't really like biting at your lips or shoving his tongue down your throat, they're a lot more gentle and intimate than you'd think

he doesn't kiss you often though, at least not full blown kisses because they hurt his lip, but you'll get pecks here and there. the bottom lip doesn't have too many nerve endings left, but sometimes kisses pull at the staples in his cheeks and that does hurt

showers are hard for him too. he's stinky. again, most of his burnt areas don't feel too much pain, some none at all, but it's kind of just a general uncomfortableness. also, he swears he can feel water seeping in between his flesh where he has his staples. so the only way he's gonna bathe is if you help him (at first, eventually he gets the motivation to do it himself) and he more so prefers sitting in a full tub while he gets scrubbed down and all that, he hates showers

he would set anyone who flirts with you on fire. 0 hesitation. he is possessive, and as your relationship gets healthier he gets more possessive.

he's a nerd, especially when it comes to space. so a serious date he would take you on is stargazing, and he'd describe any constellation or other cool thing he can find to you

he's pretty good at drawing, he'd definitely want tattoos if he was able to get them, but he says that there's no point considering the state of his skin. so, he designs some for you, whether you get them done is up to you. he'd also love if you got him a tattoo gun to do it for you

I love you isn't said until far into the relationship. it gets to a point where it's known between both of you, but neither of you say it. you want to, but you're worried it'll upset him, and he's scared to. in his mind, despite everything you've been through and how much he clearly cares about you, if he doesn't say it, it's not true. which means if you do leave, he can pretend he doesn't care

but he does say it eventually, when you're sleeping and he thinks you're fully asleep. however, you're not, and hearing him say that immediately woke you up and you startled him as your eyes shot open and you looked at him smiling huge

he dead ass tried to run but you grabbed him and told him you love him too, and he basically went yeah whatever :/ and left but it was to hide from embarrassment

dabi, no matter how much he tries to work on his relationship with you, has tons of issues. he's angry, he's anxious and depressed. sometimes something is gonna happen and he might take it out on you, and at first he won't acknowledge it. eventually he will though, and apologizes when he's calmed down some

also, he does want to stay with you, but that doesn't stop him from wanting to achieve his revenge on his family. the only thing that's changed is that he is more determined to make it out alive. he even considers faking his death afterwards, or letting people think he died getting his revenge, that way he doesn't have to deal with all the villain bs anymore

Sure they get more in the anime, but that can be said about literally any character.

Woooooh boy the straiton triplets are obscure alright. I haven't really thought of them much tbh, and when I have, I haven't been able to get many headcanons of my own. But hey, that's what these asks are for, eh? Let's see....

Starting with Cilan, let's get the obvious out of the way. The anime made him a submas twins fanboy, so I'm making him a submas twins fanboy lmao. Moreso due to his interest in trains. Speaking of interests I also feel like he has an interest in botany. I know I know, grass type leader, good with plants, it's cliche yes. But it's more so he can grow his own herbs for meals! It's a group effort between him and his brothers, but off the three, Cilan definitely has the green thumb. I imagine he's also a really good singer, and he likes singing when he's attending the plants. That being said he is painfully shy about it, despite his brothers encouragement. I think Cilan, just from his memory link with his brothers, is the more....non combatant of the three? Both in his shy nature compared to his brothers, but also like. He's more accepting of a certain rhythm or expectation,and doesn't really try to change that? At least to me. Post BW has certainly changed that for him, but it's still a flaw I think. He accepts things how they are even when they aren't great. And it's not entirely his fault, I just think he doesn't always see The Problem, you know?

Chili, ngl, give me younger brother energy. Or maybe middle child energy? No clue lmao. I think, of the three, he's the most interested in battling. He likes the energy of it! Of the three, Chili is arguably the best cook, and has a pretty diverse palette. Sweet, savory, spicy, you name it, he got it! Unlike Cilan, can't sing for shit. Got amazing dance moves though ( a great tap dancer). He....is very bad at ignoring rumors. It doesn't help that Cress is a sucker for them. He's even worse at not taking them to heart sometimes. Sometimes it's justified ( look at the memory link) but sometimes he gets ticked off if someone says anything bad about him or his brothers. He's not good at letting things go ( though, at the same time, he would often forget what he was upset about unless what's being said was really bugging him). Chili is the one that wants to be seen as his own individual with his own strength the most. Cilan is too complacent in his eyes, and Cress....well Cress understands but also thinks Chili's overthinking it ( which, to an extent, he is).

