the movie is about purity. You can’t write the “dreaming of true love” out and it still be Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. Because then there’s no temptation to contrast her purity with. There’s no example to follow—“this is what pure love looks like.” It’s a completely different movie. Don’t call it Snow White. The “Snow White” name of the main character has a double-meaning—shes not just fair-skinned, she’s completely and totally pure, like newly fallen snow, through and through. It’s not Snow White if it’s not about purity and innocence.

I have mixed feelings about Disney’s “Snow White” remake. I do like the idea of Snow White becoming a leader, but…

A) Disney’s done that already with “Mirror Mirror” and “Once Upon a Time”.

B) I don’t like that she has to reject true love to do that . Being a leader and being in love don’t have to be exclusive things. “Princess Diaries 2” and the 2019 Princess Jasmine proved that.

I kinda hope these two characters will have the same vibe. Lucy Gray is a performer with a voice who was forced to fight and ran to be free from Snow. This Snow White is said be dreaming of being a leader and will battle the Queen to be free from her, which I’m really excited for.

i dislike the girlboss-ification of Snow White as much as the next person but omg leave Rachel Zegler ALONE!!!!!!! ppl act like thinking Snow White was “boring and/or anti-feminist” was an unpopular opinion—literally EVERYONE and their mom HATED on Snow White but the MINUTE Rachel Zegler says the SAME THING everyone comes for her????? smells like misogyny. (not even mentioning the fact that maybe PR has something to do with what she’s saying??)

(also, people hating on Rachel Zegler for THE COLOR OF HER SKIN?????? blah blah blah “it’s snow WHITE!!! she has skin as white as SNOW!!”— i think we as a society can move on from the idea that a character’s defining characteristic is the color of her SKIN. it’s just as easy AND ACCURATE to interpret the “Snow White” thing as her being pure of heart/pure as SNOW in order to remove her skin color from being such an important part of her character. don’t act like everyone saying that Rachel Zegler can’t play Snow White because she’s “too tan” isn’t racist/colorist)

more about Snow White as a character: i think she is a wonderful character and not at all “anti-feminist” or boring!!! she’s just a girl!!! while her age isn’t mentioned in the movie, she’s referred to as “little princess” which obviously indicates that she’s pretty young—she’s a young girl who’s been abused for most of her life yet still manages to be kind and empathetic!!! sure, her primary dream is to meet her true love, but MOST YOUNG PEOPLE ALSO WANT THIS!!! there’s nothing wrong with wanting love or with being sweet and kind!! Snow White first and foremost survived abuse and several near-death experiences (INCLUDING TWO ASSASSINATIONS) and managed to come out kind-hearted! she’s silly and kind and a little naive but also optimistic and a romantic!!!!! leave her alone!!!!

and even saying that, sure she’s from 1937 and very stereotypical—so there’s nothing wrong with adding aspects to her character that make her more modern/three-dimensional! it’s ok guys, you can admit that the original Snow White is not necessarily the best representation of women while also acknowledging how game-changing her movie was AND how Snow White is a wonderful character!!

characters can be sweet, kind and gentle but still strong and independent!! they aren’t mutually exclusive!!

as one of the first feature length animated films, of course Snow White isn’t going to have a lot of dimension (NONE of the characters do), and that’s what remakes are for!! stop coming for Rachel Zegler for saying things that aren’t at all wrong. like omg, you guys are acting like she hates all women or something. i would love it if she became a leader and took control of her kingdom!! I would love it if she took more action against the evil queen!! that DOESN’T MEAN Snow White is no longer kind and gentle and pure. Rachel Zegler is NOT demonizing Snow White or changing her character!!! is it so hard to believe that a girl who is kind and gentle and a romantic ALSO wants to be a leader????

also, I think her and the prince are cute!!!! yes he is VERY one-dimensional, so i would love it if the live action Snow White expanded on the prince’s character like the live action “The Little Mermaid” did!! his age is NOT mentioned in the film, there’s no reason to claim that their relationship is predatory. he searched for MONTHS for her, and once he found her “dead” he cried and kissed her goodbye (which is how I personally interpret it!!!)

the kiss can just as easily be changed to a kiss on the cheek/forehead, or removed overall, and the story will still stay the same!! the prince’s love for Snow White is what saved her, and that can be conveyed in a way other than a kiss. for all intents and purposes, they are just two kids in love!!

the prince was not the one who saved her from her evil stepmother—snow white was the one who ran away and made a life for herself, the prince just woke her up and the VERY END of the movie, stop ignoring all of snow’s actions throughout the film for the one (1) thing the prince did at the end.

tldr; Snow White is dated but not necessarily anti-feminist, and Rachel Zegler is justified in how she talks about Snow White and doesn’t deserve all the hate she’s getting.

