No, it just comes to me. I'm myself and he is himself and we're comfortable together.

Too many times to count lol. Typical in Belgium.

No, all of them have normal names, and by normal I mean common.

Cauliflower. Maybe chicken wings, too.

Our news don't last that long.

Eh... no? I don't see the point of it.

I pass the park every day on my daily commute lol.

No, only on occasion. We order takeaway more often.

Define "rather small" please. I've been on boats and ships and cruises a lot.

I can't even swim.

I love the beach. I was raised, like, less than one kilometer from the beach by North Sea and it's one of my childhood memories.

Yesterday I went to Albert Heijn and bought some fresh veggies for soup.

What is one odd thing about the opposite sex you find to be attractive?

I'm not into women.

What noises in the room you're in, do you hear at the moment?

My husband playing video games and TV I'm watching with one eye. Also, my husband swearing because something in the game didn't go as he wanted.

Nope, but I don't need to.

It has white tiles.

No, but I was raised in one. My hometown has about 5500 inhabitants.

My grandparents are deceased.

No and no, but we kept rabbits and chickens.

Chapter 1: Milo’s

“Hi, is this the Peters residents?”

Whoever picked up the phone shushed the person that was yelling in the background, missing the reserver as I could hear everything.

“Who’s asking?” The voice was rough and it reminded me of my step-mother and her never-ending cigarette problem.

“I know your son, I was wondering if he was home because I have something of his,” I looked to the well planned out history notes that I held tightly in my hand.

I know I could have, no should have, just waited for Monday to return the papers but I couldn’t stop thinking about yesterday in the gym and that stupid video.

Was I actually decent? I knew I wasn’t the same level I was at one point but I had a chance and according to the four, she wasn’t bad.

“He’s not here, that boy, he’s probably at that Bobby’s boy house,” I nodded even if they couldn’t hear me, understanding this nasty language more than I wish.

“Do you know their address?”

“Yeah yeah, 458 Sunset Road,” I opened my mouth, ready to thank the lady but the phone was hung up quickly and I rolled my eyes. I was thankful that my parents with ahead and divorce when things started getting bad.

I grabbed the papers a little tighter in my hands, realizing I lived a block or so from the house in question and left the keys on my bedside table. No need to waste gas for some notes that I didn’t even need to drop off. I walked down the carpet stairs of my house and walked out the front door.

As soon as I made it from the door I felt the sun run over my skin, calming to my overthinking mind as I grabbed the railing, careful not to make my knee worse.

Did they delete the video as I asked?

Was this stupid?

I knew how desperate they were, it could have been all a plan to get me a part of the team because if I trusted them then some other dancers might. I was respected in the dance community and I knew the numbers to call.

I watched my feet, skipping each crack in the pavement as I did so for something for my brain to focus on.

Would they really help me face this fear?

Were they just selfish?

As I turned down one of the roads I could hear a faint sound of loud music drift over the streets, kids drawing on the road with chalk and bobbing their head.

I couldn’t believe the difference in the two sides of the neighbors, how proper and elegant my side was compared to the dancing kids, and the loud music. I spotted a small lemonade stand across from the house I was heading for.

A light smile graced my lips, amazed at the little community the little space had. It wasn’t just doctors and lawyers packed together trying to be better than the next yard.

I stopped at the driveway for the house, looking over the black roof and the white exterior of the house. Would it be weird just showing up?

We weren’t friends, no problem between me and the four but still, I definitely shouldn’t know where one lives and the only reason I knew that was from a phone call with the Peters, which I got from the phone book.

Maybe this was weird, very very weird. I panicked when I heard some sort of door open, the loud boyish laugh drifting from wherever to my spot at the end of the driveway.

“That might be one of our best works,” the happy voice was nice, the atmosphere obviously better than yesterday.

I panicked, turning around while my sweaty hands gripped the notes in my hand tightly.

“(Y/N)?”

I closed my eyes, taking a small breath in and turning back to the four boys I knew were looking at me widely.

“Hi,” I nodded, looking at each of their confused faces. I knew this would be weird.

“I have Reggie’s notes,” I held them out to the boy who was clad in a leather jacket as he gave a soft smile.

“Thanks, how’d you know I’d be here?”

I was thankful his voice was disgusted and angry but nice and gentle, just what I needed right now.

“Found you in the phone book,” I nodded, wondering if I should apologize for the household, but I backed off when I realized it wasn’t my place.

“You called my parents?”

I watched his shoulders drop, his face psychically panicking as he looked back to his friends for some help.

“Yeah, they seemed Uhm, nice?”

Reggie watched me for a few seconds while I rocked back and forth on my beat-up tennis shoes, doing my best not to combust at the sight.

