organizing some files, thinking about International Lolita Day and just... fell down a bit of a rabbit hole which then turned into an existential crisis....
mah dudes, it's one thing when joke "have DVDs older than you" but ... but... but... have a Gothic Lolita burando piece that isn't just "older than you been into this fashion" (not condescending, plz keep at it!), *rubs bridge of nose* this was not an EGL Comm Sales nor LaceMarket "vintage"/second-hand buy THIS WAS BOUGHT BRAND-NEW AT ORIGINAL RELEASE (in dark ages when buying direct-from-Japan needed either u knowing this One Girl on LJ who was going on a trip, or jumping 20hoops for a shopping service! (which was just another lady living in Japan at the time) and hoping they'd spot the piece u wanted) This specific brand, bless, deemed us worthy of international shipping BUT ANYWAY rambles are boring, lets look at pretty pictures instead shall we
Tumblr media
Meta calls this piece simply "Gingham Check Tiered Skirt" (ギンガムチェックティアードスカート) seasonal collections or pieces getting fancy names that are sometimes absolutely random girl names or bad engrish translation is a fairly new phenomenon, sometimes a literal description is best
✧ 2005 did u think I was kidding about its age was gifted this lovely skirt, and literally just ... pulled whatever was black/white to wear it out immediately! Hilariously, getting the big butt-bow tied was A Challenge: he couldn't do it because boys can't bows, I couldn't because can't see what doing behind me, his mom couldn't help because she didn't raise girls so out of bows-tying practice....
Tumblr media Tumblr media
✦ 2006 - Disney trip, of course brought it We did Lilo and Stitch breakfast and Every. Single. Time. Stitch passed me, he'd tug on the skirt's bow *taps hairbow* made it myself to go with the skirt! (using the very proper GosuLoli Sewing patterns mook no less!) and every couple years a friend send me his FB memories snap he took of me with Princess Jasmine in this, and we both cry over the date
Tumblr media Tumblr media
an otaku pilgrimage stop on drive back
Tumblr media
✷ 2007 ya hear of burando~whores? Well have we got a treat then a full Meta coord: blouse, skirt and headdress!
something something pale vampire
Tumblr media Tumblr media
♡ 2008 One Braincell, Much Frills
very smart ladies freezing in the New England snows, send help. Also, as can clearly see, now with a matching gingham headdress (still Metamorphose, this "brand wh0re" business ain't a joke)
Tumblr media
and then went on a trip to London and you freakin bet this was packed along! fondest memory was absolutely fangirling over a life-sized DALEK statue in a bookshop, and someone came up to tell me, "your outfit's brilliant"
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
♪ 2009 how cool are my loli~friends? We dressed up to go play RockBand and mofo at-home DDR! all you kids with your TikToks and ...and... Zooms.... u will never be this cool
Fun fact: that headdress from before? The tiny bows were detachable! So could use them as separate hairclips for other looks
Tumblr media Tumblr media
♫ 2010 - do not think anyone comprehends just how FULL this skirt is! It's 3 gathered tiers, and that bottom one is freakin miles of fabric. Plus the waist ties, and full lining with tulle sewn in
Tumblr media Tumblr media
♠ 2011 are you tired of this nonsense yet? 'cause it keeps a~goin!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
♢2014 oooh bit of a skip! did own a lot of other pretty dresses, skirt was packed away for a bit fun fact: am actually freezing in NYC winter outdoors.... we went to see a play staring Sir Ian McKellen & Sir Patrick Stewart!!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
and finally 2022, on the most freakin FREEZING negative-degrees day in January we went out for honeytoast and I was like .. ya know what... oldskool coord!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
is my skirt old enough to drive? ... yes... yes it is.... As always, hope everyone enjoyed and for the love of Mana, don't do the math... OMFG plz don't even try to math this one out
Not writing up coord break-down, other "brands" featured are in no particular order: Fan+Friend, Baby the Stars Shine Bright, rando shit from HotTopic and Kohls (or as the kids say "off brand"), LipService, Bodyline, Secret Shop, Innocent World, AnnaHouse and a bunch of cute Etsy jewelry bits

Haaaai !! Welcome to my blog.. I reblog about anything that I might enjoy 🩷 mostly a lot of stuff I relate to: mental health problems, characters I ID with, tons of obsessive loveposting, occasionally my own art and hobbies..

I'm very very.. possessive of those characters since they're me and and me only .. ໒꒰՞ ܸ. .ܸ՞꒱ა I also heavily ID with the term Loli, due to a lack of physical development and mental age !! Note
If you would have to do a video or picture series called "100 Years of Wafuku fashion", which covers the decades 1900s to 2000s (or maybe you can extend it to up to maybe the 2020s). Which shows not only what the clothing looked like but other parts of the ensemble as well (i.e. hairstyles, make up, and accessories). What will you show as like the representation of each decade?
Fashion and hairstyles history overview could easily fill a book. And we are not even touching the issue of handling subdivisions like social class, areas of Japan, subcultures, etc etc.
So, pinpointing fashion trends over such a loooong period of time is difficult... Maybe one day I'll have the bravery for such a project but today is not the day xD
Still, off the top of my head, you can find those subjects (loosely) covered in following past posts:
[100 Years of Beauty: Japan - Research Behind the Looks] video, which goes with this video released by CUT [Evolution of furisode fashion from the 1950′s to 2020′s] charts For hairstyles, look at the nihongami tag, especially Shota Kotake's illustrations and Nancy Duong's Hairstyles of Taisho Japan (new source is here) My kimono tag is not truly organized by eras :S You can still check the following periods: Meiji, Taisho (or Taisho romance), WWII. Also check any "antique"* mention. Post WWII is messier. I have a few things filled under Showa, and virtually nothing tagged as Heisei ("vintage"* is not properly ordered enough :S). For late Heisei/Reiwa look at modern kimono tag. (* on this blog, I use antique and vintage quite liberally!) I can't find all the posts I am thinking of, but subcultures I've covered in the past includes moga, bankara, gyaru, decora, kawaii / loli, bozozoku, ... I'll also recommend this article (cw: USA internment camps), as wafuku history doesn't stop at Japan and should also includes overseas. I don't have much on then occupied territories (like Manchouria, Korea, Phillipines, Singapore etc) + the Ryuukyuu but they should also be cited here!
Hope you'll find something useful among those messy recommendations ^^;