Cress! The trio's main gossiper! I don't know where I got this idea from but it's funny thinking how easily Chili falls for whatever shit Cress talks about. 99% of the time it's fake, but he's not telling Chili that. Cilan can sing, Chili can dance, and Cress can play a mean piano. He also can make a stellar latte. Not in combatant like Cilan, but not as eager for a fight like Chili. He likes battling, naturally, but it's like. " Okay, well I like this enough, sure". I think he's also, somehow, the one who's the most organized of the three? He's the one that makes sure the other two are on track with work in my eyes ( again, that memory link changed how I see these three). It's usually him and Chili butting heads but when there's a moue serious conversation in which Chili and Cilan aren't exactly seeing eye to eye, he's usually the one listening to both sides, and making sure everyone remains level headed ( mostly Chili, but you get it).

Now. These three, in my eyes, are teens. Who are they're parents? Where are they? Never said. It's not unusual for kids in the pokemon world to be doing this type of stuff, but you still gotta wonder about it. So I propose this: The restaurant that is their gym was just a restaurant before. It became a gym after the three became gym leaders ( why three gym leaders? Because alder thought it would be funny. Plus he didn't have the heart to pit the boys against each other). Said restaurant was and still is owned by their parents, they've just taken a back seat due to the gym leader thing. Once the boys retire, the restaurant comes in full swing! And....yeah that's all I got.

oh, dear anon. this is a very very big question and i'm honored you think i am capable of providing an answer that does it justice!! i don't consider myself an oikawa expert by far, but i'll do my best because he's still very beloved to me, and i hope whatever i say helps!

(but also - maybe take what i say with a grain of salt LMAO)

anyways, to get the main point out of the way: i completely agree that oikawa isn't arrogant! i actually haven't seen any commentary about that myself (bless!!!), so i can't say for sure why some people might think that, but my guess is that they think his pridefulness = arrogance — they think that the confidence he has in himself and seijoh contributes nothing to their actual power and is utterly meaningless if they don't win, especially in the face of ushijima. which, like, come on. what kind of captain would he be if he wasn't confident in himself and his teammates? is he supposed to tell them that they're going to lose??? is he supposed to discourage their hard work and effort???

or maybe it's because oikawa acts like he's all that, but doesn't have anything to show for it. who does he think he is? what does he think his pride is worth? what right does he have to go around making grand declarations when he has nothing to his name?

(which isn't entirely true, either, but we'll get into that, promise.)

now, do i think that he can, occasionally, be flippant, shallow, and/or petty? yeah, sure. he's got one hell of a personality about it. even iwaizumi says as much. oikawa is great at being a little shit. it's one of my favorite things about him!

but is oikawa genuinely arrogant, or self-centered? well . . . i don't think so.

see, here's the thing about oikawa: he knows he's good, but he doesn't think he's good enough. i think it'd be easiest to really explain what that meant if we broke this down into two separate parts, so let's give it a go, shall we?

(buckle up, friends, because it's about to get LONG. also: TIMESKIP SPOILERS!! and there's a tldr at the start of the tags because. WOW.)

so, first things first: if people are calling oikawa arrogant, then i'm like 99% sure that they don't actually know what the word "arrogant" means.

"arrogant" is used to describe someone full of themselves. it's used to describe someone conceited and pompous. it's used to describe someone so assured of and invested in their self-importance that they don't care for other people, and if it seems like they do, then it's usually wildly off the mark and still serves to inflate their own egos.

oikawa has never once been like that. he's been pretty much the exact opposite, in fact.

and yeah, sure, by his third year of high school, he knows he's good at volleyball, and that's fine! it's perfectly all right to claim you're good at something if you have the skills/experience to back it up. confidence is healthy as long as it isn't in overabundance, and we actually see a lot of this throughout the series!

