I’ve been having a bit of a rough week. My anxiety is acting up and I’m starting to realized that perhaps signing up for a bunch of large commitment extra curriculars isn’t such a great idea after all.
I felt super overwhelmed and had to pass off some of my responsibilities, but after a hot chocolate and making some to-do lists, it’s not looking like the end of the world anymore.

I need to personally kill Newton and Leibniz and every professor who insists on teaching the archaic and severely outdated and redundant ideas and concepts of limits, interpreting derivatives, and curve sketching. Anyone who says Calc II is harder than Calc I is horribly wrong and should have tomatoes thrown at them

Horizontal Translation of Logarithmic Functions
-- Formulae: -> g(x) = logb (x + c) -> g(x) = logb (x - c)
-- g(x) = logb (x + c) shifts the graph of f(x) = logb (x) to the left c units and moves the vertical asymptote to x = -c
-- g(x) = logb (x - c) shifts the graph of f(x) = logb (x) to the right c units and moves the vertical asymptote to x = c

Okay. Imma keep this real. I am studying math and I already know what I'm writing is wrong. BUT. I will post this anyway.
Proof that ln(X)=ln(-X):
ln(-x) = ln(-x²/x) [Since x can't be 0]
ln(-x) = ln(x²) - ln(-x) [Used the property of ln(a/b) is ln(a) - ln(b)]
2*ln(-x) = ln(x²) [Take move the -ln(-x) to the other side]
2*ln(-x) = 2*ln(x) [ Used the property ln(x²) = 2*ln(X)]
ln(-x) = ln(x) for x in (-∞,0)U(0,∞).

This theory assumes that all voter behavior is driven by Tumblr traffic. If that were true, then absolutely, you would see roughly logarithmic shapes every time there was a push because of the way Tumblr's algorithm communicates posts to interested parties. Big burst at the front as the relevant Tumblr fandom sees the poll, slowly diminishing in rate of increase as the voter pool is saturated and there are fewer people willing to vote who have not already voted. But that's not actually what's happening, because that's not how Warrior Nun fandom finds these polls.
I can't speak for TLT fandom or Vrisezi fandom or any of the others, but Avatrice/Warrior Nun fandom isn't especially prominent on Tumblr. Some of us are here, but it's really a small fraction of the fanbase. I hear there is (or was) a contingent on Tik Tok, and maybe some other places, but the primary organizing locations for Avatrice fandom are Bluesky and maybe some still on Twitter. Avatrice spikes correlate very strongly with traffic on those sites, much like large Tumblr account pushes correlate with major bumps. UNLIKE, say, demilypyro, though, Avatrice fandom doesn't have a single person with the level of extreme profile that allows them to saturate the entire fandom at once. What it has is a large network of people who routinely, and continuously, worldwide, repost and encourage people on other platforms to hop over to Tumblr and vote. So what does this look like? Well, most of Avatrice fandom rarely sees the poll when it first comes up, so there's usually no initial burst of voters like there is for other, more Tumblr-focused, fandoms. As a result, the initial slope is not a function of the fandom boosting on Tumblr and exhausting the voter pool, whatever that may be. Instead, people like me see the poll and cross-post to other platforms. People who follow me there post it. People who follow them post it. And on and on and on. Because of the way the Warrior Nun fandom is fragmented (some people in it for the fics, some for the art, some group running activities, yes really, etc.), the scope of the people reached expands over time. In other words when this happens, instead of logarithmic decay, like you see when there's a large burst of initial interest that peters out over time as the population of voters is exhausted, you see exponential growth. Exponential growth looks more or less like half of a parabola, which is exactly what you see from the Avatrice votes starting just before 12:00 on January 10. Of course, this doesn't disprove voter fraud. I'm just one person, and have no idea what every other person in the fandom does when it comes to these polls. What I do know is that the Tumblr-centric model of voter behavior that you're using to evaluate fraud doesn't apply to Avatrice fandom.
Anyway. These are always a good time, win or lose, and thanks for running them!
What do you mean there's voter fraud?? How can you tell?
We've talked a bit before about how we're able to tell when fraud is occurring based on our graphs, but let's go into detail using some compare and contrasts from the graphs from this bracket! Below are a few graphs where you can see what ordinary voter behavior tends to look like.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
As you can see, what tends to happen is that there will be a surge of votes at the beginning of a poll when people first see it, after which the curve begins to level out as fewer and fewer people are seeing the poll for the first time.
However, on some occasions we get a sudden surge in votes when someone with a lot of followers reblogs a poll post, thus exposing it to a large new audience. In these cases, we get bumps in the graphs that look like this:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In these cases, the sudden sharp uptick in votes correspond directly with reblogs from demilypyro. Notice how the curve of the graph afterwards still follows the same pattern of ordinary voter behavior though! A new wave of people sees the poll and votes in it, but over time the curve levels back out.
Now, compare that to the most recent graph of Avatrice vs Griddlehark.
Tumblr media
Notice how the lines just keep going up at an almost completely steady rate, only to sharply decrease in slope rather than steadily leveling off! That's not ordinary voter behavior by any means! That's the work of one person, or perhaps a group of people, plugging away giving votes to Avatrice, until they suddenly stop and the graph falls off again. And it looks like Griddlehark had their own warriors: you can see the sharp uptick into an almost completely straight diagonal line a little after 12PM UTC on Jan 11, which suddenly drops off a few hours later, right around when the Avatrice graph starts escalating again. And bear in mind that while that Griddlehark spike may look small on the graph, that's only because the poll in total got nearly 16k votes! That uptick for Griddlehark represents at least 500 votes, if not more! But sadly, it looks like whoever was battling for Griddlehark simply could not keep up with the sheer power of the Avatrice fraudster.
Now, there's definitely been fraud in other polls during this bracket. There's even been fraud in other polls just this past round; one look at the stairstep nonsense that is the Vrisrezi graph for this round would tell you that much. But the reason Avatrice has been winning the competition for best graph by far is the massive, unprecedented level of dedication. The steady increase in the graph above begins at around 8PM UTC on Jan 10, and then extends all the way until nearly 12PM UTC on Jan 11. That's nearly sixteen hours straight of voter fraud! Casting thousands of votes!
We've said before that we love doing these brackets because we get to witness these endeavors of human passion, and good lord, does at least one particular Avatrice fan have passion. At this rate, they may even have passion enough to sweep this entire bracket!
Unless, of course, people are willing to step up to the plate and start frauding back. Which, quite frankly, we would love to see.

I wish I had something cool or different to put in my bio outside of the pieces of media that I like and what I think about them.
Something cool and interesting like ‘biologist’, ‘scientist’, ‘teacher’, or ‘social worker’
I got nothing to describe but the just a simple viewer of amazing animated series and other pieces of media

fun fact: You wanna know how you calculated trigonometric functions and logarithms (very handy for complex multiplications!) before calculators?
You had tables!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
yeah it's just a book of lots of numbers. these were worked out by hand. It's hundreds of pages. This (along with your slide-rule) was essential to every math student.
This one is a 1959 reprint of a 1943 original