Sailor Regulus
╔═════ ∘◦⛧ミ◦∘ ══════╗
 Seishin Wantanabe / Sailor Regulus
╚═════ ∘◦ ミ⛧ ◦∘ ═════╝
Tumblr media
:Mission:
Seishin was just an ordinary kid going to Mugan Academy. She’s trying to get to grips with highschool bullies, algebra and how to wear a skirt when suddenly a mysterious force wants her dead.
Turns out she’s Sailor Regulus, reincarnation of a warrior princess and last of the Leo’s Alliance. Fortunately she has the Inners to teach her, and she’ll need all the help she can get. Her forefathers protected the mysterious Infinite Lion Armor but one by one they were struck down by the brutal legionnaire Alcides, and he will not let some puny princess stand between him and immortality.
Tumblr media
╔═══*.·:·.☽✧    ✦    ✧☾.·:·.*═══╗
Civilian Form
╚═══*.·:·.☽✧    ✦    ✧☾.·:·.*═══╝
:Name & Meaning:
Although he was born with the name Yurei, meaning ‘ghost’, it began to fit less and less until highschool was a chance to reinvent herself. She chose the name Seishin, a feminine name meaning ‘spirit’. Her surname Wantanabe means ‘transition’ or ‘to cross’ .
:Age & Birthday:
Born on the 2nd of August, she’s fifteen and a Leo.
:Appearance:
Seishin stands quite tall for her age at 5’6 with a lanky figure she tries to hide behind various fashions. She’s always felt more comfortable with long hair, letting it fall in a silky veil to her waist with a brushed fringe and two long ribbons framing her face. Her eyes are a sapphire blue and her skin is slightly tanned with a long scar running down her right shoulder blade, red and raised and of unknown origin.
Although she’s still exploring her tastes, Seishin chooses cute and spunky fashion. She loves to accessorise with gloves and belts and colourful kerchiefs! Her jewellery box is filled with necklaces and dangling earrings. She is especially drawn to glittering, cut stones which she brings out at every chance.
:Nationality
Tumblr media
It means that although she’s practically an adult she has to relearn everything. She’s nearly fluent in the language but her knowledge of manners and customs still requires polish.
:Personality:
On top of transitioning to a female, moving to a new country and joining a new school, Seishin learns she’s a star princess sworn to fight evil. All these alien experiences have made her desperate to fit in and somewhat gullible, but it also makes her much more empathetic to the adversity of others.  Her loyalty to those who support her is unwavering and her trust in them unshakable.  She’s sensitive, easily distracted and her sensitivity to the opinions of others means she may suddenly need space and quiet to reassure herself.
This need to please makes Regulus a strong fighter and she doesn’t want to let her new teammates down. She idolises Sailor Moon and Sailor Venus as protectors both strong and feminine. She wants to impress them but as an amateur senshi she's still learning the tricks of the trade and harnessing her own growing powers. When she gets too excited her powers are prone to friendly fire which is so embarrassing! She wants them to know that she can protect them too and be a guardian senshi in her own right so she’ll try to track down her crown on her own.
:Likes:
English essays, Fridays, winter, thunderstorms, fish and chips and apple juice.
:Dislikes:
Snakes and spiders. She once had a bad experience with a huntsman and never forgot it.
:School:
Seishin is in the tenth grade of Mugan Academy because of her father’s connections. She has inherited his love of computers, but her favourite class is Japanese where she can explore the poetry and literature of her new home. She also appreciates history as she finds the stories useful for her writing. She’s also very athletic and was recruited for Mugan’s basketball team and slam dunks like a pro.
:Hobbies:
Since transitioning she’s been developing her own look. She loves thrifting and trying new styles, from retro to loli to visual kei! Every day and every shop is filled with possibilities! She enjoys escapism, whether it is through her videogames or her creative writing. She loves to disappear inside her own worlds of magic and aliens and alternate dimensions. Little did she know she’d get first hand experience.
:Family:
Seishin’s family has always been open and understanding, so the decision to come out was welcomed with her parent’s support.
Her father Makuri (to do something too much) Wantanabe is an exceptional computer programmer and businessman but also loving and supportive of his family. He thought nothing of following his wife Callwen- who took the name Hinaki (bright) when she immigrated back to her Tokyo. She is kind and accepting and has tried to pass on these virtues to her two daughters.
Unfortunately it hasn’t worked. Seishin’s older sister Akuru (black jewel) resents leaving London. Despite her innocent face she has become cruel, taking her frustrations out on Seishin in violent and vindictive ways.
:Relationships:
:Akira Saito:
Akira is a girl that enjoys singing and drawing and has a challenging history with personal demons, but through singing and drawing, she finds her escape from the world. For a while, they made themselves feel like all would be okay. She's also grown very fond of Seishin. The kindness she shows is very much needed, and in return, she loves having Seishin as a model for her. Yet one drawing from before she met Seishin is too eerily close to a vision she's seen.
:Chiyo Bushida:
Chiyo is a girl from a family that prides itself on honesty, integrity and hard work, coming from a family line that started from next to nothing, constantly swearing to keep remembering the values told by their great grandparents. She enjoys physical activities during the sports curriculums, especially full-contact sports that require physical strength and skill. They have grown close to each other with a friendly rivalry on the basketball court.
:Alexa Williams:
An American transfer student is also new to the school and refuses to accept the traditions compared to what she's used to in the States. She’s snobbish and thinks highly of only herself and her family. Due to this, she thinks everyone is a worm compared to her. She firmly believes in tradition and dislikes… Deviations. Seishin has become a favourite target because she knows something is off with that girl. Something is unnatural in how she carries herself and how she walks. She will expose it to the whole world and show everyone what a weirdo she truly is!
:Sexual Orientation:
Seishin is still figuring it out, finding a few guys and girls in her class that she's finding herself pulled towards, though she's rather obvious to queues and hints dropped by friends and the people she's been speaking wit. But out of all the people she's met there's a certain blunette who is clever and adorable.

Sailor Regulus
╚═══*.·:·.☽✧    ✦    ✧☾.·:·.*═══╝
:Name:
Sailor Regulus
:Guardian Starseed:
She holds the starseed for the only large planetary body in the Regulus system which takes its name from its star. It is a dry planet, prone to boom and bust seasons, covered by various arid biomes and mysteriously pure wellsprings.
There are labyrinthine red sand dunes that tower and shift in cool breezes. And vast salt pans claimed by ancient bequeathed by transitory seas, landlocked places of death and hopelessness. The creatures that live there are strange, opportunistic scavengers.
Much of its population is nomadic, and palm groves sprouting from river wadis provide respite along migration routes but it is the permanent oasis that are the jewels of civilization.  Lying above boundless aquifers, they grow plants like apricots, dates, figs, and olives. Their markets weave brightly woven cotton and trade lustrous opal, tanzanite, garnet, emerald and diamond.
Tumblr media
:Realm of Influence:
Much of her powers come from her totem symbol, the lion. It represents family, courage and protection.
:Past Life:
In the depths of space, many aeons ago was King Nemea, the Lion Majesty. He was rumoured to be immortal due to his impenetrable armour and powerful weapons. He would fight the agents of Chaos, shining as a beacon of hope as golden as the sun.
He doted on his five daughters and he vowed he would always protect them. When they were married he gave each of them an heirloom to pass down through the generations. Denebola his breastplate, Subra his pauldrons, Chort his cuirass, Zosma his girdle, Algieba his greaves and Regulus his crown to unite them. Time passed and history vanished into legend.
Until one day a ferociously cruel mercenary named Alcides consulted the Oracle of Ophiuchus; The Pythoness. He yearned for immortality and she told him of the renowned armour of the Lion Majesty. He and his legionaries (Achilles, a powerful, arrogant warrior. Perseus, a brilliant strategist. Orpheus, an enchanting musician. And Aeneus, alluring beauty.) struck down each of the royal families of the Leo Alliance. With each fallen star he took their Artefact, bringing him closer to the all powerful, undying conqueror he knew was his destiny.
The King Othniel (Lion of Kings) and Queen Ariel (Lion of God) of Regulus knew of his approach and feared for their daughter. They used the Silver Millennium Cotillion as an excuse to smuggle Princess Leocadia (Splendid Brightness of the Lion) and her guard Sapphire out of the system, leaving behind her parents and sisters. There she was briefly introduced to Silver Queen Serenity, her daughter and the inner princesses who made her feel at home.
The peace was short-lived as the Moon Kingdom was struck down. Sailor Regulus was separated from the senshi and although she fought valiantly, she also lost her life.  She was also reincarnated, although perhaps not as intended.
However Grand Regis Alcedes hasn’t given up. With five of the six artefacts he has only aged ten years of the one thousand , but it is ten years he will make the heir of Nemea regret. After years of searching he has finally found the key to life eternal and nothing. Will stand in his way.
:Allies/Team Mates:
Leo Senshi:
Long ago it was expected Sailor Regulus would replace her father as the guardian of Regulus when she came of age and part of that responsibility would be leading the senshi of the Leo Alliance.
In his quest for the Artefacts, it is thought that the Great King Alcedes killed them and their starseeds returned to the Galaxy Cauldron. It is unknown if they have reincarnated but likely they would be drawn to the remaining heir.
Sailor Denebola - MIA
Sailor Subra - MIA
Sailor Chort - MIA
Sailor Zosma - MIA
Sailor Algieba - MIA
Inners:
Although only a year younger than the Inners, Regulus is the baby of the senshi still finding her feet. Venus is a wonderful leader and teacher, as is Artemis. Together they patrol the night searching for leads. However she feels herself warm and flustered as she gets to know Sailor Mercury.
Tumblr media
Spirit Guide:
When King Othniel sent his daughter to the Silver Millennium Cotillion he sent her personal guard, Captain Saphira with her. She died defending Princess Leocadia and when she was reincarnated on Earth she vowed she would never fail her again.
Tumblr media
Captain Saphira belongs to the planet Hund, a species like the Mauese have the ability to switch between canine and human form. They are well appreciated across the galaxy for their loyalty and determination. Captain Saphira’s canine form bears a striking resemblance to Earth’s golden retrievers. Unfortunately since reincarnating she hasn’t been able to transform back into her human form.
Saphira has a sisterly protection of Seishin, and is often all that stands between her and Akura’s bullying.
Know your enemy, know your enemy and you know the key to victory. She spends a lot of time with Sailor Mercury researching Alcedes past conquests to fortify their team for the coming fight. She believes in preparation and cringes at Sailor Regulus’s rash behaviour in battle.
:Henshin Item:
Tumblr media
Given to her in a flash of light by her bodyguard Saphira, she received the Ring of Regulus. Although she was expected to have her own transformation item forged when she came of age, there was no time. King Othniel pressed his own ring, that which transformed him into the warrior Lion Heart, into her palm as she left for the Silver Millenium.
It is a golden ring with a sapphire clenched in the jaws of a maned lion’s head. The sapphire is inscribed with the symbol of Leo. It’s a little loose but Seisen treasures it as a link to her past.
:Henshin Phrase:
Seishen reaches to the sky with her hand aloft and ring finger gleaming. She shouts "Leo! Regulus! Give me strength!"
Bright blue flames erupt from the sapphire, coalescing into the the form of a lion’s head behind her before dissolving in tongues of fire. They lick out, wrapping around her body to form her bodice and skirt. They tangle with her arms and legs to reveal her heels and gloves. Finally the head roars again, blowing her hair in turmoil and on her brow gleams her symbol before forming a teardrop shaped sapphire burning with an inner fire.
The sapphire flames whirling around her body recede back into the lion which bellows one more time as Sailor Regulus poses and prepares to attack.
:Symbol:
Tumblr media
:Guardian Challenge:
“Arising for the fires of battle, I am the lion hearted Sailor Regulus and with pride I’ll protect! Surrender now or face my wrath!”
:Guardian Fuku:
Sailor Regulus is wilder than her civilian counterpart. Her body is distinctly feminine, with breasts and flaring hips. Her silky hair is long and unruly, an untamed mane that flies around her in battle. Her scruffy fringe hides that she doesn’t have a tiara, but a teardrop shaped sapphire between her eyes that glows and flashes as she becomes more emotional.
With white signalling calm and cool, blue signalifying feelings of sorrow, pink flustered, red overwhelming rage and black.
Her sailor colour is midnight blue with gold and white trim in a lattice edge. Her bodice is two layered, black with wite over, trimmed in gold with golden hip guards. Her skirt is also two layered, pleated white with an overlay of midnight blue, lighter and more flowing. Her blueblack gloves have metallic rings with tufted white fur. She wears white open toed sandals just over her ankles.
:Weapon:
Her ancestral weapon is the Lion Rampant, a urumi or whipsword that would lash like claws.
Tumblr media
:Attacks:
Regulus Roaring Rush
Regulus crosses her arms across her chest before flinging them wide with a guttural scream. Behind her the majestic maned lion head lets out a deafening roar, stunning the enemy and sending them flying in furious winds.
Regulus Claw Crush
Regulus swipes her claw like fingers through the air and spectral claws maul the enemy again and again.
Regulus Lion’s Pride
Regulus stands tall, her body beginning to glow as one by one five giant phantasmic lions begin to burn with silver auras. With the final word they lunge to destroy the enemy.

