let’s say you had a fight with a friend and you ramble on about how it’s not your fault

and he would agree everything you say like a good puppy

“you’re right. i do have you. i should egg her house!” you voice out as you sat up straight with sparkles in your eyes

“yeah! you shou-- wait, what?” his eyes widen with panic, regretting and thinking of words to tell you not to do that without hurting your feelings

but you laugh at his stricken reaction instead and assured cheng xiaoshi that you were just joking

his sighs in relief, not bothering to hide it

very good listener but not much of a talker

you can literally vent anything to him and he will listen to you word after word and actually pay attention

though the way he admire stare at you makes you second guessed that he wasn’t listening which puts your mind off of the annoying thing that you were talking to him

“and then, she had the audacity to say... lu guang?” you were in the midst of telling your troubles but you had stop yourself when you realize lu guang hadn’t said a word and you thought that he was spacing out

“yes?” his soft, pretty voice never makes you not swoon at him even at how simple that one word was

it makes you realize how in love you are with the white haired male in front of you

“w-were you listening to me?” you stuttered with an evident blush on your cheeks

“of course, my love. i’m quite intrigued with your story before you had to interrupt yourself,” he answers calmly, in contrast with his mind going wild with how adorable you look when you’re flustered

knows how to cheer you up

she’ll first give you advice and reassurance

afterwards, she’ll buy you your favorite drink and spend quality time with you

since she cares too much, she won’t leave your side

“it’s okay, i’m here,�� she says. “how about i buy you boba tea? how does that sound?”

once she gets your order, she’ll spend the whole day with you playing video games, braiding your hair, whatever to make you not think of your troubles

if you still want to talk about what happened, she’s all ears

if you want peace and quiet, she’ll first ask if it’s okay for her to stay with you

and if you want her presence but still peace and quiet, she’ll stay silent

All you have to do to make me fall in love with a piece of media is have a trio that consists of an individual with godly looks and many secrets, an emotionally avoidant idiot who hides their deep love for others behind lighthearted words, and a short person who is somehow relegated to the other two's support by the fandom/author despite being an integral part of the trio

I find it curious Link Click uses the twins flashback to shove on our faces right away the parallels between Cheng Xiaoshi and Li Tianchen. Both combative boys, protective of their family, somewhat naive in different ways and quite enamoured with looking cool. So yeah, there's parallels, but to be fair the writing is good enough that you can find parallels with the main duo regarding any of the new s2 characters. And I think Link Click cleverly does that so we only realize closer to the finale what is, in my opinion, the strongest parallel: Cheng Xiaoshi and Li Tianxi.

They are both "the babies" of the group. Whereas Cheng Xiaoshi has two endlessly nagging friends who often scold him and push him to do better, Li Tianxi lost both her mother and a brother capable of caring for her, thus her needs go ignored as she grows up with Qian Jin. Qiao Ling and Lu Guang work together with CXS to earn a living/pay off his debt, LTX is used by her family to carry out the shady stuff they don't really need to do (both CXS and LTX get in extremely emotional and vulnerable situations because of it).

Cheng Xiaoshi eventually grows and understands his powers as a duty, and even though LG and QL still try to shield him from the worst*, they look proud whenever he shows what he's capable of (QL even calls him cool!). LTX's one "act of rebellion" is framed as a betrayal and she's straight up murdered. In the confrontation, she even prefers hiding behind CXS, whom she met hours beforehand, exactly bc she knows what her family is capable of.

Both are sensitive people, burdened by well-meaning actions with over-the-top consequences (it hurts to try and explain this one). In (this specific trauma for) CXS case, he was already an adult and in s2 spends the entire time reevaluating and adapting; in LTX's, she was a child and hardly knew how to deal with this guilt and /waves hands/ everything after

I really like this parallel of their running and emotional actions setting off this part of the plot. They cross paths, but the people they help do not have their fate changed significantly by this. But those moments where they FEEL Emma (+Lu Guang in this specific parallel) and Chen Bin were enough to carry LTX and CXS both into their roles in the story.

LTX finally "goes back" to the home she idealized, CXS is waiting at home for his parents. They cross paths, both get shot in that tunnel, but just as quickly go down opposite directions. LTX out of care for her (criminal) brother, parts with him; while CXS waits, he also built a new home for himself with new people he can call family. There's hope for him yet.

*tbh they're a biiiit controlling, but I can see that habit developing through the years, not because they don't mean well

The trio being presented to us as a trio is so strange to me. Like yeah we get why cxs and lg are so close and also the strong bond between cxs and ql, but ql and lg??? They never really talk unless it's about cxs or logistics abt business/whatever situation we find them in. The only reason we know that they're more than just friendly with each other is because they do stuff together in the shorts, too, but it's pretty obvious that cxs is the driving force behind a lot of it. It doesn't feel like a trio so much as 2 close relationships that are bound together by 1 person.

how did writing "ooh captain xiao li reacts to shiguangqiao family dynamics" turns into writing "captain xiao li pov of s1 and s2, also shiguangqiao are a trouble magnet but theyre his kids now"

it was actually going according to plan until i realize how quick shiguangqiao rely on him. like they saw him twice, one to make sure doudou's dad wasnt scammed where they see he's very dedicated to help and the second whilst doudou is reuniting with his family where he shows that he's willing to trust them and their unknown methods as long as it helps the victim.

then boom, their friend is missing? immediately call captain xiao li. they captured a murderer? call captain xiao li. you're falsely arrested but cant explain it? demand to talk to captain xiao li. i assume qiao ling also called captain xiao li when an attempt murder just happens and they need someone they trust to hide lu guang.

it doesnt help that hes so open to trusting them and their work. as well as being somewhat protective over them. leaving them in the safety of the hospital room while he search for chen bin, briefing cxs on how to interrogate someone, very open to their theories on how lg got out of the hospital, very open to their input and opinion in general, while also being hesitant to sent out ql and cxs to the hostage exchange without backup.

and he also personally drive cxs and lg back from the hospital?? he couldve ordered any officer to do so?? he's not just a cop he's a captain isn't he? he's supossed to be busy isn't he and yet when shiguangqiao reach out he always tries his best to help instead of idk sending them to another officer??

I guess I will always be a sucker for insanely codependent trios that consist of a dark haired guy who hides all his trauma and pain behind a smile that may or may not be false, a quiet guy with mysteries abounding in his past, and a gal who looks like she'll be discarded by the narrative but turns out to be foundational for the stories of the plot and the other two characters. Bonus if they remain platonic through the entire story