“Oh, Uhm yeah,” he nodded, a mutual agreement made with each other's eyes not to mention any farther.

“Is that all?”

Patterson, or Luke, stood behind Reggie obviously trying to protect the boy from whatever I might say next.

“No,” I nodded, doing my best to come off as friend and not foe but it felt too late from that as Luke gave a grumpy smile.

“Bye bye then,” Luke waved, keeping Reggie close to his side. Reggie looked up at Luke, begging him to stop his anger to me.

I turned around, doing my best to run away for the four without making myself look more like an idiot, but I’ve never been great about that with boys.

“Do you have the video?”

Shut up (Y/N)!

“Uhm, yeah,” Bobby cut in, his voice calm as if not to scare me or make me mad. I didn’t know which but I understood both sides.

“Can I see it?” I turned back around this time, taking in some heavy breaths as I prepared for faces that looked like they would hurt me, but it never came.

Reggie looked to be bouncing on his heels as his smile grew ten times the size, Alex looked to be taking breaths that were calming his nerves, Bobby nodding his head at me with a smirk, and Luke looked to bite his bottom lip trying to hide his smile.

“Yeah, no totally,” Luke looked at his other bandmates, smirking as he walked past me. I was about to say something, pointing over at the house where they had just left from.

“We have to get Milo’s first,” Luke called over his shoulder, pointing over at the lemonade stand that I noticed once I turned the block.

“Milo’s?” I watched the other three follow Luke, each turning back to me while waving their arms.

“You’ll never have anything better,” Alex called over his shoulder, smiling once the little boy came running from the house. He almost came alive at the sight of the boys standing in front of his stand, the boy couldn’t be more than 8.

I slowly walked across the street, looking to both sides twice before jogging to join the boys that seemed to smile as the little boy made it down his stair railing and skipped to the older ones.

“Morning boys,” he spoke with a small lisp and seemed to be missing a tooth but his smile would have lit up a room in the entire state.

“Morning Milo,” Luke responded, leaning against the stand before it shook slightly and he hurriedly pulled away.

“Who’s that?”

He didn’t seem bothered by my presence, just curious about it. I was wondering why I never knew about what went on around the block from my house, but that didn’t matter as Reggie grabbed my wrist and pulled me to the front.

“A friend from school, her name (Y/N),” Bobby introduces me, the boy smiling as he holds his hand out for a handshake. I reached out, placing my hand in his and he gave a firm shake. I was shocked at his confidence, making me miss my own.

“I’m Milo, Sunset Road official lemonade and bakery stand,” his voice made a smile grace my lips, watching as he left a cute little kiss on my knuckle, earning a laugh from the other boys.

“Okay loverboy, we demand service,” Luke jokily slammed his hand on the table of the stand, pulling the sweater on my arm so he rested back to my side.

“Coming up!”

The boy dived behind the stand, pulling out a cheap bucket he got from a local shop with four mason jars inside. Once he pulled them out I noticed that each one had glitter and colored paper. Each had different drawings and little cut-outs.

I reached from one, Luke trying to grab my arm but I was already spinning it around, in horrible handwritten was the name “LUKE” in all capital letters.

“Oh wow,” I smiled at the horrible handwritten and the little microphone that definitely didn’t look like a microphone. The blue and red glitter made the sight even better.

“They made them once they became regular after babysitting me one night,” Milo cut in, holding up a finger to run back in the house, probably to grab the lemonade.

I smiled turning around and smiling at the others around us. Bobby looked as embarrassed but Alex was simply laughing at the others and Reggie looked proud.

“I came to watch my tape but this might be better,” I tried to turn my laugh into a cough since I still wasn’t that close with the boys.

“Hush,” Luke bumped my shoulder. Milo's wide laugh brought me back to the boy as he held a plain mason jar in his hand.

I couldn’t believe myself as I watched my feet glide across the floor, for the first time in a long time. I definitely wasn’t as good as I once was, which made me upset me but I still wasn’t half that bad.

“See! We told you,” Luke had made sure to sit close beside me on the couch of what seemed to be their studio. He wanted to watch how I reacted, thinking I would change my mind.

I couldn’t help but think I would, I mean I came here on a Saturday for a reason and it wasn’t the return notes.

“I’m not as good as I was, but I’m not bad,” I kept watching, smiling before I watched myself spin. My body falling to the floor as it did all those months ago, the horror-filled me up before Alex ripped the video camera from my grip.

“That’s not important,” he nervously laughed, hiding the camera behind his back but I could still hear their panicked voice from yesterday still.

“Because it will never happen again,” Reggie cut in, I could already tell he was optimistic for the four.

“But it could and one more bad fall and I might not walk again.”