(not to mention that this was where ushijima fell short. he was overflowing with confidence. he did not believe, for even a single second, that hinata shouyou and his meager, scrappy little flock of crows could beat him.

but oikawa? he knew. he knew what it looked like to make something bloom.)

the key to oikawa's confidence that made him better was that he could pinpoint others' strengths and weaknesses just as well as he could with his own. and (bear with me, please, i might get kind of boring here bc it's nothing that hasn't been said in the manga before) i don't mean it in the way we see the coaches or more analytical players do, as observations to be taken advantage of by everyone else; i mean that in the sense of how vital it is to his position as a setter. that was always the biggest difference between oikawa and kageyama: no matter how much more raw talent kageyama had, no matter how much better oikawa believed him to be, kageyama, especially in the beginning, struggled to do what oikawa could with a team. kageyama struggled to bring out the best in each player. and it wasn't because he didn't know how -- oikawa freely admitted that kageyama had the skill for it, that kageyama, once he got his shit together, could win against him -- it was because kageyama didn't have that same confidence in himself.

(not until much later, anyways. but that's another story, for another time.)

so, oikawa's confident. he knows he's good. he can bring out the best in each player. he's got a killer serve (and a killer smile!), a mind for tactics that borders on machievallianism, and cherishes the trust he is given like it's something precious. his coaches let him lead without leaning on them. his team has the utmost respect and admiration for him. he has a reputation. from karasuno to shiratorizawa to the whole of miyagi -- there is not a single character who knows oikawa tooru and would believe that he is, in any way, bad at volleyball.

but it's not enough. despite all of that, oikawa still doesn't think he's good enough. and that, friends, brings us to the second point.

oikawa tooru is nothing if not passionate.

so were the others, of course. kageyama kept going after his grandfather's death. hinata kept going while being a nobody from nowhere with no one to back him up. atsumu kept going while osamu didn't. it's not even about just those who went pro -- kenma, kuroo, noya, and everyone else found things that they were passionate about and kept going with it. the entire story revolves around loving what you do and trying to keep that love alive, and, sometimes, that can be really, really difficult when it seems like it doesn't love you back.

oikawa was so insecure over kageyama to the point where he nearly decked the poor kid. oikawa got crushed by ushijima-- who kept telling him that his team was not good enough, that his choices were not good enough, that there was nothing good enough to be proud of -- for years in a row. oikawa was taught that there would always be someone better than him no matter how skilled he was, but if he let that stop him then he didn't fucking belong on the court in the first place.

oikawa tooru is intimately acquainted with not being good enough, but he keeps trying to be. he keeps going. he tries to keep the love alive even if he's not loved back. he pushes and practices and takes a plane far from home to become even better. even if he doesn't have the skill, even if he doesn't have the talent, even if he doesn't have the love -- he still has his pride. and what does that mean, in the end? how far does that take him?

in the end, oikawa tooru walks across a world stage and sees people who believed in him on the other side and calls it a family reunion. in the end, he gets to play the volleyball that reminds him of why he loves it and how it gives him so much love back. in the end, his pride is unyielding and unbreakable, a product of the forge. he molded it with his own two hands. he will not let it falter so easily.

arrogance would not have taken oikawa tooru this far. i hope this has proven that he is anything but.

remember: instinct is something you polish. talent is something you make bloom. and never, ever let anyone else tell you what your pride is worth.

Ok. So I've watched the entirety of the first season of Hazbin Hotel.

Messy and long review, proceed with caution.

It was really forgettable, if I'm being honest. Mostly because the pacing was just... bad. Not enough to not be able to follow the plot of the episode, but it's almost impressive how there's so much going on throughout the episode, but at the end you just feel like nothing substantial has happened.

I can't believe I'm going to say this as someone who adores musicals, but the songs here are a complete waste of time. Many of them begin too suddenly, it just feels awkward, not to mention a lot of them are here because they sound cool and that's it.

Now, I liked SOME of them, but they just wasted the precious time that could've been used for establishing character dynamics better and actually making them bond. The most memorable songs are wasted on less important subplots, which could've been shortened which actually would benefit the redemption/found family thing show is clearly going for.

Characters are so vaguely written, it almost felt like Viv was too scared to reveal stuff about them or the audience might get upset because it wasn't the same stuff they expected. It sometimes done to a such a weird degree it really clashes with the show's tone. It often felt like I was watching a children's cartoon that's allowed to say "fuck" sometimes.