Anu-Hellsing™ (Arcanas-fool)
This poor person posted this blog on DA June 5th before the slander and harassment campaign took place. @arcanas-dork doesn't seem to care or realize what kind of danger they put people in when they make unproven claims about others based on a desire for attention and a need to live a fantasy life.... You aren't a hero for trying to "expose" people and you throw the word slander around without seeing the issues of what you've done to others. Just because you think something is true about another person doesn't make it okay to harass others and call them pedophiles or make up more bullshit stories to fit your narrative and brag about how you're a hero to humanity when in actuality you're just recklessly playing around with the potential to drive people you don't even know into an early grave..
Tumblr media
You're not a teenager anymore and you should know this shit isn't okay! If you can make a call-out on another person and happily leave it up months after or bring it up in other places then here's yours with the exception being that you actually have a chance to defend yourself that the people you've lied on and attacked haven't.
BTW, that LOLI-CLUB on DA is a fucking FASHION CLUB and you used their easily searchable club history as proof that they were a pedophile?? How do you think this shit is okay?!

- 7 years old: While playing with Jacob, she accidentally fell into a frozen lake and almost drowning. Developed a fear for water and cold weather .
- 10 years old:
Jacob’s dissapperance.
After the incident, rumors spread throughout the town, affected not only Josephine’s work but also the family’s life. This was the time Sophie got mocked and bullied a lot, even got kick out by her friends (mainly because she’s Jacob’s sister and they either only played with her because of Jacob’s fame or afraid of getting involved to the scandal)
The Langster had to move to London to find Jacob + be able to live and work normally again.
Because of the massive change in such a short time ( Jacob, pressure from the rumors, new enviroment, new people, ......) Sophie started to have anxiety, therefore caused her shyness and stress. Noticed this, Edmund and Jopsephine suggested her trying on small hobbies, which led Sophie discovered her passion for cooking, especially about cookies.
- 11 years old: Received a letter from Hogwarts; became a trio with Rowan and Ben; discovered about the vault
-12 years old: Joined the Quidditch Club ; broke the first Vault; overcame her fear of cold
- 13 years old: Became an Animagus; joined the Spinx  and Dragon Club; broke the second Vault, meet Talbot and developed feeling for him by the end of the year
- 14 years old: Became assistant for Rakepick; join the Higgpogiff Club; secretly dating Talbot in the late half of the year
 - 15 years old: (to be continue.......)
PERSONALITY
 - Friendly : She thinks that people deserve to have at least one friends since she used to experience loliness in London; tried to make many friends as possible, or just simply got along with others
 - Cheerful: “ A smile a day keeps bad things away” is her motto

Their favourite food is popcorn drizzled in white chocolate.
They know how to juggle.
They are only 4′11″.
They were vegan from birth until they came to Luxor and were allowed to make their own decisions about their diets.
They speak in a loli voice all of the time.
Past:
Sutton was born two months early on the 19th of June, 2004 six minutes after their twin was born. They were the fifth born child to a successful architect and a world renowned designer, both from the Ukraine. Although born earlier than expected, Sutton and their twin were born with silver spoons. Growing up, whatever they asked for they were given.
The only thing their parents asked for in return was to excel, so they could make their own money, their own lives, and not always be dependent on their parents. Every child was required to play an reinstatement and a sport. While Sutton had no interest in anything except anime growing up, their nanny put them in swim lessons which developed quickly into competitive swimming, as well as finding them a trumpet teacher, as it seemed the easiest for a small child like Sutton to play. Now Sutton is one of the fastest swimmers in the district at just 15 years of age.
Around age 12, when puberty hit, Sutton started to feel uncomfortable with who they were. With a few months in therapy, Sutton discovered many things about themselves and came to the conclusion that they were genderfluid, dancing easily between the spectrum of genders but never feeling completely whole with a single one.
Sutton has always been close with their twin, thriving in the infant ICU only when near their other half. Growing up the duo were inseparable, speaking in their own language, refusing to be without one another, finding comfort just in the presence of the other. As they grew as individuals, they remained close but found things that made them unique. For Sutton those things consisted of old video games and anime.
Personality:
Discovered at a young age, Sutton has a vindictive side. They refuse to get anything except the last word or action in a fight. Even going as far as holding a petty grudge until the time is right to strike. Although more often than not, their vengeful tactics are ill thought out and in the heat of the moment.
However it does take a lot to push Sutton over the edge, as they are a very understanding individual, wanting nothing really more than to step into the other’s shoes and learn from their perspective of life.
Classes:
Shakespearean Studies
Advanced Algebra
Yoga
German
Photography
Psychology
Band
World History
Extracurricular Activities:
School Paper (photographer)
Marching Band (trumpet)
Concert Band (trumpet)
Swim team (breaststroke)
Wanted Connections:
Rebound - Sutton has a broken heart and is trying desperately to get over it. They are convinced that the best way to get over somebody is to get with somebody new. (Blame pop culture for that messed up thought.) Open to all genders, since Sutton doesn’t exactly know what they want.
Swimming rival - can be a new or old connection, since Sutton has been swimming since they were young. The person that Sutton has beat in the past, but who has also beaten their times. Constantly fighting to be the best
Childhood friend - Someone Sutton knew when they were young. Someone they hung out with during the many benefits and charity functions their parents hosted.
Twin - their twin, the person Sutton has always had by their side until they didn’t anymore. Secret related stuff happened. Now they are somewhat estranged. Sutton left for Luxor a bit before they did. Can be male or female or non binary, identical or not.
The obsession - the person that Sutton meets that they believe is a god walking among the students. That is meant literally, this connection Sutton would truly believe is one of the old pagen god come down to earth.
Long lost half-sibling - it’s no secret that Sutton’s father has cheated on their mother. This connection would be one where the mistresses child comes out of the woodwork, maybe because their mother died or maybe they never knew their father and holds an uncanny resemblance to Sutton.