Okay, I love that this generation is so dedicated to raising strong independent women and highlighting the strength of womanhood.

Although you can't really deny that every little girl has at least once wanted to be a princess and dreamed about finding true love. I just want everyone to know that it's completely normal to want to find love with a good man. Love is the most wonderful thing in the world ❤️

Being soft and gentle does not make you any less strong and independent. I hope you see that there is strength in your femininity. To all the princesses at heart out there, just keep on dreaming ✨️

You know that live action snow white reboot with the actress that hates Snow White? I had a dream that you go to watch the movie and it is revealed that that actress is not playing Snow White as we had been led to believe, but is playing the evil stepmother instead. Thus making all the weird interviews make sense.

She's not looking for love? Check.

She's a leader? Literally the evil queen.

Hates Snow White with a passion and thinks she is a dumb love sick child? Check.

Is, for a long while, the fairest of them all? Check.

I do think, while I'm on the subject of Snow White and that deleted scene with the imprisoned Prince, that if I could talk to the people making a live-action Snow White, I'd say, "put that back in there."

You know. In addition to keeping the Prince in the movie in the first place.

Because I think having Snow White's faith that he'll come for her magnified by how much he's willing to go through to find her can only be a good thing. Besides, "modern" audiences, already wanting more human interactions and less animal-antics scenes, would probably do that frustrating nitpicking thing and go "hey why did it take him so long to find her anyway?" If he's captured or delayed in coming by the Queen, so much the better.

But I wouldn't have the Dwarfs set him free. Because I think the Dwarfs need to never come in contact with this Prince they've been hearing so much about--until the moment he comes, and proves Snow White right. That moment was impactful in the original, and it should stay the way it is.

So instead I'd actually bring back the Huntsman. His whole thing as a minor character is that he obeys the Queen, then can't go through with it, but instead of standing up to her, he tries to trick her. Kind of cowardly. But maybe if he lets the Prince go free and makes a more direct stand against her, that can wrap up his small character arc and kill two birds with one stone at the same time.

An introduction note: I was originally going to reblog one of these posts on Tumblr that praised the upcoming release of the Bentkey Snow-White's movie, and I was hoping the original poster was actually someone who wasn't informed of Bentkey's political propaganda... But then I checked their blog and I realized they were a very convinced "Bible-loving" (yeah as if) homophobic and anti-abortion activist who would block anyone not sharing their views.

So as to not promote or give attention to their post which made it seem as if everything was okay, I will post my original reply underneath so that it won't go to waste:

Yeah! Try this movie by a new company whose introduction video carefully explains how they are convinced the queer community is a cult that is trying to brainwash children with the help of Disney!

I am certain supporting the spite-production of a platform who proudly and openly says that abortion is evil is the best way to show respect to the fairytale!

And please do not look at Bentkey's introduction video on Youtube where they openly say that claiming the USA used to rely on slavery is an anti-American call for racial war...

If you didn't know about it, OP, Bentkey and the DailyWire company behind these two productions are paranoid conpiracy-theorist organizations on the extreme-right political spectrum - and who very openly advertise their product as political pieces that will keep your children straight and your girls abortionless and your Black people docile. Just look at the promotional videos on their Youtube channel, they do not hide it.

If you knew about this and still decided to advertise them because either A) you share their view or B) you think having a more "faithful" depiction of a 19th century German fairytale is more important than not supporting people obviously even worse than Disney ; then fuck you.

And for those who read it, I'll repeat it again : with these two movies it seems we have two poisons, one of bad taste and unthought moves, the other of wicked intentions hidden under a pretty appearance (much like the poisoned apple itself), and I'll chose NONE because there's already almost a whole century of Snow-White adaptations and we already had all the good and the bad we need, I don't need anymore, especially if it is to serve some venomous socio-political battle between fools who don't get their own work and fanatics who actually try to harm others.