Humor was just not funny. I guess it wasn't as bad as pilot, where every first line of Angel Dust was about sex, but still. 99% of the time there's no punchline, just swears. The only thing that made me laugh was a moment I was supposed to take seriously I think? It was when !spoilers! Sir Pentious was erased from hell by Adam. "Wow, that could've been ugly" just made me burst laughing for a moment, while characters on the screen cried. Don't worry, they were cheering for Charlie literally 3 seconds later, soo my conscience is clear here.

Villains were underwhelming, most of them were a set up for a second season and tbh the V's mostly just wasted time, same with Alastor who was a Gary Stue, until he wasn't. That leaves us with Adam, who just straight up broke the lore for a second. He's also such an asshole it makes you wonder why angels didn't just quietly kicked him out of the heaven.

Redemption. It wasn't handled well, mostly because writers were too busy showing literally ANYTHING but how our characters growed and progresses. It was bizarre watching Emily (or what's her name) side with Charlie because she said she saw how Angel Dust grew as a person? Expect he hasn't really changed? He behaved normally that night, that's literally it. He did stand up to Val, but like... If he didn't, would the heaven just be like "Lol look at that looser, couldn't tell his rapist to fuck off LMAO, Adam, send his ass to double hell"? That was fucking weird, you'd think they'd be more concerned about him killing people in the past, but whatever.

I guess I round this messy ramble with this: HH had potential, but the second you start to think about literally anything you have been shown your head begins to hurt. If you want to watch something and forget immediately, you can watch Hazbin. If you close your eyes on how the show handled a certain topics and just not think about it at all, it's just painfully average. The second you begin to question shit you end up going into an endless rabbit hole of "this could've been so much better" and "omfg what were writers thinking".

My undoubtedly professional rating of the show? 3/10. Can't wait to see the second season where it turns out Adam is alive and he became Charlie's step-dad, because Lucifer kept his promise.

This is a surprisingly loaded question because I have so many and some of them span for almost 20 years now.

Also, as usual, disclaimer, since I've seen all the ship wars and holywars, THESE ARE ALL PERSONAL OPINION. PERSONAL OPINION ONLY.

In the past:

My first ship when I was 12 was Pain/Konan, and I think that was the first smut I've ever read like period. I was a big cheerleader of Hinata and Naruto/Hinata because I liked that Hinata just minded her business and stayed in her lane while everyone else was going thru shit (Team 8 had the best work-life balance, I think, they just clocked in and clocked out, no shenanigans). Obviously, Temari/Shikamaru and I loved Neiji/Tenten. I think as a kid these were like really fun dynamics. Once the anime reached the Akatsuki I was all over the Akatsuki LMAO.

But now, as a grown adult, I am almost 99% just KKHD, and Akatsuki ships are like the default absolute truth to me, but recently, I've been obsessed with more Naruto Yuri.

Love Ino/Sakura for that double-income spy who owns a secret flower shop/doctor dynamic; it's just nice. Like I am a firm believer that they could have solved their differences by scissoring or something. Also like, I think their backstory is like an insane missed opportunity (but what's written cannot be unwritten, so whatever) because these pages made me feel like I was reading some kind of josei backstory. Like, go ahead and read these pretending this is not from Naruto, and tell me where do u think this could be from.

Like "pussy from a girl who treats you like a small stupid animal (good until psychic damage hits)"

Like, I would be like, this is either a shoujo manga, or the next page is older Sakura crying in the kitchen with a photo of Ino or something, and then by the end of the story, they, like fuck in the field or something while Sakura is like "I can't believe my toxic female friend from school has 4 fingers up my pussy!", but this could just be projecting, but I still like the ship. On a serious note, Sakura being a crybaby who was picked on would have been a fun opportunity to play with her character and create more empathy for Naruto within her, but her role was more like tying the two characters together, which worked well, but lots of people were salty, but it pushed people to support her character more so it evens out.

Tsunade/Shizune is like my next super fave, especially after rewatching the Tsunade arc. Tsunade's character is just so well done when it comes to how people cope with grief by doing destructive things, I loved it; Kishimoto is fantastic at mature story beats like this weaved between magical ninja fights. But yeah I loved their dynamic like Shizune is essentially her attendant/pet girl/assistant who is extremely loyal to her, but also nagging in a way and also Shizune is just very animated and kinda dorky while Tsunade is a calm mommy- sorry a mature rich woman of status who needs to be taken care of (nearly blacked out writing this). Their back and forth is just chef kiss, too. Honestly, I think that's my favourite Naruto arc; the first part of Naruto is great when it comes to mundane details that I now have more appreciation for.