♡52 Weeks of Lolita Questionnaire♡
In a recent Lovely Lor video, Lor answered questions from Loliprompts’ questionnaire “52 weeks of lolita”. It seems like a fun list of questions and I thought I would answer them too~ ♡
1. What is your favorite brand, and why? What’s its history? ♡  I guess my favorite brand would have to be Angelic Pretty. I love a lot of other brands, but the majority of dresses in my wish list right now are Angelic Pretty. As for their history? I don’t really know haha, I guess I should research that a bit.
2. How would you describe lolita fashion to a curious person you met in passing? ♡ I always just say I am apart of a fashion club? People don’t generally require more than that but if they did I would probably tell them that it’s an alternative fashion based on Victorian fashion and we have a fashion club and we get dressed up and meet for tea and stuff.
3. What style do you think is the most underrated, and why? ♡ qi and wa lolita. I almost never see them, or see interest in them which is a shame because there are some really beautiful dresses out there that are suited for these styles.
4. What does the phrase “lolita lifestyle” mean to you, and do you, or would you like to, adhere to it? ♡ lolita lifestyle is when you try to bring lolita or lolita-esque aesthetics into every aspect of your life. Maybe wearing lolita every or most days, and having a very “loliable” home/room. I could never be a lifestyler because I have other fashion interests. Also lolita is not appropriate at my workplace.
5. What do you think constitutes lolita etiquette or good manners? ♡ I don’t believe there is any “lolita etiquette” I think you should just be yourself. Good manner are good manners, don’t be rude to your comm members, don’t dance on the tables at a tea party. But that’s just commonsense I don’t think there is a way to behave that is lolita.
6. Does your style change with the seasons, or do you dress the same and try to bear the cold/heat? ♡ I try, but admittedly I am awful at it. I try to keep berets in the cooler months, as well as long sleeves. BUT I’m a sucker for ankle socks and I wear them all year despite the cold and I do freeze my legs off at winter meets.
7. Do you have a fashion role-model? What do you admire most about them? ♡ I actually have several! I will list them and their instagrams here: sleepyriri  - Her coords are so dreamy looking, very light floaty aesthetic which I love. She also has her own lolita brand! Le_verger_sucre - Her coords are so pink and princess-y. I find myself sharing her photos a lot. Fannyrosie - the classic lolita queen. Need I say more? Tokimeki.bunny - I love the cuteness of her coords. They always have a lot of extra elements and are so well balanced. She’s also really good at coordinating printed tights which I am awful at. Tsumikko - Lavender QUEEN! I love her use of aprons, layering, and color balancing. Very light, floaty vibes.  Milkcircus - Print QUEEN. Her use of prints and patterns absolutely inspires me. Coords are always very multi-dimensional  Cursed.Kaiser - They’re coords are honestly so cool, there’s a kind of drama in them that I really like. Darkxdelirium - She almost made me want honey cake with her impeccable coording skills.
8. What are the top 10 things you love most about lolita? Can you also compile a list of things you hate? ♡ I don’t think I can come up with 10 but I’ll do my best. ♡ Loves: The community aspect, the ability to reclaim my femininity through lolita, the creativity that goes into building coords, crafting to make one of a kind pieces, being able to feel beautiful without being “sexy”, having a hobby to focus on when I need something to escape to.
♡ Hates: Second-hand market price fluctuation, brands still releasing dresses with a max 96cm bust, buying petticoats, storing my stuff (especially purses), brands who charge astronomical prices for low quality materials (AP purses, Q-pot jewelry, etc).
9. How strict are you in applying the rules to yourself? To others? ♡  I am pretty strict on myself. For a long time I was terrified to be seen as ita. I was even afraid to wear bodyline for fear of being ”ita” even though my coord was good. These days I am less strict on myself and worry much less about these things, but I still struggle to get out of the strict mindset from time to time. others? I love experimentation even if I am afraid to do so so I am really not too strict on others, if it works, it works, and I am not going to criticize anyone.
10. What’s the weirdest thing you’ve ever incorporated into a coord, or the weirdest material you’ve ever worn? ♡ The weirdest thing I think I have ever worn in a coord were a pair of korilakkuma bell earrings. As you can imagine, bells on your ears? not great.
11. What’s the story behind your discovery of lolita fashion? ♡ When I was a senior in high school, a new girl started attending my school. She wore fairy kei and sweet lolita to school. We became friends through art class and eventually she ended up teaching me about the fashion. She sold me my first dress, and later my first brand piece. I am really glad to have met her and to have been exposed to lolita. You can follow her on instagram here
12. What is the one item that you’ve owned the longest? ♡ I still own my very first dress I got in 2012. Bodyline Squirrel Party. However, I am planning to sell it since I’ve worn it in everyway I can think of.
13. Do you think lolita is only about clothes, or does it also encompass a certain attitude or mindset? ♡ Lolita is about the fashion. All kinds of people are lolitas and they like it or wear it for different reasons.
14. Have you ever decorated a room or other space (car?) with lolita aesthetics in mind? ♡ My old bedroom used to be very “kawaii”. I love pink so my car stuff, my desk, as much as I can get away with, is pink.
15. Is it possible to be too obsessed with lolita? ♡ If lolita is interfering with your ability to pay your bills, or to be happy, or to focus on school or work or family then you should probably pull back. Some people do get very absorbed by things and in those cases it can become too much.
16. What are you favorite and least favorite trends? Do you think it’s important to follow them, or to do as you like regardless of them? ♡ My favorite trend ever is the chiffon half blouse. So comfortable, affordable, light, cute, and much more size inclusive. Least favorite trend? mis-matched shoes from the 2010 era. I like my shoes to get equal wear. I think these days more than ever, you can really just do whatever you want. Wear the fashion is right now is like anything goes which I think is great,
17. How do you define “lolita cosplay” and how do you feel about it? ♡ Lolita cosplay is stupid. sorry
18. Are there other fashions that you wear regularly, or are you an everyday lolita? ♡ I don't wear other street fashions anymore. I used to wear fairy kei and himekaji but these days I just dress regular outside of lolita.
19. Do you look for bargains to save as much money as possible, or are you willing to make sacrifices for high-quality products? ♡ I try to find the best prices when applicable but if I am in love with something I’ll do what I have to do.
20. When was the last time you wore lolita, and what did you do that day? If you wear it daily, when was the last time you went OTT or extra-fancy? ♡ The last time I wore lolita was in April lmao. For a virtual meet-up with my comm.
21. If you were to combine lolita fashion with an unrelated style or theme, what would your new creation be? ♡uhhhh I honestly have no idea at all.
22. What is your favorite accessory, and why is it your favorite? ♡ I have 2, 2-way bow clips from back when bodyline had a massive “sundries” section. They're no longer available and haven't been for a long time. I am really glad I got them, I wish I had bought more sundries when that section was still there.
23. What’s your favorite online lolita community or forum? Are there any that you avoid?  ♡ I don’t have a favorite tbh. I have never been on 4chan and I never will be.
24. What is your favorite theme (e.g. school loli, pirate loli, nurse loli) or motif (e.g. deer, music notes, stars/constellations)? ♡ black and gold stars! Valentines day! fruits! gingham!
25. Is there any music that you associate with lolita? ♡ orange caramel lol
26. Will you ever be too old for lolita? ♡  never
27. Do you enjoy sewing? Why or why not? ♡ I don’t know how to sew :(
28. How does your location affect your involvement in the local lolita community? Would you like to move elsewhere to be closer, or perhaps farther away? ♡ I drive about 1.5 hours for meetups because that’s the closest active comm. I do not mind so much. I’d like to maybe be closer.
29. Does your sleepwear resemble lolita at all? ♡  not at all. I sleep in oversized t-shirts
30. Can you admit to any unpopular opinions regarding lolita? ♡ I hate peeking bloomers. I’m sorry :(
31. How do you feel about Visual kei or Jrock, and do you feel it’s related to lolita, or not? ♡ Love it, and absolutely. Visual Kei is like lolitas relative.
32. Whether or not you wear them (looking at you, Ouji), do you prefer the look of skirts, JSKs, and OPs with or without prints? ♡ I like both, but these days I am appreciating non-printed items more.
33. How has your style evolved over time? ♡ It hasn't really, just gotten more refined.
34. If applicable, what other communities do you belong to? What other identities do you adopt? ♡ I’m queer, so the LGBTQ community is important to me.
35. What are your favorite shoes to wear with your style, or what’s your dream pair? ♡ I love heels. I do not like flat shoes because I like to elongate my legs. I don’t have a dream pair.
36. Would you, or have you ever, dressed your pets in lolita? ♡ lol I’d try but I don't think it would work.
37. How do you feel about people who wear lolita for Halloween? Does it depend on whether that person is already a lolita? ♡ Wearing lolita for Halloween as a lolita is fine, but wearing it as a costume is kind of meh.
38. Excluding fashion shows, what’s the most amount of outfits you’ve ever worn in a day? ♡ just 1 haha
39. What’s your worst lolita horror story? ♡  I don’t really have any. I one time went with some of my college friends to a con and I left my dorm building in full sweet early in the morning. I was afraid my dormmates would see me cause I did not want to explain but luckily no one was awake and I made it to the van unscathed.
40. Do you like sweets? If so, what’s your favorite dessert? ♡ I love angel food cake
41. Do you have any beauty products, health routines, or special diet to keep you at your best? ♡ I take co-q-10 for my eczema, I like laneige lip sleeping mask, especially in the winter.
42. What were the best and worst meetups you’ve hosted? If you haven’t hosted, would you like to someday? ♡ I wanted to host a garden meet this summer but covid ruined that. Maybe next year.
43. Who is your favorite artist? If not famous for lolita art, do you think they have lolita appeal? ♡ I love a lot of artists, some of them I think are lolita-adjacent because their style is kawaii. I’ll list some here: jisaaaa!  ubokhee MISOART_ meowwniz gojio_ hanavbara Fancy Surprise Arcade Healer Yurie Sekiya and many many more. Go stalk my following on instagram for lots of kawaii artists.
44. How do you feel about wigs? Do you wear any, or style your natural hair? ♡ I used to wear wigs, but my hair is too long now so I use my natural hair with fake bangs.
45. What’s your favorite animal motif? ♡ bears?
46. Have you ever visited a brand’s shop/boutique? If so, what was your reaction? If not, what shop would you most like to visit? ♡ I want to visit AP San Francisco
47. Do you think posting photos of your coord online is a crucial part of belonging to the community? ♡ YES, it’s how we all stay connected and inspired
48. How has the lolita community changed since you became a part of it? Where do you see lolita heading in the future in terms of community and networking? ♡ I think it’s become way more accepting and accessible. When I got into lolita there were virtually no legit resellers, the community was entirely on livejournal, buying second hand was a nightmare. Buying anything! was a nightmare. There was so much stress around looking “ita”, and the superiority of brand. These days its just not like that. So much amazing taobao brands have really helped even the field for lolita. We have so much more access to the clothes, the community, everything. It’s great. I only see it getting better as years go on.
49. What advice would you give someone who is nervous about starting lolita? Or do you think they should learn their own lessons? ♡ I think too many lolitas today rely on seasoned lolitas to tell them everything. I would say, go watch lovely lor, read @lolita-tips and look at other peoples coordinates. Lolita Tips tumblr taught me basically everything I know back in the day and it a wealth of info and concrit. Part of what makes the lolita journey so great is the research, the learning, the mistakes. You don’t wanna be like someone else, you wanna be you. So you really need to do the work yourself so you can put your personal flair into the fashion. That’s when it’s at its best.
50. What’s your dream dress/garment? Is it a faraway goal or have you obtained it? ♡ My dream dress was AP sweetie violet jsk in lavender. Which I got in 2019. My new dream dress is AP rose tea garden jsk in navy. It’ll probably be a while before I can afford to buy one.
51. How do you feel about the stereotype that lolitas are full of drama? What’s the worst drama you’ve ever witnessed or been involved in? ♡ I think any and all groups of people are bound to have drama. I don’t believe that’s specific to lolita at all. I personally have not been involved in any lolita drama.
52. Are you loyal to any particular makeup brands? ♡ I am very particular about my makeup because I do not like to use certain ingredients. I really like Pacifica. But I also like some Korean brands like The Saem, MISSHA, and TonyMoly.
This was super long but I had fun answering all the questions. Have you done this questionnaire? I’d love to see your answers~