I knew how dramatic I sounded but it seemed the only way to get through their skulls. I rolled my eyes, standing up from the couch, not even stopping as I walked to the open doors.

“I don’t know why I even came, I’ll see you guys around,” I waved over my shoulder, letting the video that I would hope have given me hope finally stop playing behind the blonde boys back.

“You came because you miss it.”

I shouldn’t have thought over Luke’s words, he just wanted to win the Battle of the Performers, but man it struck a deep chord. He took me rooted at the door as a sign to continue.

“You miss dancing and if I was as good as you I would be too,” Luke's voice grew closer and closer as he walked closer to my frozen figure.

“I have a question for you,” I spun on my heel, stepping back slightly when I realized how close he was. I could smell the scent of sugar and musk, which was a nice change to the overbearing scents I was used to.

“Shoot!”

“What if you broke your wrist, snapping it just the right way that you could never bend it around the neck of your guitar the same ever again, you couldn’t slide your fingers over the frets the same, would you still play?”

I knew how harsh I sounded, but the truth was harsher because that is exactly what happened to me. I tried a lift cause I was bored during practice and now my dreams were practically gone, so I knew harsh was the only way he’d see it.

“Yes, because music is more than just being good. Sure, it suck but I could still feel it and love it, why’d give up something that special!” He spoke wildly with his hands, obviously not realizing how close we are as he stepped closer.

“But watching someone else dance and myself dancing are two different things,” I spoke, trying to find a flaw in his logic but his point was clear.

Just cause I wouldn’t be as good doesn’t mean I’ll never be good again.

“But you dancing is still possible, we have video evidence,” at that Alex held up the video, pressing play as I watched myself calming walk into the gym, my hands close to my chest as I looked around the room.

“Join us in the Battle of the Performers and maybe you’ll feel it again, let two dreamers chase their dreams together,” he spoke happily, seemingly happy with his words.

“You listen to way too much John Lennon,” I spoke, shaking my head, turning around, and finally leaving the studio. I felt tears threatened to fall down my cheek but knew better than to cry with a chance of getting caught.

As I jogged down the long driveway I was on, the sign I had been asking myself since the fall. Milo stood in his front yard, talking with an older man I had seen work at a bakery a town or two over.

He seemed to have a children's cookbook in his hand, pointing over different things as Milo smiled and took notes in a black and white notebook. Maybe it was stupid to use this as my sign, their were plenty of others that made more sense, but after listening to little 7, soon to be 8, year old, Milo go on and on about how he was going to be a baker even if he wasn’t great at it now.

Because he liked it, that was all. He was bad, according to Bobby he almost burned his house down, but he liked baking so who was to stop him? The only person that Milo let stop him was his mother, but he said that’s only because he can’t reach the top shelves.

I turned around, my confidence that I had missed washing over me in a wave of adrenaline and I didn’t mind it, I missed it.

The doors to the studio were still open and I could hear much talk, maybe tuning but nothing more. I made my way to the door, standing in the center of the doorway while looking over each boy.

These boys played because they liked it, they just happened to be good.

“Need something?”

People didn’t have to be good at something to like it.

“Is she okay?”

And maybe they don’t win the competition, but you can’t win something you don’t try.

“Is she having a stroke?”

I took shaky breaths, looking at each boy's confused face.

“How long till we bomb this battle?”

My words were simple but the smiles that broke across each face were way more complex and beautiful.

“She came thought!” Bobby yelled, jumping up and down as Alex laughed, pulling his friends into a tight hug.

“Sunset Curve gonna win, Sunset Curve gonna win,” Reggie sang in a loud boom, smiling as he did a funny little dance with some sort of imaginary rope.

Luke pushed himself from the couch, running over and wrapping his arms around the back of my head. My two hands rested on his biceps, smiling at the vibe that had busted the room wide open.

“Look’s like you’ll need your own cup at Milo’s with how often you’ll be here.”

Tattoo (Jake Webber Imagine)

Merry Christmas! I know this isn’t Christmas themed, but I already did one yesterday so I can post whatever I want today. Jk jk, but yeah I just wanted to post this one. I hope you all have a wonderful day today, and know that my ask box and my messages are always open to anyone (unless it’s a scam or something) but if you guys want to talk to me I’m here to listen! I might take a minute to respond, but I’ll respond as soon as I can. My requests are open for Sam, Colby, and Jake, as well as Damon for the Vampire Diaries fans. Enjoy!

You had always been the quiet one. It’s not that you didn’t like any of the guys, you just didn’t always have a lot to say. You love it when they invite you over and they do some crazy stuff, you just never put a lot of input in it. You seemed to be more responsible, but there was a side of you they didn’t know just yet, but you were getting more and more comfortable each day.