And obviously still love Temari/Shikamaru! I loved that Shikamaru was always very tsundere and going on about how much he hates girls, but deep down is actually like, "Me when a bad bitch tells me to do anything." it's a satisfying way to play with his "character flaw". Seeing him go soft on Temari was like a mini character arc within his already happening character arc during Sasuke's pursuit, like we saw him grow up twice, great stuff!

The entire chapter 235 is just an amazing growth for Shikamaru in elevating the like "men/women" way of thinking to like "what makes a person who they are" way of thinking I really love that. The character is also a great reminder for those afraid of failing btw.

Kakashi/Iruka is my fave, 50% from a historical standpoint; the fact that you can find Kakairu fanfic on Geocities from 2001, and I have some doujins in my collection that are more than 20 years old now is fascinating to me. Love how incredibly loyal the Japanese fans are to Iruka; these guys were holding onto hope for so many years till the Pain arc and then, boom, Studio Pierrot's final Naruto arc!!! It's just incredible fandom history. I love that kinda stuff, love the ship itself too, it's very homey to me, some of the legendary fic they had was fantastic, like entire book's length, incredibly loyal fans.

Dream dragon AU by milder-manners (check it out, there is good world-building, beautiful concepts and just as nice strip pannels drawn by them) theory

Okay, I'm going to try my hand here because I'm not sure how much people will think it's spoilers if I ask but I still want to get it out. This is more a jumble of thoughts than a true theory about what will happen

First, there is the (to me at least*) open secret that Dream is the white dragon since the first pannel and the prophecy implies he will tranform himself sooner or later (but can he already ?)

Dragons hybrids can shapeshift (thanks to vow this is now a fact (aka, her being a human silhouette then having a large tail in Dream's flashbacks) + the author confirming that some magical beings can shapeshift)... but it also said it's something you have to train for, even if genetical grounds matter a lot. So is that why Dream try to steal the End info, to power up his own strength ? Is it for himself, as dragons- nature can makes them want to hoard knowledge (on that note, is that the same motivation than vow ?) or is it to be able to get revenge (especially since we now know for sure he comes from Deepheart's capital)

Which brings me to a second theory : Dream's presence in Deepheart (2 things)

1. Magic : Wardens seemed very careful about who could learn the death magic. It seems logical than only a very few can learn it, aka the Ancient Council. I doubt another hybrid than warden (especially a cow hybrid since they aren't supposed to have magic) would be invited to learn it. Was Dream ever interested in this if he likes hoarding knowledge ? Could he try to study it even if his magic doesn't resonate with it ? Or maybe it's just a coincidence and he never had an interest in this kind of stuff (but ok, I'll admit the dsmp impacted my theory with c!dream and all that. Idk how much it ties into pure warden lore. But the death link is there and I don't want to close the door on this too quickly)

2. Growing up - dream's parents and heritage.

I want to be clear I may be wrong and the author may want to take us in a very different direction, but the white horns, the prophecy, the fact Dream is fireproof and that usually when you follow a guy you know is the hero and makes himself pass for a prey hybrid... all those makes me 99% sure about what Dream is supposed to be.

Where it's interesting is that dragons hybrids are rare, and that it's genetics that make an hybrid. So Dream's parents should be dragons hybrids too : what were they doing in Deepheart and why didn't they survive ? It may be that they weren't lucky genetically and weren't fireproof, or died from buildings falls, but maybe they weren't even there, Dream already alone at that age. Tried to know a bit more about dragons habits with their kids but seems like I was too sneaky with my formulation :')

Anyway. If Dream had parents keeping him safe, what were they doing in Deepheart ? Were they interested in magic too or trying to live a normal life (possible, but uncertain seeing how they are characterized so far). If his parents weren't there : why is Dream there, has he been left there voluntarily ? Why Deepheart especially if the Empire seems interested in the End, he would have been more in his place there. Unless his parents didn't know he was a dragon hybrid (which, they could both had recessive dragon genes which could explain the whiteness).

