love how lizzie the musical is like: here's a devastating song about familial abuse. here's some lesbian yearning. here's a really catchy song about household poisons. here's lesbian seduction part 1, ft. pears. oh no, these pigeons are dead. AXE FALL RIVER RUNS RED. here's an understandable series of questions when you realise mr borden and his wife have been murdered. time for lesbian seduction part 2, ft. an attempt to suborn perjury. let's have a really soothing lullaby about watchmen waiting for the morning. 13 days in court, starring: a sister who remembers neither the question nor the answer but was definitely in fairhaven in any case; a maid who frankly gives some pretty worrying testimony; your ex(?) neighbour(?) undefined situationship person who won't lie about having seen you burn that dress. we'll somehow work 'yankee clytemnestra' in there and it will be perfect. lizzie is found NOT GUILTY.

every song is top-tier. i've only described like 60% of them. ALSO, it's an all-female cast!

my hot take on Lizzie: the Musical is that the love story becomes infinitely more compelling the more actors/the production lean into Alice's flaws and selfishness rather than presenting her as some fragile little flower who's the voice of reason (tag novel below)

A Gay Girl's Guide to Korean Musicals (with English subtitles!)

People often associate musicals with male gayness (both onstage and off) but there's stuff out there for female-oriented queers too! It's just harder to find, which is why I put this video together despite not knowing Korean.

This list isn't comprehensive and I deliberately chose musicals with either queer female characters or gender-free casting (i.e. female actors playing male roles), except for Bernarda Alba, which is special as it’s by far the largest-scale all-female production with 10 characters. Obviously there are many Korean musicals out there which don't meet these criteria and are still of interest to the queers, but I wanted to highlight these in particular as they are, apart from Rebecca, not as well-known. I highly recommend checking out @koreanmusicals for more information on Korean musicals generally!

Note: Again, I don’t understand Korean and relied heavily on machine translation and the original lyrics for licenced productions, so any errors in the subtitles or explanations are mine. Corrections are very welcome!