Today, Jake has invited you over so you could help him film one of his videos. You were excited to go over because you always laughed he hardest whenever you were with Jake. His video was going to be something insane and he wanted you to film it. On your way over, you packed a first aid kit, because you were never sure what he was going to get into.

You pulled up to the building and you walked up to his apartment.

“Come in! It’s open!” he called from inside. You turned the handle and sure enough, it was unlocked.

“One of these days, someone’s going to be looking for unlocked doors and they’ll find yours and then you’ll end up missing,” you say as you walk in. He just laughs and brushes it off.

“In this video, you are gonna film me TPing Sam’s apartment,” he said with a giddy smile. You laughed so hard you practically rolled on the floor.

“He’s going to kill you,” you tell him as you get up.

“I know! And you get to get it all on video!”

You both laugh for a while longer and then he loads you into his car to drive to get the toilet paper. You guys ended up cleaning out the store’s supply and all of it barely fit into the car. When you got back, you went to Sam’s apartment because he wasn’t there. He had ended up meeting Kat for lunch, so you had plenty of time.

You had the camera and filmed as Jake completely covered Sam’s apartment in toilet paper. He wrapped the couch, covered the stairs, the bathroom, the TV, the shower, the closets, the bedroom, the balcony, everything. Jake even filmed you as you helped contribute to the mess that was going to be a major pain to clean up. When you two were satisfied with your work, you turned the camera to look at Jake.

“So how long are we gonna have to wait?” you asked him and he smiled in return.

“Not long,” he said and pulled out his phone. He called Sam and put it on speaker.

“Hey, Sam” Jake asked, kind of sounding a little nervous. He winked over at you as he waited for Sam.

“Jake?” Sam replied, already sounding a little suspicious.

“You need to come home, like, right now.”

“Why?”

“I saw some really sketchy people outside of your apartment when I got home. I went to ask you if you wanted to do something, but then I remembered you were meeting up with Kat. I called as soon as I got home”

“Oh crap. Yea I’ll be on my way now. Thanks for letting me know,” Sam said hurriedly, then he hung up. Jake immediately looked at you and started giggling. You laughed, too, and then you calmed down.

“Where should we be when he comes in?”

“We should definitely be sitting right on the couch when he walks in. Then, you can film his reaction and it will be hilarious.”

You guys got in position and waited. You head the door knob turned and you pointed the camera at Sam.

“What. In. The. World,” he said as more of a statement than a question. You and Jake were both laughing so hard that you were crying as Sam looked around and noticed all the toilet paper. “Why?” he asked as he still turned in circles.

“Don’t worry, brother,” Jake said as he put an arm around Sam’s shoulder. “I saw you were running low, so I stocked you up. You’re welcome,” he answered with a smug smile. You could barely hold the camera straight because you were laughing.

“Well, it’s time for us to go. Bye Sam!” Jake said as he led you out the door. When he closed it behind him, Jake smiled at the camera and started laughing again. The both of you walked back to Jake’s apartment and filmed his outro. After he was done, you walked over and patted him on the back.

“That was a good one,” you chuckle out as you look at Jake. He laughed and smiled back at you. “I’m thirsty brother let me get some water.” You walked over to the kitchen to grab a water bottle from the fridge. You found a cold one and picked it up, but it slipped out your hands. You reached down to pick it up. When you got up, you set it on the counter and turned to Jake.

“Want something while I’m over here?”

He looked stunned and his eyes were staring straight ahead.

“Hello?” you asked and waved your hand in front of his face. He muttered something but you couldn’t hear it. “What?”

“Oh, um, no I’m good I don’t want anything,” he stammered out and went to go to the couch.

“Oh no you don’t,” you say and you walk closer to him. You turn him around and you ask, “what’s wrong?”

“I just never knew that you had a tattoo,” he says quietly. You think for a moment and realize he must’ve saw when you went and got the water.

“Oh, yeah, I have a couple. They just aren’t visible because of what I wear.”

“Oh,” he says, barely audible.

“What’s the big deal? Most of you guys have tattoos.”

“That’s true. It’s just, I kind of thought of you as this innocent girl, but seeing that tattoo, it makes, uh, it makes me-“

“Makes you what, Jake?” you ask exasperatedly.

“Makes me wanna do things,” he says and lowers his voice. You suddenly get the idea and then you walk even closer to him. You put your hand on his chest and slowly run it down.

“Do what things?” you question seductively as you lean up on your tiptoes.

Just as he was about to answer, Sam burst through the door holding rolls of toilet paper and started pelting you guys. You quickly ducked behind the counter and Jake dove to the floor.

Sam ran out of ammo and started laughing. “Got you guys! Don’t mess with Golbach!” he screamed and slammed the door behind him. You got up from your hiding space and glared at Jake.