It could be an easy plot point where the author just needed a town to put Dream in that the Empire would attack but I think they wouldn't mention sculk magic that way and the importance of Deepheart if there wasn't more to find.

like when he says that he obv more means it as a complement like look i picked one thats nearby for u and not some random far away one bc ur special <3 but to kuai it would come across as confirmation that he's not the favourite child... and yuudias Is therefore its time to merge some galaxies so he can become the favourite bc that stupid creator forgot to give him any semblance of emotional intelligence baybeeeeee

also makes me explode and implode simultaneously to think that even his koregashi pronoun is the 'flawed' version of soregashi since that's like. an existing pronoun lol. lmao even

Thought ramble about both canon and AU:

It's really hard to feel anything for Father as an antagonist and villain, he always felt more like an inanimate object and plot tool (technically all characters are plot tools for the author to utilize as they wish or need, they serve a purpose they're not human people who are alive but that's not the point here, 99% of the characters hold up the illusion of being people because it's part of their job to emulate and invoke humanity and... it's just fucking lacking in Father, imo) who has no meaningful dynamic, bond, link, anything with any other character, or even the world at all. Very insular, isolated, inhuman. And maybe that's the point! The dwarf in the flask was never human, and one of the points of the story is how being human is an amazing thing actually, and the ones who abandon their humanity and their bonds to pursue stuff like immortality or god are missing the point entirely. So I guess it's a function not a bug that Father is Like That™.

Doesn't mean I have to like that.

Especially when he is used as the convenient culprit for all the atrocities the Amestrian government had committed against... everyone, really, but especially Ishvalans, by both canon and the fandom. It doesn't, shouldn't, mean that every soldier who took part in the genocide should not be blamed because Father was the root cause of it all. So what if he was? It still doesn't mean the soldiers were innocent. Father can still be the root cause of things and the soldiers can still be guilty of genocide. Both things can be true at the same time. Father makes a convenient scapegoat to heap the blame onto so that more likeable and popular characters who actively murdered Ishvalans can be washed free of the sin. (There's something about how the scapegoats are by principle dehumanized and Father is also Inhuman™ and it's interesting but that's neither here nor there)

Anyways, it's just that... whenever I try to think about Father, mostly for AU purposes like “how can I make this character contribute to what I feel is one of the main Points of the AU I'm making?” kinda deal, my brain just displays an error popup. Due to the way he lacks everything, like how does he feel about what he did to all those people? Nothing! He feels nothing! How about the “children” he made? Also nothing! There's just... nothing I can extract for extra AU juice. He's just a plot point to me, a villain because the narrative needed a villain, he doesn't do anything else outside of this role. Again, probably by design, but doesn't mean I have to like it.

That's why he's just... not gonna be much of a prominent figure in Sunburst Sandstorm.

I mean, he still exists and does the stuff he does in canon but he's not important to the POV characters. Scar doesn't care, Petunia doesn't, the rest of the Ishvalans are too busy to care, overall he's just not very present. Also the Ishvalans are gunning for Independence. So, more to do with the human side of stuff like the government and the Amestrian public and everything.

At first I tried for a fatherhood parallel thing between him, Bradley, Scar (who gained a gaggle of kids and now must Parent them), and Miles (because my OC Petunia is his daughter) but as I said before Father has nothing I can extract from him and Scar doesn't even interact with him, so... bye-bye, that idea. Maybe if or when I finally figure that shit out I'll find a way but, not in the foreseeable future, lmao.

Also, the version of Scar I'll be having in this AU is the depiction of Scar from the fic “even the nameless” by Nonymos:

quick vent because even though i already journalled about it i'm still mad

so i have this friend. we used to be really close and then after covid we were both at uni in different cities but we stayed in touch. she dropped out of uni in the first couple weeks, moved back home and is trying to start a small business as an artist, which i massively respect but it does make her super busy. so every time i'm back home for the holidays i text her like "hey are you free, it would be great to hang out" and she usually either says she's too busy and she can't or that she'll check her calendar and get back to me (and then doesn't). and that would be fine but i kept seeing on her social media that she was finding time to hang out with other people

after about a year of this i told another friend about it (let's call her B) and B was like "oh, i haven't seen her in a while either, i'll ask if she wants to hang out". and we found out that A had blocked B on everything and when she finally got a message through A told her that she was ending the friendship (that they've had since they were 3) because B hadn't been there enough for her (mind you this was the year B had had a complete mental breakdown) and she never wanted to see her again (this part isn't directly relevant to the story but think of it as a character reference)

Started playing Cupid Parasite yesterday, and as per my nature I'm playing by following both a guide and the most common recommended route order, so it's gonna be like. A LONG while until I fully get the answers to absolutely all the mysteries of the game, but!

