It's done!!

Dracula the Musical 2014 & 2020 complete Korean -> English translations! This has been several years in the making, I'd start working on them then stop for a year or two then start again, when the current 10th anniversary run was announced I figured what better time to finally finish these and get them posted ♪(´▽｀)

There's not much different between the years, mostly the stories and lines of the minor characters are changed around a bit, with the most notable differences in the very end, as well as a few additional verses in some songs like Nosferatu and the Finale. If you're unsure which one to read I'd suggest the 2020 version because it's the one with the additions.

As with my Xcalibur scripts, these were translated using online translators so there's almost definitely some mistakes or inaccuracies, but I did my best to get the full meaning across. If you notice any mistakes or have any suggestions please let me know! There are many songs that have been translated by others, these are noted before the relevant song.

A Gay Girl's Guide to Korean Musicals (with English subtitles!)

People often associate musicals with male gayness (both onstage and off) but there's stuff out there for female-oriented queers too! It's just harder to find, which is why I put this video together despite not knowing Korean.

This list isn't comprehensive and I deliberately chose musicals with either queer female characters or gender-free casting (i.e. female actors playing male roles), except for Bernarda Alba, which is special as it’s by far the largest-scale all-female production with 10 characters. Obviously there are many Korean musicals out there which don't meet these criteria and are still of interest to the queers, but I wanted to highlight these in particular as they are, apart from Rebecca, not as well-known. I highly recommend checking out @koreanmusicals for more information on Korean musicals generally!

Note: Again, I don’t understand Korean and relied heavily on machine translation and the original lyrics for licenced productions, so any errors in the subtitles or explanations are mine. Corrections are very welcome!

I watched a Korean musical called Life is Beautiful at the movie theater today. It was a last-minute find and I went in without knowing anything about the plot…. Fuck. I cried so hard 😭 Literally holding back sobs. It definitely had its happy moments, the main character was so full of life. But the ending hit me so hard in a way I was not prepared for. Highly, highly recommended.

Yesterday, I finished my last performance a week early without any problems. It's all thanks to the love and interest that so many people have sent our way. At the start of the premiere and even as time went on, I had no idea that this work would be loved so much for as long as it has. The producer said the same thing and with gratitude is already planning fore greater development, so I think that next season's Manderley on Fire will come back burning spectacularly hot. At the premiere, director Robert Johanson said, "Don't watch Hitchcock's film, rather, study and imagine and plan through the original novel, and find the mystery and pull it out." I try to apply those words every season, and I think this must be the ant hell power of a work like Rebecca. Dear Director Robert, I want to say thank you again for teaching me how to dig deeper always for the jewel beneath,, I love you🩷 You've seen it many times but it's always new. Rebecca, a mystery thriller that gives you goosebumps and expands as you try to figure it out; a perfect musical harmony by the composer Sylvester Levay! Throughout these ten years, of the many teams that contributed in bettering the quality, the Assistant Directors' hard work, who monitored every performance and kept it from becoming a mess, was the biggest [yet]. Thank you so much to Assistant Director Ki Jin Joo and Se Hyuk 🙏🏻💧 I would like to express my deepest gratitude to Director Kang Eun Mi and the theater officials who always had a delicate hand in operating the condition of the theater and the sound environment to the best quality.