A Brief Look at Lolita Fashion
There is a difference between Lolita and lolita—one referring to the Nabokov novel from 1955, and one referring to the Japanese alternative fashion. Unfortunately, those not familiar with anime, Japanese culture, or alternative fashion, are confused when people use the term “lolita” to describe the fashion because of the association with the Nabakov novel. To be clear, lolita fashion has nothing to do with the book, and with this article, I want to explore the history of lolita, the assumptions of sexuality about lolita, and feminism in this “cutesy” fashion.
Lolita fashion started gaining prominence in the Harajuku district of Japan in the 1980s. Referred to as Elegant Gothic Lolita, or EGL, the style drew on inspiration from historical clothing from the Victorian and French Rococo, the lavish dresses and oh, the frills! Despite the idea of lolita being all pink, there are actually several substyles within lolita—including classic, sweet, and gothic. Each substyle has their own general color schemes and accessories, but they all follow the same respective silhouettes and guidelines.
Tumblr media
(Diagram from PenguinLolita)
An outfit is called a coordinate, and there are multiple pieces that make up a single coordinate. PenguinLolita uses a great diagram to showcase the anatomy of a coord (shorthand for coordinate). A coordinate includes either a one piece dress (OP), a jumperskirt (JSK) with a blouse, or a skirt with a blouse, a petticoat beneath the dress to help achieve an A-line shape, bloomers beneath the petti, usually worn to preserve modesty in case any curious outsiders try to pull the skirts up, socks or tights, shoes (typically a tea party shoe or Mary Jane style), and a head piece. The idea of the head piece is to balance out the volume and shape of the coordinate. Coordinate-inspired accessories are also encouraged, and Over the Top (OTT) coordinates are all the rage. Accessories can include, but are not limited to, rings, bracelets, wrist cuffs, necklaces, and bows. Parasols and purses are often seen to round out the look!
So where does the EGL community and the Nabokov book overlap? Well, they don’t. However, because the fashion shares a name with the Nabokov novel, it is easy for outsiders of the community to perceive EGL as something sexual. Coined as a “lolita complex,” or “lolicon,” this is the idea of older men, typically middle age, being attracted to younger girls, in line with the Nabokov novel. The EGL community is a place for women of all ages to honor this fashion and its roots as a fashion inspired by French Rococo styles. As PenguinLolita puts it, “The lolita subculture emphasises modesty and youthfulness, as well as drawing from the Japanese kawaii aesthetic, and isn't considered overtly sexual by its followers.”
It is, unfortunately, a common occurrence for lolitas to come across those who have assumptions and perceptions of what lolita is. Because of its youthfulness and cute fashion, members of the EGL community are often assumed to be dressing up to play out some sort of sexual fantasy. This really could not be further from the truth. Some lolitas have been attracted to the fashion because of its lack of sexualization and emphasis on expressing oneself. Lolita fashion inherently subverts the  social expectation of how women should dress. I’m not saying it’s not impossible for people to be attracted to the fashion and try to use pieces that are “lolita” inspired to fulfil some sexual desire, but that would not be lolita—plain and simple.
Coordinates can be incredibly expensive, especially when considering that pieces are not mass produced, thus emphasizing paying for the unique print, manufacturing of the garment, waiting for the garment to be made, and shipping. Buying pieces from brands such as Angelic Pretty and Baby, The Stars Shine Bright can reach up to $1,000+ USD. Considering everything that goes into a basic coordinate, this can be an easy deterrent for those who are not devoted to the fashion, or for those looking at it in a way that is purely sexual, so it is relatively easy to spot someone who is claiming to be part of the EGL community for all the wrong reasons. Additionally, the EGL community tends to use the terms lolita (lowercase ‘L’), EGL, and “lolita fashion” when discussing the fashion, and they avoid using the words Lolita (uppercase ‘L’), and loli.
What is the appeal to lolita fashion, and is it for everyone? As discussed before, the fashion is inherently nonsexual, and is something people of all ages can enjoy and wear. It is not just for women, though. The idea of lolita is to embrace non-traditional femininity, something that is incredibly important when masculinity is favored so prominently throughout the world. It defies this idea that women need to dress to attract work, love, and have kids. Lolita embraces cuteness and fun, and you can embrace everything that makes you YOU, all while engaging with the EGL fashion, whether you are Black, White, or part of the LGBTQIA+ community. Lolita is about honoring femininity and oneself, and there is a substyle for everyone. Recently, ouji has been becoming more popular to accompany  lolita fashion. The term “ouji” refers to a “prince-like” style. If lolita is a “princess-like” style, then ouji is its counterpart. Frills galore, but add pants; and this is the perfect fashion for individuals who love and appreciate the fashion, but do not feel comfortable in dresses or skirts (for a variety of reasons).
More than ever, lolita fashion is accessible to those not living in Japan, or individuals who do not fit in the “one size” (one size fits small) many name brand lolita companies use. Bodyline offers lolita pieces at a low price, and it is easy to buy directly from their Japanese site if you live out of the country. Additionally, Taobao lolita brands are becoming increasingly popular, and consumers outside of China and Japan can use shopping services for both Taobao brands and Japanese lolita brands. There are U.S. stores and websites for Angelic Pretty and Baby, The Stars Shine Bright, so North American lolitas can buy directly from there in English. Lolita has become so much more than an alternative fashion seen on the streets of Harajuku, Kei-Con, a convention for kawaii alternative fashion enthusiasts, popping up in Toronto, Canada, and Paradiso, a J-fashion convention based in the Midwest. With tea parties held at the Angelic Pretty stores around the world, the alternative fashion is becoming increasingly visible outside of Japan and accepted through various local EGL communities.
What about plus size lolitas? Many Taobao brands offer custom sizing on select pieces to help lolitas that don’t fit in the small sizing “standard.” Dollbe on Etsy offers JSKs and OPs up to 5XL, and their sizing is so inclusive. Dollbe is also  a Black-owned lolita company! Another size inclusive shop is Lady Sloth, a lolita brand from Poland. They offer custom sizing, as well, and their pieces range from sweet lolita to gothic lolita with classic disbursed between.
The EGL community is wonderfully inclusive and accepting. It embraces differences in those who participate in the fashion. The EGL community is, at its core, alternative fashion, which is accepting of all individuals who want to embrace femininity. Aside from the beautiful coordinates, lolita is about being yourself, truly. It can be an amazing and breathtaking experience to put on your first full coordinate. If you’re interested in lolita fashion, don’t be afraid to reach out to your local lolita community. Additionally, there are many lovely lolitas on Youtube that can aid you in your quest to build the lolita wardrobe of your dreams.
For links to my sources and additionally readings can be found here: Google Doc
A special thank you to the lovely lolitas from my own community in Michigan for helping me with this piece!

