this is kind of a funny tidbit.

for context, I have started taking classes to get a recording engineering associates degree. we use pro tools, because it is apparently the industry standard. (bad choice on the part of industry. but it makes sense because capitalism does not make good decisions! but I digress.)

anyway, there's a virtual instrument called Xpand!2 that has a wide variety of MIDI sounds, and I was looking high&low in all the string, guitar, etc. sections trying to find a banjo. no dice, so I ended up working without it for several days. can you guess where I finally found the banjo, just clicking around today?

Watching Phineas and Ferb and how have I never noticed how sweet Jeremy is as a boyfriend?!!!! Like he's actually so kind and caring and he genuinely likes Candace for who she is with all her big emotions and her need to bust her brothers. This is such a sweet and healthy relationship and I love it so much!!!

Hey, I did previously mention an AU where Viktor gets taken in by Benzo and acts as a big brother to Ekko and later becomes one of the Firelights did I? He doesn't go to the academy either and meets Jayce under different circumstances too (The bridge battle specifically and yeah that'll be rewritten somewhat in a way that Jayce tries to participate or oversees things at first before being forced to intervene himself as he's part of the council by this point). I guess he also awakens as a mage this time without Hexcore interference too? I haven't fully figured it out yet admittedly. ^^;

Doing a lot of research about the ARA during the Great Famine along with other Russian and American relations pre-cold war for a potential fic and it's like an oceans worth of history and information is pouring forth. Things that were simply forgotten about in the post-WWII era. You'd never know if you didn't search for it. Also, the similarities between the two nations during the 1860s were just jarring. Here, you had two nations beholden to outdated systems that profited from the subjugation of fellow men in the form of serfdom and slavery. And then comes two leaders from those respective nations, both regarded as controversial liberators during their time. Alexander II issued the Emancipation Manifesto, which saw to the emancipation of serfs, the same year that the American Civil War began, and two years later, Abraham Lincoln would issue the Emancipation Proclamation. It is said that Abraham Lincoln and American abolitionists were inspired by the Emancipation of the Serfs in Russia. The president and the Tsar also ended up forming a friendly relationship in which they often corresponded with each other:

And of course, one can not fail to mention Russia sending warships to the New York and San Francisco to deter any potential interference in favor of the Confederates by Britian and France. One can argue that Russia did it for geopolitical reasons, and that would be a fair assessment. Yet Russia didn't have to do anything at all, being on the other side of the world, far removed from an upstart nation in the grips of its first civil war, of which the consequences would have little to no immediate impact on Russia. The pre-cold war era is truly one of the most overlooked eras in the rusame relationship, but I think it showcases quite perfectly how they're sort of mirrors of each other. So extreme in their differences that they end up becoming eerily similar in the strangest and oftentimes most painful ways. So much commonality to be found in terms of nature and character (rather than mere happenstance of sharing a border, or language or blood) that it is heartbreaking when all that built up rapport and moments of genuine compassion swirl down the drain after 1917 because everything that could have possibly gone wrong did.