“I told you. You should LOCK THE STUPID DOOR!”

Jake laughed and jogged over and locked the door. He cane back up to you and you hopped on the counter and put your arms around his neck.

“Now, what things did you want to do to me?” you ask and suddenly you feel his lips on yours.

Fictober - Day 1

Prompt #1: “No, come back!” Fandom: Spider-Man (MCU) Rating: G Warnings: None Words: 458

Peter swings to the top of a building on the outskirts of Queens and removes his mask, trying and failing to take deep and even breaths.

After dropping MJ off safely, he’d called May first. She and Happy had told him not to come back to the apartment. They were moving his things to a secure location and would call him back when it was safe for him to join them.

He hadn’t had time to process what his revealed identity really meant for the future, and right now, he doesn’t want to.

He pulls his knees to his chest and sits. It’s been all of ten seconds, but the wait already feels unbearable.

He wishes he’d installed Karen in this iteration of the suit. He could really use her company right now, could really use a distraction from the panicked thoughts threatening to—

“NO!!”

A child’s voice catches his attention.

“NO!” They scream. “STOP!!”

He scurries to the edge of the roof and locates the commotion.

There are three kids on the street below. Two of them, a girl who seems about five and a teenage boy, look like they could be siblings. The teenager is locked in a scuffle with an older-looking boy who is attempting to pry a phone out of his hold.

Peter immediately leaps into action. He swings down and kicks the perpetrator off the younger teen, then webs the phone out of his hands.

“I take it this doesn’t belong to you?” He says, but the older kid is already running away as fast as his legs can take him.

Peter turns to hand the phone to the younger teen, whose little sister clings to his side. His default “Everyone okay?” catches in his throat, the wide-eyed look on the pair’s faces shutting him up before he can get the words out.

Oh, right. Beck’s video. Spider-Man’s a murderer.

He backs away awkwardly. “Stay safe guys.” He mutters, then turns to jog away.

Are New Yorkers scared of him now?

“Thank you, Spider-Man!” The brother calls out belatedly.

“Thank you!!!” The five-year-old screams after.

They don’t sound scared.

“We love you, Spider-Man!” The boy yells. “That Jameson guy is an ass!”

The relief at knowing someone still trusts him leads Peter to slow down and turn around. He’s about to respond to the boy’s kind words when the girl’s voice interrupts.

“We love you, Peter!” She chirps.

He halts.

Peter?

A wave of nausea hits him.

They know. Everyone knows. They know who you are and that means everyone knows who your friends and family are. Everyone knows.

Peter runs.

“No, wait, Spider-Man!!” The boy pleads. “Come back!!”

He keeps moving, refusing to look back.

Everyone knows.

Spider-Man’s name is Peter Parker.

Hi everyone,

This turned into a long one. I hope you enjoy.

I have been passionate about cars since I can remember. It was the first thing I remember being passionate about and has remained one of my greatest passions. In particular, sports and supercars. I spend endless hours on YouTube salivating over them.

By my mid 20s I was saving up to get into a Z4 and after a bigger than expected pay rise I was fortunate enough to get into a Z4MR. Photos here. It has been an incredible experience with the peak being a 4,000 mile drive around the mountains of Western Europe. Videos here and here. Yes, I still have it.

I have been debating a step up for the last year or so. The full journey is a bit of a story but the short version is that last week I finally did it and bought this Audi R8 Spyder - 2010, V10, Manual in Sepang Blue with Black Leather and the options I cared about.

In this post I am sharing my (on reflection, apparently considerable) initial impressions. If you would like to know more about the car, my journey to getting it or anything else please let me know.

So, my initial impressions:

DRIVING:

Power - Naturally a significant step up from the Z4M and you can feel the difference in the acceleration. Quite simply, you are moving a lot faster a lot sooner – that sounds obvious but sometimes the most obvious things are overlooked and can be the most impactful. Specifically, when you are hurtling towards a corner with more weight, with more width, lower down and at higher speed than you are used to, you notice it and your adrenaline pumps. However, the difference in the acceleration is less pronounced than I expected and I think this is because of the way the power is delivered. Specifically, to me the Z4M feels more 'raw' where the R8 is more 'smooth' or ‘progressive’. It may be that I am not yet driving it that hard or in the sportiest setup, but it feels like the accelerator pedal mapping is more progressive where the M felt more sharp. Additionally – and I don't know if this is due to the engine being behind rather than in front, the type of engine, the 4WD or the weight – but the R8 feels more like a 'wave' or 'surge' of power vs the Z4M feeling a bit sharper but a lesser sense of thick/weighty momentum. It just keeps building in the R8. The Z4M would shock me for a second and then I would be accustomed. The R8 is more like a rollercoaster that just keeps piling on the speed and you find yourself screaming after 3 seconds rather than immediately.