"Im on tumblr and I see a shit braindead post thts like, 'loli/lolita fashion is completely separate from pedophilia there's No Relation it was a randomly chosen name in the 70s'
and I was like,,, fellas,,,,,
Nabokov, 1953
53!
THAT'S THE ORIGIN OF THE NAME
Lolita isn't some niche little book that was rediscovered decades later, it had IMMEDIATE cultural impact across the world.
It's not a coincidence that loli fashion has a namesake, it's deliberate."
It's a reclamation of the word used to give agency to people fighting against the rigidity of Japanese culture. Lolita has grown beyond its roots but you can't escape the history it's tied to and it's ridiculous to say that loli fashion could ever be completely removed from Humbert Humbert's predatory influence.

DO NOT LOOK AT LOLITA IN A WEIRD WAY
Should Lolita Outfits Be Stereotyped As Odd Costumes? Absolutely Not
Are you a lover or hater of Lolita fashion or are you completely unaware of it? Before we go into the unique nature of this subculture, let’s introduce what it is. Originating in Japan in the 70s, the Victorian-styled street fashion gained momentum in the 80s and 90s. The word ‘Lolita’ is inspired by the pre-adolescent heroine of Vladimir Nabokov’s novel of the same name. She is seen as a nymphet by the older male narrator. Lolita fashion also tries to create an adorable, child-like look but is in no way connected to the premise of the novel. Decorated with lace, ribbons, flounces and flared sleeves, this style is highly inspired by Victorian and Rococo dresses. Lolita has also combined itself with other subcultures like Goth, Manga, and Anime to produce more styles.
There is nothing odd about Lolita costumes.
Lolita outfits and shoes are intricately detailed and conspicuous in their designs and colors. Because of this, they look distinctly different and always stand out of the crowd. As a result, a lot of people refer to this fashion as odd costumes in a derogatory manner. But let me tell you that there is nothing odd about Lolita fashion. It is a beautiful subculture that has thrived on the streets of Japan for decades. It is highly visible in anime, manga and all other Japanese art forms. Calling them odd costumes would be equating them with poorly planned Halloween costumes or cheap Cosplay items. This is not only very disrespectful towards a cultural movement thriving in Japan but towards fashion in general. Because Lolita is taking over catwalks globally and calling it odd or weird will only show your ignorance of fashion trends.
In 2009, Misako Aoki, a Lolita fashion model was appointed as Japan’s ambassador of pop culture. In 2012, Frill by Affrilliation, a Lolita-only convention took place for the first time in Atlanta, U.S. Similar such events are being held around the world for Lolitas and Lolita designer labels. In 2013, the Japan Lolita Association was established by Omula Fashion Design College in Fukuoka to encourage academic study of the Lolita subculture. In 2016, the spring/summer edition of the New York Fashion Week saw authentic Lolita outfits for the first time. During NYFW 2017, the runway saw models strutting the catwalk in knee-length petticoats, ruffles, and Victorian bodices.
Fashion recycles stylistic elements from the old to create the novel. Similarly, Lolita fashion takes inspiration from styles popular in European history and the hyperbolic cuteness associated with bisque dolls. It is then combined with modern Japanese pop culture and the concept of kawaii to create a unique visual experience. Therefore, Lolita is a diverse subculture that has both a rich history and a space for individual agency. There is nothing cheap or bizarre about it.
Now, let’s look at some styles inspired by the Lolita designs displayed by China Fashion Collective at New York Fashion Week.
Tumblr media
This is a Magic Tea Party sleeveless dress in white and blue. You can pair this with a long-sleeved jacket with front-slit and white pointy toes to create the runway look. Find the dress here.
Tumblr media
Lolita bridal fashion has been dominating the catwalks for a while. Dress up in a classic Lolita wedding dress adorned with white lace, frills, and red bows. If you want to be a Lolita bride, get the outfit here.
The Lolita Aesthetic is different yet beautiful.
Beauty is a subjective concept and what is considered beautiful varies from person to person. A woman’s individual style can be feminine, athletic, emo, hipster, preppy, etc. depending on what she finds attractive. The Lolita aesthetic whether gothic, sweet or classic, looks equally beautiful on women. It might seem different to some people, especially outside Japan, but there is nothing distasteful about it. Those who feel happy and cheerful in bright Lolita outfits wouldn’t feel comfortable wearing jeans and a tee. Lolita fashion might not be for you but always remember, ‘to each his own’.
What is considered cute or attractive in Lolita fashion is obviously different from mainstream tastes and trends. Lolita is about fierce self-expression in spectacular, flamboyant ways without caring about the fashion rules set by society. It’s about dressing for yourself, in your own terms, and not for others. The aesthetic principles of Lolita highlight individualism and independence and seek to infuse these values among its wearers. Once you stop compromising and defining yourself by what others believe, you can feel a lot more powerful.
There are multiple aesthetically diverse trends within the world of Lolita fashion. The most significant of these are Gothic Lolita (Kuro-Loli), Sweet Lolita (Ama-Loli) and Classic Lolita (Kurashikku-Lolita).
Gothic Lolita
Tumblr media
The most popular is the Gothic-inspired sub-style featuring dark clothing, dark lipstick, and smoky eyes. Common accessories include gothic motifs, stockings or knee-highs in dark colors and lace chokers. Find the outfit here.
Sweet Lolita
Tumblr media
This sub-style is the most child-like in appearance with pastel colors, ruffles, and bows. Sweet Lolita places more importance on looking cute and girly. Animal and heart prints, pastel-colored hair and neutral makeup complete the look. Find the dress here.
Classic Lolita
Tumblr media
More mature in colors and styles, Classic Lolita is usually historically inspired. Find this beautiful Victorian style Classic Lolita dress here.
The dialectical attitude towards beauty.
The Western audience has often criticized Lolita fashion for infantilizing women. Some see it as exclusively pleasing the objectifying and pedophilic male gaze and some see it as a fetishist.
While many Japanese Lolitas aren’t aware of the Nabokov novel at all, most western Lolitas don’t associate sexual connotations with this subculture. Nabokov’s Lolita is narrated by Humbert who sexualizes Dolores. Lolita fashion, on the other hand, exists in a female domain far removed from cis-male influence. In fashion, Lolita is empowered and has her own agency. It is modest and reminds a woman of her girlhood days and her precious memories of growing up. We should respect it.