Honestly she may very well turn out to have just been playing 4d chess using Kyu-chan the entire time, it'd suck tho because I LOVE MY GEEKY AUNT/MOTHER FIGURE/BGF (BEST GODDESS FRIEND)

Consequently, Mars is either just an asshole of an old fart for no reason or Minerva is just. Genuinely bad news and he was actually the good one all along. UNLIKELY, but always possible. Also did he fucking kidnap Kyu-chan??? What's her relationship with her mom even like??

The game gets 10/10 for style, like 4/10 for being practical and easy to see. Fr good god I have to zoom enhance AND squint from like one cm away from the screen to see some of the stuff. Same goes for the sound design, tbh- mixing is a mess and I'm constantly fiddling with the settings, but by god(s) does everything sound GREAT! Also the car honk absolutely sends me every time I hear it, and that's. A lot fjxjksbwjz

It's so much fun!!! Truly living up to its name as a romcom so far but I'm not an idiot and I can sense the angst coming from a mile away lmao

their moms totally grew up together, too. hana and...akira's mom omg i've never written about her what the hell is a good name—anyway those two were as thick as thieves, so naturally when they happened to get pregnant around the same time, they were like "our boys are gonna be bffs" and THEY WERE

i mean, let's face it, even if their moms never met inaba is such a small town they would've stumbled across each other anyway but this is so much cuter okay

akira's mom absolutely threatened ryuji's dad with violence when she found out about him abusing the sakamotos

i like to think that both akira & ryuji were kind of shy, polite boys growing up, but when ryuji's dad left them behind (probably around 7 or 8?) suddenly akira was suspiciously more protective of ryuji

i mean, this kid managed to perfect his wolf stare within a few months. i hc kid!ryuji as soft, probably cries a lot...so when bullies come along and are unlucky enough to stumble across akira too (which is a given, they're attached at the hip), akira sends them running

he lets ryuji pretend that his "big, strong muscles" scare them off

this ends up becoming ryuji's motivation to get stronger, so he can protect akira the same way

people are now terrified of messing with one part of the duo. bullying decreases by 99% in inaba because these two feral children will not let ANYONE bully someone under their watch

after school, when ryuji & akira aren't busy helping out their moms or generally being angels, they like hanging out at junes (p5 definitely takes place after p4, so junes has always been a staple growing up) or going to get steak skewers

akira buys. it's like the 10 year old version of a fancy date. 600 yen is a lot okay—

study dates as they get into middle school are a MUST. ryuji's always been as dumb as rocks. akira is the dumbest smart person you will ever meet. study dates consist of 50% studying, 50% trying to figure out how to parachute off the second story with a trash bag.

pegoryu vibes start happening as study dates become more frequent. ryuji starts noticing how soft akira's hair and hands are as they become more comfortable with physical affection. akira has always known that ryuji shines like the sun, but never that he was so handsome

idk why shido is in inaba. maybe he's trying to secure support from EVERYONE, so he lowers himself to the peasantry and decides to take his campaign to inaba a year early

but when the case happens & he's sent on probation, ryuji absolutely follows him to the city. it breaks his heart to leave hana behind (she's supportive of it, she knows those boys are gay for each other (platonically OR romantically, she doesn't care)) but he knows akira won't last a day

since no kamoshida means no broken leg, he's got that track scholarship going for him, but it's a lot of training on his own (and with akira, pegoryu as gym bros will always make me soft) since kamoshida still would've screwed up the track team

still, when he and akira run late to school because of the rain and spotting their soon-to-be-classmate (aka ann) get in the car of some sleazy asshole, there's absolutely no reason why ryuji wouldn't be golden-hearted and loyal as always

Sunny definitely needs an extrovert in his life (not like 99% of his friends already are) because he can get pretty awkward with another introvert if the other isn't as initiative, so having you by his side and kinda just leading him on would be really nice and helpful!