Handling - to be honest, it is too early and I am too amateur a driver to be able to pull it apart in a forensic, academic way. However, my regular human perspective may still be insightful. My biggest surprise is with the mag-ride suspension. The R8 is considerably more compliant and comfortable than the Z4M. Even once firmed up you can still feel the mag-ride there - you are suspended by firm liquid rather than solid springs. Whether this is desirable is subjective to the person and context. It is brilliant for when you want the smoother ride as you cruise across country or navigate a town, but I think you don't get quite the same connection when you are going for it vs. the Z4M. That said - there are other things that heighten the experience such as the speed (more above) and noise (more below). It’s definitely a big net ‘gain’ in terms of experience so I will take the added comfort. Otherwise, steering and brakes are I am sure different, but I am yet to really pull it apart. I will likely retrim the steering wheel to get closer to the chunky M wheel.

Sound - perhaps the most important thing to me in terms of eliciting a deep emotional reaction. My Z4M has a non-OEM exhaust and the same is true of the R8. Both sound great in different ways but the R8 is considerably more special. The Z4M first – the i6 NA engine sounds great, especially with an upgraded intake. The roar of the engine is the highlight of the Z4M sound for me. The exhaust is also great. Mine came with a Hayward and Scott exhaust. I later had stock but had to go back having become to accustomed to the H&S. The upsides are that it is louder and gives it more mid-tones in the lower revs and amplified the rasp and made it more raw in the higher revs. The downside is that it drones. Next, to the R8. This has a Top Gear F1 Valved exhaust. When closed it is relatively quiet, delivering a low, deep but muffled rumble. You know the power is there, but it is non-intrusive. Great for cruising. Once the valves are open you have a deep, throaty rumble in the low revs, an exciting raw in the mids and a ferocious, roaring scream in the high revs. It sounds exhilarating on the open road and scary in a tunnel. It is incredible. I will try and capture it on video.

EXTERIOR:

I loved the original R8 coupe when it launched. I remember seeing a black V8 Coupe for the first time turning a tight city corner and it looked extremely cool. The black paint, carbon blades and LED running lights giving it a low, powerful, panther-like presence. The V8 sounding menacing. I was wowed. I still feel that presence when I see a black V8 Coupe today. Other colours don’t conjure the same memories or emotions. The V10 Coupe also doesn’t have the same impact. The small differences giving it a slightly more rounded and less sleek look to my eyes. I still turn my head when I see one, but it doesn’t blow me away like the black panther I saw 12 years ago.

I have a thing for convertibles/roadsters/spyders. The exposure to the elements. Driving the road and experiencing the environment and the car. Heightened sensations of sight, sound and smell. I also love the looks of a drop-top. This is true for the R8 as much as many. While it loses its iconic side-blades, it gains a set of ‘fins’ across its back, in two silver spines that complement the silvery shimmer of the fuel cap, tail pipes, wheels, and contrast the black aerodynamic features at the front and rear of the car. In V10 form it looks as sleek and menacing as the V8 Coupe, but with a different presence. The alloys and V10 distinguishing it, along with more subtle touches. Letting you know it is something special and serious. It may not be as dramatic or beautiful as an Italian supercar (the 458 Spyder being my personal dream), but it remains special to me.

I could go on. To save this being any longer than it already is – I love the somewhat subtle but still impactful waves and ‘hips’ over the wheel arches. I love the alloys – although I am going to get mine cleaned up and refinished without the polish chrome look (a bit too bling for me). I love the front lights – the eyes of the car, and the LED running lights. It looks best with the roof down and spoiler up, but still looks good with the roof up.

The colour choice was an easy one for me. Its subjective of course, but I don’t think red works that well on the car. The black is good but I think you lose sight of the subtle shapes and the contrast vs the aero features. Silver isn’t for me. The white is nice and I was considering it, but the silver ‘fins’ and wheels have less presence as they lose contrast. The dark/grey/charcoal looks great and I would have tested one if there was one available – although it is perhaps too subtle for me (the R8 doesn’t have the swoops of a Ferrari or edges of a Lambo to maintain presence in a flatter colour). The blue to me is beautiful. Bright, yet rich. It makes me think of the tropical ocean. Echoing memories of the vivid pictures Pixar delivered in Nemo. Flickering in the light and drawing you in. It contrasts both the silver and black on the car and strikes a nice balance of stand out beauty that I think any supercar needs, without being outlandish or brash. I love it.