[Oh no, another rant] Less embarrassed to call myself a furry fan in Japan than America
I went on a bender on Twitter last night, so beware. Also, thank you Tumblr spellcheck.
* * * * * * * * * *
Having experienced the furry fandom in both Japan and in the USA, I must say in Japan I felt far, far less awkward among fellow sub-culture participants in revealing that I'm into furry characters and have dealt heavily in the fandom.
In Japan, furry felt like a minuscule corner in the national internet sub-culture scene. Minuscule, yet still very much a part of the whole sub-culture. In America, furry feels distinctly separate from other sub-cultures, a whole tribe unto itself.
On top of that, unlike in Japan where I can say I'm into furry the same way I'm into anime and video games, in America it feels almost like an embarrassment to admit to being a furry fan, even amongst non-furry sub-culture denizens, my own greater-category brethren.
I've had time to think about the differing feelings of association, and I feel part of why Japan felt so comfortable and welcoming was that 1) furry was considered just a sub-genre of moe, like maids and lolis. It lacked the connotations of EXTRA weirdness that it had in the US.
I think, as far as the Japanese were concerned, once you're part of any sub-culture, that was it - you're now just Weird. It wasn't a badge of pride - in fact, it's rather shameful in a way. But the societal shame and passion for your hobbies were the same with others too.
So because we were essentially all the same kind of Freak, a lot of sub-cultures cross-pollinate, professionally and commercially, and it becomes very easy to connect across genre fandoms. I got along with a lot of non-furs and they could appreciate that I drew furs.
In contrast, fandoms in America feel distinctly exclusive to each other. Far fewer people can be classified as cross-fandom fans, and approach their communities like such. Genres are treated like labels. Blending interests feel less organic.
For some reason, fandoms act like tribes in America, and anybody who doesn't share a lot of the tribe's fan passions are treated to some degree like outsiders. What do we normally think when we think of a typical "anime fan", a "furry", a "brony", and a "gamer"?
Why do we express some surprise when certain people who are known as fans of one sub-genre turn out to be fans of a seemingly different sub-genre too? If Christopher Nolan one day denounced the lack of polish and NPCs in Fallout 76, for example?
So it's this weird tribalism present in American fandom culture that seems to be lacking in Japan that contributes to my discomfort in associating with those who intensely like animal people, in America. In America, I'm ultimately gonna be treated differently for it.
2) Representation issues. I actually feel like I'm in good company with Japanese furs and furry in the greater internet sub-culture, either because many are like me (not just the Asian bit, you racists), or there are many I want to be.
Many Japanese furs are of average build, and they dress modestly but with an eye for fashion, so they don't stand out garishly. Many are cross-fandom, meaning they consume anime, manga, movies and pop music, among other mundane interests.
Many use furry as just a Step One icebreaker, as further connections are established along other lines, like jobs, other fandoms and interests. And furry (and porn) isn't a goddamn career killer nor a joke in Japan either. Takahiro Kimura, Nobuteru Yuki, CyberConnect2...
There's a lot of cultural history that has made Japan more accommodating to the last bit above, but that's another topic. So yeah, I honestly feel more at home with Japan's sub-culture. It's easier for me to relate to others, and professionals exist that do what I wanna do.
I... don't feel that in America. Even after 20+ years, I feel like a stranger in my own community. It's mostly why I removed myself from Inkbunny and FA, and have now largely stopped bothering to reach out to, or shut out altogether many people in the fandom.
I don't feel like I exist to most anyone. Those who reach out to me, who I can relate to, fall under the cross-fandom category anyway, but those people feel so few in the American fandom. Not to mention the circumstances in which I exist in the fandom.
Disclaimer: This thread was inspired by recent furry Twitter buzz over some docu-vid episode following three furries, as a more positive outside view on the furry fandom. The subjects were (apparently) 1) fursuiters 2) awkward at the start 3) now oh-so-better cuz FANDOM YAAY
I'm not a fursuiter, and whether I ended up being better for being in the furry fandom is still up for debate. My strongest link to the furfandom is just an affinity for animal people content. Otherwise, I'm actually a bigger anime fan and gamer.
Where's that story?
We all know the furry fandom is WAY more diverse than this, but we're still stuck with the perception that it's all fursuits and childish masquerades, public hypersexuality, unrestrained Rule 34 on even the most innocent IPs (even though ALL the internet does this), and either neckbeards, the cringe-inducing awkward folk, or flaming gays. Even though this next bit is universal, anyone who'd pass off for a normie in this community is practically invisible.
Like the Unity engine, the furry fandom has an image problem. And this image problem is also why I feel differently in Japan's fandoms versus America's. Whereas I blend in and mingle nicely in Japan, I can't shake off the vibe of dissociation and dissonance in America.
And it honestly sucks, still.

:0 whats the tea?
I don’t know which tea youre referring to but I’m having an emotional breakdown over vocaloid so I’m dumping vocaloid tea. Huge rant below.
The year is 2012, the vocaloid community is in a weird phase. V3 has been out and going steady for a bit, and a lot of the fans are demanding remakes rather than new vocaloids. The exploration of new languages is a new trendy thing in V3, however, people are mainly demanding remakes of lesser-known V2′s and even underappreciated V1′s. Miki is a popular candidate, as she has a stable fanbase, a decent voice, and her design is manifique, however, many companies are currently popping out new vocaloids who are beginning to grow individualized fandoms of their own. The big 5 (or 6 or 7 depending on if you include Luka and/or Gakupo in the major leagues) are getting their V3′s, but there’s a definitive copy-cat style going on of the big 5 with a lot of the newer vocaloids. However, someone new comes into the fray.
The greatest vocaloid in the history of mankind has just been released. The beautiful, the one and only Aoki Lapis, has graced the world with her perfect demo, her perfect design, and her perfect name. Her voice is crafted like that of an angel, and she is ready for all your basic vocaloid needs. She can sing cute, happy songs. She can sing painful, sad songs. Her voice is like that of a lonely puppy, ready to make or break your heart at a moments notice. Will she smile? Will she cry? The choice is up to the fans. BUT YOU KNOW WHAT THEY FUCKING DID?
THEY IGNORED HER.
FUCKING INSTEAD, A YEAR OLD VOCALOID WHICH HAD NO FUCKING FANBASE UP UNTIL THAT POINT DECIDED TO START PICKING UP PACE.
Tone Rion, WHO’S INITIAL FANDOM WAS COMPRISED OF MANY FUCKING LOLICONS [aka PEDOPHILES] DUE TO HER FUCKING RIDICULOUSLY CHILDISH YET SEXUALIZED OUTFIT, started gaining traction despite her initial rocky start, ENDED UP WITH A LONG-STANDING FANDOM WHO STILL PRODUCE MUSIC TO THIS FUCKINGDAY. And I mean HER FACE IS EXACTLY LIKE FUCKING KAAI YUKI, A FUCKING KINDERGARTEN AGE VOCALOID. Tone Rion sounded so fucking bland, so fucking generic. Her voice is like that of if you put a hundread different fem vocaloid voices through a neural network and made it produce one of it’s own. It’s so fucking bland and has no emotion in it, AND YET GUSSS FUCKING WHAT?!?
SHE GET’S A FUCKING V4, AND THEY REDO HER WHOLE DESIGN BECAUSE THE WERID SEXUALIZED SCI-FI MAGICAL GIRL KID WITH TIDDY WINDOWS WAS KINDA A BAD IDEA. NOW SHE HAS A SUPER FUCKING CUTE DESIGN AND A NEW (IMRPOVED) VOICE BUT YOU FUCKING KNOW WHAT HAPPENED TO AOKI???
SHE’S FUCKING DEAD, SHE HAS NO FANDOM. SHE HAS NO SONGS. THE ONLY SHIT SHE GET’S IS FUCKING COVERS AND TO WORK WITH OTHER VOCALOIDS. MERLI COULDN’T EVEN SAVE HER ASS, AND HONESTLY I DIDN’T EVEN KNOW MERLI GOT FUCKING RELEASED BY HOW LITTLE THE COMMUNITY PICKED HER UP.
They did my fucking girl SO WRONG.
So yeah, FUCK TONE RION. FUCK ALL HER INITIAL FANS. And FUCK EVERYONE WHO LEFT AOKI TO DIE.
IT’S 20 GODDAMN 19 WHY IS TONE RION POPPING UP IN MY GODDAMN YOUTUBE FEEDS?!!? I DON’T WANT THIS SHIT.
Especial shoutouts to FUCKING MEW, WHO Y’ALL FUCKING ALSO DROPPED LIKE A DEAD RAT, Cul (who’s fanbase was actually pretty solid for a while but fizzled out), and finally Galaco and Chika who everyone seems to have forgotten existed despite some somewhat proficient producers using her.
Also I’m still bitter Miriam wasn’t as loved as she should have been. It’s like everyone forget’s she ever existed.
SO YEAH THAT’S THE TEA. FUCK TONE RION’S NEW V4. Apparently she’s been out for a year but I just hadn’t of paid enough attention while scrolling away apparently.
ONE MORE THING SINCE THIS HAS ALL JUST BEEN ABOUT MY HATE ON V3:
Y’ALL FUCKERS DIDN’T PICK UP SACHIKO ENOUGH FROM V4. WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH YOU ALL SHE SOUNDS SO GODDAMN AUTHENTIC?!?!? Like GODDAMN Sachiko is fucking god-tier like Aoki and y’all sleeping on her. HER BOX ART? GREAT. HER VOICE? GREAT. HER EMOTION, HER EVERYTHING??? FUCKING ON POINT. She’s got that rougher, deeper voice y’all loved about Luka, BUT LOO KWHAT YOU DID TO HER. Y’ALL LEFT HER FOR DEAD. Sachiko is EONS ahead of Luka in terms of rough, deep vocals, and god she sounds so fucking realistic because of it. It makes her emotion in depressing songs or creepy songs SO MUCH BETTER.
[Please note I’m angry at the community as a whole, and not individualized people and you should not feel in any way responsible for my anger. It is not your duty as a fan of something to show appreciation for lesser known characters or aspects of it. The vocaloid fandom, however, has a trend of picking up lesser-quality vocaloids in favor of the more robotic voices. Look at fucking SONIKA, one of the worst vocaloids to date MECHANICALLY WISE, NOT EVEN JUST VOCAL WISE, with her strong fandom and usage. And yes, the power of a producer using lesser-quality vocaloids and still making jams with them is a testimate to their skill, but it’s still painful to see the fans in turn also pick up said vocaloids because they want to be like their favorite producers rather than experiment with something new.
I used Maika fans as a example of “unproblematic fans” as most Maika songs are from Spanish! Vocaloid community, who really don’t have enough vocaloids to start discourse about lol. The only real discourse I saw on the spanish vocaloids was from the English and Japanese communities, who were super fucking shitty on Bruno and Clara but for ~some reason~ loved Maika. Honestly, Spanish Vocaloid community I’m so sorry y’alls first vocaloids went through such a hard time. Hope y’all get more vocaloids soon, y’all are such an awesome fanbase and I see y’all with all the subs you guys make. Keep being loud! Be seen! They’ll remember you’re a epic market!
Please note most of my critique is on the English vocaloid community, however also partially on the Japanese vocaloid community. It is very common for English producers to use non-english voice banks, however there’s a definitive trend to it all I hate. The Japanese vocaloid community is a lot harder for me to critique, however as a consumer of both english and japanese community creations I can fucking say that both of y’all assholes left my favs to die.]
TLDR: Tone Rion was initially a loli-bait style character who was made as if a mix between “robot magical girl” Miku, and Kaai Yuki with one of the most generic voices to date, but managed to get a V4 (and a VERY WELL NEEDED redesign I actually approve of as it’s more just to look cute rather than to be creepy) and a steady community while my fav Aoki just was thrown away and not even the underground community picked her up enough. I will reinterate here though, most Tone Rion fans now are not creeps. They’re just digging the cute remake of a vocaloid they may have some kind of nostalgia for just because they were hyped for all the new V3′s coming out at the time. Like, modern Tone Rion fans I’m more jealous of you rather than angry at you. Old fashion Tone Rion fans (especially those who didn’t like her new design) can go choke, that was a shit-tier design and she had an awful voice. Her new one is actually not bad, but still pretty dead in comparison to our lovely Lapis.
I will say a reason that most vocaloids “die” is caused by fans liking producers who make funky songs, and then buy  the same vocaloids of their favorite songs to mimic their producers rather than to explore new vocaloids. This leads to a cycle, ultimately leaving barely any room for new vocaloids to be explored. If a popular producer doesn’t pick up a vocaloid, or even if they did but didn’t utilize them enough (often because the vocals don’t mix well with their style or because the mechanics behind the voice are shit. Despite Circus-P getting a copy of Galaco she still died pretty hard, and she actually had a pretty alright voice and cute design. I think that one Yandere-style lolita-fashion vocaloid, can’t remember her name despite loving her, also beat her in popularity as she’s still being used quite decently.), and so that vocaloid’s popularity will be almost nothing.
Also my fav V4, Sachiko, was also discarded despite her BEAUTIFUL voice and design, because of her extremely rough voice not fitting the ~cutsy~ style of most vocaloid fans. For fucks sakes she’d be perfect for the Hagane fandom but we’re pretty fucking dead right now. Not even Yandere! vocaloid fandom picked her up and that’s such a disappointment man.
Thanks for stopping in for the tea anon! Hope you have a lovely day :D

