outfit ramblings:

first of all that is a Terrible rendition of what Home looks like in my head. i just needed to fill empty space </3

the staff was the toughest part honestly. bc it Had to be paintbrush-themed, but then halfway through scribbling i was like "oh shit. there are only so many ways to draw a paintbrush-wizard-staff and Weevmo already hit it out of the park." so if you're seeing similarities! you're right! i tried to make it as different as i could! there is Inspiration from their marvelous design, however accidental or subconscious! Apologies!

he gets a pointed hood instead of a hat because a) it looks great on him! and b) it has less of a chance of messing up his hair! also c) it helps muddle the difference between Wizard and Warlock. typically hoods have evil/duplicitous connotation - blur the lines! i want his long gloves and forearm wraps to have the same vibe. his neckerchief is a big help in hiding Home's seal!

his layered (loosely apple-themed) capelet (which the hood is attached to) has a nice high collar & hides the details of his loose shirt - eye embroidery! and some flowers on the shoulders but yk, mostly eyes. on one side of the shirt buttons has open eyes, the other side they're closed! there's also one big eye on his back!

his belt buckle is two halves of an apple! he wears tall thigh-high boots w/ low heels to feel Taller! he has a book-holster hooked to the back of his belt, which holds his grimoire! and he has a lil thigh-bag that has been magicked to be Bottomless and warps size! he can fit pretty much anything in there! canvases! paint! apples!

his half-skirt thing (idk what the word for it is!) is really plush, like a quilt - his capelet is the same fabric. soft, cozy. sometimes he'll use the skirt thing as a blanket in a pinch, or as a picnic placemat!

is his outfit a little Complicated? is it annoying to replicate? yes and yes. but im a maximalist at heart and Nothing But The Best for the blorbo <3 layers my beloved <3

I love how ominous such basic names like "The Organization" or "The Institute" or "The Initiative" or "The Facility" or etc. are when placed in like a shady sci-fi context, like there's no reason for them to sound that suspicious, but without elaboration, it's like here is a place where they are doing things™ and I am like ooohh, because the blank state, the refusal to give you any more detail makes you think they're hiding something on purpose and leaves the darkest corner of the imagination left to fill in the rest.

young wild and free!!! lets do some core four fluff that's a little bit about themes of growing up but mostly just about being silly and loving each other.

all of core four are pretty touch-starved i would imagine - kon and bart for obvious reasons (test tube, vr, etc), tim and cassie bc they were used to loving parents and now. well. oops. but so they're prone to just kind of existing in piles when they're all together just to hang out. i also don't think they drink often because neither kon nor bart can really get drunk and it's not that fun for them, but now and then it happens. so.

cassie gets some fancy themysciran wine as a present from donna for her 21st and they all hang out at the farm. bart tries to persuade kon to make crop circles with him. kon bonks him on the head and says they are not doing that to ma's crops. cassie laughs at them both and offers them some wine. bart tries a sip and says it tastes like betrayal and garbage, kon tries a sip and says ummm... well it would probably make for some real good cookin'!, and tim rolls his eyes and says he knows how to appreciate a red wine, at least, so looks like it's just him and cassie splitting it.

and then the scene cuts to: they've got a movie on, cassie is wine-tipsy and giggling at her phone while she texts cissie really bad pickup lines with kon's encouragement, kon and bart are sharing a bowl of popcorn (bart is fussing because kon's ttking half of the popcorn to stay stuck to the bowl for himself, despite bart finishing the other half in about 3 seconds flat), and tim...

tim is wine-drunk and on the verge of tears because krypto has chosen to snuggle up against his side. he's been chosen. by the pupy dog. he's sitting there with huge shiny wet eyes. he has not cried in at least 8 months. there's white dog hair all over his black pants. he's been chosen. by the puppy dog.

anyways bart gets a photo of his face and it becomes a meme in the young justice group chat. get dunked on idiot

The Wash-Balls of Neroly

Version 3.1

So anyway, where were we?

Previously on "Trifles and Their Terrible Tribulations": The soap had jellied at an early stage, but adding almond meal led to miracles.

Following all that, I was going to be so careful with the next batch. Which is why, naturally, I started it soaking back on November 29th and... promptly didn't stir or even check on it until tonight, almost an entire month later.

This is, in fact, a really good consistency to end up with! No jelly in sight, and it somehow is the right consistency to tip into the mortar for the next step: a shittload of scents.

These get folded in gently (though not with that terminology), and the mix is now back to a bit of a thick, soupy consistency.

The directions at this point say to beat "a long time to mix it well", and this has caused me Sadness in the past when even beating for a significant period of time did not yield anything like a stiff "paste" that could be rolled into balls, requiring that I find solace in salt as an additive to get the soap to calm tf down.

Almond meal was the version 3.0 revelation (due to it being a Secret Additive, related to the preparation of "dried" labdanum).

And tonight... I shall add almond flour.

Kaidan: WILL YOU JUST FUCKING DROP IT?! Always with the fucking poking and prodding into me! I don’t follow you around every morning asking what’s going through your head!

Taliesin: Kaidan!! He’s just trying to help! We’re worried about you! This is the third night you’ve woken up screaming! We’re not even sharing a bed anymore because of it! What is going on!?

Kaidan: It’s nothing either of you need to concern yourselves with and I’m fucking sick of you both not listening to me!

Vivienne: k-Kaidan please calm down, please- you’re waking up screaming, you’re drinking from morning until you pass out- *touches his shoulder*

Kaidan: *spins around and grabs his wrist* IVE GOT ENOUGH BLOOD ON MY HANDS! DONT MAKE ME WEAR YOUR-

*CRASH!!!*

Taliesin: KAIDAN!

Kaidan: *coughs and lifts his head to find himself pinned to the remnants of a shelf as a familiar gold and blue mer with sharp features and blue flames to frame them, holds him there with the pole of his spear* v-vivec- I-

Vivec: Your past does not define you. I can forgive your outbursts for they come from fear and a grief many could not live with… but I will not tolerate you putting your hands on my child as you openly threaten him. *presses the spear against his neck threatening to crush his wind pipe* This is your only. Warning. *disappears and is suddenly replaced with a very dazed vivienne*

Vivienne: *tears streaming down his face, and wrist already bruising* k-Kaidan… *falls back into taliesins arms as he passes out*

Taliesin: Vivi… *lifts him up before looking at Kaidan with heartache in his eyes* …

Kaidan: *sitting there mortified at himself and at Vivec’s words* I… I have to g- *freezes as a lance slams into the wall behind him, and the heavy foot falls of nerevar and ryn fill the room*

Nerevar: You don’t get to run away from this, boy, either you tell us what’s going on or we’ll find out ourselves. *rips his lance from the wall* Start. Talking.