INTERIOR:

I sat in a V8 Coupe last year and the interior turned me off the car. It was black leather, with all features in black leather. Stitching was black and so was the paint. The switch gear and dials are smart and solid, but not beautiful and – against all the black – seem boring. Most importantly, after the Z4M the interior felt too spacious. The distances from left to right and from wind to rear screen (over the ‘parcel shelf’) felt comparatively vast, almost like a lounge after the R8 and I felt less connected to the car and the environment as a result.

I was nervous I would find the same with the V10 Spyder but was delighted when I didn’t. There are several differences that to me explain this. First and most importantly, in the Spyder you lose the ‘parcel shelf’ behind the seats that gave it an airiness. It sounds like a small thing, but the interior in the Spyder felt intimate again. I think the roof line is slightly lower as well and the roof shape a bit tighter which may add to the sensation of being central and connected. Secondly, for me a few important options considerably elevate the cabin. Primarily the carbon ‘sigma’ interior details. I don’t buy into the trend of covering everything in carbon, but the few elements in this interior lift it above your average A4 and make it special. Another subtle but to me impactful option is the white/silver/titanium contrast stitching. It is one of those small things that I think makes a big impact.

Otherwise, I am happy with the interior. The seats aren’t as exciting and beautifully sculpted as some newer seats – but still look good to my eyes (thank you again to the contrast stitching) and are comfortable and supportive. The manual gated gear stick is of course famous and certainly a stand-out feature in both design as well as the mechanical tactility and engagement it delivers. The switch gear are all fine. Not beautiful or special, but solid, smart and add to the organic and mechanical feel. Surprisingly, the wiper/light/cruise stalks don’t feel as solid as the ones on the Z4M. Not that important but less impressive none the less.

I nearly forgot one of my favourite features of the car! The ability to drop the rear window. Meaning that even with the roof up you can be exposed to both the sound of the engine and exhaust – right behind your head, and the sounds and smells of the environment around you. It is brilliant.

The front luggage compartment is small. No doubt it would be better to have more space. I could take the Z4M away for weeks, which will be much harder in the R8. But when it’s a NA, manual V10 Spyder this to me becomes near irrelevant. I’ll make it work!

OWNERSHIP:

There’s no getting away from the costs. Being one of the last NA, manual V10 500+bhp cars for relatively moderate purchase and running costs, I consider it a relative bargain and reasonably ‘safe’/low depreciation risk expenditure. However, it was still a huge amount of money to spend in one go and I am aware (and ready) for the running costs. It is by far the most I have ever spent outside of a house and I had to take a huge brave pill to be able to do it, that took me a few weeks to swallow before I committed. To be frank, I am glad to have owned it for a week or two now as I am starting to get accustomed to the car and build some distance from the expenditure, and so can enjoy it rather than constantly worry about it.

Another major concern is the negative environmental impact of the car. I am very conscious of climate change and the negative human impact on nature (another love of mine). To keep things short – I have been learning about how to calculate and offset your carbon footprint (and broader environmental impact). There are websites that can estimate your carbon footprint and tell you where you can donate to in order to ‘offset’ it. Truthfully, I think we should just not do bad things. Rather than do something bad and then offset it. It makes me feel guilty. But this is a childhood dream, I have worked hard for it and I have had a really tough 18 months so I am letting myself enjoy this and planning to over-compensate to try and make a net-positive impact. If I can’t afford to do this, I shouldn’t have the car.

It is too early to comment on ownership otherwise. I am holding my breath and hoping for the best. The car has a full history with all in order and feels great.

Best Overall (Android): Samsung Galaxy S10

The S10 also boasts Samsung’s first in-display acoustic fingerprint sensor, meaning you'll unlock your phone just by placing your finger on the front screen. Although our tester said this feature was "spotty," he felt the Galaxy S10 was "a beautiful and brilliant smartphone."

Runner-Up, Best Overall (Android): Google Pixel 3

When the Google Pixel 3 arrived last year, it made waves with its camera. While the camera specs might not seem that spectacular on the surface (it only features a single at 12.2 MP rear camera with an f/1.8 aperture), the simplest Google Pixel 3 features are baked into the software, joining Apple’s iPhone XR because the only other smartphone capable of taking seriously high-quality photos with just one lens.

Also, because the smartphone is formed by Google, it fits most naturally into the Android ecosystem—so if you’re a significant Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Drive, or Google Assistant user, this is often the smartphone for you. Plus, additionally to wireless charging, the Pixel 3 switches to a Google Assistant-friendly UI whenever you set it on the charger. Our tester loved this phone: "This is that the best Android phone you'll stock terms of access to cutting-edge features," he said. "The Pixel 3 provides an unfiltered Android experience—with the promise of years of timely updates—that you only won’t find anywhere else."