Alicization 2^4
So while the last episode ended without letting us see just what Kirito’s Perfect Weapon Control Art was, this episode reveals that it’s basically a black kamehameha made out of sword, so at long last SAO can finally have beam struggles. It’s kinda cool I guess but I prefer Eugeo’s.
Anyway, Eugeo saves Kirito after he nearly dies taking out Fanatio, and then a couple of interesting things happen. First of all, Kirito tells Eugeo to go save the lolis real quick and make sure they’ve not got any sneaky shit to kill people with. While we don’t actually see Eugeo do this, it can be assumed that he did, and based on their somewhat important looking shot in the OP as well as here, I think we can assume that they’ll recur in some fashion. Which is fine by me because they’re both hella cute. The other thing is that Kirito tries real hard to make sure Fanatio doesn’t die, even wasting the magic dagger Cardinal gave him in order to ensure her survival. It’s pretty interesting seeing Kirito fight so hard to save these “artificial” lives because of how unjust the Integrity Knight System and Administrator are to said lives, especially since as far back as the Aincrad Arc Kirito was willing to kill actual, irrefutable, no-moral-debate-about-it human lives when the time called for it. And while he didn’t do it, he totally seemed ready to kill Sugo following the Fairy Dance arc. Heroes that don’t kill are nothing new but Kirito’s history of killing makes for a pretty interesting angle here, especially since, again, the value of these artificial lives is in itself a thematic question posed by the work.
We also get to talk to some minor character on an elevator who’s been operating said elevator for 107 years and when asked about what she would do if the whole Axiom Church is disestablished as is Kirito and Eugeo’s intention, she says she’d take the elevator and fly it through the sky. It’s not as dumb in context as it sounds because the actual elevator is magic yadda yadda etc. Anyway, while I don’t think we’ll see this elevator girl ever again, I think her addition is a nice touch. It’s a bit more context into just what the Axiom Church is and what it does to the people it “immortalises”. And in the same way Tonio from Diamond is Unbreakable shows that some Stand users aren’t evil dicks and just use their abilities to like, cook or something, this little elevator girl accomplishes that tinge of worldbuilding without needing to be an Integrity Knight herself. Kawahara’s definitely come a long way with his worldbuilding.
Also, Alice is here and we fight her for a bit! Her sword is scary but tbh Fanatio’s sword was a bit scarier, but the fight scene here is cool, if a little weird to follow because of some camera movements. Alice herself is still intimidating though and just when it seems like the whole thing would anticlimactically end much earlier than the fated battle with Alice should end, it doesn’t actually end because she’s so cool, but then the wall explodes and Alice and Kirito fall out of the building maybe?
Fuck knows what happened in the end, but the episode ended and the next episode is called “Truce”. I suspect Kirito and Eugeo may somehow find a way to team up with Alice without Eugeo needing to use his dagger to send her to Cardinal first. I don’t know though - we’ll see how it all plays out.
All in all, pretty solid episode.

ferris bueller’s day off, the lost boys, drugstore cowboy, better off dead and young guns!
ferris bueller’s day off: what’s your guilty pleasure?
Guilty pleasure huh? I have quite a few. But for this I’ll say the movie Bring It On. This movie has a lot of memories tied up in it for me and so even though its kind of terrible I adore it. And while we are on guilty pleasure movies Blades of Glory, Forbidden Kingdom, The Replacements, & Strictly Ballroom make the list as well lol
the lost boys: would you rather be immortal or objectively beautiful to everyone?
Immortal. As a historian I am extremely fascinated with the passing of time. I would love to watch the years go by and live through it all.
drugstore cowboy: which historical figure most spikes your interest?
Mao Zedong. I have had an obsession with Chinese history for most of my life and quite the fascination with the Great Proletarian Cultural Revolution. Post-modern China is really quite fascinating (I wrote a 30pg study on it in Uni) and I have always felt very drawn to China for most of my life. Fun Fact: I actually got to see Mao in his mausoleum on Tiananmen Square while I was living and teaching in China.
better off dead: why did you last laugh so hard it reduced you to tears?
Oh boy… there have been so many. Mostly involving an inside joke. Which I do not feel appropriate to share lol
young guns: what’s one style that you love on others, but would never try yourself?
Gothic&Lolita. I have always loved the look of it but being horribly tall knew I could never pull it off. I used to collect Gothic&Loli Bibles when I could find them just to look through the fashion. I was also quite sad the time in my life when I was finally able to go to Harajuku on a Sunday and sadly the movement had ended and there wasn’t anyone dressed up lol
Thank you for the ask! ❤