Best Overall (Apple): iPhone 11 Pro

The iPhone is one among the foremost popular cell phones and a few might argue the simplest smartphone. The new iPhone 11 Pro gains a triple-lens camera system, and while that’s not a replacement idea, Apple has combined the three cameras — a 26mm wide-angle f/1.8, a 13mm ultra-wide-angle f/2.4, and a telephoto f/2.0, all of which are 12 megapixel shooters — with its A13 Bionic chip’s “Neural Engine” to supply computational photography features that make these cameras much greater than the sum of their parts.

Moreover, Apple has managed to deliver four hours of additional battery life over last year’s iPhone XS, and for the primary time ever, an 18-watt USB-PD fast charging adapter is included within the box.

Best Splurge: iPhone 11 Pro Max

The iPhone 11 Pro Max is that the ultimate flagship of Apple’s current lineup, bringing all of the good features of Apple’s iPhone 11 Pro to the large screen. While both of Apple’s Pro models have an equivalent specs under the hood, it’s hard to argue that bigger is best, especially when it involves the gorgeous new "Super Retina XDR" display that Apple has put during this year, also because the sleek chrome steel and glass design.

At 6.5 inches, Apple’s new display provides a shocking 2,000,000:1 contrast ratio, up to 1200 nits of brightness when viewing HDR content, and a 2688 x 1242-pixel resolution at a triple-density of 458 pixels-per-inch. There’s also Apple’s True Tone display with a P3 wide color gamut, which suggests you’re getting unsurpassed color accuracy for your photos and videos no matter the encompassing lighting conditions.

Best Budget: Moto G7

Recently, Motorola—one of the oldest names in cell phones—has been trying to carve out a replacement niche for itself by creating the simplest Android phones for the typical user at a reasonable price. Its latest offering is that the Moto G7, which offers a unprecedented range of features for its price. Physically, it's a premium feel: an all-glass back and an edge-to-edge 6.2-inch display on the front, along side only a small teardrop notch for the front camera. A Snapdragon 632 eight-core CPU and 4GB RAM brings solid performance, and while it’s not getting to win any speed tests against Samsung or Apple, it’s quite fast enough to suit most of your needs.

On the rear are a fingerprint sensor and dual, 12MP/5MP cameras with 4K video, Portrait Mode, HDR photos, and slow-motion video. Although it doesn’t have advanced photo features, it nails all of the fundamentals, then some. Unfortunately, it doesn't have wireless charging capabilities—you’ll need to resort to Moto’s included "Turbopower" charger, which gets you copy to around 50 percent in half-hour. It also boasts a surprisingly good battery life. While it lacks a politician IP rating for water resistance, Motorola has coated it with "P2i nano-coating." Splashes and spills are going to be fine, but not much else.

You were on the Panel for an interview with the cast, you had been on the show for 2 seasons, you had so much fun on and off set you all met up and every time you did no matter who you were with you seemed to end up on the subject of you and Dylan. The whole cast seemed to believe that you both needed to be together and you were inclined to believe them considering your attraction to him, though you weren’t sure whether he even liked you back. It always seemed like the group were on a covert mission to find out information when they were with you, you never said anything to Dylan and laughed off the claims when they were made in front of him. “My question is for (Y/N) and Dylan.” the fan smiled and you looked up and waved. “So there has been a lot of posts on social media mostly from the cast about you and Dylan, saying things like your the ultimate ship so I wondered if you agreed.” “Hang on. Before I answer that question I’d like to know what they said about me on the internet.” You smirked looking at them all in turn. “Nothing bad,” Holland answered. “That’s not helpful,” You mumbled. “I’d like to know what exactly has or hasn’t been said.” “Well…” Holland looked over at you. “There was a picture of you two when you fell asleep on set.” “I told you not to post that.” You mumbled and the crowd laughed. “There was the one where you stole Dylan’s hoodie.” Tyler P smiled. “I remember that.” Dylan smiled. “You didn’t give it back of months.” “I forgot that I had it.” You argued. “Okay,” Dylan said pulling his hands up in defence. “There was that video where Dylan was helping you reach something when we went shopping and just ended up lifting you.” Tyler H commented. “She was complaining that I was getting the wrong sauce!” Dylan smirked. “You were.” You argued and Dylan just rolled his eyes. “So (Y/N) answer the question.” Holland smiled. “Um.” You stuttered. “I mean Dylan is a great guy, funny and everyone knows here would agree if I said he’s attractive.” There were loud cheers from the crowd and you nodded to yourself. “Well if we’re going this way about things then (Y/N) is a nice girl and I think we’d all agree that she is quite attractive.” Dylan smiled “and I would like to ask her if she would like to go on a date with me.” “She’d love to.” You smiled and everyone erupted into cheers and almost decided to finish that panel so that you could get your date on the way.
